You know, I never thought much of Bill O’Reilly, but, in this 2001 article he wrote, I have to admit he was dead right:
The late-night program hosted by David Letterman is the toughest interview show on television.
That’s because Mr. Letterman is a smart guy who can spot a phony with telescopic accuracy….
:rofl2:
ha!!! i love that!! it was certainly true when he was on:rofl2:
pj- thanks for giving me my first smile of the day. It’s so satisfying when oliely is hung with his own words. I can’t watch Letterman much anymore because he’s getting too old and stale but he’s committed some real journalism with a bite:rant1: over the years.
recipe for airamerica morning
First- exile and\or sack the most brilliant comic ever to host a morning radio show and his staff of writers.
Two- Open with a generic reading of headlines
Three- Play a gobaldygook of audio clips which have nothing in common.
Four- Follow with generic sports patter that anyone can find on any sports-yak show anywhere.
Five- Frame some current news with little insight.
Six- Play some interview or other from some other AAR show
Seven- Play one mili-second of Ken Jones followed with no applause- let the joke die for lack of support.
Eight- Yak about NYC that has not much relevance beyond Manhattan
Nine- Frame somemore news to little effect
Ten- repeat same the next hour while also repeating some material from the first hour:fustrate:
Make AAR completely irrelevant:crap:
recipe submitted by danniegoldfart
That was pretty good research there pj! Ha! :rofl2:
I posted an early obscure Maron rant “Wang Dang Sweet Poon Tang” where Sue says she ate it with rice. I know it’s a culture issue but it’s still funny…
check it out hereThe Era
By the way, anyone seen Travis around? :bong:
haha! i remember when Sue said she ate it :rofl2:
awww….i spent all yesterday working on some stuff and listening to Rapture Watch…..oh the memories:(
umm…yeah, i’m worried about Travis. i haven’t heard anything from him in a while. maybe he’s still recovering.:alc:
About ‘The Era’
artnorton sez “check it out.
Eclectic but very interesting and spot-on for daily raising of political IQ. Much in the spirit of Rachel Maddow”:nod:
Yeah Quiet girl it’s a funny one. I’m still trying to edit all of them. I think in one form or the other we’ll all get together and make a box set….or maybe several.
Seditionists Unite!! :fire:
thanks atnorton….:peace:
Morning, evening.
No movement over at The Sedition Edition, Travis’s blog.
Sue 🙄 .
Kong! How are ya’? Are you listening to Riley? I am. Still wish it was MS.
Kong did you see the Letterman and O’Reilly interview?
http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/
Jason- Riley’s on the stream. Thanks for the repost. I saw it as I was hitting the hay last night. Where did you get 20G! of MS material.
Kong I downloaded everything from all the links including what was left on the AAR place. Not quite 20gb. I’ll put it up on my public folder sometime soon. I’ll have to do it in bits. Meanwhile, I’ll just be editing the bits…
:fire:
So the Strokes album is “one of the best of the new year?” Wow, talk about damning with faint praise. IT MIGHT BE THE BEST ALBUM OF THIS WEEK!
Thanks, Goldbrick, for saddling Riley with such fucking fascinating guests.
Hey quietgirl, are we invited to your birthday party in March? :40:
Yeah and “Mariah Carey is edgy?” Whatever!
I like The Strokes by the way….need more time to see where they go though…:40:
“edgy’ or ‘jittery’?
I don’t know about blogging on the new show. Everybody seems really happy about Rachel’s new spot. What about Maron? What? Did I just hear a :fire: or maybe we just forgot, go on…:rant1:”pretty good!” 🙁
I think jittery! I liked Maria when I knew NOTHING about music. Things change….
Do the ‘music breaks’ on Riley and ‘all comercial breaks’ on Rachel mean anything?
Mariah Carey this generation’s U2?!?!?!? WTF?!?!?! Proof that Rolling Stone has no more relevance.
Yeah Kong the music on the streams suck BIGtime! I’d rather listen to the ads….:rant1:
When, in the 1970’s, did Rolling Stone lose it?
Irritating muzak type music was playing last on The Majority Report in the absence of most ads. Sam mentioned how much he hated it and said they (i guess the fabulous mgnt) had deleted NY type ads or something like that on the stream. I never thought I would prefer AAR ads to this music but I do.
Good Morning boat people(I love that! 😀 ) I gotta go see if I got Maron mail! I wonder if I’ll be able to make one of those shows in LA.
No fake i.d. Quietgirl? It must be harder to make a fake id these days than when I was a young ‘un. Although, you didn’t need one to get into a gay bar in my day. They were pretty easy to infiltrate.
You nailed that recipe, artnorton. Sheesh. I showed it to my husband and we agreed we weren’t missing much by not tuning in.
—
PJ, you’re probably right about why Brian from Everett doesn’t blog; the same thought had occurred to me. I wonder if he has any idea how many people he touched with his appearances on the show!
—
Did anybody else see this post about more Bush recess appointments on Daily Kos?
:fustrate:
Ugh! Look at how this story characterizes the Letterman/O’Lielly exchange. I usually can’t get past the headlines with newsmax but I was curious as to how they would spin it.
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2006/1/4/100937.shtml?s=et
“It didn’t take long for fireworks to erupt last night when Fox News Channel’s Bill O’Reilly guested on David Letterman’s “CBS Late Show,” with the late night host finally admitting he wasn’t “smart enough” to engage in a debate over the Iraq war.”
Barry Lank is on Rachel!
Morning.:jesus:
Any opinions of Harry Shearer’s radio show out there? He does it weekly for an hour from LA. I have listened to it regularly for at least the last 12 years and I have a feeling this might be what’s in store for Maron.
Just to show how people’s tastes vary, I find the radio show hilarious, but I won’t go out of my way to watch The Simpson’s. Other people I know go bonkers over The Simpson’s or Spinal Tap but shrug when I tell them about Shearer’s show.

What is the name of Sharon’s party? kadima? Were any of you old time activists familiar with Kadima/New Jewish Agenda? Very progressive. Too bad Sharon’s Kadima is not progressive.:jesus::peace::sdavid:
I guess everybody is out of here.
:nixon: Circulate!:peace:
Townshend has been talking about his hearing going since the 1970s. I once heard a band play the intro of Baba O’Riley with a flute.:omg: It did not cut the mustard.:???:
Kent is not nearly as funny as Lawton is.
:barf: recess appointments!:-x
I’m outta here!:billcat::sdavid:
Nicki – Pete HAS been saying it for years. The Who concerts I went to in the late 70s and early 80s left my ears ringing (proudly) for days.
After listening to the full Air America Mornings, I’m still activated, but hollow. Can someone else express it better? I’ve been reduced to a grade school vocabulary.:?:
If the fundies do listen to Springer and get somewhat illuminated about the truth, then there is some purpose having Springer on the air, otherwise its just 3 hours of wasted radio waves .
For me, AAM is like kissing through a screen door.
So, do you suppose they ever told Sue what poontang is? When “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me” came to town, I didn’t get a chance to ask her.
On an interesting note, a google search for poon tang brings up this picture (it’s clean, don’t worry), of Sweet Tang Su (which is perhaps her new nickname).
Springer is very muddle-headed on the Middle east.:omg:
UN242. What does that state, Springer. Two state solution? What does that mean? Settlements? They are illegal. Why is there no discussion on the illegal settlements? Dont’ be a moron, Springer.
That’s great PJ! :rofl2: I think Sue was extremely embarrassed by that and I think if you brought it up to her she wouldn’t be such a good sport.
Petition is over 600 now. I thought it would die after the announcement on Tuesday but maybe not. Still a bunch of friggin’ spammers though.:rant1:
http://www.PetitionOnline.com/ANPRP/petition.html
Mark CrispinMiller is on Charles Goyette! Now!
Shit! Copied the wrong link, here it is

Sue was not aware of that idiom. She wasn’t familiar with the term. Maron was surprised that she did not know the meaning. He left it. No big deal. I like Sue. The chemistry was just not quite there.:fire:
Personally, I’d never heard of Marc Maron (or Riley) before AAR. I knew Sue from NPR, and thought Morning Sedition was a great title, and I thought Sue would be great. I think she got irritated at being on a “boy’s” show, which was exacerbated by the fact that she just didn’t get the jokes (something lost in the translation, I guess), or what Marc was trying to do. I think Sue was expecting to more or less do an “NPR” kinda show (Goldberg would have loved it), and Marc wanted to take the show in a totally new – creative – direction. As he said on one of (if not the) last shows, Sue was off when Reagan died, and he and Mark just saw an opportunity to take things in a new direction.
It wasn’t long before Sue was off to do “field” reports, and Morning Sedition was on its way to becoming the best show on radio.
Well, nominations are open for the 2006 Bloggies. I don’t see a category for best weblog of a cancelled radio show, unfortunately, but if you have any favorites head over there and nominate them.
Fiftyith!
Hi Boat People!
pj, can we add a new category? Because you’re blog is surely the tops.
Whaaaaa, I miss Lawton and I just know he needs friends. He was so pitifully friendless except for Marc.
Ok, I though 2006 might have gotten rid of that Franken ditto head. I listened to him today and dislike him as much as I did when I started muting him 6 months ago.:billcat:
GYPSY, is that cheese ball recipe you posted over on Jim Earl’s blog yummy? It looks it.
I am alone in this. The more I dig into the Abramoff scandal, the more I’m concerned that it touches the Dems along with the ReThuglicans.
I thought this was mainly a righty scandal, but it could cut all the way across.
I do believe that it does not matter who is involved, they should pay the price.
Thoughts?
toshiba4064, no you’re not alone. I’ve been hearing about it all along. The Dems have already started investigating how much house-cleaning they’re going to have to do. Abramoff is more of a Repig problem than a Dem, but the Dems have had their own problems. Just not as…um…dramatic as this one.
Farmerkat, it was good. It was sweet, but the chutney I was using was sweet. So be sure to use a chutney you like.
Jon Stewart is going to host the Oscars and I’m disappointed that we won’t get to hear Marc’s take on it. Poor Marc. All this good stuff for him to comment on and no place to comment on it. Someone give that man a blog, at least! Surely he’s caught up on his sleep and other – um – generally horizontal activities. And surely the cat war is settled one way or another.
Well, back to work. This damn salt mine!
Speaking of miners….My brother in law the ex-miner is getting ready to punch out a reporter. They need to get the fuck outta West Virginia and leave those poor people alone!
Good summary on the Sue Ellicott connection. Yes, she did not get the jokes. (I liked her accent.) One question: Why was she off when Reagan died? Not in Mourning, I hope.:fire::sheep:
Pat Robertson, dangerously stupid, or just fucking nuts?.
Do you really think God gives a shit where the lines are drawn on a map??
Good stuff on CounterPunch today. Sharon, Hillary, Palestinians, Ethnic Cleansing in New Orleans’s 9th Ward. Here is an antiwar article excerpt written by a professor from my alma mater:
January 5, 2006
How Some Arguments Against the War Might be Twisted to Prolong It
New Challenges for the Antiwar Movement
By ZOLTAN GROSSMAN
The U.S. Occupation of Iraq has entered its fourth calendar year. As criticism of the Iraq War intensifies across the political spectrum, its supporters are deploying new arguments (or repackaged old arguments), in order to defend the war. In December, President Bush delivered a series of speeches to build public support for the Occupation. His speeches were such a failure that they could easily be repackaged and released as a DVD under the title “How to Lose a War in 10 Days.”
Yet even some of the Democratic and Republican critics of Bush’s policy are not advocating an end to the war, but rather proposing a change in the war’s form, or a shift in its focus. Instead of ending the violence, some of their arguments could be used to justify continuing (or even intensifying) violence against Iraqis. Some of the arguments they are making against Bush’s Iraq policy can easily be manipulated or twisted by his Administration to prolong the war.
Specifically, the arguments that U.S. troops should be redeployed to neighboring countries, and that the chaos in Iraq could lead to a civil war or Shi’ite theocratic rule, are now being reinterpreted to justify rather than end the war. In this shifting political environment, the peace movement should be extremely cautious that its original arguments against the war do not become a justification of a new phase of the war, or even fodder for a new war. . .

2 Large tomatoes, peeled and Coarsely chopped
3 Garlic cloves,finely chopped
2 T Finely chopped fresh ginger
1 Heaping teaspoon turmeric
3 T Safflower or canola oil
1 t Garam masala
2 White or green cardamon pods Crushed, or 1 teaspoon ground Cardamon
1/2 t Ground coriander
1/2 t Ground cumin
1/2 t Cayenne pepper
1 1.5″ cinnamon stick
3/4 t Salt
Koftas
2 Green serrano chiles, seeded and minced
1 Large spanish onion, peeled and finely chopped
1/2 c Whole blanched almonds (2oz.) finely chopped
1 t Salt
1/4 c Coarsely grated carrot
1/2 t Ground cumin
1 Small zucchini, peeled and sliced crosswise 1/2″ thick
1 c Vegetable oil, for deep fat Frying
3/4 lb Pumpkin or butternut squash
Peeled, seeded, 3/4″ chunks
3/4 c Chickpea flour (besan)
In a food processor, puree the onion and ginger until smooth, stopping to scrape the bowl.
Heat the oil in a large nonreactive saucepan. Add the onion puree, cardamon and cinnamon and cook over high heat, stirring constantly, until most of the moisture has evaporated, about 5 minutes.
Add the tomatoes and cook, stirring for 5 minutes. Add the turmeric, garam masala, cumin, cayenne and coriander and cook for 2 minutes.
Pour in 2 cups of hot water, stir in the salt and simmer over low heat until the gravy thickens, about 25 minutes. (The recipe can be prepared to this point up to 2 days ahead; refrigerate. To reheat, bring to a simmer over low heat.)
To serve, pour gravy into a deep platter or shallow serving bowl and arrange Koftas on top
Koftas:
Place the chiles, almonds and carrot in a nonreactive bowl.
Place the zucchini slices in a small strainer or sieve. Submerge the strainer in a small saucepan of boiling water and cook until the zucchini is just tender,1 to 2 minutes. Remove the strainer, reserving the saucepan of water. Rinse the zucchini under cold, running water. Transfer the zucchini to a square of cheesecloth, pull up the corners and gently but firmly squeeze out the excess liquid.
Return the saucepan of water to a boil, add the pumpkin chunks and cook until just tender, about 5 minutes. Drain the pumpkin thoroughly, transfer to a square of cheesecloth and squeeze it gently in the same manner as the zucchini.
In a food processor, puree the zucchini, pumpkin and onion for 30 seconds. Scrape the puree into the mixture of chiles, almonds and carrot. Season with salt and cumin, add 1/2 cup of the chickpea flour and mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon. Cover and refrigerate the kofta batter for at least 1 hour or overnight.
Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup chickpea flour on a large platter. With lightly floured hands, form the kofta batter into 1-inch balls. Place the kofta balls on the platter and gently roll them to coat evenly with the chickpea flour.
In a wok, heat the oil until it reaches 350 degrees on a deep-fat thermometer. In batches of 4, fry the koftas, stirring gently, until browned all over,1 to 2 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the balls to paper towels to drain.(The Koftas can be made up to 1 day ahead; cover and refrigerate. Rewarm on a baking sheet in a 400 degree oven for about 5 minutes, until hot.)
Oh those fucking rapture warriors will lead to a huge fucking war in the region. What i don’t get is that a large minority of Palestinians are Christian. No. I forgot. The final war between Gog and Magog must occur in order to usher in the 1000 year rule of Jesus. I am slipping. I am a backslider.:sheep::rofl2::sheep::cres::sdavid::jesus::peace:
The movement must shift to ending apartheid in Israel and the Occupied territories. Israel and its US allies (Hillary, etal.) refuse to return the land–as demanded by international law. And, barring a miracle, nothing can compel the powers that be to obey the law on this issue. So, what is to be done with the millions of Palestinians who have lived on the land for thousands of years?
1. Removal. Ethnic cleansing.
2. Second class subjects. Apartheid.
3. Citizenship. Bi-National state.
You can keep the settlements; just allow equal access between the citizens of the nation.:sdavid::jesus::cres:
:sheep::sheep::sheep::sheep: Neocons, AIPAC, and Rapture Warriors: An alliance made in Hell!:omg:
I don’t know Nicki, seems to me the repugs would twist anything you say. It’s what they do. I’m getting tired of worrying about it.
So, I think I need to have a homepage and blog now. People that have signed the petition are emailing me asking what else they can do to support KXXT. They are asking ME as if I’m an authority!:omg:
Bush lost by 3 points.
If only that was the headline on November 3rd 2004.
Now that college football season is over, I look forward to Maron season. When does it start?

What’s with this — all my favorite comedians, Steve Martin, David Letterman, and now Richard Lewis are all getting political in an off-election year.
Will Danny Goldberg, the marketing genius behind “Who Let the Dogs Out?”, allow this trend to pass him by?
Solution, Krista: Stick your head into the lion’s mouth.
Political action helps clarify things.:mad::omg::fire:
