Counting down the weekends left here in my own home, but I’ll try not to bitch too much, since I know this is Mr FK’s last weekend at home before heading back to Baghdad (where today’s forecast calls for clear skies, and a high of 100, with an overnight low of 78). Oh, I know he’ll just be hanging out on his hotel balcony with Laura Ingraham, but still, it’s a long way from home – and sometimes it’s hard to find enough crushed ice to make a decent martini.
So it turns out that, despite having Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, diabetes, recovering from a stroke, almost dying in 1999 from Hepatitis C and a liver transplant, and something like 40 broken bones, Evel Knievel isn’t dead yet (hate to say it, but that picture looks kinda like Malloy). Go figure. I coulda sworn he was dead (Evel, not Mike).
In other news, no Rove indictment and no Jimmy Hoffa (unless they dug him up late last night or early this morning – I haven’t looked yet), but maybe – just maybe, we’ve captured one of the “top” Taliban commanders, Mullah Dadullah. This would be the highest ranking military chief since Mullah Magilla Gorilla was captured with Mullah Dummah N’dummah.
Enjoy your Saturday.

Got to listen to the caqned show “live” today.
Damn i need to get a life.

Savage is crazy. He comes on in Portland. What a nutjob! :fu:
In what subject do you tutor?
King Kong, I actually enjoyed TMMS , since he is just taped.
But then again I am :paranoid: :tinfoil: :billcat:, but ๐ with attitude :wink:
Who is your favorite interpreter of Hildegarde?
I tutor all subjects, but mostly aged Kindergarten through 8th grade , though I also tutor GED and adult students in English, writing, and grammar.
Sorry Nicki, but as someone on the other side ofthe planet, the name Savage rings a bell but means nothing. Please gimmie a hint. ๐ณ
Cheers, Suzie. Congrats to you and your efforts. Iwish there were more dedicated people like you.
NickiRose, Sequentia…Is there a better ensemble for medieval music of Hildegard? I have Canticles of Ecstasy.
thanks, it’s something meaningful to do while I get my certification back and get back in the classroom

Play on King AhhhAHHHHHHAhhhhh
Do you like this interpretation?
what kind of music is this exactly, medieval? What should I look for if I want to hear some of it?
I like that ReMax jingle.
never mind, just read the above
I like the ReMax jingle.
I have Canticles of Ecstasy too. Anonymous 4 have done a lot of recordings of Hildegarde’s music.
hmm…
NickiRose, They play on true instruments of the period, but do tell if better. I will check out the above. But I thought there were few that played the instruments of the period. I LOVE Medieval music.
Hildegard of Bingen has been called by her admirers “one of the most important figures in the history of the Middle Ages,” and “the greatest woman of her time.” Her time was the 1100’s (she was born in 1098), the century of Eleanor of Aquitaine, of Peter Abelard and Bernard of Clairvaux, of the rise of the great universities and the building of Chartres cathedral. She was the daughter of a knight, and when she was eight years old she went to the Benedictine monastery at Mount St Disibode to be educated. The monastery was in the Celtic tradition, and housed both men and women (in separate quarters). When Hildegard was eighteen, she became a nun. Twenty years later, she was made the head of the female community at the monastery. Within the next four years, she had a series of visions, and devoted the ten years from 1140 to 1150 to writing them down, describing them (this included drawing pictures of what she had seen), and commenting on their interpretation and significance. During this period, Pope Eugenius III sent a commission to inquire into her work. The commission found her teaching orthodox and her insights authentic, and reported so to the Pope, who sent her a letter of approval. (He was probably encouraged to do so by his friend and former teacher, Bernard of Clairvaux.) She wrote back urging the Pope to work harder for reform of the Church.
The community of nuns at Mount St. Disibode was growing rapidly, and they did not have adequate room. Hildegard accordingly moved her nuns to a location near Bingen, and founded a monastery for them completely independent of the double monastery they had left. She oversaw its construction, which included such features (not routine in her day) as water pumped in through pipes. The abbot they had left opposed their departure, and the resulting tensions took a long time to heal.
Hildegard travelled throughout southern Germany and into Switzerland and as far as Paris, preaching. Her sermons deeply moved the hearers, and she was asked to provide written copies. In the last year of her life, she was briefly in trouble because she provided Christian burial for a young man who had been excommunicated. . .
I have a movie rendition of this story.
The vision is modern instruments. Synthesizer, drums, etc. The singers are wonderful on the recording.
I am only okay with the adaptation and playing of A Renaissance Tour of Europe. I wish I had the my old version of Medieval Music.

I hate that song.:omg:
That is an old list. Numerous excellent recordings have been issued since 1997.
I’ll investigate, always willing to be turned on to new things (Just fed my bird ;))
I am a bit “weird” about insisting in Medieval music played by the instruments of old.
Suzie Joy, You will love  Hildegard.
As I said to NickiRose, I truly believe she, Hildegard, she was copied by the pope where then came the Gregorian Chants.
NickiRose, thx for further proof that the pope stole from her. I knew her history and even more, but not as much that you had re pope. And ReMax jingle?
I hope you wonderful folk are around when I get back….If I don’t feed the :billcat: they will probably break in and eat me.
I know many here don’t like Randi, but in hour 3 Willie Nelson and wife. Good People.

I’m happy because the climbing rose I planted
(New Dawn, the first patented plant 1930) 3 years ago is blooming and starting to look like the pictures in the magazines. My other rose is from ancient Persia “Apothecary’s Rose, R Gallica Officinalis,” and was the House of Lancaster’s Rose in the War of Roses.
Pictures are from the web, not mine!
Isi, Is that your bush?
Druid, the picture is one I found online. My Apothecary’s Rose is younger and not as large as in that picture.
Lamont forced a primary with about 33%! Holy Joe is going down!
I don’t have pictures and my roses have been pretty buds. I have Dublin Bay
Apothecaryโs Rose, R Gallica Officinalis,โ and was the House of Lancasterโs Rose in the War of Roses.
I guess after looking at this one I didn’t see that it was a pic — BUT YOU SAID THEY ARE BEGINNING TO LOOK like…. I have red, but in place I lived while waiting for my home — I planted a white, especially for woman, whose main front window faced that direction. She loved the different roses, so I left most. (She a fighting 74 year dem. Although mine since moving them — It was 3 years ago, has been struggling. But they are blooming. I have another red with gold in center. With a few buds growing too.
So pretty your roses.
cresttwo  I think many including bitch frankenstein, in my California, is feeling that we dems are not amused. (by their actions, or lack of)
It certainly looks like he’s preparing to:
Druid, growing roses is new to me. I have a small border garden where I plant mostly native and other plants that attract butterflies, bees and other insects. It’s been fun.
cresttwo, great news about Lamont!
Did you see this pic?
Frankenstein needs to get out of bed with the RIAA, for starters. A lot of these Dems are in bed with the telcos, too. The Feinstein’s PERFORM Act needs to go away, and Net Neutrality needs to be preserved.
Looks like PJ beat me to it! ๐
Isi, Apothecaryโs Rose, so haunting of yesteryear.
But I have’t been a Rose addicted cuz “I’m in town and roses are picked as soon as they open. I forget name but I think it is something Altos or I wii ask friend.
I planted in frontyard 2 entry rhodedendums, but husband choped a bit with lawn cutter. But they will survive, but new groth gone, and they are baby plants, but still alive:smile:
pjsauter , yes, that is exactly what I said to answering pet … then I called back and bitched about the negative actions and votes regarding “gays”. I reminded her office what city she lives in (and her office is in. I am not making sentences or spelling correctly, because I
I liked Frankenstein and  the philosophy it represented — so it was hard to make fun of Finestein (sp) eck
I have grown roses mostly in town and a few Reds when I was in mountains. The woman realtor who sold us this house gave me first orchid, which still is growing in pot in frontroom, but that is due to I just have to water once a week. It is called something like wild bobcat (ahhhhh) but overall ahhh red roses. They do call me the Red Queen, but that is only because when I get angry I say “Off with their Head.”
I am a bit more careful in saying this now cuz …..:yawn::yawn:
pjsauter, I love the picture of The Lovers :rofl2:
๐ Oh, I was talking about the book…of Frankensein
I am getting Danu and lockin up……

In theory there is this thing called separation of church and state. The “liberal” churches are probably most of the traditional denominations but they haven’t said anything because they legally can’t get into politics. A majority of the UPJ groups meet in churches. There are churches of almost every denomination that are O and A (open and affirming) meaning they don’t care about race, origin or sexual orientation. The M$M just makes you think fundie churches are all there are, an although they probably make up something like 20 – 30 percent of the ‘Cristian” churches in terms of membership they are probably are only about 2% in terms of the number of churches. If the figure of 70% of Americans identify as christians is true I find it amusing that almost no one on the blogs appears at least to be a christian.
Historically the churches making up the United Church of Christ have lead a lot of Justice and Peace causes including voter drives and desegregation in the south in the 1960’s, Barry Lynde who heads the organization “United for Separation of Church and State” is a UCC minister. From what was on the UPJ web site the UCC churches in Portland are gathering points for a lot of the peace activism in the Portland area. In terms of the “mainstream denominations” they are dead last in membership though. The UCC is a combination of the Congregational churches from new England and several other denominations formed in 1957. In terms of fundie like activities they are in the ‘been their done that” category but they were doing their strange things 200 years ago..Wasn’t it said that they put separation of church and state in the constitution to keep the Congregational Church from becoming the national religion ?? ( be really careful in non O and A UCC churches if you are a witch ) Just kidding. :rant1:

Soldiers who refuse to serve in Iraq could face life imprisonment under controversial plans to reform the existing system of courts martial.
Campaigners for justice in the armed forces claimed yesterday that the Government was clamping down on dissent because of the growing opposition to the war. Flight-Lieutenant Malcolm Kendall-Smith was jailed for eight months by a court martial for refusing to serve in Iraq, but campaigners said the Armed Forces Bill will open so-called “refuseniks” to a life sentence.
Section 8 of the Bill makes it clear that a soldier commits an offence if he deserts by going absent without leave permanently, or to avoid any particular service in the armed forces.
The punishment for some forms of desertion – such as going AWOL for a short time while not trying to avoid service – is currently limited to a maximum of two years’ imprisonment. But the Bill specifically states that those going AWOL to avoid serving during a military occupation, as in Iraq, could be jailed for life.

Druid- did you figure out the podcasts?
I am staying in WNY NJ with a Michael Savage fan.
My friend watched the towers fall holding his new baby and I think he flipped out with the fear.
I can’t bear 5min of the Savage man- Such hate!
I hear hate in Mike Malloy (sometimes justified I know) but the spewing of hate obscures
the message in any circumstance in my opinion.
I don’t get this from Maron at all. I perceive an underlying kindness and thoughtfulness.
What am I doing?
I must get over to the city to look at yarn:knit:
We could probably spin you a couple if you stick around :rofl2:
I don’t understand how the thugs and their supporters get away with all this hate speak in public forums like FAUX news and even on these so called ‘religious ” right wing programs.. I would think that encouraging people to live in peace with each other should be the national goal not all this hate BS. There are a lot of people out there who eat up this stuff.. maybe that’s why Marines kill Iraqi families.
Gotta go fred:omg:
Thanks for the offer:knit2:
Bye sheeple:sheep::sheep::sheep::sheep::sheep::smack:
Is Joe Conason spending too much time with Al Franken?
Joe Conason’s words are inexplicable.
Even if the dems manage to get all the house seats for cast they will still probably lose the senate so we will get absolutely nothing done in terms of reversing the damage the thugs have done over the time the Bush admin was in office. If for no other reason than that we have to keep these companies for outsourcing and exporting jobs I can’t support that scenario. There are to many things that need to be fixed in to many places to be solved though an election. The centrists are naive to think that just winning the election will be enough to make anyone happy.:gate::omg:
EcoTalk has Thom Dashhole on talking about bio fuels.. Why do these guys always sound so good then turn out to be so bad ??
Not getting at least one House of Congress out of the Bush enablers hands is, however, a terrifying prospect. Getting just the House would allow for real investigations that could very well stem the march to a totalitarian state, and pave the way to a majority in the Senate, and hopefully somebody other than McCain or Hillary in the White House (a Gore/Feingold, Gore/Edwards, Edwards/Feingold, I dunno – anybody other than McCain/Dole or Clinton/Liebermann).
Daschle only sounded bad before there was Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist.
Any British folks out there? I thought the exchange in the Halle Berry interview was shocking? All you need to do is substitute white for black in the DJ’s comments to know it was racist. And, the station backed him up. Is Britain more racist than America?
Oh, cool, “An Inconvenient Truth” is opening on June 2nd at the Landmark E-Street Cinema in DC – about 3 blocks from where I’ll be working.
Maybe I’m just being cynical but even when the dems were in charge of one house of congress for a while during the first term of the Bush admin they didn’t do diddly. Dashiell has always not impressed me as a leader. neither does Pelosi. its like they put someone expendable in that job in the case the thugs go on a rampage they won’t lose anyone important.
Things have changed in the Democratic Party since they last had control. Look at the rise of the liberal media in radio and in the blogosphere. You could see the positive effects of having an active netroots in the CT convention yesterday, with Lamont forcing a primary. If the Democrats don’t do diddly, there will be a huge outcry from all of us. It will be our responsibility to make them do the right thing.
The email and calling campaigns that went on during the conformation hearings for the supreme court justices seem to have fallen on def ears in so much as a lot of dem senators voted for those guys. They even said they got a lot of “spam” emails against them.. Like their constituents constantly pestering them was spam. maybe a couple of hundred thousand people calling, writing and emailing them is not enough if the DLC says to vote for them.
George Galloway had an intersting discussion on his show a few weeks back about racism in the UK – not just white/black, but Pakistanis and other groups as well. People being people, there will always be racism.
The again, if the DJ had said he was attempting to do an impression of a big fat Irish guy, or a big fat Italian guy, or whatever, would that have been racist? I’ve seen plenty of comedians do impressions of differennt ethnic groups, and this impression – while not very good, and while I’m not sure what it has to do with James Bond – didn’t sound particularly racist to me. He wasn’t exactly channeling Kingfish from Amos & Andy.
So, I dunno.
Well, I guess my attitude is we can just say, “fuck it, it’s hopeless, and nothing will ever work,” or we can try and do something. The only way anything will even begin to change is to get the people that are currently calling themselves Republicans out of power – or at least out of having complete and total domination.
It’s not that I think the Democratic Party is particularly wonderful or capable or courageous. Clearly, they caved to Bush after 9/11, but so did the vast majority of the American people. 90% approval ratings – one can understand why Democrats were reluctant to appear to obstruct him. Things aren’t that way now, and while the Democrats aren’t exactly listed in Webster’s under the entry for “spine,” there are at least a few that appear ready and capable of standing up.
None of that happens w/o at least one branch of government, and the House – because of the way the rules work – is better to have than the Senate. Just having control of the Conference Committee would be a huge help.
Lieberman was one of those senators where our efforts fell on deaf ears and he is feeling the effects right now of ignoring us.
Hey L.A.Seditionistas! Check this out:
Angelenos, please repost! Save this dog!!
Body: Old man goes for his last walk ๐
A133903 – Blackie has been at our shelter for almost 5 months! Can you imagine being in jail for almost 5 months and you did NOTHING wrong and you know you’re innocent?
Blackie did nothing but love his owners for 14 years!!! Does he deserve this? His owners turned him into our shelter because he was ill………….ill? He has not shown any ill symptom of any sort! He is as healthy as can be! Remember he has been here for almost 5 months and has not even developed kennel cough or URI!!!!
He is healthier than most of our younger dogs!
Today I took him for a walk because he has been signed off for Monday morning ๐
When I took him out of his kennel, I can almost read his mind. He was almost smiling! After witnessing all the dogs that have been getting adopted in HIS kennel over the last 4 months………he thought it was his turn to go home. Instead, after taking him for a walk, I had to put him back ๐ It broke both our hearts. I promised him I will try my BEST to get him out of here.
He was so happy when I took him for a walk. He was lifting his chin up high against the wind as if he was breathing “freedom”. Then I noticed he had an underbite! So cute! I asked him to sit and he sat! I sat next to him and just stared at him and he kept looking at everyone coming into the shelter and greeting them wagging his tail.
Since I already promised him I will get him out, can you please help this poor old man? This might be his last walk……….please let him have plenty of more walks to go to………he deserves it.
He has been here since 01-25-06! He gets along with every dog and every person. He has been neutered and is about 14 yrs.
Please help cross post and HELP…….remember we only have until
Monday ๐
Thank you so much

Yes. He was doing an impression of a thief.
I really hope that Liebermann becomes an example to the DINOs out there, that acting like a Republican is not the way to win elections..
Better take the Sporanos off the air, then. And if he was trying to be a Bond “nemesis,” is that necessarily a thief? Or a criminal mastermind? And does that make a difference? Maybe that was just the idea of a “tough” guy that jumped into his head. I dunno.
Not the same thing. Isn’t James Gandolfini Italian?
Here’s what the interviewer said, “I’m a black American guy. A big, fat, black guy. Put your hands up in the air.”
When a politician like Lieberman does something stupid so close to the election its one thing but in the senate they are their for so long that if you discover you mad an error you get to live with it for what seems like forever. In some of these burbs around Denver the loss of High tech jobs is decimating the quality of life because the jobs at Office Depot and Lowe’s just don’t pay the same. The bill collectors just don’t wait around for six years so the new senate can tell you you “sorry about those jobs don’t you like the new one at WalMart ??” Then it takes another 12 years to get the economic base built up mean while the roads turn into dirt tracks and the schools fall apart and no one can afford the taxes to make it any better so they elect more thugs to office because the dems have made such a mess out of everything..
WTO and epigones! Thank you Bill.
“Hey, ZZ Top!” Who said that?:omg::rofl2:
Suzie, come out and play :joe: I thought I heard that, just now
The problems we see most are the techies in their late 40’s and early to mid 50’s who lost a job with benefits at 25 – 35 an hour and a wife working for maybe half that much, had kids in college, a mortgage, a car payment and some credit card dept. When they got laid off they sort of assumed it was just another recession and tried to ride it out on their credit cards running up 20 to 30 k in new debt but now five years later they have a job at 12 dollars and hour or no job at all, have pulled their kids out of college and have them working at McD’s, their wife is now either divorced or working for six dollars an hour, they have traded off their second car, taken a second mortgage on their house and are still having trouble paying off the 27% interest credit card debt and their kids student loans. They have no medical insurance. A lot of them are lets say a tad bit ticked off and if the dems don’t turn things around they might start being creative. The American dream has failed them completely and they are not what one would have thought of as the American poor.:rant1::rant1::rant1:

Spencer Wells is awesome. I participated in the Genographic Project he administers. The DVD is awesome. And, at the end, he says something like in essence we are all Africans. I love that.
PJ, Mike said, “I gotta meet this guy. I love him! Thanks for thinking of me!”
I’m going to set him up on his computer to see if we can get him to shoot us a post or two from there…but don’t hold your breath. He’s hard to nail down sometimes!

We went for a hike today at Pine Mountain (near FDR’s beloved Warm Springs). It was slow going in spots but I did it! It’s the most exercise I’ve done in over a year since I had really slowed down because of the old valve. When I was younger ( A LOT younger) I ran a few marathons so being able to exercise again is a blessing from the heavens. :priest:
Also, I just watered the plants in the MS Basket (sounds like a ship and it’s practically as big as one!) and want you ALL to know that it is still beautiful and brings me smiles.

don’t know if you all saw this, but I did I checked to see the roll call vote and, yep, my congressman Westmoreland sided with big oil. i emailed all my local rethug friends with the news.

When I first read this, it took me a minute to figure out that you guys were discussing roses. No brownie points for guessing where MY mind is today. :hubba:
Then I saw that picture of Bush and Lieberman that will no doubt give me nightmares tonight. Unless I can amuse myself by coming up with a way for Lamont to use it in a campaign ad.

DENVER – Colorado posted the highest foreclosure rate in the nation for the second month in a row in April, the result of what one expert calls a โโperfect stormโโ of debt, unsold homes and bankruptcies.
A report released Tuesday by RealtyTrac Inc. of Irvine, Calif., found 3,706 homes in Colorado were in foreclosure in April. That equals one of every 494 households; the national average is one in 1,268 households.
Colorado kept the top ranking even though the number of foreclosures dropped by 31 percent from March, when 5,392 homes were in foreclosure. Nationally, foreclosures fell 10 percent to 91,168 in April from 101,597 in March.
โโThereโs a perfect stormโโ behind the high number of Colorado foreclosures, said Mary Wenke, public trustee of Arapahoe County. She said her office opened 436 foreclosure cases last month, compared with 288 in April 2005.
She cited a glut of unsold homes on the market, credit card debt held by homeowners, homes purchased without down payments and a record number of bankruptcies. She also noted that adjustable rate mortgages, whose interest rates are beginning to rise, will mean even more foreclosures in the months ahead.

These are not the lower middle class having to throw in the towel either.. A lot end up standing in line at the soup kitchen while living out of their SUV..
The world can’t wait.
Sunday morning on Face The Nation, since as usual CBS can’t be bothered to update their website, Torture Boy Gonzales will be the main guest, along with senators Feinstein and Senselessbrenner. Topic will be the latest Bushie distraction issue, immigration.
Although I guess I should be happy the topic isn’t white women getting bitten by alligators. :smack:
The other shows don’t sound worth watching either. I can’t even remember who’s on This Week, and on Meet the Pus, Timmy Potato Head has three Repugs and no Dems. He must be trying to wrest the “Fair And Balanced” crown away from Faux News.
All in all, a good morning to go get my hair cut. Or. more likely, just roll over and catch a few more Z’s.

Report: Ozone Hole May Disappear by 2050 Sat May 20, 9:01 AM ET
TOKYO – The ozone hole over the Antarctic is likely to begin contracting in the future and may disappear by 2050 because of a reduction in the release of chlorofluorocarbons and other ozone-depleting gases, according to a team of Japanese scientists.
The findings are based on a series of numerical simulations carried out by Eiji Akiyoshi of the National Institute for Environmental Studies, near Tokyo, using projected emissions of chlorofluorocarbons and other gases blamed for the ozone hole.
According to a report posted Friday on the institute’s Web site, the hole is at its largest now but is likely to gradually start contracting around 2020 and disappear by around 2050.
The team’s findings are in line with research by other scientists.
Some, however, have suggested the hole won’t heal until much later because old refrigerators and air-conditioning systems โ many in the United States and Canada โ are still releasing ozone-killing chemicals. Both countries curbed those chemicals in newer products.
Satellites and ground stations have been monitoring the ozone hole over the South Pole since its discovery in the 1980s.
Chlorofluorocarbon levels in the earth’s atmosphere have been declining since the mid-1990s due to international efforts to reduce emissions.

:banana:here it is the long awaited highly anticipated second installment of my journey to see maron in LA!!!!!
So I went to sleep and woke up wanted to get an oil change but they wouldnโt be able to get it done before I needed to be at the place to get loaded so I screwed around then headed over to the spot. Damn plane with the gear on it didnโt show up until 8pm so I sat all day there when I could have had my oil change! BASTARDS! So I finally got loaded THEN I found out I needed to be in Laredo in the morning little more than 400 miles south of Dallas. So I rolled down and called the office after I dropped my trailer they told me to head to LA for a Sunday pickup of some Broadway show for Sunday night. I left the place where I dropped the trailer and headed to the truck stop checked the Marc Maron shows website saw that he was doing a friday night show! So I decided it was imperative that I hit the road that instant drove along these two lane roads in nowhere Texas for most of the day saw there was a lake on my route took about 20 pictures of the lake with my last roll of film. Got back in my truck and hit the road again came across the Pecos river beautiful river deep down in a canyon stopped after I crossed it to use the rest of my film while cursing my liberal use of film earlier that day! When I hopped out of my truck I looked over and saw a big black dog on the other side of the road. I tried calling the dog over but it ignored me so I headed down the hill and got to a fence the fence had a sign that said there was a fiber optic line there was a ladder over the fence so I climbed over and when I looked to my left I saw a goat! I had to take a picture of the goat! So I walked closer to the goat and a couple more came out of the brush next thing I know there are about fifteen goats in the middle of this old abandoned road. I kept walking closer and they backed up they were obviously scared I was hoping one or two would stay until I got close enough but they kept jumping off the road down this ten or twelve foot drop. I think I got a picture of one in mid jump but I havenโt developed the film yet. Then I walked down to the edge of the cliff and used the last of my film taking pictures of the river. After that I hopped back in my truck and got to rolling once again drove all the way to El Paso TX that night.
How many installments are there, man? Goats!:jason:
travisdem_04, Yeh right — $100.00 — why can’t there at least a section saved for we non super rich folk? Bah HumBug.

Ethnic Cleansing Takes Hold
Iraq is Disintegrating
By PATRICK COCKBURN
Khanaqin, North-East Iraq
Across central Iraq, there is an exodus of people fleeing for their lives as sectarian assassins and death squads hunt them down. At ground level, Iraq is disintegrating as ethnic cleansing takes hold on a massive scale.
The state of Iraq now resembles Bosnia at the height of the fighting in the 1990s when each community fled to places where its members were a majority and were able to defend themselves. “Be gone by evening prayers or we will kill you,” warned one of four men who called at the house of Leila Mohammed, a pregnant mother of three children in the city of Baquba, in Diyala province north-east of Baghdad. He offered chocolate to one of her children to try to find out the names of the men in the family.
Mrs Mohammed is a Kurd and a Shia in Baquba, which has a majority of Sunni Arabs. Her husband, Ahmed, who traded fruit in the local market, said: “They threatened the Kurds and the Shia and told them to get out. Later I went back to try to get our furniture but there was too much shooting and I was trapped in our house. I came away with nothing.” He and his wife now live with nine other relatives in a three-room hovel in Khanaqin.
The same pattern of intimidation, flight and death is being repeated in mixed provinces all over Iraq. By now Iraqis do not have to be reminded of the consequences of ignoring threats.
In Baquba, with a population of 350,000, gunmen last week ordered people off a bus, separated the men from the women and shot dead 11 of them. Not far away police found the mutilated body of a kidnapped six-year-old boy for whom a ransom had already been paid.

A Sean adventure and people talking about me and I was sleeping??? :omg:
Druid, it’s Suzie Joy because I can’t remember the password to Susan Joy (yes, I registered with this site twice),does that explain the “Z” ?
Or is it the other way around? Can’t remember. Um… My roses???
I am watching “Amerucan Werewolf in Paris” ๐ฎ
I am back and forth ๐
Oh, I remember that movie ๐ Good morning
Druid – the fire was four years ago on Memorial Day. Was just thinking that I’m finally over it, because this is the first year I was able to look at my journals without being upset – I had about a dozen books, personal journals with writing and artwork, that I saved because they were buried inside one of the closets, but I couldn’t look at them for emotional reasons because they still have a fire smell on them. This year it didn’t bother me, though. I think I’m starting to be free of that event
It was NickiRoses Apothecary Rose, but you have roses also:wink:
AhhhhhhOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooo
z or s ๐ :pent::love::knit: re the fire and the healing:love::pent:
I have a 2nd sign-on also cuz of not being able to do Druid, thus= old name sidhewolf666 then finally I realize I can do Druid plus = Druid_666. I am a Wiccan Druid. Wiccan since a wee one …A Druid connected to England and Ireland and …
I am so happy to have connected with a Lib — We do so much :rofl2:
4:00 am ๐ฎ — what are you doing up so early?
Well the fire was just one in a long chain of events “death/ending” an old way of being for me (illness, 9/11, divorce, loss of my dad, career change, whole shitload of things), starting around 2000/2001. I’m really just coming out of that phrase now and emerging into the light. …I was trained as a Wiccan about 10-15 years ago, but ended up more on an eclectic pagan path,I still explore/incorporate disparate religious ideas… my strongest thing with that is herbal/plant and earth skills
I tried to train my body to wake up for the Marc Maron show which comes on here at 1 AM, but my body (naturally) screwed up and wakes me up from 2 to 3 AM, what can I say? LOL
How can we love Marc so much, even though he screwed our/everyones sleep time so badly.
hey, the 1 AM thing is not his fault
Intense Cycle Release Change…I watch my words since I can be so morose. Have you, can you now write or paint or draw the haunting of the flame?
I pretty much can, yeah. I just wrote something the other day actually, not just about the fire, but putting everything that’s been happening to me into some sort of perspective. Not sure if I’m ready to post it on my blog yet, though.
My morose nature is what makes my art and writings.
Teasing: :rofl2:It is all his fault since you are changing the Norm for him:love::rofl2:
I made Margaritas this night so my head is already nodding and I still have to care for all my gremlins (as Grandfather called all kids, but I am using it for all Pals, :billcat: (we need a Crazy Dog Emo :rofl2: )
Well, whatever mood gets you to create, go for it… when I get depressed I just whine though , my best creativeness usually comes from me being happy ๐
Gremlins is a cute word
:yuck: I don’t feel too good, man:barf:Ughhhh…yuck.
Oh, hey Travis… not such a good morning for you? ๐
Late, late night. I don’t know what the deal is.:yuck:
Never me, that is why I love the night (and friends say vampire me teehee) I write on the dark side. I guess as a little child I worshiped Dickens, Poe, Shakespeare, and things that go bump in the night (ok, a maniacal laugh is brewing) YaAhAh
:omg: :rofl2:
Travis, WHAT do you have to calm your tummy, or force a bit a good :barf: to get rid of nausa? OR :bong: that calms tummy.
come to the dark side ….LOL. I have that in me, also, believe me. ::insert maniacal Jack Nicholson-in-The-Shining emo here:::
Travis, chamomile tea is nice to settle the stomach, or is it past that point??
I’m drinking some water, and that is helping a little. One minute ’til the Sunday Thread
Chamomile: the apple of the ground. Yeah, good idea. Thanks:nod:
the fresh herb does smell like apple. Yeah, I’m waiting for that new thread with Baited Breath (I don’t understand that saying, actually)
The Dark Side:
Just recently I got about an approximately 4″ x 4″ tattoo of a black dragon with yellow/gold “aura” around the dragon to let all know that “Not all in black is evil” ๐ As Catholic Priests — which I use to be very close to and I am a Reverend. Willie Nelson is on Randi
When I do Yoga I put it on the inside near ankle so when I do a lotus, but mostly half lotus, or cross legs, then I can see it. I am Lib with Cancer/Leo Rising on the Lion side.
Susan go to new stream!!!!!!:!:
