Friday, and I get to take Siggy for a walk for the first time in forever. He tells me he hasn’t been having nearly enough fun, so I guess I’d better take care of that. Sure is nice to sleep in my own bed for change. Hopefully this flooding nonsense is all over with. Anyhow, y’all have have a good Friday.

Good morning everyone. Four-day holiday weekend coming up as soon as I make it through today.
Quietgirl, here you go. :joe::joe::joe:
FUCK POMBO! STAY OUT OF THE GULF!
One Dem traitor, Allen Boyd (D-Monticello), voted in favor of the cave-in, I mean compromise. Katherine Harris, of all people, voted against it, so I guess I have to lay off her at least for today.
Both senators, Bill Nelson and Mel Martinez, are dead-set against this piece of crap passing in the Senate. Nelson is threatening to filibuster when it is introduced there. As down as I am on Nelson lately, he is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT in his position on this bill.
WE DO NOT WANT FLORIDA BEACHES SOAKED IN OIL SO THAT DENNIS HASTERT CAN GET CHAUFFERED AROUND DC IN A FUCKING SUV. Tourism makes up too much of our economy. We can’t afford this.
Jeb Bush thinks this bill is a good idea. That alone should be enough to convince you to stand against it.
Please contact your senators and convince them to keep Gulf Coast beaches clean. Thanks.
:banana::banana::banana:
It’s Friday, ya bastards! (Since Randi won’t be around to say it this afternoon.)

Hey Druid… :jesus:
Druid, glad you saw the comment for what it was. 😉
I was trying to find the GDP break down but the government presents it in such great detail no one can understand it..
Some of the things they include in consumer spending is the interest we pay on our Mortgages and credit card debt. That is like 19% of GDP..They also show some percentage of this expenditure as corporate profits as are the outrageous profits of the oil companies. They also include all federal expenditure’s which is like another 20%.
The most worrisome thing is we owe something like 37 trillion dollars on mortgages and credit card debt and this is increasing a rate of like 2 trillion dollars a year.
The balance of trade deficit ( 799 billion in 2005) is like 6% of GDP..
The methodology for making this computation is unique to the US too so we can’t really compare the US GDP numbers to those of the European nations..
Its all a lie .. A lie I say…:yuck::yuck:

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh said Friday that
Israel’s offensive in Gaza — including the kidnappings of some of his Cabinet ministers — was part of a premeditated plan to bring down the Hamas-led government. In his first public comments since the Israeli offensive started, Haniyeh said Palestinian leaders were working hard to end the standoff but implied they would not trade a captive soldier for eight Cabinet ministers and 56 other Hamas officials arrested Thursday.
Israel’s air force has struck more than 30 targets in Gaza — including the Palestinian Interior Ministry — in response to Sunday’s kidnapping of Cpl. Gilad Shalit, 19, by Hamas-linked militants. Thousands of Israeli soldiers backed by tanks also have taken up positions in southern Gaza.

Israel’s Appalling Bombing in Gaza
Starving in the Dark
By VIRGINIA TILLEY
On the excuse of rescuing one kidnapped soldier, Israeli is now bombing the Gaza Strip and is poised to re-invade. It has also arrested a third of the Palestinian parliament, wrecking even its fragile illusion of capacity and reducing the already-empty vessel of the Palestinian Authority into broken shards.
In the shambles, Palestinians may be observing one bitter pill of compensation: vicious angling by Fatah to reclaim control of Palestinian national politics and its rivalry with Hamas are now rendered obsolete. Even the dogged international community cannot maintain its dogged pretense that the PA is actually capable of any governance at all. The demise of the disastrous Oslo model, Israel’s device to ensure its final dismemberment of Palestinian land and its fatal cooptation of the Palestinian national movement, may finally be at hand. Perhaps Palestinian unity again has a chance.
But no one knows what will replace the PA. It is therefore not surprising that this transformed diplomatic landscape is absorbing the principal attention of an anxious international community.
Nevertheless, politics should not be the greatest international concern. For over in Gaza, one appalling act must now eclipse all thoughts of “road maps” or “mutual gestures”: on Wednesday, Israeli war planes repeatedly bombed and utterly demolished Gaza’s only power plant. About 700,000 of Gaza’s 1.3 million people now have no electricity, and word is that power cannot be restored for six months. ..

:tinfoil: The stock Market..
I had this conversation with one of our accounting suits today about that bump in the market that occurred yesterday and he said…He thought that the government was buying stocks to keep the market artificially inflated .. That has to be be good .. right ?? ..Yesterday they anticipated it to drop sharply on the interest rate announcement but for some reason it didn’t so you got this 200+ point rise. Isn’t it called ENRON economics when you borrow trillions from China to buy US stocks so the market stays up so the Europeans and the Chinese will continue to invest.. that worked really well for ENRON didn’ it…:eek::eek::yuck::yuck::yuck::barf:

Well a lot of Republican neighbors wore out their welcome here anyway…not because of their political affiliation per se but because they’re all bastards on the condo board… so yeah. The sign is going up, if you don’t mind…
Well Mark Miller on Shultz’s show said we should prepare to riot, burn and destroy things ( that’s not exactly what he said but…) if the election in Nov looks fishy.. I think if it gets any warmer here today the fireworks this week end will not all be at Envesco field.:40::40::40::yawn::blech:
I’m not feeling very patriotic this year for July 4th. Maybe what I need to do is redefine patriotism to create different fireworks…like the “firworks” of people taking to the street and taking this country back :fu:
That Miller sounds like a right reasonable fellow.
Is that the only kind of “fireworks” you are thinking about?
well I said take to the streets, so if you equate streets with gutter, meaning “mind is in the gutter”…

Packaging always seems to be a problem..
A Jeremiad is a long literary work, usually in prose, but sometimes in poetry, that bitterly laments the state of society and its morals in a serious tone of sustained invective, and often contains a prophecy of its coming downfall.
Those are not just any nuns..It is Hildegard and her crew.
Fred, that seems suitable for July 4th… though I have trouble handling a firecracker without panicking, so I dunno if I can help…

WASHINGTON (AP) – Republican Tom Kean Jr.’s campaign plans a “Swift Boat”-style film accusing his Democratic rival of involvement in a New Jersey mob-connected kickback scheme despite public records and statements disputing that claim.
Sen. Bob Menendez has talked about how he courageously testified against Union City, N.J., Mayor William V. Musto in a 1982 federal trial that dealt with school construction, kickbacks and the Mob.
Musto was convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison. He died in February.
Kean contends that Menendez’s portrayal of his role is inaccurate. Four former federal prosecutors who oversaw the case have said Menendez was never involved in any wrongdoing.

I’m in a quandary. I have been looking for work and being pretty open minded. I spent a day with Arizona PIRG canvassing and I could do that but it’s kind of all or nothing, fulltime. No part time. Your pay is based on the memberships you sign up so, you gotta be a good salesperson. Canvassing is between 4-9 pm every day.Worst part of the day to be outside. Then there is office stuff. I think it ends up being a pretty long day. I am unsure if I can 1. afford to do that and 2. want to do that. The issue they’re trying to get in the legislature for this fall has to do with our water supply here in Az. They want to get a law passed that makes builders prove there is enough water to sustain their developments before they start building. Plenty of people, of course, support that so it’s not a particularly controversial issue unless you knock on the door of a builder or something. I was very nervous knocking on peoples’ doors and I had a hard time memorizing the script. I am not a people person but I feel strongly about the issues. I feel terribly guilty turning down the job because of the possibility of not making enough money. I also am not sure I feel like overcoming my introvertedness. But now I feel selfish and I keep thinking about polar bears drowning and Phoenix running out of water. I NEED A LIBERAL CONFESSIONAL!:priest:
I guess I’ll go buy F.U.B.A.R.
Why is Sam so silent about the events in the Occupied Territories?
Sam either has mixed feelings about it or he was instructed not to talk about certain things….who knows. I’m not sure if these guys are free to discuss every little thing they want. Maybe I’m just too cynical
I did that kind of work for a few years. I was damn near living on the streets of Seattle; got a job working for SANE/FLEECE. I got sort of good at it; had trouble asking for big money, though. Canvassing is not for everyone.
If you seem too honest, or something, you get slammed with being self-hating or being some sort of nazi. I know: I have been active in this area for a long time.
“Be careful, Sam.
The Forward
will pull ads if you talk about Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.” Is that it? Riley reports on it. So does Laura.I was very nervous knocking on peoples’ doors and I had a hard time memorizing the script. I NEED A LIBERAL CONFESSIONAL! :priest:
Door-to-door work is difficult, unless you’re a real extrovert and/or used to this thing. On one hand you say a lot of people support this, so maybe that might make it easier, but still…it takes a certain type of personality to deal with people in that manner. Are you the type? If you’re not, don’t let it bother you…there has to be other ways for you to contribute to that particular cause.
If you decide to do it, great, if you don’t, don’t feel guilty…it’s not worth the hassle.
I think for penance you should make sure that you contribute somehow to this issue – if not through this job, through something else. Be creative!
I think I like this role 🙂
******:bow::sdavid::sdavid::sdavid::priest::jesus:
:spank: would you freakin behave, I’m not ignoring you!
Sam has been very critical in the past about Israeli policy toward the Palestinians. So, he is not shy about expressing his views. In fact there is a classic phone call episode I think that happened while he was filling in for Randi. It was a Jew from, I think, New Jersey that called and yelled at him for talking against Israel and brought up the holocaust and how he was not honoring the people that were executed. Sam was irate (not really) and was screaming at the guy. The whole thing was classic Sam and hilarious!
“Be careful, Sam. The Forward will pull ads if you talk about Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.” Is that it? Riley reports on it. So does Laura.
Comment by NickiRose — June 30, 2006 @ 6:36 pm
I hate to be Captain Obvious here, but Riley and Laura are gentiles, correct? Not intended as a slur, just an observation. Sort of the same reason you don’t hear Ted Kennedy bashing the pope.
Thanks, you guys. Now I gotta deal with my mother.
But the question remains: WHY IS SAM NOT COMMENTING ON THE SITUATION ON THE GROUND NOW! Current events are a bitch. Perhaps he could get people to work towards stopping the attack.
there are Jews who are pro Israel no matter what, and Jews who can see the whole thing clearly, but you never know who is going to be who, so I generally avoid the topic among Jews. For instance, the group of people I know are Jewish and liberal EXCEPT in regard to Israel, and they unquestioningly support Israel, so I have basically kept away from the topic with them
Sam said Janeane is serving on a Grand Jury. He kinda laughed and intimated that she is shaking things up. 😀
I don’t know why he’s not talking about it. Why don’t you call up Sam?
Well, fuck! I just got my first speeding ticket! I feel sorta dumb. but whatever, I guess. Anyway… back in Goldendale right now. What’s goin’ down, sheeple?

I feel terribly guilty turning down the job because of the possibility of not making enough money. I also am not sure I feel like overcoming my introvertedness. But now I feel selfish and I keep thinking about polar bears drowning and Phoenix running out of water. I NEED A LIBERAL CONFESSIONAL!
Comment by Kristapea — June 30, 2006 @ 6:29 pm
Krista, the animated polar bear in the movie got to me too. Poor little guy falling off the animated glacier pieces.
But try to be pragmatic. It’s tough to change the world when your main concern is where your next meal is coming from. Romanticism is great in movies and books, but not always in real life.
If you’re not comfortable knocking on doors, try doing something that better utilizes your personal talents. I suck at knocking on doors myself, but I’m much more comfortable writing, so I do that instead. Maybe you can do something with your art. No one is good at everything, but everyone is good at something. (Except Bush, who is good for nothing.)
The 40 hours a week I put in at my sorta crappy job gives me the ability to do political stuff in my spare time. Not everybody has to be a door-knocker.
I feel your pain about builders, though. It’s the same down here – contractors want to keep building housing developments, condos and strip malls but don’t give a damn about water, police, fire, schools, roads, you name it. Not to mention wetlands and the plant and animal life contained there.
You do what you can. It’s fun getting a proposed Wal-Mart shot down. 😀
I”m a self hating Jew? Did you call me that? Why?
DID you?
Western Washington State outside of the metro areas all looks like the middle of nowhere.. Except at rush hour when all the little roads fill up with cars coming out of the trees and going back into the trees. It kind of reminded me of the lemmings thing..:billcat:
Eastern Washington state is more or less the definition of the middle of nowhere.
I looked into working for NYPIRG the first time I dropped out of school. Or maybe it was the second time. Anyhow, when I found out it was door-to-door sales on a strictly commission basis, I was kinda disillusioned (I was still a kid, and hadn’t lost my illusions yet). I didn’t wanna do that any more than I wanted to sell rainbow vacuum cleaners door-to-door. So, I wound up working in a foundry for a couple of years. Hot, dirty, stinky, nasty, very physical work at long hours (4 AM to 4:30 PM M-F and 4 – noon on Saturdays), being treated like a moron. A real eye-opener for a college boy who didn’t think they were teaching him the important stuff in school, and wanting to get out into the “real world.” Best education I ever got. It was also my first taste of union activism (shop steward and finanical secretary for a steelworkers local that I’m ashamed to admit I can’t remember the local number anymore).
I Quit!
Then I’m sad
In 2004 the Moveon PAC had us going door to door passing out literature and talking to the residents about the Kerry campaign.. We have some real wing nuts in this neighborhood. I don’t think i would like to try to sell them something that costs money..:nixon::peace:
They made me go door2door selling raffle tickets for Pop Warner football when I was a kid. That was the end of my in-person sales career (though I did sell Sears Maintenance Agreements for a while as a summer job; that sucked, too).
The times I’ve taken on stuff I wasn’t particularly suited for, I’ve failed at. Maybe I’m saving everyone some trouble. BUT SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE ABOUT THE GREEDY DEVELOPERS!:knit2:
I sold candy as a kid and did alright at it. But it’s easy to sell candy as a kid. Hardly anyone turns you down.
How’s your freeway blogging coming along?
They took us into a bar after practice one day, wearing our uniforms. We sold a lot of raffle tickets to the afternoon lush crowd.
Here’s our team. First prize to anyone who can figure out which one’s me.
Haven’t done much. I had a sign over my freeway exit for Air America and it’s been there for a long time. But unfortunately, the sign that looked so huge in my li’l house is kind of hard to see. You can see what it says as you drive under it. :rofl2:I’m gonna switch it out for a sign made from a bedsheet instead. That way I can more easily and discreetely transport it. Signs stay on that over pass for a long time because there is very little foot traffic and there is a concrete wall blocking the cars driving by from seeing it.
I guess it would be a wild guess since I’ve only ever seen a pic of you feet!
I’m gonna say, you’re the kid to the left of number 4. Our left.
What, the mouth breather? Nah, not him.
Crap, I coulodn’t get FK’s copy of the show to play this morning. PJ??
I have no clue then. He just caught my eye but I think maybe because he looks like someone I know.
Oh wait, maybe you did post a picture of you and your brother once?? But i can’t visualize it.
Hey, KP, you use Yahoo messenger?
Krista: Did you ever get torrents figured out ?? Mininova doesn’t have last nights up yet but maybe in a day or two..:fustrate:
WASHINGTON, June 29 /U.S. Newswire/ — The following was issued today by U.S. Politics Today, published by the Washington, D.C.-based IPD Group:

An odd thing seems to have happened to mighty right-wing talking head media juggernaut. They are still talking, but fewer people seem to be listening — at least on the Internet.
Alexa.com — http://alexa.com — which is owned and operated by Amazon.com, tracks online usage for all Web sites, large and small. At Alexa.com, you can check a site’s activity up to the minute, or follow its trail back for many years.
At U.S. Politics Today, we thought it might be interesting to see how the right-wing media machine was doing. Not well, it turns out.

I never figured out the torrent. I got windows to work and gave up on it.
LIVERMORE, Calif. (AP) — The scientists who crack open the nation’s nuclear weapons for a living are never quite sure what they will find inside.
Many of the warheads were designed and built 40 years ago, and their plutonium and other components are slowly breaking down in ways that researchers do not fully understand. With no new bombs in production, the government spends billions of dollars each year tending to its aging stockpile.

This gives one a queasy feeling considering a lot of Russia’s nuclear stockpile is less than 10 years old.. This is the excuse for making new ones but until they actually make any ..:eek::rant1:
Krista- check out Market America. Im not doing it (yet) but their vitamins are great and it seems like people are making some money there…its not a pyramid thing as far as I can tell but it is multilevel marketing. You just dont totally rely on who is below you to keep going because the profits go upwards, downwards, and sideways within the company. Its very interesting and seems sorta good if you like whatever product you choose…they have many different types and they dont all involve in person sales. Let me know if you want to hook up with it, even as a side thing because Im going to try it.
Wanwexia…happy birthday!!!
Kat….UCSC…eeekkkk!
Suz- Nicki calls us all names all the time! And if you call him on it he retreats or posts alot of articles.
Havent you noticed?….
Also, I have 2 big Impeach Bush signs on my big driveway…almost gave gramdpa a heart attack. hes so afraid right now.
I have only 1 or 2 semi neocon people as “friends”, but its more in passing and they are only the way they are because they are too lazy to change the channel from FAUX…When you ask them if they want the constitution changed they say, No of course not…if you ask them about Iraq, they were just scared because Faux told them to be….its laziness.
The funny thing is that, I was talking to a psychiatrist today who knows me well and we were joking about adolescent kids, as Will was watching us through a window in the waiting room and compulsively trying to train his heavily gelled growing out hair into a point over one eye (and he wants to dye it black…to which I say NO!)…and the Dr said that things will be rocky for the next few years and then Will will suddenly go straight and date a Republican, knowing that there is hardly a way to get to me, and hes too chicken to get pierced…..heh heh…
Will is in such a good mood today. He has been laughing all day and telling jokes.
It all started when he found out that one of the tests that he has to take for the school board is called the Woodcock Johnson.
I guess boys see alot of humor in that…even professional psycs…as the Dr told me….girls dont usually get it until its pointed out. At least I didnt get it…and Ive been dealing with educational and psychological testing for years. damn!
PJ, are you the third from the left sitting on the ground in between 2 black kids?
Oh the end of the story about Will dating a republican was that I said that I’d prefer him be a serial killer to dating a republican and the Dr said that he was gonna date Anne Coulter’s daughter…and I said, well, if Anne Coulter is the father or mother, whatever, but if that happens I would use it as an opportunity to get close to the subhuman old Anne and strangle her!
Kat- youve posted 51 times more than me while I was away???? I think that if I broke my long posts up I would be on top!…and if the counter disregarded whole articles from truthout Nicki would be way way down….
Yeah, and what about posts that are only emoticons??
Im watching Keith about Bush and the Jap PM at Graceland…this is so sick, but then I guess that if this had to be done it might as well have been done with Bush as opposed to any other president who might want to keep some sorta statesman like demeanor.
“Presidents come and go…Elvis is forever…” Ha!!
Oh so true…I seldom use emoticons at all but I like them….just not posts that are only emoticons.
I think that parts of articles should be posted along with a continuation link and perhaps a little something about what the person thinks about it or why they posted it.
Krista, did you get the show from last nite?
Do you have the AOL instant messenger?
I’ll see how you do with the vitamins, Melina. 😉 Lemme know how rich you get.
I almost sold the HGH stuff but as I was taking it I noticed my moles got tingly/itchy. I got nervous about that and stopped taking it.
Nope, not me.
If I recall correctly, they had to put weights in behind his knee pads so he could make the weight limit.
Holy Sh*t – Rawstory has a link to a story that Israel is about to murder the palestinian PM unless they get their soldier back.
I’m starting to believe in the Rapture. This is about as bad as it gets.
Well, that’s great. It would be nice if the US would denounce that, and say it’s unacceptable to kill foreign heads of state, but I reckon that would never happen. Hell, we didn’t even get mad over the USS Liberty.
Are you #79, PJ?
Nope, not 79.
Hey Gang. Wow, major blogging today!
Hey Andy, wussup?
Getting ready to do storm cleanup in the back yard. You’re home today?
Yep, back home for a few days. Managed to avoid getting caught in any major storms.
Excellent!
We got some stormage going on right now! Woo Hoo! But so far not so much rain. Just a lot of dust and wind.
Okay PJ, another guess, are you to the left of #80? I keep thinking your dark haired.
Hello seditionists and nervous yet colorful little icons.
The beyond-parody radio site RadioEqualizer.com (Sam Seder’s nemesis) has been blowing gaskets recently. The guy who runs the blog is orgiastically explaining what is going on at AAR. He claims that Sam Seder is soon leaving.
I post on the comments there because they have the most amusingly trained little wingnuts. Seder even posts there occasionally because he enjoys antagonizing the main blogger, who evidently can’t get a job in radio.
:cake: REPORT:cake:
:cake:was delicious/ Guests numerous including gypsy and sbluefox.
Thank you all for the good wishes
So, he doesn’t really say how he got the info about Majority Report.
Well Gang the KTLK stream seems to be down again. 😡
I* concur, the stream is not working.
Basketball season is over, isn’t it? So, we shouldn’t be having a problem.
Their server must be down. This happened a couple of days ago too.
Hey Buffering!
Stream is now running!!
I got it!
Time to set the recorder and go to bed. ‘Night Krista,
yay, stream
They were right about Danny Goldberg leaving, so this information about Seder leaving is disturbing. Although, when Sam was on Franken’s show to sell his book, Al kept saying that Sam was the future of AAR. I hope Seder stays. I enjoy him. And, he is a good guy without a huge ego with a good grasp of the issues.
Wanwenxia!
happy official birthday:cake:
Thanks for inviting us- I never did find gypsy.
Did find the bookstore however…It was a ways up KW past the community college.
Traffic was sumthin’ else- I think I saw Travis getting pulled over…:omg:

Petition
As activists, intellectuals, and artists we wish to express the following:
We are deeply concerned about the escalation of intimidation by the Mexican government—as well as a systematic pattern of serious human rights violations perpetrated by the administration of Vicente Fox, in collaboration with the PRI—against the legitimate resistance and struggles of the Mexican people.
More than a month after the police incursion in the town of San Salvador Atenco, Estado de Mexico, it has become public knowledge that two young men were assassinated by police gunfire; houses were raided, searched, and property destroyed. Two hundred people were detained without a warrant and many of them were brutally beaten and tortured. Five foreigners were physically abused and illegally deported from the country. And most disturbing, the majority of the forty-seven female detainees were victims of sexual aggression, abuse, and rape.
These actions appear to be part of a recurrent pattern in Mexican history that reveals the authoritarian and violent face of the Mexican State in the last decades: like the massacres of October 2, 1968, June 10, 1971, and December 22, 1997. The recent atrocities in Atenco are a reminder that repression and brutality are endemic to the Mexican government, allowing the powerful interests that rule the country to maintain their hold on power while also remaining unaccountable and seemingly exempt from the grievous violations of human rights that continue to take place.
Because little has been done to investigate and punish those responsible for the serious violations of human rights that took place in Atenco, we support the calls for an immediate, full and impartial investigation from international organizations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the International Civil Commission for the Observation of Human Rights.
We have witnessed over the last ten years the growth of a vital, progressive, inclusive, peaceful, and imaginative grass roots movement, inspired by the struggle and resistance of the Zapatistas. We wish to express our solidarity with the indigenous people, campesinos, workers, women, and civilian organizations that have been the targets of government-sponsored abuses.
We support the deep need for a change in Mexico—the history of Mexico as an independent republic deserves to flourish in its search for justice, democracy and equality for its citizens. The change also needs to include a break from neoliberal structural reforms and independence from the United States’ designs for imperial hegemony in the hemisphere. We will be watching that the elections are conducted in a peaceful and just manner: the popular vote must be respected. And above all, the activist grass-roots movements, who are independent of the electoral process, must be protected against the abuses of power by the Mexican government, so that they do not become targets of repression for the creation of social instability and fear.
