Well, I hope Marc made it back to LA without too many problems (I speak from experience when I tell you that a guy with a beard flying alone gets extra-special scrutiny going through security). It was great of Kent Jones to stop by and say hello over the weekend, and that group photo over at the Morning Sedition blog was great to see. I have to tell you, just remembering Marc’s mom from Friday still makes me tear up a bit. “I’m so proud of you, you did a terrific job.” It’s something my mom would have said. When Marc couldn’t say, “I woke up and my bed was filled with philosoph-….” it was very sad, and touching. But when he signed off for the last time, and the end music kicked in and then there was nothing but silence (I had to catch the end via the podcast, so when it ended, it just ended)…. Oy. That really got me. As for me, I intend to listen to the Dec 20, 2004 podcast today (it was the day that Monday fell on last year). Holy Shit! I’d better get my Christmas (oops, sorry Bill, I meant “Holiday”) cards out pretty soon.
thought i’d hang out here with friends to get me through the monday morning 3 a.m. California time for what should be on radio but isn’t anymore. hope marc is safe and sound in LA where the weather is clear and the temperature should be 71 degrees today.
Do you think it is possible for Marc to be the person we know and love in sunny LA?
I wouldn’t worry, isi….Marc was Marc before he moved to NY. If anything, this AAR decision will make him even MORE cynical and sardonic. Woot!
But on to sadder topics: I woke up, and was greeted by earnest greetings from Mark Riley. Nothing about geniuses, philosopher kings and queens, working class heroes, progressive utopians with no sense of humor, lurking conservatives….
So it’s Mark Riley and Brendan McDonald today. And while Riley is perfectly fine, it just isn’t, well, morning.
If Goldberg thinks that this is going to do better than MS, he’s out of his effing mind.
Marc, if you read this, good morning to our ultimate philosopher king.
:fustrate: Are Americans going to buy this bullshit from Bush?!?!
:fire: Riley is OK, but without Maron, this is going to be tough.
😡 So this is how I will begin each morning?
Great choices on the smileys btw! 🙂 Mark just TOTALLY isn’t Mark & Marc. I’m listening now, and it’s…flat. It’s just ordinary radio. It used to be extraordinary. 🙁
Ok…HAPPY thoughts…
Mourning everyone….so this is what they want huh…..I like Riley and everything but this is NO Morning Sedition. Laura Flanders was saying she had some big news last night regarding the AAR programming and then never said anything about it….
i was kinda hoping they’d play morning sedition re-runs until january. nope. i tried listening to riley but gave up after 20 minutes. he has a lot of energy and is earnest but the magic is definitely gone. it broke my heart when he joked with little goliath. familiar voices but the magic is gone.
Has anyone here checked out the site at MS. Is anyone on? I guess I could check myself…..but I don’t want to! Waaahhhh! 😳
Twenty minutes was all I lasted, too. Just started listeng to some of the bits at sbotgreensea.
Evening jasonwkinny.
OOh……Air America’s RAMP to Air America Mornings. WHy couldn’t they have Marc stay through the holidays? Have him leave and then just move on Jan. 2nd…to torture us like this? Then again…it would have been a 3 month brutal killing.
Hey King Kong!! Nice to see you here again…..this was such a freakin’ terrible decision! I hate it! I hate it! :fire:
yeah…..happy holidays Marc…here’s the door….replaced with more talking heads…smart move AAR! 😡
How did you show the firetruck?
King Kong, I tried to tell you before the other day…just click on the image of the emoticon you want and it automatically puts it into your message…you don’t have to type it in like before….
:fustrate: got it/ Thanks!
Good job Kong! Woo hoo!
When are you planning on going to Wisconsin? It’s been so cold and windy here today…bbburrrrr:eek:
I thought Goldberg didn’t want any comedy at all? I’m not saying that what I’m hearing this morning is comedy, but it does show dangerous hints of a sense of humor.
So is Goldberg going to fire Riley next? :fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::holla:
I don’t know man…but this isn’t gonna do it for me. They better give Maron a good show or I’m done with most of the AAR programming!
BAB: I agree and heed the call! :fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::holla:
:yawn::yawn::yawn::yawn::yawn:
BOOOORING!
RIley’s toast.
You bad Danny Goldberg….I don’t like Danny Goldberg….yeah,,,Danny Goldberg stole my shoe……
:fire:
My trip to the States, is a month away.
I agree gaijinda! Us in Asia will not be entertained as well as inormed in the evenings anymore. I will not stand for just Maron once a week!
Got ya’ Kong….keep warm….:fire:
Could Danny G be setting Riley up ?
Setting him up for what?
Setting him up to be replaced because DG expects low ratings.
yeah, but then replaced by whom? They already got rid of the best show on the network…I don’t think so isi….I don’t give DG that much thought capacity….
Went to the AAR main page and saw that Riley was on. Wasn’t going to torture myself listening to an amputated version of the show, a decision that seems wise, given the comments I’ve since read here. I don’t think I would even have listened to MS reruns . . . just prolong the agony. I need to cut ties with AAR, sadly, and ripping the Band-Aid off slowly over the last few weeks has been hard enough. I had to rip it all the way off when the real MS ended.
On a more hopeful note, we had Chinese food for dinner over the weekend and I got a “fortune” that struck me as very appropriate for Marc (and those of us mourning the loss of MS). It went something like:
There is a path through the mountains that cannot be seen from the valley.
Take heart, Seditionists!
Good Mourning wandering Seditionists. I listened to Riley for a while. I feel really bad for him being put in the position of having to fill Morning Sedition’s shoes. So I’m listening to an old show. Hearing the Chile Peppers opening licks made me cry. Hearing Marc’s voice made me cry. I’m still completely dumbfounded as to how someone could come to this decision. It seems so wrong like the murder of John Lennon, like it wasn’t supposed to happen like that, like history has been fucked with, like someone went back in time and stepped on that flower that made a ripple in history that changed the trajectory of truth and justice. “Love will tear us apart”
Morning KAHN! And Kristapea!
Is that what were left with over Christmas….just listening to the old shows? Man, this sucks. oh well, keep your fingers crossed for the reemergence of “MARON” the man that will reveal that DG is the idiot he is! How will he live that down? 😈
re: future of AAR
On Nov 1, 2005, the founder and ceo of democracy radio, Tom Athans (husband of Sen Debbie Stabenow and founder of the Ed Shultz and Stephanie Miller shows) joined AAR as executive vice president. He will head “AAR newly established syndication division, developing new programming to expand its lineup.”
In his letter posted on democracyradio.org, Tom Athans says, “…in recent months the company (AAR) has been reorganized, its business model and strategy have been revised, and a dynamic new managment team has been assembled with music industry titan Danny Goldberg leading the company as CEO. Air America is poised to expand and grow Progressive Talk like never before imagined…”
I find all this troubling news for real progressives. Does expanding AAR’s lineup mean adding Stephanie Miller and Ed Shultz?
Hey Citizenkahn, That fortune is a little synchronous with what I was watching this weekend. I had never seen The Sound of Music before and I laughed really hard at the end when they were escaping the Nazi’s over the mountains. It looked more like a picnic than an escape!:rofl2:
Nice research there isi! Nope, it’s just good for all the centrists out there.
Right left right left No! Center! That’s the DG view point. We’ll just have hosts protecting the Hillarys of the progressive movement…wtf? Make me wanna :40:
Hey everyone. I heard Riley for a while. Sad…sounded hollow, flat, lost…Soldiering on …The AAR website is unchanged. Maddow no where to be found. It’s all so bizarre and morbid. I hope we can all stay in touch.
:fire: :fire: :fire: :fire: :fire:
agree Kristapea…Kahn, nice fortune, I think I smell a Maron Revolution! Woo hoo!! :fire:
Hey DocFeelgood….that’s what we’re doing….yeah I checked out the MS site. Pretty dead over there….maybe oh maybe they’ll learn a lesson from this dreadful mistake!
Hey everyone Jim Earl has some STUFF on his page!
Hi Kristapea. “wandering seditionists” is a great way to express the feeling now. I’m at a loss on what to do with myself. I am wandering around the apartment not knowing what to do.
thanks Kristapea…I’ll check in over there at Earl’s site.
King Kong….download an old show, plop yourself down, and listen to the greatness that once was!
According to the AAR website, todays topics are high tech gadgets for christmas and the best TV shows of 2005. WTF!! I can wathch local news here in Philly for that crap. JEEZ!:fustrate:
think centrist Andy “ceeeentrist” it’s a good happy place with no problems… finally a caller says he misses Maron….way to go buddy!!
Just my opinion, of course, but I seriously doubt that if MM is back on radio it will be on AAR. I read in one of these posts over the weekend (someone listening to the rebroadcast of Thursday or Friday’s show) that “MM said ‘fired.'” Now, it’s true he may have misspoken–sometimes it feels like you’re being fired when the atmosphere is so hostile–but if he *was* fired, what are the chances they’d give him a new show?
And I’m not sure what to make of the way we’re parsing every sentence. We already know MM’s a “reluctant messiah”; let’s not scare him with our zealotry!
Because, p.s., I read in one of the hits I got for “Morning Sedition” on Google last night, that back in February MM’s contract had been renewed for at least two years. (At least I think that’s what it said. I’ll try to find it again.)
Got in to the office this mourning and out of habit hit the AAR preset on my XM (gotta clear that). The little window said “Morning Sedition”, and I heard Riley’s voice, and was briefly hopeful it was a “best of”. Wow, that hope sure got dashed. Keep waiting for something interesting to happen, and it never does . . . :fustrate:
The whole thing just sounds awkward. Probably over reacting, but the callers to Riley sound staged to me.
Missed the call about Maron – at least not all staged!
yeah Riley got outta that conversation pretty quickly…
The end is near as I heard “Jerry from Long Island” call in to Riley this morning. I suppose it is comforting to hear a familiar voice from other AAR shows pitch in, but I have a weird theory. Is it possible that Jerry pays money to get on the air?
Man, I just woke up. I figured there would be reruns, or something. Hearing Riley is a surprise.
What the hell is this crap? Product placement please…buy more buy more…Why doesn’t Riley talk about sports some more….I’ll listen to Maddow…..:fustrate:
I found it. Here’s the quote:
And it’s from a February piece in the New Haven Advocate.
Something’s not right here.
Travis Dem! Hey buddy what’s up!
The news isn’t looking good my friend…not good at all
Kahn…nice research…so that’s it. Maron was fired! 😡
Well this is the unofficial blog for his new show wherever that might be…
Hey, man.
News, you mean the ANWR provision that’s been stapled to the back of the Military spending bill, or something. Is that the news, or you talking about somethin’ else?
I’ll ckeck your site.
You’re right jasonwkinney. Of course to me being centrist means you don’t really believe in anything.
Interesting insight into the Christ-Fascist Zombie Brigade over at . It’s the third article down.
Oops. The article’s at onlinejournal.com.
No dude I was talking about what Kahn was talking about. It appears Maron was fired and the outlook for a new show for him on AAR is suspect……anyway nice to hear from ya’ again….and you gotta post a new one on your blog man!
I tuned in and heard Randi Rhodes for a minute. I thought Riley freaked out and quit or the like. It was a labored deleivery for Riley, and when he starts with sports scores, sorry, I’m outta there. Riley was an incredible straight man for Maron, they were like a cerebral Abbott and Costello, but now it is empty.
Just a thought…..There was mention on Thursday or Friday about the FCC leaning on AAR. Now I do know that Maron, Goliath, and others talked freely and fondly about drugs. The Partnership for a Drug Free America’s ads had increased. What is Maron’s salary, and how much does the Partnership give in advertising dollars?
Friday brought a tear to my wife and i as we rode in to work. Everyday we had laughs driving, some days of course more than others, and some days I just felt like puking from the occasional pretentious or overblown guest, but overall MS was One Bright Shining Light in a Sea of Radio Darkness.
A totally stupid move by Goldberg. There were 12 million listeners to Howard Stern daily. Approx 3 million signed up for his satellite broadcast. Where will 9 million go? MS was the logical choice. However, and I am only speculating, perhaps the FCC, the Bushistas, and The Christian Fascist Zombie Brigade got two for the price of one last Friday with Stern and MS.
Hey buddy,
Listened to Riley for a few minutes – couldn’t get through it though. Want to cry every time I think of what that bum goldberg did.
Love ya – miss ya so
citizenkahn:
Thanks for the link to the New Haven Advocate. A couple of quotes stand out: “The defining voice of Air America is probably that of the guy who kicks off the network’s broadcast day at 6am.” And, “With co-host Mark Riley, Maron has turned Morning Sedition into a breakthrough radio experience.”
I agree, something’s not right here.
Okay, so my brain is still a little foggy. I haven’t read the previous posts yet. FIRED! What for?
I’ll add a new post to my blog today. Don’t expect much for a couple of days after though, ’cause I’ll be out-of-it:doh:
Sneaking in five minutes at the computer to say good morning to my cyber friends in mourning. Listened for @50 minutes to Riley. Didn’t hear the phone call that spoke for us all, but did catch Riley saying a good morning to a list of people (not philosopher kings or queens)that ended something like to those of you struggling to gt rid of your morning habit, “and you know who you are.”
Crimmins helped today’s show by providing the first ten of 50 lies of the year. Mark knew his stuff, but the the pizazz wasn’t the same. I feel sorry for Riley because he’s got to have survivor’s guilt, but my feeling sorry for him doesn’t mean I will listen to the show.
I liked listening to Marc’s voice. Nourished by the funny, it held commitment, passion, and rage. God, I sound like a critic. Bottomline, I miss Marc’s warmth and genuiness.
No time to check for typos, everyone’s calling. I’m holding things up here. Bye for now.
Well, what Marc had said was that he’d signed a two-year contract, with the first year guaranteed, and AAR had the option of picking up the second year. They declined to do so. As I recall, they had until the first of November to let him know if they’d pickup the second year, and as that date approached, Marc began to express more and more anxiety over his situation. They also began billing the Nov. 3rd show as the “last live show.”
I started the petiton on Oct 31 and people flooded AAR with e-mail, snail-mail, and phone calls. I imagine that was why they decided to throw Marc a bone, and hint about a show for him. I still have doubts about it, and part of me would rather see him get a show on satellite, where he can do a show unencumbed by the FCC. I just don’t think AAR management has the creativity or interest to properly market an intelligent, educational, and entertaining show.
Don’t worry Travis…I’m always out of it…..:40:
Here ya go, Travis:
and here:
thanks for the clarity pjsauter.
I’m out for the night sheople! This will NOT be a very merry Christmas as far as my radio listening goes….
It’s all muddied-up. I don’t know what to think, man.
Of course, Riley’s show will never be anything like the sedition. But I think it will be a decent (early) morning radio show. (I am loyal to a fault.)
Hey NickyRose! Nice to see ya’ man. I know what you mean. But man, this sounded a little like the rest of the shows. I mean they’ll all sound the same!
Good Morning Geniuses:
I haven’t had the desire to listen to the Riley show. I checked the blog to see if there was any word from Maron; but was sad to see none. Hope all are coping. I’m happy to see so many familiar names on the blog.
“Where there once was a riot, there’s a whole lot of nothing” -rancid-
hey hatebuzz! Good morning Philosopher King! There was a caller early on in the Riley show that said he missed Maron already! Call didn’t last long though.
Hey you guys, Travis is having his ear surgery tomorrow at around noon to 2pm Alaska time. I set the alarm on my cell phone to remind me to give him a good thought during his surgery. :peace:
Yup, surgery tomorrow from 12:00 to 4:30 Alaska time. I feel really nervous about the whole thing.:paranoid:
thanks kristapea….what is Alaska time compared to Japan time? I’ll have to look it up….Don’t drink tonight Travis! Be a good boy and go to sleep at a proper time buddy! I wish you luck man!! 😉
Good luck travis, good thoughts for you from all around.
You’ll be alright buddy! I’ll post a news alert about it! How’s that?
Thanks Jason. What time is it in Japan. Is there more than one time zone in Japan. I guess I should look that up too.
I forgot all of my question marks, man.:?: oh well.
Hey, I’m listening to an old show from July 2004 and there was a Rapture Watch WITHOUT the Cardinal. Marc was doing it. I forgot about that. Jim musta taken it over and I’m glad he did!
Hey, I’m not going to be around to remind you, but Maron is going to be on Conan on the 26. You guys may want to check it. I think it may be sad because he will be promoting Morning Sedition. (The episod is from August)
Is there an edit thing on this thing?
Travis…you’re headline news! Check it out buddy!
Marc’s Firing Reflects on All
Can’t help it. His firing makes me wonder just who/what AirAmerica really is. Clearly, not what I thought. Can’t help it, but this sanctioned action, makes it reflect, on all there [the hosts included except maybe Big Ed.]
If Left of the Dial was the opener, then this chapter can only be called, “Witchhunt.” Given the same reign, I won’t be surprised if Captain Bozo doesn’t crash and burn the plane in short order.
VoteOften
Wow, thanks. That was fast. (is that a girls ear?)
Good luck, and a speedy recovery Travis. You have a lot of folks from around the world sending out positive energy to you. At least if you’re going to have ear surgery, after Marc was off the air was the best time to have it.
yeah sorry about that man….I just needed a quick image…plus I didn_’t wanna gross you out too much with operation images…
So it’s 11:50pm in Japan and it’s 5:50am in Alaska. Which day would it be in Japan?
Operation images! Yeah that would send me to the kitchen:40:
alright all, officially outta here! I’ll watch a downloaded Simpsons and then drift off to sleep. I gotta get up and teach Christmas lessons tomorrow! Good luck Travis!
Anyone know if there’s a podcast or MP3 of the “new shows”:crap:? I certainly wasn’t going to waste my time getting up early for them or even setting up my PC to record it live (as I used to do with MS so I could listen only an hour delayed and not have to wait for the podcast/mp3 to come up). But I thought I’d listen just to see what the heck they’re doing. I can’t imagine why it would be better than listening to NPR in the morning.
Hmmm.. now what am I going to do in the mornings… might as well move Happy Hour up a 10-12 hours! :40::alc::banana:
Thanks everyone!
it’s almost Tuesday here Travis. Goodnight!! Love ya’ll!! 😛
“new shows” podcast: no idea. I’ll see if it downloads to iTunes. Also, I wonder where AARplace will file them.
So, I think that Morning Sedition encapsulates a very important historical time that CANNOT be forgotten. I don’t think that the last Future Marc could be too far off. If these shows are passed around whole (minus commercials of course)they could be historical evidence of crimes against democracy. A fun and informative history lesson.A tool to push for electoral reform and to remind future generations what happens when the people become distracted and apathetic.
Hey, Kristapea, I’m glad someone else is weepy at the drop of a hat over this. I put on the radio this morning and Mark Riley was doing HIS “good mornings” to various people, and I wailed to Mr. Brilliant and to the cats, “Where are the geniuses? The philosopher kings?”
This just sucks.
And I feel so badly for Riley. He knows full well that this isn’t what people want, and the guy who called in and said, “I miss Maron already” — well, I don’t think he meant to be cruel, but it’s the truth.
It would not surprise me if he is being set up.
Did anyone listen to Randi on Idiot’s Delight on Saturday night? She said some interesting things about how Ed Schultz is really a Republican. There are some unofficial ID sites that archive the show; if anyone’s interested I can try to find a link to an archive.
Why, we’re right here, of course. 😉
Idiot’s delight? That sounds right up my alley (interesting how one can be both an idiot, and a genius; I’ve heard that Danny Goldberg is one, but have only seen evidence as to the other).
By the way, if you didn’t get a chance to see Marc with Greg Giraldo on Comedy Central, you can watch it here (after you land on that page, you have to hit “enter now” in the “System Status” box, and it requires Internet Explorer). Nice long segment, and there’s a picture of young Marc with Sam Kinison.
Finished one meeting, got to get ready for the next, but taking time to check in before I prepare for it.
If it weren’t for this blog, I’d be drowning in chocolate.
brilliantatbreakfast,
I’d love to listen to the show.
Awhile ago, I have Ed Schultz talk about his political transformation. He attributed it to “the lovely Wendy,” his wife. Apparntly she worked at s homeless shelter or some other social service. According to Big Ed, she took him on tours which woke him up.
Travis, all the best tomorrow. I’ll send you sunlight from 12-4:30 Alaska time.
” see Marc with Greg Giraldo on Comedy Central”
Not without a PC. IE for Mac won’t play it. Any suggestions?
Back at you Jason:
Any word from Marc?
:fire:
According to their minimum requirements, it’s Windows 2000 SP4+, Windows XP only. No luck for Linux or Mac, I guess. :rant1: Too bad; it plays fullscreen quite nicely.
Just saw this over at this thread at Air America Place:
They’d have gotten me if there was still a Morning Sedition. They’ll really need to give Marc a daily, two or more hour show to get me now.
Just another reason why killing MS was a stoooopid move. Even if AAM turns out to be popular, what are the odds that anybody’s going to want to listen a “news” show in a week, month or year? OK, now, how many of you are planning on listening to your personal MS archives from last week, month year? Or the funny bits from thesnotgreensea?
Thanks for checking.
Ramp to Air America radio episode 1 is on AARplace.
again…..
:fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate:
Hey Travis, good luck with the operation! Hope they give you some good drugs to take home.
I’m listening to BBC now. Only way to get real news …
Hey, thanks, PJ…I recorded that show, but for some reason Maron wasn’t on. I’ll check it out.
Idiot’s Delight is the show Vin Scelsa has been doing for about 400 years now. NY area Seditionistas are probably familiar with the show.
You can download an mp3 or zip file here.
Travis, I’m thinking all kinds of healing thoughts for you (or however you want to phrase it…sending you healing doesn’t do it for some.)
Did anyone else notice that the AAR website appears crashed and when I tried to get into the old MS blog it isn’t there? Which means I can’t get into the archives there either. Did some of us do that or did the AAR webslaves do it? Or am I just insane? I’d believe any answer.
Since we had an ice storm and my executive director cancelled work for today I slept in. Nice way to ease into an MS free morning world. Poor Riley, having to hold the fort in this kind of atmosphere. (But I see no reason to help him out. He’s a pro, and he can do it. I like him but I like him as Marc’s sidekick…)
Well, I’m off to make tamales for a party Friday night and then to do some sewing (got all the wood burning done!) Talk to you later. (Probably with my tamale recipe…)
Listening to Riley’s show was a bit like eating America’s Choice Corn Flakes for breakfast.
Too generic. Something missing. Like eating the cardboard box instead of the Kelloggs Corn Flakes.
Hey Travis — don’t sweat the surgery.
(One bit of advice: don’t drink any Everclear between now and the surgery. If the doctor’s cigarette ash falls inside you during surgery you don’t want a flash fire!)
Just kidding, just kidding. Seriously, Travis, I’ve have more than a few surgical procedures over the years and they have really made progress. Safety and comfort are amazingly good now. General anaesthesia nowadays is no big deal and you are not destroyed for days. My lastest two heart surgeries were “in by 9 out by 5” tricks.
We’ll be waiting to hear how it went. You’ll be waiting to “hear” how it went as well!
Could not listen this morning. I’m still crying. My husband listened for about 30 seconds and then turned it off. Well, I guess it’s back to working out at 5:30 AM and downloaded music on the commute to work. Mornings will never be the same.
😥
@$!*&@!!!! it was back to Carl Cassell this morning instead of News Daddy. I switched briefly at 6 past to see what that gelded jackass Goldberg was filling time with until 1/2 and heard Riley talking about folks going cold turkey. I just plugged in a Goon Show CD at that point. Sedition spoiled me…I can’t do the commute thing without a laugh fix any more.
Good luck with that ear surgery Travis!
Good Luck Travis!
Thanks for your vigilence on the blog.
It can’t be Monday…nobody is chopping onions.
Someone is chopping onions – why am I still crying?
Good luck Travis – you’ll be fine. Enjoy the pharmaceuticals.
Don’t get Travis’ psyched about the good pharmaceuticals. They may just pipe AAR (All Anesthesia Radio) into the operating room to put him under. Jerry, Jerry, zzzzzzzz.
Good luck with surgery tomorrow Travis:smile:
Woke up to NPR – UGH – I just CAN’T go back there. So tuned in to aar. I also thought we’d get a “best of” this am. I listened to a bit of Riley. But when he and Wayne G refused to call Wayne “News Daddy,” to the point of referrencing it but saying that was before…I knew the end was nigh. Throwing out everything friendly and wonderful was disappointing. :crap:
So, if they want a brand new show – on ramp to the mornings – they’ll have to get brand new listeners.
So why didn’t they give Rachael 5 – 7 and the boys 7 – 10. THAT would have made sense. (and an hour less of springer would be a bonus.)
Alas.:fire:
Aw, jeez. Do I have to watch ‘Pootie Tang’?
Jim Earl
Farmerkat, I think the only listener that matters to AAR anymore is the one in the corner office. They may as well call it Air Goldberg Radio because he’ll be the only one listening before long.
My world is so quiet without AAR on all day. Even though I’d long since stopped listening (or started listening halfheartedly) to most of the other shows, I loved having AAR on every radio in the house and tuning in while I was doing laundry, dishes, or just reading e-mail. It’s amazing how much a part of my life this show had become.
****
Travis, it’s gonna be okay, buddy! We’re all pullin’ for ya!
****
Was doing errands today in Astoria and decided to go to Marino Bros (better late than never) for fish, instead of heading up to Yonkers, where I usually buy it. (I forgot my rule about never buying fish on Monday.) The guy who waited on me was picking his teeth with his finger as he approached me. Then, realizing I’d seen him, he wiped his finger in the bed of chopped ice on which the fish is displayed, before using the same hand to pick up my fish! 😕 The salmon was dried out and even a little cruddy looking (hence my rule about never buying fish on Monday) and I couldn’t bring myself to cook it when I got home. I hate to waste food, but yecch! I’ll stick with Yonkers for my fish!
Thanks for letting me ramble here . . .
I know what you mean about quiet. I used to listen to wake us to MS, work with Unfiltered and Ring of Fire or Laura Flanders while doing laundry. I’ve been listening to community station, CDs or NPR during Randi and Al, epecially after Katherine left. It’s much quieter in the ol’ hobbit hut now. It’s back to music (mostly Jazz or Nordic Folk Music)or the tons of BBC Comedy I’ve aquired from friends in Sweden and the UK.
I’m already back to getting info and news from blogs, alternate publications (Nation, Progressive, In These Times) and the British and Canadian press.
Travisdem04
See, The Force of The Blog is with you. 😎
From 12:00noon till 4:40pm – ish Alaska time
But can you tell me when you are leaving your home? And when you might be arriving at the hospital?
(If I can only ask one question, I choose the first
Be well, I will be checking this place periodically. 🙂
Hello everyone. Glad to see that this counter blog is so active. Am listening to Malloy as he substitutes for Randi Rhodes. This is one of AAR’s strengths–when Malloy substitutes.
I think Riley’s show will be ok. At least as good as Maddow’s.
Bring back Morning Sedition! Can Dan!
Hey Laurie fron Astoria!
How’s the fish?
I dunno {{[ kahn }}} that sounds pretty disgusting. Like the time I went to a kroger grocery store and the bagger picked his nose (bury the finger kind) and then started bagging my food. I asked him to stop and leave my groceries alone. Yech!

listening to Malloy (when will dannyGrinch pull him?) and I just can’t believe these repuks are even trying to justify warrantless wire taps. Who the hell are these people:?: 😡
Farmerkat, if you want to insure Malloy survives on AAR, just write to letters to Goldberg saying you think he’s a boring prat with a voice that would only please a rutting vicuna. Not only will Goldberg keep him, but give him more airtime as well.
Hello everyone. I have today and tomorrow off work, so I missed Riley this morning. Despite most of the comments, I think I’m going to give him a shot on Wednesday, but will probably also bring in some comedy CDs in case the experience is too depressing. (No offense, Mark.)
Keep in mind that MS didn’t start off going full force as the show we all came to love. Remember that clip they played from the first show? Yuck. But it came to life eventually.
Let me see if I can get this emoticon thing to work properly.
It WORKS!!!
Travis, good luck with your ear surgery. I understand they’re doing wonderful things with anesthesia these days, but you would know better than I. :40:
:40: You know, for a long time I thought this was a baby bottle but I realize now that it’s a bottle of beer!
I will probably listen to the old shows, maybe chronologically to get a better feel for the growth the show went through. I’ll be able to write a dissertation by the time I’m done. The show just kept getting better and better and did so pretty quickly after Sue left. We’ll take obsessive fanhood way past what the Trekkies and the Star Wars people have accomplished!
I really love that banana!
It’s great to see everyone’s morning responses. I listened to Riley this AM for about fifteen minutes before giving up. I really wanted to like him, but w/out Marc M it’s not good radio anymore.
So, I’m switching back to WBAI’s “Wake Up Call” (if you’re streaming or podcasting it’s http://wakeupcallradio.blogspot.com/
I was a regular listener to that show for its great indepth news coverage, but I got converted to AirAmerica for “The funny”:rofl2:
Now, I guess I’ll have to go back to really serious news in the AM, because even the earnestness on WBAI is better than Riley w/out Maron.
It is heartwarming to see such an active blog on the first day.
Today is the first day I have not listened to AAR since its inception. It is the first day I didn’t look forward to waking up early.
I am waiting for suggestions as to how we get MS back. I need a sheppard.
“Where there once was a riot, there’s a whole lot of nothing.”:yawn::cry:
-rancid-
Without MS my morning was:crap:
 What the hell are they doing to poor Riley:?: He did ok, but we all know what was missing:cry:
:fire::!::!::!:
I believe that Morning Sedition was cancelled because the management feared that the show was too unruly. Not because of politics. No host has yet to step outside the bounds of America’s political spectrum. Malloy mentioned Social Democracy a few days ago.
I like it when other hosts substitute. Refreshing! Malloy on Rhodes, Hartmann on Majority Report.
I think Rilet will develop a decent News Show. Nothing Can Replace Morning Sedition! Long Live Morning Sedition!
Organize the Seditionistas:peace:
How’s the fish, L?
I guess we just wait and see at this point. Give Marc a chance to cool his heels and do something with that website and hopefully we’ll get an email soon. I don’t see Morning Sedition coming back in its original form or even close. Whatever kind of gig he gets is not likely to be a 3 hour show(God! I hope I’m wrong!).I think we have been a part of a once in a lifetime happening.
What if everybody on this blog called every AAR program [except Reilly’s] every day and started each call with “Hey Buddy, what’s up?”
I see people are blogging at this site all day long. Very good, very good! Thanks again to PJS for the crib.
I tried to listen to Riley solo this am, but I just couldn’t do it. I been ravaged and ruined by MS; those lads didn’t just raise the bar, they blew it right into the stratosphere. Now, every other radio show seems to me to be stuck in the 1970’s …well, except for Fearless Molloy.
A show with as strong a cult following as MS was destined for really big things. Goldberg had only a small window of opportunity to kill it, because it would have eclipsed him very soon. To insecure wet farts like Danny G., staying on top of the pile is far more important than the success of the project. Small business guys do that all the time: choke their own enterprise when it begins to outgrow their limited abilities.
Travis, best of luck in the surgery tomorrow. A bright side is that for weeks after, you’ll be able to ignore anyone you choose.

It ws so great to learn that some of you had your radios tuned to AAR. For us it was 950AM, “a sharp left turn on your dial.” AAR followed me around –from my fourth floor attic to my basement laundry room. It became a joke in our family that my husband loved to tell.
But for my cat’s meow and Jeffrey’s words and music, the house is quiet–not silent, just quiet. I don’t even stream Randi anymore.
Like everyone else, I miss Marc and the funny big time. It just wasn’t the same doing my knee exercises to the Ramp or whatever it is Riley caled his show, I know he is trying, but it is just not the same.
Someone on the MS blog wrote today, though, that we need to give Riley a chance, that he, polite, non-egotistical soul that he is, had been in M M’s shadow. Moreover, he accepted that position with grace and did not complain. From her perspctive, the show, though great, was just “too white.” Her words gave me pause, but the reality is that the chemistry of MS has been diluted. It jsut isn’t the same.
I’m going to LA to visit my son in February and keep hoping that Marc will be having a gig right when I am there.
Now for something controversial. Lots of you keep raving about Mike Malloy. I’ve only heard him a few times–when he subbed for Springer and the few times I’ve been able to stream him at night. I loved him on Springer, but was shocked by the way he talked to people during his nighttime slot.
Having discovered blogging thanks to MS, I sent Mike an e-mail about something he hd said and was surprised by two things: first that I got a response and second by what he wrote. It was vicious. Among other things, he accused me of baiting him (that never crossed my mind) and threatened to block my name from his e-mail. The e-mail was so awful, I never streamed his show again. Instead, if everyone else is asleep, I listen to Lionel or music on the radio, read, or write to you asI am doing now.
Kristapea, I hope you got my thank you note.
Good night and good luck!
I guess the old saying: “Misery loves Company…” is truer than I thought.
It’s been quite a relief to read so many angry, disappointed, and sad posts. I understand and feel exactly the same.
I didn’t realize Riley was on today. I’m a podcaster, so I will look and see if there’s a file to download.
I love Riley’s contribution to the show. He is always on point with his information, but it was Maron’s “not so polished” exterior that I grew to love.
To the creators of this site….Thanks.

On Malloy. You shouldn’t have, DrDance. He would bite the head off of a live chicken if it started leaning right.
Must be some sort of defense mechanism from being in the left-side of the radio business for so long.
Welcome aboard, Tony. I wish Riley the best; he’s a good man. I just can’t bring myself to listen (yet; maybe later).
It’s not just missing the show. Had Marc gotten tired of doing it and left, I’d have been bummed, but would have understood. The way this was done, though, has turned me off to all of Air America. I just don’t feel the same way about it anymore (and I waited eagerly for the debut of the network, before I’d ever heard of Marc Maron).
Honestly, AAR is dead to me now. Maybe that will change, but I doubt it. It’s not that I don’t want to listen to Air America anymore; I just don’t have any reason to.
Yes, I feel the same. Everyone, except MS and Malloy were/are just reiterations I had heard on the internet 2 or 3 days before. Listening to Franken following the government line on 9/11 and the November election just makes me want to puke.
MS made the same news entertaining, ans informative at the same time.
Robert Anton Wilson once said that the first sign of Intergalactic Intelligence will be a sense of humor.
Damn, it was empty today, like the passing of a relative or family member:sad:
re: franken following the government line
If Franken lived in 1776 he would be saying something like, “well, i don’t think a revolution is such a good idea, the british haven’t been all that bad.”
Hey, NickyRose:
Fish bad! Me no like it! (PJ, we need a “blech” emoticon!)
And, PJ, I TOTALLY agree with your last post. TOTALLY.
Citizenkahn, great scoop re: Marc’s contract. But PJ’s quote, that the 2nd year was optional and AAR declined, sort of indicates that he was more like “let go,” right? Still that doesn’t make AAR, suits and hosts alike, any more acceptable (like VoteOften pointed out)…Management is playing the corporate world and the hosts are playing the DLC. Et tu Malloy?, Garafalo?…Really tough to fathom. 🙁 🙁 :40:
Somebody, say it ain’t so. 🙁
travisdem_04,
I wish for you Safety during your adventure. Be well on your travels. 😎
:fire:
Isi,
You are spot on. Franken is one of the phoney “Liberals”, that are basically looking out for their own fame and fortune. More nefarious than that? That’s for one to decide.
What I do know is that being a Leftist does not automatically give a fastrack to the truth. There is a false dichotomy set uo between the left and the right, and I’ll take Republican Ron Paul from Texas any day over butt wipes like Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman.
There is something not in sync with AAR now. Can’t quite put my finger on it, but I have some suspicions. I would guess Marc Maron does now too.
Question – Is Riley’s show available for podcasting? If so, what is listed under? I couldn’t find it in the iTunes Store.
Oh and PJ, thank for the Welcome. :peace:
Still hold’n out for Maron,
TonyATL
