Well, I don’t know about you guys, but we’ve got a big day planned here at my house. First, it’s off to the dump, to unload the recyclables and get rid of everything else that can’t be composted or thrown over the next-door neighbor’s fence. Then it’s off to return the empty beer bottles, which will then be followed with buying full beer bottles, after which I can get to work on emptying them again. I think that’s called the “Cycle of Life.”
good morning/evening everyone.
i was so proud of myself – keeping myself busy with new year’s preperations (in japan, we do our “spring cleaning” at the end of the year).
but today, the MS withdrawels are really kicking in.
Mornin pj and evening tom t! Nice to see ya’ around here. If you wanna little fix I just posted another bit from MS on my site The Era. It’s Marc the Shark Maron! As for cleaning, I’m right there with ya’ guys. I’ve been cleaning my house and doin’ loads of laundry! :holla: I wish I had some :bong: but I guess I’ll settle for :40: Okay, I’m gonna try to listen to Riley for a bit…
hey jason.
good luck with riley. as much as i love him, it just ain’t the same.
on a brighter note – i had at least a dozen japanese hipsters walk up to me on the street today and say “Hey, buddy. What’s up?” so things are looking up after all.
I know what you mean, it isn’t the same…. , I’ve been just listening to old Morning Seditions…..but I gotta drop by and see how Riley is doin’….
Mornin’, Seditionists!
Just checking in. I can’t (won’t) listen to Riley or any other AAR show these days. I figure that, unlike the Democrats, I have to stand for something, and I can’t support something I can’t support!
Of course, the downside is that my Seditionist brain is probably starting to atrophy from the lack of info. I’m hoping I’ll have the kishkas to resume my own diligent perusal of NON-mainstream media after the holidaze.
😐
Hi everyone – I’ve been absent for awhile. I can’t tell you how much I miss Morning Sedition. It is difficult to read this blog because I miss MS so much. I’ve also had some heavy shit going on at home, so I’m a little preoccupied with that stuff right now. I’ll keep checking for new info. Take care all.
Kim
Good morning all. VIGILANCE!!!
You’re not missing anything by not listening to riley- except if you like to watch (listen to) train-wrecks. He calls little goliath by his real name and sounds as if he’s the one who needs some pot.
You can do better by just read through buzzflash.com I think that’s as much as riley is putting into it. And the rest of the crew (brendan, chris) speak up about twice an hour to no effect- comic, engaging or otherwise. Even dg must be asking himself “what the fuck was I thinking?”:bong::bong::crap:
Hey all…I wish you all happy New Years! I’ve been my year-end cleaning down here in Shizuoka (Japan) too! So, akemashite omedetogozaimasu to all!
I’ve been channeling Maron all week…a friend is visiting from the States for 10 days…turns out he’s a conservative!!! Yikes! I’ve been making him listen to Morning Sedition clips to get even whenever he mentions O’ Reilly or the Drudge Report!
Nice graphics! VIGILANCE! :billcat::billcat::billcat::banana::nixon::fire:
Hello friends and fellow Wandering Seditionists.
The kindergarten and grade school students at my school I now greet classes with, “Hey Buddy, what’s up?” and they respond, “Hey Buddy, what’s up?”
Good Morning, Fellow BloggerIlluminati!
Miserable weather here in NJ.
Miserable show on AAR (I switched to a newschannel)
Mark Riley will not last long, I’m sorry for him and the timeslot.

Yeah, I tried, too. His show is already stillborn. From his attitude this morning, I don’t give a shit. I used to, but not after today. It’s the newschannel for me to start my day. I know the skew, but they’re not pretending at anything.
Bascomb, I’m not listening. Why do you say so?
Morning BASCOMBE. What do you call miserable weather?

Hey KingKong,
constant overcast, messy, drizzly, dank. It makes the bones cold. I’m a sunshiner, so I’ll get by.
“they’re not pretending at anything”
I dont’ think Brendan, Chris or Little Goliath give a shit either. They’re just watching riley suck the air out of the room.
As Gertrude Stein said about (I think) Omaha
“There’s no there, there”

I wake up in the morning to a clockRadio set to AAR. After I’ve had enough of Riley, I switch to the Local newsRadio station. If this is what Goldberg wants, then he definitely wants to Kill AAR.

It hurts me to the core, but it’s true.
The weather you described is what it is here and there is no central heating. If it’s 47 outside, it’s 47 in the bathroom.
Yikes!
Buried on page 26 of yesterday’s Newsday:
:fustrate:
Good Morning, I’m feeling the lack of MS doldrums myself. My little house used to shake with laughter every morning and now it is so still and quiet. I’ll try an old show again but the old news is, well, old news.:(
kahn- it makes you consider IQ 100 should be ‘lower’.
Oh, KK, that’s priceless about the kindergartners! Now teach them how to say “Christofascist zombie Brigade.”
God, I miss Morning Sedition. Riley is Riley, and that’s OK, but I have noticeably less energy without my Morning Sedition.
I had to resort to ordering four old Green Day CDs, just to get my anger on in the morning.
Hopefully after the holidays we’ll hear something from Our Leader, Mr. Maron.
You don’t have central heating in Taiwan? Or is it just your house? The only reason I have central heating is because my house is so small so any kind of unit will be central.:jesus::wink:
brilliant- it’s one way to get an internal laugh during the day. 😀
Hey everybody! Krista, Bascombe, Kong, Kahn! I signed your petition Krista, you should put the url back up everyday….:peace:
Krista-
Houses here are all poured cement and the only heat is from space heaters. (or bon fires)
What petition?
❓

I just paid my gas/elec bill. I use the heat from the steam to warm myself these days. I’m not kidding. I heat only selected parts of the house and everything’s off when no one is home.
yeah kong, that was pretty good. I’ll have to try that with my students as well…Hey buddy, what’s up! :rofl2:
Do you think we’re ever gonna hear anything about this new show?
There’s no central air here in Japan either…it sucks 😮
Hi everyone- I figure Ill save myself the depression and not bother with turning Riley on today. Its just too bad. I posted last night after podcasting the show in the car till late evening…I was so mad when I got home…I think that Riley is just going through the motions and that we are being asked to sit through a commercial for all the other AAR shows…its horrible!
Anyway, I always listen to a bit of NBC in the AM but the best news source is http://www.huffingtonpost.com
They link to all different sources and quite a few notables blog there all the time. Its definitley left leaning…and its thorough.
Last night I continued my MS downloads and I figured out how to get the shows onto my iPod!! Yay!!…and then I went about finding other podcasts to get so I have stuff to listen to lest Im trapped in the car with Jerry Springer or Riley and am not in the mood for old news.
Now iTunes is offering free video podcasts for the video iPods (which I dont have yet but my son is getting one from his grandfather for his birthday…how can I steal it??)
The Washington Post seems to have one etc…
I listen to Olberman’s podcast and now see that the nightly news will be podcast in its entirety…this is the new frontier of information.
But, back to the grind…I really miss MS…at this point, I just miss Marc Maron because Im sick of Riley already…
Too bad…
Melina
Krista started a petition to save progressive radio in Arizona….
Thank you electric blanket! ( and, of course :40: , now and again.)
Good Morning. This is embarrassing to admit, but I’m having a lot of trouble getting up in the morning. My mornings were perfectly timed to MS, right down to the Sierra Mist/Daily Show commercials.
Did anyone hear the spots that they’re airing as “The Best of Air America”? Its like a “Best of The Beatles” collection featuring Mr. Moonlight and Besame Mucho.
Wow, what a pithy Obama interview! Just Lincolnesque. And that time Randi told off that caller? Just great.
I’m, listening to an MS from April 05 and Marc is talking about the crazy politics going on at AAR. Listening to these in hindsight, maybe I’ll be able to gleen a little more about what happened or catch a comment that I maybe missed before.
Dude!:bong:
creattwo- not been tuning in. been listneg to old MS shows and making ‘best of’ CDs for friends.
:jesus:Morning!:nixon:
Nicki, glad you got your “double peace” cookie back.
I am unable to download a RealPlayer. Shit!:(:(
I guess its probably worth it to start writing letters again about how bad this is…I would love to get some letters to members of the board. My mother was saying that the board will oust Danny G if they feel like he is hurting the lineup and the numbers….Radio is so fickle and liberal radio has been decimated in NYC (and Im sure in the rest of the country too,) so she has been through this alot as a radio person…she has always listened all the time. I didnt get serious about talk radio till this Bush thing happened…has it been 5 years? I cant believe what I used to listen to here. I remember waiting and waiting for AAR to start and tuning in on the first moment of it for Al’s first show…it was so great! The lineup was so great and new and even with the glitches, it was all good.
what happened to the ‘peace’ symbol?
Gotta go and check Myspace for messages.
:nixon:Circulate.
I was on the snotgreensea last night and listening to Sammy the Stem Cell’s first appearance…. and Jim Earl has his site up and happening…
the peace IS gone, but the :yinyang: is still around.
Our local AAR affiliate has been purchased by a christian group who has no intention of keeping AAR or progressive programming. As of Jan 30, 2006 the Phoenix market will have not one single progressive radio station but will have 9 christian radio stations. This petition is to show that there is support for progressive radio in Arizona. That goes for you folks that drive through Arizona and will have nothing but gun toting neocons to listen to.
http://www.PetitionOnline.com/ANPRP/petition.html
Melina – Jimearl.com has a lot of the stuff up now. Thanks for your note.
krista- i hope you can keep a progressive voice on the radio.
I just wrote to DG about my displeasure with this week’s morning programming. I dont know why they wouldnt do a little blurb with each personality abotu what their favorite moments of the year were and then play the clips with Riley doing the news in between.
It seems like they threw this together and no one gives a damn.
Hell, when Brendan and Dan did the show when the guys were on vacation it was SO good…why not let those guys do the show during the vacation week?
This is not giving Riley any sort of push for his new show…its just using him as a stand in for vacationing Rachel and…um…writers?
:peace::peace::omg::eek:
KK–
Am I missing something? I’m not catching your drift. (Maybe it’s the time difference?!?)
DG wants to kill Riley  to get rid of the old morning. :fire:
I put up a Marc the Shark bit on my site today. Check it out….
Man, I’ve mainly been listening to evrything I downloaded from the snot green sea and Jim Earl(the psa’s are hilarious) and marchummel, sedition party…..I want more Maron though….most of it has been just Earl. I want the dream diaries
Krista- I was in Phoenix recently and the first thing I did in the rental car was to look for AAR. I was goign through all the stations and telling my 11 year old son Oh, thats Rush, Oh thats ORiley,…and then was so thrilled that they would have it there…I listened for the whole weekend. I cant imagine, after goign through the whole lineup, what it would be like without it.
What happened to equal time?…it seems wrong that there are places where the only information is completely one sided!!
Good luck with the petition.
Melina
Yeah Jason…we need the dream diaries…
Butch…
yeah, this :yinyang: one is my favorite. it makes me think of mark and marc. is it any wonder mark’s tanking without his yin?
okay, i confess – i like this one too :40:
(no central heating here either.)
Need to finish some fine art pieces. Times a flying:omg:
Circulate!:nixon:
Yeah…tom t, we still gotta go out for that liberal :40:
Let me know when you’re available….
I actually got a response from Sheldon Drobny thanking me for the message I sent detailing how each of Goldberg’s program changes caused me to listen to AAR less and less.
He actually asked why I didn’t like Springer. Here’s the bad news. He said Springer’s arbitrons were good, and he actually found the show refreshing. I told him I found the show dull and condescending and that the comedy bits were weak.
I suggested AAR try to get Mort Sahl, who at 78 is still way sharper than Springer, and a hell of a lot funnier than Franken. Drobny actually asked how he could contact Sahl. I forwarded the e-mail to Mark Thomas, the UK comic who recently had Mort Sahl on his BBC Radio 4 show.
Kahn- tha ‘averave’ person has a 100 IQ. Folks in SD have a hate against a doc that performs a legal medical procedure at the request of a woman (an abortion). They then give the SD doc a hard time for humanely doing his job. This is stupid.
Yet, the average person has an average IQ, 100,
100 just seems ‘low’.
I don’t know why anyone likes Springer. He was a hack when he was a mayor and he’s just an expoliter now. Does he still have that tv show?
So, now, Marc is talking about being yanked in LA and San Fransisco and Springer and the XM deal. He mentioned asking the new CEO about Springer replacing MS and the new ceo said there wasn’t anything he could do about it. What a load of crap. Is that what all radio execs are like? acting powerless about unpopular decisions even though they have all the power? The more I hear about Mr. Dannypants, the less I like. I’ve mostly withheld judgement because I don’t know what really goes on but if you look at people’s actions over time, I think you get a pretty accurate picture of who they really are and DG is showing himself to be completely out of touch. What an ASS!
GoodBye! (I’m probably the only one here.):sheep::nixon:
Update: I was dead wrong.
:jesus: Circulate!
Yak- Have you got that email address? I’d like to write to him too.
My Mom likes Springer too. Im not fond of the rant and call in shows…but my mom will listen to anything, really. I find Springer boring and flat. If he had a co-host he would be worlds better.
I also think that if hes serious about his message he should stop doing that horrid show. I know hes making money and its his right, but I think that its a bad thing to send out to the world…it lowers the common denominator by celebrating the bottom of the barrel for profit.
Melina
I remember asking on the old blog if Springer would replace Morning Sedition. Larsen answered that Springer liked MS, and furthermore did not consider his show a morning drive vehicle. The beef wasn’t between MS and Springer. It was MS and Goldbrick.:jesus:
Thanks Melina, equal time went out in the eighties. When I was listening to talk radio back then, most of the stations had both liberal and conservative hosts. The one I listened to had the conservatives in the morning and the liberals in the afternoon. So if you listened to the same station all day while you worked you got to hear both sides. But then Rush took over and many of the local conservative hosts started acting like Rush and the liberal ones disappeared. I listened to Rush for about 9 months and then stopped listening to talk radio until AAR got up and running.
Stay focussed, everyone!:40::omg:
hard to focus wtih a lot of :40:
King Kong- even here in the liberal east, right outside of NYC, we have a planned parenthood that only does abortions one day a week and on that day the protesters stand out there with pictures of the late term fetus’…and the private doctors that do them in the office are few and far between and very quiet. They usually only do them for people who are already patients of their practices and do them as D&Cs…and they charge over $1000…
So if you dont have $ you walk the gauntlet of crazy protesters.
That clinci is also one of the only places in this rather large city (Stamford) where women can get reduced price birth control pills and routine medical care.
Melina, its sheldon@planetdrobny.com. I got it off one of his recent Huffingtonpost.com blog entries. I’m guessing he finds Springer a refreshing change from Malloy and Randi’s rants.
I’m not fond of the rants either. I listen to enough yelling and screaming from my neighbors during tourist season. Sedition proved you can get the info out there and still be fun listening. Some people can be very dry, but still be great fun like Steven Wright or Bob & Ray. Springer just can’t pull it off. Drobny asked if guests would help make the show interesting. I told him having another voice in there would help break the monotony.
The fee dom here has been exposed. Thank you for informing me, but it causes me even more distress.
My birthday pary is out of hand. I’ve got to go. Bye
Is it your Birrthday? You bastard! Why didn’t you say anything? :fire:
Heeeeelp me decide!
This is a luxury problem to be sure, but I have a Gateway gift card and need to use it by tomorrow (for business purposes). I am having a heckuva time deciding whether to go straight laptop or convertible tablet pc, and I have configured and reconfigured the same specs over and over for the past three months. I am not computer illiterate, just paralyzed by my desire to make the “right choices” and not overly familiar with the different options. Unfortunately, their customer support has been less then informative, and now I’m pretty much up against the wall to make a decision. This will be my first mobile computer, and I just want to ensure I get something that will make my life easier, not harder.
I think part of the problem is that Gateway would not have been my first choice, but now it’s my only option (cuz of the gift card).
Any guidance will be most appreciated–I really trust youse guys!
Sorry Kahn, wish I could help out but I’m a mac user. What is a covertable tablet pc?
Happy Birthday, King Kong!
:menorah: (the only candles I could find!)
The party is here and tomorrow is a day off. yeah, it’s my birthday.
There’s another emoticon thats needed pj! A Birthday cake!
Happy Appy Birthday King Kong!:alc:
happy “be” day king kong.
Thanks kahn! The dancers have arrived. I may not get back here.. I’ll try to check. Thanks again.
Woooooooo Hoooooo! Party on Kong!!! :40:
:fire: :alc:
I like the idea of the Tablet…and agree that Gateway sucks…but free is free, so what are you gonna do?
I worry that the write on part of the screen will get scratched up over time much like my Palm screen. I love the write on screen but I cant see how that can last in such an expensive item. If they have a replacement plan I would go for that.
Also, does it run the microsoft tablet software?
In my endless quest for a good mini computer phone I have had good luck by googling the item name and going on the different tech blogs and reading the feedback by users who are complaing about this or that…there are endless sites out there that rate these things.
I am going to look it up in Wired right now and see what they say.On mobile computing in general…consider what youre doing. I LOVE my laptop but Im mostly in the house with it. If I was commuting on the train etc… I would get a much lighter one. As a wireless piece in my house where I need to be able to move around depending on kids and whats going on I love to have a good wireless and the biggest screen I can afford. Weight is not an issue for me.
I want one with a 17″ screen.
I have also been looking at the tablets but am not so sure that they are really all that unless you need to get things signed on the run….or you like to write by hand.
You need to look at blogs by people who are running them.
Jason–
A tablet PC functions as both a notebook and, basically, a notepad. The screen flips over for use as a writing surface; then you can take notes directly on it using a stylus, like a PDA (only without the prescribed penmanship).
Not sure I’m explaining this great. I test drove a colleague’s about a year ago and really loved it. In fact, as I tried to describe it, I went back to the Gateway site to see the demo and realized I really do want the tablet pc, despite its drawbacks: weight, for one thing; a lower-capacity hard drive (80 GB, max); and my fear–not based on anything I’ve heard or read–that the hinge won’t hold up. Now I just have to configure the other specs. So you see, Jason, you did help me!
(I am ambidextrous, fluent in both Mac and PC. I might have purchased an iBook if I had my druthers, but as I mentioned, I don’t have my druthers here!)
Thanks, Melina. I just saw your post (we were writing at the same time). I appreciate the input and will do some of the research you suggest!
here is something:
http://www.tabletpcs.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=51
Its not in Wired Test Magazine…hmmm…
Thanks for the info there Kahn. I see now. Good luck with your purchase….I’m gonna try to create an audio card for Kong with a stupid Happy Birthday song…..it’s my specialty….stupid birthday songs…

The Next Revolution in Mobile Computing- I Love This Tablet! , March 21, 2004
Jay Buffet (New York City /) Versatile, lightweight, portable, durable and powerful. I love this thing! I’ve had my Gateway tablet for about two months now and it’s already changed the way I use my computer for both business and fun. First of all: Some other reviewers had complaints about the latch breaking… mine is still working just fine! It’s easy to get carried away having fun with such a cool new technology, but you have to remember that this is NOT a toy! It’s a powerful hybrid computing system that gives you an edge over both laptop AND tablet PC users. If you screw around with it of course it’s going to break- just like any number of other delicate parts on your laptop. The latch is built well and works perfectly if you make sure not to force it. For the guy who broke his after 20 days… you should have gotten an extended warranty! I highly reccomend the extended warranty on this because, like any other advanced technology, you’re going to want to protect yourself from any repair or replacement costs you might face should something go wrong. I didnt get the extended warranty because this is a bad computer… I got the extended warranty because it’s the smart thing to do! I love my tablet because it’s smaller than a notebook but still has a full-size keyboard. Basically you get the best of both worlds with this one! I can now do all of my graphic design work by sitting the computer on a desk or my lap and writing directly on the screen… and then swivel the screen out so I have acces to the keyboard when I need to write an e-mail or chat online… this is brilliant!! I have this set of CDs I recently purchased that contains materials and resources I’m studying for an upcoming licensing exam. Before, I had to sit at my PC for hours a day reading this stuff. Now I just throw the CD in the tablet PC and I can recline or relax at ANY angle and I’m able to hold the tablet whichever way is comfortable. If you ever use your laptop to read, watch movies, or even just surf message boards then you’ll love the M275X. I can’t say enough good things about this computer. It’s made working when I travel so much easier. Tablets are so far superior to laptops in terms of ease of use and comfortable viewing/ operating options. And this tablet takes it a step further by including the ONLY thing that tablets were missing- a keyboard! Maybe the only downside is all the attention it attracts when I’m using it at Starbucks! Tablet PCs are the future!
CRIPES! So, I’m looking for Az message boards and one would think that the main newspaper would have other categories besides sports! But that’s IT. WTF is wrong with these people!
Something to keep in mind:
Gateway – Blue
$100,913 to Democrats
$23,500 to Republicans
Dell – Red
$40,818 to Democrats
$291,470 to Republicans
Apple – Very Blue
$78,250 to Democrats
$0 to Republicans
HP, IBM, Intel – Red.
Microsoft is red, too, but only 56% – 44%.
Used to be the the Democrats were red, and the Republicans were blue. I wonder when that changed?
BuyBlue.org
Also, particularly with laptops, a lot of these are assembled by the same factories in Korea and China, and just branded Dell or Gateway or whatever.
Yes…how many jobs are being offshored by these companies…
Dells are great computers but I switched to a completely American company. I’m not sure how much $ they give to which party but I knwo that everything is assembled and serviced here.
I still deal with Dell tech in India quite a bit from this ancient laptop, but they are much better…and I believe that they may offshore the jobs from India to China now…?
These companies should really be charged a huge tax for offshoring jobs and that money should be used to retrain the workers who are screwed here.
I just wrote a long email to Drobny….ugh…hope he reads it. Is he on the board? Is Stinton on the board?
Thanks for that info pj….makes me proud to be in a mac household….
by the way….another emoticon idea is the birthday cake! King Kong’s birthday is today….
Mort Sahl would be great, but the thing about radio is you have to be there every morning. I bet this requirement rules out about 99% of the talent out there. Maron showed an unbelievable amount of commitment to showing up every morning.
:menorah: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KK!!! :fire:
Hey guys, I’ve been trying to read the blog a bit this week. My pop has aol dial-up and it is the most agonizing experience. :fustrate: I found aol dsl at the same price for him but it won’t be installed until after I leave.
Kahn, the tablet sounds way cool!
Has anyone seen mjk about?
Ciao!
Missed reading the blog while here in Pittsburgh. Finally got a hold of my husband’s lap top to catch up on the blog. Everything’s making me so sad.
What’s this about?
“So, now, Marc is talking about being yanked in LA and San Fransisco and Springer and the XM deal. He mentioned asking the new CEO about Springer replacing MS and the new ceo said there wasn’t anything he could do about it.”
Was that from an old broadcast or new information?
Hearing about the sale of the AAR station to some Christian group is devastating, plus,
I need the liberal confessional.
I am typing on my husband’s Dell. The company he works for bought it for him.
Ugh. Being rushed off the computer.
Miss my new friends and my favorite radio person, Marc
😥
DrDance, I was refering to an old show(April 25,05) I was listening to when I talked about MS being yanked in LA and San Fran. To hear what happened to MS in hindsight is interesting. The comments here and there, that Marc made since Danny fuckpants took over. Riley kept quiet mostly but did have one thing to say when Marc asked him if it was politics as usual for the radio biz. And Riley said that it was his experience that when one job ended there was always another one around the corner. There is also a great Pendejo bit in that show also.:rofl2:
Well, there’s no turning back: I ordered myself a tablet pc. (Thanks, Melina, for posting that glowing review.) I decided not to worry about it and am completely relieved. (And knowing that Gateway’s 3:1 blue makes me feel even better.)
Thank you all for your support. Really, I was a little embarrassed about my dilemma, but you guys enabled me to FINALLY make a decision. Long live the blog!

Or should that be Hear, hear?
FYI-
Some of the oldest MS shows from April and May, 2004 (those that Bob had in his collection) are back up (for now) at the AAP MS Archive. Get ’em while they’re hot.
king kong, :cake: if the party is getting out of hand and the dancers have just shown up and you get tomorrow off, you know how to celebrate in style. happy birthday.
Thanks for the tip, PJ. I’m downloading now!

p.s. I looked it up, it’s “hear, hear.”
hoo boy, the nsa is sneaking into our computers. on slashdot today there’s this comment:
“The associated press is reporting that the NSA is putting cookies on visiting computers. Apparently it is unlawful for the government to put anything but a session cookie out unless it’s expressed in the site’s privacy policy.” From the article: “Don Weber, an NSA spokesman, said in a statement Wednesday that the cookie use resulted from a recent software upgrade. Normally, the site uses temporary, permissible cookies that are automatically deleted when users close their Web browsers, he said, but the software in use shipped with persistent cookies already on. … In a 2003 memo, the White House’s Office of Management and Budget prohibits federal agencies from using persistent cookies _ those that aren’t automatically deleted right away _ unless there is a ‘compelling need.’ A senior official must sign off on any such use, and an agency that uses them must disclose and detail their use in its privacy policy.”

Enjoy some :40: and :bong: along with your cake, but avoid the cookies. The NSA brought them. :omg:
I still can’t diss Riley. He’s still more lively than NPR or Pacifica. When I need to be up that early, he’ll be my background. I just won’t be setting my alarm for 6 AM anymore. Hail buyblue.org!
Hey, buddies, what’s up?
Here’s a little something to whip up for your New Years enjoyment. Me, I’ll be starving myself in preparation for our annual dim sum extravaganza at Chinatown.
:40:
Six-Layer Bombay Cheese Ball
Serves: 3-4
8 oz. cream cheese softened
4 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, grated
1/2 teaspoon curry powder
1/3 cup mango chutney (available in specialty shops)
2 tablespoons flaked coconut, unsweetened
1/4 cup toasted pecans or almonds
1 tablespoon finely chopped scallions
1-1/2 tablespoons currants or raisins
Combine cream cheese, cheddar and curry and beat by hand until smooth. Shape into a 5-1/2″ diameter disc, 1″ high. Chill until firm (45 minutes). Spread chutney on top. Sprinkle coconut, nuts, scallions and currents.
Hey, KK, which one is this?:cake::banana:
:doh:Back to the studio. Listen to Malloy on KPOJ delay. Crispin Miller will be on in about an hour–in Real Time.
:cake:Happy Day, KK.:sdavid::jesus:
Pass around those Tapes!:nixon:
Kevin M, you’ve got a point, we need to watch out for all those holiday cookies infiltrated by the nsa.

Archive Status
Thanks, PJ for the heads up on the changes at AAP. I diffed the directories (Unix/Linux types know what I mean) and there are 6 new shows that were not up as of December 6th (when stuff seems to have started coming off). I put the “new” shows in a zip archive so you don’t have to point and click on AAP if you don’t want to:
newadds_29dec.zip.
Newer versions of Windows should be able to download this OK, then double click on the file to unzip it.
There are now 141 shows from 2004 in the http://www.seditionparty.org archives, and all 248 from 2005.
report from the rainy northwest.
went to town yesterday with my husband. we had to wait for two mudslides to be cleared from the road (1/2 hour for the first one, ten minutes for the second one). then we couldn’t get to our post office box because the road was flooded from the north and the south plus a downed tree. we stopped and watched the river flood over the road at the south end. powerful stuff, a flooding river.
when we came home last night, our access road had a crack in it. my husband went to look at it this morning. it’s fallen about 2 feet. undriveable. he’s at our neighbors right now talking with them about how/when it might be fixed, because they share the access road with us. clearly anyone with a bulldozer or bobcat (those little bulldozers, it’s a favorite toy for guys out here), or a backhoe are in high demand right now.
we bought a tiny chainsaw in town yesterday. we’ve had too many trees fall and not be able to to anything about them. we made sure the chainsaw is light enough for me to use.
when i was at the gas station yesterday, every pickup that drove in was filling gas cans. i was right there with them filling two gas cans myself.
before the storm began we moved our Tercel to a parking spot 1-1/2 miles from our house. now we can do a shuttle to the road slump, which is a mile from our house, park our pickup there, and then walk to the Tercel (about 1/4 mile) and then drive to town. it won’t be the first time we’ve had to do such a thing. might have to do it until the roads dry up in april. won’t be the first time.
glad we got to get a bunch of groceries in town yesterday. electrical outages all over in town. we were so relieved to get back home!
our cat brandy was freaked out by the sounds of the storm. :billcat: the first storm ended yesterday. she’s still sleeping it off. the next big storm begins midnight tonight and will last through saturday evening. what a time.
the scary thing of this for us? it’s remembering the debris torrent we had 8 years ago that roared down the little creek beside our house and missed our house by 17 feet. that same little creek got so full 2 days ago, on tuesday night, that it started its “grinding” sound, which is what it sounds like when boulders roll along in it. it’s very unnerving to hear it because the moving boulders might be a prelude to something bigger coming along behind, like maybe a dislodged landslide barreling down 30 miles an hour to slam into our house.
we’ve got firewood and a wodehouse tape from the library and sometimes the satellite works for us to connect with this blog. life’s good.
wish we had morning sedition back on the air. listening to the old ms clips helps but knowing the show is gone is such a bummer.

British Torture Memos
The British government wants to prevent publication of memos writeen by former British Ambassador to Uzbekistan, detailing how information procured by torture in Uzbekistan is being used by the US and the UK. Murray says (can’t give a link, because it appears to be gone, now):
According to kos:
Note, I’ll post them as well, here.
It’s worth reading them all. Here are a couple of excerpts.
mike malloy’s interview with mark crispin miller is terrific, enraging, chilling.
thanks for the heads up, nicki rose.
pj, your link to the post doesn’t work.

pj, your link re the Uzbek torture memos reveals unbelievably difficult stuff. I hope Craig Murray and Michael Wood become household names and these memos get widely read.
Thank you for posting them.
I can’t read it all at once. I’ll print it out and read it in small doses. Trying to protect my mental health.
Anyone else out there who thinks about the victims of this torture in our names? Especially just before you go to sleep and when you wake up and are well-fed and safe in your bed and house? I don’t think I’m the only one.
It underlines the hypocrisy of the “we had to take out Saddam because he was a bad man” line of reasoning, while we’re calling the Uzbekistan government – one of the most brutal regimes on the planet – our friends. These are the folks who boil people to death.
Here’s part of what our own US State Department has to say:
NickiRose, dahling, I forwarded the invite to my friend Amy (we discussed her when we met in the park; she’s the one married to the CPS case worker) who is becoming a rather well-received artist. So we might show up. Be warned.
:peace: (I love icons. A little too much, I’m afraid.)
Here comes Paula with her 11 hour-old comments! I tried responding via my PDA, but it just loses the response in Cyberspace. 😡
Planned Parenthood in Philly has an interesting solution for limiting protesters. At least, they did. Don’t know if others do it, but it’s effective. They have contributors pledge a certain amount per protester over a two-month period. So if I pledge a quarter per head, they’ll count how many protesters are on the sidewalk each day. Say there’s 200 over October and November (which there wasn’t!), I have to give them $50. This limits the protesters, who of course don’t want PP to benefit from their work.
I escorted my daughter there in November, and as soon as the lone protester heard me tell her to turn in at the gate, he was on her like white on rice: “You don’t have to do this, surely there’s some other solution, let’s sit over here and talk about it.”
I lost it, BIG TIME. “You don’t even know why she’s here! PP offers much more than abortions! They offer health care to women without insurance!” and so on. But he continued, so I turned the air blue :rant1: with my sailor’s talk (and *not* “Aaarrrr! Me hearties!”) until I felt a little tug on my sleeve and I canned it and went in with her.
Effin’ bastard. She’s got effin’ cervical cancer, and you wanna treat her like shit? I *hate* those guys! 😡
I listened to Riley’s show of the 27th yesterday morning and it wasn’t too painful, so I listened today. It’s not unusual for the media to review the past year, and I guess it was easiest to have Riley run the bits. Kinda ease him into his new role, I guess.
But I need info & up-to-date news, so I tuned into Malloy on Randi’s show after listening to Ring of Fire and Laura Flanders’ last achived shows.
pjsauter, I remember this vividly. I don’t know when it changed, but I know for *years* Dems were red. Kinda confused me in 2000 (when I paid attention to these things once again) when the GOP got the red states.
To me, Springer is spoiled goods. Who the hell is going to listen to him after that godawful TV show, let alone *listen* to him?
Personally, I think that JS should be sandwiched inbetween Rush and some other right-wing wacko. His explanations are simplistic and his comedy is lame. It would bring balance, but he doesn’t belong on AAR. At least until recently, AAR was for more sophisticated, informed listeners. Put Springer’s Elementary Lessons in Liberalism on some other station where he could possibly reach some conservative.
Hey, so today I went into the museum to see about volunteering and the guy at the desk was reading Fooled Again by Marc Crispin Miller and I made a comment about it. He mentioned hearing him on Air AMerica and of course I had to find out if he was a Morning Sedition fan and tell him about Marc’s new show. So we got to talking and I told him about our local affiliate going off the air and my petition and then he mentioned that he was part of a group that wants to start a community radio station. (Yes, I mentioned KBOO) I suggested that he could start by doing podcastes. He hadn’t thought of that SO we exchanged info. Not that I know anything about recording or anything but it could be fun to learn. Anyone else have experience with creating a podcast show?
Almost forgot!
:cake: Happy Cappy Birthday, King Kong!
Thank you guys for signing my petition. It’s getting a slow start and I am having a terrible time finding any local blogs or message boards to post it at. I posted it on a Tempe Digital Town Hall blog and thew administrator removed it!:fustrate:
Here is the link to my petition to support (at least ONE) progressive radio station in Arizona. Please sign if there is the remotest possibility you will ever be in Arizona and have to put up with the lack of intelligent radio
http://www.PetitionOnline.com/ANPRP/petition.html
Any chance you can get in touch with some of the local colleges and universities (like maybe any media departments or college radio stations) to see if there are groups that can help spread the word?
I live, like, 2 blocks from ASU but I am still trying to think of other places online to post this. I’ll look on ASU’s site, maybe there is a message board there, but it is winter break so it will be pretty inactive til school starts again.
:omg:I better get my paintings done!:rofl2:
Anyone could do what Riley is doing. Few could do it more lamely. He is just making this nightmare worse. BTW, does anyone remember the rude remarks he and Wayne Gillman made while Maron was away? Something about how they would be glad to get the non-radio people out of the way? It wasn’t during Marc’s last vacation but the one before…the news of the show’s demise was already out….anyway … I don’t care for those two clowns.:fire:
Good Night :sheep::sheep::sheep:le,
I didn’t have much to add today but thought I should check in with the blog. I’m watching too much football, eating too much and exercising too little. I tried to reverse the trend today. If I make it to bed without faltering, today will be a success.
Much for which to be grateful, much for which to be pissed off and much work that needs to be done personally, professionally and politically.
