Hey everybody, how’s it going? First off, Happy Birthday Melina! :cake: Hard to believe you’re 29 already – where have the years gone?
Secondly, I’m sorry, but I don’t have the time to do justice to the upcoming bobbleheads for today. I put in a god awful long day yesterday, and have another one to put in today. And tomorrow, and probably for the next couple of weeks. I’ll try not to bitch too much (I save that for my wife – she just can’t get enough of my bitchin’). I haven’t even had a chance to listen to the Friday Marc show yet.
But, as for today’s talking heads, Press the Meat has Teddy Kennedy plus Washington Times’ weenie Tony Blankley, Washington Post weenie David Broder, Ron Brownstein of the LA Times, and maybe Dee Dee Myers will give us a critique of the Snotty Scotty dismissal.
On Faze the Nation it’s retired Gen. John “Rummy Must Go” Batiste, the fourth and final Clinton Chief of Staff, John Podesta (maybe he’ll tell us how he thinks Josh will do under President Santos), and – still batshit crazy, but not crazy enough to think dubya’s doing a “heckuva job,” – Pat “man I hate to admit he’s Irish” Buchanan.
On This Weak with George Snufalufagus, it’s the gropenator, Ahnuld Schwanzenpuller, John “Please Don’t Run Again” Kerry and actress Gloria Ruben, on having to put on all that lizard makeup to play Condeleezza Rice.
Chris “Fuxface” Wallace has Jane Harman and Pete Hoekstra, plus former Chiefs of Staff Ken Duberstein and Leon Panetta.
On CNN’s Late Edition, it’s Arlen “isn’t that where Hank Hill’s from” Specter and Carl Levin.
Later, on 60 minutes, it’s some story on the “anti-aging” medical scam (I’m sure it’s not for your birthday, Melina), a story on Howard “Starbucks” Schultz, and,I dunno, probably some other shit, too.
So, anyway, carry on. I just hope I get to see the Sopranos tonight. :jesus:
 Second day in a row, first!
Insomnia put to a positive use, yay. Of course I will be hallucinating from sleep-deprivation by later this afternoon if I don’t nap
In May 1968 (in this context usually spelled May ’68) a general strike broke out across France. It quickly began to reach near-revolutionary proportions before being discouraged by the Stalinist oriented French Communist Party, and finally suppressed by the government, which accused the Communists of plotting against the Republic. Some philosophers and historians have argued that the rebellion was the single most important revolutionary event of the 20th century because it wasn’t participated in by a lone demographic, such as workers or racial minorities, but was rather a purely popular uprising, superseding ethnic, cultural, age and class boundaries.
It can’t happen here….:omg:
That’s what we’re headed for in the USA if this keeps up…I don’t think this country has hit rock bottom yet, but when it does…of course the media won’t broadcast the revolution, unless we take over the media…muahaha. Ok, all I have in my closet are some fireworks, not any bombs, but you know…a girl can dream
I want to change the world NOW and my imagination runs away with me…I can’t run away alone, after all, I’d be lonely 😛

“Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld has approved the military’s most ambitious plan yet to fight terrorism around the world and retaliate more rapidly and decisively in the case of another major terrorist attack on the United States, according to defense officials.
The long-awaited campaign plan for the global war on terrorism, as well as two subordinate plans also approved within the past month by Rumsfeld, are considered the Pentagon’s highest priority, according to officials familiar with the three documents who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about them publicly.”

Organization of some kind of opposition to the policies of the last 30 years is a real problem. The brain washing still has the overwhelming majority of the people thinking the Bush admin is just a detour in our history not a hijacking of our heritage. I don’t think that for the most part Americans have woken up. The opposition to Bush is merely twenty some percent getting ticked off because he isn’t supporting their radical agendas and/or not implementing the desired changes fast enough.
We seem to have no real opposition party or any mechanism to get out a message that would attract those who just assume they are being screwed by the system but can not do anything about it so they don’t vote.
The demodorps seem to be listening to some other drummer than we do. They have to remain near the center to keep their corporate money flowing so they are unlikely to implement campaign finance reform and a national medial insurance program
In the tech sector there is a problem with outsourcing and off shoring. You have more PHD’s driving cabs than ever before. The unemployment among both workers and engineers is terrible ( something like 40%). These are not $ 10.00/hr jobs either.
A lot of the engineers are in their 40’s and 50’s so they are still thinking things will turn around so they have taken out third and forth mortgages and are hoping they don’t run out of money before things change.
A bunch of unemployed people with advanced degrees getting anxious will either lead to a mass exodus or will lead to creative urban renewal

Almost every day I listen to the M$M or C-span some one says we have a terrible problem with a shortage of scientists and engineers. That education is the route for the poor to escape poverty.. I would like to point out that Americans may be stupid but with NO JOBS in the tech sector no one is going to go to college and run up $ 100,000 in loans to be unemployed.
Well Susan yesterday they were saying there were some 20 agencies doing some form of intelligence for the Bush admin. That would account for the three of us and the rest … well…:omg::eek:

Our Senators and reps on both sides of the isle see foreign terrorists and the oppressed US citizen as a threat to both their fortunes and their there existence. This leads to psychotic behavior. A crazy person probably doesn’t appear as crazy to another one.

The yuppies, for the most part, will always put their own interests first. So yes, you’re right about that part of it. If they go against Bush it’s because of one selfish reason or another and they’re not likely retain that philosophy. However, I see the younger generation coming into voting age/adulthood as more idealistic and seeing a bigger picture – at least that’s what I get from talking to them. Purely anecdotal, I realize, but there’s a very different philosophy present. Also seniors that I talk to hate Bush and also see the bigger picture. It’s not just about social security and Medicaid with them; a lot of them see him as the fascist he is. Again, just my take and who I talked to…but it is interesting.
As for mass protests getting gathering steam in this country, I don’t know, I’m cynical about protests working because of how the media works..I was at the protest at the Republican convention last year in NY, and it was an overwhelming response which was completely neutralized by the lack of media coverage and the media commentators calling it a group of “fringe people” though it was not fringe at all, it was everyday New Yorkers of all stripes.
I don’t think we’re actually getting a true picture in this country of what the opposition to the current administration is like, a lot of it is quashed by the corporate media. So do protests work? I’d like to think so, but how can they under those conditions? There are actions to take, yes, but they’ll have to work around the media somehow…
My husband a Cancer (as bush) and he and many OTHER boys DID NOT STICK FIRECRACKERS is the arse of FROGS …at age 13 — not even 5 or 6 but 13years :growl:
LOL this made me laugh a lot…so true though…
Lack of media participation has definitely made the conventional protest some what obsolete. No one is going to join a rumor movement. The Bush admin is also so psychotic that they might order the army to repress a big demonstration and lots of people would get hurt.
The idea of effecting change from the grass roots level will probably be to slow if the process doesn’t get derailed by the corruption of the new people you send to DC before you can elect enough to make some difference.
Effecting urban renewal which would probably get media coverage will probably not be supported by the populace in general and like we see in IRAQ many innocent bystanders will get injured.
I still think that effecting a conflict with another county which we lose might be the best route to solving the problem.
(I cleaned up, kinda, my messy blog #17. Sorry:doh:didn’t even make sense to me.)

See, I miss C-span for a few days and this is what I miss…
When the wing nuts who listen to Reich wing media talk about the minimum wage they all take the position that increasing the minimum wage raises prices. If they employ enough people at the minimum wage to have that happen they need to be investigated by the IRS and the NLRB.
On the other hand I would suppose that in the ideal rethug world everyone except them would work for nothing.

The other typical stupid statement is that education is the solution to the minimum wage problem. That would seem to indicate they have a mental problem. There seems to be way to many “professionals” diagnosing our children to have mental problems. I doubt that the kids are any different than they always have been.. Diagnosing Bush with a mental problem would cause their entire profession to get trashed by Bill O’Liely.

so what they’re really saying is “tough shit.” That’s the general conservative philosophy, though, seriously, isn’t it though?

Kids are basically the same. But it’s a symptom of this society that everybody thinks they have some sort of mental problem that needs drugs (“legal” pharmaceutical industry drugs, to be specific), so why not kids also…
as for Bush shhhh! Just don’t say anything bad about him because you’re just not supposed to say anything about their dadd…er, king. oh wait, president… that’s in the constitution, right?
Amen to that, fred.
did anyone catch the new show on AAR yesterday?
yes, I’m an angry political activist mood today… :fist::fist:
The typical college graduate who graduated since 2000 has found that the labor market sucked so they either went back to living with mom and dad or went on to graduate school. Most of these kids are going to school at probably $ 12,000 a year minimum on a college loan. We now see people with Masters and Doctors degrees graduating and replacing the older people in the work force with no or a BS/BA degree at a lower cost with poorer benefits. The displaced older workers have typically found that no one wants to hire them so they are the ones that have dropped out of the work force..I would bet that there are millions of those kinds of people.
I listened to WorkinIt yesterday. It might be good.. They had an interview with Edwards..and a couple of other labor activists..
Working people in America…good focus…maybe I can catch a rerun of it on radiopower.org, sometimes they repeat these things…if not I’ll catch it next Saturday
WorkInIt has a free podcast available from their web page on the AAR web site.
There are millions of those kinds of people…not to mention ex-classroom teachers who want to try to get back in the classroom to teach but are told they need lots and lots of college credits before they do so no matter how much experience they have… see, it’s really “teachers left behind,” not “No child left behind.”
AAR has some free podcasts? I thought they were all for cost. I’ll have to check that out.
i’ll download it, fred, thanks.
susan, i think the weekend shows are all free downloads. (including my favorite, ring of fire)
Requiring teachers to have MS degrees seems to be a norm these days. I know some displaced tech people who tried to get jobs teaching at the high school level but they “were not qualified” because they didn’t have an education background and it would cost them $ 50,000 to go back to school to get the credentials.. They of course have a mortgage , three kids, a car payment..have to buy food… all those incidental things too.
Well I’m 6 credits short of my MS, but that’s not what they’re asking of me. They want me to take 30 credits in non educational subjects such as math, science, social sciences. I taught for 5 years in NYC, but it was awhile ago and my certification expired, and I want to get back in the classroom.
The first time I taught I had a temporary certification on a Bachelor of Arts plus 16 education credits, but they’re now telling me that this, plus all of the masters credits I have, (which were at a 4.0 gpa, by the way) is not even enough to get a temporary certification working towards a masters. I have more credits than some people who are almost at a doctorate level, but they don’t care because my BA was in art, sciences. So I’m working at a tutoring center while I go back to school, but the NYC area is desparate for teachers and they’re not even considering me till I go back to school for what could be another two or more years.
*I mean my BA was in art, not in the sciences
 It is my sleeptime and I had some to drink :alc: but I will try.:billcat:
There is too many “shrinks” dynosing children. I believe mostly due to parents unable to “deal” with there overactive children.
Also, I think there are so many people in this nation/world that it is the “rat (no offence to my rats) syndrome. So I think that is why one needs more education to stay competitive.
But I think groups need to align and not just for protesting (although I do that too) for strength.
In Unity there is strength.

Yes, we have to be activists I wasn’t suggesting otherwise 🙂 … for strength and unity AND to take real action…I’m just saying we have to be aware that the media is an outright enemy and that if we’re engaging in certain types of actions we need to be smart about it. We have to outclever the conservatives, and that starts by taking real stock of what the situation actually is.

PJ . . . I found a page that describes how to boot Linux on a Mac. A triple boot of MacOsx, Windows XP and Linux! The site is here:

It sounds a bit complicated. I wonder if you’d look at the page for me and with your experience with Linux offer your comments. I know I could simply install Linux onto my Dell laptop, but triple booting on one machine would be the “bomb.”
The weekend has been beautiful here in Birmingham, Alabama. Clear blue skies and mild temps. I donno what I’ll do today. Prolly sit here in front of this computer all day and get a bit fatter. I’m so ashamed of myself for allowing my belly to get out-of-control. No cute guys are gonna want me if I continue eating like a pig at the trouf (sp?) N e way. Hope everyone has a great Sunday. Where do the weekends go? BTW, would you believe that it is “Confederates Memorial Day” on Monday here in Alabama? Yes . . . Confederates memorial day. So many of the places I usually travel to will be closed for the holiday. Perhaps I should just take another day off?

Hey Druid…yeah, it’s crazy…in New York State I can’t even teach while going to school, they won’t let me, and my experience counts towards squat. I want to teach K -6 but I have to know college math and science for that, wtf? All this has changed only in the last year or so, since “No Child Left Behind” started.
Another teacher in the system explained it to me this way: New York State changed its requirements because Bush made it mandatory for them to do so. The schools are getting funding (probably meager funding, but nonetheless…) ONLY if the schools adhere to the new “suggested” national requirements… so like I said, “No Child Left Behind” equals “Teachers left behind” 🙁 And I’m a very well educated professional.

My mother-in-law (just retired) was a 3rd grade teacher … IN L.A. so move here. You might have to work in “tough” schools but they are proud of retraining or if you are going for a teachers degree one can teach while attending ( I think if in last several years in the degree).

Happy Birthday Melina :cake::cool:
Good morning everyone!
What a blog for a Sunday morning!…I have so many comments swirling round in my mind and dont know if Im even up enough to write em down.
First of all…thats to all who sent b’day wishes…
It was interesting to me that when I finally got ot my email, alot of large corporations seem to know that its my birthday too! So Pepsi, who has known me since 2002 when I think I entered a contest or something, sent me a terribly involved song that must have cost alot to make though Im sure that they use it for alot of people who then run out and buy a pepsi….not!
Anyway, I woke at 6 and let the dogs out and then fell back to sleep and ended up sleeping till 11…Its been a long time since I did that and I feel very strange and still tired. I dont knwo why Im so tired actually but the endless rtain pounding on the skylight in my room and that I turned on the heat in there last night might have something to do with it.
Well, of course my network is acting up and something happened again last night to the computer that made it turn off. I set the updates to not automatically download but that may not be it as there is something in the main computer here thats screwing up the torrent programs and replay….I dont want to spend my birthday figuring it out.
Susan- I wanted to say that you should check Uconn’s BGS program for any undergrad work you need because they do apply work related stuff but the teachingthing may not be as strong there…the real good places to look at are sacred heart in Fairfield and Fairfield University. CT is allowing people to teach who dont have their masters or are working on them and they also have programs for people who are changing professions. Itsan hour from the city on the train but might be worth it if you could get your credentials here and then (as in the case of Fairfield U, I believe) get a tri state certification, for if you want to teach in NY.
Its worth looking into anyway. NYC is so bogged down in bureaucracy that it may be worth trying to skirt it.
I did have to take 30 credits at UConn to graduate, but I needed 20 for my undergrad anyway and I had transferred something like 3 or 4 times. They were very, very liberal with application of my existing credits even though some were over 10 years old from Hunter….My only problem with them was that the Psychology Department didnt want to give me a Psyc degree unless I redid 2 years of the program. So, I switched to the BGS program with a social sciences focus. By then I wa ssure I didnt want to be a psychologist and social worker was even fading from what I thought I could stand….
Anyway, It was a very hard row, but I did it and Im glad I did…whatnext, is the big issue, but Ive got a bit of time here with Will before I launch into something big….if I launch into anything at all….
Is it ever gonna stop raining?
OK, here is the perfect thing for us streamers…a computer radio!!
Its a little expensive but I’ll bet that this is just the beginning of this tecnology….

Hey, happy birthday! I hope the Irobot Scooba 5900 thing is cool.:cake:

He’s back.. live in fear..
CAIRO, Egypt – Osama bin Laden issued ominous new threats in an audiotape broadcast Sunday, purportedly saying the West was at war with Islam and calling on his followers to go to Sudan to fight a proposed U.N. force.
In his first new message in three months, bin Laden said the West’s decision to cut off funds to the Palestinians because their Hamas leaders refuse to recognize Israel proved that the United States and Europe were conducting “a Zionist crusader war on Islam.”

Some proactive EuroAsian power should endorse Hamas and then laugh at all the brown spots on the seats of polititians pants that suddenly appear in the west.
I know. Everybody vote for the revolution. Organizing the masses and taking it to the streets is too messy.
I still think we should just hire all those Mexican Immigrants to demonstrate for us..Who ever did that seemed to know what they were doing.
Thanks Trav- its incredibly cool. I wish it was quieter. I want the vacume one that goes to sleep in its charger and then can be programmed to come out and vacume when youre not around. Of course they get stuck sometimes…but its a great technology for someone with lots of animals with muddy feet and dander…and it was a damned good present. Im glad I told him to get it for me;-)
I know the “Going back to school to get a teaching certificate” racket well. Ran up a huge student loan in the process, and it turned out that I was terrible in a public school setting. (I admire people who can do it, though.) They need teachers;but will not take you because unreasonable requirements! What a joke.) Let’s bring this mf-er down.
I’m all for protests, I just don’t want them to be secret protests known to a few insiders. The revolution MUST be broadcast, somehow
Bill Moyers argues that American democracy is threatened by perversions of
money, power, and religion. Money has bought our elections right out from under
us. Power has turned government “of, by, and for the people” into the patron of
privilege. And Christianity and Islam have been hijacked by fundamentalists who
have made religion the language of power, the excuse for violence, and the alibi
for empire.
Well I will go outside with my cardboard tube and my construction paper sign and stand on the corner and see how many people stop to demonstrate with me. When the people from the booby hatch come to get me I will tell them it was Nicki’s idea.
I could probably attract a bigger crowd if I went out with my assault rifle and fired a clip or two in the air.. The problem would be that they would be from the SWAT team.
The “known to only a few outsiders” thing is the corporation’s schtick. Notice I said “organizing the grassroots”. End this goddamn military keynesian racket now!
Out in the streets……Emoticons won’t work!!!!!!3+
Bill Moyers … I wish there were more like him. Christian leftist but NOT a fundamentalist…and such a good speaker…

I took the Moyers stuff from a Truthout mailing.
Hey I’ll join you guys, I have nothing to lose… I paint pretty good signs too…we’ll get everybody’s attention somehow:rant1:
So Nicki’s in Portland , Susan is in NY and I am in Colo I guess we could extrapolate this to be a country wide spontaneous demonstration.
Yeah, so meet in Iowa somewhere?
Thank goodness for the internet
Lets wait until Sean is in Iowa .. he can bring a trailer load of beer.
:yawn::yawn: Nap time
Yes, Sean is the key…I can hitch a ride on his truck ❗

Read NSC 68.
People like Chomsky and Herman say that the US post-WW2 global system is based on internal documents written in the 1940s. The blueprint for how the system shakes out. Change the guidelines!

Travis what are you doing over on January 21 ? :knit:
Hey. I hit one of the recent comments that are at the top-right of the page, and I went to that date with some mobile phone ads on it. :growl: We’ve been infiltrated- as someone else put it:crap:
:rant1:
creepy eh?
Or maybe PJ is getting some advertisin’ on here, but has done so in such a way that we don’t really notice it. I dunno
 I guess I should go find a mallet now.
I was wondering about those phone advertising comments….
Happy birthday Melina! :cake:
From one Taurus to another. 😀
I think the sleep thing is contagious. I was in bed for so long today that I dreamed other people were telling me to get up.
:rofl2:
Hi Kevin…that’s “guilt sleep,” when I sleep during the day I feel like I should really be awake…it’s been raining here all day and it just seemed like a good day to sleep for awhile. Of course that means I’ll probably be up all night because I’m throwing my sleep schedule off again, but whatever
Russian bombers flew undetected across Arctic – AF commander
MOSCOW, April 22 (RIA Novosti) – Russian military planes flew undetected through the U.S. zone of the Arctic Ocean to Canada during recent military exercises, a senior Air Force commander said Saturday.
The commander of the country’s long-range strategic bombers, Lieutenant General Igor Khvorov, said the U.S. Air Force is now investigating why its military was unable to detect the Russian bombers.
“They were unable to detect the planes either with radars or visually,” he said.
Khorov said that during the military exercises in April, Tu-160 Blackjack bombers and Tu-95 Bears had successfully carried out four missile launches. Bombing exercises were held using Tu-22 Blinders.

In the era of the Cuban missile crisis some farmer in Georgia was complaining about big turboprop planes flying low over his fields and scaring his cows. DOD said they weren’t theirs so the farmer took several pictures and sent to them.. The pictures showed six four engine turboprops with counter rotating props with big red stars on their tails.
Testing: No go on the emoticons.
what have they got against you? 🙁

The Politics of Definition Pt. I
“People don’t think Dems stand for anything” Gee, ya think it might have to do with the fact there grassroots dems espousing liberal ideals but senators and DLC dems are mouthing Republican talking points? Could that possibly be why there is confusion? That’s my thought, anyway, the article says other things…
The higher up one looks into the Democrats pyramid, the more similar sounding they are to the Republicans. Look at where power ultimately lies in this country.
Something is wrong with my computer. It is probably too outdated.
:jason: recycle it and buy a dell:40: That’s what I say
well, I made it through another birthday dinner and past now the time for calls so Im gonna go up and watch a movie or read…yay!
It must be the weather or something. The little rivers are so swollen here they are raging rapids. Im glad it stopped finally and am hopeful for the basement maybe drying out a little tonight…yuck! My Mom told me all sorts of interesting political things at dinner that she gleaned from listening to the AM radio all night off and on…
I hope we are gonna see a huge turnaround in the upcoming elections. Bush is so finished and we can only hope that his stink and that of his co-conspirators will continue to rub off on all republicans….we need a knee jerk reaction from everyone who hardly pays attention but just votes a party line…and we need voters to cmoe out who usually dont feel like they care enough to use their voice….
I just want to see a drying trend in the north east this week so I can wake up a little.
and get some stuff done.
Off to watch either brokeback or in her shoes…
hmmmm….
Bad Nicki’s computer, behave :spank:
Hehe, was just looking for an excuse to use the spanking emo 😉
These new Dells are really nice…I just wish that Michael Dell wasnt such a fuck….
If you want a desktop check out Monarch Computers. They have great tech help and extended warranties, and the prices are good. They just dont do laptops. Im very happy with my son’s desktop from them and the tech help Ive gotten. They are also 100% American with no outsourcing.
Wow! I just heard a freakin’ duck or something. Some kind of foul. :omg:
nite all….hope for a better tomorrow…
I guess I should go learn about Michael Dell now:doh: I need some kind of chip implanted in my head so I don’t have to go looking for things. They should already be programed in me.
Oops. I mean fowl!
I liked that you saw a foul better…
Well, I looked up Dell on the Wikipedia site, drifted from that to the category of College drop-outs, and found myself reading about Timothy Leary
:bong:
:paranoid:Stop lurking, and through it down on the blog, man. C’mon!
Fine, just leave then! (I think I just had an aneurysm)
who, me lurk?
PJ!!!!!! Is this site getting infiltrated or what? I just hit Susan’s name to direct me to her Myspace site and was directed instead to a Microsoft site. I’m not likin’ that, man. And earlier there were these mysterious posts for mobile phones in the UK or something. Yeah, that’s right man, mobile phone advertisements on the morningseditionists site:omg: I don’t think I can handle it. It’s too much for me:doh:
Let me find something of substance to post before I fill this thread with too much more of my:crap:
Lurkers:spank:
All right. I figured in this season of spring- symbolic of new beginnings- I would sort of sprout a new alias, hatch out of the shell of my old self, and ah, yeah… So this is me. I guess.
:cry:Travisdem_04 has left the building :priest::rabbi:
Later sheeple
Hey from the preview- looks like I guessed right Vinnick will be asked to be Santos’ VP:omg:
Microsoft is NOT my website…I promise you…I am NOT secretly Bill Gates…:omg:
is he watching me too? He’s going after everyone else…he knows I use a Mac, is that it? No…it’s worse than that… :jason:
It is the mac thing. I seem to be immune to any problems.
However I’ll just bunker down 15,000 feet beneath the ground until the aliens pass and subsist on my rock n roll collection, Saved sedition podcasts, and chocolate rations. Desparate note: I miss you all…
