Lots of work to do today. With a vote to end debate on the Alito nomination set to happen on Monday, we all need to call our own and other senators to push for a filibuster. To have the thugs nuke the rules of the US Senate is one thing, but to try a filibuster and lose because you’ve been stabbed in the back by your own party, well, that’s something far worse. Say what you want about John Kerry (I’ve said a thing or two myself), he promised to lead a filibuster, and he’s kept his promise. Now we need to let the other Democrats know they can’t turn their backs on him – and us – on this one.
They need to know that standing up to this group of fascists in power isn’t what will get them in trouble – it’s cowering and posturing that will do them in. Giving in to Bush, Frist, Cheney, and their ilk is no different than Neville Chamberlain appeasing Hitler. Well, Hitler wasn’t satisfied with Poland, and this unholy bunch won’t be satisifed until this nation has been bankrupt in order to line their own pockets, and we’re all living in a Police State, with no right to privacy, no sovereignty over our own bodies, and surviving only by the grace of our corporate masters.
These people have no ethics, they have no shame, and they have no right to be in charge of this country. They must be stopped, and this filibuster is a good first step.
LIVE ON AIR FILIBUSTER
Watch and listen as The Young Turks http://www.youngturk.com/xoops filibuster right now until 41 senators support a filibuster of Sam Alito. They will stay on-air until they get democrats to join the fight!

Carpe Filibuster, Senator Feingold!
Stand up, start talking, and don’t stop.
You’re smart and eloquent, you’re on Judiciary, you’re the Senate champion on civil liberties, you’re facing off against an anti-choice nominee who believes in the so-called “unitary executive” but couldn’t remember what he thought about the fraud of Bush v. Gore, and you know Scalito will let Bush & Cheney run roughshod over the Constitution.
So lead the fight. A lot is on the line, and a nation is waiting for leadership.
When the GOPs invoke cloture, take your filibuster out on the road.
(Don’t forget to mention Dr. Lani Guinier, and Bill Lann Lee…)
And paint your top 3 reasons on your garage door.
This is your moment.

I hope it is okay to have copied, isi — AND CALLED The Young Turks:!:
Maybe I am 3rd blogger by now 😉 …:fire:

Filibuster Alito
Yesterday, Senator Ted Kennedy and I told our colleagues that we supported a filibuster of Judge Alito’s nomination for the Supreme Court. And we weren’t alone. But the bottom line is that it takes more than two or three people to filibuster successfully. It’s not “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.” If you want to stop Judge Alito from becoming Justice Alito, use your own email list and organize. We can’t just preach to our own choir. We need to prove to everyone – from our friends and neighbors to our fellow Senators – that the American people know Judge Alito will take our country in the wrong direction, and they expect something to be done about it.
So I’m asking you to join Senator Kennedy, me, and concerned citizens across America who are signing this petition to support a filibuster. If there was ever a time to forward an email on to friends and family, this is it. One way or another, we’re going to find out in the next few days if Judge Alito is going to become Justice Alito. You know where I stand. The time to make your voice heard is now. So please sign this filibuster petition and get as many friends as you can to do the same.

BREAKING: FILLIBUSTER WITHIN REACH – CALL NOW!!
by DerekLarsson Wed Jan 25, 2006 at 05:41:44 PM PDT
Folks, this message just in from Progressive Democrats For America (PDA).
_____________________
The Fillibuster is within our grasp!
Call now and let them know we mean business!
Fillibuster here we come…
No Retreat, No Surrender!
Senate Democrats refuse to signal whether or not they will filibuster Alito. They appear to have 41 votes, since Ben Nelson (D-NE) is the only one of 44 Democrats who supports Alito. Jim Jeffords (I-VT) should oppose Alito, and 5 Republicans – Lamar Alexander (TN), Lincoln Chafee (RI) Susan Collins (ME), Olympia Snowe (ME), and Ted Stevens (AK) – are undecided.
We’ve called and called, but we need to call our Senators again and DEMAND A FILIBUSTER: TOLL FREE – 888-355-3588 or 888-818-6641
For extra credit, use the same numbers to call all the 2008 Presidential candidates who are sitting Senators – Evan Bayh, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Russ Feingold, and John Kerry – and tell them to either LEAD THE FILIBUSTER or FORGET ABOUT YOUR SUPPORT. You can also send that message to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (202-224-2447) and the Democratic National Committee (202-863-8000

They give me hope…….they are great:!: Someone that shows their righteous anger.
They are brilliant:!:  …:fire:
fred, I am older than 30 😉 and glad to finally hear the 20-ish and 30-ish :growl: :rofl2: …:fire:
I have listened to the Young Turks before.. I think Radiopower.org has them on before Hartman’s live national show. They weren’t live at that time of day. They definitely communicate with the younger generation.
I want to put my Kerry bumper sticker back on my car.
:fire:
Morning Boat People!
I gather the Young Turks are going out over Sirius in the Bill Press time slot ?? I thought that they might be going out over a broadcast radio station in which case half of what they say would be beeped out.
FILIBUSTER!!!
The Dems have nothing to lose by doing it. Their only alternative is laying low, being cowards, and losing the support of progressives.
Nice to see that someone gave Kerry a gift card for the Backbone Store for the holidays. (Yeah, fuck you, O’Reilly, I said holidays.) Maybe next year he can return the favor when he goes shopping for Robert Byrd and Ben Dover, I mean Ben Nelson.
And what’s up with Bush telling Hamas that you’re not a partner in the peace process if you’re trying to destroy a country? He’s destroying a country. (Two, if you count the US.)
FILIBUSTER!!!
IMPEACHMENT!!!
VIGILANCE!!!
:fire::fire::fire:
I’d never heard of the Young Turks. Being Greek, I was at first put off by the name until I read the definition.
fred, Thanks to the Young Turks I now know of Bill Press, who is also great:!: But I  the Turks — and am no longer forced solely to listen to Mark. AAR You Are So Stupid:!:
I will kinda listen to Rachel…but back to the Turks 😀
Isi knew, you knew, the bloggies knew, the world knew — I have a tendency to be soooo mono-focus on what I am working on that I forget to “look around”.
 :spank: …..:fire:
The dems seem to be afraid they will look like obstructionists with the moderate Dems and moderate rethugs who might vote for them . I don’t think anyone who has listened to Olbermann or AAR for the last six months would touch Alito with a ten foot pole, There must be a perceived bunch of really stupid moderates who are computer illiterate and don’t have AM radios.
Of course with AAR’s commercaisls they might have gotten tired of throwing up :barf:and quit listening:rant1:
Fred, I do not really know… but I think on Sirius …cuz they swear well:!: :rofl2:
Re Bill, they mentioned his radio and phone # so I just “googled” his name (radio show). 😀 …:fire:
I think Rachel is trying to be a Stephie Millier warm up. She isn’t a Marc replacement for sure. I don’t remember this much comedy in her previous shows,
Our local right wing rag had a lot of anti Salazar letters to the editor last night. I think I will start looking up the names on the articles in the on line city directory and plotting there addresses with push pins on a city map. Maybe we will find they all live in the same area.. that might prove useful later on…we can build a fence around them.
Morning Farmerkat :billcat: (:eek:How I am:omg:) Now we need a krazy dog — ( and now I do have “pound-rats” too) :rofl2:
I think I have now CHANGED MY BLOODY SLEEP HABITS

This is a good resource I found for links to liberal talk radio shows. Most of them have web streams also.
There are a lot more than you might think.
Good Morning Seditionistas. So, are we gonna have to move back over to the AAR blog when Marc’s show comes on the air? I bet they wouldn’t let him have a blog for his show on his own site. I think I like this blog better.
Wow, where is everyone. Writing and calling their Senators I assume?
ok, ordered marc’s cd so now have t-shirt, mug and cd…am I an official maronette:?:
SEAN: I baked an Oatmeal Coconut cake yesterday and thought of you! :cake: ummmm cake!
Hi everyone-
Why is it news that Oprah talked to Frey about his lie book?
Dont they realize that all publicity is good publicity. And what does Joe Scarborough know? It seems that NBC only uses their own same old guys over and over…but shouldnt they use a popular culture reporter rather than a political pundit?
To make things worse they just had Russert on and he said the Dems definitley dont have the numbers to filibuster…then I called my Mom to make sure she had called Hillary and Schumer and she said that she thinks thats not right….and Arianna Huffington has a blog entry today about Russert’s dishonesty.
Is Russert right?
And what of anything else going on in the world??
The President speaks and the big story is the camera hanging from the ceiling…
i am busy writing these dudes, kristapea, but it is VERY quiet in there.:sheep:
Hello, Good morning ,, what ever.. Krista. The phone answering people at the capitol seem to be quite busy.
Not ’til you score an autographed copy of the Jerusalem Syndrome.
greetings seditionists!!!
:banana::banana:
well, good for Kerry calling to get the Filibuster goin’!!
and yay for Marc lovely email informing us about his show and new cd!!!:banana::sammy::bow::priest::bong::hubba::banana::40::nixon::banana:
and i love our smileys….so much:love::doh:
so how is everyone??
It takes 60 votes to cut off debate.. The rethugs only have 58 committed at the moment ( 55 retugs and 3 demodorps). Russert is as usual full of s*. The dems who said they won’t vote for a filibuster need to get an earful today.
haha….
“Marc Maron: Tickets Still Available

he should have recorded it at Go Bananas just to piss off Jim:sammy::banana::nod:
Im tired…was up last night working on my blog and managed to scramble to html then fix it….it was so silly and it took so long. I need a HTML for dummies book.
I got right through to my senators but my Mom in NY is having trouble…but they have a zillion phone numbers so I just guided her to http://www.nocrony.com to find the other numbers.
Im really pissed that the fax machines seem to have been turned off.
How can these news organizations have become so insular that you dont even get any outside viewpoint…and if you do the talker is trying so hard to get a regular shot that they act like all the rest of them so they’ll fit in…damn…
From John Kerry’s office
calls need to be made to Landrieau, Salazar, Johnson, and Byrd BY EVERYONE no matter your location.
Toll free numbers for the senator office building switch board 888-818-6641, 888-355-3588
Druid, glad you copied the information. I was up in the middle of the night and found that information then went back to bed.
Re: Russert. When did punditocracy take over in this country. Was it with CNN capitol gang? It is a disgrace because taking up air time predicting what will happen and not digging into the issues of the day does a disservice to the public. If Russert spent his time informing the public there would be no time for predictions. And, besides the group dynamic of an informed citizenry is unpredictable. Shame on Russert and all the rest of them!
Mr. Farmerkat is a real journalist
OK I got Marc’s CD…I wish he had some other swag on his site. I got an MS mug and sweatshirt when the show was ending just to have something….but I am now finishing the MS downloading before the 1st and going to move on to the new show.
DG and the board of AAR have absolutely wrecked the mornings and if this is what they do then I expect them to strat tooling with the rest of the day (except Jerry and the satellite sisters, of course.)
I think that America needs another liberal network!…I wish we could start all over again.
Im trying these young turks….anything is better than Imus.
The M$M has a vested interest in the rethugs succeeding. On top of that a lot of the pundits make enough money that they benefit from Bushes tax cuts. If you listen to them you just won’t get the correct information.
A majority of Americans are more likely to vote for a candidate in November’s congressional elections who opposes President Bush, and 58 percent consider his second term a failure so far, according to a poll released Thursday.”

So, it seems we all got mugs and shirts to remember MS. It would be funny if we could all go to a show of Marc’s dressed in our MS gear and holding our mugs with eager grins on our faces. Do you think we could scare him?:shock:
Young Turks? That is Greek to me.:cres::omg:
Heh. Reminds me of when the Russian escaped from Chris and Paulie Walnuts out in the Jersey woods.
John Kerry just added the -er to filibust and is rallying Senators to stop Samuel Alito. And before you say, “where was this sort of leadership in 2004?” or “is it too little too late?” make sure you understand the importance of this action.
There is shockingly little support in the United States Senate among Democrats, distressingly little.
In fact, even twenty four hours ago, it truly appeared that no one was going to stand up.
But John Kerry did. For two reasons. One he truly believes in a women’s right to choose and the importance of Roe v Wade as established law in the United States of America. And second, he has personally become more aware of the online community and of their passion on this issue over the past two weeks. Seeing that passion, and understanding that all of the progressive websites and their readers need someone to stand with them in Washington, John Kerry stood up.
He is doing what Peter Daou and I have been advocating for a year. John Kerry is beginning to bring the traditional Democratic leadership in Washington together with the untraditional netroots activists of the country. A man often accused of being the ultimate Washington insider looked outside of the beltway and saw the concern, in fact, the distress among literally millions of online Democrats. Any one of our Senators could have stood up. But as others triangulated, fabricated, postulated and capitulated, there was only one who decide he had had enough.
Will we win? I’m not sure. But I once was on a pretty bad freshman basketball team in high school. We used to lose and lose big. But we always showed up. We always played hard. Because we knew something that a bunch of other Senators in DC don’t seem to know, you might not always win if you stand up and fight. But you are guaranteed to lose if you don’t.
John Kerry just answered the bell. Now it’s our turn.

Hell, it would scare me. Especially if we were all chanting “brains” as we shuffled toward him. :omg:
Yeah! That Russian commando has yet to reappear. One tough son-of-a-bitch. He took a headshot, too.
BUSH/ABRAMOFF PHOTOS via farmerkat/crooksand liars :rofl2:
They might get a better response if they didn’t turn their faxes off and shut down their 8XX numbers.
Here’s how I look at it, being from the media/entertainment business…
Sometimes the “first mover” is simply not the one that succeeds, and although we have to give AAR a fair shake, it’s entirely possible that personalities like Marc or Lizz Winstead, thrown away by AAR will be the ones that crack the audience in the end with the chemistry of entertainment and activism. That was Lizz’ entire idea, and that’s what is suddenly gone for six hours a day from AAR.
Springer’s show, he has now told us, is slotted in between right-wing talk on some of his stations — he pays for his time like the Satellite Sisters, who bumped Malloy in New York — and that is why he gives so much time to brainless shill callers.
Franken is moving to the “center” like any spineless Democratic candidate would, and has settled into a shtick of “laughing” at the outrageous Republican policies that make the un-rich into second-class citizens. There’s no edge, no push at all. Franken’s research has also suffered a lot, and though he does need to repeat things – this is radio — he’s repeated them in the same words much too much. Like the press at large, he’s too comfortable in his own life to want to fight.
In between Rachel and Randi, there is six hours of essentially dead space. So there remains a void in progressive talk. Much the way the record industry needs a Madonna or a Prince or an Eminem to ignite interest, we shouldn’t be so lazy as to say the truth will attract listeners. We need stars in our business too, and Marc’s one.
…wow…and the great CNN story about the poll!
Thats a reason to be cheerful…though of course we have to look ahead soberly because picking up the pieces from this disaster will not be easy.Fred, you’ve got such good stuff today. Keep it coming!
A guy on Young Turks just called in and said that Howard Stern has been talking about the filibuster and encouraging people to call and mail….interesting! I know so many repugs who LOVE Stern….
Oprah! Oprah! Oprah! Who gives a flying Fukk?:rofl2::omg:
skiddlybop, thanks for that. I agree so much with you about Franken. He is not an activist.
That would be great if Stern started encouraging his listeners to get involved. I can’t stand him myself , but he keeps free speech limber!
The 9 am to 3 pm time slot seems to be full of progressive talk shows. A lot of the AAR affiliates have their own shows in that spot. Miller and Hartman have national shows in that time slot. I find a scarcity of shows in the 3 pm to 7 pm slot. I can find only Rhodes and Schultz in that time period and Im getting really tired of both of them.
Jersey woods
i thought it was from Fargo (although i remember the jersey woods scene, too.
Enough of the discourses. No one is communicating. Hamas overwhelmingly won. Negotiate the dismantling of the illegal settlements, which UN resolutions demand!
:nixon::peace::jesus::rofl2::omg:
Just shut up about Palestine, Springer, you misinformed hack. Regurgitating the MSM propaganda. The Stern Gang wasn’t terrorist?
One word answer to this….YES!!
I think it would scare the sh*t out of him….we have to try hard not to be the crazy stalking fringe here…heh…
😉
HOWEVER…..if we doctored a photo to make it Bush and Abramoff and Bin Laden and Sadam in MS T shirts with mugs and silly grins on their faces….well…that, he’d probably like! HA!

It was in the Jersey Pine Barrens. They thought they had killed the guy. But he rose up like Rasputin…:rofl2:
Hey!So I’m listening to Charles Goyette and he’s talking to Will Durst and Will is saying he has a morning show out of San Fran( I think I heard it right) Starting at 7 Pacific time. I’ll keep listening for a station.
OH, Everyone give The Young Turks a call 1-323-866-8201 (or listen http://www.youngturk.com/xoops) THX ISI AND FRED AND ALL:!::!::!:
Isi, I did know you were here. Just saw your blog. I was so worried to post your things, so I made sure ALL names involved (including yours) were listed. I would wait forever (so it seemed) then I would finally list, hoping that you would not mind too much me carring over YOUR stuff from late last night. You just had alot of great stuff so why repeat? …:fire:
Revolution! Rise up now. We can’t wait for the water level to rise and drown us all. Mushroom clouds anyone?
Will Durst is on Mother Jones Radio. Not sure about any broadcast affiliates, but I beleive MJR is free to stream (maybe to podcast, too).
It could well be that the dems just don’t think their is much public outcry over Alito because they listen to CNN ( lets hope they don’t listen to FAUX). I wouldn’t be surprised if the rethugs have made arrangements with the telecommunications companies to restrict the number of circuits available to feed the phones and fax machines in the dems offices.
BYE! Thanks for the interaction.:-(
Oh, he’s on the Quake, 7 – 10 Pacific, with former Mayor Willie Brown.
Ellen Ratner from the talk radio news service was just talking to Hartman and she doesn’t see a Filibuster happening…. I turned the messenger off…..shooting the computer would be counter productive.
well, since i can’t call senators right now (homework…..:growl:) i just signed the open letter on http://www.JohnKerry.com
let’s :spank: Alito!
Skidlybop- I agree totally with you and I actually have hope for the future. Ive been reading a radio professional’s blog that I found by accident because I was setting up an interview with the guy who owns it. Its called mercuryradioresearch…anyway, there is not often much there and the guy who runs it likes Howard stern or his rise to fame or his business model (Im not saying that he likes the content because he never says that) but I posted one of my too long wordy things there about what I see the future of these things as being…and I thought it probably fell on deaf ears, but it didnt…
I had become interested in Rushkoff and his ideas of thinking outside the box for advertising professionals.
And I really am thinking that the future of everything is that we will all choose our own content…TV, Movies, Radio…why ever listen to someone else’s schedule unless youre in the car…? Well, with my nifty XM skifi I can save hours of programming from just this morning…
We are in the infancy of this because I think that we will be able to wirelessly get content while on the road…
and at the same time I think that its really important to have a live time that things like radio are taped so that there can be alot of interaction, callins, blogs etc…
It seems wide open to me…Makes me wish I was young again and just starting out in the business.
My professional time in show biz involved commercial production and some movie production…and it made me terribly unhappy because it meant nothing to the world…but I enjoyed the organizational parts of that work…
Anyhoo….Of course, as I rail on about how we will have MORE choice as time goes on, we seem to have less in our little corner of the world!
…I realize that I dropped the thread on the Mercury radio research thing…but I guess that my point is that the couple thousand radio professionals on that list are really actively seeking out what is next…and that gives me hope. Even though its not a busy blog, it has some real shining moments of how the insiders think…and you can tell who is more progressive in these things and who is entrenched…
Ellen Ratner, Bitch :growl:
Wow…I just noticed that my little RIPCoco is on the friends list…how nice…its RIPCoco’s first link
Druid…how many rats do you keep?
I will soon try to write about my many pets on RIPCoco…but I had more than a few years of crippled gerbils (list their hands to bad nest bedding that cut off circulation)…it was a testament to the spirit of beings in general how they adapted…
ultimately rodents smell too bad for me but I dohave a Hedgehog who I refer to as a rat with spikes…Tumbleweed.

 Melina, congratulations, great site
Listening to Turks…very good…and they are talking about the press ahndling of the filibuster.
I think that Kerry must realize on some level that he has no shot in hell of getting the dem nomination again unless he does something BIG….This could go either way…but I believe that a sucessful dem candidate will come out and make bold moves. Its gonna take more than this for me to trust Kerry again after the numerous mis steps he made
Me too, but it’s a good start. Perhaps he’s learned that he’s better off being the John Kerry that spoke so eloquently and passionately before the Sentate Foreign Relations committee all those years ago. One can only hope.
This is from Kerry’s 1971 testimony. If you get a chance, read the whole thing. Substitute Cheney for Agnew, the Middle East for Asia, and Iraq for Vietnam, deserts for rice paddies, and it sounds quite familiar. In fact, if you take the rhetoric from Vietnam and the Cold War, and substitue “terrorists” for “communists,” and “Haliburton” for “Dow Chemical,” you’ll see it’s all just the same. We fight the communists (terrorists) in SE Asia (Iraq) so we don’t have to fight them here.
The Yong Turks web site seems to have gone down.. how convenient
Y’know…Kerry had information that would have derailed the Swiftboat thing and he didnt use it. He found too many things involved in beating Bush to be unseemly. I think that he has the right values, but I just dont know that he has the balls (Ive been watching alot of the Colbert Report too much!) to fight on the level that we need…
The world would be a different place right now if Kerry had just lowered himself a little and started slinging back…
But Im watching him carefully.
Melina, I (and the young teenager son) demanded the male and female rats, cuz they were on the way to the “pound”. Then I had them about a week and “poof” then there were 5 babies:!: I now have them seperated. :billcat: (me)
ahhhh Tumbleweed. Mine are named Dharma (f), Karma (m), Diamond (f), Emerald (m), Ruby (m), Opal (f), Pearl (f) = My Little Gems – Dharma and Karma are called Gems in Tibetan Buddhism. 😉

Druid- Yes, I too ended up with two huge tanks of girls and boys. It took me a generation or two to get it absolutely right. It turns out that gerbil females can be born pregnant and/or get pregnant by very young, still nursing brothers…yuck!!
So, it took a while…
God, I used to sit back in the computer room in the din of wheels going round watching them run on their stumps and trying to write…
what a life…
I have dogs: Lola, Angelina, Buck, Orchid, Sandy
Snakes: Snow, Leon
Fish: puffy or puff daddy
Lobster: Blue
Hedgehog: Tumbleweed
and the big black snake that lives in the basement but he is wild so gets no name. He leaves me the biggest skins.
I will post pics of him on my blog at some point soon.
This is a slow time pet-wise round here because we had a round of deaths (thus RIP Coco and Jacques and Puffy 1 and other Blue who ran away…and the few snakes Ive lost too)
I am not a bird person because I find them to be dirty, but I have been researching some very little finchs because they are so pretty and not too loud….and I dont think they live forever…however they can never be tamed, so you dont have to feel guilty if you dont keep trying to hold them and stuff.
I also want to rescue a greyhound…but I cant afford the vet bills as it is…and I have a very sick young Angelina here who has some chronic stomach thing that makes her throw up all the time.

Joe Biden Don’t Even Think About Running for President!
A Democratic senator who plans to vote against Alito’s confirmation, Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, said Friday that prospects for a successful filibuster were dim and he doesn’t support the idea. :rant1:
“A filibuster, I think, is not likely to occur,” Biden told CBS’ “The Early Show.” “But who knows, one man can generate a filibuster.”

Melina, so you are a S U C K E R too :rofl2: GREAT:!::!:
My husband says no others, but I keep reminding him I had 11 stray cats :billcat: and a stray dog I found in my alley.
I have 7 (at one time stray) cats :billcat:,1 that is 1/2time stray, between 15 and 20 outside strays — with stray names, a hybrid, and the lil gems. 😀
I laugh at myself as The Crazy Cat Lady, cuz the young ones like to look at the strange lady. But they are cute … and I think they like breaking my “barriers”.
😉 …:fire:
(sorry my being awake for last 21hrs is getting apparent)
Hey Druid-
Did you know that you have your own action figure?
Good thing Im allergic to cats. I did have alot of outside strays when I lived in brooklyn. The ones here are really woodland feral and impossible to catch…but, anyway, they all get killed up here where I live because of the bobcats and coyotes….Im always afraid that Ill lose a chihuahua out in the dog run to one of those or the hawk that lives on the swing set…
Ah, nature…
An e-mail from democrats.com:
You know, Hillary SUCKS!!…this is just so typical of someone who has aspirations…how can she ever talk about the bad things that the Bushies did again if she doesnt stand up now?
I didnt like her before, I dont like her now.
Ive got to run out for a while…Im wondering what the rest of them are doing…Maybe I can catch it on the radio in the car…I think XM has a CSPAN channel…
Melina, I think you have done and are doing more than “the average bear” (a lead balloon joke). I miss the mountains and lions, and bob cats, and bears. Oh My. 🙂
And THX for letting me know of that crazy cat lady:!: I will get. It’s soooooo perfect:!: I HAD NO :!::!: I made A FEW BOOKMARKS (so as to have a spare:wink:) THXTHXTHX:!::!::!: …:fire:
We just got through to the Friends of Hillary in NYC number (the other numbers have been busy). The person who answered the phone said they had gotten lots of calls. So, keep trying to get through. I don’t know if she’s made some sort of a deal with somebody, or if she’s just so isolated by the DLC types that she doesn’t get it, but she needs to know that her constituents demand that she stand up do the right thing. This sort of posturing will not get her the ’08 nomination.
UPDATE: I just got through to Hillary’s NYC office. The staffer said that she IS going to support the filibuster (that the previous information was incorrect).
So, call and tell them you applaud her decision to support the filibuster!
pjsauter , THX re HILL #. I was just going to call — so thx for update:!:
Well. Back to work ….. not my regular job, but solely to Filibuster alito, the twit:!: …:fire:
From Democrats.com (again):
Amazing what a few thousand phone calls will do. Keep calling the the rest of those Democrats (and even the supposed “moderate” Republicans, like Olympia Snowe, who seem to talk a good game, but in the end always vote the way they’re told to). I’m really disappointed with Byrd. He was one of the few with guts enough to stand up against authorizing Bush to go to war, and now he does this. Maybe he’s just channeling his old Klan days.
happy 250th birthday to mozart :cake:
the highlight concert of the week in salzburg is live on xm radio ch 110 at the moment. salzburg shops have all closed down for the celebration. there will be a moment coming up when everyone raises their champagne glasses together in tribute to mozart. i understand it’s also being televised but have no info on that.
some beautiful music as a respite in our alito struggles. helps us carry on.

Will Vote NO on Alito
He is making a very strong statement against Alito.
pjsauter , If I have different internet addresses, will senators not KNOW that email was from California?
….:fire:
Dorgan’s office just told me he will not support the filabuster and he’s not sure how he’ll vote on alito. i said it doesn’t matter how he votes if he doesn’t stand by the filabuster, a no vote is meaningless.
John Kerry is speaking on the Senate floor right now.
Good morning, seditionisti. I didn’t even get to hear Kent Jones say “vigilance.” I slept really soundly until Tom Hartman started talking about Mozart and Heidi corrected something he said and I woke up groaning, “Oh, damn, HIM!”
I’ve got the recipe for today but closed the file so I could do some of the work they pay me for, so it’ll be along shortly.
I’m beginning to hate Hillary more and more. She apparently did a fundraiser for herself here in Portland and didn’t even deign to work anything out with the local Dems. Fuck’er. Maybe she hates us because Monica is from Oregon…but still, fuck’er.
http://www.buzzflash.com/ Harry Reid says not enough votes for a Filibuster ??
While it isn’t inconceivable that somebody could look through the headers to find the IP address of the source machine (assuming you didn’t take any steps to hide or spoof it) and then trace it back to the location from which it originated, the likelihood that Senate staffers have the time, ability, and desire to dissect every email that comes in is quite low. Besides, just because you’re visiting your mother-in-law in Fresno doesn’t mean you’re not from Sandusky.
senators kerry, clinton, and kennedy onboard for the filibuster.
we can shame biden into doing an about-face.
question: do emails help at this point? are phone calls and faxes the only thing that helps?
Reid needs to strip chairmanships and committee appointments from anybody who doesn’t support the filibuster, and move any democrat who actually votes FOR Alito into a broom closet for an office.
so far: 56 yes, 33 NO!!!
ooooo…some people have changed sides! this is getting interesting.:banana:
pjsauter THX “the Force Is With You:!:”
Fred, I JUST got off the phone of Reid’s office…..
I was told — and he talked several minutes with me — he swore that Reid has NOT MADE a decision re Alito AND his office (Washinton DC ofc) has been overwhelmed by the calls/EMAILS CALLING FOR ALITO’S FILIBUSTER:!: the call ended as of 10:50/51am PST

Kerry talked for about 30 minutes today and ended by saying this is just some of what I will be talking about starting Monday. Does this mean that he will engage the filibuster Monday and then later Monday they will vote on whether to cut off Kerry/Kennedy. Very interesting. And, those Democrats who vote to stop their fellow democrats from talking, I say :rant1:
i can’t get through to difi’s or boxer’s offices….
RE #118, Reid HAS NOT Made a Desision, yet:!:
E-MAIL/CALL:!: …no matter what Scotty MCTOXIC or anyone States:!: But recv’n feedback is very crucial:!:
Here’s what i wrote to senator reid (thx to pj for half of the wording in the email):
Well, apparently Reid and Frist worked out a deal to end the senate session just now and convene on Monday morning at 10:00 AM. and continue alternating between democrats and republicans every hour until the cloture vote at 4:30pm. Where does that leave us? I’ve gotta say Kerry made a good speech and brought up issues that if the american people were familiar with them they would be convinced that Alito is not right for America. Ex, strip search of 10 year old girl, shooting an unarmed 8th grader in the back of the head, all white jurors, etc. That’s why continuing to talk on these issues is important.
fred, HOW CAN I LET IT BE KNOWN THAT THESE BIAS’D LIARS ARE LYING (cuz they are with RUTGERS (sp)–Bias’d Liars:!:)

As with many things, it’s fairly easy to do, if you know how. But then, it’s not a nice thing to do, and is, in fact, illegal under the CAN-SPAM act of 2003.
Then there’s that whole Guantánamo thing.
What does everyone think of this? In his speech Kerry didn’t indicate he thought it was over. I think the cloture vote is going to be a weasel way out for a lot of democrats.:rant1:
Reid admits Democrats can’t block Alito
Fri Jan 27, 2006 11:27 AM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid admitted on Friday he and fellow Democrats lack the votes to block President George W. Bush’s nomination of conservative appeals judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court.
“Everyone knows there is not enough votes to support a filibuster,” Reid said, referring to the procedural roadblock that some Democrats said should be used to put off a vote on Alito.
The Nevada Democrat said, however, he would vote for such a measure to at least send a message of opposition to the nominee. That vote will come on Monday with final confirmation set for Tuesday.
“I think it is an opportunity for people to express their opinion as to what a bad choice it was to replace (retiring Justice) Sandra Day O’Connor” with Alito, Reid told reporters after a speech at a Washington hotel.
Alito, a federal appeals judge since 1990, could push the nine-member high court to the right. O’Connor, a moderate conservative, often has been the swing vote on the court on abortion, civil rights and other social issues
Damnitall! :rant1::rant1::rant1:
From the CQ midday update I just got:
Conrad Joins Democrats Ruling Out Filibuster of Alito
Sen. Kent Conrad of North Dakota today joined a growing list of Democrats who have said publicly they will not support a filibuster of Supreme Court nominee Samuel A. Alito Jr.
After meeting with Alito this morning, Conrad said a last-ditch effort by Massachusetts Democrats Edward M. Kennedy and John Kerry to block Alito’s confirmation is unwarranted and is likely to fail.
“I have concluded I cannot justify a filibuster in this case,” Conrad said.
Conrad also said he felt “more favorably disposed toward” Alito after his meeting. He said the nominee “looked me straight in the eye and said ‘I do not bring an ideological agenda to the bench.’ ”
Conrad did not say whether he will vote to confirm Alito. He is expected to announce his decision to his constituents rather than on the Senate floor.
The Senate will vote at 4:30 p.m. Monday on a motion to limit debate on the Alito nomination; 60 votes are needed. If cloture is invoked, as expected, the confirmation vote will begin at 11 a.m. Jan. 31.
I’m getting discouraged 🙁
Did you see this SOTU parody? :rofl2:
But, I feel I owe to Kerry to continue contacting senators and telling them what I think of a yes vote on cloture. Now that Kerry stepped forward like we wanted I can’t give up now. (I’m giving a pep talk to myself).
Isi, Don’t — I just talked to Reid’s office near at 10:51amPST and they swore he has made “zero” decision. CALL/EMAIL to continue letting them know your views,
PLS RUDGERS IS ON THE EXTREME RETHUG SIDE:!:
BUZZFLASH, THRU RUDGERS, ARE LYING:!::!::!:

ISI, it’s not just Kerry who’s stepped forward, also Kennedy and Clinton. I can’t believe I’m trying to give you a pep talk when for days now you’ve been the one who’s been encouraging me to do more than I thought I could ever do on this issue.
Foggyblue…CLINTON? She said she’d vote no but has she said she’ll support a filibuster?
No matter what Scotty MCtOXIC is saying — HE’s LYING:!: ………..:fire:
Yes (look at #’s 101 and 103 above).
Thanks druid and foggy. I think my mood changed when they had very limited debate today. There really was no reason why they couldn’t have gotten all the speeches on the record today to know where everyone stood at least on the no/yes vote. It feels like a way to keep us at arms length. I don’t see Harry Reid stepping up to the plate and supporting Kerry/Kennedy/Clinton.
oh. i thought it might be like “private number” on caller id on a telephone.
Reid has already said that he will vote with the filibuster, but that there aren’t 41 votes. That means that there needs to be some major arm twisting over the weekend. What I really have a problem with, is these so-called democrats publicly taking a pro-Alito or anti-filibuster stance before the vote. They should have at the very least been directed to keep their yaps shut until Tuesday.
dems need a tom delay (albeit less crooked) who can strong arm the confirmation votes. this is crazy to not have party unity on such an important matter. why support the dnc if their fundamental principles are not upheld by the us senators? for pitty sake….:billcat:
I guess my plan now is to compose a letter re: alito and the democratic party and e-mail it to every democrat over the weekend.
U.S. Army using women as bait in Iraq
U.S. military documents show that the Army “at least twice seized and jailed the wives of suspected insurgents in hopes of ‘leveraging’ their husbands into surrender.” In one case, an Army task force held the mother of a nursing baby for two days in order to lure her husband into custody.
Truly, shameful and ignominious. Should win a lot of hearts and minds with that tactic.
so we have kerry, kennedy, clinton and reid supporting a filibuster?
and a whole entire weekend to arm twist?
this is actually the most hopeful i’ve been all week.
pjsauter #148 regarding the US using women to lure…

what’s wrong with having a strategy of shaming the dems who haven’t decided to support the filibuster, and telling them that they will look will look weak republican collaborationists if they don’t join the filibuster led by the leaders of their own democratic party, kerry, kennedy, clinton and reid.
i think they know the issues now. we don’t really have to convince the wavering dems on the issues any more, do we?
I have no idea what drives these people. Do they think they’ll look more centrist? Do they want a bike ride with dubya? Are they cutting deals with Republicans to get some pet legislation or pork through? Are they just plain wimpyass losers?
They need to be made to see that there’s a political price to be paid for NOT supporting the filibuster. I don’t know what you can do to put the screws to an old bastid like Byrd, but they ought to be able to twist a few other arms.
feinstein supports the filibuster and will vote no on cloture.

my recollection of how the repubs behaved when they were out of power is that they put up a fight on everything and didn’t care if they lost the fight. whenever they did lose, they used the loss to advance their outrageous ideology.
americans got the notion that the repubs were real fighters willing to stand up for what they believed even in the face of defeat.
i’m so bewildered by the dem’s notion that they have to “pick their fights” and have to win or else they won’t fight at all.

Just got this email from Progressive Democrats for America: 1/27/06
We apologize for overwhelming you with emails concerning the Alito nomination over the past 48 hours. If the stakes were not so high we would never have done so. But the battle over the confirmation of Samuel Alito to serve as a life long justice on the U.S. Supreme Court is no ordinary matter, and we in PDA are concerned that if Alito is appointed to the Supreme Court it will compromise the progressive movement and the liberties of every American for decades. In such circumstances we can hold nothing back. The vote on Alito is very close. We need 41 senators to oppose the cloture efforts that are sure to come in response to Kerry’s filibuster. If we have 41 senators, Alito’s nomination will be defeated and the next nominee will not be as extreme. Even though the odds are long, and confirmation of Alito will be very painful, just think how sweet and transforming the defeat of his nomination will be.
Time is short, the stakes are remarkably high, and this is a rare opportunity for all PDA progressive activists to fill out one simple form, press the send button, and have 60,000 emails opposing the Alito nomination sent to 12 key senators automatically, including Obama, Lieberman, and Feinstein To do so, please click here http://www.SaveTheCourt.org/AlitoFilibuster.
Then forward this email to anyone you know who is worried that Alito would condone the abuse of power by the president, vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, and help curtail Congress’ ability to protect the civil rights, health, safety, and welfare of the American people for years to come.
We must stand together and act now to prevent Senate Republicans from ramming this nomination through. Time is of the essence. Please help now by clicking on http://www.SaveTheCourt.org/AlitoFilibuster.
Our actions are our only true belongings. They are the ground on which we stand.
Thank you.
In hope, in peace, and in struggle,

Great news on Feinstein (and Boxer, but I expect more out of Boxer). Now somebody needs to go smack Ben Nelson and some of these other limp dicks (no, we can not have a limp dick smilie) around. Keep up the calling and e-mailing. I really think it turned Hillary around (quick, too; I’ll give her credit for that).
I don’t understand this “gotta pick your battles” nonsense. Yeah? So fucking pick one already!
Yeah, the pick your battles tactic is for those that are already in power. When your the underdog you gotta fight everything, win or lose. I heard Kent Conrad on Shultz’s show. Seems he knows Alito’s heart since he looked him straight in the eye and said I am not an idealogue. How many people admit or are even aware that they are an idealogue??:fustrate:
Randi has just picked me up bigtime! She had an emotional and eloquent first segment this hour calling on democrats to stand on the moral highground. “You have the moral highground, stand on it.” She said, “I don’t care what you’ve been threatened with” (by the republicans), this is a historical moment and we have to do the right thing.
TURN IT UP!:nixon:
How is Schultz shaking out on the filibuster? “We just don’t have the votes for it, folks.” Is that it? “We have got to pick our battles. This is a democracy, you know. At least it was the last time I checked.”:sheep::sheep::mad:
The M$M is beginning to spin almost uncontrollably as we head into the 2006 election year. Between Russert and Couric and FAUX about the only place one can go for a resemblance of the actual news is the web or PBS. Unfortunately the stupids get most of their info from the big three. Think about ways to get the M$M in line before they drill themselves into the ground and the dems fall into the hole.
What the hell is up with Wyden, Cantwell, and Murray? Wyden we know is spineless but Cantwell and Murray are usually loudmouthed broads with spines and spunk.
Anyhow, here’s today’s recipe. I sent it to Jim along with a spam fried rice recipe and a beef fried rice one so he could choose. It went along with the chocolate. Healthy recipes with chocolate. I think it makes sense, don’t you?
Vegetarian Hawaiian Fried Rice
Serves 12
1/2 teaspoon dark sesame oil
Canola oil
1 lb firm tofu, diced
1 medium red onion, finely chopped
1 small red bell pepper, finely chopped
1 small yellow bell pepper, fine chopped
1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
1 medium carrot, finely chopped
5 cups cooked jasmine rice
2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 tablespoon sambal oelek
1 cup diced pineapples
1/2 cup macadamia nuts, coarsely chopped
salt and pepper, to taste
Cook the rice the day before.
Heat a wok to medium-high and add sesame oil. Saute the tofu cubes, set aside. Add a little canola oil to the wok, add the onion, carrot and bell peppers. Stir fry a few minutes. Add the cooked rice and continue to stir fry, break up the lumps. Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce and sambal oelek. Continue to stir-fry, adding the pineapple, macadamia nuts, and salt and pepper (to taste).
I think you know my position on Schultz.. send a message to your local station and tell them to take him off the air.
Randi just said that the democrats will be looking for 41 votes this weekend and that we need to give them the conviction of the american people through emails, calls, etc.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., told KGW Thursday that he would support an effort by fellow Sens. John Kerry and Edward Kennedy, both D-Mass., to filibuster the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Speaking of Schultz. One thing he is good for is mobilizing people to contact their elected officials. At least he did so during last year’s efforts to recount the gubernatorial vote in Washington State. He was up front about it. “You people complain that you feel powerless. Well, there you are.”
Although I was being sarcastic above, I don’t know Ed Schultz’s position on the FILIBUSTER. But If he were on board…:omg:
Speaking of Oregon senators, has Gordon Smith been getting his mailbox filled by concerned citizens?
Damn, isi, you’d think someone other than KGW and a small sidebar in the Oregonian woulda covered that. Wyden has a backbone? Whooda thunk it?
Olympia Community Stand Up to Nazis
by Peter Bohmer; January 25, 2006
On Sunday, January 21st, 150 to 200 people rallied at Noon by the Texaco gas station on the Eastside of Olympia, Washington near where the National Socialist Movement, an openly Nazi organization was supposed to rally. When they didn’t appear, we left at 12:45 to head to Sylvester Park where an anti-racist, anti-Nazi rally had been planned.
On the march downtown, we heard that the Nazis were rallying outside the Olympian, the main newspaper in Olympia. We headed to the Olympian and arrived there at the same time as the eight members of the National Socialist Movement. There were seven men and one women, they were wearing swastikas, had Nazi flags and most of them were dressed in storm trooper uniforms. They were lead by one of their national leaders, Justin Boyer.
The Olympia police stationed themselves between the eight Nazis and our protest. We outnumbered them by many times. The small numbers of the Nazis and their inability to go beyond slogans of racist hate showed their weakness. We did not attempt to charge and attack this small group of Nazis, rather we drowned out their racist hate. The Nazis called for white power, for six million more Jews to be killed; they constantly did “Sig Heil’s”. A woman who spoke to the Nazi leader at the protest said that their main focus was a vicious anti-immigrant call against immigrants and their claim the borders were being overrun, somewhat similar to the Minuteman.
We yelled backed at the Nazis, “one race, the human race”; “Nazis, Nazis, you can’t hide, we charge you with genocide”, “Nazis, out of Olympia, out of the world”, We are all Jews, We are all Blacks”, “Immigrant Rights, Yes; Nazis, No”!, and many other anti-racist and inclusive chants.
By 2:00 P.M., the police asked us to open a path so that the Nazis could leave Olympia. We did not try to block the departure of these eight Nazis, although we made it clear they were not welcome in Olympia or anywhere. Because of our large and strong presence, the Nazis cancelled their planned march and they quickly left Olympia. The Nazis announced they were returning to Olympia, to the Capital this July 22nd. Let us be there in larger numbers if they show up.
Our aim today was not to dialogue with the Nazis but rather to make it clear and visible by our action that racism and racial, homophobic, anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant hatred will not be permitted. It was a very powerful protest that came together on very short notice and I want to thank everyone who worked on this, who stood up to the Nazis, and made our actions a statement against fascism and white supremacy. . .

Wyden gets grilled by Hartman each week.. He would be in deep kaka with the city of Portland if he didn’t support the filibuster.

Me too. I stayed to work a couple of hours of overtime today, so Randi stayed in my headset longer than usual. The perfect antidote to Franken’s wishy-washiness.
No matter how discouraged you are with John Kerry, and I was extremely discouraged with him post-election, at least I give him credit for beating the drum on this one. Hopefully if we keep it up over the weekend, and he and Kennedy can twist some more arms, maybe we can actually pull this off.
Bill Nelson will be hearing from me this weekend. Maybe some other senators too… we need to push Maria Cantwell off that fence and get her feet on the ground where they belong.

Flippety-Floppety
Hmmm. Back in 2004, John Kerry said the United States should deal with Iran by having the international community offer Iran nuclear fuel to be used in a peaceful nuclear energy program.
The Bushies? No way, dude. That would be appeasement. Condi Rice said:
Frank Gaffney Jr. (former Pentagon official and Bush crony), blasted Kerry’s plan in an op-ed entitled, “Kerry’s Nuclear Nonsense.”
The National Review ran an item calling Kerry’s proposal “ignorant” and “dangerously wrong.”
Now? Well, let’s just say Bush was against that plan before he was for it. At a news conference yesterday, dubya said:
I just can’t wait to read the National Review op-ed calling Bush “ignorant” and “dangerously wrong.”
Ben Nelson (D-NE)
Ken Salazar (D-CO)
Sam Seder: Both of these Senators are taking tallies on whether they should filibuster.
http://www.nocrony.com
http://www.senate.gov
I was listening to Schultz today and he said he supports a filibuster but he aint being very optimistic about it. He wasn’t calling for people to call their senators, he seems to have given up on it and he had the same “pick your battles” attitude. I will write Nelson and Salazar this weekend. Has Byrd changed his mind does anyone know? And should I even bother with McCain and Kyl or should I focus on the Dems?
When you order Marc’s cd from him does he get all or most of the money?:sammy:
IMHO, you should go with the Dems – the ones who are anti-filibuster but voting no to start with, then the assholes voting yes – first, but, what the hell, if you have a second to try and call, fax, or e-mail your own Senators, why not?
As for Byrd, I don’t know what’s up with him. Maybe the Republicans told him if he votes yes, mining safety reforms will be put on the agenda, and if he votes no, they’ll never see the light of day. I have to beleive it’s shit like that that goes on with these people. Same with Landrieu in LA. They must have told her, support a filibuster, and NO will never see a dime.
RE: Marc’s CD, the transacton was PayPal, so I reckon he probably gets everything but what PayPal charges for the transaction, and then shipping (it was $14 total, which is pretty reasonable), less whatever he paid per CD. I assume he gets a better cut than if you buy it from Amazon or somebody else, but I don’t really know (so perhaps I shouldn’t venture a guess).
Gotta go back to class, later.:jerk:
PJ depending on what booklet he chose and what case (paper or plastic) and the art costs and how many he ordered, it can be as little as $2 per CD or as much as $6, depending on how indy he did it.
The more of them you get the cheaper it is….but that is like 5,000-10,000…and if a record company is doing it then its a whole different story.
I hope hes making maximum buckage on this thing. I hate to think that AAR has them out there tyring to produce a show on a shoestring when it may be the most interesting show on the network when all is said and done (but of course there is the new priestly religious show on the weekends….Ill stick with Rapture Watch if Jim will still do that!)
My guess is that Marc is more interested in getting his material out there, and isn’t trying to make a fortune. Certainly, nobody’s getting rich at $14 a CD (with shipping).
And, yeah, AAR is giving him a shit budget, and then has the audacity to tout the show as being on their premium service, after having given him the boot in the first place.
I am so confused re all they (AAR) wants re Marc :fustrate:– “ILLOGICAL.” “Does Not Compute:!:”

Oh, my:!: 😥 — that’s what I was TRYING To Make Funny = (MY)Lead Balloon Humour. I still miss my wild. — But most cats in wild have to VERY AWARE or they be a snack. Thats just LIFE/DEATH in the WILD — as cars are to “strays” in “the streets”. I only have a zillion of cats and :billcat: now cuz of the inhumanities IN TOWN = Mega Srays (dogs, cats, and rats :).
Don’t know if I made any sense this time either :wink: ….:fire:
My new Maron CD did not come with notes. I ordered it from some comedy clearinghouse. Fast delivery. $16.23 total.
I have had a crazy day and couldn’t even read the blog until tonight. I did my alito work late last night (emails and faxes), and want to figure out my strategy for the weekend. I guess faxing and emails are the only recourse during non-business hours.
as I read, I kept having dreams about thousands and thousands of people pouring out into the streets and converging on washington and calling for a filibuster. :rant1::rant1::rant1::rant1::rant1::rant1:god, I wish it could start happening….
