You know, even though we all believe our President when he says everything’s going great in Iraq, and it’s all just the media’s fault, reporting on the bad news, it’s sometimes hard to understand what he means (since we can’t all be as valiant as Laura Ingraham, and be escorted around camp Victory and all the other really swell places over there). So, here are some photos that show our glorious leader’s handiwork. Flash required. Hover your mouse over the the “index” in the lower left corner, and then click on the photgrapher’s name to enter their gallery. Hover over “caption” to get a description.
We’ve done so much for the Iraqi people in just three short years. I can’t wait to see what Iran’s extreme makeover will look like.
First!
(Can’t sleep.)
Wow. Looks like I’m still the only one up.
🙁
I’m bored! (Can you tell?)
I was up half the night coughing, and then around 4:45 Elwood “playfully” sank his teeth into my bunion (my foot must have moved suddenly under the comforter, always a dangerous thing), so I came downstairs to hang with Otis.
I don’t feel like watching TV (even June Allyson’s overacting can’t keep my attention, FK!) or listening to da show . . . I just spent the better part of an hour looking at Albany real estate. That’s a real time-sink for me, but I want to keep my eyes open should my dream house come on the market.
Hubby says if his son’s music career takes him to California sooner rather than later, we can head upstate earlier than planned. (It was our 10-yr plan in 2000 to purchase a second home upstate, even if we could not move there full-time.) It’s not exactly financially feasible right now, but if we manage to make the necessary repairs to our current house AND SELL IT (if stepson heads west, that is), then we can move to greener (or at least colder) pastures.
We actually stopped by an estate sale when we were up for a day in December where the house still had its for sale sign up. I totally fell in love with this house! It was a state-of-the-art one-floor ranch–circa 1964. Original appliances, pristine wallpaper–I don’t know how they managed to preserve it. Beautiful built-ins. I was plotzing! (I felt like Natalie Wood in Miracle on 34th Street when she sees the house in Lake Success and starts shrieking to be let out of the car.) We didn’t see every room (it was an estate sale, after all), but what we saw was gorgeous. I called the broker just to find out what a house like that goes for in Albany. I almost choked when she told me ($225K); and in a way I was relieved when she told me it had been sold. But now I’m more hooked than ever!
Okay, I’m gonna stop posting now and see if anyone else is here.
Nope, still just me.
Well, hubby just came down so at least I have someone to talk to!
I ended my Friday evening listening to Thursday’s show. Mr. Farmerkat’s closing remarks and Marc’s sending his love to Farmerkat were, for me, two of the nicest moments in talk radio in a long, long time.
I was reminded of the time Riley’s daughter called the show to say, “Happy Birthday Daddy!” The love in her voice and Riley’s response would have had me in tears had I been listening to the show in a place where I could have gotten away with it. I was so happy for Riley to know that he had such a beautiful family. I realized then that, to me, Riley was not just some radio talk show host, he was someone I really cared about.
Although Thursday’s show wasn’t the first time I had realized this, the feeling was the same – to me, Farmerkat is not just some blogger whose name I recognize……
To Farmerkat, Mr. Farmerkat and Marc, :gate::fire::fire::fire:
morning!
wow, thanks so much tom, pj and really, everyone. You’ve made me teary.
who’s chopp’in onions?
hey ck, sorry i wasn’t around to keep you company. I love that you fell for the authenticity of the ’64 ranch house; most folks would walk in and want to gut it and turn it in to a McMansion.
not going to be able to listen to last night’s show right away…where is brendan p going:?: 🙁
uh oh, rummy won’t like the conflict:
That’s really my fear, FK. The Realtor said that most folks shopping for homes up there don’t appreciate the vintage aspects . . . I wanted to go out and try to win MegaMillions just so I could offer the new owners twice what they paid and preserve it myself!
man, if just one of us blog meisters would win the MegaMillions, we could change the world – preserve houses, buy radio/tv stations, support REAL progressive candidates. (I suspect we’d have to start playing first, though. 😉 ) Guess we’ll have to keep doing it the old fashioned way (you know, that way many Repbulicans don’t understand…..WORK).
‘Morning, Seditionists!
Where the HELL is my “premium” podcast of last night’s show! Grrrrrr….
Still not fully awake, but I need some funny!
I feel like I missed Mr FK’s comments on Thurs’ show. It did kinda feel like the mp3 was short; gonna go and listen again.
No, wait. Damn this “Old Timer’s”! I didn’t listen yesterday!
Spent yesterday walking around Center City and the colonial site of Philadelphia. My hips hurt like hell. Made hubby turn on the hot tub, but then I fell asleep on the couch.
Made my first visit to the Constitution Center. Not a pretty building in the least, but chock-full of neat stuff. I am so much in love with this country and the ideals it was founded on, I get choked up. Who let that cat in here?
There’s a presentation there that chronicles in a flashy manner how Free Speech has been used through the 2+ centuries of the Constitution’s existence. I even saw a few “No Blood for Oil” signs in it. Who’d’ve thunk it?
Got a compact version of the Constitution to carry in my pocket next time I fly. Or try to.
Yeah, damn show went and started early last night on me. I listened live for as long as I could stay awake, but I hope there’s a full three-hour (or whatever it was) show out there somewhere.
Guess its back to being “premium” with the quotes again.
Danny Goldturd has graciously agreed to host a conference call and maybe listen to all “premium” member complaints. The link is here.
Bob forewarns that everybody should be asking nice questions and should not be bitching about timely podcasts . He is asking for “constructive criticism” when Goldturd used “destructive decision making” to kill the best morning show :mad::mad:
Y’know, I don’t really care how quickly they get the show up on weeknights. I listen at work, and usually it’s been posted by the time I’m ready to listen. But on a Saturday morning, I want my goddam podcast already!
PJ, I still have my Replay set for the early start time (11:30 EST). Let me see if I have the whole thing. Any idea when it started/ended?
I am so far behind in my listening, it’s ridiculous.
Its a shame, that AAR was never ready to handle “premium” in the first place and I think they screw up specially with the podcasts of Marc, the one which is in demand. I dont think they have any clue about when the show starts when some whackjob basketball team from LA starts playing unannounced (for some reason KTLK has this pact with the devil to play ball for any game that happens for any team from LA). KTLK needs to be followed more closely to determine the timings of the show. This is becoming a nightmare :rant1: without getting any sleep.
Help get Marc on the air in Phoenix!
On March 1, 2006 our Air America Phoenix station was taken off the air by a Religious Broadcasting company. This was a “dark” day for progressive talk radio in America. You have flooded us with emails pleading to get us back on the radio and asking how you can help. We have heard your cries. Our goal is to be back on the air on April 3rd, 2006!
A deal has been negotiated with a local station and the final details are being ironed out! Our Freedom Express is running on schedule thanks to your generous support. But the battle is not yet over. We still need your strong support in the next few weeks to make our dream come true. It is very important to get as many people as possible involved at this critical juncture.
http://www.saveairamericaphoenix.com/
I talked to Jeff Farias, producer from KXXT AAR Phoenix, and asked if they would be carrying The Marc Maron Show and he said that yes they would be carrying the whole AAR line up. If you would like to donate $5, $10, $20 or whatever to get Marc onto the Phoenix airwaves, please make a note on your contribution that you want it pooled with other Seditionist donations. I am not sure if it’s possible to make a note like that with paypal so send it snail mail for now. The pool of contributions will go to purchasing pixels on this http://gotstation.com/ site and I’m hoping to have a Marc Maron Show logo to use for it.
The President, First Lady and Dick Cheney were flying
on Air Force One.
George looked at Laura, chuckled and said, “You know,
I could throw a $1,000
bill out of the window right now and make somebody
very happy.”
Laura shrugged her shoulders and replied, “I could
throw ten $100 bills out
of the window and make ten people very happy.”
Cheney added, “That being the case, I could throw one
hundred $10 bills out
of the window and make a hundred people very happy.”
Hearing their exchange, the pilot rolled his eyes and
said to his co-pilot,
“Such big-shots back there. Hell, I could throw all of
them out of the
window and make 56 million people very happy.
Tattoo You!:omg:
I’ve got last nights show uploded to the podcast page of my site. Yeah, it must have started early! Damn-it-to-hell! To bad cause I missed recording anything immediately following the clippers game up to the 10:00 o’clock hour (Pacific Coast Time). Go here to listen to the show,

Enjoy folks!
Podcast’s up on “Premium”. FINALLY!
Bush’s Divorce from Reality
Impeachment or Resignation: Pick Your Poison
By RALPH NADER
Attention please, good people! Adjust your routines and come to the aid of your country, and your children with your thoughtful patriotism. Don’t just hope for impeachment, demand the resignation now of the mad hatters in the White House–George W. Bush and Richard Cheney.
Already, a large majority of you do not consider this shifty duo trustworthy. By more than two to one you disapprove of Bush’s war in Iraq. Similar majorities believe this is also a President whose administrative incompetence–note the post-Katrina debacles compared to his promises last September in that devastated New Orleans–nearly matches his penchant for daily fabrications.
The precipitous drop in Bush’s polls (Cheney’s are even lower) is not coming from liberals who long ago registered negative in these national surveys. The drop is coming from millions of erstwhile Bush supporters, Bush voters, Bush-loving conservatives.
Why? Just look at or read the news every day. There goes Bush and Cheney insisting that conditions in Iraq are getting better and better, when they are getting worse and worse. And Americans also know this because hundreds of thousands of soldiers and other personnel are rotating from Iraq back into every state and community and telling millions of people the truth…
http://www.counterpunch.org
Hi cnick, Are you on a MAC? My friend in Chicago has been going through hell trying to find a way to listen to the show. I think she finally found a way to record it. But I was gonna send her to your site.
The emergence of global outsourcing enormously complicates policy issues, both intellectually and politically. The ability to outsource worldwide calls for new forms of international regulation because it undermines the effectiveness of many existing national arrangements. Yet, construction of an acceptable regime of international competition must be accomplished in a political environment lacking effective institutions of international economic governance and in which national governments are weakened and corporations strengthened by the enhanced mobility of capital.
Beneath all their snide, pseudo-populist Bush-bashing, liberal-left “realists'” refusal to advance policy in accord with the wishes of the citizenry places them closer to the aristocratic sentiments of Jefferson’s authoritarian opponent Alexander Hamilton. For Hamilton, “the people” were a dangerous and ignorant “beast” – a wretched rabble inherently unfit to rule. That “beast” needed above all to be contained and properly “represented” in the corridors of power and policy by more “expert” and worldly superiors from the privleged and propertied elite.
Go to almost any supposedly “leftist” U.S. college or university today and you will learn that those more astute superiors include much of the liberal professoriat, whose bolder sorts like to lecture genuinely radical (and often therefore marginal) academicians and students on the sentimental silliness and childish naivete of
contemporary anti-war activism.
good morning good people!!!
Thursdays show still has me all warm and fuzzy-It felt like a family show-didn’t it??
Anyway-my pc or server has been pooping on me the last two days–and there is a riverboat-sternwheeler trying to park in the yard.:omg:
re: lottery–why couldn’t we pool some money like co-workers often do for lottery tickets–to win money to buy a radio station?
please don’t laugh at me-I’m noy trying to be funny.
i had overlooked this Guardian article marking the 3rd anniversary of the start of the iraq war:
more
Kristpea, YES I am using a Intel Imac. I use “iRecordMusic” to record the stream. I use “iLife 06” to import the recorded show into “Gargageband” for editing and mixdown, then on to “iWeb”. My site is created with “iWeb.” MAC’s rule and they don’t get viruses. Okay, I know we’re living in a Windows world, but we’re living in the Bush concentration camp also. We can have a little fun and push back againt mediocity, can’t we? Go to my site at http://web.mac.com/ofmen/iWeb/Site/Welcome.html, beware of the content in my site. I am headed straight to “HELL” or so says my captors. “Ah, what the f***”
I think it started around midnight, Eastern, and would have ended at the regular time. I just happened to scope out the blog after Bill Maher, and saw that it was on.
If you want to really push back, use Linux. Open source is the way to go.
I’m not smart enough to use Linux PJ, I did load Mandrake onto a windows machine I once owned and it was kinda cool, but you had to use you’re brain to much for that and I’m to feeble minded for that! ha ha. Anyway PJ thanks for sending me to “iRecordMusic” awhile back. Have a great weekend sheeple!
I prefer to be laughed at than ignored.:-(
the idea of a “premium” podcast service is that you can listen at your own convenience. If I can’t complain about their timliness, why join in this talk fest? shit. it sounds like a bush speech to me, weed out the negative, so the salamander doesn’t have to hurt his pretty little ego.
so why can the news channels tell us all the terrible things happening around the U.S. but they can’t tell us what is happening in Iraq:?:
is the pixel thing legit? i’ve heard this & that about it. Looks to me like it needs a firetruck on there.
foggy, thanks for the virtual tour – great stuff!
lottery is cool “SisterTea” . . . but how many of us would want to use our share to invest in a rat hole, i mean radio station! just kidding! besides all that . . . I’ve been playing for over two years now and i’m beginning to think GOD is determined to see that I remain a poor man until he sends me to my afterlife reward in “HELL”. But I’m having fun . . . in the mean time . . .
DG is using the Bush “open” meeting model, I think.
And anyone seen wearing a “no blood for oil” t-shirt will be escorted from the room.
I think the pixel thing is legit-I am having trouble staying connected long enough to check it out-maybe pj, as if you don’t have enough to do, could email me snail mail info?
Well, a group lottery thing would be kind of interesting, wouldn’t it? You’d have to make sure all the dirty little money details were nailed down ahead of time, to avoid any “confusion” later on. I think most people here are trustworthy, of course, but people can sometimes get a little funny where money is concerned.
sister tea, the idea crossed my mind as well. I got mired in the logistics (I’m a recovering lawyer and not fully there yet, so my mind can slip and my head explodes thinking through all the girations of partnership). :billcat:
I seldom play the lottery because I beleive in karma and I don’t play unless I have a good use for the winnings besides the obvious selfish ones.
Exactly!
SisTe, now do tell about this boat thing…metaphor than I’m missing or actual boat?
I know it would be sticky–but there are great minds here that could figure it out- We already have a Daddy [pj] and a lawyer [FK??]
I trust the Seditionists.
Oh yeah–The Northern Princess. Its a sternwheeler on the sandbar:doh:
Well, my lotto-winner idea is to buy up all the beautiful old homes in the Syracuse area that are in areas that have fallen into hard times, renovate them, and work with community and church groups to find families that deserve to have a safe, decent place to live, and rent them at affordable prices based on how much they can afford to pay. I think it would be a great way to revitalize rundown neighborhoods and help decent people out. Oh, and high speed Internet for everybody!
in the Columbia River.
Tou see pj!! That is a very good way to use moneys and I beleive you have a good chance of winning with those intentions.
re #49
would’t it be sweet if tax dollars paid for this kind of stuff?
I’m sure there are failed, unfunded programs..
So let me get this straight . . . I hate that word . . . so if my intention is to keep the money and use it to buy a 50 inch plasma tv and a hot sports car and a boat and lakefront property, then I will never win the lottery? Can I pretend to have good intentions, then change my mind after I win? hmm . . .
Well, you could set up a recurring paypal payment to one designated person, who would make the “buy.” Everyone who plays would register a set of numbers to use, and, on the day of the drawing, post the list of numbers and those players who are eligible to win. This could be posted to a password-protected area to preserve privacy, if desired.
After the drawing, the winning numbers would be posted (and of course, everybody could check on their own), with any payout information. The combination of paypal and posted list of players should make it clear who’s in, and should be sufficient, I would think, to resolve any legal disputes that might (but hopefully wouldn’t) arise.
You can also play a set of numbers regularly (at least in the NYS lotto), by sending the money in ahead of time.
Well, it aint working out so far. Maybe it’s because I fully intend to build my earth-sheltered home first, before I help anybody else out. I need to lose my selfishness.
Ok wrong boat–it’s the Empress of the North.
Well, there was a HUD scam that Tony Soprano got going, with the help of his corrupt congressman, where they had some guy buy up all these crappy places, and then sell them at a huge sum to another guy (who turned the bulk of the money over to Tony, of course), who got government-backed loans to buy and rehab the houses. Then Tony’s boys gutted anything remotely valuable (like the copper wiring and plumbing), never fixed the houses, and then the loans got defaulted on.
Not that I think anything like that would happen in real life, of course.
It will happen-there must be something you still need to learn first.
Anyway, I guess I just wish everyone has what they need.
And leave the rest??
was that a Dead song?
I might be trouble with faster internet-who news??
I had something more simple in mind like
the moneys sole purpose would be to win $ that would only go to the purchace of a station. No one person would actually recieve cash–shares perhaps–or jobs?
Thats not that simple now that I think about it.
OK then someone out there that is stinkin with piles o money needs to buy a station.
For the basic human good.
I’m going outside.:peace:
if there’s a few seditionists who want to do it, I’m sure we can pull it off. the trick would be to structure it so that once we won, :gate: the agreement would work such that decisions people made would not be self-serving (i.e., a partner can create the options, another can chose between the options). That’s one way to create :yinyang:
ok, I TOLD you my thinking spins like crazy since I’m still in “recovery.” so, you’re idea pj, is a way to play and each person is responsible for their own winnings?
sistea (when you get back) – I didn’t realize you were up there in God’s country!
Hey guys, the Save Air America campaign is legit. It is being managed by previous staff from KXXT. I wanted to post the snailmail address but the site is not opening right now. I’ll try later. Basically, I wanted to maximize my contribition since I can’t afford to give the minimum $100 to get pixel representation. And I thought it would be great to try and get Marc on the air here in Phoenix at the same time. I have been writing the KXXT people about Marc’s show since I moved back and now is a great opportunity to get his show on in another major market. I thought if, enough Seditionists/Maronites made themselves known by their contributions to this fund raiser then Marc would have a better chance at getting a decent time slot when the new station is back on the air. Morning Sedition never had a chance at the old station. When it first went on air just before the selection of 2004, it was on in the wee hours for only a few months then it got cancelled all together here for some more local content. The previous owner of the station was only in it for the money obviously but the people trying to get it back on the air are the ones with the passion for the truth. The new station will also have a stronger frequency than the old one so now the Mexican station won’t bleed through at intersections after sundown.
What’s all this talk about the lottery? If I had real cash I’d by an actual home. Yeah, these apartments are kinda scary after a while. Like, I’ve been imagining the neighbors leaving something on the stove and forgetting about it, and then the whole place goes up in flames-including my original 1968 Jimi Hendrix poster, which I can’t afford to put in a frame- yeah, not good. Or the neighbors Meth lab all of a sudden exploding (I know the fumes have been seeping up from below me, cause I feel kinda crazy:billcat:. the phone is ringing….OK, anyway…where was I. Nevermind, I lost it. Now I’m not sure if I should even hit the Submit button, but whatever.
Not just the fire and meth explosions, but, like, the place is so old I think it just might fall on top of me. Yeah, sometimes I hear it creaking when I’m about to fall asleep and I think Oh, shit, I’m done. It’s over. Then the water pipes start making noises and then I realize that it’s not going to come down from above, but up from below, with water. I’m going to drown here
I wouldn’t mind crashing at a radio station, if you guys had one. That’s all I’m saying.
hey sheeple so i klost my wi-fi last night so i called the show at 1am east coast time and paul answers i think its paul that answers? anyway paul answers and says hey sean youre a little late calling tonight i wasnt very happy i thought it was a regular two hour show! (as if they have a regular show yet!) anyway panera bread is sweet free wi-fi! too bad i didnt find this place yesterday! oh well. so i fell asleep during the show and woke up to the last short order news that sucked i mised todd barry! i wanted to call and make fun of todd barry!
i thought 2000 was the maximum political contribution!

CounterPunch Diary
Why There’s No Strategy to End This War
By ALEXANDER COCKBURN
My local town of Eureka in northwest California had a pretty good peace rally on March 18, to mark the third anniversary of the U.S. attack on Iraq. They’ve put them on every year, including a big one just before the war started. It was a total local affair. An ad hoc group called Communities for Peace worked for eight weeks and, with the help of Veterans for Peace, pulled 2,000 people into the municipal auditorium on F street. There were plenty of young people and the crowd sat a bit restlessly through three speeches before hitting the streets. There were four marching bands.
They headed down to the square in Old Town, next to the rehabbed waterfront, where your CounterPunch co-editor was the designated final speaker. I cheered them all up by telling them no one present should ever look in the mirror and tell themselves they’re not smart enough to run the country. They are. The country is being run by morons.
I read out some of the more spectacular moron predictions from 2003, finishing up with Chris Mathews on MSNBC: “We’re all neo-cons now.” and Vanity Fair’s answer to Clausewitz, Christopher Hitchens: “This will be no war — there will be a fairly brief and ruthless military intervention…. The president will give an order. [The attack] will be rapid, accurate and dazzling…. It will be greeted by the majority of the Iraqi people as an emancipation. And I say, bring it on.” […]

It’s US Policy That Inflames the Arab World
Blaming the Israel Lobby
By JOSEPH MASSAD
In the last 25 years, many Palestinians and other Arabs, in the United States and in the Arab world, have been so awed by the power of the US pro-Israel lobby that any study, book, or journalistic article that exposes the inner workings, the substantial influence, and the financial and political power of this lobby have been greeted with ecstatic sighs of relief that Americans finally can see the “truth” and the “error” of their ways.
The underlying argument has been simple and has been told time and again by Washington’s regime allies in the Arab world, pro-US liberal and Arab intellectuals, conservative and liberal US intellectuals and former politicians, and even leftist Arab and American activists who support Palestinian rights, namely, that absent the pro- Israel lobby, America would at worst no longer contribute to the oppression of Arabs and Palestinians and at best it would be the Arabs’ and the Palestinians’ best ally and friend.
What makes this argument persuasive and effective to Arabs? Indeed, why are its claims constantly brandished by Washington’s Arab friends to Arab and American audiences as a persuasive argument? I contend that the attraction of this argument is that it exonerates the United States’ government from all the responsibility and guilt that it deserves for its policies in the Arab world and gives false hope to many Arabs and Palestinians who wish America would be on their side instead of on the side of their enemies. . .
http://www.counterpunch.org/massad03252006.html
lol old guys creak!:rofl2:
i’m gonna have to remember to stop aging pretty soon!
Hey Sean, I saw Franken here at SU back in 2003. He was pretty funny, but he did the same jokes I’ve been hearing on his show for the past two years. Or, at least up until I quite my day job, and wasn’t in front of a computer at work all day. Since the whole MS thing, I really have a hard time listening to anything on AAR but Maron. Of course, if we had an AAR station here in Syracuse, that would change. I just can’t stomach the thought of paying Goldturd any money for the “premium” service. It seems like everything he’s done since taking over has been designed to irritate me, personally. The XM deal, Springer, Morning Sedition, the “will it be the Clippers or” Maron Show, the $50 for three bumper stickers deal, the Bush-style conference call (and why just subscribers – why not get someinput form those of us on the fence as to whether or not to pay for “premium” service; I might learn ’em somethin’).
The pro- Israel lobby plays the same role that the China lobby played in the 1950s and the Cuba lobby still plays to this day. The fact that it is more powerful than any other foreign lobby on Capitol Hill testifies to the importance of Israel in US strategy and not to some fantastical power that the lobby commands independent of and extraneous to the US “national interest.” The pro-Israel lobby could not sell its message and would not have any influence if Israel was a communist or anti-imperialist country or if Israel opposed US policy elsewhere in the world.
It was actually worse when I was your age and smoked, because I’d either lay there listening to myself wheeze, or wake up to long violent coughing fits. All creaking aside, being older has a lot of advantages. I wouldn’t want to go back to my 25 year old brain again, that’s for sure.
This is sooooo good I just have to share it with you all. I’ve been making this instead of buying pasta sauce. Just made another batch…. 😀
Pardon my interruption 😉

Slave Labor and Hell Ships
Mitsubishi Awaits Judgment on War Crimes
By CHRISTOPHER REED
A Japanese judge is to rule on Wednesday, March 29, in a case that could shame the nation’s leading corporation for using Nazi-style slave labor during the second world war. Yet whereas Germany long ago admitted such crimes against humanity, Japan still evades the issue…

Why Do People Vote Right-wing?
By Ezequiel Adamovsky
Let us face this awkward question: Why is it that, being the Left a better option for humankind, we almost never succeed in getting support of the people? Moreover, Why is it that people often vote for obviously pro-capitalist options –sometimes even very Right-wing candidates– instead? Let us avoid simplistic and patronizing answers such as “the people don’t understand…”, “the pervasive power of the media…”, and so on. These sort of explanations give us an implicit sense of superiority that we neither deserve, nor to they help us politically speaking. Of course, the system has a formidable power to control culture so to counter radical appeals. But we cannot look for an answer just there.
Leaving aside circumstantial factors, the perennial appeal of the Right lies in that it presents itself (and to some extent really is) a force of order. But why would order be so appealing for those who do not belong to the ruling class? We live in a type of society that rests upon (and strengthens) a constitutive, paradoxical tension. Each day we become more “de-collectivized”, that is, more atomized, increasingly isolated individuals without strong bonds with each other. But, at the same time, never in the history of humankind was there such an inter-dependence when it comes to producing social life. Today, the division of labor is so deep, that each minute, even without realizing it, each of us is relying on the labor of millions of people from all over the world. In the capitalist system, paradoxically enough, the institutions that enable and organize such a high level of social co-operation are the very same that separate us from the other, and make us isolated individuals without responsibility with regards to other people. Yes, I am talking about the market and the (its) state. Buying and consuming products, and voting for candidates in an election, involves no answerability. These are actions performed by isolated individuals in solitude. . .

Hey everyone!!…
Bad computer trouble today with a big kernel error. Im now trying to back up my C drive onto an external hard drive. …and then run some diagnostics to see if this hard drive is somehow messed up. That seems to be what the microsoft error box was saying. This is an old computer (laptop)
After not being able to format the thing for the longest time, I think I finally got it to format and took the default partition thing….
Pj or anyone…how do you copy your whole hard drive onto another USB attached Hard drive. Is it as easy as dragging it over and dropping it onto the drive?…seems too easy.
I have to catch up with the blog….
The United States Marines pride themselves on being better than the US Army. They are harder, more gung-ho, and they possess some magic that enables them to do things the US Army can’t do. If this is not true, (as recent events in Iraq suggest), then there is no reason for a separate Marine Corps.
President Harry Truman once stated that Marines; “Have a propaganda machine that is almost equal to Stalin’s.” The Marines have always advertised themselves, but in Truman’s day, they at least had something to sell. The original raison d’etre of the USMC was their ability to carry out amphibious landings on hostile beaches.
The truth is, the US Army conducted the biggest amphibious assault in our nation’s history when they captured the Normandy beaches. And neither the Army or the Marines have assaulted an enemy held beach since the Korean war, over fifty years ago. In every subsequent conflict Soldiers and Marines have fought in the same way, using similar equipment and tactics.
Do we have any jarheads out there?
Any “doggies”?
Hey. I have an idea: Let’s get rid of both of them.:omg:
:nixon::jesus::peace::rofl2:
Evenin’, sheeple…..
It’s really hard to blog about Maron’s show when I’m two days behind in my listening….
Mr. Farmerkat should be coming up soon!
1999 – Prince
I was dreamin’ when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin’
Coulda sworn it was judgment day
The sky was all purple
There were people runnin’ everywhere
Tryin’ 2 run from the destruction
U know I didn’t even care
‘Cuz they say two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999
I was dreamin’ when I wrote this
So sue me if I go 2 fast
But life is just a party
And parties weren’t meant 2 last
War is all around us
My mind says prepare 2 fight
So if I gotta die
I’m gonna listen 2 my body tonight
Yeah, they say two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999
Yeah
Lemme tell ya somethin’
If U didn’t come 2 party
Don’t bother knockin’ on my door
I got a lion in my pocket
And baby he’s ready 2 roar
Yeah, everybody’s got a bomb
We could all die any day
But before I’ll let that happen
I’ll dance my life away
They say two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
We’re runnin’ outta time
So tonight we gonna, we gonna (Tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999)
Say it 1 more time
Two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
No, no
So tonight we gonna, we gonna (Tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999)
Alright, it’s 1999
You say it, 1999
1999
1999 don’t stop, don’t stop, say it 1 more time
Two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
Yeah, Yeah
So tonight we gonna, we gonna (Tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999)
Yeah, 1999 (1999)
Don’tcha wanna go (1999)
Don’tcha wanna go (1999)
We could all die any day (1999)
I don’t wanna die
I’d rather dance
:rofl2::nixon:
Melina, when I have a scab on my knee, I pick at it. I know it won’t help, but I still do it.
As a Mac user, drag and drop copy IS that easy, but I’d use firewire and not USB for speed reasons.
Picking the SmallLimp scab again.
Been off the blog since this morning and only just browsed the newer posts. Looks like I missed a lot of activity! (I was trying to catch up on the sleep I didn’t get last night.)
PJ, I’ll see what I have of last night’s show. I’m ashamed to say 😳 that I’ve been very bad about monitoring the stream captures (ever since Otis got home from the hospital) and the file I thought was last night’s starts sort of in the middle. Like, it goes from a commercial into Marc, midsentence, talking about prions and mad cow. But I was operating on little sleep when I checked it earlier, so maybe I’ll do better this time.
I feel like a bad Seditionist, being so out of synch with Marc’s actual show!:(
)))KONG!(((
Been wondrin’ where you’ve been.
I’m a bad seditionist too, CitK…but I’m gonna try to get into a routine with the podcasts.
isi, does that sauce really freeze well? If so, I’ll make it for the crew and freeze it this week.
Hi KK!
Farm News:
The old man’s donkey (they live down the road) got out….again. This donkey is a Jack and looks like a regular old Jack. He knows how to open his barn door and if the man doesn’t super lock the door, out goes the donkey (he can open the horses’ stalls, too, if they’re not careful. The jack always comes over to my pasture and longingly looks over the fence at my donkey, a Jenny. My donkey is a sex kitten – she’s a beautiful spotted ass. Well, ok, she’s kinda fat and a little dirty, but she IS cute. People up on the road assume the stray jack is my donkey. I had five cars drive down the drive honking to alert me to this damn donkey. I say damn because he is not halter broken and the last time I tried to catch him, I got the rope around his neck, he took off and I got rope burns on my fingers. Anyway, I had to alert other neighbors as well as the old man and we all had to walk/chase the damn jack across pastures, orchard and road back to his house. Wish the old guy would figure out how to keep his donkey in his own pasture as it is becoming a weekly event. Calico thinks this jack is just a little too pedestrian for her taste. Either that or she’s playing hard to get.
Well, my name is a number
A piece of plastic film
And I’m growin’ funny flowers
In my little window sill
Dont you know I’m a 2000 man
And my kids, they just don’t understand me at all
Well my wife still respects me
I really misused her
I am having an affair
With the random computer
Don’t you know I’m a 2000 man
And my kids, they just don’t understand me at all
Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy, proud of your sun
Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy. proud of your sun
Oh daddy, your brain’s still flashin’
Like it did when you were young
Or do you come down crashin’
Seeing all the things you’d done
All was a big put on
Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy. proud of your son
Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy. proud of your sun
Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy. proud of your sun
Oh daddy, proud of your planet
Oh mummy. proud of your sun
And you know who’s the 2000 man
And your kids they just won’t understand you at all

well, mine started at 1AM…so ti was right around when Mishna did that strange thing about the crush on the car guy.
I was hoping that the torrent would turn up with the whole thing.
I thought there wasnt a game last nite….?
Are they just gonna put him on whenever they want to?
I need the windows XP place for copy or backup …for the entire C drive. I have to do it through USB 2…that will be OK…but I need the backup button…cant find it!
I just made a vegetable stew with broccoli from my garden. Jim would be proud of me!
Kahn- happy weekend.
farmerkat- great to hear Mr. on the air.
nine days of constant rain has made me think I’m an extra in ‘Blade Runner’.
i know lots of Marines and Soldiers, and i highly suggest you not mess around nickirose; if you have both of ’em on your ass, you’ll be in a heap of trouble!
Kat-I love the donky news…have you ever had experience with the mini goats? I was thinking of getting a couple of those some day….they seem sweet…
I brought baby parrot, Tweet, home today….much pain in carrying the cage in with the help of two 12 year old boys who werent much help at all…but they tried…and he is the sweetest little thing. The dogs are a little crazy, but being small dogs there is alot of staring and shaking. The bird comes from a parrot store that has 2 huge resident dogs, a cat, a collection of tortises, and tons of parrots and people, so he is sorta nonchalant. Pretty good for an 8 week old! Ive been going every day and woking with him while he was finishing up bottle feeding so he is very tame!
Anyway, between him and my computer and my back in pain…
what a day! Will’s spring break is over on Monday and IM so sad that hes going to be going back on the schoolbus. I love to have him around (when hes behaving,) and hes such a great bird dad!
Off to the swimming pool (’cause I need to be in more water) for my morning swim. Enjoy the weekend.
:rofl2:
have a nice swim, KK
my friend has a bunch of mini-goats, melina. she loves them. One lived in the house part time – took naps with her on the bed! I’d have to add fencing to the four board, so no minis for me – standards only.
ready for your trip, Becky? you can listen to the shows on the plane!
Thank You
First, let me say how much I appreciate every single one of you who have been part of this amazing journey. The hours that you put in, the energy and enthusiasm you brought to this campaign, the affection that you showed me, the encouragement, the prayers, and the trust that you placed in me.
It’s been an incredible experience – for all of us. The fact that we’re all still standing after everything that we’ve been through together is a miracle in itself.
But the biggest miracle of all is you. Whatever the numbers show, you have won. Some of you didn’t even know each other a few months ago. Some of you have never been involved in a political campaign in your life. Some of you felt disenfranchised or ignored or you just had no faith in the political process. Some of you were there two years ago when I ran the first time, and you’re still here.
All of you – old friends, new friends, good friends, best friends – all of you proved something over these past many months. You proved that you are a political force to be reckoned with, and anybody who ignores that fact does so at their own peril. You sent a loud and clear message to the Republican Party and to the Democratic Party.
The Republicans had better watch out in November. And the Democrat leadership had better recognize right now that the real future of this Party isn’t going to be determined in Chicago or in Springfield or in Washington .
You and everyone else who’s been part of this campaign and who voted for me – YOU are the future of the Democratic Party, and you are the best hope that this nation has to reverse all of the wrong directions that we’ve been going in.
I spoke with Tammy this morning and wished her luck. She’s going to need it. Because she’s going to be running against the full force and weight of the Republican Party – not just Peter Roskam, but Dick Cheney, George Bush, Karl Rove, Ken Mehlman and every other Republican leader and every Republican dollar they can get their hands on.
It’s not going to be easy. Compared with the general election campaign ahead, this primary campaign was a walk in the park. I had hoped that I would be the one walking out of that park and into the general election, but I wasn’t.
I was ready for it…I was ready for anything – because I had you behind me. For that, I will be forever grateful and forever deeply and sincerely amazed.
We can’t let whatever it was that brought us all together to somehow get lost or fade away. It was special and it was important because it was real people, average Americans, men and women young and old, with the unmitigated audacity to believe that this was their Congressional District and their country. Imagine that: people trying to take control of their government.
It’s still our District, and it’s still our country, and, at least on paper, the government still belongs to us. We have to take it back. If not this time, next time. If not then, then the time after. Until then, whenever it is, we just have to keep working at it because if we don’t take control, someone else will.
I love all of you, but even more than that, I admire you and I respect you. Let’s not lose what we’ve found. It took too long — far too long — to find it in the first place.
Thank you. For everything.

Randi Rhodes has already dogged Patti Smith. Showed disrespect. Patti dropped her headphones on the table and walked out. Patti is probably fed up with AAR after that.
Hey, Patti. Laura is not Randi Rhodes. She has an analysis that goes beyond M$M Democrats.
:omg:
nite anyone…
PJ…any ideas, Id be happy to know.
I installed the backup utility from the XP home edition disc and for some reason it keeps getting an error when I use the wizard. It may be that it doesnt want to copy to an external HD, but the drive is on the list of what is offered as a place to copy to….
it also doesnt give many details about the error….
Ive got to let this rest for a bit. Ny father is sending me some program that allows you to move stuff…I have to wait for that to come from California, I guess…
Have a great night everyone….

Hey trickster. I’m not really sure, but I think if you’re using the replay program guide to scehdule a recording, it may list the time as pacfic, but it know what time zone you’re in, and so it adjusts it accordingly. If you’re going to set up a manual record, I’d do at your local time. Probably ought to do a test, anyway. I hope that is some sort of help.
Answer to question #2
The minimum play is $1 for two (2) game panels. Or you can play up to $5 on the 10-playcard.
Melina, I use a program called DriveImage XML to back up to a USB drive (by the way, yeah, if you’re using a Mac go with FireWire, because the Mac implementation of USB 2.0 is pathetic, but on a Windows PC, they are pretty much the same). I believe it requires XP or Win 2003. It will do an exact sector by sector copy of the drive (including sytem and hidden files), and then create an XML listing that will allow you to resote everything, or just selected files. The nice part is that it uses WinXP’s shadow copy so that you can backup/restore on a live system, without having to boot to Caldera DOS as many drive image programs do (it will try a volum lock first, by default, and then try for a shadow copy). Besides being free, you can also add it to a Barts PE disk that you can boot off of with a dead or no hard drive (it’s really windows XP, running off the CD), and then do your restore from an external drive.
Another good think to make is a Knoppix disk, that will allow you to boot off the CD and run Linux. This will allow you to go in and examine your file system and run diagnostics (you can even boot off it and change the admin passowrd to get full access of a computer, or if you wnat to be sneaky, go into the SAM file and extract the password hashes to a USB drive, and then run another proigram to crack them). You can even put Open Office on it. When my wife’s hard drive died, she was able to work off it (using her USB flash drive where her work was stored) until I could go out and get a hard drive and install it.
Yet another good thing to make is an ultimate boot cd, which you can use to boot and run all sorts of diagnostics.
I hope there’s some help in there somewhere.
But, no, just drag and drop to copy the files won’t allow you to restore everything (you’d have to reinstall all your stuff, and then copy back the data files.
isi, does that sauce really freeze well?

Shia Death Squads Target Iraqi Gays
Three Years On, Americans Ignore Pleas of Repression Even Worse than Saddam’s
BY DOUG IRELAND
Courtesy OutRage! London
Left, Ammar, aged 27, was abducted and shot in back of the head in Baghdad by suspected Badr militias in January 2006. Right, Haydar Faiek, aged 40, a transsexual Iraqi, was beaten and burned to death by Badr militias in September 2005.
Following a death-to-gays fatwa issued last October by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, death squads of the Badr Corps have been systematically targeting gay Iraqis for persecution and execution, gay Iraqis say. But when they ask for help and protection from U.S. occupying authorities in the Green Zone, the secure area officialdom has carved out within Baghdad, gays Iraqis are met with indifference and derision.
“The Badr Corps is committed to the sexual cleansing of Iraq,” said Ali Hili, a 33-year-old gay Iraqi exile in London who, with some 30 other gay Iraqis who have fled to the United Kingdom, five months ago founded the Abu Nawas Group there to support persecuted gay Iraqis. The group is named for a revered eighth-century classical poet of Arab and Persian descent known throughout Middle East cultures and famous for his poems in praise of same-sex love. . .
This is alarming!:omg:
