Ah, another weekend over. Time to get back to calling and writing AAR to get the Marc Maron Show syndicated, on satellite radio, and on the air in at least the top 76 US radio markets (you win a prize if you can guess which one is #76). It’s also time to work on getting another week over with. It’s the triple H’s here all week – hot, hazy, and humid. Oy.
If you happen to be lurking here from Air America, wondering why it would be a good idea to get Marc syndicated, here’s a list of where visitors to our little, unofficial, and totally unaffiliated-with-AAR website have come from in six months it’s been here:
(you’ll have to scroll down a bit, because there’s almost 300 freakin’ regions around the world where our posters and lurkers come from) . And if you haven’t seen the map of where people who signed the “Keep Marc” petition (that was so rudely ignored) came from, you might want to have a look here (keep in mind, that’s not a flag for every signature – just one for every town that had at least one signature, and only the ones who indicated a location). AAR blew it bigtime with Morning Sedition. Let’s not keep blowing, huh?
Happy Monday everybody.

NORWAY will begin construction today of a “doomsday vault”, a vast top-security seed bank in a mountain near the North Pole to ensure food supplies in the event of environmental catastrophe or nuclear war.
Built with Fort Knox-type security, the $US3 million ($4.1 million) depository will preserve around two million seeds representing all known varieties of the world’s crops at sub-zero temperatures.
“This facility will provide a practical means to re-establish crops obliterated by major disasters,” Cary Fowler, executive secretary of the Global Crop Diversity Trust, said in a statement.

The vault will be built deep in permafrost in the side of a sandstone mountain on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen, 1000km from the North Pole.

NEW YORK The Washington Post has obtained a cable, marked “sensitive,” that it says show that just before President Bush left on a surprise trip last Monday to the Green Zone in Baghdad for an upbeat assessment of the situation there, “the U.S. Embassy in Iraq painted a starkly different portrait of increasing danger and hardship faced by its Iraqi employees.”
This cable outlines, the Post reported Sunday, “the daily-worsening conditions for those who live outside the heavily guarded international zone: harassment, threats and the employees’ constant fears that their neighbors will discover they work for the U.S. government

re: Number 6 – Why do I think this agricultural seed preserve should be on another planet and not anywhere on Earth? Ok, maybe I read a lot of Isaac Asimov – he had a scenario where the Earth was wasted by environmental disaster. Much of Asimov’s works (Foundation, Robot series) talks about replanting human culture elsewhere. But is it really so farfetched? After seeing Al Gore’s movie, and after seeing the extent of damage being done to the planet in general, who knows? Guess I’m less afraid of what the neocons call “terrorists” and nuclear war and more concerned about terrorism by governments who ignore global warming, etc.
But seriously, if the Earth is really going to be wasted, why would the North Pole be safe?
Hey, I’m also pretty concerned about saving books and other media. There’s a concerted and overt (along with the usual sneaky subversive efforts) to rid our culture of great and important things. Where is there a vault to save great books? Now we’re talking Ray Bradbury’s “Farenheit 451.” I had a dream about hiding music in spare room and stuffing the closets full of it. We do live in a science fiction world. So many of the predictions made by some of those authors have come true, and sci fi books are often among the first in popular culture talk about cutting edge social and political ideas first – not just just new scientific ideas as some people think.
I don’t think the space program is going to get enough funding to put important things (like seeds for crops) out in space, and if they do fund a program, it will be sponsored by our government, so will not be seeds but weapons to fights with or things THEY consider important. Neocon “seeds” for future conservative civilization.
The only way what is really important (and the Norweigians apparantly know) is going to be sent into space is if somebody other than our government sends it out there.

Fred, that’s interesting (# 26) and I do think it’s because Bush’s ratings are just really low and the business community knows where it’s at right now. Last Friday, June 17, was not a good day for the Al Franken radio show. Al was “down,” sounding like he was on the verge of tears, not such a good disposition for a comic. It seems his listeners had let loose on him when he proclaimed that he “agreed with Bush” on the question of withdrawal from Iraq. That is, Franken does not support the Murtha proposal to depart posthaste and call it “redeployment”; in fact Franken does not support any timetable for withdrawal at all. The emails and phone calls apparently poured in after this most explicit declaration yet of his long-held position. Here is the email I sent after hearing him say, in the course of declaring himself a disciple of Bush, that his radio program was the site of genuine “debate” about what to do in Iraq:

Hey! So I called AAR headquarters in NY and found out the new acting CEO’s name is Jim Wiggett. Maybe you guys knew that already but I didn’t. And I talked to Tamara Karcev, in charge of affiliates, for a long time. She was very nice and told me that, basically the hold up with syndicating Marcs’ show is at the executive level and that the issues are technical and working out times with affiliates and that they are in the process of working those out. She is aware of the demand for the show and seemed behind the show and liked Marc. I also asked her about what was happening with the station there in NY and she said that as far as she knew, negotiations were going fine. I talked to her a bit about Phoenix’s recent change of ownership and she said she knew about that and was involved with it. I told her that I was very happy with the new AAR here and I really enjoyed the mixture of national and local content and that the strategery that NovaM has employed of buying small and medium sized stations was a good one IMHO. I also told her about our promo spots that are truthfull, informative and funny with the sarcastic guy. She said she wasn’t aware of them and that she would have to listen to them and that it sounded like a good idea. So maybe we won’t have to put up with that friggin muzac for much longer.
Fred, thanks for that counterpunch link. I used to think Al was a liberal before I heard him on the radio. But, this idea of supporting Bush against Murtha is awful, but I guess not that surprising. After all, he said he believed Colin Powell when he testified about WMD. Is he dumb underneath all that Harvard education? Sounds like he wants to be known as Lieberman II. Someone should ask him if he supports Lieberman over Ned Lamont.
Thanks Krista. Wow, you really got a lot of good information.
Go Kristapea
Wow, a lot to absorb here. Krista, thanks so much for doing the phone work here. Hope the “negotiations are going fine” (re: finding a new NY station for AAR) means there will still be a NY affiliate, but we’ll see. The Al Franken thing surprises me, to say the least. I haven’t been listening to him too much in the past week, so this whole thing is completely news to me. I’m kind of stunned, actually.
I haven’t listened to Franken enough for that to have been on my radar. I wonder how that argument goes down in Frankens mind. I don’t understand how anyone like Franken or anyone else can think our presence will do any good at this point, using the information that he himself has reported on.
If you didn’t know Franken was staunch DNC from the get-go, then I could see why you might be surprised. But Murtha, Wesley Clark, and that dream team, is a lame substitute. The war (occupation) is horrible, granted, but it’s also a symptom of a systemic problem – IT’S THE SYSTEM folks! :fist:

Hey, did I miss some petition? I barely ever get to the blog anymore, work interferes, and by the end of my workday you’re all gone; and I never get to listen to Marc anymore, I’m falling asleep by the time he comes on in L.A., and I will not, repeat will not pay AAR 1 solid cent. The whole name Air America, pisses me off – naming itself after the CIA’s secret airline. Yeah, I’m in a fightin’ mood this morning. I got to be a fly on the wall of the KPFA Local Station Board meeting two days ago, supporting my labor collective friends who’ve been banned by the creeping (and creepy) NPR crowd that’s taken over the station. 😡
I see Wikipedia lists AAR as “left, liberal and progressive”. F’in joke, that! Even Malloy and yes, even Marc, the two best, are no radicals. They’re good critics of what’s wrong, and I know they give voice to the righteous anger and frustration we all feel. But it’s not enough. But even Mike, after all his ranting against the Dems, still boosts them! What is wrong with these people?? Stop looking to the Dems, for chrissake! No alternative? Start looking for how to build alternative parties! Green is a lame start, but better than nothing. Peace and Freedom Party is where it’s at form, but it’s got a long way to go too. And electoral politics as an arena is only part of the problem/solution anyway. Ok, general strike – that’s what we need! :fist:
but can we NOT send Rethug seeds & spores pretty please? 😀
KP – dog groomers will “express” them for you and usually cheaper than a Vet, if that helps. Just had my SouSou to the Vet for a recheck of her thyroid. She’s lost 2 pounds in one month. The Vet wasn’t impressed until I reminded him that she is a SHE, Spayed & at least moving in the right direction. He reluctantly concurred. (Talk about a buzz kill, man.)
Al has been on the fence regarding leaving Iraq, but TODAY he finally said maybe we should. Al is a careful fellow [to put it nicely]. I also heard Christy Havey of Center for American Progress say that under Clinton in 1999, 419 (or was it 417?) corporations were fined for violating immigration laws. In 2004, 3 corporations were fined. HUH?
In political terms the blogosphere is like white noise, insistent and meaningless, like the wash of Pacific surf I can hear most days. But MoveOn.Org and Daily Kos have been hailed as the emergent form of modern politics, the target of excited articles in the New York Review of Books.
Beyond raising money swiftly handed over to the gratified veterans of the election industry both MoveOn and Daily Kos have had zero political effect, except as a demobilizing force.
The effect on writers is horrifying. Talented people feel they have produce 400 words of commentary every day and you can see the lethal consequences on their minds and style, both of which turn rapidly to slush. They glance at the New York Times and rush to their laptops to rewrite what they just read. Hawsers to reality soon fray and they float off , drifting zeppelins of inanity.

How many thought that when he used the term “fat backside” that Murtha was thinking about Russert, not Rove?
What’s with all these ‘fatty fat fat’ jokes about Rove all of a sudden? He’s not evil because he has a fat ass, or is porcine-faced – he’s evil because he’s evil, and a freudian delight too, by the way. Murtha, who i like, actually does have a porcine face. Not his fault.

America´s Foreclosure capital: Heartbreak along Mockingbird Lane
“In April, Colorado had one of every 494 households in some stage of foreclosure”
“Adams County…has the worst foreclosure rate in a state with the worst foreclosure rate in the nation.”
“Throughout Adams County, foreclosures have clustered at the low end of the market, where young couples, working-class wage-earners and people with shaky credit hunt for homes of their own.”
“Ernesto Rodriguez, who lost the house at 722 Mockingbird Lane, said he simply couldn’t keep up with $1,400-a-month payments. He realized, too late, what a high price he paid: $161,900 for a house auctioned at $130,000 and later sold for $145,000.”
————-
Just think, his house was foreclosed, sold and he still owes $15,000!!!
Adams County, my county, is now seeing its library system fall apart. They just announced that they will be closing one branch, which is the first time this has happened in CO without replacement or consolidation in 40 years. Basically, Adams County is still suffering from the Republican recession.
Now think of Iraq. We´re spending $5 billion and loosing around 30 soldiers every month. By any measure, America is doing poorly. People say Bush and Rove don´t know what´s going on in Iraq. I am not surprised because they sure as hell don´t know what´s going on in America.

That’s a strange figure about foreclosure in Colorado. I lived there briefly in the ’80’s, when collapsing oil prices caused a local recession and high unemployment. Real property values fell too.
If everything is getting foreclosed on when oil company profits are setting records and oil is more than $70 a barrel, look out.

WP: White Gentrification Hits Northwest
Seattle, Portland losing historically black neighborhoods
By Blaine Harden
The Washington Post
PORTLAND, Ore. – Already the whitest major city in America, Portland is rapidly becoming even whiter at its core.
…
About 150 miles north in Seattle, the nation’s second-whitest major city, the same process of downtown demographic bleaching is accelerating for the same reasons.
An invasion of young, well-educated and mostly white newcomers is buying up and remaking Seattle’s Central District, the birthplace of Jimi Hendrix and the once-bluesy home of the young Ray Charles. What had been the largest black-majority community in the Pacific Northwest has become majority white.
“I am concerned and I am frustrated because I don’t know what the alternatives are,” said Norman Rice, who in the 1990s was Seattle’s first and only black mayor. “It clearly isn’t racist; it’s economics. The real question you have to ask yourself is: Is this good or bad?”

Denver used to have a very diversified economy made up of the government , banking, oil related companies, defense contractors, high tech, agriculture, construction, and thousands of small businesses that fed off of each other, the high tech companies and the defense contractors. The big box stores have killed off a lot of the merchants, the defense contractors don’t farm out work, the high tech companies are abandoning ship or are being bought out and consolidating staffs, the oil business was mostly exploration related and the oil companies no longer do that, The banks made money off of lines of credit to the medium and small scale businesses and they are now few and far between, construction is mostly non union hence lower wages, and agriculture is becoming harder because of lack of water for irrigation.
An economy that should have been diverse enough to not self destruct… is self destructing and if we allow the thugs to continue in power for even another two years it may blow up and sink and then the saying will be “will the last person out of Northern Colorado please turn off the lights”.:40: 🙁

Re:69.
Not news. This gentrification has been going on for a relatively long time in Portland and Seattle (and many similar places). It is a result of the real estate racket being a huge donor to both political parties–especially the Democrats. Here is a research project: What happened when the Portland City Council tried to pass legislation a few years ago, that would require property owners to give the city first option in buying Section 8 housing, when the owners decided to put the property on the market? (Hint: Schnitzer Family. The prominent liberal family. What role did they play?)
One rather strange thing in the Denver economy is the proliferation of high end housing. No one can really figure out where these people with all this money come from. The thought is that they have traditionally been people from the west coast who sold their property and moved here and have used the sometimes millions of dollars in equity to purchase an up scale house at a tenth of the Calif price and then are living off the investment interest from their capital gains. These people comprise the states rethug base and are not interested in schools, roads, higher education, or anything else that might reduce their income.
As a friend of mine said they can live that way but the county recorders office has records on where they live… :fire::eek::yuck::growl::hubba:
They also tend to live up in the pines some palce and mother nature has been tending to take care of them for us :growl::growl:
The war grinds on, but the pwog Democrats prefer to talk about other matters, such as the fact that Rove is not going to be indicted. Thank God. the left will have to talk about something else for a change. As a worthy hobby horse for the left, the whole Plame scandal has never made any sense. What was it all about in the first analysis? Outing a CIA employee. What’s wrong with that? Many years ago a man came into the offices of the New Left Review in London where I was manning the portcullis at the time and said his name was Philip Agee and he wanted to write a book about the CIA. Did we call for a special prosecutor to have this fellow hauled over the coals? No we did not.
ALEX COCKBURN
You monkeywrenching guerilla warrior, fred. I’ll bet a lot of the high-end carpetbaggers come from Texas, too. That’s who my friend from Colorado used to complain about in the early 1990s. “Texans!” Or have the Texans assimilated? Anyway, the real question should be, why did the local economy collapse? not the fact that rich bastards are looking for a new, cheaper place to settle.
The towns that comprise the Denver burbs in many cases date back into the late 1800’s. They have a lot of inner city property where the older people and the poor traditionally lived but in order to increase their tax base and to look more burb like they are “redeveloping” a lot of the older parts of the towns. The resulting dislocation of the older people and the poor people can not be helping the current problems we are having. Colorado hasn’t traditionally had a lot of ghetto like areas in its cities unless Salves, and Poles and Greeks can be thought of that way.
Texans typically came to Colorado on vacation.. So did the rich Indians from Oklahoma.(in the 1920’s). The weather makes it uninhabitable for most Texans in the winter time. I think the Texans now mostly go on Caribbean cruises or to Mexico on vacation..:?::?::doh::fustrate:
Who built all of the ski resorts?
Who built the crackerboxes overlooking…
Oh. So the Texans were not Damn Yankees.
Re: 79
That is a good description of gentrification. Make the older areas of the city attractive to the yuppies.
:fu: lurkers!
The original ski areas were built by people from the east,.A lot of them were in the army’s mountain division which was trained outside of Leadville ( which is at 10,000 feet). They learned how to ski during their training and came back after the war and built the first ski areas. Anschutz and Coors also built some. Aspen was built by mountain division people and the Aspen ski corp was owned by Pitkin county for a while.. Most new investment might be from Texas and big corporations but the original developers were not natives but were also not rich people either.

i do the anal expression myself

So THAT’S what that look on Cheney’s face is called!
:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:
It was a dirty job, but someone had to do it.
Cheney probably “does it” with cattle..Unless one of his aids holds up the dog for him.. he’s an old fogey you know..
The CyberCast News Service guy which Hartman has on almost every day is now also a regular occurrence on Shultz’s show so is he a “set up conservative” ??
The US foreign policy over the last 30 years was actually the “cause” of 911 so should be bomb ourselves.. ?? lets start a “citizens” committee to do just that.. ..:hubba::hubba:
AND Susan seems to be going Bananas :banana:
Ugh, I guess I will have to learn how to express my dogs anus. :yuck: I can get away with saying that because I don’t have a penis and don’t belong to a gender who is notorious for buggering 4-legged warm blooded mammals.:sheep::sheep:
Tyger Thom is doing apologetics work for the democrats on the air.
Are you bragging that the Democrats “do not cut and run”? Republicans are just being hypocrites. Both are parties of war.
War, occupation, it all sounds bad to me. I don’t understand the framing war in this particular case. We’re supposed to want them to call it an occupation, that will work in our favor somehow?
G’Day to All,
:tongue:I am only about a third of the way through this horribly informative with a “twist” of humour MUST READ “blog”. and I have to work :omg:

Isn’t the two-party system wonderful? Problems with framing the debate stem from the fact that the limits of the debate are so narrow.

The Democrats are the party of war; as are the Republicans. The isolationist strain is DEAD!
Hey! Anybody watching Randy Johnson pitch on ESPN?
well I think they’re wasting their time deciding what to call this, and that it’s not going to make a difference. End the fucking WAR, end the OCCUPATION, whatever you choose to say. And nobody from either party wants to do it.
Damn! The pitcher for the Phillies is pretty good, himself.
No the liberals are not, O’Reilley. They are strengthening it. Just ask Tyger Thom his position on immigration.

Why are so many Philly fans rooting for a Yankee homerun? Damn! I initially thought that Johnson had served one up.
Nicki, these pictures are amazing
What pictures? I still don’t know how to use a digital camera.
drawings!
Oh. Those sketches. I need to paint. I haven’t picked up a brush since my last (group) show about six months ago.
Anything else come with it?
hmm, ok. You didn’t like them much I guess? I do…
I would not have sent them….you did not see the preliminary sketches.:omg:
yep, #10 NW
Right temporal lobe? You sound like a Dealey Plaza nut.
So, which ones do you have? 5, …10-15?
I LOVE them! But if you didn’t, why did you send them, that’s what I don’t get
Hey, Tyger Thom. Didn’t Carl Sagan write a book about
“Broca’s Brain”?
Read #109.:omg:

A SYDNEY man, Faheem Khalid Lodhi, has become the first person to be convicted of planning a terrorist act on Australian soil.
Lodhi, 36, a Pakistani-born Australian citizen, faces a possible life sentence after a jury accepted prosecution arguments that he had planned a bombing attack in the cause of jihad.

Hey guys…Gore is about to be on Kieth Olberman….
Of course that mean that those of us who are watching Hell’s Kitchen on Fox will have to tear away from chef Gordon and his sadistic rantings….
( I somehow think that maybe Marc would like this show)
A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do….
All this and anal glands too! The line forms to the right!
12 users online!:omg:
dog just ripped up a bag of cotton balls all over the living room, this is going to be a good day i can tell. wsh i could get olberman on the tv machine, but sadly no
Al Gore says he has no plans on running for president…
ego- I was just picking up the fluffy guts of one of the destroyed squeaky babies that die daily around here…
Do you ever stuff a kong with treats and peanut butter and freeze it? They want to rip the guts out of something and the kong thing works pretty well in that satisfaction of gutting an animal thats imprinted on their DNA….
They still will rip up the cotton and unstring the yarn, but maybe less as time goes on if they can hope for a frozen kong from time to time.
australia does get the daily show starting july 3rd though!
He always says that Suz….he has no reason to throw his hat in till he gets a good idea of whats going on….He wont say definitely that if drafted he wouldnt do it
Interesting…I guess that’s how politics works. So I guess we won’t know until later in the race
Anybody out there live on Intervale?
Yay ego-will you also get Colbert?…those are probably the best 2 shows on TV…next to Hell’s Kitchen and Big Brother, of course 😆
melina, yep, patsy has many kongs, am just dealing with the crazy teenage dog thing, she’s pushing her limits. mostly a good dog, just sometimes….
get hells kitchen already! have requested colbet repor(t) but happy wih daily show, have been bothering the comedy channel here about it for 3 years!
I’m back. Good luck with the doggie’s tush. I’ll never think of Cheney’s face quite the same again (not that I was too fond of it before now, but now I’ve got a more pictaresque vision :rofl2:) Reminds me of what my ex calls politicians and their enablers: lying sack of shit. Anyway, friends don’t let friends vote Dem (or Repub.).
Time for me to head home, g’night, all :knit:
Janice
well, best show, i dunno, you all don’t get glass house, a very funny weekly, will see if i can find a link
Oh…I havent heard of that but I love the name!!
Melina, I think I forgot:
:banana:Yea Lola with Lola-Cam Yea:banana:
:rofl2::wink::rofl2:
Yes…lola at the carnival. I was wishing I was shorter because at 5’9″ its hard to get low enough to really do a Lola’s eye view…..
Ive got a couple of more ideas for little films…maybe will do some in the city at the origami convention this weekend….no dogs or birds though…
damn it i barely have a connection but half life 2 is working now so……. anyway thom hartman is growing on me!
:fu:Hartmann!
no more broadband links for the glass house, sadly abc here. like pbs there, is being overrun with fiscal conservatives. sigh. so melina why is my mastif scared to death of little dogs? she drops to the ground and shakes when the jack russel barks at her! what to do?
she may not realize that it is a dog….have you had a chance to get her together in a quiet place with a nice small dog and let them meet slowly?
Little dogs can be very agressive…especially chihuahuas, and sweet bigger dogs can be very freaked out by that agression. I have seen my dear departed Coco take down a huge Lab that dared walk by our property just with her personality…right between the front legs barking and snarling straight up like a maniac….finally the cowed dogs back off….
But it could be anything.
Maybe a bad experience?
To lat down is to show submission…to bow is to offer play. The shaking is…I dont know…I would have to look it up.
Maybe a Rat-cam (I may try if I ever finish my projects/work):rofl2: (one of my rats is running amuck on me now) or even a Snake-cam :rofl2:
Gordan Freeman Rules!
ahh rats. had simon the rat years ago, couldn’t keep him in his cage.ran with the cats, used thier litter box & loved cheetos, he was on the huge side, good with the cuddles though

egotils, I use to say (and at times still do) RATS
but then I was given rats :rofl2: RATS :rofl2:
There were the two rats, being taken to the “pound” and luckily a homeless man told me and a few days they were mine. A few days later Dharma and Karma (my names) gave me 5 more rats. Karma just recently passed/died :( going to the Big Rat Mansion in the sky.
My cats won’t eat them since I AM WATCHING. But reading your post gives me “hope”
But then there is Danu, my darlin’ monster (huge) teenage “pup”.
Hubby is not very thrilled with the “food chain”. :rofl2:
Andy, Why do you think Freeman rules? Role play?
and didn’t you send the horribly perfect pixs re that which We Are Not Allowed To See? If you did I wrote you back yet it was during my “vampire” time (thx Kristapea:wink:) …and I am trying to find your post AGAIN (but slowly looking) 😀
