i don’t have a tv so i had to read last night’s blog to see what happened on connan’s show. isi had a good report. while i was reading it riley had a clip on his show with connan’s introduction of maron last night, said there was a new show on air america radio, the marc maron show. then riley had another clip with marc talking about not wanting to get a gun.
this is the 1st i’ve heard that marc’s new show will be on aar. that’s good news because i would have had a really hard time figuring out how to get marc’s show otherwise.

Foggy, the biggest adjustment I have had to make moving back and forth between the Bay Area and the east coast has been the televised football. Being a charter member of the Church of Monday Night Football I want to live on the west coast. Then I could see the entire game before bedtime. Being in NC this cycle the games come on at bedtime.

I use to have female alphas who died of old age which was the main reason why I went to the mountains, so they had freedom. They were in cages when young. 🙁 Now I have just a beta hybrid. Now, just to hear them again — hearing you talk about them — if I could get hubby up there in Alaska, I would know no happines till I heard the wolves do their exquisitely, haunting howl. I am yearning. I sorely miss my wolves. Hubby said Danu (Green Dragon Dharma) is my last wolf and/or hybrid.
All female wolves Had Danu as first name with middle names different. My two last full females Where Danu Epona and before her was Danu Rhiannon. I will shut up. But it makes me think of the Northern Lights and th wolves and having to remember that it is David’s turn. I can understand, kinda. sniff sniff 😥

Hey- I just watched my VHS of Marc! It was GREAT! I wish he had talked about the show more because I want to know how long it is and if its weeknights or just weekends etc…Did Riley say anything?
I think it sounds like its national though…like, no problem with XM carrying it.
I cant imagine that they want to make it a local show unless its up against one of the other national shows and then the affiliates decide what to put on.
All of that is influenced by listener feedback so I think we should all really try to let them know…the stations locally, AAR, and the sponsers, how much we like it (if we do…ha! 😉

So it is The Marc Maron Show. I have been listening to The Ricky Gervais Show which is only podcast once a week. I did not realize it was that popular, around 4 million downloads so far. I like the fact that they have a guy on the show named Karl Pilkington, which rhymes with Mort Milfington. However, I can’t tell who is more twisted, is it Pilkington? Or is it Milfington?

Actually Pilkington is more like the character Barry Lank played as the Slander Minute reporter Ted Fields, who ike him goes on and on about some preposterous idea that only makes sense to him.
I just dont think that the pay podcast is going to work. If you have XM you can save shows into your player, and you can get programs to save streaming shows…so I think this idea is crazy. The shows in the archive are only important to die hard fans because they are out of date and the die hards are the BASE…you dont charge the base…you use them to spread the word and keep the spirit.
I’ll be interested in seeing how that all goes.
I think that support for Marc will be shown in the ratings and by feedback to the stations and sponsers from fans.
I am never again going to take something like this for granted….

Riley had some interesting things to say this morning. One was that, upon hearing Pakistani officials announce that 2 high-level al-quaeda people were blown to bits, in the recent CIA missile attack on a village in Pakistan, that the White House would use the announcement as a justification for the domestic spying.
The second was a query of whether you thought that the US would bomb a German or an Italian village, if they suspected that the villagers were harboring terrorists. Terrific.

No, Gervais does not charge a thing for the podcast. But he does claim that the more popular his podcast gets, the more it ends up costing, server charges and all. The sponsor, The Guardian newspaper of London, only keeps his shows around for a month. I haven’t used iTunes to download anything at all, but I suppose you can find all his shows there.

They wanted me to sign a fucking release form to check my credit but said that they actually don’t use it for that. They said they use it to get my MVD report. That’s fine I said but why do you need a credit check form, why don’t you use an MVD request form? Does that mean you have the freedom to check my credit any time? She said yes, so I said goodbye. I am not succumbing to drug testing and credit checks for a 20k/year(gross) job. melina – podcasting is the only way i can really listen to AAR. until the last week of shows, i’d never actually listened to a complete MS in real time. sitting in front of a computer from 8 to 11 in the evening was not an option for me, unless i was willing to alienate my wife and 7 year old son in the process. and podcasting is the only way i’m going to hear marc’s new show. i was planning on recording the stream, but i often suddenly lose my ADSL connection, which would leave me with something less than a complete show. how frustrating would that be?
you may have a point when you say that paying for podcasts is a vote for ?? g., not for marc; i hadn’t thought of it that way until you mentioned it. you’re probably right, but some of us may not have a choice.

Re: podcasts, presently, KTLK allows you to access a limited archive of the shows they have on their station (you have to subscribe – for free – and then you can log in and get them). For instance, they have MR back to Jan 4. Whether or not AAR will continue to allow that, I don’t know.
Also, from the sound of things before, Marc will be on KTLK, and probably a Weekend compilation (like they do for Hartmann) on AAR. Then they’d presumably offer his show for syndication. Since AAR isn’t offering him much money, I hope he can cut his own podcast deal. But I guess we’ll see as Feb 13 approaches.

I had a rude awakening this morning. I’d dutifully set my VCR to tape Conan. I did everything right. I really did. I just forgot to do one little thing….
So I’m watching the bit just before Marc comes on. They’re doing the whole thought balloon thing. We hear that the guest after the break will be comedian Marc Maron. Then I ran out of tape.
So I can’t wait for it to show up online.
So here’s a recipe in an attempt to make myself feel better about it all.
VEGETABLE ALECHA
Ethiopian Vegetable Stew
Yield: 8 portions
In a 4-quart saucepan saute:
1 cup BERMUDA ONIONS in
4 Tbs. OIL until soft but not brown.
Add: 4 CARROTS, peeled and cut in 1-inch slices

1 6-oz. can TOMATO SAUCE
2 tsp. SALT
1/2 tsp. GROUND GINGER.
Cook for 10 minutes covered.
Add 4 POTATOES cut in thick slices. Plunge 2 TOMATOES in boiling water, remove skins, cut in 8 wedges each, and add to stew. Cover and cook for 10 minutes. Add 8 CABBAGE WEDGES, 1 inch wide. Sprinkle with SALT and PEPPER. Cook until vegetables are tender. Taste for seasoning

I’ve had the same experience and blew off a job with an insurance company because they wanted me to sign a form like that (electronically, via e-mail) before even INTERVIEWING me!! I had been contacted by a head hunter & referred to this company (I was rather surprised by the contact), so they e-mailed me this form to sign & said they would set up an interview after I agreed to the conditions of the release — which not only included credit check, but talking to family,neighbors and former employers and a bunch of other stuff which basically sounded like giving blanket permission for top secret security clearance. It was totally ridiculous for a stupid medical case management job for a frickin insurance company. So I emailed them back with a copy to the head hunter & told them what they could do with their stinking job :growl:. The head hunter called me when he got his copy and was really had his panties in a knot, so I told him I wasn’t going to give up my 4th amendment rights for a stinking job and that such an invasive release is ridiculous for a non-security job. 👿
When presented with any forms like this for subsequent jobs, I have crossed out the credit checking permission and anything else that I felt to be unneccessary & illegal & initialed it writing “I do not give consent or permission for these activities” next to my initials just to be clear. And I asked to have a photocopy of the signed “consent”. You might want to do that. There is no legal basis for any employer refusing employment for common labor jobs because an applicant refuses to give up 4th amendment rights; and I don’t know what legal justification any employer has for even demanding that someone seeking employment should sign such a release!! It’s just another control the :sheep:le tactic.
They don’t need “consent” to check public records to see if you are a criminal before hiring you. Corporations just want more and more control over us wage slaves. :mad::mad:

Krista, this credit release thing is the new trend in hiring practices. I’m not at all sure why they do it except that it gives the employer more information about you than they can ask for in the interview. They can’t, for instance, ask your marital status but a credit report will give them info on that. Or they can’t ask your hobbies but if they can access your private records they might get an idea of them. They can’t ask about sex at all but this is a source for them to determine if you’re gay or straight. And it might give religious and ethnic insight, too. However, by hiding it behind a simple credit check to be sure they aren’t going to be robbed by a debt-ridden employee, they’re staying within the limits of the law. They’re obeying the letter of it, not the spirit.

gypsy is absolutely right – the credit report allows the HR dept to answer all the questions they can’t legally ask. In addition, the data in it is used in several algorithms that compute how long you are likely to stay with the company, what kind of employee you are (team player, loner, etc.) as well as your likelihood of committing fraud, etc. I’m not surprised it was required for an interview for any position in the insurance industry.
In small doses to make a special point profanity is ok, but a lot of it doesn’t add much to the discussion, especially if the goal is to convince someone about an issue they haven’t decided on.

The Florida panhandle is thorough-going Republican. Even Democrats run as Republicans. Nevertheless, the newspaper’s editor, Ron Kelley, believes that American political life is measured by something larger than party affiliation. In his editorial, “The shepherds and the sheep,” Kelley reports that two Florida counties have banned any further use of Diebold voting machines after witnessing a professional demonstration that the machines, contrary to Diebold’s claim, are easily hacked to record votes differently from the way in which they are cast by voters.
The pre-election statement by Diebold’s CEO that he would work to deliver the election to Bush was apparently no idle boast. In five states where the new “foolproof” electronic voting machines were used, the vote tallies differed substantially from the exit polls. Such a disparity is unusual. The chances of exit polls in five states being wrong are no more than one in one million.
Miller describes considerably more election fraud than voting machines programed to count a proportion of Kerry votes as Bush votes. Voters were disenfranchised in a number of ways. As for not negotiating, I guess it depends on what your objectives are. In principle I agree that you don’t negotiate with kidnappers, especially in the middle of an incident – it just encourages repeats. But you have to understand why people do things, and address the underlying reasons if those reasons are rational. The wrong things people do for the right reasons don’t invalidate the reasons.
US elections don’t meet international norms for free and fair elections. Period. Should be embarrassing to conservatives more so than liberals. But there are very few conservatives left in the heierarchy of Republican party.
I posted that review of Miller’s book because it was written by a libertarian, not because it was particularly groundbreaking. One point I gather is that the dems are not concerned that the elections are being hijacked. So, if the dems don’t give a fuck, why should common people?

I think that, in reality, it’s more like you don’t openly negotiate, and you never admit that you did. In practice, they do it all the time, using back channels and proxies. Of course, if you’re seen giving in to their demands, then you’re just encouraging others to do the same thing to get what they want.

I am familiar with the miller book, so I scrolled down to see who was writing the review and was amazed to see he was a former reagan official. it really drives me nuts that dems are so resistant to the obvious problems with electronic voting. and really makes me suspicious….
hand counting paper ballots is the gold standard. we’re fighting for that here in mass. and making some progress. of course, there always has been and always will be some shenanigans with voting systems but, come on, do we really want to make it that EASY to mess with the vote? :fustrate:

Jesus, I listened to Randi rant for a while about something Hillary said, having to do with plantations. Apparently the Raving Right was all atwitter, so Randi spent forever “defending” Hillary. Isn’t that just what the RR is hoping for…credibility? What if they had said Hillary had purple armpits? Would Randi go on for hours about that, too? Randi, dear, why not just ignore their silly ravings altogether and talk about something of substance…such as a fillibuster of Alito?
Granted, there are countless reasons to despise Hillary…but calling the Congress a plantation isn’t one of them. Hillary slipped up and said something true, that’s all. I’m sure it won’t happen again.

I went back and tried the link to Marc’s interview once more after hoping I had downloaded some software right and VOILA there the :sheep:le man was in full form. It was great to see him and I got some late night laughs and no longer mad at myself for falling asleep just as he came on last night! He so gets people with “the Little Gay Man” bit and then a healthy dosage of his typical hypocondria which seems so “him.”
I saw MS 4-5 times in person in NYC and loved Marc’s energy. I so miss WAKE UP SHEEPLE in the morning at the end of the show. I made WAKE UP SHEEPLE buttons for fun when I went to their shows just to give out and had them sign a couple that I have on my funny mantle in my office as sentimental memory of the fabulous show.
I am just so thrilled to see this and not have to wait until next Wednesday for the rerun. Thanks, thanks, thanks for linking and for the other person who put the software download. Excited to hear his new show.
