According to a statement released by Abdul Maajid Ima Faahti, spokesman for Osama bin Laden, Al-Qaeda has officially suspended all activities in their war against freedom. In the statement, released by bin Laden’s law firm, Shapiro, Goldberg and Smith, Ima Faahti said:
We used to hate the infidels for their freedom. But with the pig Bush and his secret courts, secret warrants, secret prisons, suspect torture, massive data gathering on all aspects of his own citizens including medical, library, and financial records, the imperalist dogs no longer have any freedoms. Ha! My 23rd wife has more freedom, and I keep her tied to a tent pole.
When asked what bin Laden’s future plans were, Ima Faahti stated, “He would like a nice delousing, some dialysis, and perhaps tickets to the Jerry Springer show. He loves that Springer.”
oooh… clean sheets
Thanks for all the great work PJ..
Malloy is a little hard to listen to this time of day. Ms screech aka Rhodes was just a little better though.
C-span2 still has the senate on.. are they still meeting ?? Some rethug dip was still trying to sell ANWR.
On closer examination C-span has a tiny Wednesday label up in the corner of the screen. I thought that the rethugs might be trying to sneak a fast one in.
I wonder if you put Epiclear on a rethug if….
They are after all often referred to as the pimples on the ass of progress.
I have wondered if your state has a make my day law and your congrasshole votes something that threatens your life or the life of someone in your family can you use your congrasshole for target practice ??
Morning Evening
As an errant Cheesehead, I’m pretty happy with my Senator. My Congrassman and I have words. I don’t agree with some of his votes.
I’m going to try not to blog. See ya (’cause I probably will).
Good morning fellow Seditionistas. Random observations:
1) Good to hear from Maron yesterday. Hopefully I can get an iPod cheap after Christmas.
2) Speaking of Maron, he’s on Conan next Monday night. It’s a rerun, but I haven’t seen it yet.
3) ANWAR survives! Sen. Maria Cantwell is my new sweetheart this week. On Wednesday’s thread, Farmerkat posted an opportunity for you to thank her for keeping our northern reaches oil-free. Remember, the reindeer can’t fly as fast if they are soaked in 10W40. π₯
4) The Riley show was OK yesterday. I’m trying it again today. We’ll see how it goes.
5) Mike Malloy should ALWAYS cover Randi’s shift when she’s away. He was getting SERIOUSLY bent yesterday afternoon. Even for him. Hilarious.
6) Quietgirl, did you get your exam results back yet?
7) Has anyone heard from Travis? :40:
IMPEACHMENT!!!
VIGILANCE!!!
:fire:
hilarious opening statement from bin laden. what a sad state our country is in. this all happened in a few short years right in front of our eyes.
hope travis can get well enough to get to a computer and find out that marc has a new show with all the best writers. get well soon travis.
this is the 1st morning since november that we know that all is well with marc. such a relief.
Xanadu with Splenda is my nomination for the name for marc’s new show.
With that line up maybe Marc’s new program should be “The Maron Men.”
Good Morning everyone-
I came home late last night from the Swedes (turns out the Franken book does make a great gift…who knew?) and found the email from Marc!
Im so relieved that we will be at least able to podcast it and it is a good positive next step for him.
I feel bad for Riley. I think that the master plan is probably to give the morning to Rachel as her star rises and that it was too humiliating to give Riley just the 5-6AM slot. I feel like he is just following a flat format that has been decided on by the powers that be and like hes not really that comfortable.
I also dont much like his jokes and I find myself a little put off by some of what he says…oh well…
I end up just feeling bad.
What is missing is charisma…and Marc is likely going to move upwards from here. I dont see Riley as being able to do much more than this. But Marc I can see doing TV and movies…thoug I prefer him as a commentator…he could have any sort of show he wants if he keeps developing these skills.
So, MS was a great experiment…groundbreaking…and most important, maybe, it was a great training ground which showed Marc that he really loves this sort of work. I find that excitinig because we can hopefully now look forward to years of comentary from him.
Im at a loss this AM for names for the show…and depending on the format, which I guess is topical comedy, only one thing comes to mind for me:
The Funny with Marc Maron.
I dont think that he should use Sedition in the title because that is over….the chemistry that made that show is not going to be duplicated…and he should have his name in front…
Im still thinking.
I guess I shy away from anything too clever (a la “OFranken) because you eventually might want to change it. I think he will have plenty of opportunity to stick it to DG…and a group of guys very willing to help. Its going to be excellent!
Have a great day everyone. Im off to try to find a working exterior plug for the lighted deer and get some of the wrapping done…we dont even have our tree yet!
Our card is signed “from a couple more soldiers in the war on Christmas”…it came out very cute but is only hot off the press now…and Im low on ink of course! So they are late this year I guess.
Is there a picture posting thing here? Maybe we could post our x-mas/holiday pics somewhere…?
will chekc back later on….Melina
your bin laden statement gave a great laugh….thanks, need all the laughs i can get….
Without a trace of irony, the movie reviewer on Riley’s show was pushing a Dave Chapelle film as his “legions of fans miss him since he left Comedy Central”.
Good Morning Seditionistas! I went to sleep happy happy! I thought of another name, The News, The Phat and the Funny. If someone can think of something a little better than “phat” lemme know.
Hello out there!
Seditionistas Unite:peace: Break the chains of neo-liberal fascism.
Bye People. Have much to do today:omg:
Vigilance:!:
Nothing intrinsically wrong with Riley. You can just tell when he puts it in cruise control, he starts reading from his notes and gets all sing-songy in his delivery. With Marc as a foil, Pops starts speaking extemporaneously and the words and thoughts just flow from his tongue like butter. It’s a thing of beauty.
The first rule-of-thumb in talk radio is not to read from a script, or at least not make it sound like you are reading. Callers that start reading from a book or article or prepared notes deserved to be dumped. The Dog of the Week isn’t as good at it can be because Riley recites it. If you ever heard Mike Papantonio’s Pap Attack from the Unfiltered show or Ring of Fire, you get the flavor of someone who has mastered the pre-prepared delivery.
Maron reading on air doesn’t mattter because it is Maron reading and he is just so darn engaging no matter what he does.
The News, the Cats, and the Funny?
But the thing is that also Riley is not good on humor delivery unless he is set up by someone with real humor…so these things like what to call lil’ Goliath are just painful.
I also was so pissed when he let the issue of Bill gates drop when he had a caller with a real point. He said that anyone who gives that kind of money to Africa or AIDS or whatever can be forgiven some of his other transgressions…BUT, the transgression was in being a deregulated CEO who takes incredible profits while off shoring jobs….then using the gains to make like he is Mother Theresa. Riley seemed like he just didnt want to talk about it. I had the feeling that Marc would have said OK we’ll come back after this and go into this more…
It just seemed like it wasnt on Riley’s script.
I hate to not like his show…but as a straight talk show or news show I really would prefer to watch Imus for the guests or …really anything. Maybe Ill start listening to Opie and Anthony (kidding here…I tried and it was too gross…)
Ive been exploring this http://www.pandora.com program that Rachel talked about the other day. I fond that I can listen to that and read Huffington post and be OK in the knowledge that between Rachel’s show and Maron podcast I can get past the Springer void…heh…

PJS:
If the War on Terror is indeed over, then the rethugs are going to have to find another family dog to start kicking to vent their perceived frustation. With the NYC transit strike in gear, I have a feeling we will see a Global War on Bicyclists (or GLOB for short).
Us bikers have nothing to do with the strike but we will have to suffer through the consequences.
Riley is long time radio. Marc learned, well really, radio, from him. Riley, however, learned from Marc. ‘Pops’ learned a new funny with a partner. He must be feeling the cleave. π₯
As a pro, he’ll continue to grow.
But then, on MSNBC there is apparently not even enough room to ride amongst the walkers during the rush hour…some biker was on the news complaining…Maybe its the walkers who have to go!!
seriously, I can see the misinformation coming from even MSNBC and not understanding it in full Im afraid that the support that the strikers had from alot pf people is turning into frustration and anger.
Funny how the anger tends to go towards the victim in these cases….
I agree with Mark Riley re: Bill Gates. And, as far as Imus is concerned, I can never go back to his racist and sexist show after Morning Sedition.
Melina,
Everything you said was spot on. I would have asked the Time person since Gates had his wife with him, why didn’t Bono had his wife on the cover with him. She has done just as much as Mrs. Gates, with her own charity-driven clothing label.
On Opie and Anthony: I tried listening to that yesterday on XM and feel totally bewildered. I sent something to an XM program director the other day and this is the response I got back:
Even the guys in charge of XM think Opie and Anthony are dopes! How’s that for corporate backing?
:alc: Hope Travis is OK. He’s here:

Is this Safari or IB not following the rules?
IPod’s are really better suited to music and individual songs. I use these little cheapy MP3 players from the rack that attach to a lanyard. Load up a bunch of shows and you can select them individually. I have both an IPod shuffle and a DNKY mp3 player and only use the latter.
Hey King Kong I like that because “cats” could have 2 levels, one being Marc’s cats and I’m sure that we will be hearing quite a bit about how the ferals are mixing with the domestics. And cats could also refer to Jim and Bruce and Mike etc in a jazzy way.
It was really nice waking up this morning and reading the posted email from Maron. Of course I went looking through my mailbox wondering why I wasn’t sent a copy. Then I found it in the SPAM Folder. (Blasted AOL) Anyway…that’s been corrected, but thanks for watch’n my back. π
I haven’t heard Riley’s show just yet. I can’t stand the chick that does all the shouting. (Sounds no different than Hannity to me and I tune it out.) Anyway, I can’t seem to get myself together in the mornings to listen to him. Hopefully he’ll make podcasting available. I couldn’t find any mention of it through the iTunes Store.
In reference to the Transit Strike. I honestly feel for all sides. There was a story of a dude who couldn’t attend his brother’s Wake. His only mode of transportation were the trains. It was heart wrenching.
However, the transit workers are fighting for the livlihood of their families and the “younger” kids coming up in the ranks. Yes we’re only talking raising the amount paid out from 2% to 6%, but if you open the box…when will it stop? Companies have already proven several times since the Bush Whitehouse took over that there is no such thing as employer loyalty. Are we to expect the Fed. or State Government to be different?
I think I’m going to have to stand with the transit workers on this issue. (Though it’s MUCH MUCH easier to take that opinion as I’m not walking my happy ass over the Brooklyn Bridge in freezing temperatures. My attitude could possibly change if that was the case!)
Besides, NYC is beyond ridiculous when it comes to the cost of living. I was there for the USOpen in late August and was amazed at just how much more expensive “everything” was as compared to other cities. A dinner at Ruby Tuesday’s was close in price to a 4-Star Restaurant here in Atlanta.
I honestly think this 6% raise could potentially land many folks in the “poor house”. Especially since the cost of health care is consistently rising. Most people can’t afford to pay out anymore.
Sad…
Here’s a shout out to Travis:peace: Get better so you can get back online!:40:
Tony-
thes 6% over 10 years, I believe…and its more about the pension really. The new hires will never get a proper pension.
Someone at the gym yesterday said to me ‘well, some of those guys make $70,000 a year!’…but I have to say, being a lifetime NYer that you absolutely cant raise a family and think that you can buy a house or an apartment and send kids to college, much less eat out see a show or a ballgame, on that…its just too damned expensive!
So when the union head says that he refuses to doom his worker to a life where they never will be able to crack the middle class, I have to stand with him. Plus that MTA management sucks and its a dangerous job involving being a first responder and being responsible for thousands of lives per day…
If there was no money in the system I would not be behind the union, but again, we see the top getting good salaries and bonus’ and the workers being screwed…why cant they spread some of that oney around the workers? I swear, if they could have the trains and buses driven from India by computer they would!
As far as Gates goes, I am an admirer of his products but I dont like his business practices…and I think that who should be persons of the year are the out of work IT guys who gave up their jobs so that Gates could make a zillion dollars per year and donate it to good causes!
What would it be like if Gates took a couple of billion dollars and supported American factories producing his products and paying the workers a living wage with benefits? he might change the way thatbusiness sees and does everything! You could say that the stuff was made in America and charge a couple of bucks more and people would probably gladly buy it…as a sales strategy I think it would work…
Got to run into the cold not…have a great day y’all!
Melina
re: marc’s new show.
I hope Marc is able to get at least one person of color on his new show, since he has lost Mark Riley. Part of what made Morning Sedition so unique and enlightened was the conversation they were able to have about race. It was unique to all of tv and radio.
Hey everyone.
– While washing the dishes yesterday, I found myself thinking – I wonder how Marc is doing in LA. About an hour later, I got my answer. I have to smile even now when I think about how good it felt to hear from him.
– So, it seems that I’m not the only one who bought an iPod specifically to listen to MS. After 8 months, for the first time, it’s collecting dust. I promised AAR that I’d stop listening after 12/16 and only broke that promise twice – 5 minutes of Riley streamed and half-a-show of Laura Flanders downloaded. The only plus side to this whole MS fiasco is that I feel liberated from my iPod shuffle and AAR. (Though I’d be more than happy to strap that ball and chain right back on as soon as Marc’s new show starts podcasting!)
– As for the name of the new show, at first I thought it had to somehow involve the word “sedition”, but now I have to agree with Melina; that part is over. I have to say though, “Morning Sedition” was such a perfect name. (Just found myself wondering who first came up with that).
I looked for some anagrams of “Morning Sedition” and came up with “Innermost Indigo”. If Marc were planning on doing a sort of laid-back, cool jazz, beat poetry kind of gig, it might work. But considering he’s probably not thinking along those lines, I guess it’s back to the ol’ drawing board for this Seditionist.
Enjoy the rest of the day/night everyone.
How about “Smiling Through the Apocalypse”?
How about Armageddon β the Musical or Walt Disneyβs Apocalypse Now?
Hey Melina!
I agree, there’s no way a family will survive in NYC on $70,000! It’s sad to acknowledge the fact since in so many other areas that type of money will get you a nice house, a car, extra-curricular activities for the family, and a savings. Whereas in NYC, it will be next to impossible to buy anything in the city.
In reference to “Bill”, I am a career IT Professional. From the stock market issues of 2000 to job responsibilities going to India; I’ve been laid off 4 times in fifteen years.
In the early 90’s, I changed my major in mid-stream from a Doctorate in Pharmacology to Network Engineering. The industry was exciting and there was a ton of money to be made.
That was the biggest mistake of my life.
Presently I’m still in IT, but I’m enrolling with Mercer University next semester to complete their Pharmacy program. It’s been awhile, so I’ll have to retake courses, but in the long run this will better serve me and my partner.
Social Security and a longer career in IT is no longer guaranteed, but as a pharmacist I can “Count Pills” all the way up to 70 if necessary.
Have a good one and stay warm! π
Barbara Boxer has a petition to Urge Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter to hold hearings into the Bush’s illegal spying campaign before holding hearings.
It actually generates a Word document for you to sign and mail to Specter. It would be ice if got a few million of them. Hmmm. I shoulda done that for Marc.
What, $1 million a day fine isn’t enough? Now they’re talking about throwing the union leaders in jail?
Good Morning “liberal” haters:
An old welcome that was misinterpreted and later dropped from the morning salutation. Enough news yesterday to get the hatebuzz going strong e.g. Cheney breaking the tie on the budget cuts, extension of the patriot act, attempting to add the Alaska drilling to the military budget and the further distortion of the commander in chief provision of the constitution. In this morass of darkness comes the shining light of hope delivered by email yesterday.
Too bad they didn’t ask for names for the new morning program. I’d have suggested Morning Sedation.
Another day, another hatebuzz. A bad omen when the banana isn’t dancing.
On to the rest of the day.
:fire:
Isn’t that a Tom Waits song? “The banana has been dancing, not me, not me not me.”
Walking in LA
Started listening to “Fred” (channel 44 on XM) in place of AAR in the mornings, after BBC News. Just heard Missing Persons do the song “Walking in LA” and thought of Marc and his search for a car. After all, “nobody walks in LA . . .” show title?
Re the dancing banannas, the banana gif needs to have the number of cycles set to infinite, or some people need to get a life and exit your browsers every now and then .
Ask not for whom the banana dances, he dances for thee
Rethugs will stop at nothing to srew labor. The union workers in NYC should join the transit workers in the strike. Or perhaps throw Bloomturd and Pitacasshole in the east river
It sounds like the rethugs are going back to 19th century methods of breaking strikes. It’s too bad the union can’t turn this thing into a city wide general strike.
Most major news services are saying that the transit workers strike is over or at least suspended while the union and the MTA enter into binding arbitration.
Hey, I can’t really see straight so I’m just stopping by to say that I’m alive. thanks for the support.
Hey buddy what’s up! I just sent you an email because I saw you were browsing over at my site. Did everything go okay? Everybody has been worried and hoping for ya’ man!
Get some rest dude, I’m sure pj will have headline news about your return….Nice to have you back
good to hear from travis!
Yay! Travis is back among the conscious! :peace:
Good to have ya back Travis!!!
Hey Travis, glad to “hear” you’re OK. :ear:
I hope your banana will be up and dancing soon.
Welcome home Travis!
Rest and take care of yourself — we’ll be here waiting
and leave the light on for your…IN BLOG!
For those who missed the programming note during Riley’s show this morning, Laura Flanders will be on Friday’s show.
I’m still sticking with Riley at least for now. The transit strike is at least giving him fresh subject matter. But I miss the funny.:???:
Yo, Travis, glad to see your words on my screen. Hope you’re feeling better.
Meanwhile, here’s the Jim Earl recipe today.
Nutty, Seedy Granola
4 cups oats (long cooking)
2 cups wheat flakes (long cooking)
1/2 cup oat bran
1/2 cup wheat germ
1 cup sesame seeds
1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup pumpkin seeds
1/2 cup raw peanuts
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup currents
1 cup other dried fruit (apricots, apples, cranberries, etc.)
Any other interesting nut
Combine grains, nuts, bran, and wheat germ in a big bowl. Slowly heat honey, cinnamon, and oil until honey is thin. Pour over grain mix. Scoop into 2 large baking pans.
Heat in oven at 225 degrees for about 2 hours, stirring every 20 minutes until toasty. Add fruit and cool.
Hey Travis nice to see you back..
Thanks Kevin M for the info on Riley’s show tomorrow with Laura Flanders. I will make sure to tune in. James Wolcott gave a shout out to Mark Riley on his blog yesterday for his coverage of the strike.
Sorry, my link to James Wolcott screwed up. How about http://www.jameswolcott.com?
Hey Travis! Glad you made it outa there alive! Have you heard the Good News? No, not the news about Jesus and God loving you. Marc’s new show!:omg:
Before you guys jump on Bill Gates, remember he is not the first multi-millionaire to be in that position. Andrew Carnegie worked his ass off building his steel empire. He basically had a monopoly much as Gates has/had. Then he devoted his millions to preserving the arts and became an incredible philanthropist. I’m not excusing his business practices, I disagree with some of them, BUT at least he’s aware that as someone with great power he has responsiblity as well. He can affect change and he’s doing it. THink of the head ot Tyco-his “change” was buying an ice sculpture of David that peed vodka. As far as I’m concerned, Gates is a saint comparatively speaking to MOST corporate asses. I grew up in Seattle and know that his mother was a great philanthropist and I have NO doubt that her influence is what we’re seeing with Gates now. Good job Mary! You raised a smart son! π
I never had much time to join on the original blog on a regular basis, let alone keep up with my own. I just may stop here more often.
Yeah, it was a refreshing surprise to get Marc’s email yesterday, I think someone mentioned Extraordinary Rendition already, but its sick, so I like it. Of course, the editor at the rag I work for insisted on doing a story on Stern, so my mood went back to disgust quickly.
As far as the strike goes, I never had such an easy time as an NJ commuter. Just outside the Lincoln tunnel, most of the cars were stopped at checkpoints making sure they had 4 passengers; my bus just breezed by. Unfortunately, some of my holiday shopping took me to neighborhoods away from my office – what would be an easy hop on a subway required looooong walks. A lot of NYers will have lost weight this week.
Anyway, where can I talk about voting with our wallets – I have an interesting idea.

AAR Mornings = Morning Sedation!:nod::nod:
