Holy Thursday, it’s the first day of Passover! I think. I’m really not all that up on the wole religion thing, so if I’m wrong please forgive me. Other than that, I have no idea waht’s going on in the world, except that the Republicans have finally found a big huge scandal to exploit, and that’s that two of John Conyers’ former staff members say he made them baby-sit his kids, run errands, and work on political campaigns. I, for one, am outraged! Oh, there was also stuff about our troops getting sick from the recycled sewage that Halliburton’s been giving them to drink, and Bush burying another Dubai deal in the works, as well as witholding the whole fake Biolab trailer park report, and, yeah, they really are planning on nuking Iran, but goddamn it, somebody better get to the bottom of this babysitting thing!
First . . . good morning seditionists, trouble makers, those bold enough to stand up and speak out for what they believe in! I uploaded last nights show to my site. A short one thanks to the Clippers again! No ones come a’knocking on my door from DHS yet. But I have the sneeking feeling I’m being watched. I’m so sCaRiEd. lol Have a great day ladies and gentlemen. I’m about to. cnick signing off.
Democrats face uphill battle to retake House
Recruitment drive nets some top-tier candidates, but probably not enough
Updated: 5:48 a.m. ET April 13, 2006
WASHINGTON – An 18-month recruitment drive by the Democrats has produced nearly a dozen strong candidates with the potential for unseating House Republicans, but probably not enough to take back control of the House absent a massive anti-incumbent wave this fall, according to House political experts.

We hear this crap every week now.. If there are still enough rethugs who think their congress person is doing his job out there then there are a bunch of people who need to be in a mental hospital.
Good morning! Just opening eyes, but I have weirdly intense desire to change the world today. More than most days. I smell spring, maybe that’s part of it, who knows what I might do? Hopefully will emerse myself headlong in some issues of the day once I’m more fully awake. :fist:
Yup, yup. Definitely the first day of Passover, PJ.
Thanks for the shout-out!
Mmmmm. :joe: Coffee gud . . .
Hey Kevin, what do you think youβd get if you put Cruella and Skeletor in a sweat lodge together?
Comment by Kristapea β April 12, 2006 @ 10:29 pm
A sweaty bald guy with makeup running down his face?
Actually, that sounds like a porno movie that would make me want to never have sex again. Thanks, Krista. :nixon:
Melina, you asked yesterday about the possibility of Jeb running instead of Cruella. His direct quote last week was “no, hell no.” Of course, he’s a Bush, and they tend to occasionally not tell the truth.
Hey citkahn, do you have any of the brisket left? I’m a hungry goy this morning. :sdavid:
I do, Kevin. You comin’ north for it?
The only complaint I have about Rachel are her attempts to be funny by laughing at what we are doing in IRAQ. It may be stupid but it is not funny.. not one bit..

Farmerkat’s doing well. She’s home now (I think she went home Saturday) and blogging from time to time. (She was definitely on the blog Sunday and Monday, if you want to go back and read her posts.)
citizenkahn Thx re FK
and if you don’t mind me asking I have a simple (I think) question re Passover?
I can tell you about a bris :jason:
π
Happy Passover, Easter, Ostara. Fuck Bill O’Reilly and his war on Easter. Just reading about that in Media Matters, no big surprise that he thinks we’re all out to get the Easter Bunny. Not that the man has a clue about the origin of the bunny’s symbolism.
I can also answer questions about Passover… (eclectic Jewish pagan here)…though I’m still trying to figure out why corn (a new world plant) is not kosher for Passover but chocolate (another new world plant) is (I’m actually not complaining)
This makes me so sick
8 million Howard Stern fans with no where to go and Goldfuck cancels the bes morning show on radio…we knew it was happening but now that they are documenting it Im mad all over again!
So, Goldfuck gets to go and collect his $800,000…drain it from the coffers of the network that we need in this country so urgently…and in the meantime his “moneymaking” idea of charging for podcasting cuts off all of those millions of potential listeners…
What a losing proposition this is.
I think I have to write a letter to the board and the new powers that be when I get home. This is just too important…and theyve already watered it down so much…
You really ouwld think that there are covert repugs in the management screwing things up. A kid could do better than this.
Mad this morning and need coffee!!
well, Susan…obviously its because chocolate is necessary for survival while corn is just…well, its OK in crackerjack…Jews are no dummies when it comes to survival!!
Week 2 of peep-stravaganza here!!
:rabbi::sdavid::jesus::rofl2:
Hey, and happy passover to you all…Im only half Jew, and my mom is not the one, so the jews never wanted me, but on passover, everyone is jewish…!! Except for those who didnt get passed over, if I remember the story correctly…lambs blood on the door…right?
I have to call grandpa and see how his passover is going so far. Im sure hes deep into the nytimes and news by now.
Druid, ask away!
I’m running out (another dr’s appt), but I’ll be back later.
Susan, I read something about what’s kosher for Passover vs what’s not KPF the other day. If I can remember where, I’ll post a link.
:peace:
Susan Joy Cheers. The Question π
Aren’t there more than one day regarding Passover? And if so how many? π Thx
CK  run out to appt. π I am asking Susan Joy — and it is simple question π
Regarding Passover: the holiday has eight nights (I say “nights” before the holidays always start the evening before; because of a biblical reference that the world was actually created in the evening. “It was evening then it was morning” or something similar, as I recall.
regarding chocolate: Yes, Melina, I do believe some Jews just sat down and said “chocolate is necessary, we must have it!” I can’t prove it, but you know, some things just make sense! :alc:
King Kong :rofl2: re #14 bris :jason: :rofl2: reminds me of a corned beef and … :jason: :rofl2:

I never cared for the whole “if only your mother is Jewish you’re a Jew, but if only your father is Jewish you’re not” thing, it’s just stupid… but then again the Jews would throw me out of temple if they knew some of my beliefs regardless of the fact my mother is a Jew! Well that’s what I think anyway… yes, something about lamb’s blood to indicate a real Jew on Passover, at least that’s how it is in the Charlton Heston Ten Commandments flick…
Happy Passover to you and everyone, and if you’re not into the religious thing there’s always spring to party about! It’s deeply celebratory just to watch everything blooming now, at least that’s my take…
Susan Joy Thank You for Passover info.

And this day shall become a memorial for you, and you shall observe it as a festival for the L-RD, for your generations, as an eternal decree shall you observe it. For seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, but on the first day you shall remove the leaven from your homes … you shall guard the unleavened bread, because on this very day I will take you out of the land of Egypt; you shall observe this day for your generations as an eternal decree. – Exodus 12:14-17

This sux missing the first hour and not having any other way to get it except paying AAR. I am NOT paying for a substandard service and besides that, $70/yr is too much. How many friggin’ monthly bills can people handle? You pay for AAR and STILL have to listen to commercials(and some pretty damned annoying ones too)
I am trying to get an update about the effort to get TMMS on KPHX Phoenix but “Billy” is not getting back to me. I even went down to the station the other day but he wasn’t there. Now it’s more important than ever to get another stream going.
Sell Your Chametz Online
Since it is prohibited to possess chametz on Pesach, any chametz left undisposed must be sold to a non-Jew. [Any chametz remaining in the possession of a Jew during Pesach may not be used, eaten, bought or sold even after Pesach.]
Therefore, all chametz that will not be eaten or burned before Pesach and all chametz utensils that will not be thoroughly cleaned by then should be stored away.
The storage area should be locked or taped shut to be leased to the non-Jew at the time of the chametz sale.
Since there are many legal intricacies in this sale, only a competent rabbi should be entrusted with its execution.Β The rabbi acts as our agent both to sell the chametz to the non-Jew on the morning before Pesach starts and also to buy it back the evening after Pesach ends.
The following form can be copied, modified, filled out, printed and submitted to your local Rabbi by early morning (April 12, 2006), local time. If you are unable to submit your form to a Rabbi in person, you may submit your form online.
Jewish law require that your chametz be sold by the specified deadline for the location in which the owner will be on the day before Passover.
:rabbi:
Ah, who needs a jewish mother anyway? Ive got my hands full with an irish catholic one as it is!!
(and I did have a wonderful jewish grandmother a long time ago…)
It’s interesting, Sam Seder is an observant Jew. He takes off work for all the holidays. But, his wife is a Buddhist and they have a daughter. But, I guess they celebrate the Jewish holidays.
As a person raised as a Christian, but now agnostic, it saddens me that fundamentalism has taken over so much of the public conversation about Christianity. Back when I was young, the Christian holiday of Easter was glorious. We would go to a sunrise service on Easter Morning and then at church listen and sing with the choir the most beautiful songs. Like Passover, it was a Spring Celebration. That kind of observance still goes on in many churches but a Christian fundamentalism in this country has clouded the goodness of that celebration.
Anybody forget to sell their chametz?

Fundamentalism is pretty much the only kind of Christianity that’s represented in the mainstream media. There was some study – I really have to find the link – that shows overwhelmingly that it’s the only real voice out there, and certainly not representative of most people’s beliefs. Furthermore television stations like ABC are so biased against other denominations that they refuse to air certain commercials for other churches (again, I’m minus the links but I’m running out the house in a couple of minutes and will look later) – I read the blog http://www.streetprophets.com when I can…decent blog about the religious left methinks… I’ll talk to all you guyz later

No more red-eyes for me man- except for the damned pollen.
:billcat:
:crap:
did you go to that cafe i was talking about?
NAh- sorry sean. I had just had breakfast when I read about the cafe. then I had a tight schedule.
I will remember for the next time- I can get myself there once or twice a year. I remember last time having a hard time finding wireless internet and finding it in a winebar during open-mic night. Trying to slip in real quick to send an email.
Huh. Finally found the article I mentioned earlier about kosher for Passover versus non. She’s not an authority by any means, but maybe I like her because I agree with her reasoning?
In my book–and I grew up culturally Jewish, setting foot in temple only with friends’ families–if it’s risen, don’t eat it. If not, fair game. I can make a good argument for whole-wheat tortillas–where’s the leavening in that? (I think that comes from having my bridal shower at a Mexican restaurant during Passover.) And why can’t you eat rice? I used to eat yogurt for lunch and someone actually yelled at me for doing so during Pesach. (I also had a childhood friend who told me I was a bad Jew for chewing gum over the holiday.)
And then there’s the fact that Sephardic Jews have their own rules, which are far more lenient than Ashkenazis’–and, in my opinion, less judgmental.
Anyway, I am not the best-informed Jew I know, but I think my heart is in the right place!
Kahn, thanks for the info — I recently found out about the Sephardic tradition, I’m going to get myself to invited to a Sephardic seder one of these days, I love that style food
The Two-Minute Haggadah
A Passover service for the impatient.
By Michael Rubiner
Opening prayers:
Thanks, God, for creating wine. (Drink wine.)
Thanks for creating produce. (Eat parsley.)
Overview: Once we were slaves in Egypt. Now we’re free. That’s why we’re doing this.
Four questions:
1. What’s up with the matzoh?
2. What’s the deal with horseradish?
3. What’s with the dipping of the herbs?
4. What’s this whole slouching at the table business?
Answers:
1. When we left Egypt, we were in a hurry. There was no time for making decent bread.
2. Life was bitter, like horseradish.
3. It’s called symbolism.
4. Free people get to slouch.
A funny story: Once, these five rabbis talked all night, then it was morning. (Heat soup now.)
The four kinds of children and how to deal with them:
Wise childexplain Passover.
Simple childexplain Passover slowly.
Silent childexplain Passover loudly.
Wicked childbrowbeat in front of the relatives.
Speaking of children: We hid some matzoh. Whoever finds it gets five bucks.
The story of Passover: It’s a long time ago. We’re slaves in Egypt. Pharaoh is a nightmare. We cry out for help. God brings plagues upon the Egyptians. We escape, bake some matzoh. God parts the Red Sea. We make it through; the Egyptians aren’t so lucky. We wander 40 years in the desert, eat manna, get the Torah, wind up in Israel, get a new temple, enjoy several years without being persecuted again. (Let brisket cool now.)
The 10 Plagues: Blood, Frogs, Liceyou name it.
The singing of “Dayenu”:
If God had gotten us out of Egypt and not punished our enemies, it would’ve been enough. If he’d punished our enemies and not parted the Red Sea, if would’ve been enough.
If he’d parted the Red Sea(Remove gefilte fish from refrigerator now.)
Eat matzoh. Drink more wine. Slouch.
Thanks again, God, for everything.
SERVE MEAL.
I find this so interesting. Before humans started their migration and the forming of cultures, races, religions, etc. we were all Africans. So, really the groups we identify with are a rather recent occurrence. I have participated in the genographic project and have been able to trace my deep maternal ancestry 25-30 years ago into Eastern Europe. But, in the end we are all Africans.
:fist:
I like looking at it this way…we’re all brothers and sisters. LOL, African-Americans if you will π I love studies and findings that show us as to be from the place.
I mean from the same place
The thing I find important is that humans (depending on what you consider to be humans), have only been around for about 100,000 years, give or take. Dinosaurs were around for, what, a hundred and fifty times that? Humans haven’t even been around long enough to even see if we’ll be anything more than a tiny little aberration in the grand scheme of things (not even a “period” in the encyclopedia), yet we somehow believe we’re the most important creatures in the universe? We’re so pecial that the earth was just waiting around for us to dominate?
I don’t think so. I think the universe is gonna take a look one day and say, “damn, that was a bad idea,” and smite us with a comet.
In the DVD that comes with the Genographic DNA kit, it follows the Director of the Project traveling around the world and taking DNA samples of indigenous groups. He went to the descendants of what he considers the original humans and he showed their faces and said he could see in their faces characteristics of all the people of the world. And, you could really see it. Wow, was that incredible. Ordinary people who participate are helping to fund the project.
Right, we’re newcomers and Johnny-come-latelys on the planet – not only do we think we’re better than everything else inhabiting the big green ball, we think we’re somehow separate from it and not part of it. The inability to think holistically, that’s what gets me about people. The thought that nature goes on outside of us. That’s why people don’t care about protecting the planet, that sense of being separated. I want to take each child when they’re very young and take them outside so they can bond with the earth before their neocon parents introduce them to the smell of dollar bills and corporate capitalism. Yes, that is my dream, shameless idealist that I am :peace:…

That’s amazing. They should make posters and put them all over the place showing this. It’s time to remind people of their ties.
Hey, Susan. Someone sent me the 2-minute Haggadah this morning. Hilarious! (Though I’m wondering if it’s as funny to folks who’ve never been to a seder . . . ?)

Seymour Hersch on Democacy Now!
:fustrate::fustrate:Schultz has his head so far up his a* today its almost unbelievable..
It’s not bad enough the the Reich wing media is attacking Conyers so Schultz is attacking Conyers
Schultz is worried that the US auto makers are missing the boat.. what they are doing is abandoning ship and setting up shop in India and China.. the same thing happened in the 80’s with the steel industry. They moved to Korea.
Schultz thinks that gasoline powered cars can not run on ethanol.. ethanol is already mixed with gasoline in lots of places.. Its just that if you get 10 mpg on gas you will get 3 mpg on ethanol and the ethanol will dissolve all the deposits in your gas lines lines and tank and clog up things royally.
Some times I think Schultz is a plant for the Reich wing to try an demoralize the left.
:fu::fu::fu::rant1::rant1:
I do, Kevin. You cominβ north for it?

See, this is why I shouldn’t post at 7 AM and then get straight to work. I miss stuff. Like brisket. :growl:
I don’t typically watch ABC News, but I’m tuning in tonight to see if the suits make Elizabeth Vargas read an on-air apology like McClellan wants them to. If this happens, I will be contacting ABC News to inform them that I will be taking my news-viewing business elsewhere, as journalism is NOT for wimps.
(Actually, I almost always watch the PBS News Hour, but I’m not telling them that.)
Susan Joy, you’re being quite the philosophical poster today. Passover must be bringing out your muse. π
The difference between Rhodes and Hartman is that Thom takes you back to 1776 every day where as Rhodes just goes back to the beginning of the Bush administration.
I really don’t see what Jefferson though has much to do with getting screwed by the rethugs..
and
Whining about Bush when its really a symptom common to all rethugs without offering a solution is just getting to be stupid.:fu::fu::fu::fustrate::fustrate::rant1::rant1::rant1:
Hey, XM’ers, mind a few commercials?
That was one reason I don’t subscribe to cable TV. Paying fifty dollars a month and still getting all the commercials seemed like a big rip off..
Liberal talk radio needs to rethink their advertiser relationship. Just because Reich wing radio has 35 minutes of programming each hour and 25 minutes of commercials doesn’t necessarily mean liberal radio has too.
Some times I think Schultz is a plant for the Reich wing to try an demoralize the left.
I couldn’t agree with you:mad: more.
Sorry fred- I cant figure out how to quote:oops:
sb, you can highlight what you want to quote and then click b-quote.
What I meant to say is highlight what you want to quote, then right click and click copy, then put your cursor in the message box and right click and then paste. Then after you do all that, you can highlight the message in the box and click b-quote.
Somehow, I think there is a better way to say all that π
There thanks to :nixon:you isi
Ok got it all figured out thanks- back to work now:knit:
The implications of last year’s victory of Mahmud Ahmadinejad in the Iranian presidential elections have already reached beyond the Iranian political landscape. Externally the dispute between Iran and the US-EU on Iran’s nuclear programme has sharply escalated. This escalation has in turn been both distorted and intensified by Ahamdinejad’s recent comments on Israel and Holocaust which the west has spared no time to employ in its political and diplomatic pressure on Iran.

Lots of people must be busier than normal today…
I listened to that news conference on C-span that Mahmud Ahmadinejad had in which he said the Holocaust did not happen and the CNN guy was having a really hard time translating so that might only be what we were told he said. One could probably find it in the C-span archives.
Simon Scott views civilization as a Darwinian dance between the Lizard Brains (LBs) and common mammalian knuckleheads who view the world from higher up the brain stem. The LBs, while some are not at all without capacities for high reasoning (think G. Gordon Liddy, Rudy Giuliani); when it really matters, all react from the fight, flight and greed synapses. The LBs think that, when cornered, the best option is always to strike — witness the latest saber-rattling about Iran.
Of course, we see Bush as Top Lizard Brain. The Leaker-in-Chief can barely speak without notes (often, even with them), unless in some sort of bullying snit or that other smug “we can do and take anything we want; we’re the superpower and we’re in charge; I’ve got political capital” awfulness. Whenever the home team is on a losing streak, the manager starts to get incoming from the fans and the always slow-to-awaken, if not complicit rah, rah hometown booster media (think Portland Trailblazers). Of course, even as a Giant Lizard goes down, a lot of damage can be done by the thrashing tail before it’s forever silenced.
The usual outcome is Berlin in ruins. But, here in America we have other options; unused recently. But, the rust remover has been rediscovered of late. That’s why this week has been so entertaining and, dare I say, hopeful…
When I see Condalooser Rice I always see a similarity to the reptilians from the last Star Trek series.. So Lizard brains is a good descriptor.
May it all come crashing down!

:omg::rofl2:
LBs. The Mammalians are not doing so well so far. But I am hopeful…:nixon:
So well, so far. So will sofar sound off?
If the Bush admin crashes and the dems head for the hinter land to avoid the flying peaces it should be interesting how the rethugs cope with no leadership and the left also finds no leadership.. Kind of like the headless horseman. I guess no government is maybe better than or at least similar to the Bush administration. On the other hand it may be like having someone with Alzheimer’s driving the car.
Welcome to the official website for SOFAR. We hope you enjoy your visit. … The Society of Frogs and Reptiles Inc. (SOFAR) meet at The Wetlands Centre, …
Or maybe the people will take charge. Plan now!

I know those guys have less evolved and more primitive responses. It’s the only thing that makes sense. They’re also louder than everyone else. So maybe some of them are lizards and some are simians banging their chests and hooting. We’re just going to have to yell back, and louder. Jeez, I feel like I just went to the zoo
SOFAR… how do we morf this into something that sounds like Congress ??
Sofer so far….
Will sofer sound off?
if the people start planning now we need to have mass flight of the progressives from areas where their are Hurricanes, Tornadoes and freight trains.
And, yes. I still want some.

I have always though that watching congress on C-span was a lot like a visit to the ape house at the zoo. I have never been in the gallery so I can’t say anything about the smell though.

im sure the smell is consistent with the analogy!

Why is the emergency weather forecasting service warning me about illegal alien activity in CT today? Isnt that strange? I think that maybe CK got a NY one the other day.
