Hey, Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there.
As a special treat, Press the Meat has an “exclusive,” with a meathead being interviewed by a potatohead as Timmy takes on the Newt. I wonder if Newt will change his tune on the latest NSA spying scandal, or if the White House has gotten to him? Then Wall St. Journal hack John Harwood, “Liberal” John Meachem (who referred to Russ Feingold as a ‘sane’ Howard Dean), and rightwing shill (and apparent Botox addict) Judy Woodruff get together to talk about how it’s OK for the NSA to keep track of every phone call ever made in the USA. Hell, they caught Moussaoui, didn’t they?
Over at Fazed the Nation, it’s, well, it’s apparently a secret. Hey, CBS, if you need a web guy to update your frickin’ FTN web page, let me know; I work cheap.
Over at This Weak, George Snufalufagus has Joe Biden and Chuck Hagel on to talk about the NSA’s spying (I, for one, would like to know how we got 250 million Al Qaeda operatives in this country, and we’re going to do about them), then it’s – get this – “feminist and mother” Laura “Lithium” Bush, and, if you haven’t puked yet, they’ll also have another mother, Reese Witherspoon. Then it’s time to see if a bunch of square pegs can fit around a round table, with David “Douchebag” Brooks, Donna “Please don’t hire her if you run again Al” Brazile and, of course, George :jerk: Will.
Over at Fux News Sunday, Chris “Weaselface” Wallace gives us another heapin’ helping of the First Stepford Lady, and then Mary Cheney will be on to tell John Kerry to go fuck himself.
On CNN it’s, oh, hell, who gives a shit what’s on CNN?
Later, on 60 Minutes, Steve Kroft talks to the Dixie Chicks, Lesley Stahl features SEIU President Andy Stern, and Dan Rather says Brazil is off imported oil, so why the hell aren’t we?
It’s a sad moment (IMHO), as the best president of the past 8 years leaves office, as NBC shows both the first and last shows of the West Wing. There are those who say the show isn’t as good as it used to be, but even if it’s true, it’s bound to be better then I Wanna Date a Millonaire, or I Wanna Be a Fucking Rock Star, or whatever crap that’ll probably replace it.
Have a happy mudda’s day.

The problem as I see it is that Bushco owns the law enforcement branch, the law generation branches, the law signing branch and the law validation branch so they can do pretty much anything they want. We the people are so poorly organized that we are powerless..Progressives have a rather poor history of when attacked by indians of circling the wagons then shooting at each other.
I think that thugs worry about losing their ‘stuff” while the progressives worry about loosing their rights. We are in more danger from a freight train derailment than any terrorist attack.. People who own stuff seem to be paranoid. Antagonizing the big powers in the middle east may put us in more danger of having a war which we will lose. Losing a war with Russia or China would make a terrorist attack look rather nonconsequential.
I (I will only speak of me) am one that most of even the regular Dems do not understand, mostly I feel like “…they came for them, and most did nothing”.

Cheney Pushed U.S. to Widen Eavesdropping
WASHINGTON, May 13 β In the weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, Vice President Dick Cheney and his top legal adviser argued that the National Security Agency should intercept purely domestic telephone calls and e-mail messages without warrants in the hunt for terrorists, according to two senior intelligence officials…
…By all accounts, General Hayden was the principal architect of the plan. He saw the opportunity to use the N.S.A.’s enormous technological capabilities by loosening restrictions on the agency’s operations inside the United States.
For his part, Mr. Cheney helped justify the program with an expansive theory of presidential power, which he explained to traveling reporters a few days after The Times first reported on the program last December.
Mr. Cheney traced his views to his service as chief of staff to President Gerald R. Ford in the 1970’s, when post-Watergate changes, which included the FISA law, “served to erode the authority I think the president needs to be effective, especially in a national security area…”
Thank you Fred, I wanted to see your views. You put it so well regarding Russia and China  — but I see this administration is focusing on Homeland shit as they screwed up more worldly matters and calling those like me horrid names in print and on the airwaves.
There are not enough people who participate in the AAR blogs that anyone would be overly concerned about them being a threat. Most of the evening bloggers are drunk or high by the time they get there so it turns into a BS session about JG’s cup size or something. I think lately Rachel has come to work drunk..They never encourage any action other than voting and only Hartman even hints at the dangers with the economy and the voting machines.

Oh well, I see “An Inconvenient Truth” is opening in two theatres in DC on June 2nd, so at least I’ll be able to see it.
As for animals, mine had me up and out early this morning, and it was definitely Lab day at the park, with big labs, little labs, yellow labs, brown labs, black labs, oh and that horny Rottweiler. Plus we got to go for a swim, play with a nice white horsey, chase some wild turkeys (well, Siggy did; the only thing I chase Wild Turkey with is beer), scare a crane, get the once-over from a couple of hawks and some turkey vultures, and of course play in the mud.

I hope your Mother’s Day is going well. Mine has been about as good as it gets, I think. First, um, I had some Alaskan crab, which wasn’t bad. Then my homeless uncle and his homeless buddy stopped by along with my grandmother who has Alzheimer’s. Yeah, so, you can imagine what kind of conversations were passed around the table and surrounding area (not enough chairs at the table for everyone) Oh, and to add another drop into the stream of fun, my other uncle in the pen gave us a call. I’d tell you what happened to cause that situation but I’ll just let the emoticon tell the story:jason: I’ll through down some details later about the holiday or whatever it is.
Hey Travis…well it certainly seems like you had an interesting day… nobody I know seems to lead lives like Hallmark Mother’s Day cards ..I’m having a delayed mother’s day (till Tuesday) because that’s when everybody in my family is visiting her (she lives out in Jersey). We don’t have anything you like you just described, but it is going to be the first year without my father being there, so that should lend a different atmosphere to everything

That was thoughtful of your uncle in the pen to call.

Speaking of Communists [good Communists]:
Left Triumph
The Indian Road
By VIJAY PRASHAD
The results are in, after weeks of voting and days of anticipation. The Communists have triumphed in the two main left-wing boroughs. In West Bengal (population 80 million), which the Left Front has governed since 1977, the coalition secured its seventh straight win. This time the tally was spectacular. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPM], the main force in the alliance, won 176 seats of the 294 total (the Left Front won 235 all together). In Kerala (population 31 million), the Left Democratic Front won two thirds of the seats (the CPM prevailed in 61 of the 98 seats secured by the alliance). The ruling United Democratic Front had to be content with 42 seats. In Tamil Nadu, the Left backed Democratic Progressive Alliance came back into power, and for the first time, the Communists won seats in the north-eastern state of Assam.
The CPM has come a long way. The Indian communist movement emerged in the 1920s as one flank in the Indian freedom struggle against British rule and in the international struggle to create a proletarian revolution against capitalism. Brave men and women threw themselves into the construction of an organization that worked alongside and inside the trade unions, the mass struggles and the various social reform efforts. Their small numbers did not dissuade them, because they came equipped with the belief that their ideology had grasped the dynamic of history, and that therefore their victory was inevitable. For us, in the age of reaction, it is easy to mount a theoretical critique of their faith in teleology (the march of history toward a known end), but what we don’t really appreciate is how this idea (that the Revolution had to triumph) gave them the necessary energy to go on with what was an arduous and dangerous task…

Al Gore: A User’s Manual
Cockburn/St. Clair Filets Gore In Scathing Detail
by John Nichols
After reading “Shrub,” the delicious dissection of George W. Bush’s short political journey penned by Molly Ivins and Lou Dubose, I was left with just one question.
Would there be an equally scathing critique of the longer but not particularly more meritorious career of Al Gore?
The answer is yes, and the book is “Al Gore: A User’s
Manual” (Verso). Authored by Alexander Cockburn, the veteran left-wing columnist and commentator whose ability to filet the deserving is unrivaled, and Jeffrey St. Clair, one of the nation’s ablest and most aggressive environmental journalists, the “User’s Manual” offers a deconstruction of Gore that is every bit as chilling as the job done on Bush by Ivins and Dubose.
The masterful hand of Cockburn is at work from the start of this eminently readable tome: “Like a street mountebank fluttering a handkerchief to distract attention from his sleights of hand, Gore has always used his proficiency with the language of liberalism to mask an agenda utterly in concert with the Money Power.
“Nowhere is this truer than in his supposed environmentalism, which nicely symbolizes the chasm that has always separated Gore’s professions from his performance. He denounces the rape of nature, yet has connived at the strip-mining of Appalachia and, indeed, of terrain abutting one of Tennessee’s most popular state parks.
“In other arenas, he denounces vouchers, yet sends his
children to the public schools of the elite. He put himself forth as a proponent of ending the nuclear arms race, yet served as midwife for the MX missile. He offers himself as a civil libertarian, yet has been an accomplice in drives for censorship and savage assaults on the Bill of Rights. . .
Everybody’s freakin’ nuts on this blog…I love it :omg:
Labor media were unable to get advertising. Where else have you seen that, ovaltine?
He offers himself as a civil libertarian, yet has been an accomplice in drives for censorship and savage assaults on the Bill of Rights. . .

“No.”
“Constitutionalist then?”
“God forbid.”
“Then you are an aristocrat?”
“Not at all!”
“You want a mixed form of government?”
“Even less.”
“Then what are you?”
“An anarchist.”
:omg:
I love people who have political conversations with themselves
More Red Propaganda:
CHOMSKY: Bakunin’s warnings about the Red bureaucracy that would institute the worst of all despotic governments were long before Lenin, and were directed against the followers of Mr. Marx. There were, in fact, followers of many different kinds; Pannekoek, Luxembourg, Mattick and others are very far from Lenin, and their views often converge with elements of anarcho-syndicalism. Korsch and others wrote sympathetically of the anarchist revolution in Spain, in fact. There are continuities from Marx to Lenin, but there are also continuities to Marxists who were harshly critical of Lenin and Bolshevism. Teodor Shanin’s work in the past years on Marx’s later attitudes towards peasant revolution is also relevant here. I’m far from being a Marx scholar, and wouldn’t venture any serious judgement on which of these continuities reflects the ‘real Marx,’ if there even can be an answer to that question.

McCain Watch:Mothers Day 2006
So, I’m sittin’ in a booth at Katz’ Deli with my friend having pastrami and eggs and discussing our liberties being erroded away this morning and in walks the pasty white Senator McCain and his chalk white blonde wife, Cindy. I thought, now’s my chance! I can tell him something to his face! My heart started beating as I went through the issues, Immigration, Iraq, Patriot Act, Presidency, etc Fuck! WHat should I say! I lapsed into a dream state and decided I would just walk over there and the issue would just present itself. My companion tried to stop me as I rose and headed toward the illustrious Senator. Cindy was quick to notice there was something dangerous in my stride. She bolted up from the booth and I relized my cheek was grazed with a vicious round house kick from the tall slim womans’ stilleto heel slicing into my cheek bone. I grabbed Senator McCains fork and raked her forehead! The red blood vivid against her pale skin and hair, splattered onto the Senators’ papery aghast, face. McCain snarled like caged badger:growl: recoiled into the corner of the booth. All of a sudden I heard a banshee scream and Cindy McCains long, manicured nails sunk into my neck. She was going for the jugular! I had to get away but not before I told McCain what was on my mind! Cindy McCain was dragging me to the floor, nobody was coming to anyones aid becuase of the crazy screams that were coming out of Cindy, they were all paralyzed with fear :omg:. I quickly spun around grabbing her by the arm and I flung her through the swinging doors into the kitchen. “She’s toast now”, I muttered to myself. I turned toward McCain and approached him with purpose. He cowered as I grabbed him by the suit lapel and lifted him out of the booth. I glowered at him and said through gritted teeth, “I hope your enjoying your breakfast McCain!” as I shoved his face into the pile of corned beef hash on his plate. Let’s see you figure out an exit stategy NOW!” I dropped him like the dirty diaper that he his and walked out without paying my bill. My companion had the car ready to go and we fishtailed it outa there like a couple of bank robbers.
I had to clear out of Olympia,WA because the smalltown cops put me under intense surveillance. (I’m Innocent!) A certain professor at the local college warned me to leave town because the cops were going to kill me.
(I found out later that Herbert Marcuse himself warned the same professor, when he was a first year professor in San Diego, that the cops were going to kill him if he remained in San Diego.)
Damn,, KP! You certainly topped my story.:omg:
Actually, I just sat there feeling like I should go and say something but not wanting to disturb his breakfast and knowing I would get tongue tied and end up looking like an idiot and feeling even worse. We paid our bill and went to get tickets for Steven Seagals’ band Thunderbox instead. :alc::bow:
Oh shit! You told on yourself by posting here. Why didn’t you just chill?

Nope, didn’t go to commencement. I didn’t go when I graduated, either (of course, I was done in December, so the thrill was pretty much gone by the time commencement rolled around). Maybe if I don’t die trying to get this masters over with, I’ll go to that one. At least to my school’s convocation, if not the whole SU dog and pony show. Unless they have somebody good. They had Bill Clinton a couple years back, and he was great (say what you want about Bill, he’s a great speaker). The year after that, they had Phylicia Rashad, for some unknown reason (the kids must have felt pretty screwed). At least Billy donated a nice chunk of change.

Well no other “news” source has put out anything about Rove being indicted. The folks over at DU are still holding out hope that the Truthout announcement wasn’t a bit premature.
yeah, I was wondering when the MSM story was going to surface on this, but ther have been false leads through this whole thing. I do think something is going to happen, though, but when exactly i don’t know…
Travis-no need to repent on bumping me off the list! It just means I need to start posting more! π

So activist Ms Flanders has been relegated to bringing us only good news about how the democrats are taking back western states or parts there of with the population of the Denver suburb of Littleton.
Whoa, man, is Nicki part of the Corrupted System?

Everbody’s watching the Sporanos and the West Wing. Not many TV shows that’ll have Keb Mo on.
so it seems…I can’t get HBO anymore, though
ARGH!! I missed the last West Wing….I guess I’ll get it from Bit Torrent…..
What a BAD BAD BAD drive home…again with bad traffic, but more spread out…and Will is not well…He is having a very bad medicine reaction.
Oh well…Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Im so happy to be home with my dogs!!
Kat…congrats on getting the prom over with! I never had one in my Brooklyn Quaker High School…but we did have some great grungy/disco/rockin parties in the gym…of course there was alot of alcohol involved ( we all could easily get served at the local dive bar anyway) …ah, the old days…so glad theyre over!! π
I cant imagine Will in a tux, but I’m looking forward to it!
I saw alot of white tuxes last night at the hotel prom….even white patent leather shoes! The girls were so done up with sparkles on their shoulders and perfect hair. The guys were all in those rental tuxes with little personal flairs here and there….very nice!
I wonder what the music was like….I hope they had fun!
We keep seeing the Hummer stretch limo driving around…
Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there!
Im gonna go collapse.
Tomorrow Im going to start dissecting this spying thing. I cant get my mind around it at all…how possibly could this be OK with anyone?
Uh, let’s see. The common phrases are….”If you have something to hide, you must be doing something illegal” or “Hey, everyone has caller-ID”
bah, there are so many flaws in that argument, Travis…it’s about framing. They frame it as “something to hide,” we need to frame it as “privacy,” which everyone is entitled to. It goes back to language again.
Uh, what? OK. Yup.
Hey, I hope Conn. isn’t flooding, Melina. Not fun.
And you have trip-pics, right?
Later, sheeple
I have to go back and edit.
IS THAT A SPY IN YOUR POCKET…?
From Brad Blog:
As longtime BRAD BLOG commenter, Czaragorn asked for some red meat today, and as we’ve been conflicted on whether to “report” anything on this or not, we’ll just toss it out there and say, oh well, Czaragorn asked for it. And we aim to please.
Surely, you’ve all heard the many and various rumors and speculation of late about a Karl Rove indictment being handed down from the Grandy Jury in the Valerie Plame TreasonGate case. Either that, or you’ve read Jason Leopold’s article from Friday reporting that Rove has informed the White House he’s about to be indicted. Or the follow-up story yesterday, in which he reports that it’s a done deal, Rove’s attorneys have been served with the indictment and that Special Prosecutor Fitzgerald has spent Friday and Saturday with Rove’s attorneys in pursuit of some sort of plea deal.
While we can’t indepedently confirm or deny any of Jason’s specific reporting, we have received various bits and pieces of note from sources that we have more than a fair bit of confidence in, while at the same time noting a few other interesting signs and tea leaves worth pondering…at least for Cazaragorn’s sake…
For a start, one item that jumped out at us personally, in light of these various reports, was the news that Bush has asked for primetime network clearance for an oval office address on Monday night…on immigration. That sort of misdirection has become de rigueur for this administration whenever they wish to distract and attempt to pre-empt various bad news headlines. Does this mean they expect news of a Rove indicement to slip out somehow Monday morning? Dunno.
As well, since Friday, we’ve received various communications from both respected insiders and respected reporters who have told us in no uncertain terms that it’s a done deal. The indictment was handed down by the Grand Jury on Friday, they say, and now it’s only a matter of when the information will be made public.
Though we were not told by these sources who the sources were from which they received their information. So we cannot stand behind those reports ourselves, but we do believe that their certainty is worth notice.
Meanwhile, out there in InternetLand, former CIA man and spookmate of Plame, Larry Johnson sent an email (some of which he also posted on DU) claiming that: “Joe Wilson heard the same from other sources. And, more importantly, Jason [Leopold] is reporting based on multiple, more than two, sources. His editors realized what a big story this is and did the appropriate checking before posting.”
NOTE: Though we’ve spoken with Wilson from time to time, he’s not one of the “insiders” mentioned above with whom we’ve discussed the latest rumors.
For shits ‘n’ grins, Jeralyn Merrit over at TalkLeft recounts an amusing experience (for us, not necessarily for her) in trying to receive confirm from Rove’s attorney, Robert Luskin late last night.
More useful, perhaps, is Jeralyn’s always interesting and insightful analysis of the various tea leaves as they’ve been leaking out in drips and drops since Leopold’s initial report on Friday.
Beyond that, it seems most of folks in Blogistan are staying eerily mum. Burned once, so twice shy after the last premature “Fitzmas” celebrations?
Since we didn’t fall for the Fitzmas bait ourselves last time, we guess it’s okay to help stir up some shit this time around on an otherwise quiet-ish Sunday when we’ve got some good stuff, but we’d hate burn it all on a weekend while you people are out enjoying yourselves anyway as we toil away on Mother’s Day. So, much more to come on those other matters, about which we can report with first-hand certainty, over the next 24 or so.
Until then…Will an announcement of Rove’s indictment come Monday? Later this week? Or not at all? Red meat enough for ya, Czaragorn? Have at it BRAD BLOGsters…
Andy did it!:jason:
Fine! I did it:jason:
Yep!
