I dunno about you, but I’m still feeling a little hung over from the last show. It’s nice to know we’re not alone. Here’s a weekend thread for everyone to pay their last respects. We can get back to talking about the issues, and fighting for our lives on Monday.
I’m with ya, peej. At least I haven’t cried yet today, but I woke up with “Brian’s song” (Inconsistent Mental Disposition) going around in my head. Guess I’m so used to getting up at 6 past the hour (6) that Saturday morning held no extra sleep for me. But I’m not up for streaming the rebroadcast–I think it would get me bawlin’ all over again.
I still can’t believe it’s over.
Damn you, Goldberg!
Hello Seditionists,
Just wanted to take a minute to thank all of you for the amazing support and enthusiasm and love you’ve shown MS during the past 20 months.
We appreciate it more than you’ll ever know.
Love and respect–
Kent Jones
:fire::fire::fire::fire::fire:
Kent,
Thant for bring us 20 months of hilarity at an ungodly hour of the morning. It made these past few years living under a president, who’s the result of bizarre genetic experiment involving Richard Nixon and Foster Brooks, a lot more bearable.
Excuse the 24-hour dylexia…I’ve been up since 5:00 yesterday morning. Thankfully, I only have to do it every other week.
Good morning Seditionistas. Yes, we’ll start Monday. I have lots of ideas but I’m still in shock that I will be waking up with no funny. I need to grieve.
So, I was watching Antiques Road Show last night and as I was looking at the MS group photo and someone on the road show was getting an appraisal on a promotional figure of Speedy the Alka Seltzer mascot from the 20’s or 30’s. I swear it looked just like Jim Earl. It also occured to me that Jim Earl could pull off a good Howdy Doody! 🙂
He could do a character that’s part Howdy Doody/part Lawton Smalls.
or I should say part Howdy Doody/Part Milfington
Arrrgh…my station is airing one of those “voice of the middle class promos for Springer. If he’s the voice of the middle class, the middle class is in desparate need of speech therapy.
Hello Everyone,
I’m curios; how many people are going to try to listen to AAR monday morning and how many are just going elsewhere?
I haven’t really decided what to do. I have to make the decision since I used to have MS as my radio alarm station.
opinions welcome.
Good Morning,
It was great to see Kent Jones check in. I shed a few tears yesterday and got chocked up along with Marc when he couldn’t get out “I woke up and my bed was filled with philosopher kings….” after the dream diary. How do we get the show back?
It has occurred to me that this is all a publicity stunt and a damn good one at that. Morning Sedition will be back on Monday to entertain all of Stern’s fans.
Hey Kent-
Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for all of your hard work and creativity.
I hope we continue to hear your voice(s). Lawton’s baseball cap and T-shirt belong in the Smithsonian.
All the best.
AMSedish / Kent,
You can count on continuing support, just give us a chance!
Get back on the air waves somehow–with your own promotion codes so the bean counters can count beans–and produce your own swag: CD’s, DVD’s, etc.
“O, you’re going to have to hit harder than that, [Danny]!”
Left of the Dial is on HBO2W at 1:15ET (10:15PT). Missed it on the east feed.
Speedy, huh! Is Krista Pea saying that Jim Earl is behind Speedy (SpeedRacer)?
Did anyone bother to get images of Speedy? Speedy the Alka Seltzer mascot?
Laurie. Laurie got a plug. I am listening to KPOJ right now.
Save the blog archives!
Hey there fellow MS-ers!!Out here in Seattle we lost MS on the 6-9am slot in September (replaced by that gorgeous bore Stephanie Miller) when it was moved to the 3am slot. So on this last day of the show I awoke at 2:59 and listened to the whole show. Sad as hell…especially since I harbored a notion that this might be a publicity stunt, and at the last minute Marc would tell us all about it. But no, the end of MS appears all too true now.
HOWEVER: as much as I have loved this show, it seems pretty clear to me that Marc has become increasingly a solo act, an incredible creative genious, director, producer, writer and performer, and that dear Riley was becoming more like Ed McMahon, a sidekick to Marc. Perhaps Riley wanted/needed more of a presence on the show? In any case I look forward to Marc’s continuing career on radio. I hope we on the West Coast will be able to hear him live at some reasonable hour. Unfortunately Riley’s new show will be on at 2am here, and there’s no fucking way I can get up THAT early.
So I goes and checks my email this morning. One of the messages is titled “Hey buddy, whats up”. So curious, I opened it. It turned out to be spam for “enhantment patches”.
Get it? Whats up.
Dang if Maron has already been coopted by the man.
Hiya Kent! Good luck on Rachel’s show.
I don’t know about you guys, but I went to the MS blog last night, saw the photo of the crew, and broke down into sobs again. I can’t even talk about the show without choking up.
Am I pathetic? Are any of the rest of you experiencing this?
I listened to the repeat of yesterday’s show this AM from 6-8, and I think we’re going to have “Best of Morning Sedition” for the next two weeks, until the new lineup starts in January. I mean, what are they going to put on instead, Springer reruns?
Kent, it’s good to hear from you. I hope you’ll show up here occasionally.
Seditionistas, we cannot give up. Can we outlast Danny Goldberg? Can we get him booted on his ass without destroying Mark Riley and Rachel Maddow in the process?
Face it, friends, we are worshippers in the Cult of Marc Maron, as scary as that may seem.
Webhubble, I admit that “enhancement patches” wasn’t what we expected Marc to choose as his first endeavor after Morning Sedition, but we’re with him if that’s what he needs to do for his comedy future. I guess it’s kinda funny.
I listened to all three hours of the replay of Morning Sedition today in the dark sitting quietly with a cup of tea 3 am to 6 am. Heard a lot more of what went down during the show because I wasn’t crying and didn’t have to guess whether the whole entire contract cancellation thing had been a big hoax. I already knew the ending when I listened this morning.
Didn’t realize so many of the writers came from the Daily Show. Loved the interactions with various crew members. Struck by Kent Jones’ comment that Marc gave the writers permission to do ANYTHING. They went for it and so did Marc and so did we.
Wondered why Marc would put such a colossal (wow, I had to look up the spelling for that word) effort into staying on the show after it had been cancelled and his contract not renewed. At the end of the three hours I realized that Marc figured out how to leave in a triumph, looking and sounding better than ever, with everyone surrounding him with love and craziness, with DG firmly planted in a crap hole forever. Good work, Marc.
I would like to see Marc posting on the HuffingtonPost. I mean, really, Al Franken has a post today about candy bars !

Just drag and drop these?

Fun fact from today’s Bucs/Patriots game on Fox (in fact, the ONLY fun thing for me, since the Pats manhandled the Bucs big time):
Announcer Dick Stockton wished someone Happy Holidays. On FOX! Watch out, Dick. O’Reilly will be coming after you with the wrath of the Factor.
Hope to see everyone (except Speedy, of course) here next week. I have Monday and Tuesday off so that I can go out and bolster our economy by buying lots of stuff for my relatives. Also need to see Syriana, and maybe Capote if there’s time.
Former lurker de-cloaking to vent…
I’ve been a talk-radio enthusiast since the mid-80’s, and IMHO Morning Sedition was the best of the genre. The final weeks of the show were bittersweet; the entire MS crew was absolutely brilliant. Marc & the crew went out in a blaze of glory… I hope the management of AAR now realizies that cancelling this show was a colossal fuck-up… especially in the wake of Howard Stern moving to satellite.
Gawdammit… I feel like the Beatles have just broken up.
I am leaving a Call to travisdem_04 here and on Last Weekend on AAR site — 😕
(great blog)
:fire:
Back when I was 14 or so, the CBS Radio Mystery Theatre was on an AM radio station, and I used to lay there in bed (in the dark) and listen to the stories. When I was older, and in the working world, all I listened to for quite a few years was NPR. I’d get up early and listen to Morning Edition while I smoked cigarettes (quit those things ten years or so ago) and drank a pot of coffee or so before heading off to work. When I got an office job, I’d listen to NPR all day long, every day.
At night, from 8 – midnight, my NPR station plays “Old Time Radio,” and I used to listen constantly. Fred Allen, Jack Benny, Lights Out!, X-1, Suspense…. They were all such amazing shows, and so much better than 99% of the drivel you get on television.
Morning Sedition, once it really came together, combined the best of all of those with unapologetic progressive values. The fact that this group could put together a show of this calibre five days a week, for three hours a day is just unbelievable. Look at the shit it takes network TV a week to put an hour’s worth together.
Those of us who came to know and appreciate this show will be part of a family that will last forever. Whenever somebody says, “Hey buddy, what’s up?” “Firetruck!” or “John Kerry stole my shoe” we can smile, and know we’re among friends. And know, too, that the rest of the world just doesn’t get it.
Losing Marc off AAR is like a DEATH of someone dear. It is THE SAME FEELING, and you can’t do a damn thing about it except CRY and FEEL THE LOSS — but the ache goes on and on…
:fire: 😆
No, I don’t think Jim Earl is the troll, but check this out, it’s uncanny! http://theimaginaryworld.com/adtour02.html
Just to clear things up, Maron did not send out the “Hey buddy whats up” spam. Just some enterprising con artist.
Hey Patrick, I slipped back into denial too, for a while. I thought this was the biggest most inexpensive publicity stunt ever but I think it’s real. I have no idea what we’ll wake up to Monday Morning. Of course I will check and see what’s on, but I may ….Oh I have no idea what I will listen to Monday morning. If I didn’t have to work I’d sleep in:rant1:
I don’t think it’s a publicity stunt. Marc’s been so upset for weeks. The man wears his heart on his sleeve. Of course, there is the part of me that’s wishing, Kristapea, that you are right.
Thanks, Kent Jones, for writing to us and letting us know that we’ve been heard. Marc did acknowledge us, but your taking the time to type a fewwords means a lot. I wonder if you realize that people of all ages , from pre-teens to people in the seventh decade of their lives love the show. I’ve never seen anything like this.
I feel worse than I did when the Beatles broke up. The Beatles entertained us as did MS, but MS gave us lots of something new(s) everyday–a goal that few people could ever dare to match.
I am clearing out my study so that I can do my knee exercises while listening to the shows I’ve downloaded, thanks to Kristapea’s and pj’s help.
Love to you all.
Kristapea and DrDance
Good Evening
and yes, THANK YOU KENT JONES FOR GIVING US A “lil” love while we go through this death in the family.
:cry::mad: :fustrate: :no: 😎 :alc:
:rant1: 😥
:fire: 😎 🙁 with a stiff upper lip sniff sniff
OMG, Krista, you’re right. Jim Earl IS Speedy the Alka Seltzer Guy. A perfect example of “Separated at Birth!”
I listened to the Thursday show again today. The death of Sammy the Stem Cell is the funniest bit of poignant insanity I’ve ever heard. MS was the most creative show I’ve ever heard on radio, and it actually rivals some of what I’ve seen on television. (Nothing at all similar in the movies. Michael Moore lacks a sense of humor, for instance. Talk about a progressive utopian with no sense of humor!) Tomorrow, KPOJ will reprise the Friday show and I’m not sure I’m ready to hear it, although I do want to hear my own shout-out again.
So here’s the recipe I put on the photo entry of the MS blog. I probably ought to post these somewhere else but what the hell…. I want to hear someday that Kent Jones brought this to Randi’s show. (I did appreciate her New Years wish for the departing members of the MS staff, that they get some well-deserved rest and then continuing success in a show at a reasonable hour…)
MANDARIN ORANGE CHEESE PIE
8 oz. softened cream cheese
1/4 cup orange marmalade
2 cups whipped topping ,thawed
2 cans mandarin oranges, well drained (you can also use peaches with peach jam)
9 in. graham cracker pie crust
Blend cream cheese and marmalade; stir in whipped topping. Place a single layer of oranges on bottom of pie crust. Spoon filling over oranges. Decorate top with extra oranges. Cover and chill overnight. Garnish with more topping if desired.
gypsy thx
WOW it sounds terrific — I have hopes to make this recipe this New Years WOW Yum Yum
:fire: 😎 😥 but with a stiff upper lip
sniff sniff
The Orange Cheese Pie is chilling overnight. I’m hoping to impress someone with it on Monday.
How do I use a smiley?
Lawton is undoubtedly reassured to know that Marc isn’t spamming us with enhancement products, but lurking conservatives might not be so easily convinced.
That’s OK. It’s only the lurking conservatives that actually need the enhancement products.
Hey Kent, when are YOU gonna get a web page. We would love to hear about your future endeavors also. And if you like, we can arrange to have a stalker assigned to you.:paranoid::grin:
I was really happy to see Kent post here yesterday. I mean, he could easily have just lurked, but he took the time to check in with us. Thank you, Kent!
I really hope he got one of the Mourning Sedition cookies I sent (yup, those were mine) and that he didn’t choke on the silkscreen like Brendan did!
D-oh!
Morning Seditionists…..
Jason here and feeling blue…when do you think we’ll hear word on Maron and a new show? I guess after the new year probably….:fustrate:
Man, this sucks!
It was really cool Kent Jones checked in…that make s me happy…
Sorry King Kong…didn’t see your comment…to use the smileys just click on it and it automatically throws it into your comments….
I just heard a greatsong by James McMurtry called “We Can’t Make it Here.”
The rest of the lyrics are here, and you can download the song (both an acoustic and full band version) here (they bleep out the word “shit” for some reason).
Why can’t we boycott AAR until they bring back MS?
Man you guys listen to this…..I just attempted to get on the Thom Hartmann online chat thing thinking I might see some familiar names like on the Laura Flanders blog, and was completely disappointed. Nobody home! Nobody home. I mean that literally. I talked to myself for like 30 minutes. There was nobody on the chat….:fire:
Well, we could (boycott AAR, that is). We could also boycott their advertisers (not that I buy a lot of Ovaltine as it is). Of course, it would take an awful lot of people pestering them and their advertisers to have an impact.
Then again, Marc has moved all his stuff (and cats) back to LA. He might not be willing to pack it all up and move back anytime soon. Sometimes it’s nice to be with your wife (it’s certainly safer than being with somebody else’s).
If they give Marc a good 2 – 3 hour daily show with the creative freedom (and budget) to do what he wants, then that would be great, and I’d certainly support it (I still think killing MS was bad for AAR, of coruse, and I don’t see the Reilly/Maddow shows competing in morning drivetime on AM radio).
My guess is, if anythign, they’ll offer him a crappy syndication deal with a small budget, and maybe some minimal assistance in marketing it.
I hope he takes it, and explicitly maintains the right to redistribute the show (that is, AAR can stream it live or its affiliates can buy it, but Marc keeps the rights to make podcasts available). I think if Marc can come up with a show website that offers subscription podcasting and a line of swag, he can do well. AAR doesn’t have the imagination to market properly, and they just don’t get the whole Internet thingie.
Hell, they bitch about the live stream not counting in the ratings, yet they stream indentical show with same commercials that they aren’t getting any revenue for. I’d put out an Internet-specific stream, and push ads for ISP’s, Gateway computers, tech and electronic stuff, etc. You might not get what you’d get for radio spots, but you aint getting anything right now. You could do cross promotion with sites like Daily Kos, Atrios, DU, etc. Ever see an ad for AAR on Kos? Ever see an ad for AAR anywhere, for that matter (not here where I live, of course, since we don’t have an affiliate)?
Well, I got a million ideas for ya Marc. Stick with me kid, and we’ll go places…. 😉
Yeah it’s too bad…Marc has grown into such a force….to let him go “fire him”, is pathetic. Stupid fxxxxxs! I want a daily show from 7 to 10. I’m in Japan and that would make it impossible for me to listen and blog. I don’t care about that. I want a great deal for Marc! ahhhhh man I feel down again :fire: …that woke me up…
And they wouldn’t let me sing the lyrics, ” I have to say that Danny Goldberg Blows”
Hey Jason, are you Brian from Everett?
That almost makes me mad..(kristapea you know me, I kow you)..No I’m not Brian from Everett and never intended to be…I just wanted a chance to put my two cents in….I guess I should’ve done it earlier. Damn it! :fustrate: Let’s all hope for the RISE of the Reluctant Messiah!!!! :fire:
I am mad, but not at you Kritsapea….sorry for letting loose…
I really wish I could have gotten on but probably would’ve been too nervous to utter a word…
I started my AAR boycott at the end of the Sedition rebroadcast. I have nothing against Riley. It must be sad for him to go to a plain old news show after being part of what’s bound to become a radio legend, but I can’t bear to listen while Goldguano turns AAR into the network for people with 6 figure incomes and a guilty conscience.
…and no imagination.
Mmmmmmmm!
MANDARIN ORANGE CHEESE PIE!
what was important to me was all of you.
hope theres some continuing continuity of community!
and…….? what was i gonna say? oh yeah!FIRETRUCK!!:fire:
I thought that you had gotten on the air and Brian’s song was the only one I remember getting on. I was confused.
Hey, guys, Maron is going to be on Conan O’Brien on Dec. 26. He will be the second guest, after Jeff Goldblum, and it’s originally from Aug. 8 of this year. I just thought you might want to check it out, you know, if you’re able to hear it.
Does anybody else think this is hilarious?:alc:
The dancing banana man is pretty good too.
Anyway, I’m off.
The Clan of Marc (teehee) What’s up dude?
Got any pot? 😆
Putting a “call” for travisdem_04
Calling travisdem_04, Calling travisdem_04, come in pls! 😎
:fire: 😆 😡 😥 but w/ stiff upper lip
sniff sniff
travis_04, the infamous one, The Seditionist (“bad boy”) 😎
Did I really see you? Or is this an illision? I too have to run, but talk later. my name will “hang” around…. 😀
and I LOVE these emoticons All of the “lil” dudes. (I have used :alc:, already — :rofl2:
Be “seeing” ya.
 :fire: :sad: w/ stiff upper lip
sniff sniff
ok well listened to some old podcasts today dont know how long i will be able to live without my fix of new ms:fustrate: i think i might get jittery tomorrow morning at 6:07 just the thought of it is making me nervous ok well im gonna go start plotting my run 4 congress i will be sedition party candidate #1 :40:
:fire:
As a member of the (lower 25th %tile, anyway) six figure income crowd, Goldberg can, in the words of my hero, Bender, “Kiss my shiny metal ass”.
As for what to do, I’m done with AAR unless they put programming on that I like. So far, all they’ve done is kill all the programs I listened to.
Yeah, this blog has a great emoticon selection – Thanks!
I’d like to compile a best of disc to pass around. Try to get the good banter plus some of the best bits and pieces(they would not fit on one disc by any stretch).I hope Marc makes all the talk show rounds, I want to hear him talk about his experiences at AAR freely and openly.
Hi everyone. I’ve been listening to MS ever since the election last year, and I’ve grown to love the show to the point that it “was” (sniff, sniff) part of my daily routine. I never posted much on blog, just a listener. But I plan on being a regular visitor here now that we’ve lost our morning program, and this the place I can come to greive, and hold onto the great memories. dammit, now i’m getting all emotional. I’ll catch you all later.
When Patrick at thesnotgreensea.com compiles every comedy bit from Morning Sedition, it will be fairly easy to put together numerous comedy CDs. If you can spare a few bucks to help Patrick, he will really appreciate it. He even posts your name to show his appreciation. As for now, “Where there once was a riot, there’s a whole lot of nothing.” (Rancid: Lock Step and Gone)
I’ll be checking in tomorrow morning. No show, but at least we have this blog. And I think it’ll be more fun than any radio show I know of. So I look forward to blogging you tomorrow. ‘night folks.
Randi was Perfect ❗
:fire:
Chuck D just gave a shout out to Maron, saying he will listen to him wherever he goes. He also gave a nod to Lizz. Not quite “fight the power”, but the AAR folks have shown some solidarity.
Whoa, Kent Jones drops by just to to say hello to us? Damn, this blog has paid for itself already!
💡 Does anyone know of the basketball team named The Generals? Night after night, year after year, in arenas all over the world, they lose to the Harlem Globetrotters. It isn’t that they lose because they’re bad basketball players, they lose because they’re paid to lose. Maybe that’s the real role of the DLC…year after year, they’re paid to lose.
As Michael Parenti says, “Just because we don’t know what they’re doing doesn’t mean they don’t know what they’re doing.”
Bush said “…the folks at NASA…”
So, is Air America now RepubliCrat Radio?
Happy Solstice folks!

And for fun check this brilliant piece out

The wizard of oil! (Condi is the wicked bitch of the east) great story line and image morphing!!!
the red ruby ferragamos, and Chainey as the ‘Sin Man”!
“I’M ONLY MADE OF PARTS
Oil Man: When an old man’s droolin’ spittle
And loose around the middle,
And with a worn out heart.
It’s because they keep exhumin’,
To the point that I’m inhuman,
And I’m only made of parts.
On a bender, I go mental,
I’m less than continental,
Disregarding life and art,
I defend the broken arrows,
As a boy I shot at sparrows,
Now I’m only made of parts.
For a fee, I’d drain the sea,
To pump the oil below…
Dubithy: Wherefore art thou, Conoco?
Oil Man: An oily teat… light and sweet!
Just to stop the drills transocean, heresy, commotion,
I think I’d fall apart.
I say bung, I’m the skipper,
Are you shocked, a double dipper?
For a war I’ve got to start!
