Monday again, and I guess we’ll see if we somehow manage to get a full Maron show from tonight. It’s be nice if AAR would stream it (they don’t stream Hartmann’s syndicated weekday shows, I know, but he had an existing arrangement with the White Rose Society – hey, Marc, let’s get your show over there – I’d be much happier paying Ben Burch than AAR). I really hope all the Goldberg-inspired animosity I’ve developed for AAR goes away. Getting Marc’s show on every night for the full two hours in a manner that I can hear it would go a long way towards doing it. I really don’t wanna pay to wait and see how long it’ll be before the show gets posted, and the occasional Franken cam just doesn’t do it for me. Maybe a Malloy cam – it would be downright entertaining to see his face when he gets all worked up. How the hell he can not be on the air in NYC is beyond me. Oh well, enough AAR bashing. Now let’s bash the Washignton Post. What the f*ck is wrong with them? I mean, to have a front page story that directly contradicts one of the lamest Bush apologist (unsigned, too, the gutless bastids) editorials I’ve ever read is astounding (hell, even faux moderate Arlen Specter is making a little noise about this shit – at least until he’s told to shut and go back to doing what he’s told). Did the Moonies buy the Post, too?
God help us all if these people drag us into Iran.
Evening / Morning all.
First!
Yea, those two WP pieces don’t seem to go together. Can an editor publish an opinion without claiming it? Certainly not an honourable one.
:yawn::yawn::yawn:
AAAAARRRRRGGGGGGG I hate mondays.
You can stream Hartman off of AAR’s web site at
http://www.airamericaradio.com/thomhartmannpage . This is a separate stream from the one with Franken and everyone else on it and at the moment Hartman is the only one on it. I think three AAR radio stations on the left coast now carry Hartman’s program live instead of Franken.
Good morning… I’m just reading about how Lieberman is “not ruling out running as an independent” in the state of Connecticut if there ends up being a primary between him and Ned Lamont http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/4/9/214249/1906. Grrr…I am so tired of this Mr. Republican Talking point I don’t even want him to have a chance in CT… I’m even more pissed off at one of my supposedly liberal CT relatives who is just “now” discovering what this man is really about…um, hello? Where were you when he was talking all that censorship and “family” valuez crap back when he was running with Gore? Wasn’t it obvious then? And people waking up late is not even the worst of it, I know so many so-called progressives who are still in an unknowing daze. Wake up sheeple! (Thanx for the rant space)

Rave on!

Mornin’, guys.
Thanks for the conflicting WaPo stories, PJ. They really make me sick. All the President’s Men, one of my all-time favorite movies, was on the other night, and I couldn’t even watch it. They’ve completely ruined it for me. How did the Post go from exposing lies to espousing them?
Hey, CK. How’s Monday treating you?
So far, so good, KK!
It’s beautiful out today (sunny, and will be close to 60), which always makes the trek to the vet with Otis a lot easier when I don’t have hubby with me! (We still have to have his RBC checked while they taper him down on the immunosuppressants. If he continues on track, he’ll be completely off them in about 10 days . . . and, perhaps best of all–from his point of view certainly–he won’t need to see the vet every week!)
And you? How was your Monday?
There isn’t a mainstream newspaper that I can trust anymore. At least not one that I know about đ
-Suzie Joy
Everything was wet. But there were some breaks in the during lunchtime so I got to get all my errands inâ bank, photo lab (last roll from the home trip), post office, and hospital for the yearly health check. Lost .5kg from last year’s check. Dinner was weekend over cooking leftovers.
From the NY Times:
A senior administration official confirmed for the first time on Sunday that President Bush had ordered the declassification of parts of a prewar intelligence report on Iraq in an effort to rebut critics who said the administration had exaggerated the nuclear threat posed by Saddam Hussein.
[…]
The explanation offered Sunday left open several questions, including when Mr. Bush acted and whether he did so on the advice or at the request of Mr. Cheney. Still unclear is the nature of the communication between Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney. Also unknown is whether Mr. Bush fully realized what information Mr. Cheney planned to disclose through Mr. Libby or was aware of the precise use that Mr. Cheney intended to make of the material.
[…]
A separate effort was occurring simultaneously at the White House to declassify a significant part of the estimate by July 18, 2003. It is unclear why that process was necessary if Mr. Bush had already authorized the release of the information.
I have been alarmed about the reaction of supposedly liberal people I know to completely deny what is going on around them. Most of them have stopped watching the M$M because they know its all infotainment, quit reading the paper because it is a right wing rag, quit listening to talk radio because all they think is on is Limpprick and slant head. We had maybe 200 people for the third anniversary of the IRAQ war demonstrations. I mention something I heard Rachel, or Hartman say and they give me strange looks.. I ask them if they listen to AAR and they say what’s AAR ?? or yeah I listened to that once but they are to negative. They don’t know what the state legislature is doing, they don’t seem to think that what the Bush admin is doing is really effecting them. It’s sad that they will never know what happened when Putin raptures them..
Good morning everyone!
I am trying to wake up, which wasnt a problem everyhour on the hour during the night, but somehow my brain thinks that sleep woud be good around NOW!
Maybe we should do a write in campaign to ask AAR to stream Marc’s show….?
Will the entire show be available to premium and therefore perhaps on Torrent?
Well, its a big day here in the Gateway City
Yes, it’s opening day for the Cardinals
And, opening day for a brand new Busch Stadium
Lots of folks dressed in red :santacool:
đ On a sunny 74 degree day
I recently spoke to a progressive who told me they would listen to AAR but “they’d rather listen to music.” As if they can’t make time in the day for both. What do you do with a person like that???? And what about the liberals (or so they say) who come up with the “AAR is just propaganda of the left.” There are a lot of those. I have soooo many liberal friends (their values are liberal, anyway, or they self-identify as such) who just aren’t involved.
:joe::omg:
Tyger Thom replacing Franken? NFW!:omg:
Anchortown weather from Google:fustrate: Oh yeah! 42 degrees
To Fred… regarding those you know who think Bush’s bullshit is not effecting them…I think the saying “If you’re not outraged you’re not paying attention” applies here…recently I conducted a test in a forum to see how many so-called liberals really were, by calling Bush a fascist I managed to piss off a bunch of them. I then went on to compare Bush’s propaganda techniques to that of the Third Reich (with lots of actual proof) and they went on to use the same propaganda brown shirt techniques with me by calling me, of all things, me antisemitic. THESE ARE LIBERALS! It’s all perfectly okay though, I call it weeding out. I’m sending all of those phony liberals to Joe Lieberman’s house, they can consort with the likes of him.
letters and/or a petition can only help… I would love to get AAR stream of Marc. I’m having trouble using the KTLK stream, if it even still broadcasts I don’t even know…
The AAR affiliates in Seattle, Missoula and Minneapolis carry Hartman instead of Franken
Fred…as long as those people vote democratic for the next couple of elections, its not gonna be a big problem. The problem that we have around AAR is that they are not advertising and trying to reach out. As a matter of fact, the Goldfuck administration there seemd to pull back. I dint think that playing a clip of Randi ranting is inviting….There are so many positive ways that they can invite people to check out the network and to become involved in liberal talk radio (and maybe even eventually TV) but a huge billboard in the NYC subways of Al Franken’s face doesnt cut it.
There is too much ranting going on and not enough funny and positive stuff.
The Democratic party has to bring out the plan, which his hopefully a new new deal sorta thing that will be an all inclusive blanket of morals and ethcial decision and remembering who we are. If there was a way to look at a bright new morning or whatever it was that Bush was spouting last time around, we could hook those people and more.
oh well….
Liberals are generally more intellectual than rethugs are but that makes them intellectualize things so they think lots of information, platitudes and talk will lead to a solution to a problem. I have noticed that the things liberals have accomplished have been done mostly by electing governments that passed laws supporting their view point. The response to a violation of the law is to sick the government on the offender. It could be that when they yell “that’s not nice quit or I will sick the justice dept on you” and nothing happens it confuses them.
King George believes he can say and do whatever he wants, whenever he wants for however long he wants.
And, still no frickin’ OUTRAGE from the Democrats and the MSM ??
:omg:
Susan- My thing about AAR, and Franken in particular, is that no matter what anyone might think, the research is pretty perfect.
If the thing is to answer the existing right wing radio liars who bend the truth, you have to have the backup going for you…and, its there….so to anyone who questions if AAR is propaganda, I say that if truth sounds like propaganda then I guess it is…but if you want the truth with footnotes and proof (and somebody who will admit it the seldom times theyre wrong) then thats AAR. The rest is just fluff and lies.
Sometimes, Sam Seder states things in an exaggerated way, and that annoys me, but in general, these hosts tend to really research the hell out of everything (except Riley…sorry, but I still think hes …um…unprepared on the hard issues and also the basic facts.) and that comes through!
I think the democrats realize that the Bush admin has succeeded in seriously damaging the Titanic that is the USA and they really don’t want to be at the helm when the ship goes down.
The Case Against Israel by Michael Neumann
(CounterPunch and AK Press, 2005)
220 pages
ISBN: 1904859461
Â
Munich, directed by Steven Spielberg
Rated R for strong graphic violence, some sexual content,
nudity and language.
Runtime: 164 min, 2005
Â
Steven Spielbergâs film Munich is about Israeli agents who cloak-and-dagger around Europe murdering dark, hooked-nosed Palestinians thought to have conducted the 1972 Munich attack on Israeli Olympic athletes. Is Munich a morally complex film which shows us how and why Israel has to use terrorism to stop terrorism? If oneâs source of history and international understanding and compassion is, somehow, taken from news media such as CNN and the BBC, then the film offers a deep experience on morality and politics. However, if one looks at Munich through Michael Neumannâs book, The Case Against Israel, the film becomes a transparent work in the tradition of American filmmaker D. W. Griffith.
Â
Spielberg is trying to feed us a view of Arabs and the Islamic world that stokes Western governments into legislating repressive laws. This is happening not only in the home of the Magna Carta but also on this side of the Atlantic. For example, the PATRIOT Acts enable agents of the FBI to inspect lists of books that borrowers, with names like Ibn Rasheed, Si Azeedin or Andrew Said, may have taken out.
Â
:omg:
But Fred, if we live in a country of laws and change the laws to be in sync with our principles, why would that make us wimps if we expect the government to enfoce the laws?
That is how things should be done.
I keep getting the feeling that there is a feeling that we should be doing something more basically…and in this atmosphere, I guess that we need to have an underground plan to take out the rethugs because they are so evil and its so illegal…but really, when you come down to it, its the laws that will bite these people in the end….and its the next democratic or liberal president who will spend months and months taking apart all of these things put into motion by the bush administration.
It takes a long time, but it seems to me that basically, these guys dont want to go to jail and are buckling.
The bad thign is that Bush has been so bad that there are thigns that a new administration will not be able to change…but that is where the pressure of the people comes into play.
If Roe is overturned, we will see people marching…
Anything that touches people’s personal lives brings them to the streets. Thats why the administration was so smart in keeping this war as an idea far away and quashing the pictures and news…very smart…
Its only when someone ike Sheehan stands up and says what it did to her that anyone even notices!
What does that say about us?
Melina, I agree with you. Franken is pretty thorough with how he researches and presents his topics. Rachel Maddow is one of the best in that regard also. (Randi: sometimes, it depends on the topic) I tell people to check out the shows, and the rest is up to them, but I can’t open closed minds. The people I know are almost as bad as conservatives in a way, they just don’t want to listen.
-Susan Joy
Franken broadcasts out of Minneapolis!
Hartmann gives those tedious lessons about The Founding Fathers! Those wonderful, rich, slaveowning bastards.
Good Morning everyone,
:joe:
You might be right Fred. Maybe they’re putting their energy into saving themselves a a seat on the life boat. This ship is already going down.
Plus that book of his that Hartmann is always trying to sell… where this new age prophet voice comes on and says something about end times and the last people of the earth must make a stand… that’s a book that Thom Hartmann wrote, doesn’t exactly lend credence to the rest of the stuff he’s saying
Call KPHX in Phoenix and tell them you want The Marc Maron Show to be in the line up. Contact info here:
http://aaphx.com/ContactUs.php
The more streams the merrier!
1480 KPHX Air America Phoenix
So, 1480 KPHX Air America Phoenix has risen from it’s own ashes. In this version, they are playing most of the Air America line up LIVE! Which I think is pretty cool. No Ed Schultz, YAY! And, so far, my favorite part is that The Majority Report is on during drive time! WOO HOO! No more having to endure(which I don’t) Randi’s bad impersonation of Bush while I’m stuck in traffic! So, now I must try and make a big enough stink about Marc’s show so that they get it when it’s ready for syndication. Unfortunately, the previous AAR station replaced Morning Sedition shortly after the election and pretty much no one got a chance to hear it here, so there’s only a couple of Maron fans in the Phoenix area. Never got a chance to build an audience here. So we need help from Maronistas and Seditionistas all over the world to let them know what a cool show it is and that 1480 KPHX needs to pick up The Marc Maron Show LIVE. If you would like to raise the awareness of the folks at KPHX to the numerous and articulate fans they could be picking up in the Phoenix area by having Marc’s show on LIVE, please donate a small amount to the Help Save Air America fund.$5, $10, $20, whatever. Please send it snail mail as I do not know if there is a way for our donations to be tracked if you use paypal. Please include a short note saying that it is to be put into the Seditionist pool and put in a good word for Marc and Jim. The address is:
On Second Thought LLC
28248 N Tatum Blvd B1,#605
Cave Creek, AZ 85331
I have started a pool of donations from Seditionists and Maronites to purchase a number of pixels on an advertizing site here and use a logo for The Marc Maron Show for the pixels. I donated half of the minimum for the minimum amount of pixels(100) and am hoping to at least get the other half(or more) from other contributions. This is a key time to influence the people there. The station just got off the ground today and Marc’s show will be available shortly. The more streams the merrier I say!

Thanks!
Hey Kristapea, great to see you, but I have to go. See you later. ::smile:
Later KK! I’ve been scarce lately.
The democrats who are already in office and the potential candidates we see in play for 08 are not much different from the rethugs who are already in power. I hope they will at least get out of IRAQ. Achieving a balance of power in DC will probably cause grid lock instead of a rubber stamp. Congress doesn’t seem to have the slightest idea of what the WTO, NAFTA and CAFTA have done. The deficit and balance of trade problems are not sustainable and the dems will either have to shut down DOD or raise taxes on every body to solve the deficit and bring all these manufacturing jobs back from China and India if they expect to fix the balance of trade problems. The stupids will tolerate neither so the rethugs attack machine will just annihilate the dems when they got into office.
I hate to beat a dead horse, but, what an opportunity AAR lost by killing MS in favor of NPR with commercials at the same time that Howard Stern left the terrestrial airwaves.
I don’t much care about the so-called liberals (the professionally offended progressive utopians with no sense of humor who think that being progressive means giving your nanny a ride to the bus stop) who will vote for whoever the DLC tells them to. Let them listen to NPR and sit in their driveway with the engine running, listening to the end of some cutesie story. I want AAR to capture a new audience, and entertain them while exposing them to the truth for the first time in their lives.
After AAR left Sirius, I tried listening to their Talk Left (or whatever they call it) channel. Stephanie Miller fart jokes. The Young Turds berating at length a caller who dared to refer to the Bushies as facists. Alex Bennet, calling Marc Maron a lousy comic. Lynn Samuels shrieking. All of them with grudges against AAR. I just couldn’t listen, and so now I have unused Sirius and XM equipment, sitting in a drawer.
Many of the corporate dems are just as bad as the least horrible of the Republicans, to be sure, but John Conyers as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee is all I need to justify wanting the Democrats to take back the House.
Fred, no one said rubber stamp and if gridlock is the only other option then I suppose we’re better off with a dictator….
But maybe its because I went to a Quaker high school, that I think that the exchange of ideas is really important. Its the secrecy that gets us in trouble.
People have to get involved in what their representatives are doing in Washington, and a message has to be sent that they must do what we say.
Of course, we need to re regulate everything and take the big money lobbiest out of this game…and maybe thats inpossible.
It could be that democracy is a big experiment that is destined to fail (like communisim) because it depends on the goodness and honesty of people and people are not really basically good and honest when temptation and power come their way. Even religion doesnt seem to work anymore!
The Young Turks did that? (Berated a caller re: Bushies being fascists). I’m a little surprised – I was listening to that show for awhile, but haven’t lately because of time restraints…I’m actually pissed off at Jenk and the others if they can’t see this administration for what it is…I’m so tired of these pansy ass moderates
At least some stations that carry Hartman live. Most are AAR affiliates.
WTKG, Grand Rapids, MI:

I hope for a huge shakeup…for anythign to get done there needs to be a shakeup in the washington power circles. I hope Liebernam tries to run independent so he can lose more….I would love to have a choice other than him!
If we can take back anything…and I hope for a Canada like knee jerk reaction on the part of the voters…lets see history made and then put these people in jail.
SEAnie: FYI
Hey Krista!! Where ya been??
I don’t mean to be a dumb-head, but Maron radio isn’t really, you know, perfect, either. Morning Sedition was GREAT and, yeah, it was completely idiotic to ruin it.
But ah, Jim Earl’s routine of being out-of-it all the time is just annoying, and Maron’s…well, we’ll go down that road if I’m not ostrasized for this little Seditionist’s rant. TMMS has some kinks, big ones. Maybe that’s why it’s not live anymore- well, that and/or the syndication stuff and the hours were rough; but, no, MS’s hours were like that. Anyway, I don’t know
It could be that a lot of liberals live in liberal states so they don’t see the damage to the social support structures and physical infrastructure that is done by having a prolonged occupation by rethugs. The rethug propaganda machine has so totally corrupted peoples views that they think all government spending is pork and that everyone that seeks welfare or food stamps are just feeding at the government trough. Neither of those statements are of course true but there are even some liberals around here who will debate you on that subject.
Um, should I start apologizing now, before the whip comes out:spank:
Travis, MS was not perfect at all…I agree…but even though I sometimes still roll my eyes ar Marc, he is still the most likely to make me laugh out loud and teach me at the same time. A big part of his humanity is that hes not slick and perfect.
As far as Marc’s content…an MS’s content…I was very aware that Marc was coming in evry early with reference books and research under his arm all along, and I doubt that has changed. The old joke was that Rachel got there at like 2 or 3AM, Marc got there at like 3 AM and Riley got there an hour before showtime. Riley has a life, I know, but he also has a different approach.
I think that Al, Rachel, or Marc would be horrified to not know how many people Walmart employs or little details like that when interviewing somone who made a film about it or is protesting it.
Its a different approach.
I agree with you that its not perfect but I dont lik perfect.
I dont think thats why they went to the studio. I think its purely for the syndication and needing the studio space for the snippers deal but also needing 2 hours of Marc Maron to market to stations.
I also think that Jim is getting better. I hope that the new studio allows for more interaction with the crew. Even Riley oculdnt be totally thesidekick…they really need that interaction. marc is too big and needy for anyone to be able to fulfill that alone and he does so great in those crew situations.
Hey, Travis. I’m with ya, buddy. I think that’s why I’ve been so erratic in my listening. I’m not lovin’ it enough to make myself crazy editing the stream.
đĽ
Fred – You’re right – the idea of the government programs doing anything good for people is a point of contention with even a lot of liberals these days. In fact, lately, that seems to be what a New York City liberal is (I’m from the NYC suburbs): “socially progressive but economic conservative.” That’s the cool new meme around this town lately anyway. The Republican propaganda machine is alive and well in this supposedly blue town. What I end up doing is trying to point out programs that actually help them. Then I get a Beevis and Butthead-like “oh, uh huh, yeah” from a lot of them, or they show their true yuppie colors and just sniff at me
Hey Travis…dont apologize for your point of view. Embrace it!
It takes a very long time for a show to iron out the kinks…no one here is such a die hard fan that we cant or wont criticize what we see…but, being fans and knowing how it was and could be, I hope we’re willing ot give it time!
Marc Maron is still superior to just about everything out there and the show is still very new…I’m not surprised that there are some growing pains, but it will get there. We need to keep supplying them with feedback, though…in a positive way
Hey Suzie, is this you?
I can’t hide from anyone can I? Yeah, that’s me in one of my Goddess aspects, the one that requires HTML đ
:peace:You are brave. I hide behind a moniker. No one knows my name. Well, except pj since I had to register with him for this blog.
I know I’m brave, I just wrote “Bush = Hitler” in a forum and got two death threats. Seriously. I also have some friends over there that kind of post here too and I want them to know who I am. though I don’t know everybody else’s handle here, I assume Sean is the teddy bear guy on My Space. Took me forever to find this place but I’m here. And I was wondering why nobody was posting on the Morning Sedition forum on My Space, now I know why! Everybody’s here :fustrate::rofl2:
Welcome. People flow in and out at all times of the day or night. PJ has done a great job setting everything up. And, there’s lots of helpful info on the right hand side of the blog. đ
Yeah, and I’d have to go and look if I really wanted to know. Plus, you don’t even have to put your name in (let alone your real name), if you don’t want to. Many (maybe even most) people didn’t bother.
:fu:
Idiot!
:growl:
Crook!
Now, I expect the media (NOT) to play all those clips of Bush saying he would get to the bottom of who leaked the information and they would be fired.
If he declassified the information then it was an approved leak, Right?? Or not even a leak at all.
Unbelievable đŽ
I have to love this Bush admits he’s a crook and traitor and congress.. well they are on vacation..err out for recess ( sounds more appropriate) do we really think he will get in trouble when congress come back :jason::fustrate::fustrate::rant1::rofl2::rofl2:
I dunno why, Fred, but your post reminded me of a song from 1776:
Is anybody there?
Does anybody care?
Does anybody see what I see?
The answer here seems to be no.

You can’t make this :crap: up!
Let’s see…
The elections are rigged. The Republicans have “won” the majority of elections (at least, for federal office). Therefore…?
Hey, don’t apologize for not loving TMMS right now- did you ever listen to the early morning sedition shows with elicott? Much of it was excruciating- give Marc and Jim time to hit their stride – its not like their competition is Bob and Ray, or Gene Shepard.
Most of the programming on AAR, to this day, is pretty horrific and its never getting better – who the hell can listen to seder and garafalo shriek into the mike, night after night? I know Bush is a criminal; say it in an entertaining way; better yet, in a clever, funny way. Maron has never had a bad show that wasn’t better than what’s on AAR. And the Satellite Sisters? I truly believe that Karl Rove is footing the bill for that horrific mess. People like that tipped the balance against us in Ohio.
Yes, it’s important to ensure a clean vote, says Rove, and calls up his friend at Diebold to assure that those goons take real good care of the voting booths :hubba: They clean those booths really good, with Windex and everything.
:omg: Say it ain’t so, James Wolcott having lunch with Danny Goldberg!!
Maybe he’s trying to … you know, get some information from him just before he poisons him… though I honestly don’t know what kind of info you could get from the likes of him…
And I was wondering why nobody was posting on the Morning Sedition forum on My Space, now I know why! Everybodyâs here

Welcome Suzie! We’d much rather be here and Murdoch-free. đ
Sean, don’t despair. I finally saw Left Of The Dial for the first time yesterday, and was reminded of the early days of MS and the Marc/Sue drama. Things will get better once everyone settles in and gets more comfortable. Or maybe more uncomfortable.
Mondays off ROCK!
:banana::banana::banana:
Tuesdays back suck, but what can you do. I’ll deal with it tomorrow.
The saying that “it is difficult to sore with eagles when you work with a bunch of turkeys” certainly fits this administration to a tee. I think they are saying I’m god , I’m king here I am and you can’t touch me..( Bush sticks out tong at camera, inserts thumbs in ears and waves..) Maybe he is right ??:jason::fu::eek:
What’s in a Name?
A playwright and author of sonnets, he ceased publishing under his own name in 1593âthe same year that the name William Shake-speare appeared on a manuscript. It’s probably a pseudonym, because hyphenation was rarely used then. And the name points to de Vere. His family crest contains a lion shaking a spear, and, at court, says Lord Burford, he was known as “spear shaker.” (Although some believe that he knew the real Will Shakespeare and simply borrowed his name.)
:omg:
Hey everybody….well, another day…and how are we to take the idea that Bush declassified an active agent to serve his own purposes? The law is supposedly that covert agents receive identity protection for 10 years after they stop active service, and I dont believe that Plame ever stopped active service. When are we gonna find out how many people died because of her outing? Because its likely, considering that she was working on the weapons, that some people got in lots of trouble for knowing her….
hey Nicki: A post over a DU says there is rioting at the immigration rally in Portland.. what is really going on ??
Good discussions today. I am just now waking up, so my remarks have not been very pertinent, so far.
Rove’s comments: This hypocrisy is not unusual for political operators. If pressed, one could wager that Rove would start spouting off about alleged frauds in Illinois and New Mexico. Somehow blame “the other side”. Refer to Machiavelli for guidance.
Rioting in Portland?
What do you expeect in “Little Beirut”? Send those nativists a clear message!
Activists in Oregon saw this creeping anti-immigrant fascism coming a along time ago. Laws have been passed so that there is no “greencarding” and such things. Recently, there have been stories in the press where small town police officials were spouting off about the illegal activities of immigrant workers (drug trade, mostly), but that got no traction.
Why is no one investigating the charges of inappropriate touching and racism by Capitol Police?
http://www.counterpunch.org/
Astoundingly, the media lost no time in broadcasting Tom DeLay’s pronouncement that ethics charges should be brought against McKinney for her “outrageous” behavior. Did they think that a man who spearheaded a redistricting plan that the Justice Department has deemed to be in violation of the Voting Rights Act and who is leaving office because of his own unethical behavior was qualified to make such charges?
But most amazing was Neil Boortz’ bizarre rant about McKinney’s hairstyle on his nationally syndicated radio show. Boortz described her hair as “an explosion at a brillo factory” that made her look like “a ghetto slut” who “shows contempt for the position she holds” Sadly, Boortz’ “ghetto slut” characterization is probably not too far off from how many view McKinney.
I wonder what would have happened if Barbara Boxer had been the one roughed up by the Capital Police.?? McKinney has been a target of the right for some time because she refuses to get in line and kiss Bushes a* like most of the rest of the dems.

[Oregon] State Rep. Jeff Kropf flew his private plane to Arizona over the weekend to help patrol the border against illegal immigrants.
From his destination this morning, he said he spent 101?2 hours in the air in his Cessna 150 Sunday, dodging storms down the coast and then hitting more bad weather on his way inland from San Francisco.
This morning he planned to drive a rental car to the Arizona ranch where the âMinutemenâ were keeping an eye out for illegal immigrants.
The Minutemen is a private organization that is checking the borders because it says the government is not doing the job. Kropf paid a $50 fee, underwent a background check and now is a member of the group.
For four or five hours a day, Kropf said, he along with a spotter will fly over a private ranch halfway between Tucson and the border to check for immmigrants who crossed illegally. He hoped to report any sightings so that they would be arrested.
âIâm doing this because I believe strongly and passionately that if the government is not going to do its duty, […]

Did anyone catch the Sopranos last night? Wedding was about to end…arrogant feds disrupt the honemoon launch…
:omg::rofl2:
Oh, the power of it all.
Kropf works weekends as a radio commentator in Portland, sitting in for Lars Larson, the conservative talk show host. He said he planned to call Larson for daily updates on the migrant-spotting venture and intended to do his radio show next weekend by phone from Arizona.
In the 2007 legislative session, Kropf plans to introduce several bills dealing with issues related to illegal immigration. He said he hoped to gather experience in Arizona to help him understand the issue better.

Have you noticed that most of the “solutions” posed by the right beginning with the “war on drugs” involves the most expensive and least likely to succeed techniques that could be envisioned. You would think they had interests in the enemy side of the battle… hummmm.. War on drugs.. price of drugs goes up.. war on IRAQ price of oil goes up… War on immigrants price of labor goes down but profits go up… amazing isn’t it.

Hey- Joe Wilson is Kieth’s guest on the Coutndown tonight!! That should be good!
The modern economy calls for massive inputs from the government, otherwise it will collapse. In the US–and especially Republicans–the massive inputs have to be done so that the economic spin-offs will not be very beneficial to the public. For example, public healthcare, besides helping the general population, would create bureaucracies that would be hard to shut-off. Drug war programs pose no such problems.
Maron’s blog has been up for about 2 1/2 hours.
I think I’ll try to catch what’s left of the show after the Clippers game.
FoxNews Does Ward Churchill
By TOM KERR
In case you missed it, Fox News’ (so-called) Sean Hannity provided some excellent moral instruction in his recent abusive “interview” with Ward Churchill, who appeared with David Horowitz on Hannity and Colmes (April 6, 2006) following the pair’s George Washington University debate on the place of politics in the classroom.
Hannity launched his assault on Churchill by breaking his word. Churchill had accepted an invitation to appear on the show on the condition that it would focus on the debate with Horowitz. And Churchill had explicitly declined Hannity’s previous invitations to appear and talk about the former’s post-9/11 essay, in which he argued the obvious fact that America is not an innocent actor, an innocent superpower, on the world’s stage…

Iran’s army includes 350,000 regular soldiers (non-conscript) and 220,000 conscripts.
Iran can also call on substantial numbers of reservists as most males must carry out a full two year military service at some point in their lives.
The Iranian Navy has always been the smallest branch of Iran’s armed forces. Before 1971, the Iranian Navy operated mostly US and UK equipment. Over the following eight years, the fleet added more modern American and British-made destroyers, frigates and many smaller vessels, including powerboats and hovercraft.
With the fall of the Shah in 1979, the United States began economic sanctions, hurting Iran’s ability to equip and maintain its military. The Navy was hit even harder than its Army or Air Force, as several of Iran’s ships were laid up. Battles fought with Iraq and the United States during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war sank or damaged many ships and smaller craft.
The 1990s saw Iran add patrol boats, submarines and surface-launched anti-ship missiles. In place of Western equipment, Iran has been buying from Russia, China, and North Korea. It has engaged in naval exercises with Pakistan and India.
The overthrow of the Shah by the Islamic Revolution changed the organization of the Iranian military. The air force itself was decimated by purges and many pilots were removed or left the country. This left the air force ill prepared for the Iran-Iraq War. Due to strained relations with the west, Iran had to procure new equipment from Brazil, Russia and the People’s Republic of China.
Since the Revolution, the exact composition of the IRIAF ( IRANIan Air Force) is hard to determine, but estimates do exist. Many aircraft belonging to the Iraqi Air Force took refuge in Iran during the Persian Gulf War, and many were put into service with the IRIAF or taken apart for spare parts.
Due to the continuous spare parts shortages faced by the air force, a decision was made in the late 1990s to develop a local aerospace industry to support the air force.

War in Iran?
I recently heard Noam Chomsky remark on Iran and a possible US attack. He mentioned that it would probably not be hard for conventional US forces to invade and take the Iranian oil fields. Check out David Barsamian’s Alternative Radio.
Environmental groups play ball with Big Government (and lose)
The politics of “lesser evilism”:
http://www.counterpunch.org/frank04102006.html
Since China gets like 60% of their oil from IRAN I think that it suddenly will become quite difficult for the US to invade IRAN and do anything to their oil fields.
As these groups consistently pander to the Democratic Party, they simultaneously refuse to hold the Dems feet to fire despite their gross inadequacies. During the 1990s, President Clinton passed the Salvage Rider bill as well as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), both of which blatantly undermined environmental policies in the US and set the stage for Bush’s own forest plan and trade platform. Nary a word was said by environmental groups about such egregious legislation that was proposed during Clinton-time, — but all were up in arms over Bush’s plans. And why is that? As the Democrats have let the Sierra Club and others through their front chamber doors, they have effectively slammed their ideals behind them, holding these groups hostage inside a corrupt political system. Environmentalism has consequently become less about action and more about DC power plays. Could you ever imagine any big enviro group turning their back on a Democratic candidate, despite the candidate’s actually environmental record?
Lesser-evil politics always prevails. . .

The Law Means What I Say It Means
Tinhorn Caesar and the Spineless Democrats
By RALPH NADER
In the name of fighting stateless terrorism, George W. Bush is looming as the American Caesar running roughshod over the civil liberties of the American people who have turned against him in ever larger majorities.
In the name of fighting terrorism, George W. Bush fabricated numerous excuses for illegally invading Iraq and occupying it for now over three costly years in ways that are magnets for the recruitment and training of ever more stateless terrorists. His own CIA Director, Porter Goss, made exactly this point in testimony before the U.S. Senate in February 2005. So too have many retired intelligence and military specialists including those who recently worked for George W. Bush.
More and more evidence of the workings of Caesar Bush are coming to public light. Just this week, in court filings by the prosecutor against the indicted I. Lewis Libby Jr., Dick Cheney’s right hand man, another thunderbolt came forth. Mr. Libby testified that, in the words of The New York Times, “Mr. Bush, who has long criticized leaks of secret information as a threat to national security” himself approved Libby leaking just such information to the press in order to rebut a critic. . .
How many military and naval bases does China have in the Middle east?
But most amazing was Neil Boortzâ bizarre rant about McKinneyâs hairstyle on his nationally syndicated radio show. Boortz described her hair as âan explosion at a brillo factoryâ that made her look like âa ghetto slutâ who âshows contempt for the position she holdsâ Sadly, Boortzâ âghetto slutâ characterization is probably not too far off from how many view McKinney.
Comment by NickiRose â April 10, 2006 @ 5:26 pm
And Boortz is qualified to comment on other people’s hairstyles WHY? Methinks the lad may be jealous.

:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:
I’m sorry Nicki, but Nader still makes me :growl: mad. He could have gotten some concessions from Gore and Kerry and pulled out and thrown his support to the Democratic candidate and we wouldn’t have Caesar Bush. Nader has too much blood on his hands. My mind isn’t gonna be changed on this one.
Cheers :peace:
I don’t believe China has any military installations outside of China but they do have a sizable navy some of which is operating in the Gulf of Hormuz and the Indian ocean. China is connected by land through mostly farm land and desert in the stans and through Russia to IRAN
The US military is not equipped to fight a land war very far from a deep water ocean. Your typical Navy fighter aircraft can either fly about 300 miles round trip and carry 4 tons or so of bombs or can fly 1200 miles around trip and carry 1 ton or so of bombs. The people we attack will probably go on the offensive and loosing an aircraft carrier or two would be an unmitigated disaster.
There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.
The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered
it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.
Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the
boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.
The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the
hand and led him to the fence. He said, “You have done well, my son, but look at theholes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out.
It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there. ” A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed.
They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.”
It’s National Friendship Week.
Please forgive me if I have ever left a hole.
isi. Why are you spouting democrat party propaganda?
The dems would give no concessions. And they won’t as long as people like you are in their hip pocket.
I think these “debates” between the left and the right should all be done in Denver. Colorado has an open carry law so you could strap on your colt 45 and wonder around the streets…. or… walk into KHOW and lay your Ar15 or your AK47 up against the wall and ask “when do we get started”
:omg: I’ve been lurking for a while but begin my blogging career with a tech question. How do I access the torrent stuff on an iBook running OSX tiger?
OBWTL (old but willing to learn in Portland aka little Beirut)
isi. Are you pissed off at Cobb, too? He has effectively killed the Green Party. There is now no alternative to the 2 Big Business parties.
Read Nader’s “Crashing the Party” then get back with me.
Nicki, these are my thoughts, not anybody else’s. I wrote in Ralph Nader’s name on the 1996 presidential ballot because I wanted to send a message to Clinton. But it was abundantly clear to me that horrible things would happen if George Bush was president. Therefore, I voted for Al Gore. I believe I was proven right. Gore would not have started war with Iraq, hundreds of thousands of people would be alive today. Even if Nader got no concessions, he should have withdrawn. He chose not to see the practical implications of taking votes from Gore. I am not alone. Ralph Neas of People for the American Way no longer speaks to him.
:peace: Welcome Wanwenxia
I can’t help you with the torrent question, but there are lots of tech saavy folks here that can!
Hi Wanwenxia.. Torrents are usually handled by a plug in associated with your web browser.. Go to apples web site and see what software is available.
No concessions! Give up? Is that it?
No concessions, and you run the risk of losing elections. It’s power, baby!
If Bush is so powerful, then why is he getting pilloried for his messianic plans for Iran? Why are we able to write such treasonous things on this blog?
Bush is pursuing his policies because the Dems did not get in his way. The Dems are no opposition.
This demonizing of Republicans–they are bad, but Demos are not much better–is but one plank in the Democrat propaganda program.
Corporations Uber Alles! There is No Alternative!
Gore would not have started a war with Iraq because we were already at war with Iraq. Bomb. Bomb. Bomb. Clinton/Blair: WhooYa!
Do you think Iraq would be better off today if Gore was president? How about all of the Iraqi’s that would still be alive as well as American soldiers. How about the Supreme Court Justices’s that Gore would have nominated, the chance that 9/11 would not have happened, a national debt that would not have skyrocketed, an absence of domestic spying, etc.
I guess we just disagree on this issue.
I look to people like Howard Zinn forguidance on the 2-party duopoly. He said something like “the Democrats can provide a ledge to stand on [and the Republicans do not].”
Imagine a massive antiwar movement against a democratic administration. People have a tendency to cut the democratic president slack. But this is not an iron-clad law. Recall the Seattle WTO. Viet Nam-era protests.
Anyway, to jump to conclusion: I want an alternative to the duopoly. It takes time to build a movement.
Away with this tinpot disaster dictator!
:omg::rofl2:
Warriors! Come out and play-ay!
Hey. That’s my movie. MY movie, I tell you.
Palast, a journalist for the Nation who covered much of the election controversy of 2000 and 2004, is weary of HAVA. In 2004, in an article titled “Vanishing Votes,” Palast writes, “George W. Bush signed the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). Hidden behind its apple-pie-and-motherhood name lies a nasty civil rights time bomb.” Palast is worried that in the process of creating this voter registration database, similar purges that this database was meant to solve will occur: “HAVA not only blesses such purges, it requires all fifty states to implement a similar search-and-destroy mission against vulnerable voters.”
Nicki, Nicki, Nickie…you really wanna do this again?Come on….This mid-term election and the 08 presidential election there will be no 3rd party in play. Any 3rd party that throws down will be doing a destructive thing.
Nader is an ass…and no matter what you say and how many articles you post, you will never convince me or any other realistic voter, that it is right to take a chance when we can see a light at the far end of this nightmare!
You gotta take steps to get back to the place where a third party is even feasible.
I just dont want to do this over and over…its not logical.
nite everyone….hope for a torrent of the canned show tomorrow….
Hey there Wanwenxia. There’s a page linked over there on the right with some information on BitTorrent, but the short answer is that you need to download and install a BitTorrent client for your OS, and then go to a torrent site to find and download torrents of interest. This page has a comparison of clients, and which work with what OS. Personally, I use a program called Azureus, which is a Java app, and should run on OS X. I’m not a Mac person, though, so you may want to look around.
You are merely telling me that you drink Demo-koolaid. If Nader is an ass, what are the democrat leaders? Who would not filibuster Alito?
I am tired of this duopoly. :omg:
Corporations, uber alles!
Who said anything about 3rd parties in ’06? Anyway, didn’t the Cobb cabal effectively kill the Green Party?
Corporations Rule! Get used to it.
hey sheeple on a long trip to macon ga just thought i would stop in real quick ok laters everybody!
Yep, up until Cobb, the Green Party was really having a lot of success in US federal elections. Still, I think it’s bullshit that people blame Al Gore for Nader’s loss in 2000. If Nader hadn’t run such a pitiful campaign, he’d have beaten Bush. I’m tired of hearing people blame Gore.
:rofl2:Iâm tired of hearing people blame Gore.
