Well, dagnab it. Damned if I didn’t stay up and listen to almost the whole freaking show last night (finally gave it up at about 2:30). It’s gonna be one long frickin’ day for me, as I sleepwalk through a presentation, and then try not to flunk a midterm too badly. Well, what the hell. My only regret is that KTLK’s 877 number wouldn’t let me call form my area code. I really wanted to say hello.
hey pj!! you’re super human!!:fist:
you stayed up to listen to the show and still you made a new thread!!
i have a feeling that the blog is going to be kinda lonely this morning though.
break a leg on your midterm PJ!!! got ’em!!:banana:
what?? Bush went to Afghanistan???
ha! he cut the ribbon at the new US Embassy there….which will probably be bombed within the week.
Idiot!!:fu:
Hey, PJ: I did all the settings right, but the file came down in a format M4B — which is something only RealPlayer can handle.
Any idea what the problem could be?
(I see they’ve abandoned you already. Nice frickin’ guys.)
Hey, Brilliant, who are you referring to?”They”? I think the only person abandoning anybody is Marc not uttering a freakin’ syllable about this little boat and it’s freakin’ captain. Most of the crew are wiped out and I think that’s why “they” aren’t here. I’m not really in a good mood, so I’ll just fall asleep now-hopefully not on the deck.
morning brilliant and trav!!
i’m here…..i’ve been here…..doing nothing basically:40::yawn:
I set up my Replay AV to record the main AAR stream. Now all I have is Sam Seder doing Franken’s show!
Lack Of Sleep pjsauter : You are brillant and a SciFi/Fan thus Can Do It All, plus you are Irish, if I remember correctly — need I say more?
Top O’ the Morn’ to you and other MSists:banana:
:fist:
ARREST:!:(format by KevinM)
IMPEACH:!:
VIGILANCE:!:
:fire::!:
Hello, Quietgirland Beemer! In my little tantrum I hit the sleep button on my computer (I actually did fall asleep on the deck:doh:) Hey, I’ll check out that article you posted later. Seems like the WH is trying to boost the poll ratings. I think it will just have a negative affect. Who knows? :sheep:le are insane
Mornin/evening everybody! :fire:
I think we need to make this the official blog for the show. Going back and forth between the two blogs was maddening! It was pretty amazing though. I felt like I was in a mosh pit at a fugazi concert! :fustrate::doh:
Hey, what’s up! :40:
Hey buddy! So what was the official count on comments on both sites? Had to been alot! I need a copy of the show, I was only able to listen to the first hour! 😡
I’m with ya buddy! :40::alc:
haha hey jason!!:nixon:
yeah, the blog on Maron’s site was pretty cramped. that’s why i just came over here for most of the show.
you know, plus i missed talking through smileys:doh:
oh if only i could do that face to face!!:40:
Something like 300 on marc’s blog and maybe something like 450 here. I’m not sure though, I didn’t fact check
:fist:
ARREST (format by KevinM)
IMPEACH
VIGILANCE
OK, I see what I did wrong. I set the conversion to AAC format, which you CANNOT PLAY ON A PC or on anything else (maybe an iPOD?).
Can anyone tell me how to subscribe to the podcast? God, I had no idea just how ignorant I am of these things. And I am supposed to be a systems professional. Oy oy oy. :omg:
Hey QG, yeah the other blog was cramped and not nearly as fun as this one! :fire:
brilliant you should be able to convert the acc file to whatever you want, like an aiff or mp3
Brilliant check out this site
yup yup……:alc:
it’s better over here:banana:
There are probably some free programs around somewhere…
:peace:
i couldn’t stay up but I’m podcasting NOW!
What a way to wake up: Good evening philosopher kings and queens….:!:
Man, I’m gonna have to get AAR premium aren’t I? Man this sux!:mad::omg: Oh well, I need my Maron! :40:
farmerkat! Hope you like the show. I think there’s no other place for it to go besides up!
Hey, I’m getting really tired:doh:
Mornin’ Farmerkat! :fire:
I’m not even making sense anymore. I’ll just lurk for a little bit and then hit the hay. OK
I think you’re making sense man! :paranoid:
But what’s all this nonsense about going up?
I’m going to try to call in on Thursdays show and then again with my students on Fridays show….
I heard that people weren’t getting through because they didn’t live in cali, but that doesn’t add up because some guy called from Onartio …um, I mean
ONTARIO
I think you were talking about the show! I saw on yesterdays thread where you said you weren’t really all that thrilled with the new show. So, from that you think that the direction of the show can only go up! You see, I get it!
Yeah Jason-i’m right there with you…I’m gonna break down and get premium eventually I suspect! I don’t get off work until 4 so i’ll miss the first hour a lot…thankfully tomorrow is the LAST day of classes for the year! Graduation was today! I hope they don’t mind me sitting in the silent teacher’s room laughing every few minutes.
Did anyone from the blog get through? :sammy:
Run on sentences are great, aren’t they:doh::banana:
Gaijinda: Congrats on graduation! Way to go. Yeah, I need Maron in the old spot. In the evening when I get home….
Travis: The only reason to exist is for run on sentences
morning jason, trav and all! i’m listening to mort!
i have the BIGGEST smile on at the moment… don’t worry trav, they’ll hit their evening stride. it’s gotta be different from the am. I LOVE it and Earl should stay away from guitars!
Ah, cool, good. Um…Lurker mode:peace:
Man, Farmerkat, you’re really making me want to take the leap and get the premium tonight! :blech:
i’m so glad I got it since my recorder seems to work intermittently…this sure beats rachael in the a.m.!
So you have to get premium. You can’t just get Maron’s podcast? What’s the invitation thingy on the AAR subscriber sign up?
Wait, wait….Let’s rock before I crash…JIMI! Good stuff, good stuff
:fist:
no, I think you can just order the maron podcast. but when i looked at the price, I decided to go for the whole enchilada as I love Ring of Fire and don’t always get a chance to listen to it. Sometimes I like to listen to Malloy, too, but he gets me all riled up and angry so I have to take him in small doses! :billcat:
travis….there’s an ontario in california….i think i’ll try to call on friday :nixon::banana:
WOW. I’m stupid! I was thinking Canada the whole time. :bong:Hmmm, bacon
mmmmm…bacon.
it’s cool, how were you suppose to know? :40:
I can’t use marc’s blog – it won’t print my comments – only the subject line. :rant1:
it’s much more cozy here, anyway :gate:
yeah, i think i like this blog better. i might post a few things on his site, but i’ll use this one mainly.:love:
I’ve been having the same problem Farmerkat….besides, PJ was nice enough to track down my torii gate-I can’t desert him now! 😛
:gate::gate::gate::gate::gate::gate::gate::gate:
DUDE…that’s Sean from the blog! 🙂 Remember he posted a few days ago that he’d called in about penguin! YAY! Bloggers!!! :nixon:
But remember, don’t eat penguin!
Absolutely, Gaijinda!
I like Rachel Maddow:love:
Ample capital:omg:
“pull this Camry over and homestead”
okay folks. Farmerkat with all your talk I just made the leap and signed up for the premium. Only for the Maron show though. I’m surprised they have Malloy up there. That’s not fair. What if somebody really likes Malloy and they don’t know about the White Rose Society where you can download his shows for free?
Trav. I thought you were in lurker mode. :sammy:
Don’t you know that is Tom T’s job! :gate:
Did Nicki ever show up on the blog during the show?
Where’s Nicki? :omg:
Ooops. I’ll join the others now.
do i get a commission:?:
ofcourse Farmerkat! :nod::peace:
Morning, Philosopher Kings & Queens!
Listening to the broadcast with my coffee. Sweet!
But I’m out of practice listening and blogging . . . also, on the laptop it’s not as easy as on the desktop. (No proper mouse.)
But wanted to address the Ontario thing. I think there’s an Ontario, California. I’ve seen it on the jetblue site.
Yaaaaay! The funny! The smart! They’re baaa-aaack!!!
:banana::banana::banana:
whoa, wait…i wasn’t listening to Rachel’s show.
did Sean’s call go through??
look, if everyone lurks no one is going to post. What fun is that? Dang, my arm fell asleep. It hurts…man
Kahn!!!! we already cleared that little issue up! That mistake is never going to leave me, is it?
Hey I just joined the premium so where do I access last nights show? I don’t see it?
Yeah, there is an Ontario, CA.
But up the coast in San Francisco there is movement on the political front, according to the Chronicle. Read all about it here.
Travis, your secret is safe with me. There’s still time for me to edit that post so I can redact if you like!
we’re cool, Kahn :alc: It’s all good:yawn:
No worries I got it…:sheep:
Awwww that’s more like it! Maron….:fire:
Hey, man, I kinda take offense to the term :drunk prospector” But, hey, I’m not even part of the Air America Radio logo, even if I am part of America. You know, everyone always forgets Alaska! Yeah, Alaska and that other place… the one that’s warm all the time…nevermind…I forget:doh:
yeah quietgirl-his question about the taste of penguins was today’s Ask Dr. Maddow question!
aww man…now I’m contemplating the membership!
here’s the address for the aar podcast for maron’s show (to put in your software)
http://premium.airamericaradio.com/podcast.php?pid=16
Melina,
I found Coco’s cousin…check it:rofl2:
instructions for itunes/podcast is here
hey nc!
Thanks for the info Farmerkat! Yep Gaijinda…better get it…:fire::gate:
rachel has a theater group…….morning sediton theater player????
ah, marc even had a neurotic moment….mornings, coffee, maron, earl… my day can officially begin! and :sammy: tonight!
gaijinda – are you using safari? wondering if that’s the problem on marc’s blog (not that i’m leaving here).
nc => IMPEACH
yep rippin’ off Morning Sedition….what a shame!
Thanks again farmerkat…I so prefer the itunes mp3 to real player! :fist:
Folk Implosion!
sorry…that was the opening drum loop they were playin’ on the Maddow show…from a group called Folk Implosion…a great band…
Yaaaaaaaay!
Coffee & Maron–together again!
Ha Kahn! I’m exactly the opposite! For me it’s Maron and :40: together again. My coffee is drank with Malloy…:rofl2:
yeah Farmerkat…I am using Safari…I’ve suspected for a while that Safari is a problem causer. Hmm….I’ll read marc’s blog, but I’m still posting over here. I like the smileys.
:rabbi::rabbi::rabbi::bow::rabbi::rofl2::nixon:
Bush isn’t a liberal, he’s a lunatic! :rant1:
I’m torn…I’d like everyone from Maron’s blog to come over here but I still want alot of comments for Maron’s blog. We should have somebody whose job it is to just copy and paste everything from here and post it on Maron’s blog! No, thats stupid…:40:
Nicki! :omg: Did you hear the new Maron show:?:
Good morning everyone! Im listening to the funny!! Very good.
I am perfectly happy with it so far.
It will develop, Im sure, and continue to grow.
I dont want an overt comedy show…it is something where youre driving round and you just find yourself laughing. If Im sitting here waiting to laugh I wont.
I love Jim’s songs!
PJ…you are incredible! Maybe your wife can set up a vitamin IV for you or something! These days are why god made Starbucks!
If you can still think or type at all let us know how you did when you get back.
Did AAR really not stream the show live? I though they were going to…why wouldnt they set up a stream off of KTLK’s anyway?
Why further anger the mob? So many people over there last night semed to think that the podcasting was gonna be free…ha!
Thanks for the info, Jason! But I decided to just record it again. Now I’m glad I shelled out the $$$ for premium.
I have a short review of day one on my blog today…check it out.
Hey there everyone. SO how did everyone’s players work out? I want to know that Marc is going webcam before I buy premium service. Maybe we should start demanding that from AAR. I don’t know that they will unless pushed.
yeah brilliant, I just bought the premium tonight. Free from any recording problems…thank :priest::sdavid::menorah::gate::yinyang:
Krista: Do you think you’ll be able to download the webcam meaning will they archive that as well?
:ear:
Hi Melina! Didn’t mean to leave you out…:fist:
Good to hear Nicki, I take it you heard it then…:peace:
Jason–
Coffee with Malloy sounds a little deadly to me–I think my head would explode!
[rabbi:]
I should hope so Jason, Young Turks do it I think.
You mean you can download archived webcams? I ask because I won’t be here most of the time to see the live webcam….
yep….coffee and Malloy, an ironing board, iron, and my dress shirt…that’s how I start my day…oh and a face that looks like this: 😡
I wrote to Kathy and Mike one time and asked if Kathy would say just once, “Start your day screaming”, but it never happened….
Mr. Jones Soda Co. says, “You are heading for a land of sunshine and fun”:40: Sure, OK…I’m outa here:rant1:
You know Jason…I am always chronically “just on time” to work…maybe I’ll turn on Mike as soon as my alarm goes off in the morning…never thought of that before. Helluva way to wake up! 😯
Hey Nicki, did you get the discs?
“I don’t get it big Dan.” – Anybody know the movie I refer to?
😮
The Samarra Bombing and its Aftermath: A New Face on the Civil War?
UFPJ Talking Points #38
by Phyllis Bennis and Erik Leaver; Institute for Policy Studies; February 28, 2006
· It remains unclear who was responsible for the attack on the golden-domed Askariya Shi’a mosque in Samarra. In the two days following the bombing over 200 Iraqis were killed, and the country was put under a day-and-night curfew.
· The spike in sectarian violence does not reflect a sudden danger of civil war. Rather, if it continues to escalate it may lead to a shift from the existing low-intensity political civil war between supporters (reluctant or not) of the U.S. occupation and opponents of that occupation, to a civil war identified largely along sectarian lines.
· The bombing and the spike in violence afterwards provides the latest proof of the failure of the U.S. military occupation to bring security, let alone “democracy,” to the people of Iraq. The declared U.S. strategy of training an Iraqi counter-insurgency military force to replace U.S. and “coalition” troops (not to mention the U.S. effort to enforce “security” in Samarra by surrounding it with a huge earthen wall) is a failure. A Congressional decision to pass the administration’s latest supplemental spending bill authorizing about $62 billion for the Iraq war (especially for training Iraqi troops) would represent a complete acquiescence to this utterly failed policy.
· The presence of U.S. occupation troops in Iraq remains an aggravating provocation to all sides and continues to foment more violence. In recent polls 82% of all Iraqis want an end to the U.S. occupation; 47% of all Iraqis support attacks on U.S. troops. Much of the popular anger following the bombing of the Askariya shrine, among both Sunni and Shi’a, targeted the U.S. occupation. Shi’a cleric and militia leader Moqtada al Sadr, speaking on al Jazeera television, called on the new Iraqi parliament, which includes 32 of his followers, to vote on a request for “coalition” forces to leave Iraq.
· The undemocratic political process imposed by the U.S. occupation has exacerbated sectarian divisions in Iraq, a country with a long history (despite ethnic and sectarian tensions) of secularism and strong national identity. Negotiations over creation of a new Iraqi government have now collapsed, as has any potential interest in eliminating sectarian militias or bringing them under government control.
· U.S. military officials and the Bush administration are all eager to deny that this escalation heralds a “civil war” in Iraq because that would undermine their claim that only the presence of U.S. troops is preventing such a civil war. A top U.S. general said “we’re not seeing civil war igniting. We’re seeing a capable Iraqi government using their capable forces.” President Bush said it was not a civil war, and claimed those responsible for the Samarra bombing were “not internal” to Iraq, but were those from outside who were “trying to stop the advance of freedom” in Iraq. Britain’s Tony Blair, similarly, denied this was a civil war, but rather “democracy versus extremism and terrorism.” Congressman John Murtha, who has called for U.S. troops to be withdrawn from Iraq, said it is a civil war, and that “our troops are caught in between.”
· While the Askariya bombing has engendered a serious escalation in sectarian divisions and violence, and some sectarian militias seem to be gaining renewed power, there have also been significant cross-sectoral, unitary and secular responses. Influential religious leaders have called for calm, while urging their followers into the streets to protest the violence. In largely Shi’a Basra, for example, a large joint Sunni-Shi’a protest called for defending Iraqi national unity, opposing sectarian violence, and an end to the U.S. occupation, chanting “No to America.”
· This is a new moment. U.S. and global anti-war forces should respond to the latest escalation of violence in Iraq with renewed energy for demanding an end to the occupation and bringing all the troops home now. The deteriorating conditions in Iraq and escalation in Iraqi deaths, along with the approaching third year anniversary of the U.S. invasion and especially the current congressional debate over the new multi-billion dollar supplemental spending bill, require new urgency for mobilization, education and advocacy on local, national and international levels. While incremental U.S. troop withdrawals may be announced soon after the current spike in violence subsides, we must be very clear that partial withdrawals (even if large scale) are not sufficient. Rather, our priority demand must be for a complete end to the occupation including withdrawal of all U.S. and “coalition” troops as well as foreign mercenaries, plus the closing of all U.S. military bases in Iraq.

Well, my question is, shouldt they then make the webcam stuff able to go into the ipod video?…not that its so thrilling to watch a video of someone sitting there and talking into a mic….and I think it take away from the characters to see the guys do em …except for maybe at a live show….
Maybe because I come from a radio drama background and was always in the booth watching, I just find it more interesting to just listen and use my imagination (Oh god, Im becomming the older generation in my family!)
Having always been in production I find that film, TV, radio, everything sort of loses its allure if youre behind the scenes…but at the same time I sorta like the Turks….
Hey, Kat de Farmer. Et al and all, y’all. Howdy.
Was the show good? I was asleep and the AAR Premium thingy won’t let me in. Says everything from my name is being used by someone else and my password is passed out. Funny thing, it worked yesterday. If I am not me today I hope I am doing better than I am doing. Somehow there is a butterfly effecting me in there somewhere.
No, you’re right Melina. Just like a book being better than a movie adaptation. Since we DO have to pay for radio now, for the customers that are paying it would be an added bonus if they did some special video things every now and then…
Really NC? That sucks! Better catch that butterfly! 😉 I only heard the first hour. That was good! I’m getting ready to listen to the rest…
Hey- anyone who is having trouble with files recording too big should first look all through their program to make sure that the “convert to MP3” buttons are checked…and if youre on a program that doesnt do that just put the file extension and MP3 and conversion into google and they will pop up all sorts of converters…lots of free ones or ones you can try. I have done that with all sorts of file types. Remember what PJ sez: Google is your friend!!
Its easy to convert and then delete the huge file.
My Replay isnt even saving a Real file anymore…its all MP3 and right into iTunes.
I love the replay but of course it relys on the electricity and cable…and, as we have snow coming tonight but IM not sure how much because I didnt even turn on the news before I started Marc’s show this morning and in iTunes that went right into Jeaneane from last night…which will go right into Sam as Al from yesterday….so I can always expect some sort of outtage. Some day when Ive got an extra 5-15 grand maybe I will buy a proper generator. We lose power and cable alot…but there is AAR day pass for that.
If they give me more for the money and act like responsible adults and business people ar AAR I might even subscribe…but there is no reason to.
Next I am gonna figure otu the MP3 editor to see how long it would take to get these commercials and muzak breaks out. Since I can fast forward almost automatically on the iPod (and why isnt there a skipsearch button for that?) at this loint…I can find the end of the break from inside my pocket while grocery shopping…mayeb I can just remove the commercials that easily to….?
👿
alright Seditionists…time for Stephanie. let’s see if she says anything about Marc’s flowers in the studio:doh:
have a good day, or evening, everybody!!:banana::nixon::sammy:
:rabbi::rabbi::rabbi::rabbi::rabbi::peace::jesus:
Isn’t Jim Rome the guy who kept calling Jim Everett “Chris” after (Chris Everett the woman tennis player) and Jim attacked him on TV! I thought Jim Rome was a dick! 😡
Hey Travis- thanks for coco’s cousin…thats a dope sniffing chihuahua…Poor coco is in evening remembrance land, or as us dog people say, at the rainbow bridge, since right before Christmas…But I have 3 others sorta like her but younger….I will have to post pics when I get my site fixed up. That is next….after MP3 editing.
I hope youre asleep Travis…you sounded very tired and let down .
Dont worry, the show will develop. Even in a brand new, raw state, its so much better than anything out there right now…and we have every freakin day to watch this emerge. I just wish it was 3 or 4 hours….;-)
Try to get some rest…tonight is show 2!!
“Fox News Military Analyst” :rofl2: Whatever :spank:
:nixon::peace::jesus::rabbi::rofl2:
So…when is some Right wing fake Christian group gonna buy out KTLK? :fu:
hope they catch that butterfly, nc, that does not sound good.
I enjoyed the show! Marc will settle in and all the parts were there. Relationships take time (& I’m not even a shrink!)
Gotta run, blog warriors.
I love the headlines today….
my Mom has been IMing me since she saw me pop on AIM about how the repugs (she listens to all the disgusting shows so we can know the enemy…better her than me…and it depresses her so much) are all jumping ship now that the whole Dubai Israel thing came out. Jay Severin is going on against it….she calls him a son-of-a-bitch-conservative-the-worst-the worst….he is going on and on…Fox news is saying that this is a big problem and the deal has to be over….Chris Matthews on the Today show quoted Michael Savage in how bad this thing is…We are waiting for Rush at noon….we dont know what O’reilly thinks yet…
watch them scatter like roaches in the light…wouldnt want to be a radical pro palistininan lefty, huh?
Stay away from the brown acid! :omg: It’s Bush world! :sammy:
Oliver North is a freak 😡
Mike Malloy also said a Christian group is trying to buy the AAR Atlanta!!
Okay, blog sibs, here’s the deal. I can’t blog while listening to the stream. That means I can only keep up with one blog. And I had to fall asleep within minutes of the end of the show in order to get up the ungodly early. And to catch up now would mean reading three blogs of over 200 messages each in a half hour. So I just give up.
Did anyone find a place to get an archive of the show? I’ll pay for the podcasts (I’ll bitch but I’ll pay) but it’ll be a month before I have the ready cash to do it. I’m happy to listen to poor quality and ads if that’s what I have to do in the meantime.
There is a skunk in my backyard and I have to go convince Faraday the Fluffy that he doesn’t really NEED to go out right now.
oh – PJ, hope you made it through the day a-ok. We can write you a note to execuse you from your exams if you need one
lj, that’s a bummer (the atl station). like they need more air time around here. :barf:
now CIAO!
Malloy was saying that about Phoenix too! :spank:
1,074 posts for Marc and Jim et al!! :fire::sammy:
That’s the combined number of posts from marcmaron.com and this blog starting yesterday in anticipation of the show up to the present. Tell me, who except Marc could have generated those numbers? 😀
Nobody isi, nobody man! :fire:
I thought the Christian station was going to allow KXXT AAR stay on the air til they found a new frequency but apparently not. The owner, James Crystal, I think, was offered a lot of money for 3 stations KXXT being one of them. I don’t know if Bob Christie, they guy that brought Air America to Phoenix, is continuing the search or not. 😥 This sux so bad. KXXT had some great promo spots and helped populate protests here. They were making a huge difference.:cry:I don’t know what we’ll do for the 2006 elections if we don’t have a radio station.
I loved the firetruck sound during the show!! :fire:
I also loved Proops talking about Bush being bitch slapped for the past two weeks and then unbelievably saying, oh by the way we’re turning our ports over to al qaeda :rofl2:
Do you think we could get everybody over here on this blog? It’s much much better! :billcat:
Krista I don’t know if you listen to Malloy or not…but Malloy was goin’ off on the whole Phoenix issue. Bob Christie wrote a pretty sweet letter regarding the issue..apparently Malloy and Christie are good phone friends…and there were several callers from the Phoenix area as well
During that show I kept thinking of you krista aka ghostgrrrl….:fist:
I’m with you, Jason. I like this blog a whole lot better, plus I don’t want to split the community.
What’s the best way to do that? (Get folks here, not split ’em up.)
***
Gypsy:
I don’t know if the files are too big, but I’ll be happy to send you what I have. (I got most of Marc’s show. For some reason, I got about 10 minutes of Majority Report at the beginning, even though according to the ReplayAV log it started recording promptly at 10pst, and I only got a total of 1hr and 50 minutes–including MR–but the truth is that if I were listening live I wouldn’t have caught every single minute. Okay, maybe I would have on “day 1,” as Marc kept referring to it, but on a daily basis, probably not. Gotta get out of these parens!) I don’t have your e-mail, though.
I do have FTP storage (separate from any e-mail account), so if the files prove too big I’ll see if I can upload there.
yeah gypsy, if you can get on ichat or aol im I can give you a mp3 of the show. let me know…
Kahn: I guess keep reminding everybody that there is an alternative to the AAR blog. This blog is so much better.
Once they’re here they’ll be in the same situation were in…what to do about the aar blog? :omg:
I’m out my lovely seditionists, goodnight
So how does one do the AOL IM MP3 transfer thing?
:rant1: Damn I fell asleep and missed the last 1/2hour of the show last night! I was up way after my bedtime to revel in Marc’s return! :fustrate: I missed MOST of Proops! …and oh no…..I missed….Sammy?!?!?! :omg: :sammy:
I woke up and my bed was filled with . . .
Maron & Earl
:love::love::love:
so I wasn’t able to make replayAV work. every time I tried to do a test, it didn’t work. melina’s instructions were clear and helpful, but there’s just a glitch I haven’t identified….
so I missed marc.
my schedule is too insane to work on this until the weekend. but I’m hoping that at some point I’ll be able to rejoin all of you in enjoying marc.
I’m trying to avoid signing for the AAR service, but if all else fails, I will.
This quote from AAR website is clearly a lie :rant1: but there is no way that I see to contact AAR. I hate to keep bugging the good guys like Jon Sinton and Kreeger. This statement is unequivocally false! And, I apologize for posting it yesterday, because some people missed the beginning of the show because they believed AAR and tried to stream Maron’s show from their site! 😥
“Maron fans can stream live at http://www.airamericaradio.com while his show is on the air”:no::no:
citkahn, jasonwhinney, thanks. I don’t need last night’s but if I make it til 10:30 tonight it’ll amaze me. I’m not on AIM (and I’m not sure what ichat is) but my Yahoo chat ID is peasantwitch and you can email me there at Yahoo (did that make sense) or, better, at Hotmail. If you happen to capture tonight’s show, that would be awesome. I wish there were a way for someone to put them into an archive we could access, but without getting into trouble with AAR.
I can repay people with brownies…
But in the meantime, I have to find a way to stay awake all day today. Worth it. But oy!
Okay, as for The Issues:
What chance do you think this case has in the current Supreme Court?
And I hear they snuck the renewal of the so-called Patriot Act onto the agenda for the Senate today. I fucking HATE these bastards!:fu:
Gypsy…Im trying to figure it out now. Do you know what size attachments you can receive in your email?
Melina, I don’t think I can receive particularly large attachments. Try sending to ms.gyspy AT gmail.com. (Note the misspelling gyspy.) I can get larger attachments there than anywhere else.
Bucking for those brownies, are you?
:bow:There is no blog but Morning Seditionists, and PJ is its prophet. Hope you get some sleep; although I aced some of my hardest classes on virtually zero sleep!
Got the podcast from aar finally. The site is really screwed up; had lots of problems. I finally had to hack the site to download it (I paid the sob’s for it, on the theory that they will keep the show on if people support it, so hacking is OK).
gypsy, I think that the case has a chance, and according to NPR, they said it hinges on Stevens, he could be the swing vote.
gypsy and dlp, check your mail 😉
I’m looking for a way to stream and record the stream so I can play it back at a reasonable hour since the show airs at midnight here in Birmingham, AL. I am surrounded by Bush lovers here in this town. Help me get my Maron fix please. Someone explain how I can record a live stream. And don’t get all teckie on me here. I’m dumb about things like this. I only know that I will not pay $$$ to AAR or XM for the Maron show. I love you Maron. But I’m a poor Liberal. Not a rich Republican!
🙄
 Damn, I’m beat. So, the KTLK stream last night didn’t start Marc until about nine or ten minutes after 10 (or 1 or whatever the hell it was). This turned out to be pretty good, because, while I set the RAV to record the KTLK streaam, I thought I’d listen to the AAR stream live. I thought I might have missed something, but due to the difference, I got to hear it from the beginning. So, while I was capturing the live stream, I was listening to it at the same time (until I went to bed, which was a waste because I was too damn wound up to sleep anyway). So, I was able to extend the record time another ten minutes, to make sure I caught it all.
“Weekly” Remembrance was great. Better now, even, as I listen again. Best line, when talking about the death of Robert Rich: “survived by…his beloved wife, who, like his whipped topping, required little or no prep time, and spread easily.” :rofl2:
Cnick- you can get Replay a/V, but you have to buy it.
Is a great little program and it works. I have simple instructions of how to set it on my blog here
I think I have the libk here to replay too.
Then you can save all sorts of radio, podcasts and conceivably, depending on your computer video and TV….
This is what alot of us have used for a while and we like i.
here is a different one for Mac…and there are free ones. PJ posted a page of freeware but we havent tried them and many dont have timers. That link is back somewhere in yeserday’s blog…or you can wait till PJ has time to post that again…he is very busy today.
PJ you want the first 10 minutes? send me a gmail accoun and maybe Ill trade you….
See is only he kiddies tha can say up all nigh and then go to school and actually function…did you do OK on your stuff?
My T key is broken…damn…its the beginning of the end for this laptop…again…..
So, anybody have any idea what the deal for tonight will be? There’s a Clippers game that starts at 7:30 Pacific. That was the same time as their game Monday night, and the postgame shit went on until about 51 minutes after 10 (or 1 or whatever), when they started the MR replay.
So, I wonder if the Marc show is just gonna get pushed back or what? I’ll have to create another recording to be sure to catch it all.
Thanks Melina, but I got the whole show.
Thanks Melina, I took a look at the Replay page. It’s exclusive to the Windows environment I’d prefer a Mac version. I don’t wish to shell out $$$ if I don’t have to. I did fork over enuf to buy the premiere podcast from AAR. What else could I do? I live in the bastion of conservatism here in Birmingham, Alabama. Sometimes I wonder how I came out so liberal minded. Maybe being gay had something to do about it? Anyway if anyone out there knows of a Mac stream recorder I’d be ever so grateful. Cheers. Love Marc Maron and all his fans. I guess I love myself too.
There are Mac ones out there. Your best bet is to do a google search, and see what you come up with. Here’s a page with some. Good luck.
So, maybe we (I) should record from 1-4 EST, just to account for variables?
(Just thinkin’ out loud . . .)
Yeah, that’s what I’m gonna try, I guess. Maybe even 4:30 or 5:00 (you never know, with overtime).
Ok, I put a page over there under pages about recording streaming audio, with a link to Melina’s instructions (thanks, Melina). My hope is that people will post comments to that page about what programs they use to record the stream, and provide links, setup information, etc. So, if you have a favorite Mac, Windows, or Linux app, please share. This way, when folks ask, we can point them to that page (something tels me AAR won’t help them out too much).
Louis Lapham, Harper’s Magazine, coming up on the The Al Franken Show, on the case for impeachment!
But PJ, will my post move down as I blog? Ive been waiting to blog so that one says a the top.
Maybe Ill give it its own page on my other page….as much as I hae to keep working in Front page…I am switching to Dream weaver soon…but I have to rebuild all of that stuff I have there so…ugh…
Ive spent a long time trying to figure if frontpage allows one to imbed sound in pages…srange that I cant find it because I want to stream old time radio shows from there….maybe you just imbed it like a picture…?
I used the permalink for your post.
ah…so it always goes to that spot….OK…
I also put it here:
http://www.himanbrown.com/replay.htm
Ill leave it there for now because I have to run out…doesnt really matter, I guess.

Ok I downloaded Replay Radio 7 to my Dell laptop and have set it to record the next Marc Maron show on KTLK 1150. My fingers are crossed that this will work without a hitch. So I use my Intel Imac to sync to my Ipod. I guess I’ll have to copy the resulting Mp3 file from my windows laptop to my Imac and then import into my Nano. What a pain! AAR, I hate you for making me do all this. Have you been taken over by Republican operatives or something? Is this the work of Karl Rove? Trying to muzzle the left? It won’t work you bastards! South Dakota’s All Out Ban on Abortion
By ELIZABETH SCHULTE
South Dakota legislators are taking aim at women’s right to choose abortion–and they’ll be satisfied with nothing less than total destruction.
In the most sweeping anti-abortion measure in 10 years, the state’s Senate and House voted last week for legislation that will ban virtually all abortions. Under the bill–which states that “life begins at the time of conception”–a doctor would face a minimum of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine for performing an abortion, unless it’s necessary to save the woman’s life.
One of the bill’s sponsors, Democratic state Sen. Julie Bartling, said the time is right for a total ban on abortion. “In my opinion, it is the time for this South Dakota legislature to deal with this issue and protect the rights and lives of unborn children,” Bartling told reporters.
Senators voted down a proposed amendment that would have made an exception to protect the pregnant woman’s health. A proposed exception in cases of rape–raised by a Republican–lost in a 21-14 vote…

melina, you asked about whether aar streamed marc’s show last night, well, i went to the aar site and clicked on listen live and got the replay of sam doing al’s show yesterday. so i went directly to ktlk and got their stream and listened to marc.
later during a commercial i went back to aar and found that if you clicked on the marc maron show, aar gave you a box that would link you to the ktlk stream. so in a roundabout way aar provided a link to a stream, but aar was wrong wrong wrong (as isi has told us already this morning) to say that they were going to stream marc’s show. just another way for aar to distance themselves from marc. also aar didn’t arrange for marc’s show to appear on xm radio. it makes me :mad: how they treat marc. i’m glad that his show is better than anything else on aar, although i really do like malloy and rhodes and ring of fire and sometimes franklin.
An Open Letter to the NDP and Liberal MPs
Canada and the American Empire
By JOHN RYAN
As a long time supporter of progressive political policies in Canada I was perplexed and dismayed by the results of our recent federal election. My consternation led me to write the article that is attached to this letter. The essence of my analysis is summed up in the opening comments:
The 2006 federal election has set the stage for a possible dismantling of Canada’s distinctive social and economic fabric. The newly evolved Conservative Party, in many respects a chilling echo of the USA’s Republican Party, is poised for a two-stage attack to reshape Canada in line with its Canadian version of America’s neoconservative ideology.
The purpose of this letter is to urge the NDP and the Liberals to begin the process of forming a coalition and, if this turns out favourably, to consider the prospect, under the right conditions, of eventually merging the two parties into a centre-left Liberal Democratic Party.
For years the minority of Canadians on the political right languished in the wilderness because of a split in their political movement. However, after a series of misadventures, they finally coalesced into a single party–albeit with some alienation and disaffection in their ranks. Basically, their strategy worked–and although they received only 36 percent of the vote, they now form the government.
While in a minority position, we can rest assured that the Conservatives will not introduce any of the hardcore measures that form the basis of their raison d’etre — measures that would change the face of Canada. For this they require a majority. Their strategy will be to survive a few months in a non-controversial manner to gain the respect and confidence of the public to enable them to get a majority in the next election…

cnickthomas-
Did you say that you forked over for premium AAR?
I did that two days ago as well. I had downloaded the Wiretap for Mac.
Used it last night but unless you pay for Wiretap Pro you can only record in AIFF- which creates huge files. I am looking at converters but more downloads, more money, more time- I am almost never home so I am just going to trust that Bob at AAR place will have it for me in the morning and I can listen online at night.
They had better get that phone-in number straightened out!
What a shame that PJ couldn’t call in or any of us.
Anxious about the show tonight being preempted by the Clippers.
No . . . I bought the premiere show . . . that’s all! I just downloaded Replay Radio 7 and have set it to record the live stream from KTLK tonight and each new broadcast.
Melina, I got the file but at work there’s no sound card so I can’t tell how well it came through. No errors showing, though. Thanks!
My boss just informed us that, due to a parking lot crowding problem, they want my department to work from home tomorrow. Well, I can do that gettng up late so I’ll be able to listen to the show live for one more night. If I can stay awake that long. I’m  about it.
CBS Radio Sues Howard Stern
By SETH SUTEL
The Associated Press
Wednesday, March 1, 2006; 1:10 PM
NEW YORK — CBS Corp.’s radio division sued Howard Stern Tuesday, claiming its former star shock jock breached his contract with them when he moved to Sirius Satellite Radio Inc.
The lawsuit, which also names Sirius and Stern’s agent as defendants, claims Stern improperly used CBS radio’s air time to promote his new show with Sirius, which began last month. CBS also claims Stern discussed his plans with Sirius without disclosing them to CBS as required under his contract.
Even before the lawsuit was filed in New York State Supreme Court, Stern tried to upstage the action with a hastily arranged news conference in Manhattan Tuesday to strike first at his former employer.
Stern said the lawsuit was meritless, and said CBS was trying to “bully” him. He called the lawsuit a “personal vendetta” against him by CBS Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves, whom Stern said held a grudge against him.
Stern said CBS officials knew of his plans to leave for Sirius and also condoned his references to satellite radio on the air and did nothing to stop him when he spoke about it on his show.
CBS Radio had formerly been known as Infinity Broadcasting, part of the Viacom Inc. conglomerate before CBS split up with Viacom at the beginning of this year.
Stern called the news conference after The New York Post’s widely read gossip column Page Six published an item Tuesday saying CBS was on the verge of filing a lawsuit against him.
Stern moved his popular and bawdy morning show to satellite radio last month after years of railing against decency restrictions imposed on terrestrial radio by the Federal Communications Commission.
CBS wants Stern, his agent, Don Buchwald, and Sirius to return any financial benefits they received from using CBS radio’s air time to promote Sirius, including the value of a tranche of Sirius shares that Stern and Buchwald received early for exceeding a target for subscriber increases by the end of 2005.
That block of 34.4 million Sirius shares was originally worth $100 million at the time the deal was announced in 2004, but its value swelled to $200 million by the time Stern actually received the shares at the beginning of 2006, bringing the total value of his five-year deal to about $600 million.
At current prices, the shares are worth about $175 million. Stern’s deal with Sirius specifies that costs for producing and marketing the show must be paid out of the compensation he receives.
Sirius spokesman Patrick Reilly said the company didn’t have a comment yet because its lawyers had not reviewed the suit.
Sirius shares fell 12 cents or 2.3 percent to close at $5.11 in regular trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market Tuesday, and they fell another 6 cents to $5.05 in after-hours trading.:omg:
hey travis they have an ontario in the los`angeles area man thats where the truck stop is around there nice mall and good comedy club too

hey one of you subscribers of podcasts send me this mornings maddow since i was apparently on it send it to seaniesean5@aol.com
whatever fine nobody be around its ok i have to go over to staples and fed ex some stuff ok well later sheeple
I’m a freakin’ hypocrite, but i broke down and paid the bastards at AAR, just as i swore i would never do -I think 6 months premium, just for Maron and nothing else, makes a statement, even if I did sell out my principles. I just don’t trust the KTLK-whatever feed, and the LA Clippers, and my pathetic techie skills, such as they are. It was just great listening at work today.
Don’t know how you guys feel, but Jim Earl is going to have to develop some other type of persona to be a sort-of-straight man [like Kent Jones has]- In the past I felt that the Morning Sedition show lagged on those days that Reilly was out, because there’s no pace with just one guy going nuts – Maron was rambling last night to fill up dead air, and Earl for the most part was not there to bounce off of. Maron was better with the guest than he was with just Earl. Its just one show, and Jim will get it down I’m sure [actually, Earl sounded nervous]. Sammy will slap everybody back to their senses tonight.
But man, do I miss that wonderful Mark Green.
Hello Oregon!!
We’ve been busy these last few months with the formation work of Into the Blue (registering as a nonprofit, clarifying status with the MO Ethics Commission and the OR sec. of state, forming a board and perhaps most importantly, evaluating and choosing a first infrastructure project!). The time has finally arrived to begin changing the country one swing county at a time!
The moment is ripe. Nationally, CNN.com reported Bush’s approval ratings at 39% on Valentine’s day and since then, the numbers have dropped lower. In Missouri, support for the Republican agenda is slipping. In the 94th District legislative race (near St. Louis) this past November, Democrat Jane Bogetto stunned locals with a 58 percent victory, becoming the first Democrat to win the seat in almost sixty years. Your committment to strengthening progressive infrastructure in swing counties will be key in creating a political environment in which public education, affordable health care and sustainable environmental practices are taken seriously and in which calls for accountability and honesty in government are recognized for what they are: expressions of patriotism and good sense. So let’s get to work:
Project: Blue Boone Data Base project
Cost: $15,000
This amount includes the resources necessary to design a non-proprietary system (which can be shared with other counties at minimal cost) that is designed to aid community-based organizing efforts. This budget item reflects the use of free ware and open architecture database software.
Explanation:
Currently, the only voter list available to Boone County Democrats is the Voter Activation Network which fails to include data on the many voters who live outside city limits, is rarely updated and only periodically available. During the 2004 election, Kerry supporters worked from incorrect and incomplete lists and had no way to easily and effectively store the data the voter data they collected. Other groups canvassing in Missouri, such as America Coming Together, worked from their own lists, which they were prohibited from sharing with local Democratic organizations by federal campaign laws. The Blue Boone Data Base will accomplish three key infrastructure goals:
· It will give Democratic supporters, allies and candidates access to a reliable and continually updated source of information to help them increase awareness about legislation, grow membership in Democratic and progressive groups and Get Out the Vote on election day.
· It will provide a template for data organization that can be easily transferred within the state to other regions of Missouri through the network of county Democratic Central Committees.
· It will provide a mechanism for increased collaboration between progressive allies not currently involved in formal Democratic organizations and county Democrats by collecting information on voters’ issue priorities.
I’ve attached a sheet on guidelines for organizing events and an event sponsorship form.
ALL THIS INFORMATION WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON ON THE WEBSITE but I wanted you to have it as soon as possible so that you could begin organizing. If we can get a few events on the calendar, I will make a trip out to Portland (in April perhaps) to help promote them (on Thom Hartmann’s show and elsewhere).
Please email if you have any questions.
Onward!!
All best,
Lise

NickiRose likes to occupy a lot of webspace on here I see. I’m from the south. I can’t read long articles. My attention span is much to short for that I’m afraid. Can you edit them abit, be a little more concise and to the point?
NikiRose:
I agree completely about your comments on the Conservatives in Canada. We have a big risk that these guys are going to do exactly as you say and our media will completely miss the boat just like in the U.S. of A.
What scared me most was a debate on CBC where our old pal Mr. Day actually spouted “talking points”. Hmmmmm scary eh?
Here’s today’s recipe. I’ll put it on Marc’s AAR blog tonight, too.
Vegetarian Tamale Pie
2 cup water
1 cup fine yellow corn meal
dash salt
2 teaspoon chili powder
1 can black beans, rinsed and drained (or about 1 1/2 cup cooked dried black beans)
12 oz chunky salsa
1 diced jalapeno (or to taste)
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds, toasted and cracked (or just under 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin)
1/2 teaspoon coriander seeds, toasted and cracked (or under 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander)
2 small or 1 large carrot, chopped
Directions:
Sautee carrots in vinegar or whatever you usually use, along with the spices. add the jalapeno and the beans, stirring and cooking about 3 min, then add salsa and reduce heat to a simmer. while the bean mixture is simmering, bring 2c water to boil with dash of salt. a little at a time, sprinkle the corn meal into the boiling water, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. continue sprinkling and stirring until you have a thick porridge resembling grits or cream of wheat (ymmv with the amount of corn meal this takes — don’t force all the corn meal into the batter if it looks done with less). remove batter from heat and stir in chili powder. the bean mixture should be just about cooked now — if carrots are tender, remove bean mixture from heat.
spread 1/2 the corn meal mixture into the bottom of a large loaf pan or small baking dish. spread all of the bean mixture (or as much as reasonably fits in your pan) onto the corn batter. Top with remaining half of the batter, kind of like a top and bottom crust. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 min or until the top corn meal batter is pretty firmly set.
Garnish, if desired, with fresh tomatoes, cilantro, scallions, hot sauce, etc.
Yum!
hey canuck i just got back from ottawa
as always pj, you are so helpful. I was successful with the ktlk stream last night, and got the show on my pod this morning. it was so nice to laugh again!!! made me able to face the NY times, which is not funny. anyway, we will now all have to keep an eye on the clippers, will schedule a longer record time tonight just to make sure, thanks again for the headsup!
:paranoid:went to a comedy show up there the comedians seemed pretty scared of your new prime minister what is going on did they steal your election? i guess that would be too hard since you have all paper ballots up there what the hell is going on?
weird i go away for a couple minutes and theres like ten posts in my absence
My daughter goes to McGill, and as far as I’m concerned, Canadians rule! Lets all be nice to them, because we might need them in the future, if you get my drift.
the neo con death cult is getting ingrained into the canadian political scene now too so uh we better watch our backs
Good afternoon sheeple,
Sorry to not post this morning. I was running a little late and frankly, I was kinda overwhelmed with all the posts between both blogs. Hopefully I’m caught up now.
Thought I would be able to stream the archive at work without an iPod, but they’re cracking down on us saving non-work-related files to our PCs, so I’ll wait until the weekend and finally purchase that iPod. Late funny is better than no funny. It sounds like you guys had a blast listening, though. 😀
So are we now cheering for the Clippers to miss the playoffs, so that Marc’s show will start on time every night?
:banana::banana::banana:
Gaijinda, congratulations on your graduation!
If you’re celebrating tonight, have one on me.
:alc:
What the hell, make it two. I’m good for it next time I’m in Japan.
:rofl2:
yeah i guess it is bad news for the clippers, we certainly don’t want them in the playoffs unless they play very fast games!
Poor Pay Biggest Share of State, Local Taxes
by Michelle Chen
While the poor pay what many consider a proportionally unfair burden at the federal level, when it comes to state and local taxes, they tend the portion of their income as the richest percent.
Mar. 1 – Federal program cuts, tax breaks for the wealthy and state budget crises are not the only forces squeezing the working poor. According to a study by a progressive think tank, low-income households are getting pinched yet again by state income-tax policies that turn what little they have into even less.
Of the 42 states levying income taxes in 2005, nineteen taxed two-parent families of four living in poverty, and sixteen taxed impoverished single-parent families of three, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), which has tracked state income-tax data since the early 1990s.
Antipoverty groups say such tax policies add a perverse twist to an already tattered social safety net, and are demanding tax relief for the poor through redistributive fiscal policies.
“This is an especially harsh time to be taxing families deeper into poverty,” said Kimble Forrister, executive director of the low-income advocacy coalition Alabama Arise, noting that families in his state are still reeling from the impacts of Hurricane Katrina and skyrocketing fuel costs.
According to the CBPP, while some states have recently reformed their tax codes to relieve the lower income brackets, others have simply let their income-tax thresholds stagnate. This has allowed inflation to drive the tax floor below the federal poverty line – about $16,600 for a family of three in the lower 48 states and the District of Columbia. The study also found that 31 states taxed families with incomes just above the official poverty line, pulling them back toward financial insecurity.
In Alabama, the basic tax exemptions are essentially held over from Depression-era statutes. In 2005, the state culled income taxes from families of four earning as little as $4,600. A single-parent family of three making the minimum wage – that’s under $11,000 per year – paid nearly $220. The state charged four-person families with two parents living at the poverty line, which hovers just below $20,000, about $540. . .

Hi, all! Just wanted to say “hello” and thank everyone for a great time last night. It was the first time I could actually blog and listen at the same time. Thanks, PJ for all you do here.
I am wiped out this evening. Didn’t think I was going to make it through the day. My damned premium subscription worked fine, so with a little cut ‘n’ paste, I was able to listen to the Show once more this morning. I am content. I think I need a blissfully floating transcendental emoticon here…

Beyond Chutzpah
Finkelstein, whose parents are both survivors of the Holocaust, discusses the misuse of anti-Semitism.
by Norman Finkelstein and Sherri Muzher; Palestine Chronicle ; November 02, 2005
Audacity. Cheekiness. Daring. Gutsiness. Any one of these words can define the Yiddish word, “chutzpah” with both positive and negative nuances. But as DePaul Professor Norm Finkelstein demonstrates in his new book, “Beyond Chutzpah: On the Misuse of Anti-Semitism and the Abuse of History”, there are those who take chutzpah too far in the negative direction.
One such person is prominent Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz whose book, “The Case for Israel” is debunked point by point by tireless and meticulous researcher Finkelstein. Ultimately, Dershowitz’s book is found to a work of fraud and plagiarism. Knowing that Finkelstein’s book would damage his credibility, Dershowitz took the unusual step of writing to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and suggested that he interfere and prevent the book from being published. The book’s publisher is the University of California Press. According to The Nation, the legal affairs secretary to Governor Schwarzenegger responded to the Dershowitz letter: “…he [the Governor] is not inclined to otherwise exert influence in this case because of the clear, academic freedom issue it presents.”
Finkelstein, whose parents are both survivors of the Holocaust, discusses the misuse of anti-Semitism in order to achieve political gains, but shines most in his book when showing that Dershowitz’s claim that Israel is a haven of human rights is wholly inaccurate. Reports by human rights organizations, like Amnesty International and Israel’s own B’tselem, are cited in surplus. One wonders if Dershowitz ever thought to do some of his own-fact-checking with prominent and respected human rights organizations when putting Israel up on a human rights pedestal. From the graphics to the torture of Palestinian minors to the complicity of Israeli medical personnel, there is nothing left to the imagination in terms of Israel’s horrendous human rights record. There is even a chronology in the back of the book that describes the roots of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
If one can summarize “Beyond Chutzpah” in one sentence, it would be this: Finkelstein leaves no stone unturned when setting out to prove the misuse of anti-Semitism.
Recently, I had an opportunity to talk with Finkelstein about his thoughts on a myriad of themes in his book. Passionate, colorful, and with a dry wit to boot, Finkelstein rejects the label that he is an intellectual but rather “someone who goes through the reports and credible history of what is going on and compares it to the nonsense … somebody’s lying.” […]

The Unholy Alliance Strikes Back
Settlers and the Military Work Together
by Neve Gordon; February 20, 2006
It was a beautiful winter day. I was among approximately 80 Israeli activists who set out to plant trees in the South Hebron region, home to hundreds of Palestinian cave-dwellers. The desert air was chilly, the land moist after the rains, and the hills full with wild flowers. Yet the tranquil setting was deceptive.
For years the cave-dwellers have been subjected to ongoing harassment by the Israeli military, police, and Jewish settlers, whose aim is to undercut their livelihood so that they will “voluntarily” move to other parts of the West Bank. The idea, so it seems, is to cleanse this region of its Palestinian inhabitants…

Art or Anarchy? article
by Steven Jesse Bernstein
1987: A friend read Art or Anarchy? (Or “What is Poetry”) over the phone. Indeed. At its best art is the final kick in the gut that is the inspiration of anarchy–a falling away of slivers of glass and rubbery sheets of paint, a noisy caving in of walls that leads to the whistling clear and lawless out-of-doors. Or it is a vision of life beyond confinement. Hopefully, art releases someone from somewhere they didn’t want to be; maybe someplace they didn’t know they were until they got away from it.
Poems are often notes of escaping laboratory animals having been experimented to luridness by keen pickle jar scientists. It can be said that these desperate screeches and groans are entirely subjective and are too sweaty and unstudied to be called art. Yet I will refer even to the tracks leading to the open window as poems.
Poetry, as such, as a term of definition, is a wild card. It is permissible, and even encouraged, to consider any and all collections of words as poems. Or to think of single words as poems. Or to regard things that aren’t words as words and, therefore, conceivably, as poems.
This elasticity of denotations of cultural significance is true for art, in general, it seems. We hear the professor’s shoes, the clattering of scalpels; we are chewing on the metal cages, anxious to try anything.
The test of the integrity of a poem, or any work of art, may be, simply: does it lead, in the end, to freedom, or does it merely expand the arena of confinement? A voice from the outside, truly, is what we need to hear. Even a single word. Even something that is not a word, but suggests such a word.

Gulags For American Citizens In Final Planning Stages
Halliburton sex slave trade criminals prepare camps for political dissidents
Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones/Prison Planet.com | March 1 2006
Bush administration and US army preparations to target American citizens and intern them in forced labor camps has vastly accelerated in the past month and commentators from all over the political spectrum are sounding the alarm bells that the round-ups may begin soon.
Once the bane of the media’s stereotypical ‘tin foil hat wearing’ caricatures, concentration camps in America are now serious news and no one is laughing.
Following the news first given wide attention by this website, that Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg, Brown and Root had been awarded a $385 million dollar contract by Homeland Security to construct detention and processing facilities in the event of a national emergency, the Alternet website put together an alarming report that collated all the latest information on plans to initiate internment of political subversives and Muslims after the next major terror attack in the US.
The article highlighted the disturbing comments of Sen. Lindsey Graham, who encouraged torture supporting Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to target, “Fifth Columnists” Americans who show disloyalty and sympathize with “the enemy,” whoever that enemy may be.
It is important to stress that the historical precedent mirrors exactly what the Halliburton camp deal outlines. Oliver North’s Reagan era Rex 84 plan proposed rounding up 400,000 refugees, under FEMA, in the event of “uncontrolled population movements” over the Mexican border into the United States.
The real agenda, just as it is with Halliburton’s gulags, was to use the cover of rounding up immigrants and illegal aliens as a smokescreen for targeting political dissidents. From 1967 to 1971 the FBI kept a list of persons to be rounded up as subversive, dubbed the “ADEX” list.
The current terrorist suspect list was recently revealed to contain the names of 325,000 people. The government claimed that only a tiny fraction were American citizens living in America but when compared to the potential terrorist list in the UK, which under section 44 of the terrorism act has ensnared at least 119,000 people, most of them innocent protesters, the number is likely to be far higher. Britain’s population is only 60 million compared to the US at 295 million.
Halliburton, through their KBR subsidiary, is the same company that built most of the major new detention camps in Iraq and Afghanistan. KBR have been embroiled in a human sex slave trade that their representatives have lobbied to continue.
We have a company that has been handed a contract to build prison camps in America that is engaged in trafficking young girls and women. Can this horror movie get any more frightening?
A much discussed and circulated report, the Pentagon’s Civilian Inmate Labor Program, has recently been updated and the revision details a “template for developing agreements” between the Army and corrections facilities for the use of civilian inmate labor on Army installations.”
The plan is clearly to swallow up disenfranchised groups likes prisoners and Muslims at first and then extend the policy to include ‘Fifth Columnists,’ otherwise known as anyone who disagrees with the government or exercises their Constitutional rights.
Respected author Peter Dale Scott speculated that the “detention centers could be used to detain American citizens if the Bush administration were to declare martial law.”
Daniel Ellsberg, former Special Assistant to Assistant Secretary of Defense, called the plan, “preparation for a roundup after the next 9/11 for Mid-Easterners, Muslims and possibly dissenters. They’ve already done this on a smaller scale, with the ‘special registration’ detentions of immigrant men from Muslim countries, and with Guantanamo.”
George Bush has declared himself to be dictator and to have supreme power over and above the limitations of the US Constitution. Bush administration officials like Alberto Gonzales have declared Bush to be “above the law.” White House advisors are openly discussing the legality of crushing a child’s testicles as part of the war on terror. Preparation for the internment of thousands of Americans who are ‘disloyal’ in times of emergency are afoot.
The next step is clearer than it has ever been. One more large scale staged terror attack in America and the result will be martial law. When even famous singers like Morrissey are being detained and questioned by the secret service for “speaking out against the American and British governments,” we know we are in a lot of trouble.
:fist:ha ha maddow in the mail!!!!!
ha ha yes fishy duck!
Sean, can you cut out the penguin part and send it to me?I want to hear it. I missed it this morning:doh:
Oh, Marc plugged us over on today’s blog entry!
well, ok, sure. I don’t know man…I’m still a little pissed about the format they had yesterday and that it excludes EVERYONE OUTSIDE OF CALIFORNIA! (read it like you’re screaming):rant1:
the edit button is great:doh:
From AmericaBLOG
I think its a sign!
Hey man! Did the top poster’s list grow? That’s cool!
Well, I’ll just get back to my celery and peanut butter:banana: cause that’s all I’ve got…It’s not bad though…I guess.
Hey! ….. Nicki, would you mind horribly putting a paragraph or two and then linking to the story?…see, I read Truhout and I also get it in my inbox…and today I was reading the blog from my little computer phone and its really hard to scroll down so far in that thing….Please link to at least half of the sotry….youre the only one that doesnt…and as much as the stories are great, it would help flow if there was less text blocks breaking things up…
Seanie…I heard you on Rachel today…does she know who you are form the blog or somehing? she was paricularly snarky….
Good question though…
You know, I’d prefer to hear Marc go on any day over these sort of made up time fillers hat she and kent are doing. The thing I like abou mos of Marc’s bits is that they reference topical things…like stem cells and religion….I feel like Rachel is reaching out into the ether and not finding much (no offense Seanie)
I also hope we will hear Brendan talking more….
Jim is fine…and he will get better. I prefer for him to do his suff and let marc rail on rather than forcing things like Kents sometimes seems to….This is gonna be a great show and I am so happy to know that tomorrow it will be waiting for me.
Gypsy I will send you some more mail soon.
nick- if you use your ipod on a Mac can you also load the disc into a PC and hook it up just to load the radio….or is it one or the other platform? My son’s ipod goes to his Mac (he has to have that for school) and mine to my PC.
Too bad you cant run an ipod on both platforms. It has the capacity to run on either…right?
I
Travis-can you go to the store?
I hate to think that youre not eating….that cant be good!
Sure, I’m just throwing a little fit. I’m cool, I guess.
I wouldn’t mind getting the hell out of this apartment and this state, though:rant1:
Hey, PJ! Thanks for expanding the list! (Looks like I just squeaked by . . .)
You’re the best, man–no sleep, school, babysitting all’us on the blog, and then you go and do this lovely thing.
Thank you!!!
:bow::love::banana:
Hey Pj, and everybody! That’s pretty sweet that Marc gave a shout out to this blog. Hopefully everybody will take notice and c’mon over here :fire:
Hello Gang,
I hope I’m not repeating what a fellow Seditionista has posted. I found a very easy to use and FREE stream recorder. It’s Called SDP and it works very much like a VCR.
Wbsite: http://sdp.ppona.com/
KTLK stream: http://a418.l1977644522.c19776.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/418/19776/v0001/reflector:44522
Andy,… I think you know what you did. Would you like to apologize?:rofl2:
Hello, all, Happy Daze! Does anyone else think Marc might do the late night TV show like Conan O’B’s? Conan’ll be gone in a couple of seasons, so maybe we could SEE Marc on the east coast at 12:30 instead of streaming at 1 am. Yikes, I felt like :40: without the buzz.
Please don’t give me a lecture on long posts. Look at some of yours. I usually give a few paragraphs and link–but not always, like any number of people who post here.
I think I quit here anyway! You got your show back.
Nicki, stop that crazy talk, would ya? What the fuck? C’mon, don’t be like that..
I guess I could be a little more diplomatic in my plea, but whatever!
Uh OH,
What’d I do?
Man, you stretched the blog out!
The ktlk stream link was too long and made the page longer than usual. It’s no big deal though:razz:
I guess it would be wider and not longer. But your pickin’ it up, right?
:spank:
I’m using Opera. I don’t see any change. But I’ll assume the position if I must. :spank:
:fist: alright, if you think it will help… Opera…I’ve got no clue what you’re talking about. But I think it’s something like firefox or something. Ok, that’s cool
I’m on firefox too and I don’t see a change….
Trav are you on IE?
Nicki: Calm down :omg:
I think he’s on IE. I’ll try it and see….for the good of science of course.
Malloy kicks ass! oh, I better get out the ironing board and get into some crazy sport ironing 😡
Yup, I downloaded firefox the other day and it just felt weird so I went back the internet explorer. I think I’ll jsut stick with it( IE). I don’t get why the other stuff is so good. But I’m not really a tech preson:doh:
Travis,
the page is all wierd, but it’s afunction of IE. Try this: http://www.opera.com/
Browsing Nirvana my friend, browsing Nirvana. :yinyang:
Andy: Just don’t let Bush know what you’re doing…
Rethugs and Science do not co-exist peacefully!
P.S. It’s FREE.
Andy, are you on a mac? Anyway, have you ever used the browser Camino? It’s lightening fast….
Travis, there are a number of different skins that you can use with firefox. But I understand how it feels. I’ve always been a Safari user so it took me a long time to get use to firefox…
More run on sentences later on….
Custom built PC called Excalibur – You’ve never heard of the Excalibur? It made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs. Man I’m gettin’ tired.
I’ve never used Camino. I was into mozilla for a long time and then tried Opera, been using it ever since.
i’m gonna cut it out and e-mail it probably get that done tomorrow!
ha rethuglicans are calling malloy en-mass!:rofl2:
Gee I wonder how the clippers are doing.
Malloy if fuckin’ the rethugs up! :rofl2:
Wo,
Thanks Sean. Malloy’s kicking butt!
The republican is ashamed! 👿
As he should be.
Malloy said pres. Kennedy was a republican:40: Oh well
He voted for Kerry though. His views changed before 2004!
He’s not your average neo-con freak…
well i almost have the penguin all chopped up so if anybody wants the penguin e-mail me seaniesean5@aol.com ok then
Maybe he only sipped the kool-aid. :ear:
Baby sips at the most. Sean, I sent out my penguin meat request…:sammy:
ok i am e-mailing the penguin now i got it all chopped up and ready to send
Hey Nicki …dont get in a huff…why would you quit? I was just commenting on how hard it is to read the blog from any remote machine wih a small screen…also, I may write alot but at least its my own writing….Why dont you post just some part of the articles and more of your own thoughts on the aricles?
No one is lecturing you….
relax…
its almost time for the funny…
and whats so hard about posting a litle less article and a little more link?
pj man check your mail buddy i just got the penguin e-mail returned to me it says your box is full
Sean, that’s great man! Fishy Duck!:omg:
Got it Sean, thanks. Oh man….Trouble by Cat Stevens…what a fantastic tune…reminds me of Harold and Maude 😥
Ha ha Sean! :rofl2:
hey i picked up some beck today its a remix album of guero everything else they had of beck was too expensive and the remix one sounded more interesting
I’m sure it’s good man. In the future pick up his early stuff like Stereo Pathetic Soul Manure and One Foot in the Grave. Those two were right before the break through Mellow Gold…
Trouble by Cat Stevens. Hey man! have you heard the Pearl Jam rendition!(is that the right word?) Good stuff:nod: I’ll look for it
so has anyone who knows…is it baseball or baskeball?…checked he score to get some idea of whats up in Burbank? I think that the show will go on to make a podcast. What comes on afer him? Even if its a rerun they may want to stay on schedule. Anyway My Replay is gonna record 2 extra hours then Ill cut them out somehow. That little MP3 chopper that comes with Replay is more of a chopper than a real editor. Seanie, what editor did you use for the penguin clip?
they had mellow gold but they wanted :omg:18:omg: bucks for it!
Good night everybody.
Here’s hoping SDP works and records the funny.
hey melina i used my program internet radio recorder it sucks i cant get it to record ANYTHING but it is really really good at chopping things up ok well uh someone e-mail me the show since i will be driving tonight when the show is on and friggin call xm even if you dont subscribe and tell them to carry the funny!!!!! i need to be able to listen and drive!
:sammy:i cant believe i am going to miss the first sammy the stem cell since he got killed! i need to know how they bring him back to life!
As Trav would say, check it! it’s a pic of me extreme ironing!
Well Sean when you’re up to it sometime I’ll lend it to you for free…
I was transferring my fish and lobser to a bigger tank and listening to some great music…alternative country rock sorta stuff, and for some reason the next tracks were Rapture Watch…so funny!…and some of those were a little rough too….bu the content was just great and i was presented as a little thing in a huge scale….so many hours of material that makes up the whole finite thing that is MS. Im just so happy that we get an ongoing future (for now) of MM creating something else (with help from his friends)…and it makes me realize again that there will be plenty of time to develop this thing.
I think that this is a great time frame for Marc. He will really be able to stretch….if only it could be national and in Jeaneane’s slot….oh well….we’ll work on that
Wow Jason, you iron? I guess men have to iron those button down shirts…I so avoid it….maybe iron once a year!
Im impressed!
Man, Melina, I’m a super geek! I iron my t-shirts…
:banana:you need to climb a mountain and iron on the peak man!
“I’m impressed” :rofl2:
dont tell me you iron your sheets….your jeans?
Spooky coincidence, Travis — I had celery and peanut butter for dinner also! Yeah, I could have gone to the store, but there is always peanut butter on the shelf and the celery was 49 cents a pound last weekend. My dog goes through damned near a pound a day of celery, but she was willing to share. Tonight. I was warned not to make a habit of it.
I used to like to iron when I watched soap operas. There is something very 50’s about soaps and ironing…but I just dont have the time anymore….
Zeb- I have 5 dogs and they LOVE cauliflower, carrots, and green apple….oh and peanut butter too, of course!
Lookit this from HuffPo…lead story now….
When are they putting these assholes in jail??
Trav, yeah I’ve heard that live version from Pearl Jam before.I have it around here somewhere. It is good. :fist: It’s such a sad song…
p2p
maronmania
They also do a killer live version of Tom Petty’s “I won’t back down”
Melina re comments #296 and #297  😉
ARREST!
IMPEACH! (format by KevinM)
VIGILANCE!
:fire::!:
The video, with bush right there in the meetings…proof!!They knew…they Slimed Brown as the fall guy….damn!
Yeah, Melina, re-reading the Hartford Courant of 15 FEB in Randi’s page sure shows a compare and contrast with a bunch of liars. Scary thing is that Brownie comes across as the good guy out of that rabble. I’m old so I recall John Erlichman saying of Patrick Gray:
Even in Watergate the Repuglicans were willing to eat their own.
Of course my dog will eat damned near anything…but not that tainted meat found in the White House these days.
My dogs bite Republicans!…and they eat poop sometimes too…well, only a couple of them do….I guess its the veggie chunks in there…heh heh…
I also remember watergate…my Mom is very, very political so we watched the whole thing gavel to gavel…very fun!
Pj, I hope you did alright with your presentation and on your mid-terms. Are you gonna put up a Maron Show #2 thread? :fire:
I damned near flunked out of college watching it. But I recall watching Alexander Butterfield’s testimony live when he mentioned the tapes! I missed all my classes that day and sitting in the dorm room, unblinking at the TV, with my jaw hanging slack.
Perhaps the Gen-Y kids will get to experience it too.
Man, Zeb, I hope so….Iran Contra was good too…
Bush/cheney is gonna be great and so will Libby and all he rest of the crooks. It will be a rich 3 years, a least, of hearings and investitgations….These people are so diry. hey really have to go to jail…or at leas be dragged through the mud!
Nite all…enjoy the show!
hee! evening gang!
i love having Marc back on the air.
!
:fire:
If you ever want to lose your mind, try listening to Malloy on the radio and basketball BS and then Marc streaming AT THE SAME TIME!:doh::eek:
Major props from Marc to morningseditionists on his website and on the show.
THANK YOU PJ FOR WATCHING MARCS BACK AND KEEPIN’ IT TOGETHER FOR ALL OF US:love::love:
Replay Radio 7 !!! Cool software. So I managed to capture the KTLK stream of last nights show. I had the same problem with the Clippers game encroaching into Maron’s first hour. So I’m going to open the window from 2 to 4 hours. That should do it. I also did have one small section of dead air. I recorded in Mp3 and burned a Data CD of the show. From there it was easy to import into Itunes on my Imac and on to Nanoland. So I was driving down Highway 280W this morning listening to “The Marc Maron Show”. Like the good ole days. So I’m hoping to hear all the old characters from Morning Sedition. I missed Sammy the Stem Cell because my timing was off last night. But I’m covered now and not paying endless fees to AAR for the premium podcasts. Boy are all you guys gonna be pissed should AAR decide to air Marc’s show live on their network. Forking over $$$ to AAR isn’t in my budget. Like I’m a poor liberal, not a Rich Republican.
