So, the move to end net neutrality has made it out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, though “only” a few Democrts voted for it. It doesn’t makeit a done deal, and supposedly there’s a lot of hope in the Senate, now that this issue is out from under the table and in the open. Let your representatives know you’re watching.

Ok, this is interesting, Fox news (yes, that Fox news) actually wrote a non-negative review of Neil Young’s “Living with war” that’s going to start streaming for free on http://www.neilyoung.com. Catch some of the lyrics also here:

” Certainly “Living with War” contains the most pungent attacks on a US president in pop-rock since The Ramones recorded “Bonzo Goes to Bitburg” in the late 1980s.”
Good morning Druid! I’m smitten with spring, there’s a nuthatch singing to me on the branch of a tree right outide my window (a nuthatch as opposed to a wingnut…sounds related, but BIG difference…)
hmm, I liked that Ramones song, but sure there have been anti-president songs since then… what about the Eminem song “Mosh?” And that’s without even thinking very hard…
WASHINGTON – The nation’s beleaguered disaster response agency should be abolished and rebuilt from scratch to avoid a repeat of multiple government failures exposed by Hurricane Katrina, a Senate inquiry has concluded.
Crippled by years of poor leadership and inadequate funding, the Federal Emergency Management Agency cannot be fixed, a bipartisan investigation says in recommendations to be released Thursday

Eighteen of America’s wealthiest families, including the Timkens of Canton, are bankrolling efforts to permanently repeal estate taxes that would save their families a total of $71.6 billion, according to a report released Tuesday by public interest groups.
Groups funded by the super-rich have engaged in a deceptive campaign to convince the public that estate taxes cause widespread problems for small businesses and family farms when they actually affect about one in 370 estates, said the report released by Public Citizen and Boston-based United for a Fair Economy

A little tiny story… this is kind of funny actually…in another forum (politically neutral with people of all stripes) I am being recruited to “become a Republican.” Don’t ever let anyone tell you that this whole Neocon thing is not a religious movement.
They are even using the word “save this person” in regards to me. Apparently said something about Bush and one fairly friendly fellow told another that “she can be saved because she’s only mouthing DNC talking points; that’s why she hates the presient.” The other guy agreed that I could be saved. I’m not sure why they selected me for this honor unless it’s the “well she seems so sweet” impression that some people have of me  :rofl2:
I haven’t responded to the thread yet because I’ve been laughing too hard. I’m thinking of playing along with them and taking them for a ride somewhere, (guarantee it will be off a cliff…) if only to generate some amusing chat logs.

Afterword: Failed States
by Noam Chomsky; April 26, 2006
We began by considering four critical issues that should rank high on the agenda of those concerned with the prospects for a decent future. Two of them are literally matters of survival: nuclear war and environmental disaster. The first danger is ever-present, beyond imagination, and in principle avoidable; practical ways to proceed are understood. The second is longer-term, and there is much uncertainty about how a serious crisis can be averted, or at least mitigated, though it is clear enough that the longer the delay in confronting the tasks, they harder they will be. And again, sensible measures to proceed are well known. The third major crisis is that the government of the global superpower is acting in ways that enhance these threats, and others as well, such as the threat of terrorism by enemies. That conclusion, unfortunately all too credible, brings to prominence a fourth critical issue: the growing democratic deficit, the gap between public will and public policy, a sign of the increasing failure of formal democratic institutions to function as they would in a democratic culture with vitality and substance. This last issue is both threatening and hopeful. It is threatening because it increases the dangers posed by the first three imminent crises, apart from being intolerable in itself. It is hopeful because it can be overcome, and again, practical ways to proceed are well understood, and have often been implemented under far more difficult circumstances than those faced in the industrial societies today.

ZNet | Parecon
Parecon Today
by Michael Albert and Chris Spannos ; April 27, 2006
1. Where did parecon come from? What is its history?
Participatory economics, or parecon, came mainly from the cumulative struggles of diverse populations trying to win liberation from capitalism. Parecon owes, in particular, to the anarchist and the libertarian socialist heritage, to the most recent experiences of the New Left of the Sixties, but also to every historical uprising and project aimed at eliminating class rule from the beginning to the present. It has learned from successes and from failures.
I once heard about a strike, billed as the first, by Egyptian peasants against a Pharaoh who moved from requiring six days labor on the pyramid a week, to requiring seven days, and from providing food to providing nothing. I think parecon harks back all the way to that uprising. I think it owes to every essay, speech, and book, and to every activist project and movement that has tried to shed light on the meaning or practice of classlessness.
Parecon meaning classlessness most broadly was born when revolutionaries of various camps began imagining and seeking a classless economy. Kropotkin, Rocker, Bakunin, Pannekoek. That’s what parecon is, a classless economy. It is not capitalism but it is also not an economy ruled by roughly a fifth of the population that monopolizes empowering conditions. In parecon a few participants don’t dominate the remaining participants.

The Jig is Up
Democrats, Their Apologists and Abortion
By SHERRY WOLF
If nothing else, the Democratic Party was at least pro-choice—or so we were told. Ever since Ronald Reagan heralded the rise of social troglodytes in the early eighties, liberal leaders have scolded into line those disgusted with the Democrats’ support for foreign wars, “welfare reform,” and anti-gay legislation by insisting that the Democratic Party was all that stood between women seeking abortion and the Republican barbarians howling at the gates. For twenty-five years, the Democratic mantra on the eve of every election was, “Don’t forget the Supreme Court!” to those considering bolting from the Democrats to support a third-party candidate or just plain bolting. The argument was clear that not voting for Democrats was tantamount to handing over the High Court to the right wing. It almost went without saying that unless the Democrats got elected to Congress, the state house, the school board, or whatever, women’s right to choose would be eroded and then eliminated.
The jig is up. In January, it was Kerry and Hillary and the gang phoning in a thirty-minute filibuster before the confirmation of Samuel Alito to the Court, posturing against the anti-choice nominee just long enough to provide ad footage for their reelection campaigns. Then, Democrats in South Dakota helped both to sponsor and pass the law banning abortion in South Dakota. “So much for the notion that Democrats are pro-choice and Republicans are pro-life,” Democratic state representative Gil Koetzle smirked to the Associated Press. State senator Paul Symens, another Democrat, actually complained that his party wasn’t getting enough media coverage for its support of the ban. Now, all nine Democratic women in the Senate have signed a letter of support for Pennsylvania anti-choice senatorial candidate Bob Casey Jr.
the gap between public will and public policy, a sign of the increasing failure of formal democratic institutions to function as they would in a democratic culture with vitality and substance.
That’s good to know…ends on a positive note. I like that.
Can’t be any doubt that these Democrats just Republicans wearing different clothing. As far as Bob Casey goes, the only way they can get away with that is because he’s running against Rick Santorum who is very unpopular there and supposedly “worse” than Casey would be…and people just follow the “lesser of two evils” philosophy. But every move like this is a blow vs. woman’s right to choose… as for Hillary, she just talks out of so many sides of her mouth and is so conservative and opportunistic I don’t know how everyone in the world can’t see it.
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Pro-immigration activists say a nationwide boycott and marches planned for May 1 will flood America’s streets with millions of Latinos to demand amnesty for illegal immigrants and shake the ground under Congress as it tackles reform.
But while such a massive turnout could make for the largest protests since the civil rights era of the 1960s, not all Latinos, nor their leaders, were comfortable with such militancy — fearing a backlash in Middle America.
“There will be 2 to 3 million people hitting the streets in Los Angeles alone. We’re going to close down Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Tucson, Phoenix, Fresno,” said Jorge Rodriguez, a union official who helped organize earlier rallies credited with rattling Congress as it debates the issue.

Why oh why can’t the left do this too ??

on Raw story but if these are people from the left it may explain the question I asked.
http://www.rawstory.com/comments/14679.html
Why oh why can’t the left do this too ??
Because most of “the left” left in the left went and left town. 🙁 A lot don’t believe in the form of protest, they ‘ve taken the “those dirty hippies” meme from the Republicans. Have you ever read Marcos on Daily Kos? He thinks protest is so passe
The lefts protests so far have been so neat and tidy too. I think the thugs get nervous when the protests get loud and rowdy.. but so do the police.. A lot of people use Gandhi as the outstanding example of accomplishing things through peaceful protest.. tens of thousands of his followers got arrested by the English.. that part they seem to ignore.
Not sure I agree with that one. Kerry – whatever his motivation – got out there and pushed for the filibuster, with very little support from other democrats. Hillary reluctantly jumped in (about as far as her ankles) after getting inundated with phone calls. To her credit, she caved rather quickly on the issue. Far, far worse were Obama and Biden, who oozed disdain for those constituents who dared to tell them how to vote, declaring that they’d vote to continue debate, but that it wasn’t going to work, and was a bad idea.
Anyone who voted for cloture, but against Saclito is even worse, being a hypocrite (or worse). Add the faux moderate Republicans who continue to get endorsements from “progressive” organizations, even as they speak one way, and vote the other (Olympia Snowe comes to mind, among others).
I have more respect for Robert Byrd, who at least didn’t pretend to be against confirmation, while voting for cloture.
WASHINGTON – Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told Congress Thursday that rising energy prices jeopardize a currently strong economy and left the door open to the possibility of another interest rate increase to keep inflation in check.

Iran procures new missiles capable of hitting Europe
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/709888.html
By Ze’ev Schiff, Haaretz Correspondent
Iran has purchased ground-to-ground missiles from North Korea with a range of 2,500 kilometers, the head of the Israel Defense Forces Intelligence Branch, Major General Amos Yadlin, said Wednesday.
While Iran already possessed missiles capable of reaching Israel, the new weapons pose a threat for countries in Europe and parts of the Middle East that have now come into Iranian range.
Some of the missiles have already arrived in Iran, Yadlin said in a lecture in memory of Israel’s sixth president Haim Herzog, who was also head of the IDF Intelligence Branch.
The missiles are known in the West as BM-25s, operate on liquid fuel and are single-stage. The BM-25 was originally manufactured in the Soviet Union, where the first generation, adapted for use by Soviet submarines and able to carry a nuclear warhead, was known as the SSN6. After the Russians retired the missiles from service, they sold them to the North Koreans, who developed them to carry a heavier payload.
With this purchase the Iranians have leap-frogged over their Shihab-4 missile with its range of 2,000 kilometers

OK, I think I have this trackback spam fixed now. I hadn’t closed off all the old posts to trackback pings, but I just took care of that, so hopefully that’ll work. We’ll see.
Cool. Was that automated spam, or did some person actually do it, or is there no way of knowing?
Well, what happens is, if you allow trackbacks, if somebody adds a link to one of your posts, it’ll create a link back to them (kinda nice, so you can see if, say, DailyKos links to one of your posts, you’ll know and can see what they said).
But, they were using it to generate links back to their spam site. My guess is it was something automated – they seemed to hone in on a Jan 22 post. I thought disabling trackbacks would work, but I had to go in and run a query in the database to close off all the old ones, too. Figures they would get me when my head is full of snot and I can’t see or think straight.

I don’t know quite what to think of Santos’s article. Generally the Bush admin is full of bull and I wouldn’t expect them to do anything much less round anyone up. The Hispanics in the Denver area will probably shut down the place this coming Monday. If anything Tancreado’s offices may incur urban renewal. There are lots of Hispanics on the Denver police force as I would imagine you will see in most major cities and they may well arrest and lock up anyone the INS sends out to do something.

No one outside Tallahassee knows Allan Bense from Al Bundy, although Bense has the slight advantage of not being a fictional salesman of women’s shoes.
In order for him to defeat Harris in a potential Repig primary, the Florida Repig party would have to pour several gazillion dollars into a full-flledged media blitz, something I doubt they are much interested in doing.
They need to save funds for the governor’s race, which conceivably could be had by the Dem candidate, either Jim Davis or Rod Smith. The two Repig candidates, Charlie Crist and Tom Gallagher, are busy sniping at each other, to my endless delight, while Davis and Smith have kept their contest above board.
Personally, I doubt Bense will end up running, unless the Bush crime family makes him an offer he can’t refuse. He’s not that stupid.
Besides, God wants Katherine Harris to win. Haven’t you people figured that out by now?

MUMBAI: On March 23, unnoticed by many, the US Federal Reserve quietly stopped publishing the quantum of broad money (referred to as M3) in the US economy.
Simply put, this meant the central bank will not reveal the amount of currency it pumps into the system each year. So, it will now be impossible to distinguish dollar inflows to US economy and new currency that the Fed would print.
So, the Fed, fear analysts, could covertly fund its near $800 billion budget deficit and $700 billion balance of payment deficit, which are more than India’s GDP.
These fears have prompted the dollar to plummet to multi-month lows against euro and yen and could seriously impact confidence in the world’s favourite currency.

Hi everybody . . . Well I’m not gonna even bother recording tonight’s stream. For some inexplicable reason I only managed to get 30 minutes worth of Marc last night and that was even without a ball game! Go figure. I double checked my settings and I’d had it all setup properly. I guess God was trying to tell me something?
It’s much easier to just go to the Replay media page. Damn PJ how do you add a hidden link here? I can’t figure it out.
So what’s up bloggers? Not much going on here in Bham. Nice and sunny out, a beautiful day. I think I’m gonna record video clips of local political ads and add them to the “movie” page of my web site. I haven’t seen a “Roy Moore for Governor” ad as yet, but its certain to come. I happened to get behind a “Don Seigleman for Governor” bus caravan this morning on the way to Lafayette, Alabama. I’d much prefer to see Lucy Baxley win the Govenorship here in Alabama. She’s a democrat of course, but I’m afraid that asshole Republican, Bob Riley will hold on to the governorship. If Moore decides to run as an Independent he might just split the conservative vote, perhaps then we’d have a chance to return the state to blue this November. Fingers-crossed.
I apologize to my fellow bloggers for being super-sensative in last night’s blog. I prolly should have my “Lexapro” perscription refilled? Just chill and have a glass of wine? N e way . . . just wanted to check in and let you guys and gals know that I like being a part of this family. Laters.

Air America to Lose NY Flagship on Aug. 31
Katy Bachman
APRIL 27, 2006 –
Air America Radio will lose its New York flagship station, WLIB-AM, on Aug. 31. While the left-leaning radio network’s original lease for the Inner City station ran out March 31, AAR managed to get an extension which only lasts until Aug. 31, according to an informed source.
Through an agreement with ICBC, WLIB will be operated as a joint venture and programmed by P1, a company run by former Clear Channel and Jacor Communications executive Randy Michaels. Michaels is expected to program a progressive-talk format, but replace AAR’s network programming with more local programming. A likely addition to the new lineup: Ed Schultz, the left-of-center talker syndicated by P1.
“To be clear, Air America will not go silent on the New York City airwaves. We do not, however, comment on hypothetical speculation,” said an AAR spokesperson.

Just…wow
What? Washingtonians are saying FEMA must die? Why?
FEMA didn’t cause Katrina or any other disaster. There are thousands or competent workers and volunteers in FEMA. What failed is the management team. And who manages FEMA? Republican appointees. Political hacks. Incompetent conservatives.
But is a bad management team a legitimate reason to dismantle an entire department? No! What is called for is a dismantling of the incompetent management. And that is the Bush administration, the Republican party. These people have been trying to dismantle our government and society since January 21, 1981. George Bush has said repeatedly our society and way of life is under attack. I agree with him on that part. Where I disagree is who is attcking America. It isn’t some desert peoples who want to be left alone. It is idealistic, right-wingers who want to control our society from the inside if they can, or any other way if they can’t. Now that they do control vast parts of the government they have been shown as totally inept, incompetent to a criminal level. And once again they are trying to pass thebuck, point fingers and lay blame anywhere but where it belongs.
In conclusion, Republicans are incompetent. If you wouldna’t want to work for one then why vote for one?
WLIB is a crappy signal in NY, for those of youse around the nation — unlike ABC or FAN, you have to be looking for it to find it, but this smells to me like the first shoe falling in the death of AAR. What do you experts think?
It sure as hell can’t be good.
By the way Nicki Rose, since you’re the Middle East expert on this blog, if you haven’t already, you should get ahold of the Robert Fisk book, The Great War for Civilization [it weighs about 24 pounds, but a great read] which is out now. Simply amazing stuff about Iraq, Iran, Israel, Afghanistan, and even a startling chapter on the Turkish massacre of the Armenians, which might have been a ‘dress rehearsal’ for the Holocaust in that some key Nazis saw how the Turks got away with it, and decided to do likewise.
I agree that it’s a bad sign for Air America in general to lose the NY flagship, sheesh! Right, I can still stream it (I mostly do now anyway) but what does it mean when a major city like NY loses AAR? It doesn’t portend anything good. I knew the ratings weren’t great here but I’m still surprised. Upset. Yeah.

Perhaps AAR is going to another, better station.
I dont expect that AAR is gonna fail, but they need better management and a more realistic time frame for “success”….Someone like Soros will probably bail them out, as I think he has in the past, but I would think that being bailed out would require some better ideas and smarter people running things.
🙁
I hope so Nicki….Ill have to ask my MOm because she listens to all the local stations and knows them all. WLIB doesnt have a good signal anyway…
:no::spank::rant1:
where did this story first surface? (About LIB losing AAR) I’m depressed. And I did not have a good day to begin with. 🙁 🙁
Belize! Yup:40: [Belch]Tune-time…Doodoo do do…If I only had a brain
PJ: Did you ever get a full version of the 4/26 show? I’ve scoured every place I know–torrents, replay-whatevers, etc.–and still can only find a 4/26 show that is 1:03:05 long. I’m a premium subscriber, and the show there is short, also.

One and one, we`re having some fun,
In the bedroom, all day, and all of the night.
Two and two, I took of my shoes,
In the bedroom, all day, and all of the night.
Three and three, she undressed me,
In the bedroom, all day, and all of the night.
Four and four, we fucked on the floor,
In the bedroom, all day, and all of the night.
Five and five, I put up her thights,
In the bedroom, all day, and all of the night.
Six and six, the bitch sucked my dick,
In the bedroom, all day, and all of the night.
Seven and seven, we went to heaven,
In the bedroom, all day, and all of the night.
Eight and eight, she masturbated,
In the bedroom, all day, and all of the night.
Nine and nine, she licked my ass,
In the bedroom, all day, and all of the night.
Ten and ten, the bitch did it again,
In the bedroom, all day, and all of the night.
Get off my ass, bitch
Get your face out of my ass, motherfucker
Get off my ass bitch!
Get your face out my ass motherfucker!!
