‘twis the week before Christmas…

Filed under: Whatever — vernon @ 6:20 am

I caught the last third of an episode of an ‘NPR’ show that I do not remember hearing before called Hearing Voices.

Christmas Mashup (with various links and description) 52:00 (((Hearing Voices))), Jay Allison, Barrett Golding, Todd Melby & StoryCorps

An HV Hour: Holy Days & Silent Nights

A mix of lotsa holiday stories, found-sound, and sprinkling of sampled song (

Broadcast: Dec 10 2008 on NPR Hearing VoicesSeries: Hearing Voices from NPR

sheeit

It seemed like a good kick-off to the final week countdown.

Great hearing that Kristapea nails that job, a merry Kristmas gift. Of course she benefited from some of the greatest job counselors/cheerleaders going.

But we also hear that Chrysler will shut down for a month. No Chrysmas there. Sadly another friend of mine lost his music biz job yesterday and thanks to the ‘no new taxes EVER’ repugs in the California legislature my new career in university temp work has dried up almost as soon as it began.

Happy 65th to Keith Richard(s)! :cake: :cake:

And so it’s back to the war on xmas for me.

  1. KP, congrats on the new job. Now you can complain about working with the rest of us.

Travis, how about doing the Saturday morning opening?

Today is going to be one of those days. Working, then a conference and then a long ride to Shelter Island so we can get the tree and be ready for that little granddaughter’s Santa visit. I know this will be the last year for Santa. The first grade is when the kids all tell each other the big secret: There is no Santa!

It’s going to require lots of coffee to stay awake, today.

  2. Thanks everyone! Never thought I’d be happy about random drug testing.

  3. Congratulations on the job, KP. I used to randomly test drugs myself, back in the olden days.

  4. …not the IMer who plays pj on MvS….

Yeah, I caught some of that. I hope I’m not getting blamed for anything this person says. Frankly, I’m at work at 3 PM Eastern, and don’t generally have a chance to sit there and IM the show. I listen in when I get a chance, but can’t always pay attention, what with having to do my job and all. And I’ve never called myself ‘pj.’

I heard something about “I happen to know you like cocktails” or Jim Beam or something, so I guess that must be somebody else he knows, because, while I’ll admit to a penchant for beer, I don’t drink the hard stuff (tends to get me AFU real fast, and not in a happy way, but in more of a fall down on the floor, depressed and suicidal kind of way). Plus, I don’t actually know Marc, so he really wouldn’t “happen to know” anything about me. I did have a couple of Heinekens at the Comedy show I went to, but only because there was a minimum (and, while I’m not much for Heineken, there wasn’t much of a choice IIRC).

At any rate, I wouldn’t give him a bunch of shit. Maybe if I knew him and we were friends I would (in that ‘guy’ kinda way), but I don’t, and we’re not.

    Oh well.

  5. So, if anyone is looking to move to Phoenix, I got just the place for you if you’re one person that doesn’t need a lot of space.

    Comment by Kristapea — December 17, 2008 @ 10:48 pm

I would consider it, but I hear it’s tough to get a job there. Unless you’re really talented and persistent.

    Congratulations!

  6. Vernon- real sorry to hear about that. We’re entering a world where it’s one step forward (Krista) for some of us and two steps back for others. Hope it’s just a short-term set-back.

  7. Mourning temp work, what a country! I will miss the great CDs my friend would send me. He may actually find somewhere to land. He is good like that.

Maron definitely knows it ain’t you, pj. Someone got that to him before I did.

this madoff ponzi scheme is amazing to me. Investors were getting money when they needed it. It was there and then it wasn’t. It’s metaphysical. If you believe it’s there, it is. Isn’t it weird?

Vern, I’ll believe the work is there for you!

  9. I like these daily press conferences O’Bama is having to announce his nominees. It makes you feel like there is someone at the switch even if there isn’t and the selections get savaged until the next batch comes along.

  10. Yep, Vern and this isn’t such a good way to start a new job:

New SEC chief gave Bernard Madoff’s son a job

Mary Schapiro, Barack Obama’s choice to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), previously appointed one of Bernard Madoff’s sons to a regulatory body that oversees American securities firms.

It has emerged that in 2001, Ms Schapiro, currently chief executive of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (Finra), employed Mark Madoff to serve on the board of the National Adjudicatory Council — the division that reviews disciplinary decisions made by Finra.

  11. i’ve decided having that evangelical dude (nut job?) give the invocation is kind of smart. It’s throwing ‘em a bone without giving them any real position of power. :santacool:
