Well, the bachelor life continues. I may actually have to go grocery shopping today. Either that, or start eating the cats, :billcat: but my wife would probably notice them missing when I got back. No Rove indictment yesterday – I’m starting to wonder if there’ll ever be one. Maybe it’s better to keep all this hanging over their heads for a while, anyway. Oh well, I’d better go look at the news, and see if they found Jimmy Hoffa yet.

If Hayden gets the job at the CIA we can all expect to become politically active on the inmates committees of the thugs work labor camps.
I think IRAN is leading George Bush into a trap. Now that we have destroyed our army in IRAQ a war with IRAN will destroy our navy ( literally envision burning sinking Aircraft carriers) and get our oil imports cut off.

are you watching Hayden?
I was so glad to hear Mike Malloy say he couldn’t get “his brain around it” — since that is my constant state-of-being now. :growl:

Stephanie Miller has been discussing it. Like her, I’m loath to refer to Tony Snow as a racist simply on the basis of one comment, but the reference was inappropriate in that setting, whether or not anyone found it offensive. (Which I did.)

KK, that tendon thing just doesn’t sit well with me this morning! UGH!
FK-it’s yucky example of ‘better’. There are a number of balloons. Of the balloons there is one yellow one. Yellow balloons are then ‘better’ than other colors.
You can’t get whale flesh elsewhere, therefor it is ‘better’.
It is a way of thinking. I’m not agreeing, just trying to give a culture focus.
Cultural Question:
An old man and a baby are drowning in a river. You can save only one. Who? and why? :yinyang:
i don’t like choices like that….if I save the old guy can he help me then save the baby so everyone is saved?
Sorry, choose one and why?
baby = potential
man = respect for existing life
====
guess i’d have to save the baby, innocent and can’t take care of itself, mother instinct in me….
Jeez louise……don’t like that kk…..ok YOU?
Fuck, that’s a toughy. I pick the kid, ’cause the old guy has already experienced life- like Maron’s dad would say, he’s already dead anyway- or somethin’.
The Confusian Asian answer is “Save the old man. It’s easier to make a new baby than an old man.”
Personal answer, baby (old man’s had chance to be there, do that)
ButI do now internally understand the other and why.
:rofl2: I was just about to throw that down:doh:
Hey Travis! Are you up late or early?
I’m up pretty late. My clock is all screwed-up:billcat:

Farmerkat I answered but it disappeared — so answering again. I agree with you and many are at fault here — but not us (you and me)
And King Kong what is the relevancy of that question regarding the WHALE MURDERS:!:
(Iron fist in a velvet glove attitude:smile::( )
:ear: How are the ears doing?
Druid- First, there was the talk of why the Japanese continue to slaughter whales. It was suggested why? I mentioned some Asian thinking, like why things were ‘better’. The question and answer are another insight into Asian tradional thought.
I understand that but I don’t understand why I should understand. Massive slaughter is wrong, whether we are doing it or Japan. And I met many of the highest spiritual leaders in Japan who agree with me, even the Heart Drummers from Sodo, which I have standing invitations to Sodo.
And Farmerkat, answering, I swear, to your very important Sea Shephard questions, please in a sec
:ear: Let me think about it some more, and I’ll throw it down tomorrow. The short answer is that the ears look alright, but the tinnitus is horrible. Not fun.

Israel’s New Plan: A Land Grab
by Jimmy Carter
http://www.cartercenter.org/doc2344.htm
It is inconceivable that any Palestinian, Arab leader, or any objective member of the international community could accept this illegal action as a permanent solution to the continuing altercation in the Middle East. This confiscation of land is to be carried out without resorting to peace talks with the Palestinians, and in direct contravention of the “road map for peace,”
Yep, sounds like Jimmy
The whole ritual is beautiful, King Kong. I do not know how to explain, but will do it in my limited way.
First, the drummers come in chanting, in a myriad of powerful vocal chants. Then they slowly start to drum. Some are sitting, but leaning back pounding the smaller drums — I think I just saw a commercial using females on the traditional drums of Japan. (I knew them when the drummers were not copied and used poorly)
Then the Special Drummer comes in and the Very Very Large Heart Drum comes in and slowly a battle persues between the drummer and the Heart Drum. The drum could easily overpower the drummer. But that is the battle. But, it is known that babies can fall asleep even when the Drum sounds its Heart Beat.
sounds like I would enjoy listening to that, Druid…I’ve been to drumming circles, though of different tradition than Native American. I like that type of energy
Druid, I felt it. You gave a great description. Thank you.

The Border War Comes Home
Our Lives are on the Line
By JUAN SANTOS
He looked squarely into my eyes. “So, you see what’s coming,” he said.
I was speaking with one of the core leaders of the movement for migrant’s rights, and had laid before him a sketch of a plan of resistance for the nation’s barrios, for the protection of people from the mass raids and mass deportations that will result from new anti-migrant legislation being birthed in Washington.
“This is the calm before the storm; they’re going to make it tough,” Professor Armando Navarro had told LA’s La Opinion. “They’re talking about raids, deportations. In every barrio we have to organize migrant defense committees, and get ready for civil disobedience.”
The meeting we had just attended unanimously called for the rejection of the so-called Hagel-Martinez “compromise” in the US Senate, under which as many as 7 million migrants could face deportation. Such a compromise would then have to be “reconciled” with House bill 4437, an even more extreme measure inspired by supporters of the ultra-Right and the racist shock troops called the Minutemen.
The House bill calls for the universal deportation of every woman, child and man in the country without papers, for an utterly devastating depopulation -an ethnic cleansing – of the barrio, and the destruction of much of its cultural and economic life…

Are you ready for the ethnic cleansing? American style.
Under international law, ethnic cleansing means the expulsion from a territory of one ethnic group by another, and pertains to official policies aimed at the forcible removal of a targeted group. The crime is considered a form of forced emigration, deportation and genocide.

The Lobby and the Great Protestant Crusader
The NYT Confronts Mearsheimer and Walt–Not Quite Head On
By LENNI BRENNER
I’ve been a political activist for 54 years. During that time I’ve had plenty of chances to do stupid things and I’ve taken full advantage of the opportunities. But I’ve developed only one perversion: I not only read New York Times editorials, I collect them.
One thing is for certain. John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt’s “The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy” has made the big time. It’s been discussed in the Times, read by the city’s intellectuals and many others worldwide via its website, which 1.9 million individuals hit daily.
‘Out of town’ born residents may have wondered why “Essay Stirs Debate About Influence of a Jewish Lobby” was placed in the paper’s 4/12 Metro section, reserved for stories about corruption trials of Brooklyn Democrats. But, while Jews are only ca. 2% of Americans, there is nothing more local than an attack on Zionism in a city where 8% of the total population, and 30% of all whites, are Jews.
Alan Finder told us that other “opinion journals” attacked the professors, “part of a group of foreign policy analysts, known as realists, who believe that international politics is fundamentally about the pursuit of power,” as anti-Semitic. But he took no position on the contents of their critique.
The Times hasn’t taken a stand on the merits of their arguments for two reasons: Its record on Jewish issues before the creation of Israel in 1948 was shameful and got worse afterwards. A former executive editor spoke for it in the 11/14/01 issue. It’s willful blindness to the holocaust was “surely the century’s bitterest journalistic failure.” […]
What is perhaps most scary to me is that progrssives like Randi Rhodes and Thom Hartmann are providing tools (and flak) for legitimizing this project.
I’m just tuning into AA now
Thanks FK for that link (#78) to Greg Palast’s article.
Zionism was an offstage noise in 1933-39 Jewish New York. The important political players were the reformist socialists who led the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. They quit the Socialist Party to support Roosevelt. Their major rival were the Communist Party’s Jews. Both despised Zionism for seeking charity donations from Jewish capitalists who should have given the money to their Jewish and other workers. They condemned the World Zionist Organization for its “Transfer” Agreement with Hitler. To get Jewish money out of Germany, the WZO sold Nazi goods in the Middle East and shipped it oranges to Europe via Nazi boats. But the holocaust stunned them. Both left elements regressed into nationalism.
tragedies always seem to lead to nationalism…I wish people would learn to get some other response. We’re such an unevolved species š
The wide discussion of Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt’s policy paper, including the gingerly Times take, tells us that most pro-capitalist intellectuals see Bush in deepening trouble throughout the Middle East. So they debate who to blame for getting us into these wars, without making the slightest effort to build a movement to get the US out of them.
Still, we thank the profs, Zionists and the Times. The academics succeeded in mainstreaming critical discussion of the lobby. But their approach is so narrow that it almost forced Zionists to respond by shouting about how, well and truly, the US is imperialist. And the Times’ failure to editorially draw even one conclusion from a discussion in its own pages, much less call for a new policy towards Zionism, focuses us on cleaning up the antiwar movement’s own act.

Dell has agreed to use Advanced Micro Devices’ Opteron chip in multiprocessor servers by the end of the year, ending a long-standing policy of sticking exclusively with Intel.
The PC maker made the move public in its first-quarter earnings press release on Thursday. Speculation has mounted for years as to whether Dell would adopt the company’s chips, despite Dell’s exclusive relationship with rival Intel to this point. AMD has enjoyed a performance lead in server benchmarks over Intel’s Xeon processors.

Intel must have done something wrong.
Does this mean that Dell won’t use any Intel processors?
Didn’t Apple just start using Intel?
AMD has pretty much surpassed Intel (at least as far as “gamers” are concerned).
Yep, Apple went to Intel.
I think Dell will just be using the Opteron dual and quad processors in their servers. I will bet they will stay with Intel parts in their desktops at least.
Justice, USA-style.
:tinfoil: http://vanish.org/
“They’re treating us like each one of us is a terrorist…time to hide like one…”
Apple went to Intel because IBM sold the Power PC line of processors to a company in China and they were also unable to get the power dissipation down on the G5 parts so that one could use them in a laptop. From a shear speed standpoint the G5 is far superior to any current Intel processor.
So if you are a foreign national they can pick you up for having your shirt tail out and beat you up ?? His government should threaten to terrorize the Bush administration.

now THAT is chilling. No redress because of national security. guess we’d better ramp up secret courts to go along with the rest of the secret stuff.
i always thought (with no factual backup) that AMD was a cheaper chip. yes?
The single processor AMD chips are about as expensive as an Intel Celeron chip for a part with better performance than a P4 part. Most people look at the raw clock ratings and think they are being slighted when they see an AMD 3300+ actually runs at 2.4 GHZ but the cache and memory buses allow them to operate much faster so for most operations the 3300+ is faster than a P4 at 3.3 GHZ. Running slower generally means they run cooler too.
Calling O’Reilley out for racism, huh Randi? Tea Pot calls the Kettle black!
:omg:
Oh, that’s right. Randi is for ethnic cleansing only if it is done legally.
Actually, I’d say they’re both very close – it really all depends on the apps.
Randi likes to hear herself talk but rarely listens to what she says.
Only one here! Time to go grocery shopping.:omg:
The G5 parts are all single instruction per clock parts while the Intel parts are multiple clocks per instruction parts and a lot of the P4 instructions are two or three words long these days. The computers themselves might be similar in performance but they never look at I/O overhead in the battle for the fastest clock..if you use a G5 in an application that is embedded with no OS overhead they are screamers compared to Intel parts.
Legal! They need to be legal! Fine the business owners for hiring them. Force the undocumented underground. Back to Mexico with ye! Start another revolution there, so that we can send in another expeditionary force.

I tried to call Randi three times today and each time her handlers would ask me what I wanted to talk about and then say that they would pass it on. Twice, on two separate days earlier, the most recent one two months ago, Randi said exactly what I told her handler minutes after they shuffled me off the phone. I turned off her show today, so I have no idea if they again stole what I wanted to talk to Randi about.
No wonder she’s such a know-it-all! Her people feed her other people’s shit. She doesn’t have that much credibility with me anymore. Her claims to research her stories don’t ring well with me anymore.
I’m tired of her empty rants and shouting over the people, even those who are agreeing with her. I used to stream her at work.
Maybe she’s in love with her celebrity – she certainly plays it up.
Either way, as of today, I have had enough of her.
I feel for you Bascombe.. None of the dems and none of the afternoon left sided drive time talkers are doing much for me these days.
 I was fixing a few errors in something I posted here and was sending it somewhere and was talking to a friend and it was all fixed, with completed sentences and all that — JUST deleting Part of Title (in a Title space)and Poof IT ALL JUST DISAPPEARED. It, the computer, has been doing similar things to me ALL DAY! (hush, I know it is probably me but..) IT IS AGAIN A TANTRUM BY THIS TEMPERAMENTAL Monster Machine.:growl:
(must get tea):cry::???:
Bah, couldn’t listen to Randi at all today. She is too much. I agree with you guys.

Okay, what did Randi say that makes you think she’s for genocide?
Hey Melina,
I’m not ignoring you, I’m just busy. I’ll go to your blog and leave a message.
I remember Randi ranting about the John Gibson rant…

…to which I agree with Randi (and Malloy, BTW)…

Spencer Wells: “Yes. I like to make the flip comment that we’re all becoming more like Tiger Woods, which, socially, is probably a good thing, because these phenotypic divisions between differing groups [meaning, the way different groups appear physically] will break down and it will be impossible to say that people ‘look African,’ or ‘look European.'”
Ethnic cleansing, not genocide. You know the difference, anv.:fire:
The Star (meaning the ROCK Star, of course) -Liberty State Park. The park’s a short ferry ride from the Statue of Liberty. Butt turned toward the Jersey side, the statue faces NY. “Give me your tired, your hungry” Give me****! What drew him here? I could just picture him feeding the ducks, then playing guitar while looking out at the skyline.

I believe the former is an euphemism for the latter.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_cleansing
“The term ethnic cleansing refers to various policies of forcibly removing people of one ethnic group. At one end of the spectrum, it is virtually indistinguishable from forced emigration and population exchange, while at the other it merges with deportation and genocide.”

Ethnic Cleansing:
At the most general level, ethnic cleansing can be understood as the expulsion of an “undesirable” population from a given territory as a result of religious or ethnic discrimination, political, strategic or ideological considerations, or a combination of these.
