Got a lot to do over the next few days – buy some clothes, do some laundry, buy a little coffee maker and a “dorm” refrigerator. I ordered a little USB TV tuner/mpeg-2 encoder so I can watch TV on my laptop, and I set up a VPN so I can connect to my home network from the Internet (which will allow me to access all my files, get the e-mail off the mail server I run, and – I hope – download the season finale of the Sporanos on June 4th from my ReplayTV, though it’ll take a while with my asynchronous cable connection; I wish I’d gone for the FiOS, with 2 Mbps upstream).
I checked my freezer and (unlike William Jefferson) since I didn’t find $90 grand in there, I guess I’d better get ready to get ready to get going. Now if I could just figure out that goddamn coffee mug.

Xcel Energy is having trouble finding hundreds of people it needs for construction of a $1.4 billion power plant in Pueblo, partially because of a dearth of skilled workers and union restrictions on whom it can hire.
The power company needs electricians, plumbers, pipefitters, carpenters, welders and boiler makers. The project will have to hire more than 1,000 workers at peak of construction late next year, about two-thirds of them in a few months.
But fewer than 400 turned up at a job fair in Pueblo last Monday. That compares with the 1,500 who had attended the first such fair in October, 160 of whom went into apprenticeships.
Trade unions spearheading the labor search now are planning a third job fair in the fall

News Story – Seeking immediate release
Is Anyone Out There?
We don’t have to turn our eyes to the Middle East to find conflict surrounding religious intolerance. We have a “quiet war” being waged, right now, within our own national borders.
May and June 2006, in San Francisco, California, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit will be making a decision in a legal battle, one that has tremendous impact on the religious freedom of our own Indigenous Americans.
Religious rights, environmental integrity, preservation of historical and sacred sites, plant and wildlife protection: all hinge on the pending case filed by several Native American Nations (Navajo Nation, Havasupai Tribbe, Hope Tribe , Hualapai Tribe) vs United States Forest Service. These Native American tribes seek to overturn a previous legal decision to allow expansion of a ski resort on the San Francisco Mountain and approval to use wastewater to make snow at the resort.
The San Francisco Mountains are considered to be a Sacred Place, a place that is shared and honored by over 13 Native American tribes. The pristine land still provides minerals, native plants and herbs used for medicinal, ceremonial, traditional and spiritual purposes. The land is home to many sacred sites and used for religious practice representing their core and spiritual homeland. The Native American tribes seek to protect this historic, cultural and sacred place and prevent wastewater from poisoning pristine, organic herbs, minerals and plants, birds, fish and animals.
Previous efforts to save the mountains have fallen on deaf ears.
Several groups including The Sierra Club and The Save the Peaks organization have attempted to block expansion of the Arizona Snowbowl and the use of wastewater for snowmaking. A documentary film, The Snowbowl Effect was produced to bring light to the ongoing battle. The first legal decision favored the Forest Service and expansion of the Snowbowl including using wastewater for snowmaking. The appeal brought by the Native American tribes alleges violations in federal laws including the Religions Freedom Restoration Act, the National Historic Preservation Act and the National Environmental Policy Act.
Today, as thousands of illegal immigrants seek to make a stand in this country, we are reminded that the majority of us are all immigrants here. The Indigenous people of this continent are asking for assistance and support to preserve their national treasure.
The Arizona Snowbowl LLC and the United States Forest Service seek to expand this recreational facility, and allow the use of wastewater, in their rights to seek financial profit.
This is an opportunity to save one of the last sacred sites for the original Americans.
Do we choose the expansion of a ski resort or the preservation of a sacred, cultural and historical legacy and bringing a sense of justice to a people that have paid too high a price.

Hey Susan that link does not work
Jefferson is the Dem scapegoat for 2006. The M$M will have 30 words about him for every word they say in total about the 30 something thugs that are being investigated.

Jefferson was a corrupt freelancer . . . a more-or-less random member of congress abusing his office for personal gain. Compare this to the case of Tom DeLay, the key mover-and-shaker in the Republican caucus for many years and an important one for years before that. His muck-worthy activities not only accrued to a more significant player, but also bore a direct relationship to the creation and sustenance of the GOP machine.
But the Repugs win by never ever shutting up… 🙁

Good morning 🙂
One of the first bands to emerge from the raucous Northwest scene started by The Kingsmen and The Wailers, The Sonics possibly surpassed them all. They took the Frat Rock sounds of their Seattle area contemporaries and combined it with the grit of British Invasion bands such as The Yardbirds and The Animals to create their own undeniable sound. Formed by brothers Andy and Larry Parypa (bass and guitar respectively) they named themselves after and possibly tried to emulate, the sonic booms produced by the nearby Boeing factory. Joined by drummer Bob Bennett, sax player Rob Lind and most importantly Gerry Roslie, perhaps the finest vocalist of the garage era; it was his crazed, Little Richard inspired voice that led to the band being a huge live draw in the North West. Spotted by Wailer’s bass player Buck Ormsby, they recorded for the Wailer’s Etiquette label. Their first release “The Witch” (1965) perfectly illustrated their dynamic, raw, unique sound, and became a massive, local hit. Too big a hit in fact, as demand in the Northwest caused distribution to the rest of the country to dry up, and it was never a national smash. However, this perhaps worked in The Sonics favor, as they never diluted their sound for mass consumption, but maintained the raucous sound the Northwest kids loved. This was apparent in their following releases “Psycho” (1965) and their first album “Here Are The Sonics” (1965). However this intensity was hard to keep up. Lack of national recognition plus internal problems led to this powerhouse band to combust by 1968.

CHOCOLATE WATCHBAND
This Southern California punk powerhouse were one of the finest exponents of English influenced R & B, and on a good day, even gave The Rolling Stones a run for their money. The sneering vocals of Dave Aguilar were complemented by Mark Loomis (guitar), Sean Tolby (guitar), Bill Flores (bass) and Gary Andrijasevich (drums). Spotted by legendary producer and songwriter Ed Cobb, the man who also developed The Standells sound, their first release was a cover of Davie Allen’s Blue’s Theme, released under the name The Hogs. The first release under their own name was a classic slice of Ed Cobb. Sweet Young Thing (1966) was a searing, evil slab of raw, powerful R & B, with Aguilar’s vocals a stand-out. Their debut album No Way Out featured the soon-to-be garage standard, Let’s Talk About Girl’s (1967), though Cobb decided to replace Aguilar’s raw vocal track with the more dulcet tones of session singer Don Bennett. This kind of producer and label involvement caused disharmony in the group and soon members were coming and going with increased regularity. However, Cobb kept the group’s name alive, releasing the album The Inner Mystique (1968), featuring a whole slew of studio musicians, though the album did contain excellent versions of The Kinks’ I’m Not Like Everybody Else and Bob Dylan’s It’s All Over Now Baby Blue. A final album One Step Beyond (1969) again seemed to be the producer’s vehicle though it did feature Aguilar’s terrific track Don’t Need Your Lovin’. The groups influence seemed to grow and grow as the years passed, finding new audience’s and fans generation after generation.

omigod, once I researched every band I could find with the word “chocolate” in their title (for an article I wrote/tie-in) and came up with them… so I do know them (though I’m far from an expert on this type of music!!!)
13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS
The term psychedelic hardly seems enough to contain the mighty 13th Floor Elevators, true rock visionaries. They were exceptional in a variety of respects, first appearing out of the wilds of Texas, featuring wildly unusual instrumentation and a true genius/madman in the form of guitar/vocalist Roky Erikson. Erikson was poached from The Spades by The Lingsmen, featuring Stacy Sutherland (guitar), Benny Thurman (bass), John ‘Ike’ Walton (drums). Once they’d acquired the electric jug prowess of Tommy Hall, they became The Thirteenth Floor Elevators. Their debut single You’re Gonna Miss Me was written by Erikson while he was still in The Spades, but the Elevators rawness and Hall’s amazing ‘chooga-chooga’ jug sound ensured the record’s success. However, the band soon developed a reputation for bad behaviour and drug use and were constantly under the scrutiny of local Texas law enforcement. The band headed out to the West Coast while the heat died down, developing a live following, particularly in San Francisco. They created, perhaps, the first true psychedelic artifact with the release of The Psychedelic Sounds Of The Thirteenth Floor Elevators (1966), produced by Kenny Rogers brother Lelan and released on the tiny International Artists label. Featuring an often imitated garish cover it contained a unique sound that couldn’t be replicated, particularly the Texas punk masterpieces Fire Engine and Reverberation. Around the time of their second album Easter Everywhere (1967), disaster struck the band. Following yet another drug bust by the Texan authorities, Erikson faced a long prison spell. Pleading insanity, he was confined to the Rush State Hospital for the Criminally Insane for several years, an experience from which he never recovered. The band released one more album, Bull Of The Woods (1968), that only contained one Erikson track, May The Circle Remain Unbroken, one of their finest and most unusual moments.
I’m trying to wean myself from caffeine, Druid…it’s herbal stuff all the way for me lately… it’s difficult…
Anybody listen to Little Steven’s UnderGround Garage Sunday?
Awesome, now I want to hear psychedelic music for the rest of the day…

Hey everybody…
Kev- Dont say what happened on 24!!!!!!!!!!! I taped it!

I just read a very funny review of the Gore movie in the times select. It is an op ed by Tierny and basically says that the movie is compelling in a way but that Gore doesnt really offer the hard choices that migth be unpopular, like a gas tax…the reality of giving up the huge cars…everything is long term and fuzzy. I wonder if thats right. He says that the movie is revenge of the nerd.
I love Gore and I hope to God he runs….at least he is smart.

Nuggets was originally released in 1972 as a double album. It celebrated the garage rock music of the mid 60’s with future Patti Smith guitarist Lenny Kaye providing dead-on liner notes. The band’s featured on the album laid the blueprint for such bands as The New York Dolls, The Stooges and Patti Smith as well as the punk movement. The songs are no nonsense, crazed out rockers with some psychedelia and dance tracks thrown in.
I have a direct link lately to Thalia, the muse of comedy…lately everything I’m writing cracks me up :omg: only problem is most of it is still in my head, going to have to write more of it down :rofl2:

Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968 [LP]
(1972)
Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From the First Psychedelic Era is a compilation album of garage rock from the mid- to late 1960s, assembled by Jac Holzman, founder of Elektra Records. Assisting him was Lenny Kaye, who later became the guitarist for the Patti Smith Group. Together, the two men assembled a 2-LP set of American garage rock cuts. The album was originally released by Elektra Records in 1972, and reissued, with a new cover design, in 1976 by Sire Records. The liner notes, penned by Lenny Kaye, gave a brief biography of each band.

I was way into Psychadelic/garage punk in the eighties and nineties and The Sonics was one of the bands amoung them. They were on one of the Pebbles compilations from the NW but they kind of stand out amoung bands of that kind. They were the first grunge band.
In a recent column I wrote about police interrogation tactics that lead a surprising number of people to confess to crimes they didn’t commit. It turns out that corporate America has followed suit. Many large corporations take a “loss prevention” approach that utilizes training manuals modeled after the leading police manuals — using the very techniques that cause false confessions. http://www.counterpunch.org/nader05202006.html

Looking from the inside you feel,
Nothing on the outside is real.
Does it really show?
All the other kid’s put you down,
No one ever wants you around. No one want’s an alien.
Never ever thought you could feel
Cuz everything around you stands still
But will they ever know?
Dreaming of a place far away
Know that you were born here a stray
Does it realy show?
Cant make it playing their games,
When everyone plays it all the same
No one wants an alien
Never ever thought you could feel.
Cuz everything around you stands still.
But will they ever know?
Looking from the inside you feel,
Nothing on the outside is real.
Does it really show?
The vision keeps coming at you still,
Cause somthing deep inside you is real.

I got your fanzine, if that’s the mail you’re talking about. I only scanned it though and now it’s buried under a bunch of mail.
It’s around somewhere, I saw it the other day
The Best Kissers In The World are quite possible the best band no one has ever heard of. My old band, Bubblegum Crash , once played CBGB’s the week after they did and drew more people. Their history is spiraling and confusing. Their musical output was disappointingly low. But for pure 90’s Power Pop, no band (even the famed Redd Kross) could match their quirky lyrics, tuneful riffs and mammoth power. Starting out in Phoenix, Arizona, the band moved to Seattle (before the grunge explosion), where a series of releases on Lucky and Sub Pop lead to a short-lived, under- promoted major label career. For an all too short time, they proudly carried the power pop torch lit by 70’s acts like Cheap Trick and the Flaming Groovies into the early 90’s.
I lived in Seattle in the early 1990s. I must have ran into them–or saw them. I don’t know.
My friend has not been on Tyger Thom’s show yet.:omg:
His morning KPOJ is not as weird as his national show is.

Yeah, Sun City Girls are pretty quirky and their records are worth a bunch if you can find them. They play rarely anymore but have a lot of records. They put on great shows and it seems Seattle brought them an audience other than their friends.
To stream Hartlessman’s national show go to this link and choose one of the streams
http://www.thomhartman.com/showlisten.shtml
Hartman is on as the morning host on KPOJ from 6 am to 9 am PDT and then has his national show which has different content from 9 am to 12 am.( but not on KPOJ) The most reliable stream seems to be the one off of the AAR web site. Use the stream from AAR from the link .. They have two streams one has Franken on it and the other has Hartman on it.
Thanks Fred, I was wondering how his two shows were different
Paranoia as Policy
How Bush Brewed the Iran Crisis
By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS
Why did the Bush regime create a crisis over Iran?
The answer is that the Bush regime is desperate to widen the war in the Middle East.
What has Iran done? Unlike Israel, Pakistan and India, countries that developed nuclear weapons on the sly, Iran signed the non-proliferation treaty. Countries that sign this treaty have the right to develop nuclear energy. The International Atomic Energy Agency monitors their energy programs to guard against the programs being used to cloak a weapons program. Until the Bush regime provoked a crisis, Iran was cooperating with the inspection safeguards. The weapons inspectors have found no Iranian weapons programs.
There is no evidence for the Bush regime’s accusation that Iran is developing nuclear weapons. What the Bush regime is trying to do is to unilaterally take away Iran’s right under the non-proliferation treaty to develop nuclear energy. It is the Bush regime that is violating the treaty by attempting to deny its benefits to Iran. The Bush regime is acting illegally because of its paranoid suspicion that 5 or 10 years in the future Iran will use what it has managed to learn about uranium enrichment to develop a weapons program.
:::writing::: will be back in a short while
If you ever get into an argument with a Reich winger ask them if there is any place within 50 feet or less of their office where one can park a 25 foot Ryder truck. Most of the time they won’t have a clue as to what you might be talking about..
Here’s something that should scare the poop out of you:
Ask ten people at random [especially in NY where the Murdoch Post soils the public discourse] if they heard the story about the Iranians requiring Jews and Christians to wear badges, a la the Nazis.
Its a total crap story that has been debunked [check out Juan Cole’s site] but the lie has gone around the world while the truth has barely put on its boots. Liberals believe it too.
This gives you an idea as to what Al Gore is up against. Maureen Dowd and all the other news skanks have been making up lies for ten years, and he’s got to fumigate the national discourse to have any chance at all. Good luck to him.
Does anyone apologize for lying anymore?

Oh, anybody see Friedman on Charlie Rose last night? OK. Now I’m gone:smack:
Didn’t see Friedman but Sam Seder ridiculed him last night on the Majority Report.
Awesome weather, Travis, soak up that sun! 😎
Here’s the latest on the Gore movie opening tomorrow, via Atrios.
The Gore movie opens in Tampa on June 16. I’m taking the day off work to go see it. Sucks that I have to wait so long, but I guess living in Jebworld I should be happy it’s playing here at all.
Here’s to you, Jeb :fu:
I plan on catching it on June 2nd in DC. It comes to Syracuse on June 30th. I’m surprised I can’t find a torrent for it yet (I’d still pay to go see it, though).
When do you leave for DC, PJ?
Inconvenient Truth opens June 9 in St. Louis (Frontenac)

Alright, well, I just saw Hillary today, and she basically said what Friedman said last night. So, I’m kinda curious why Sam ridiculed Friedman – probably about his initial support for the war. I dunno. Anyway, my legs hurt. OK, I’m done.
Looks like Charlie got the ABC World News Tonight gig. I wonder if he’ll mention Bob woodruff or Vogt at the end of each broadcast, like what Vargas did. OK. Looks like you sheeple left, so I’m out, too
I’ll be leaving next Monday, I’m afraid.

“Jellocrats” (Except for 3) Cave Again And Join the Republican Busheviks to Endorse Man Who Committed Illegal Acts, Hayden, as CIA Director. 12-3 Vote by Senate UnIntelligence Committee
FUBAR
SNAFU
Hey, private. You are SOL. And AWOL.
FTA: :fu:The Army! :omg:
I’m hungry. As soon as I finish this pizza I’ll blog.
Hayden was never going to be blocked, because his career pre-dates the coming to power of the crypto-fascist zomby brigade. Is thought to be competent, even if he got his skirts stained during the NSA spying thing, and competence is a rarity with these guys. Don’t say i agree, but enough Dems apparently do. We need a competent CIA, don’t we? Well, this might be the best we’re going to get.
Anybody out there happier with Scalito than they would have been with Harriet?
Isi, Fred, and All, I just called Diane Feinstein’s Office to say that I have my husband’s proxy in area code 91030 (Rather “richie” area — sounds good) and I vote in this area — And as I had worked for Feinstein in past, I/We will work now to get rid of her. And I am from The City, which she calls base. She was very unwise in voting for Hayden! She has proven she is a republican. I am calling the Local DNC in my City now — tomorrow since it is almost 5:00pm. Rats:!:
Time to “get busy” in my local DNC again and/or other strategy with the Greens.

Isi, re Dixie Chicks, I did not ever listen to country, but since their anti-bush stand I NOW BUY THEIR MUSIC:!:

Greetings Bloggiepoos!
Sorry I’ve been absent. mr fk had a slight change in plans and left today. we had tons to do – he had to pass things over to me like bills…yuck
ADVICE: Do NOT watch Baghdad ER the night before your loved one leaves for Iraq. ’tis not a comforting thing. A friend called me after watching it and said, “I can’t believe he can only walk 1/2 mile and then must turn around.” I was incredulous. HE DOES NOT LIVE IN THE GREEN ZONE, HE’S IN THE RED ZONE, HE CAN NOT WALK ANYWHERE OUTSIDE WITHOUT FULL BLOWN SECURITY. What don’t people get about this war and what the soldiers and reporters go through? You tell people, but it doesn’t register. (jim needs to do a wheel of anger on this)
I’ll let you guys know when he makes it through Route Irish…he has a stop or two to make before that, though.
Epilogue: My hike on Sat. left me on the couch for two days. Won’t do that again for a while. It was fun while it lasted.
COFFEE MUG: PJ, I wish I could help you with that mug, sorry! I also hope we get your DC Updates regularly.
Melina: Hugs to you and Will. Hope he is doing ok.
Hayden: any dem who voted for him is in denial and should be voted out of office. REGIME CHANGE BEGINS AT HOME.
lesson learned: i was informed that i’m wrong about brian ross – he’s not that accurate I’m told…
HEARTS: To you guys for all your good wishes.
I was so lazy today, I didn’t do anything but play video games 🙄 I don’t care.

Hello, anybody still here? Anyone in L.A. here? Is there a game still on? The stream is not working, so I’m guessing there’s a game on. Anyway, hello all, and greetings from Dianne Feinstein territory, (“Di-Fi”, as we call her here in SF), she who voted for Hayden. :growl:
Hey, I didn’t vote for her, and neither did my friends. We (Peace and Freedom Party) and the Greens are both running someone against her.
Later, sheeple. I’m going to the Lagoon
:omg: It’s the EX!
Big Pharma must be making out like bandits.. wait.. they are bandits.
Good one, Fred! Being a nurse working in one of Big Pharma’s atm machines (aka UCSF), I couldn’t agree more…:joe:
Tis moi – good evening, Travis! :knit:
Druid, I don’t own a country cd, until now. Although, I like Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings because they are originals and songwriters. But, I just heard the clip “Not Ready To Make Nice” performed by the Dixie Chicks on Letterman and it made me want to stand up and shout. Theye are songwriters, too, I believe. So, I ordered two of their CD’s. They are speaking out just like Jean Rohe of the New School and Stephen Colbert, so I wanted to support them.
FK, thanks for checking in.
No more hiking for a while, ok? 😯
I’m never up this late anymore, this is rare for me. Since Malloy isn’t on the stream or the San Francisco station, I thought I’d try falling asleep to the L.A. stream of Marc, but no dice! The stream from there is dead, on my computer at least. 🙁
Is anyone getting the L.A. stream yet, is Marc on, am I missing it??? Stop me from hyperventilating when I’m trying to go to sleep, pleeez :billcat::jason:
:rant1:Rassafrassarowrowrowrow:rant1:goddangit, where the f is the stream????:rant1:No Malloy, no Marc. I can’t listen to any more of Eric Alterman reading The Bush Book, his voice just drones.
Hoo boy, 2 users listed here, that means it’s just me and someone else who’s probably about to sign off.
:oops:Stay cool. Every thing is going to be OK. If you need a bag to hyperventilate in, I have one since I just finished:bong: Just kidding.:paranoid:
Hey, I haven’t tried the stream tonight though, so I dunno about that. But I thought I’d throw down a response before I left. Alright, cool. Later.
Alright, I’m gonna check the other blog, then. G’night.
Stream is up!
Marc just finished up an interview with the Saving General Washington guy, who said the Christian Right of the 18th Century savaged the constitution and considered it godless! Oy!

jeez…I’ve got to unlearn waking up at 3 AM… good morning/night/whatever Druid (and anyone else) :omg:
Hey, what’s up?
Fine! Whatever. 😕
hey Travis :peace:
awake but rather slow 🙁
Oh, hey, that’s cool. I have to take my dog out for sec. So, yeah…
What happened to post #176:?:
I don’t know, trying to figure that one out… so I reposted it as 177 (shrugs)
I noticed that this blog eats words…and posts sometimes :omg:
Are you makin’ that up? I think you put down a mean smiley and erased it before anyone noticed:paranoid:I dunno
Anyway, check it!
No. I know what it is I did. I tried to make an arrow pointing to myself (a carat and a line after it) with the message “awake but slow.” and this blog did not like that configuration for some reason and eliminated my post. 🙁
looking at your link now
n 2003 AT&T built “secret rooms” hidden deep in the bowels of its central offices in various cities, housing computer gear for a government spy operation which taps into the company’s popular WorldNet service and the entire internet. These installations enable the government to look at every individual message on the internet and analyze exactly what people are doing
Man, is this creeeepy if it’s true! I always picture these operations as WANTING to do stuff like this but not competent enough to pull it off…so I’m wrong? Would like to hear more comments on this topic
:doh:My head is not doing so well, so I’m going to hit it. Later, Susan.:peace:
AT&T is now :fu:, Susan Joy — hmmm a secret room grrrr:growl:
