Well, vacation’s over. Wednesdays are going to be busy for me, with a class in the morning, and another in the evening. Good thing I don’t have another one until Monday. Worse, my laptop is kaput and I won’t be able to check in on the news – or the blog – until I get back home again.
So, is it too early to start planning for the 1st annual Morning Seditionists summer meetup?
haha!! first fool!!
hello

Who you callin’ a foo’? I Pity da foo’.–In the words of Mr. T.
I don’t know. It’s never happened to me. It sounds like you fixed it though.
I was just reminiscing about the last show. I even started to read the old blog. Man…
Am I not cool anymore? Is that what’s going on? Damn-it. This always happens.
Now it says thee are 5 users on line.. are we reproducing ??
Morning Travis….
Hey, Fred. I’m cool, I’m cool!

From: Rep. Louise M. Slaughter

Subject: Watch C-SPAN and PBS tomorrow (1/18)
I wanted to let you know about two important events in Washington tomorrow which will highlight the growing Republican Culture of Corruption and how Democrats are fighting for honest leadership and open government.
Tomorrow afternoon Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senator Barak Obama, and I will be speaking at a major event in Washington to unveil the Democrats’ Honest Leadership and Open Government Act. The entire Congressional Democratic Delegation will be joining us in the Great Hall of the Library of Congress, where we will spotlight the Republican “pay for play” politics that put special interests ahead of the priorities of the American people. The event is scheduled to start around 2:00 pm EST, and will be broadcast live on C-SPAN.
After participating in the Library of Congress event tomorrow afternoon, I will be appearing on PBS’s News Hour with Jim Lehrer tomorrow night to further discuss the Democrats’ comprehensive ethics reform package. I will also talk about the House Republicans’ assault on the existing ethics process in the People’s House.
Speaking of which, I distributed the following legislative backgrounder on how the ethics process in the House of Representative has imploded under the Republican Leadership:
http://www.votelouise.com/blog/319/republican-commitmen…
So, please watch CSPAN tomorrow afternoon around 2:00 pm EST, and then watch News Hour with Jim Lehrer on PBS tomorrow night. And, then come back to my website, and let me know what you think by posting your comments here:
http://www.votelouise.com/blog
Thank you again for all you do to restore faith in our democracy.
In Solidarity,
Rep. Louise M. Slaughter
We only need 41 votes to filibuster. We can get 41 votes.
We HAVE Senators who will filibuster if they know they have the 41 votes.
Why we CAN win this fight:
> Committee vote delayed until 1/24 – after the Repubs had been promised a vote by 1/20.
> Senate Dems are sending Alito more questions and awaiting written response.
> Kennedy’s staff said that all options are on the table.
> Reid’s staff said today that he is trying to see if he has the votes to filibuster.
The Senators who might filibuster NEED OUR SUPPORT – to pressure moderate Dems and Repubs – ALL of them.
Remind them that history says that, in past, when Presidents had to make a 3rd nomination to SCOTUS the person was moderate! What will happen if the Alito nomination is blocked? History has an answer —
The Senators need to know that we are behind them if the Rethugs go nuclear: We will help them raise a stink about how the Rethugs are changing the rules in the middle of the game and link this behavior to all their other unethical behavior – it is part of the GOP culture of corruption. Keep calling them cheaters till they relent. (Hat tip to MomCat who called Senate Dems today and found they were interested to hear about this!)

Now I am getting the message “Device brain did not start properly please re boot”
YYYYYAAAAAWWWWWNNNNNN :yawn::shock::tongue:
Fine man! It’s cool. I see it. It’s as clear as an azure sky on a cold summers’ day. It’s as clear as an unmuddied lake, man. It’s as…..um..I don’t even know what I’m talking about . Somebody start talkin’ some real sense, instead of this stuff about nothin’. Come on, man. I know you’re there. I think:?:
Okay, I admit it. I’ve seen too much of that seventies show.
This is making me crazy. I have to go calm down.
Morning, Seditionists!
Travis, funny you should mention Mr. T. I have a Mr. T electronic device (with 6–count ’em–Mr. T sayings), that I bought for a friend I don’t see very often. It was that device I was looking for when I first decided to play reverse crankyankers with bothersome telephone calls. When I couldn’t locate it quickly, I went for the electronic whoopie cushion, which (because it so convulsed me with laughter) has instead become the device of choice in discouraging such calls.
I promise I’ll stop talking about that now!
Great piece by Mark Shields, War Demands Equality of Sacrifice.
Here’s a taste:
Go, Mark!
Good morning :sheep::sheep::sheep:le!
Supreme Court upholds Oregon decision 6-3!!! :peace:
My life, my decision. So there.
No, PJ, it is not too early, and I would love to help! (I am not only a diehard Seditionist, I also have a certificate in meeting and event management!)
That sounds like the ads for Hair Club for Men: “I’m not just the president, I’m also a member!”
Am I the only one here?
Mornin’ all. Just a quick hello before I head out the door. It’s been a while since I had to get up and get out this early. Waking up at six past the hour just aint the same as it used to be.
Between lurkers and posters, we should hit 15,000 visitors to the blog sometime today. Not bad for a show that’s been cancelled for a month.
Have a good one.
Anytime Riley wants to bash Journey, I’m fine with it.
“Nah nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah NAH nah.” Puuuuullllease. :barf:
OK, CK. You’re elected. I think I’ll put a page up for ideas/dates/locations and general brainstorming later on this week.
Excellent, PJ–thanks!
We’ll miss you checking in today.
Thanks Fred, I signed the petition. Also thanks for posting the letter from Rep. Slaughter.
Hey, NickiRose, if you want a VHS of Marc’s special, let me know. I have it on my DVR box and would be happy to spin a tape. Send me an e-mail if you want it: brilliantatbreakfast – at – gmail – dot – com.

good morning fellow blog sibs.
travis, you mentioned yesterday morning about brave new world and had that link to a soma-type drug and it got me to thinking about shakespeare’s brave new world which was full of hope and the one which huxley described which has come to pass. we’ve got to turn it around somehow.

G’morning everyone-
CK I also have a Mr T in your pocket that I carry round with me. It cuts down on having to talk to obnoxious people. I like the “shut up fool!!” button.
Tho lately all I get is people gushing over how much they lik emy button…it is a picture of Bush’s face and says LIAR over it. People used to be so afraid to say anything and now they are all over the button and bumper stickers.
What I hate the most is that this administration made people feel like they couldnt speak up or fear getting called unpatriotic!
Peace is Patriotic!! Disent is Patriotic!! Checks and balances are patriotic!!
Damn…worked up already…

Ben from Nebraska :omg:
ncblue, thx for that site you linked re abramoff. but you ought to include a warning. i paged down and saw the pic of roy blunt and practically jumped out of my chair. man that guy’s face is SCARY. his “smile” is evil and i don’t even believe in evil. 👿
who needs caffeine if you can get a peek of roy blunt’s face first thing in the morning. talk about adrenaline. horror movie directors ought to use that guy’s face as a template.
Kristapea, try this link:
http://www.thinkprogress.org/abramoff
Abramoff and Scanlon have entered guilty pleas. I can’t remember the first partner in that company to plead guilty last fall. What’s his name? Anyone remember?
eek i just saw a pic of pombo on the thinkprogress website. his pic is as bad as blunt’s!
it’s telling that blunt and pombo offer these pics to the media and have no idea how scary they look. they look like liars and cheats! straight out of hollywood casting.
Judge Alito’s rulings are clearly undemocratic and not what our founding fathers’ envisioned for this country. You are complicit in changing the course of this nation. Judge Alito consistently is against the rights of individuals. The courts are the last stop for individuals in this great country. Justice Bryer spoke eloquently of this during his confirmation hearings and I urge you to read his testimony. The tyranny of a corrupt president was certainly an issue when our nation began. This basic tenet is lost on Judge Alito. This nominee is not just someone who has some different views than Democrats; this is about Alito being fundamentally opposed to principles upon which our Republic was founded.
I urge you to vote no on Judge Alito.
Here’s something to think about….
Maybe the ultimate answer for the U.S. is to finally realize that the concept of a President with Executive powers and with a cabinet of unelected hand-picked minions is outdated.
In 1776 it was understandable that the drafters of the U.S. Constitution would create their own King – because that was the only model they had.
In fact the Parliamentary system (which would be easily implemented from the Senate and the House of Representatives) would completely remove the risk (that is now totally exposed and effectively irreversible) of someone making a power grab or doing whatever they want before they get caught or prosecuted. Frankly the risks of an Exceutive President are too much for American democracy now.
It’s probably time for a “figurehead Presidency” and the defacto control taken over by an “assembly” of elected officials rather than a single person with what is defacto absolute power.
Hear! Hear!, farmerkat
the pic of hastert on the thinkprogress site looks exactly like this :jerk:
:rofl2:
it is SO windy today and the power keeps going off and on…schoolbus was late because of a downed tree…but its hot and rainy outside…now comes freezing torrential rain.
Is something wrong with the world? This crazy weather is really freaking me out. Global warming?
I hate wind.
My grandfather got all of these seedling trees back in the 40’s from some reforestation project…but being a kid from Bronxville he planted them very close to eachother so now all I do all summer is take trees down. He put in over 100 right around the house and too close to eachother. Good thing the tree guy is a friend of mine….;-)
hope those trees are deep rooted ones, Melina!

Kristapea posted Jim Earl (:priest:) email for me last night. I missed it a few days ago, and I was freaking out last night because a month had past since MS died and I needed info about Maron. That’s it!
:fire:
I got a thankyou note for a gift I sent Jim and he also told me about the show and Brendan being out there helping with it.
Ooooohhh, I see, thanks sgarcia! :peace:
Yes, maybe the dog brought them back together!
I felt bad for Kris when MS ended. He clearly had affection for Marc and Marc for him. Marc seemed like sort of a neat big brother for him.
Got it Krista! :fire:
That would be perfect NCBlue! Plus I would have a place to stay because I have a good friend there. Plus :40::alc:
Seriously folks check out this guy’s articles. He’s a vietnam vet posting op-eds on my little blog because his local papers in Arkansas won’t print them. I wrote to Truthout my morning to see if they would post them…

Yeah isi, Danny Goldberg is like an overzealous child protective service that splits up a slightly dysfunctional but loving family.
isi- where is the kris lopresto blog?
Good Bye!
The Raleigh N&O didn’t print my letter, so they get the latest update today. It has grown, so I must share again. Jason, you might want to replace the version you have up on your blog with this one:
Apparently the Stock Market in Japan dropped like a rock yesterday pm.. so much so they closed early because their computers could not handle the volume. For you who live there what happened ??
Maybe “the end” is near…..
Melina, if you got to http://www.rachelmaddowshow.com today there is a picture of president bush and under the picture is a link to Kris’ blog.
NCBlue: Will do :fire:?
NCBlue: Done!
Morning everyone. So I’m listening to Air America Mornings right now and it’s making me more and more desperate for Marc’s new show. Anyone have any info on when that is going to happen?
And now it looks like AAR’s new pay-for-podcasts program in in place. There’s nothing on that network I’d be willing to pay for now.
speaking of k-lo’s blog, i found this from the other day:
I’ve been told by the powers that are above me that I have to choose more popular songs for Air America Mornings but I always have a hard time doing this.
smells like danny g. all over, no?
the tracks kris chose/chooses for MS/rachel’s show are the most interesting on AAR. figures they’d want to do away with them.
You know, I think Rachel and Kent are starting to groove. I knew they would. I don’t get up early enough for Riley.
No, It doesn’t replace The Funny and I would love to hear Marc in the Morning again. Still pretty angry and sad about that but, one must move on.:-(
The end times are near….
my mother just called me to report that AAR Mornings suck! She is a total talk radio person and knows every show and station…she says that Mark Riley is so bad that you just change the channel. There is so much choice. When Rachel was on at 5 it was a lead in that grabbed and held the listener….now its just annoying.
Im sure the numbers will play this out and I hope that the board fires Goldf**k!
and I want to see Scott McClennan on a spit!
On MSNBC they are showing David Gregory’s most recent tiff with him….its so crazy how this white house operates…
The mediocritization of Air America is well under way. Hopefully the gems will shine through the crap.
Thanks, Jason.
I think its time I got started with my studying stuff. Gotta learn good if I wanta get employed some time soon. Later all…
I just have no desire to tune in to the mornings on AAR. Although I am glad I found K-Lo’s blog. My listening habits have shifted to the evening hours. I’m getting prepared for Marc’s new show. He is getting a new show isn’t he? 😀
god damn it i fucking want to slit springers fucking throat sometimes fucking william hung :growl: if that shit was funny i would let it go but no its fucking not and like he just fucking said he has no talent none at fucking all :rant1:
Try Charles Goyette. He takes on repugs and knocks ’em flat with reason and logic. http://www.1010kxxt.com/home.php
I’ll be interested to hear what Senators Reid and Leahy have to say after their scheduled meeting at noon today to discuss their Alito strategy.
Right now he’s taking on the idea of the “conservative” repug actually being a conservative strict constructionists of the Constitution.NOT
Apparently the Stock Market in Japan dropped like a rock yesterday pm…For you who live there what happened ??
Comment by fred — January 18, 2006 @ 8:48 am
can’t help you with that one fred. i just asked my wife about it, but listening to her explain it to me in japanese was kinda like listening to cardinal milfington speaking in tongues.
Thanks, Krista. Is this the radio station that was bought out by the Christian Right?
You know whats rich? On the AAR page they have “comedy” clips….as if any of that crap is funny…why not put up the oy oy oy show…damn.
Isi, this program that PJ was talking about sounds good…your computer saves the streams so you dont have to pay for podcasts.
What idiots they are to put that podcasting pay thing in place without any word about how to work it in beta. Ive had to unsubscribe from the streams to get the thing to stop crashing my rather new and powerful computer. Just makes me mad….
Its Replay Radio
Im gonna try it. I think that any show that you can stream you can save in your computer.
Seems to offer may formats including MP3 and WAV so its just a hop skip and jump to CD or MP3 player from there…
forget paying…
I save the morning shows in my XM player nayway but I prefer to have everything in my ipod.
ooooohhh you people are stealing shame shame shame im telling tim
:bow::sammy:
for anyone using a mac, there’s a cheaper option for saving streams. it’s called wiretap pro. (i know, they’ve got to change the name.) it’s only $19.00. i’ve been using the freeware version for over a year now and i really love it.
I wanted to mention that Springer explained why he’s such a weakling now on his show, where he started out with more advocacy. He’s on some stations now where it’s not an Air America outlet and he sometimes even leads into shows like Rush.
So he gets the dumbass Rethug talking-points callers and he licks their ass now to try and maintain his ratings, otherwise the money he paid to get carriage on Air America is pissed away entirely. I used to think he was convincing a larger group of swing voters, but now I see that he’s just letting them run off at the mouth in case his ratings go up.
With AAR’s quarterly ratings looking like this, going back quarter by quarter,
WLIB-A Talk Inner City 1.2 1.0 1.2 1.4
That means MS was an overachiever, with a 1.5 rating. Randi and Al were actually ratings successes, so what were the bombs on the station that pulled down the average?
and actually they have Replay A/V for $10 more that looks better because it apparently captures TV and video and makes everything available to ipod or disc/DVD
you can apparently get XM and Sirius this way too…huh?
Well, this I have to try!
Check the link above in msg 92

but i dont like degrading people its not nice im a nice guy i dont want to use ignominious im not mean
:nixon:and im not a crook
this has nothing to do with anything, but i came across this quote earlier today:
“The world is a tragedy to those who feel, but a comedy to those who think.”
i think i’ve been feeling too much.
Bush has carried himself in an ignominious and opprobrious manner bringing disgrace to us all.
How’s that?

Well done, andy!
so theres this memo
which I guess really shows that the white house knew.
I guess Al is saying that the Washinton Post has it too.
“I believe and have said that Judge Alito does not belong on the court. I support a filibuster, but that decision will be up to the Senate next week. Thanks, Howard Dean” 11:02 AM ET
Just got this email from Howard Dean. It really might be from him because the message I sent him was attached! 🙂

You know, farmerkat, I often wonder if these ignominious people were transported back in time to the 18th century exactly whose side they would have been on? And, exactly how the Constitution would have turned out if they had written it. They are weak and fearful. I suspect Washington and Jefferson would have thought of them as wingnuts, too!

Re: the summer meetup: Wouldn’t it be advisable to perhaps put together a bunch of them nation- or even worldwide; like perhaps one in NYC, one in Denver, one in the Raleigh-Durham area, one in Japan, one in LA, one in SF — and any other cities we decide?
I’m thinking it could be like the old Howard Dean house parties, where we could set up a bunch of them and have a conference call — then put photos up on the web so everyone can see what a blast we had.
Anyone else think this is a good idea? Because some of us won’t be able to afford to travel. :fustrate:
Washington and Jefferson would be disappointed and angry with the way we have taken care of the country.
fred, here’s more than you really want to know about the fall in the japanese stock market:

the 33-year-old guy they’re talking about (livedoor ceo) is a flamboyant sensation in japan. he wears t-shirts and jeans instead of suits, drives a ferari, etc. here’s a more gossipy juicy review of the story:

Billiant, can we move that summer Raleigh-Durham meet-up to Asheville. I would much rather deal with 85 degrees in July-August than 100 with 100% humidity. Besides, there is good beer at Barley’s and Jack’s.
Sean, we may make you get out and swim beside the boat for a while. Nah, that bit of cruelty is unfathomable. I got it! We will make you drink the pilsner and leave the ales for the rest of us.
SENATOR ROBERT MENENDEZ (D) NJ IS STILL UNDECIDED ON ALITO. ALITO WILL BE MEETING WITH HIM IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
tom t, your comment about klopresto:
i was listening to chuck d on sunday night this week (15 january) and he complained that he didn’t like the bumper music on his show, he told his staff to get rid of it, they said they were told by higher-ups to use it, chuck said get rid of it, it’s jazzac, like museac, he didn’t want it on his show, it better be gone next week.
i thought chuck d’s comments on his show smelled of dg in the background, too. who would have the nerve to impose their own crummy musical tastes on chuck d except some arrogant :jerk::tongue:
boy oh boy are we ever going to celebrate when dg gets kicked out of aar.
MAX BAUCUS (D) MONTANA WILL VOTE NO!!!!!

tom t, your quote,
“The world is a tragedy to those who feel, but a comedy to those who think.”
i think maron taught us seditionists to alternate between the two to keep sane.
Alito is meeting Senators this week trying to convince them to vote for him. Keep up the pressure.
Hey, Brilliant–that is, if I may say, brilliant!
I’ve been perplexed for some time about where the best place might be to do this, with everyone so spread out.
Plus, just my opinion, but I’m thinking the beerfest is kinda counterintuitive, given Marc’s history and all. (Not to mention those of us who are abstemious, whatever the reason.) I’m not saying we shouldn’t have any alcohol at this thing, however.
Eactly! isi
LOL making sean swim alongside the boat, nc:grin:
well, if we have multiple meet-ups, I assume that they will be simulcast via live stream video, yes:?: I mean, the MS Ark must float AS ONE:!:
I think the Repug’s are feeling our pressure on the Alito nomination. I found this from a group called Louisisna Collegians for Alito. In the letter they wrote to Senator Landrieu they said “…we call on Senator Landrieu to oppose any delay in the vote on Judge’s Alito’s vote and to reject the bullying tactics of liberal interest groups by upholding the time-honored values of the citizens of Louisiana.”
Pray tell, what “time-honored values” might they be talking about? 😉
and hopefully im floating into one of the cities when this goes down:banana:

why do they hate america? do i still have to swim? i used the word!!!!! ha im freakin awesome time to drink a 40:40: and be on my way
I think regional seditionist “chapters” is a great idea. Even if we try to pull together a big “central” meetup with as many folks who can get there, it would be great to have a bunch of sites with stuff going on. In fact, regional or metro area groups should definitely get together (like our Far East – and Far Out – friends in Tokyo) as often as anybody’s willing. Of course, it might be easier to get a group together in a metro area like New York (maybe Kent Jones or Riley could be convinced to stop by), LA (think Marc and Mishna would stop by?) or Portland than in, say, Syracuse (though I know you’re out there, SU students on ResNet and you TWCNY RoadRunner folks!).
And we’ll be needing picture, of course. Setting up a webcast might take a little work.

and what do they mean by time honored values of the state of louisiana? seperate but equal? jim crow? im pretty sure thats what they are talking about thats what i always think of as louisianas time honored values when it comes to republican thinking oh well im gonna go call chuck and hillary again tell their stupid asses to filibuster or lose my vote in 06 and 10
“time-honored values of the citizens of Louisiana.”
Uh, would that be the burnings or the lynchings? Or are they talking about Huey Long, which introduces that time-honored value of assasination.
I must admit that my visits to Louisiana have always been straight shots through on I-20 and I didn’t stick around long enough to experience the time-honored values, but I do know almost all my ancestors from Louisiana left decades ago.
seanms, my mistake (what do you kids say now “my bad”?)
I couldn’t read my writing and misquoted the poor collegians. What they really said was “oppose any delay in voting on Alito’s nomination.”
The words “time honored values” used in the deep south have always been code words, in my opinion, to refer to the days when the white man was accepted as king. I’m sure they think of it as the “good old days.”
I know Senator Landrieu feels she is in a tough spot. But, really she is not. Integrity is Integrity, no equivocation. The question shouldn’t be what will voting no do for my popularity but what will voting yes do for the country.
:growl:
okay isi now you have to take a little swim next to the boat get me all hopped up about some rethug grammar and its not even the rethugs with the bad grammar

Doesn’t matter to me…I’m in NJ…though who knows? we could be relocating to NC this year before it’s over.
Isi, you said that Menendez may vote yes on Alito? Yeesh. That’s a response to a new poll showing Tom Kean beating him by double-digits if the election were held now. Menendez was a BIG mistake by Corzine. HUGE. We are going to lose this seat next year — another damn DLC coward.
Re: recording a stream. I have a nice little cheapie app called Advanced MP3/WMA recorder. I’ve used it to do voice recording for automated surveyes, and also to extract the plug for my blog that Marc was nice enough to do after I reviewed his show in Hasbrouck Heights. It’s at http://www.xaudiotools.com“>. It’s $29.95 and worth every penny.
Howdy, blog sibs. I’m having a tough time keeping up today so don’t :spank: me for slacking off on the recipes. I’m behind on damn near everything right now. Just wanted to stop in and say hi. And thank Krista for the help (she’ll know what I’m muttering about…)

Yeah, yeah, I know – I was born in NC; its Asheville, not ashville. Just didn’t hit the “e” key hard enough (that finger is tired since it has been getting a lot of work lately, making the “gesture of increased fertility” to my former colleagues in the elephant party).
The Limbaugh sound alike aka big Eddy is telling his listeners the show on Alito is over. Go to your local AAR affiliate and send them a message that you are not happy ( ok pissed) and that big Eddy should be removed from their line up.

Human Rights Violations, War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity
Why an Economic Boycott of Israel is Justified
By NORMAN FINKELSTEIN
EDITORS’ NOTE: In early January Kristin Halvorsen, current Norwegian Finance Minister and leader of the Left Socialist Party (a member of the current three-party governmental coalition), expressed her personal and party support for a Norwegian boycott of Israeli goods and services. Almost immediately the Israeli ambassador to Norway protested and Condoleezza Rice threatened Norway with “serious political consequences” if Halvorsen’s statement represented the policy of the current government. Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre then dashed off a letter to Rice (addressed “Dear Condi”), assuring her that the Left Socialist Party’s position on a economic boycott of Israel “has never been and will never be” the policy of the Norwegian government. For her part Halvorsen distanced herself from her previous statements, as top leaders of the foreign affairs department criticized her and drew parallels between a boycott of Israeli goods and the Nazi boycott of Jewish shops. Finklestein’s piece was published in Norway’s most influential newspaper Aftenposten this past week.
The recent proposal that Norway boycott Israeli goods has provoked passionate debate. In my view, a rational examination of this issue would pose two questions:
1) Do Israeli human rights violations warrant an economic boycott? and
2) Can such a boycott make a meaningful contribution toward ending these violations?
I would argue that both these questions should be answered in the affirmative.
Although the subject of many reports by human rights organizations, Israel’s real human rights record in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is generally not well known abroad. This is primarily due to the formidable public relations industry of Israel’s defenders as well as the effectiveness of their tactics of intimidation, such as labeling critics of Israeli policy anti-Semitic.
Yet, it is an incontestable fact that Israel has committed a broad range of human rights violations, many rising to the level of war crimes and crimes against humanity. These include:

Gore Stands Up for the Constitution
A Challenge that Cannot be Ignored
By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS
Former vice president Al Gore gave what I believe to be the most important political speech in my lifetime, and the New York Times, “the newspaper of record,” did not report it. Not even excerpts.
For the New York Times, it was a nonevent that a former vice president and presidential candidate, denied the presidency by one vote of the Supreme Court, challenged the Bush administration for its illegalities, rending of the Constitution and disrespect for the separation of powers.
So much for “the liberal press” that right-wingers rant about. If a “liberal press” exists, the New York Times is certainly no longer a member.
The Washington Post had a short report on Gore’s address at Constitution Hall, but the newspaper, if that is what it is, managed to water down the seriousness and urgency of the message that Gore brought to the country with sneers.
Gore’s address is the first sign of leadership from the Democratic party in six years. This alone makes it a major news event. But not even his own party took notice. According to reports, only one Democratic senator, Dianne Feinstein (CA) was in the audience. One would have thought the entire Democratic congressional delegation would have turned out in support of Gore’s challenge to Bush’s extraordinary claims of power.
The lack of an opposition party makes the media vulnerable to intimidation by a dictatorial-minded administration. . . http://www.counterpunch.org

Feingold is UNDECIDED! I hope that he is just being cadgy–at this late date!
Can anyone not fail to recognize that Alito’s main schtick is to allow the president absolute powers, with which he can ensure that the corporations are freed up, so that they “can practice their love” on the world.
