Ah, the Sopranos are back, I’m on Spring Break, there’s a Marc Maron Show tonight (albeit delayed due to the Clippers), an excellent episode of the West Wing, and SU is Big East Champion (thanks to an Irishman from a blue collar town in the Northeast), and headed to the NCAA’s (for more than one and done, I hope). All is once again right with the world. Well, not all, maybe. Rightwing crazies are still in charge of all three branches of government, we’re helping the Brits build a new nuke, there’s a new bill in the works that would make it illegal for reporters to report on the government illegally spying on us, there’s drought in Kenya, genocide in Darfur, Iraq is, well, still Iraq, and we’re getting ready to make things even worse by fucking with Iran.
But, hey, other than that….
Anyway, as you probably already know, yesterday Russ Feingold announced that he’ll be introducing a resolution in the Senate today to censure George W. Bush. The resolution condemns Bush’s actions in authorizing the illegal wiretapping program and then misleading the country about the existence and legality of the program. Feingold calls the resolution “an appropriate and responsible step for Congress to take in response to the President’s undermining of the separation of powers and ignoring the rule of law.”
“The President must be held accountable for authorizing a program that clearly violates the law and then misleading the country about its existence and its legality,” Feingold said. “The President’s actions, as well as his misleading statements to both Congress and the public about the program, demand a serious response. If Congress does not censure the President, we will be tacitly condoning his actions, and undermining both the separation of powers and the rule of law.”
So, your mission today, should you choose to accept it, is to call your Senator’s office, and ask them if they support the Feingold resolution. If not, ask them why not. If they don’t know or won’t say, ask them when you can call back to find out what their official position is. When they can’t tell you that, say, “that’s OK, I’ll call back tomorrow then.” Also, ask them if they think it’s OK for the President to break the law, and would they please put that in writing and send it to you. Offer to send a self-addressed stamped envelope.
You can get contact info for your Senator here. As always, be polite to the poor schlub who has to answer the phone, but make sure your point is clear. If your Senator has a local office, call them, too.
Feingold is sticking his neck out. He needs to be encouraged, just as the DINO’s need to be spanked.

And on the other hand, Mr. Frist should start reading the newspaper. Or turn on a television. The American people are NOT solidly behind this President. In fact, most Americans think Cowboy George is the worst President in American history.
Goodmorning everyone, although it looks like you’re all sleeping in today.
Isn’t this the week that Marc’s show might appear on satellite radio? Anyone hear anything more about that (more than what Marc told us in his email last week)?
thanks for the info on feingold, pj. :fist: i’ll call diane feinstein :fustrate: and barbara boxer about it today.
kevin, you’ve been talking about the akron zips for so long now that i’m glad to hear about how they’re doing and i’m glad they won their game. see, your blog sibs do give a shit after all.
Pj, are you serious bout this?
on the basketball thingy; I’m glad you all post the stuff even though I don’t follow it (baseball fan here). Otherwise I wouldn’t even know this was going on. Information we likes.
ck, didn’t see an otis update from last night’s visit. ??? hope our little buddy is feeling better.
spent the better part of yesterday cleaning a disgusting garage. still have the work bench to do. spent the rest of the day trying to get the dust and dirt off of me. :yuck:
farmerkat, there’s an otis  update on sunday’s blog #101. includes a photo of otis! he’s doing ok. looks like the healing is going to take some time.
Repuklicans in Georgia want to get women pregnant AND force them to give birth.
Mornin’, all!
My shoulder’s spasming again, so for now this will be short.
Thank you, PJ, for your eloquent post this morning. My bleary eyes opened wide to read about Feingold and what we could do to help him. I hope our two NY geniuses get behind this–I trust Schumer will, but (with only half a cuppa joe in me), I’m not so sure about Chillary. (That’s “ch” as in chutzpah. I’ll explain another time.)
I am feeling cautiously optimistic about Otis. He was given another transfusion yesterday, that ended just about the time we got there, so we saw him very briefly in ICU. I did get to feed him some leftover hamburger (from the fabulous Neptune Diner!) and he ate from my hand. No sign of the feeding tube, which would seem to contradict what the Dr. told me earlier–except maybe they decided not to, what with the transfusion and all. He was really beat, so we got less than 10 minutes with him, but I left him the pillowcase, which he nuzzled his little face into.
I called for an update around 10pm, and though I didn’t actually speak with a doctor, I was told his RBC was “low normal.” I’m not certain what that means; in fact, I’ll be calling once I’m a teeny bit more conscious, and hopefully speak with a doctor. Previously they’d been giving us numbers in percentages, and the highest he’s been is 17, after the first transfusion (I believe normal is around 30).
Anyway, it was the first time we felt encouraged by what we’ve heard, and I’m hoping it signals a turning point.
Melina, if you’re out there, thanks for your kind words about Otis’s daddy! So funny you should suggest that–I like to ask him, “Are you the cat daddy–or the daddy cat?”
Thank you, thank you all . . .
thanks foggy!
Whoops, Farmerkat–
We were posting simultaneously. Now you don’t even have to navigate away from today’s blog!
Seems like your surgery’s fast approaching. What’s the actual date?
Morning seditionists  Hope everyone had a restful night. So am I correct in that there are no Clippers games to ruin the start times of Marc’s show this week? Hoping. N e way, you guys have a good day.
The oil spill in the Alaskan tundra near Prudhoe Bay has got me all upset, and I want to rant about it for a bit. :rant1:
Travis told us about it on the day it happened, March 2, 2006. I read about it in the Alaska Daily News link he gave. Reuters also reported on the spill. Aside from Reuters, the first major media that reported on it was MSNBC ten days after the spill was detected.
BP was in charge of the 34” pipeline that spilled the oil. BP admitted that they knew the pipe was corroded inside and outside. Because of the extensive corrosion, BP had reduced the pressure of the oil flowing through the pipe. The last time they did a test on the integrity of the pipe was six years ago, 1998. BP spokesperson said they scheduled another test for this summer. Yeah, right.
Anchorage Daily News 03/04/2006
BP and representatives of the Alaskan government have tried to minimize the damage caused by the spill. They said that the oil spill covered “slightly less than two acres.”
However, the spill occurred at a caribou migration crossing on the edge of a lake, and cleanup efforts have not yet been completed. It’s not certain yet how much of the tundra and lake have been damaged and to what extent.
“Hot oil under a leak melts snow but then spreads horizontally when it reaches frozen ground beneath the snow.”
Anchorage Daily News 03/05/2006
The Guardian had an extensive report on the Alaska oil pipeline in 1999 and explained about shoddy maintenance of the pipe and the extensive problems with corrosion.
The Guardian article also mentioned Chuck Hamel, a long-time activist against the oil industry, and the dirty tricks that the industry used to keep him quiet:
The Guardian 07/12/1999
Last year Z Magazine and Earth Island Institute ran stories about “the very real possibility of an environmental tragedy that could be as catastrophic as the 1989 oil spill caused by the Exxon Valdez oil tanker if swift measures aren’t taken to address severe safety and maintenance issues plaguing drilling operations in Prudhoe Bay—North America’s biggest oil field, 60 miles west of ANWR—and other areas on Alaska’s North Slope.”
Both articles detailed the extensive efforts that Chuck Hamel has made over the years to get the oil industry to reform its operations in Alaska.
Z Magazine June 2005
Earth Island Institute Autumn 2005
Court TV had a special documentary about how Chuck Hamel won a lawsuit in 1993 against the oil industry. The title of the documentary was “The Whistleblower.”
Court TV 10/28/2004
A Sierra Club report notes that Alaskan pipeline oil spills are commonplace. “In fact, despite industry hype about the safety of development and new technology, the Prudhoe Bay oil fields and Trans-Alaska Pipeline have caused an average of 504 spills annually on the North Slope since 1996, according to the Alaska’s own Department of Environmental Conservation.”
Sierra Club 03/07/2006
The March 2006 Prudhoe Bay oil spill was a big one.
Reuters 03/10/2006
Alaska Daily News 03/10/2006
Alaska Daily News 03/11/2006
The spill will take a long time to clean up. Wildlife will not use an oil-contaminated area for at least ten years.
At least one industry commentator doesn’t think the location of the oil spill is any big deal:
Alaska Daily News 03/10/2006
I looked at dozens of photos of the cleanup activities for the oil spill. None of the photos showed any buildings on the horizon in any direction from the oil spill. How Fineberg can opine that the area is “industrial” is mindboggling. Perhaps he considers that any area where oil flows through pipes is by definition “industrial.”
By the way, another oil spill was reported on Alaska’s northcoast yesterday.
Alaska Daily News 03/11/2006
Looks like a never-ending tragic saga.
so otis isn’t out of the woods yet. maybe the pillowcase will cause an upturn today. i’m sending the best wishes in his direction.
surgery is the third. have to spend half day on friday before at hospital. i’m not sleeping too well; waking up about 3 every morning thinking about crap. mr f gets home the last week in march. thanks for asking.

GOP is in ‘deep funk’ over Bush spending. So says the headline for an article on the front page of the San Francisco Chronicle today. Isn’t it about time! link
:fist:
hey druid, can’t believe people had such a hissy fit about those birds nesting, it’s not like they stay permanently. we have Chimney Swifts that nest in our chimneys every summer. frankly, they can drive me crazy, but once i read about them and how their habitats are disappearing, i wouldn’t let mr f screen the flues. I DID learn to close the flues, though. They build crappy nests and invariably a baby would fall through. Now they can crawl back up if they land on the flap.
hey bascombe!
 Be Well Always Farmerkat So date is April 3? What time — if you don’t mind asking?

Good morning everyone!!
Im happy for this Feingold move and the wonderful pensive pic of Mr Bush on HuffPo…I hate that Ive become someone who wants to see certain people suffer before they get their just desserts. Is it wrong to be sad that Milosovitch didnt suffer enough in the Hague Prison?
Anyway,I managed to catch Ann Curry’s report on Chad and Darfur (where she went with Kristof) and I ordered a bunch of Darfur bracelets to sell last night so I can send the profits to them…anything to just do something because this is the holocaust all over again but really bloody…probably more like the Russian Pograms that my great grandparents fled from; riding into town and raping and killing.
You gotta hand it to Ann Curry (and always to Kristof) that she went right up against the brass at NBC to get this report when noone is reporting it. The thing I like about Ann is that she always goes herself. I became a fan in the weeks after 9-11 when she was climbing around the rubble of the WTC. She is in line for a #1 spot there at one of those big shows, morning or magazine, but she doesnt hesitate to go and do real on the ground reporting…I like that!
I immediately have to change the channel after that because I dont like the stupid goofy…I need the intelligent funny in the AM!
CK- I am feeling optomistic about Otis because he ate hamburger …and the low normal sounds good because it has “normal” in the sentence!
Farmer- Maybe the worst part of these things is the runup whe you get to worry all the time…especially with Mr. over there and driving round in the sandstorms…There is nothing to say except hang in there.
Years ago (maybe 15 or so) I took care of my grandmother (actually my grandfather while she had that done because it was probably harder on him than her) when she had to have an aortic anuerism repair. Since that is below the heart I dont know if they had to do the whole thing that they have to do to get in the heart, but it was pretty extensive.
She had it done at Mass General, which was considered pretty great back then….and even as a late-80’s little frail woman she came through fine. But again, its the stress around it, and the depression sometimes after, and all…seems that the Drs who do this stuff cosider it so much more routine that ever before…but, of course, it can never be routine when its you!
Anyway, hopefully youve been able to talk to some people who have had exactly what youre having so you will know what to expect…and so that Mr will know too…and be ready to accept all the help offers that come your way!
And be ready to feel so much better after!!
I hope that you will tell Mr how to sign on here so that he can tell us how it goes (and to get you Marc’s shows daily so that you have the funny)…but, we have so much time till then!!
Re #24 foggyblue I just had decided to stay up all night and make some coffee, SINCE I VERY VERY seldom drink coffee, then I read “more”. 😮 :rofl2: I guess I should finish the garbage — but the wild racoons are visiting the area – so to bed after I get done with the garbage and “the masked” folk leave — (but I do also compost like the Mad Woman I am) :billcat:

Me, too! I couldn’t get much of an update this morning (they were dealing with a critical case), but the woman I spoke with said Otis was “stable.” Of course, I don’t know exactly what she meant, but it, too, is a word that hasn’t been thrown around much lately, so I’ll take some comfort from that. I’ll speak to the doctor after rounds (>12:30), and should have more news then.
Foggy . . . thank you, too!
Oops–and Druid, you too!
😉
Oh yeah- and FK- a few years ago I heard a scritch scratching in the bedroom fireplace and, like a fool, I opened the flue ad a squirrel dropped down into the room. After spending alot of time with a box ad broom tryig to get him out or back up, I just opeed the windows and left the room and he left….but then after that oe fell dow and got somehow stuck behid the flue to the point where the squirrel control guy (the one who takes them to the aimal rehabilitator) couldt get him…and he proceeded to die immediately and the guy still couldt reach him…and he smelled horrible!! So I let the chimey guy scree up there.
The I had a whole tribe of something in the living room ceiling and …boy there were alot of them and when they got startled they would all run one way and another…We found the hole and he put little cages/doors to try to see if they were out or in…then having no luck, we drilled a hole and tried to smoke em out…nothing…then finally we put some poison up there, because I thought it was rats (as the rats were sitting on the bird feeder looking at me and they wouldnt even run away when I yelled at them and made noise with pans!)And finally a whole mess of these little flying squirrels with the cutest faces came pouring out, collapsing on the path…and Will was due home from school…They have these little flat tails and the cutest faces, like some little marsupials with wide eyes…from austrailia (??)…anyway, I was horrified and upset…but damned if they didnt get themselves up and walk away! I thik that maybe one died in the ceiling, but the rest ran and ever came back. The guy closed the hole ad now I only have nests of whatever in the walls upstairs every spring…Maybe mice…but I can hear them fight and I can hear the babies…
I would suggest screens just to make sure that nothing gets stuck in there. Maybe the birds keep the squirrels and other furry animals out.
Mornin’
So, no Snippers game but what about the other teams :paranoid: We have become backhanded sportsfans!
Oh yeah.
citizenkahn, How’s tennis? — which side is your spasm?
Sorry KP, but there’s a Clippers game tonight, at 7:30 Pacific. So, expect at least an hour delay for the show.
pjsauter, I just read regarding Frist. I know “the many” who I am calling today — his office including. THX
Isi Thx re google Mars. 😎 site
It was great to hear Billy Bragg on Rachel Maddow’s show. I have been playing his records since about 1990. He knows the Clash–my litmus test for hipness.I love his version of “World Turned Upside Down.” I recall a few years ago, He was in Portland to play a gig. Before the concert, he went and marched with the building services union people, who were demonstrating outside of this scab building (Morgan Alley). I was the photographer for the event. He was such a regular guy. Did nothing to draw attention to himself. (I did take his picture, as he was marching.)
Hey, Druid.
Just came back from some tennis-ball therapy. I’d forgotten to put it in the freezer, but it’s there now.
It’s on the right side–the very left bottom tip of the shoulder blade. I haven’t eaten breakfast yet, but as soon as I do, I’ll be downin’ some Aleve.
I was thinking of trying again to see the masseuse. She’s at the gym on Tuesdays (I now know), so maybe we’ll hook up. At this point, I don’t know what’s preferable, massage or chiropractic.
Gonna eat me some oatmeal now!
Squirrels are the WORST house guests! My friend Kim lives in a house with a small hole in the roof vent (and a lazy-assed landlord) which leads to the exhaust vent which used to run through the cabinet over the stove although when the exhaust was moved to the ceiling all the landlord did was remove the vent pipe from the cabinet. So she has had a lot of birds and squirrels in her kitchen cabinet over the years. (The new landlord is fixing the situation as soon as the weather permits.) She says that birds are happy to fly out the open window she provides for them but squirrels catch sight of her cat (the lazy Caisha) and refuse to leave the cabinet. If her tall, brave boyfriend is home, he will don his fencing gloves (thick leather) and try to capture the squirrel and toss it out the window, but if he’s not there or if the squirrel is too agile for Matthew, they will end up having to find the corpse a few days later, and that’s just not pleasant. I can think of nothing more rude than dying when a guest in someone else’s house, especially if the host has provided you with several opportunities to save yourself. Personally, I think their house has been used as the set for Squirrel Fear Factor.
I think KTLK only (only?) carries Skippers … er… Clippers games and UCLA games. There must be a website where we can look up those schedules and know up front what we’re facing on any given night. And…um… does KTLK carry any baseball, football, or hockey games? Sigh! Why can’t they go on one of the sports talk stations like they belong?
Okay, dumb question. Whatever happened to the Fox “entertainment” series about the war in Iraq? Did it get cancelled or was it intended for a short run, like a summer replacement series? And, damn, PJ, you thought that was a GOOD “West Wing” episode? You know, if Josh and Donna don’t do the horizontal tango soon, maybe even get married, it’s gonna be a mess. Yeah, I know the show’s ending after this season, but Josh still has to run the US government after the election and his constant case of blue balls (and Donna’s contempt for him if he keeps messing up the opportunities) is going to play right into the opposition’s hands. (Yes, I really AM more concerned than necessary with TV characters’ sex lives. It’s a curse…)
I just want to give a little shoutout to my man Elwood. He clearly misses his big brother. He seemed somewhat slow to catch on (maybe he thought Otis was in another room? Elwood didn’t have full access to all areas of the house for quite some time, so it wouldn’t be out of his experience), but he has been frequenting Otis’s spots, sitting in very meditative poses, as if concentrating hard enough would make Otis appear. Either that, or he’s channeling Otis–more than once I’ve seen him assume an Otis stance while in said spots. He’s a very different sort of cat; probably average in intelligence, though Otis is so incredibly smart that Elwood actually seemed kinda dense there for a while. He’s very happy, maybe the happiest cat I’ve ever known, and there really isn’t a mean bone in his body. And right now, now that we’re sort of settling into the rhythm of hospital visits and medical updates and being on pins and needles 24/7, his goofiness is especially appreciated. So thank you, Elwood, for being such a good little clown!
CitKahn, you have my sympathy. And another dose of kitty thoughts for Otis. For some unexplained reason, Faraday came up and kissed me while I was reading your last post so he’s sending his own healing thoughts, either for you or Otis or probably both.
NickiRose, you’re one of the first people I’ve encountered who recognize Billy Bragg from “the day.” I used to wonder what the hell he was doing on MTV when he so obviously belonged on NPR. But I have a peculiar view of NPR.
:fu:Frist! Goddamn killer. Why would someone disclose how they obtained cats to torture and kill. Was he boasting on his cleverness? I hope he gets in an accifident. Have him visit Corado Soprano.
:fu::fu::fu:Frist. Jesus Frist, you killer!
Uncle Junior should not be allowed to play with guns.
Vivesect Frist.
F–r–i–s–t :omg: Fuck, I hate …..:
:jason: frist!
wow, so frist the cat killer. frist the armed-chair doctor and frist the crook. frist the liar. No wonder republicans REALLY like the fellow.
all this talk of cats almost makes me want one – do they “make” one that doesn’t shed?
the only bummer about waking up at 3 is I kick myself because if it was an hour or two earlier I could tune in live to Marc. I usually wake we a “hurumfff, damn” So maybe there IS a bright spot to the Skippers games.
we have tons of squirrels around here and they are my dogs favorite things to chase. never had one down the chimney, oh my. something was in the ceiling once and we don’t have a clue of how/what. I made such a racket on my ceiling using on of these (CK– you might want to get one!) and they never came back. :billcat:
(thanks for all your good thoughts!!)
[wow, i didn’t pay THAT much for my theracane…shop before you buy!]

Oh, and mr has told me before that Ann Curry is a lovely woman, a real sweetheart,
FK–there is a “hairless cat.” Not the cutest thing, but then, looks arent’ everything!
I’ve seen that S thang before, never paid it much mind. But I’ll shop around.
BTW, FK, even though I’m totally self- and Otis-absorbed these days, I really want to give a shoutout to you, too. I can’t imagine the stress involved getting ready for surgery and all the challenges getting to that point. You know, of course, that you will get incredible support from the blog (the blog, man–the blog!), but I’m sure that true peace and support will come in the form of Mr. Kat at the end of the month.
Druid, I posted that information about google mars before I even looked at the site. You are right. Way Cool! 😎
http://www.google.com/mars
rummy should be fired, god only knows why he hasn’t been already.
mars IS cool.
I don’t know ck, that is one ugly cat. thanks much for your kind words. the lead-up is the worst part. decided i’m going to show up at the OR with a smiley face drawn on my chest. gotta have happy folks working on you! i’m in denial pretty much…until 3 a.m., that is.
Googlemars. Cool indeed. Who knew that Mars was tie-dyed? Here we try to kill the Martians, and all they wanted was to come and see a Dead show.
citizenkahn Just tell whoever you go to to please break the darn muscle spasm/knot up…– put pressure (like in accupressure) Dispuse muscle spasm — you have too much going on in your life…this is classic part of stress too. If they can’t help you, then you can do it yourself, but better if you have someone else work on you. Try tennis ball leaning with pressure against a wall and roll the ball or you can do similar laying down. I hope I made sense.
 Be Well Otis  Elwood thx for caring for your human family so well. They really appreciate your care.
G’Night, G’Day To All. 😉 Be Well. Cheers.
Oh well, maybe he’ll really step up to the plate when we take on a country that hasn’t already been blown to bits and devastated by a decade+ of sanctions.
Or, maybe just let the Israelis do it for us.
I don’t know if dubya can get the Brits on board for this one. There should be a few hundred thousand in the streets of London for the demonstration on Saturday, and probably millions around the world (again). Dubya won’t listen, of course, but Blair has to be afraid of getting strung up. I just hope Bush is so far into the toilet now that Congress tells him to piss off this time (as they should have last time).
Well, except Lieberman, of course.
CK, I also recommend a good schwitz. In fact, I may have to go and do one myself, if the power doesn’t go out again (boom-booms here today, which I ordinarily enjoy, but the poor doggie doesn’t like them; it does keep you feet warm to have 80 pounds of dog curled up on the under the desk, though.
Maybe that’s all Bill Clinton wanted – something to keep his feet warm.
Tom Petty is playing a nice selection of music on Deep Tracks right now. I keep forgetting how good Elvis was before he went nuts. He had a great band.
:rofl2:
EXCELLENT IDEA!
When I was 17 I had to have my gallbladder out (long story) about a week before Thanksgiving. My father suggested I put a note saying “do not open till Christmas” on my abdomen prior to going into the OR. I don’t remember how it went, but years later, when I went for an abdominoplasty, I gave the surgeon a kid’s plastic doctor’s bag containing a T-shirt that read “I busted a gut at [citkahn]’s tummy tuck.” He enjoyed it–he was a big-time plastic surgeon, and I don’t think he was used to patients like me!
schwitz: Now there’s a word you don’t read very often!
(But PJ, the mavens here on the blog told me heat wasn’t necessarily good for what ails me. I’m so confused!)
looks like tonght we may get some of that nasty weather if it doesn’t stay to the north – tornadoes like to touch down around here, took out my neighbors barn last year (neighbor in it because only slightly injured).
Farmerkat, how can you demand Rumpot be fired! Who would fire him? You forgot who his bosses are – the worst President in American history and a Veep behind the classifying of every document he can to cover up all the criminal activity of the rethugs since Nixon was elected.
added an audio clip to my site. in it marc talks to a prostitute about this years oscar awards show. the clip was edited in apple’s logic pro, imported into garage band for mixdown and converted into a file which was uploaded into the podcast page on my site. you can get to my page by clicking on my name below. i use mac products exclusively to produce this site. ilife 06 contains the programs iweb and garage band in addition to iphoto and itunes
Farmerkat, if ever you need to just talk or vent or whatever, you so have that right, especially here amongst us. I am up at strange hours — yes, we all talk about the issues here — but if all you want to talk about is about you — that is fine with me. You are going through a very intense time. This Is Your Time:!: I just do not want to bring up, when you may not want to bring up. But whether you say or not, you are in my and many thoughts and prayers. Please when you feel up to it, please give date and time. I had no idea — now I do. Thank You.
 😉 Shoot, You still are a better man (woman) than I Gunga Din. And now this.   😉 G’Night, G’Day
forgive me, NC. i was using logic – a big no-no with this regime. mea culpa.
remote posting from the gym.
FK…I got a couplea Sphinx kittens b/c I’m allergic just enough that it bothers me.Will really wanted a cat and, being a chihuahua mom, I guess that I find the Sphinx aesthetically pleasing….well. turned out I wasallergic and so had to give em away….meantime, I learned that lack of hair makes for an oily animal that leaves a spot if you don’t bath them enough. Also there is incredible brown gunk coming out of toe flaps and ears, making for a very messy cleaning every day.
On the upside, the evil genetic manipulators are about to come out with a true nonallergic cat….but some of us are bothered by the spit, dander or hair, so who knows. For me it wasn’t the hair, though they do tend to have a suede like coating that is almost peach fuzz. I really liked them but prefer dogs for my lifestlye…and the work!!
Hmm. Well, I’m not an expert by any means, and my advice is generally worth less than I charge for it, but I find a good sweat to flush out all the nasty stuff makes me feel much better. It’s not like applying heat directly, but whether it’s good for your particular problem I don’t know.
I do know that it enhances circulation (which gets more oxygen out there to all you body tissues), and works well for me for muscle aches, pains, stiffness, and muscle spasms. And, by stimulating vasodilatation of peripheral blood vessels and enhancing the body’s delivery of oxygen to joints and extremities, they say it speeds the healing of sprains and strains, relieving pain and reducing the time it takes your body to recover from an injury.
Plus, my wife says it makes my skin nice and soft, if I use it regularly, which I haven’t been.
I read that it’s recommended by therapists and docs to treat chronic pain, including joint pain, arthritis pain, and fibromyalgia, and is also effective in reducing inflammation and swelling by improving lymph flow.
It gets the old heart thumping away, too, so it’s almost like a workout. Except for the work part. So, yeah, if you have heart problems or SLT (shit like that), then that could be a problem, I guess.
We bought a far-infrared sauna last year, and it’s very nice. Has a built-in CD player and speakers, though I usually just bring in my mp3 player or a book. It’s dry, and you just turn it on, crank up the heat, and sit and schwitz.
Of course, one thing you really need to do (schwitz or no schwitz) is drink lots and lots of water. All day long, every day (unless there’s some sort of medical reason not to). I believe you should try and get at least 100 ounces of water a day – and add twice the volume of coffee you drink.
Fortunately, I love water, and drink it constantly. But, most people are very dehydrated, and that can cause (or exascerbate) all kinds of problems (including muscle spasms). Also, many of us are salt depleted, too.
Perhaps I can get the wife’s take on it, though she’s probably not supposed to say much, license-wise. I don’t know how all that works, except if I recommend something and it kills you, I’m not a member of the medical profession, so what the hell were you doing listening to me in the first place? You should always do your own investigation of things – and that especially includes what the medical/pharmaceutical/insurance axis of evil tells you. IMHO, of course. 😉
Wow, PJ–thanks!
Heat is where I naturally “go” with muscular stuff. And, if I’m gonna be at the gym anyway to see the masseuse, I’m totally willing to give it a try. (Although I hate the smell of the damp wood–some folks love it, but it just smells bad to me!)
Funny you should talk about dehydration–I found out about 8 years ago that I dehydrate very easily. I’d actually suffered for quite a few summers prior to learning that, but nobody ever made the connection–why I was sick to my stomach, why I so craved salt–turns out I dehydrate easily under the most temperate of circumstances, so I am very big on drinking water. That said, I do forget from time to time, and pay dearly for it.
As I write, I’m thinking that a trip to the gym today (masseuse is only in on Tuesdays) might actually be one of the more loving things I can do for myself right now.
Can I bring an iPod into the sauna? I mean, is it bad for the iPod?
You guys are amazing, truly.
NC…Matthews said this AM…think it was him right afterCurry, that no onw will be fired b/c Bush can’t/doesn’t fire anyone. And I agree…I think he should keep going with the same fuckers until there is no neocon party…then work on the regular repubs…my question to the crazy teachers and karate men is
“are you happy yet?” “enough ruin and destruction for you, or do you want to keep going?”
If he changes now maybe the people will forgive and forget…..but apparently he won’t…..
According to Fierdoglake, Kerry’s staffer say he is “absolutely” onboard with the Feingold resolution.
And here are some talking points from Georgia10 over at Kos (which no workie right now) for your phone calls, in case you’re like me and have a tendency to grunt stupidly when they answer the phone:
* The President admitted to conducting a domestic spying program outside the scope of FISA, despite knowing that FISA is the exclusive means of such surveillance inside the United States. President Bush broke the law, and this is the only way this Republican Congess can hold him accountable.
*President admitted he did not brief the full intelligence committees. This is against the law.
*We don’t have to wait for an investigation before censure. President Bush admitted to his crimes publicly. An investigation is needed, but that should not preclude censure at this time.
*Andrew Jackson was censured in 1834 for refusing to hand over papers to Congress and assuming power not granted by the Constitution. With his stonewalling of the investigation and by ignoring FISA, this is exactly what President Bush has done, and he should also be censured accordingly.
If it’s a traditional (steam – that is, wet) sauna, I’d say it probably isn’t too good for the old iPod. Water – good for people, not so good for electronics.
The nice thing about the infrared sauna is that it’s dry – no stinky wet wood. Also, mine has shelves that don’t get all that hot beacuse they aren’t down where the heaters are at. They generate infrared waves – just like the sun – that penetrate into you and kind of warm you from the inside out. Great for tired muscles (and it means you don’t have to jack up the heat as high as you do witha regular sauna). But if you’re not right in amongst them, you stay relatively cool. I can bring a bottle of water in with me, and keep i on the shelf, and while I sit and sweat buckets, the water stays cool – at least for the 40 or 50 minutes I’m in there. So, too, does my mp3 player and my travel speakers (I don’t use the earphones in the sauna).
good talking points and Kerry does seem to have found his brass ovaries.

Therapy notes, skim on past if not interested:
CK, I know that ice can NOT hurt anything. I DO take hot epson salt baths. you can use heat, but they say a cold/hot deal is better. my house looks like a Physical Therapist’s office – balls, styrofoam rolls, inversion table, and I take Pilates on a reformer…. BUT I’ve had three neck surgeries since the horseback riding accident (have a few titanium plates in there) and I can keep myself pain free, no advil or nothing. It takes effort, though. (I’m sitting on a ball as I type and took the Bar Exam sitting on a ball and practiced law sitting on a ball….) I know exactly where your trigger point is as you described it. The only other thing that really helps is walking. a good walk can sometimes get that kink out. I’d wager you are throwing your shoulders forward (heart/mind thing would say you’re protecting your heart with Otis in the hospital..if you believe in that sort of thing) and you need to open and lenghthen your chest muscles.
Signed,
Dr. Farmerkat (that’s doctor as in JD not MD so take it all with a grain of salt!
I wish you a pain-free day.
(I also drink a shit-load of water.)
****
Druid, you’re a peach. Thanks! I’ll know the time the Friday before, not until. I’ll keep the blog-de-force posted.
That’s what I was afraid of. Booor-ing!
I honestly don’t know if it’s infrared–there’s some faux coal-looking thing in there, but it’s in the pool area, which may be where the smell comes from. I dunno. I could also sit on the edge of my tub at home. We’ll see.
I so have to get back to the War of 1812! 🙁
never heard of ’em. Are you sure it isn’t cooking your insides, kinda like a microwave?
(Okay, I know I was thinking of Joanne Worley, but until I find an audio clip, CNR will have to do.)
Well, yeah, it is somewhat like a microwave, except at a different wavelength, and also microwave ovens are basically radio transmitters (at around the 2.4GHz frequency, which is why they’ll screw up yor 802.11b/g WiFi network, among other things).
FIR is 5.6 – 1000 microns, and microwaves are the next band up, from 1 mm up to 30 cm. You basic microwave oven is about 12 cm.
About 80% of what the sun puts out is FIR radiation. It’s the good stuff (as opposed to the Ultra Violet, which is the bad stuff). FIR vibrates at the same rate (frequency) as we do. So FIR is considered to be a “sympathetic energy” to organic matter. In fact, people emit FIR energy constantly in the form of radiant heat (which makes it even easier for the government to spy on us – in fact, there was a court ruling not that long ago that said that using IR detectors to spy into your house was illegal w/o a warrant – bet that’s out the door. They have devices that can dial up a very, shall we say, explicit, picture of us and what we’re doing inside our homes).
Our bodies also radiate FIR energy through the skin at 3 – 50 microns. Our palms emit FIR energy 8 – 14 microns (hold your palms near each other or up to your cheel without touching, and you can feel it). In fact, “palm healing” dates back about 3000 years in China and is based on the natural healing properties of FIR. And radiant heat is more efficient than other heat because it warms you, not the air. Sit in your car on a sunny day in the Winter when it’s colder than hell out, and you’ll feel radiant heat from the sun in action.
PJ, you’re a genius!:banana:Genius!
Foggyblue, thanks for the oil stuff. I was really surprised when I ventured onto the blog this morning to find that. I’ll read the article links that you posted in a little bit.
I bet this has something to do with pot:bong:
Oh yeah.
Interesting interview with Olbermann on CSPAN’s Q&A with Brian Lamb:
LAMB: We have got some other quotes about Fox from you: “Fortunately for the free world, News Corp.,” which owns FOX, “is very aggressive but ultimately not very bright.”
OLBERMANN: Yes, they are somewhat self-destructive. And that’s the best hope for mankind, relative to them.
LAMB: More quotes. This is about Rupert Murdoch: “His covey of flying monkeys do something journalistically atrocious every hour of the day.”
OLBERMANN: Yeah. I think that’s probably true. I think — well, sometimes they miss. They are sometimes — there are a few hours in a row where there might not be a flying monkey appearing, devastating society.

Killing Off Milosevic
Was Serbia a Practice Run for Iraq?
By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS
On March 11, the former Serbian leader and president of Yugoslavia, Slobodan Milosevic, died in his prison cell at the Hague, where he had been on trial for four years and one month for war crimes and genocide. The Serbian Socialist Party leader Zoran Andelkovic responded to the news of Milosevic’s death with the following statement:
“Slobodan Milosevic, the president of the Socialist Party of Serbia and a former president of Serbia and Yugoslavia was murdered today at the Tribunal in Hague. The decision of the Tribunal to disallow Milosevic’s medical treatment at the Bakunin Institute in Moscow represents a prescribed death sentence against Milosevic. Truth and justice were on his side and this is why they have used a strategy of gradual killing of Slobodan Milsosevic. The responsibility for his death is clearly with the Hague Tribunal.”
A partisan accusation or the truth? Milosevic was known to be seriously ill. The Russian government promised to return Milosevic to the Tribunal after treatment. The Tribunal refused. It is easy to conclude that the case against Milosevic had collapsed and that an embarrassed US government, NATO authorities, and Hague Tribunal decided to let him die in his cell rather than admit that his guilt could not be proven even after a trial lasting four years and one month.
Milosevic was caught up in the post-Soviet era break-up of Yugoslavia. . .

Rest Easy, Bill Clinton
Slobo Can’t Talk Any More
By JEREMY SCAHILL
Slobodan Milosevic is characterized in the obituaries as the “Butcher of the Balkans.” If that is the story you want to read about, please go to almost any other media outlet and read it again and again. Some are now suggesting that death is Milosevic’s final revenge, that he “ended up cheating history” by dying before judgment was passed. But the world has already passed judgment on Milosevic and what is being cheated by his death is history itself.
What the corporate media overwhelmingly ignores in Milosevic’s death is what they ignored in his life as well–his intimate knowledge of US war crimes in Yugoslavia. While Milosevic was undoubtedly a war criminal who deserved to be tried for his crimes, he was also the only man in the unique position of being able to expose and detail the full extent of the US role in the bloody disintegration of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. In fact, that is precisely what he was fighting to do at his war crimes trial when he died.
Because of the rule of victors’ justice in the ad hoc tribunal system (a poor and unfair substitute for a true international court), Milosevic’s case would have been the only international trial to potentially expose the details of the illegal, US-led NATO bombing of Yugoslavia for 78 days in 1999. While the US-backed court consistently tried to limit Milosevic’s right to speak, stripping him of his right to self-representation, Milosevic battled regularly to raise US war crimes. Sadly, with Milosevic will likely die the last hope the victims of these crimes in Yugoslavia had of getting their day (if it could even be called that) in court–a tragic and unjust reality to begin with–that speaks volumes about the twisted state of international justice…

Dare I even hope?
Spoke with the vet about an hour ago, and she said Otis might be discharged tomorrow night!
The feeding tube is being inserted as I type, and he will be coming home with it. (He hasn’t eaten much since the fabulous Neptune hamburger, so maybe he will do better at home.) He’ll be on immunosuppressants for a few months (they believe the anemia may be his “immune-mediated,” in other words, he is attacking his own red blood cells, and this will calm things down) and on antibiotics for 28 days (because it could also be some kind of parasite that triggers the reaction, but results for the blood test–which they did on Friday–take at least a week). And of course, it could be neither of those things that triggered this episode. (The other day they thought maybe the anti-inflammatory meds had caused the anemia; now they’re saying it might have been the first antibiotic that did it.) So what I take from this is that they don’t know definitively and may never know definitively.
But that shouldn’t keep Otis from coming home!
I’m in shock, to be honest. I half worry they want to discharge him because he’s such a difficult patient (when we saw him in his ICU cage, there was a sign that said “CAUTION: AGGRESSIVE ANIMAL. WEAR GLOVES!”), and not because he’s necessarily stable. (But then again, I’m a paranoid Jew, what else would I think?) Seeing the warning made me sad; Otis’s Dad said it shows he’s feisty–a good sign. He’s been a feisty patient since the diabetes episode, but please–just let me think he’s an angel!
So . . . more optimistic even than this morning, but also more cautious. To me, it doesn’t sound like he’s out of the woods, but then, I’m not a vet.
I keep trying to keep my anxiety at bay and put a positive spin on this, I guess I’m just leery at this point.
well i wish otis the best, sounds like you have a lot to deal with…..pj, if you have a moment, what time are you setting replay for tonight? i realized over the weekend that although having the podcasts from aar for a month is nice, the replay is actually better because i can the edit the show. i’m thinking of making a collection of my favorite bits. i guess there is a way of editing the podcasts, but right now i don’t have time to figure it out….
I have mine set to record from 1AM until 5AM, every night. It’s easy enough to find the end of the show and lose the extra stuff, and this way I’m OT (an unexpected sporting event) protected.
Whatever you use to edit the show recording will edit the podcast mp3, no?
Well, Lamont’s officially in.
Soledad O’Brien proves you don’t have to be a bottle blonde to be a bubbleheaded tool of the RNC (video link).
it’s funny, when i program replay, and go to ktlk, i have been programming it on west coast time, i.e. 10p to 12m, or 10p to 1a, so far it has worked so i guess it hits the right time zone. regarding the mp3 from aar, i guess its in itunes somewhere, i will have to try to find it thru wavepad, and i guess it would come up….i also think the replay has been interfering somehow with the podcast. if it is on, it won’t come thru, but if it is off, it automatically comes thru when i go into itunes. i have no idea what the glitch is….
Pj, you’re a freaking genus – you are my “favorite mr science guy.”
O”Brien is an idiot. she was shitty on nbc and she’s shitty on cnn.
Wow. I don’t remember Soledad being nearly as interrup-ty when she was at NBC. Must be the perils of working cable news… maximum noise combined with minimum thought.
One would think it would behoove her to be more gracious to a future president. She might want an exclusive from Feingold one of these days.
Even if the censure effort doesn’t get far, good on him for having the initiative and guts to do it. And if he gets some publicity as a result, so much the better.
SOLEDAD SILENCE!!!
IMPEACHMENT!!!
VIGILANCE!!!
:fire::fire::fire:
glad otis may be home tomorrow night. the feeding tube thing kinda freaks me out, though, I’ve gotta tell you.
You should have a default directory for your iTunes stuff. In windows, I think it puts it in, like, My Documents>My Music>iTunes by default, but there should be a place in iTunes where you can set/view the default directory. I dunno what to tell you about the other stuff; it’s strange. Maybe iTunes doesn’t like that you have other stuff installed. I used to have iTunes installed on my computer, but I really never liked the way it worked for grabbing podcasts, and I have no desire to buy anything from them. If I’m going to pay for something, I prefer to be able to have control over what I can do with it, though I suppose they’ll take it all away from us sooner or later.
pj, thanks again for letting me draw from your well of knowledge. i was up at five today so my brain is muddled now, will get into it tomorrow. and to everyone else, so far, what do you feel have been the best bits, that have already been some great ones, including some great riffs, wonder if marc does them off the cuff….
Me, too. Not at all what I expected. I guess I thought they were going to send him home “all better.”
Fortunately (or unfortuntately, for her), a good friend of mine has had experience with this and has offered her expertise. I’d completely forgotten about it, but I do recall her telling me at the time that she learned some “tricks” that made it easier. Her Ralphie was a good cat, too–but ultimately he couldn’t beat the cancer, poor thing. 😥
I just got a weather report from mr “somewhere” in Iraq – he called to tell me to keep my eye out HERE in about four hours as we may have some trouble. heh heh
Some nasty booming going on here right now, FK. Damn t-storms scare the poor dog, plus when the power went out earlier it screwed up either my Azureus, or my JRE, and now I have to figure out how to fix it. Or them.
I use Replay Radio AV to capture the stream of Marc’s show and I burn a disc of the show to import into Itunes on my Intel Imac. I’ve never had any trouble with Mac products. The learning curve isn’t that difficult to grasp. Mac software is bullet proof and stable unlike windows machines which I’ve owned most of my life. I got tired of crashes, spyware and viruses and bought a Mac. My first one was a Power PC G4 desktop. I now own an Intel Core Duo 20 inch Imac. I’ve downloaded a few podcasts of Marc’s show before purchasing Replay Radio AV. Never had any of the type problems trickster13 is reporting here. So I can’t offer any insight into her problem. Prolly something simple I suspect. Like it or not it usually turns out to be something I’m not doing right that causes the problem than the Mac software I’m running. When in doubt visit Mac’s support groups @ Apple.com. I’m looking forward to tonights show. I think someone said that there are no Clippers games this week. That would be nice. TTY guys later PS. Click my name to visit my site and hear a clip of Marc talking to a prostitute about the Oscar Awards. Go to the Podcasts link on the Navigation bar of my site to hear the clip.
thanks for your comment cnickthomas, i don’t have any idea what the problem is, and as i am not the most tech savvy, it all seems very mysterious to me as to when it won’t work, and then all of the sudden it does. i will say that since marc has returned to the airwaves, i have learned many many new things about my computer, and i am a girl by the way, and didn’t you just love the oscar review, i thought it was great….
Sorry about the mistake in gender. I usually don’t have that kind of problem. lol. I edited my entry 101. And “YES” Marc’s show makes me smile and gives me hope that our time will come again soon.
Just out of curiosity, why do you have to burn a CD to import into iTunes? Or is just that you want a CD?
Replay Radio AV is a Windows only program. I’d looked for a Mac program but someone here recommended Replay Radio AV. Since I have a Dell laptop pc I decided to purchase Replay. I could use my windows machine to import the capture into Itunes on my windows machine. But I prefer to edit Marc’s show with Logic Pro, a Mac only program. It may appear convoluted, but it works for me. At least until I find a good capture program for my Imac. I just noticed bad weather just west of Birmingham and moving in this direction.

Tornado Warnings just west of the city. :omg:
Oh, I guess I just assumed you’d have them networked together.
Have you looked at iRecordMusic?
Yes I have the machines networked, but I can’t seem to connect to my Windows machine from my Imac. I know its something I’m overlooking cause I was able to connect with my G4. I just haven’t had the time to work on this issue yet. Never enough hours in the day I’m afraid. N e suggestions would be greatly appeciated PJ.
THANKS PJ I appeciate the link to iRecordMusic. I’ll check it out
Well, I’m not exactly a Mac expert, and I don’t have one around to play with. I used to have to support a couple of them at work. You need to have file sharing enabled on the windows box, of course, and I think you need OS X Tiger. If you can’t connect, you might want to set up an FTP server on the laptop, and make the default folder your ReplayAV record folder. Then you can just FTP over to it. Or, use a USB drive. Of course, it’s probably even easier to just install a BitTorrent client on your Mac, and get the shows that way. Actually, you can install something like Azureus (it’s written in Java, so is cross-platform) on both boxes, and then use BitTorrent to transfer files back and forth.
thanks PJ for the info
Hey, let’s hear it for those spineless weasel piece of shit Democrats! They’re just fucking great. :fustrate:
Yeah, I’d prefer you solve the fucking problem too, you asshole. And the problem is spineless groveling losers like you. :fu:
Assholes. Have I mentioned today how much I hate these people?
I hate them too, pj!
They should try doing the right thing sometime.
I hope Marc is able to get an interview with Feingold, even if it has to be taped.
Feingold, one of the very few Senators willing to come on MS. And, I think the only one that came on several times.
most senators wont go on any show unless its for a specific purpose- and its usually an underhanded purpose at that.
not to mention so many so called “democrat” senators cant handle being on AAR.
Could someone post the streaming url for listening and recording the Marc Maron show? Thanks
Hey, under MULTIMEDIA there is the site for KTLK Progressive Talk. Check it out
I think that’s what you’re asking for. I dunno:doh:
Yeah I’ve been there and do not see the address
This is the streaming address.
idiot dems, i wrote russ a love letter earlier. he’s in a class by himself.
think i’ll write reed a hate letter.
hey cnick, we usually get your birmingham stuff – i’m east of you and wee bit south. tornado watch one county west of me.
pj, you sure have been having alot of thunderstorms there lately (it seems)
[Just watched the Sopranos :omg: i’m hooked all over again.]
did anyone post this?
Why did J. Kenneth Blackwell seek, then hide, his association with super-rich extremists and e-voting magnates?
Hi everyone!
CK, Ive found that in these sorts of things they often end up not knowing why this or that happened. I find that so frustrating, but vetrinary medicine is pretty limited. With the amount of animals Ive had over the years and most of them being rescues, Ive been through this so much….and the answer is always to get the animal home as soon as you can because no matter what is going on they just do better at home…But then its very scary because you end up on the floor next to their bed making sure they’re still breathing all night and with a screwed up back.
Just try to plan to make the bed bext to your bed…also ask the vet to sed you home with a tube of that nutracal just so you can have it in the house for when the tube comes out.
Its so hard to go through hell and come out on the other side no wiser about what happened and if you can avoid it in the future…maybe it was a allergy…? God, if they could only say for sure so you would know. Some animals just react badly to surgery and anesthesia, throwing the balance off for them…they are so little and they crash so easily!
Anyway, Im so glad that Otis is coming home!! Yay!!
PJ- thanks so much for the sauna info. I actually read the blog when I got home, making notes by cutting and pasting everything I want to research.
Ive developed some sorta muscle problem since Saturday and I was just gonna go in the sauna but I ran out of time.
My chiropractor told me to do some sorta heat when I got home, that I had pulled the muscles all around my ribs…maybe cleanig out the basement for the workmen tomorrow or getting ready for a bed delivery over the weeked.
I went to the gym anyway….and FK, I also do pilates reformer, and have been doing it for aorund 5 years religiously…
But the sauna thing is also highly recommended by all the lyme people who believe that it cleanses the body of toxins.
I prefer the steam, but everyone is so sick here and hacking like hell so I am afraid to even go in there…seems like a germ world round here!
I want to look into a sauna…probably dont have the room for it but maybe I could put it in the basement or something.
The Otterbox is something worth looking into for sauna or swimming with the iPod. You can even get waterproof ear plugs phones…very cool! My favorite are these little IRivers which cost around as much as the otterbox itself and can hold 1 gig just for wet sports or sauna and steam…but they are very small unless you have a Nano.
Im gonna call lieberman etc…tomorrow, but I dont expect much. I already had an argument with the Naral folks…because of the ever present problem of who to support…its a tough problem and we’ve got to keep remiding these people that they work for us…but I feel like just when we have a chance, we all run in different directions.
I need to spend a little time researching this Feingold thing. On one hand I love it and IM ready to stomp some faces…on the other hand, I wonder if we have the votes or power to get this done, or if he just wants it on the record…but why not wait until we have the votes to carry this through to a real conclusion? I know that our party is full of weenies who will not make a move without the power all in a row. Most of these guys seem to be followers rather than leaders…and that is something to change…but as it is now, how best to make the record reflect what happened so that history knows this time and what has happened?…and so that it never happens again…ha!
Too long, I know…maybe cut it up?…too tired….
need sauna….
yes, I LOVE Billy Bragg!! My son and I were in the car listening to Rachel this afternoon and he was singing all the songs with perfect recall of lyrics and cockny accent…and then Billy didnt sing!!…how could he not sing? And Bobby and Pap scared the crap out of me again…especially about the nuclear power plants in our back yard. They sometimes have such good callers!…who eeds guests with callers like that guy from NYC?
Trump just fired the big booby blonde…and she deserved it!
Have a great show tonight, those of you who are staying up for it. I am replaying from 1-5AM EST, and hope for the best.
If IM up for some reason I will look on the Maron blog…but never seem to get over there to do much more than ready his little thing each day.
nite nite
Well I can’t get this iRecordMusic thingy to work!!! Thanks for all the info PJ, but I’m to stupid to figure this thing out. Any Mac users in here? Any Mac users recording the Ktlk stream on their Macs? With what? iRecordMusic? :fustrate: Maybe this is why I choose Replay Radio AV! Melina I hope you saw my post in regard to your comments and questions in last nights post. I posted just as you were off to bed. The storms have passed us by now. Well I guess I’ll just keep using Real Radio AV. Damnit to hell
Record CO2 levels. Yay!
PJ- is it something like this?
There are also many steam room sorta things…but that is something I’d like to have, as opposed to something I need!
Yes, CNick I saw….did I say cute?…funny….:rofl2:
I dont use a Mac, but I do find myself with one in the house that my son uses for his school…and we both dont like it much….I will try to get to know it better but not beig an artist or musician, I dont really need it…and I’ve found that my PCs are very stable as long as I have a good amount of memory and keep the adware at bay… I also can take it apart and put it back together…BUT I cant seem to get a good network going and to hold itself in place…the printer is breaking so screws up the settings that let it be shared and then the shared folders come and go….but I dont think that any of that is due to instability…rather, age and mistakes, glitches that come from constant input and adjustment by interet phone, breaking down laptop, Dogs jumping on top of keyboard enough times, etc….Anyway….thanks for the info on what youre usig on Macs. I am keeping notes on all of this because it will definitely come in handy, if not for me, then for someone down the line who is using Macs for this or that.
Also I have a good friend from NYC who is a Mac person through and through (actually hes in Austin for a few months because his wife is a travellig neonatal intensive care nurse..) and he is a graphic artist who is able to work remotely. So, he knows alot about the graphics end of Macs (makes my christmas cards every year and stuff,) Ive been with him through his learning curve on this stuff and worked on alot of CD covers and some web sites, just in dealing with clients (my skeevy musician friends mostly) and getting the concept down when he was starting out. So, for that end I have a bit of an outlet, and I love the fonts that hes found…thats where I started with the black sites too…But even with that, I never found the Mac to be very intuitive or friendly in the way that my dad taught me (he graduated MIT as an aeronautical engineer before becoming a film maker) which was to take the thing that you dont understand apart and put it together until youve got it figured out. The actual circuitry of the boards and chips, and the wireless thing is still beyond me, like magic of some sort, but I never found Macs to be very friendly to opening up and messing around inside….
My father had never really been familiar with movie cameras before he graduated college, when my grandfather got him a job to go to Israel and shoot some film…. well, he took the camera apart and put it back together until he knew it, and then proceeded to Israel, made a film, and came back and won an award for it…go figure.
I know that PCs have problems but there is something very real and down and dirty about them that I like. They also are not cute in that way that apple is. I find that a little grating. But its probably nurture rather than nnature…its what I had first because my father gave me his old b&w Toshiba laptop and I went on from there. UConn, strangely uses PCs for everything….so, Im lost with my son’s mac laptop. We want to sell it when hes done with this school and get him a pc notebook.
Ok drifting here….nite all…
off to bed…
fingers crossed for Marc and the sklippers……a quick lose, right?
Yep, we have the two person one. Takes up less than four square feet of floor space in our basement. And the dog can sit outside and look in the window, trying to figure out why we’re sitting in a box when we could be out taking him for a walk.
Thought you might find this story on the Pirate Bay torrent site interesting.

Please note that contractual obligations prohibit us from streaming pro and college games on the internet. Streaming will be unavailable during the times these games are airing on the radio broadcast.

cnickthomas you still here?
I have been recording the shows with my iMac .
I have been using Wiretap Pro- (thanks Melina) unregistered so the AIFF files are really huge. I was able to convert to MP3 with iTunes and shrink the files down a bit.
I also sprung for AAPremium so I can get the podcasts so maybe I can use to record This American Life bits.
The latest Air America email says nothing about Marc. This disturbs me.
My best to Otis. I have two very dear human friends in the hospital- one in Boston, one in Vermont. :paranoid: And I am fretting in Seattle.
I’m very worried.
Had a flat tire in my garage this afternoon—heh heh. decided to wait till tomorrow to call AAA- I gave it my best shot but couldn’t get the friggin’ lug nuts to budge:jason::fu: and didn’t fancy breaking my foot.
