Well, whoopdie doo, another Saturday. Not much sleep last night, sine the goddamn a/c appears not to be working here, and while it’s not 100 degrees here, it’s humid and never seems to get below about 75 degrees. Haven’t check to see if Israel launched its major invasion of Lebanon last night, but since there’s nothing to stop them (certainly not the US, compassion ,or common decency), I suppose they probably did. So, I guess it’s time for coffee, and then see what’s going on in the world. They’re copying the Edinburgh Fringe Festival here in DC this weekend, so maybe I’ll go to that (though I’d rather be at the NY State Blues Festival – already too late for the Empire Brew Fest).
Anyhow, enjoy your Saturday.
Good morning/evening, Seditionists!
Happy feast of Mary Magdalene to the “DaVinci Code” followers.

There is a UN security council debate on C-span.. I can’t ell if its live.. The rest of the world wants Israel and the US lynched, taken out and shot, sent to GTMO ( you get the tone of the comments) at daybreak..
What news will we get, fred? Just that some people are planning to kill other other people. And other people are already killing others. :smack:

U.S. Speeds Up Bomb Delivery for the Israelis
By DAVID S. CLOUD and HELENE COOPER
Published: July 22, 2006
WASHINGTON, July 21 — The Bush administration is rushing a delivery of precision-guided bombs to Israel, which requested the expedited shipment last week after beginning its air campaign against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, American officials said Friday.
The decision to quickly ship the weapons to Israel was made with relatively little debate within the Bush administration, the officials said. Its disclosure threatens to anger Arab governments and others because of the appearance that the United States is actively aiding the Israeli bombing campaign in a way that could be compared to Iran’s efforts to arm and resupply Hezbollah.
The munitions that the United States is sending to Israel are part of a multimillion-dollar arms sale package approved last year that Israel is able to draw on as needed, the officials said. But Israel’s request for expedited delivery of the satellite and laser-guided bombs was described as unusual by some military officers, and as an indication that Israel still had a long list of targets in Lebanon to strike.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Friday that she would head to Israel on Sunday at the beginning of a round of Middle Eastern diplomacy. The original plan was to include a stop to Cairo in her travels, but she did not announce any stops in Arab capitals

Protesters Take Over Oaxaca, Mexico
July 21, 2006, 1:28 PM EDT
OAXACA, Mexico — Protesters have taken over the center of folkloric Oaxaca, making tourists show identification at makeshift checkpoints, smashing the windows of quaint hotels and spray-painting revolutionary slogans. Police are nowhere in sight.
It’s not the tranquil cultural gem beloved by tourists from the United States and Europe. A month of protests to try to oust the governor have forced authorities to cancel many events, including the Guelaguetza dance festival.
Most tourists are staying away, costing the city millions of dollars.
The protests follow other eruptions of civil unrest and class conflict that have plagued President Vicente Fox as his term winds to a close

From the WSJ
1:15 a.m.: Israeli aircraft and artillery pounded southern Lebanon early Saturday, apparently focusing on sectors across the border from Israel has massed tanks and troops ahead of a limited ground operation, the Associated Press reported. Roads and villages near the Blue Line defining the border between Israel and Lebanon were bombed through the night, witnesses said.

Some other articles seem to indicate “someone” had a long conference call with Israel about the implications of doing this. ( insert picture of a large pile of bear dodo on top of Israel here)
The UN meeting seems to be from yesterday.. I really didn’t think they would get up before 10 am on a Saturday.:shock::rant1:
King (Kong) Mighty M O N K E Y,
Your name, cool 8). Now the question is your real name or King Kong… It looked like two similar symbols. Please you do not have to give name, just curious regarding symbols. In Tibetan, I was able to read and chant the prayers, read a bit more, and started to decipher the sanscrit.
Druid, when I was in Bhutan, often the Bhuddist books had Chinese characters on the covers, but sanscit on the inside.
So cool that you can read some. :yuck: I’m green with envy (not sick)

Working overtime today. WAAAAAAAYYY too early to be up on a Saturday.
I know there’s a yawn emoticon here somewhere, but I’m too sleepy to find it.

Israel set war plan more than a year ago
Strategy was put in motion as Hezbollah began increasing its military strength
Matthew Kalman, Chronicle Foreign Service
Friday, July 21, 2006
(07-21) 04:00 PDT Jerusalem — Israel’s military response by air, land and sea to what it considered a provocation last week by Hezbollah militants is unfolding according to a plan finalized more than a year ago.
In the years since Israel ended its military occupation of southern Lebanon, it watched warily as Hezbollah built up its military presence in the region. When Hezbollah militants kidnapped two Israeli soldiers last week, the Israeli military was ready to react almost instantly.
“Of all of Israel’s wars since 1948, this was the one for which Israel was most prepared,” said Gerald Steinberg, professor of political science at Bar-Ilan University. “In a sense, the preparation began in May 2000, immediately after the Israeli withdrawal, when it became clear the international community was not going to prevent Hezbollah from stockpiling missiles and attacking Israel. By 2004, the military campaign scheduled to last about three weeks that we’re seeing now had already been blocked out and, in the last year or two, it’s been simulated and rehearsed across the board.”
More than a year ago, a senior Israeli army officer began giving PowerPoint presentations, on an off-the-record basis, to U.S. and other diplomats, journalists and think tanks, setting out the plan for the current operation in revealing detail. Under the ground rules of the briefings, the officer could not be identified.

King Kong, you so know more. I knew primarily how to chant (and was learning a bit more) but now it is fading because I no longer . You are living the Reality. .
I think the Security council should set a precedence that when some member says something totally off the wall they have as an option tying a chain and two cinder blocks around his ankles and then throwing them in the East River.:jason::jason:
I wonder what would happen if the Israeli UN ambassador got bombarded by a volley of water balloons full of yellow paint.:rofl2::rofl2::rant1:
Fred, my head hurts
I know I am suppose to endure but I can hardly stand this :crap:…I saw the confusion and fear in the eyes of children. I can not “act” like nothings wrong.

Perfect :bow:King Kong Perfect :bow:Fred
:rofl2:I write a bunch of paragraphs (many I save) but too many words for me, at this time. Thus I will say this.
I am like a horrid pimple which needs to be popped periodically to be able to continue. By speaking and in many levels, some with sharp wit some with rage, it allows me to be “popped”. I am a member of the local Dems but they are :yuck: and I have important projects that must be finished and “released”
Thank you for allowing this pimple to pop. But sometimes this all just is so illogical, I cannot “wrap my brain around it. I truly at times do not understand and wonder how to do anything…when I do not understand why we just don’t call for a “special election”. The rethugs have wasted out money on so many special elections…why can’t we vote the bastard out?

ISI
Glad to hear you have power back. Did you sustain much damage?
(Hope you STILL have power).
:peace:
You know, Fred, some of the virulent anti-Israel stuff that gets posted here bothers me*, but on this you’re right on — I think that the Israel incursion into Lebanon IS the October Surprise, only it’s happening early. It’s a way for the neocons to further their plan without the U.S. having to get its hands dirty, since Bush’s credibility is somewhere south of zero.
*The reason it bothers me is that even though I hate what Israel is doing, and I agree that putting a Jewish state in a place surrounded by people who want to wipe it out, just because the Allied powers felt guilty after WWII for not doing more about Hitler’s camps sooner, I feel sometimes that people here similarly want to wipe it out of existence.
I’m not observant, but I was raised in a marginally Jewish household, I have dealt with anti-Semitism in my life, and even though I know that opposing what Israel does is NOT the same as anti-Semitism, it sometimes FEELS like it is. I’m not saying this FEELING of “being personally attacked” when people here say what they do about Israel is rational, but it’s there. :tinfoil: :paranoid:
I dont’ know what the answer is. At this point, for most Israelis (i.e. the ones born there), it IS their home, and it’s not their fault that they were born in a state that many people think shouldn’t exist. But do you right the wrong now by kicking them all out of the only home THEY know?
That said, the U.S. policy of always supporting everything Israel does, and trying to counterbalance it by supporting regimes like the House of Saud so that we can keep the oil coming, just plain isn’t working, and we have to do something else.
This latest opening of the weaponry pipeline to funnell more weaponry more quickly into Israel is troubling, because we’re just adding gasoline to an already out-of-control fire. :fustrate:
I don’t know if this is Bush trying to fulfill his delusion of being God’s Anointed Architect of the Apocalypse, but I do think that the problem of Israel and its neighbors is too complex, and too difficult to be dealt with by simple slogans.
Peace out, my fellow Seditionistas. :peace: :jesus: :yinyang:
ISI DITTO what Farmerkat said,,,,
Glad your power is on. A whole weekend without power, it does give time of contemplation. But 😮
Crap! I missed The Raconteurs the other night/ Crap crap crap crap crap!:rant1:

Thanks Farmerkat and Druid and other well wishers. The storm Wednesday night came out of nowhere. Northeast to Southwest. Very high winds and heavy rain. The rough part was the 100 degree temperatures and the high humidity. I live in a red brick building (they become like ovens in high temperatures) and there was no way I could contemplate anything except making it until cooler temperatures or the electricity came back on. The power came back just as the cooler temperatures arrived. There were over 1/2 million customers or 2.4 million people that lost power in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Lots of trees and limbs down. I was in my car when the second storm hit yesterday (undoing a lot of the repair work that had been done) and it was like an obstacle course dodging trees limbs and falling bricks in one case. Haven’t checked to see how many are still without power today. But, at least the forecast is for temperatures in the 80’s today. 😀

Great, now Syracuse will have to worry about getting invaded. Thanks NBC.
Hey, sounds pretty convincing to me. BTW, Alexandria Bay is about 100 miles from Syracuse, in the 1000 Islands. Or maybe they meant to say that the US District Court is a hotbed of Hezbollah activity?
John Gibson on Fox asked if Hezbollah is now in possession of Saddam’s WMD.
IF Saddam really had WMD would he not have used them when Iraq was invaded? The fact that he didn’t proved to me that they never existed. I admit I had grave doubts that Sadam did have them but when we invaded and they were not deployed I knew we would never find them.
I’ve always imagined someone in possession of fire power saying, “I”m under attack. Better get rid of these weapons. Maybe my neighbor will take them.”
The way Israel was created was the beginning of the bigger problem. The Palestinians who were very tribal in nature didn’t really have a nation state in the area in 1948 but were also not asked if the creation of Israel would be ok with them so they took offense to having the concept forced down their throats. Israeli expansionism and the theft of the Palestinian natural resources is the second problem. Israel exists at a time which is not at all like America in the latter part of the 19th century where they can go about herding the Palestinians onto reservations like America did to the native Americans. There are other sympathetic countries around them to give them financial and military support.
Most of the Israeli expansionist adventures have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians.. I think the people in the middle east still hold grudges over wars that happened before Christ was born so they are not likely to just give Israel a free pass if they merely retreat back to where they were before they killed 25,000 Lebanese, and 40,000 Egyptians, and 30,000 Palestinians in the territories they attempted to and did occupy..
The situation may not be reversible because Islam and the nationalism it fosters encompasses a hundred times more people in that area than there are in Israel. There are also a lot of Muslims in western Europe and they are becoming a political force similar to the Hispanics in the United States and those counties have a sizable military presence and certainly can if they don’t already build nuclear weapons.:shock::rant1:
St Louis now declared federal disaster area, 433,000 outages this morning, 2.4 million without power. I am very lucky.
I don’t think any non-insane person has any doubts at this point that Saddam just plain didn’t have any WMD. John Gibson is a joke, whose career peaked with the OJ trial. If it wasn’t for Fux News, he and his cohorts would be selling Rainbow® vacuum cleaners door-to-door right now.
Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that the bon-bon eating couch potatoes aren’t sitting in their trailers paying attention to them, in between searching for matching cinderblocks to prop up their sofas.
Anything one hears on FAUX news must be first taken as a lie to proven true.:shock::rant1:
So, is anyone else having a problem with yahoo messenger. The damn thing practically forced me to download the new version and it seems to log me off randomly and seems to be causing slow response from everything else, especially when I’m logged in. :rant1: I’m starting the day ranting.
I donwloaded the beta version a while back, and it’s been a bit flakey from time to time, though it doesn’t seem to be a problem right now.
Metro Denver has been the land of exploding transformers these last few days too. Excel always has that problem during hot weather while Fort Collins and Colo Springs which both have public owned utilities never seen to have that problem.. Must be something about being cheap…:paranoid::tongue:
I just shut it down and things seem to be working better. I can’t get the help page up so I can complain. Is there any other way to bitch at them?
Oh, MSNBC has been teasing a story about Hezbollah in the US. I bet they’re about to recycle the schmuck on the Today Show, with his Hezbollah Hotspot Map. Funny, if I now know that he’s pointing to a map with Syracuse on it, because a couple of people (who may or may not have had any connection to Hezbollah) from Montreal once sold a phony passort to an undercover person in Alex Bay (in 1994, no less), why should I take anything that he says seriously?
Agreed, Fred. I fear there are too many grudges on all sides for there to ever be a solution. 🙁
All this violence makes me want to hide in the mountains and become a wild feral woman of the wood.
I’ve long wished to become a hermit in the woods. Kinda like the unabomber, except I don’t want to make bombs, and I want satellite TV and high-speed Internet access. And A/C, which is sorely missing in this shithole of a dorm room at the moment. It’s officially cooler outside than in here, so I’ve go all the windows open, and get to hear the freakin’ tons of traffic going by, and the bell in the National Shrine tolling.
I wonder for whom that bell tolls?
diversion ==> Landis is starting the time trial!
isi, i’m so relieved you’re ok and dodged that brick. 😯 scary.
The violence is awful but it it the studipidy that facilitates it that keeps amazing me. As for the woods, with A/C etc. please add no mosquitos and a supermarket to the list..and of course indoor plumbing.
They asked Condi why she didn’t go to the Middle East sooner to try and fix all this stuff (I think they had to remind her what her job title is suposed to be). She said she coulda gotten on a plane sooner, but they were having a really great sale at Ferragamo on Fifth Ave, and she needed to get some sensible shoes if she was gonna go traipsing around in the desert.
these neocons are freaking cockroaches :fu:
God, this MSNBC bimbo is quite the scag.
:rofl2:
and i ditto what sue said about mosquitos.
This is from a study bu the Federal Education Department:Based on adjusted school means, the average for public schools was significantly higher than the average for private schools for grade 4 mathematics, while the average for private schools was significantly higher than the average for public schools for grade 8 reading. The average differences in adjusted school means for both grade 4 reading and grade 8 mathematics were not significantly different from zero.
Margaret Spelling claims not to have read it but it didn’t stop her from proposing a huge voucher program to send kids to private school.
BTW the schools that performed the worst were the conservative Christian ones.
I suppose Bush wanted to change it to “To reach out, and explore new planets, to boldly go….”
I hear he refers to Condi’s private parts as her “little Uhura.”
Private and charter schools are not bound by desegregation guidelines and in many cases their students to not have to take the No child left tests. If they want to teach bigotry, hate , lies . ( the mantra of the rethug) there is little stopping them.:rant1::paranoid:
You don’t even wanna hear about his “Kirk.”
Brilliant,
I know there are loads of emotions in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. However, I don’t remember anyone here questioning Israel’s right to exist. Topics of how to reach peace have been voiced. I think the plight of the Palestinians is similar to that of blacks in S.Africa and many on the blog find outraged at the injustice. At least I speak for myself, my feelings have nothing to do with ethnicity. If fact, I think if we could take out that emotional element on all sides, peace would be reached sooner rather than later.
:peace:
:rofl2:
(plus you’re keeping mr fk laughing!)
Israel as established by the UN did not violate any national sovernty ( I don’t believe). There seemingly constant over reaction to the native populations resistance and there expansionist policies seem to be the problem.
Joan Chittister’s Column today has a letter from a Palestinian friend in Israel.
In regards to Israel’s incursion into the country of Lebanon one must wonder what role Bush’s religious beliefs enter into the equation? Is Bush a madman? Does he really believe that he is playing a part in Christian biblical prophesy? What must the world endure to finally prove the madness of the Christian fallacy?
Good morning seditionistas….how is everyone today?
I stayed up late messing with my blog but then actually slept so Im sorta OK, though it may take more than one night to make up the past few weeks!
This thing is just scary….I have to put Dowd up in a few minutes because, damn….from what theyre saying on MSNBC, Condi, besides doing close to nothing anyway, will not be able to do much. We need a special envoy….
And what about Iraq??
Kat, watching all of this I hope that they dont send Mr FK off anywhere soon…it looks so bad.
You gotta hand it to Anne Curry that she jumps right into the middle of it. I love her.
But they must be spread thin…as is everyone….
What a nightmare.
I saw Grandpa yesterday for his birthday and he is all distraught. Not that he cares so much for Israel, but that we have no statesmen or diplomacy
Did anyone see the Countdown last nite with that guy talking about how BUsh chews his food?…his cud…
And also, I was trying to put up the snip of Sam and Janeane talking about Bush and the NAACP…still fiddling with it, but maybe its the bitrate that Im saving it at? Cant find quite the right URL in my house of cards over there on blogger….
I suppose that if I just fixed my real page this would not be happening, but it involves more than what Ive got already because I cant blog and say what I say under my grandfather’s name…lest he have a heart attack!…so I got RIPCoco domain but now I have to build it….
Apparently Israel just went across the border because they warned that it would happen at 6PM and its just after 6 there….reports are that ground forces are in. If they stay…who knows?…but alot of very samrt people …commentators…are saying that this Hezbollah thing wont be solved in a week or a month or a year because Hezbollah has actually done alot for the people and they are behind them…so this creates more disaffected youth and more Hezbollah…round and round…
also, it occurs to me that a mini Katrina is happening in St Louis and its hardly anywhere on the news…people had to leave their pets, and its been 5 days!….just now FEMA is starting to make a little move of making CALLS to governers, etc…
So, again, we send the worst person without the experience to try to broker a deal in a place where you can only gain a foothold if you go in and make life better as in power, food, and all that good stuff….and we dont do that…hell, we cant even do that here!!
Id prefer to see more of that rather than having to watch every air raid siren in Israel!
OH, and Condi has no intention of trying to broker anything really….no intention at all…
Hey does anyone have the URL FOR THe Marc Maron tribute from last week…I need to download it while IM on the right computer
and can anyone stream the clips from my little player? Of course…in grand fashion…the player goes to the bottom if youre using IE, and in my Firefox it is saying that its performing an illegal action…so maybe this little experiment isnt going so well…hacking and all…
cnick–I think the chimp:ear: believes he is a religious figure of some kind. He is seriously mentally ill, and lots of times, when you are insane, it takes the shape of religious narrative. :priest: ie: we are all in big trouble.:omg:
There will never be peace in the Middle East. The sooner we learn this the better. This is not a part of some divine plan of God. It is a matter of land. The ownership of land. Israel will see, just as the US has witnessed in Iraq, just how hard it is to fight such a ground war. We may be witnessing the beginnings of a much larger war. Seems like the Arab countires could use their oil as a weapon to pressure the west to end this incursion into Lebanon. I don’t know if Israel can be intimidated or influenced to stop. It is worrisome to say the least.
I am growing tired of CNN’s incessant “BREAKING NEWS” breaks!!!! Do they consider every little event BREAKING NEWS??? GD, alright already!
I don’t even bother with television news anymore. I don’t trust it.
I watch the MSNBC…but a scary woman at the gym the other day told me that Faux was the only true news and that the rest is just propaganda…especially CNN!!…so in her house they watch it 24/7…she knows because her husband told her so….Go back to Florida lady!! (she had one of those tans that said Fla./STamford old person…we have alot of those round here…
I just looked at her….I realized that I was meeting one of the 30%…and I felt too exhausted to say anything. I just said “you think?”…and I walked away…this when I had taken the TV controller and was going through the bank of TVs to turn off Faux totally and she stopped me…so I allowed her one TV to herself. Damn. Its like a petting zoo: “and this creature is one of the 30% who buy the neocon shit…very rare in the northeast, but obviously still in existence”….hey you, get off of my cloud!!
PJ- is there a problem with Firefox and shockwave ?
These faux news watchers think they are aligned with God against the heathen world. We are witnessing their mischief-making. The consequences are enormous for the world.
Melina–Gross! But that explains how people can watch Fox. They are afraid of any perspective that removes one card from their precarious fake world view. If you start to look around, it all falls down. And that would be scary:eek: for the watb’s:holla: who watch Fox. That’s why you need to drink the koolaid.:40: I know that kind of tan too. Did she have that republican hairspray hair? We get those types up here during tourist season. They are really icky. Hummers and W bumper stickers. The whole nine.:fu:
Not that I know of. Shockwave as in Flash? Or as in Shockwave the Shockwave player? Any particular sites you’re having trouble with? Or is your player on your blog? It doesn’t seem to play in IE, either. It isn’t somehow linkd to local files on your computer, is it?
Oh, did she have the old lady bubblecut with the “auburn” hair paint (red dye #7, I believe), and spray-glued into place to cover over the bare spots?
OK, well, it’s way too freakin’ hot to stay here. A very cold shower helped until I dried out, but now I’m all moist again (and not in a good way), so I reckon I better at least go drive around with the air conditioning on, until it’s late enough to sit around and drink beer until I can fall asleep. I feel like I could grill salmon on my forehead (I’ll spare yout the details of where it feels like I could bake potatoes).
Pj just where are you man? Guess I missed the details. Sounds like h e double L to me. Hope things get better for you man. If it makes you feel any better. Its HOT here in Birmingham, Alabama also. Fortunately for me, the power is on and the AC is working fine. I hear tell of cooler weather moving into the area tomorrow evening. A welcome change. But (as it is only mid July) I suspect we shall all experience this wave of heat again. A sign of Global Warming? GW says “no” and we all know that GW is an informed leader. Ha Ha. I wish Jesus would hurry back and take these ignorant ppl home with him. I want to inherent the earth or what is left of it after their departure. Scorched as it may be.
The Shame of Being
An American
By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS
Do you know that Israel is engaged in ethnic cleansing in southern Lebanon? Israel has ordered all the villagers to clear out. Israel then destroys their homes and murders the fleeing villagers. That way there is no one to come back and nothing to which to return, making it easier for Israel to grab the territory, just as Israel has been stealing Palestine from the Palestinians.
Do you know that one-third of the Lebanese civilians murdered by Israel’s attacks on civilian residential districts are children? That is the report from Jan Egeland, the emergency relief coordinator for the UN. He says it is impossible for help to reach the wounded and those buried in rubble, because Israeli air strikes have blown up all the bridges and roads. Considering how often (almost always) Israel misses Hizbollah targets and hits civilian ones, one might think that Israeli fire is being guided by US satellites and US military GPS. Don’t be surprised at US complicity. Why would the puppet be any less evil than the puppet master?
Of course, you don’t know these things, because the US print and TV media do not report them.

the republican ladies who come here always have a stiff, “blond” sort of helmet of hair that looks like it would stay put in a hurricane. They have a sort of a golf look to them. The men ones have these very fat asses and ironed pants. They walk around town with a very satisfied look a very well-fed, smug look on their faces. They always drive these very brand-new, very very large SUVs or hummers.
As for the heat, the heat in chicago is what drove me out to california. I just couldn’t take it. It terrified me.
Re: 44 and Saddams WMD. I do not know if this has ever been posted before, but…..It would be very easy for the NeoCons to believe that Saddam had WMD as they SUPPLIED them to Saddam during the Iran/Iraq war. It was a payback to the Iranians for the embassy siege and the Iranian revolution. Why did Saddam gas the Kurds? The Kurds were allied with Iran during that period. Saddam was fighting a “two front war” The most interesting thing to me is that the media completely misreports and omits these facts. This was done with the complete blessing of the U.S. and Bush I. Years later Bush II blames Saddam for what his family instigated and started a war over it. Saddam probably used them all or destroyed them. They did exist however as was proof of the war. The inference was all to easy. You wonder why we have problems in the mid east?
PJ- if youre still around…its an error that I get in Firefox saying that shockwave flash performed an illegal operation and that firefox should be restarted immediately.
It just wont play on IE.
I put the clips on a host server that was suggested by the blogger hacker who figured this out. I looked at a couple of other sites with this player and they played fine in Firefox….no error…so…geeze….
The when you get to the firefox help groups there IS a problem in that people get an error that their whole page wont come up…but thats not my problem.
Maybe its the hosting company…?
regarding the repug woman…what was scary was her thighs! they were huge jelly things that were a strange color orange and she was wearing shorts…then she insisted on sitting directly next to me even though there were, well, all of the bikes were opened …”creature of habit” she said….ick….really stupid.
For some reason alot of the old folks here, and I guess everywhere, get a second place in Fla. and go back and forth. I guess its cheap and warm down there and they can get into a retirement community or trailer park of some sort.
There was something so in your face about here, and she lacked the social space interpreter that most people have…so it wasnt her jelly thighs and very way too tight and short workout clothes, but that she was sorta too close and saying this stuff as if it is waht everyone thinks.
For once, I just said to myself that life is too short to waste time on the 30%…maybe when IM older Ill start a charity to educate the kids of those people…because they are past helping to see anything…these are the die hards!
I donno why but myspace sort of creeps me out. I don’t like it. Not at all. So I’m not going to join “that place” just so I can be one of Marc’s myspace buds. I figure you guys (and ladies) will keep me informed. You always have in the past. Melina . . . is this a windows machine or program your having probs with? I really have to say that my Mac works quite well. I’m able to create a site with a Mac software program called Iweb which contains a blog and a podcast page. And with Mac’s Garageband software program I can produce a podcast and seamlessly import it into my web site. I think I heard you say you disliked Macs after owning one. Perhaps your just to addicted to the Windows world? Nothing against Windows mind you. I have a Dell laptop I use on out of town trips. And when I’m home and in need of Windows I can boot it on my Intel Apple Imac. So cool. BTW, I like your blog. And this one PJ has created for us Marc Maron fans. I always favored PJ’s blog over Marc’s Air America page. After awhile I stopped blogging on both sites only to find myself back here as the end of Marc’s show approached. Now this is about the only way to stay connected to my family of bloggers. Hope that Marc will find his way back to the airwaves before long. Listening to old MS and MMS’s is nice but no subsitute for a current show and commentary. Marc had a way of making me feel that in the end we’d come out on top and all would be made right with the world. Those hopes may have faded in the absense of Marc’s show. But we’re still out here speaking our minds. Unafraid of the religious right, the criminals in the Republican party, and that imbecile in the White House. Go out into the land Sheeple and spread our word. Our day will come!
Man! Mr. Heat has come down on us hard. Me and my friend just had a good laugh over PJ’s last stand in his dorm room!:rofl2: We were just talking about driving around in the car all day because it’s cooler in there. And my friend has the same plan to drink beer and pass out.I swear it must have been 100 degrees by 9am. It hit 110 by noon. So, we may be looking at a 120 degree day by the time Mr. Heat gets through with us. We were sitting in the cool rain last night and all of a sudden this HOT wind kicked up and dried everything out, instantly. UGH! And it’s not even August yet! 😡
nick-I only have a myspace for a few people, and Marc is one of them. Mine says that I dont really want to know anyone…so besides some idiots who try to pick me up or whatever, I dont really go on there often enough to even keep up with marc via that page. I get an email from his list and I expect that he will have his page back soon. I hope he doesnt go through a big upheaval about it because basic is better in these things.
I love PCs and I have a mac in the house. I think that the main reason that I liked PCs back, 12 years ago or so, when I first started with the ocmputer thing, is that I always built them and took them apart. Back then you couldnt get into a mac at all…I like that I can take these apart and figure them out, though I know that Macs are more like that now.
Anyway, it is a PC problem…as I work mostly on a new dell laptop which is fantastic….17″ screen…
anyway, IM pretty sure its the hosting program. Im playing around with blogger and learning alot through the template work…and also working on another page that I have for my grandfather and a new part of that that I will put up and hopefully put my blog in there, so Im not tied to blogspot!
Glad to have you back! I noticed you were gone and wondered what happened but some people drifted away and into Marc’s blog. I cant, for thelife of me, figure out why he wouldnt want to slap together something with PJ’s help or one of his west coast people to just transfer those people to another blog. I guess he figures that we’re here and can perch here for now…..
We should try to stick together…
I wrote to the AAR folks asking for them to reconsider a deal with Marc or giving him the 9AM slot from the west coast and moving Jerry somewhere else….

Letting Lebanon Burn
by MERIP Editors; Middle East Report Online; July 21, 2006
Israel is raining destruction upon Lebanon in a purely defensive operation, according to the White House and most of Congress. Even some CNN anchors, habituated to mechanical reporting of “Middle East violence,” sound slightly incredulous. With over 300 Lebanese dead and easily 500,000 displaced, with the Beirut airport, bridges and power plants disabled, the enormous assault is more than a “disproportionate response” to Hizballah’s July 12 seizure of two soldiers and killing of three others on Israeli soil. It is more than the “excessive use of force” that UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan decries. The aerial assault dwarfs the damage done by Hizballah’s rocket attacks on Israeli towns. Entire villages in south Lebanon lie in ruins, unknown numbers of their inhabitants buried in the rubble and tens of others incinerated in their vehicles by Israeli missiles as they attempted to escape northward. As it awaits the promised “humanitarian corridor,” Lebanon remains almost entirely cut off from the outside world by air, sea and land. As of July 20, thousands of Israeli troops have moved across the UN-demarcated Blue Line. Yet virtually the entire American political class actively resists international calls for an immediate ceasefire, preferring to wait for an Israeli victory.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert set the tone immediately after Hizballah struck, branding the cross-border raid as “an act of war” whose consequences would be “very, very, very painful.” Moreover, Israel would hold the Lebanese government and the Lebanese nation as a whole responsible. Israel’s determination to inflict pain upon Lebanon was fanned on the fourth day of Israeli bombardment when Hizballah Secretary-General Sheikh Hasan Nasrallah likewise declared “open warfare,” and the Shiite movement’s militia stepped up rocket fire that has taken 15 Israeli civilian lives. Though the Katyushas and larger projectiles are much deadlier than the Qassams of Hamas, Israel faces no existential threat from the rockets on either front. It is in Lebanon, to paraphrase Israeli army chief of staff Gen. Dan Halutz, where the clock has been turned back 20 years.
The American broadcast media nevertheless labor to fashion symmetry where there is none. There is balanced treatment of the casualties on both sides. The Israelis forced into bomb shelters are juxtaposed with the Lebanese politely warned to flee their homes. For competing renditions of the day’s bloodletting, CNN’s avuncular Larry King turns first to nonchalantly windblown Israeli spokeswoman Miri Eisen and then to a program director from Hizballah’s al-Manar satellite channel, Ibrahim al-Musawi, who always seems to have one eye on the sky. The rock-star reporters who parachuted in to cover the story dispense dollops of confusion. CNN’s Anderson Cooper in Cyprus explained that, since Hamas members are Sunni and Hizballah members Shi’i, they are “historic rivals.” MSNBC’s Tucker Carlson, sans bowtie to convey the seriousness of the occasion, wondered if Hizballah had rocketed Nazareth because its residents are all Christian, ignoring the images on the screen behind him from the attack victims’ funeral at a mosque…
Oh my God, Krista.
Be careful!
Thats as bad as Iraq!
When I first moved here there was no a/c and you really only needed it for a couple of days in the summer…Will was a baby…and we used to drive to the mall and walk around with him in the stroller when it was really hot.
The electric bill for this house was less than $100 year round.
Now I have a couple of window a/cs of which I use only 1 where Im sitting usually and the electricity bill is $450. Im sure that also the computers and TVs and pets add to the bill…maybe its the laundry, of which there is lots…and the dehumidifiers working against the basement flooding that seems ot be happening every day…
But, its pretty crazy how much everything has gone up and how people in the next town over just lost power for 2 or 3 days…trees are down everywhere and the lightening has been starting transformer fires and such.
It seems like armegeddon to me……very scary.
Hi Nicki- I was just wondering where you and Suz were….
Oh, and in cae I didnt say it…I put dowd up on ripcoco,,,I didnt do any commentary because I feel crappy and Ive been trying to do techinical stuff all day…
but I think that she says it all…really, really scary.
Yes, I also wrote the contacts at Air America. But I’m not convinced it will do any good. I’d just as soon Marc move his show to XM or Sirrus satellite radio. I figured after all this Marc might be done with radio altogether. But after listening to him on Majority Report the other night I think he really loves radio. I’ve even come to enjoy producing my own podcasts. As unprofessional as they may be – they give me the outlet I somehow require, a way to vent my anger. To express myself. So I can see how Marc must feel. His love of radio. It is nice knowing that as long as I can afford a web server and an internet connection, I can continue to voice myself through my podcasts. So, what if I have a limited audience? Perhaps as I feel more comfortable in this new medium (computers and the internet have given us) I will become more confident. And I’ll become better at voicing my thoughts.
I really think that the future of all media is gonna be streamed wirelessly through the internet …radios will have hundreds of presets to different streaming sources or pages. The first woreless radios are already coming out and whole cities are getting connnected…so, keep going withyour small audience. YOu never know what will happen or if you’ll strike a nerve somewhere…or break a story….who knows?
fingers crossed for Marc getting back on radio….Its really AAR’s loss if they dont offer him more or different terms…
Well, that was a nice junket out to the Prince George’s Mall. Unfortunately, every other human in MD w/o a/c had the same idea, and it was filled with broods of kids running around and shrieking (not that I didn’t find them adorable, you understand). Bought a thermometer so I could quantify my misery. Not too bad, only 88 in the room – about the same outside (thank god things have cooled off here – it could be 100, I reckon). Humidity is about 5,000%, I think.
I’m in DC for the summer, cnick – for about another two weeks. I’m living in a goddamn dorm room. and the a/c is not working – I think there was a t-storm power blip late Friday afternoon, and there won’t be anything done about it until Monday (my guess is the chilled water pumps need to be restarted, thought it’s hard to tell w/o looking – which I would be very much happy to do, goddamn it).
Even better, I’m at Catholic University of America. This is perhaps my punishment for not only falling from the church (not that I was ever very much into it – I quit going to church when I was about 12, I think), but for being married by a fallen priest. Oh, the shame.
Melina, I don’t get any fatal errors at your site. What verson of Firefox and the Flash plugin do you have? I have 1.5.04 for FF, and for flash I have
NPSWF32.dll
Shockwave Flash 9.0 r16
(though I just upgraded it right now, and it worked w/ v. 8 no problem). I just checked, and it doesn’t choke on your site w/ v9.
Could be a combination of a whole bunch of shit, I guess.
One of the big problems w/ my thermoelectric frig is that it’s only good for about 30 degrees below ambient, so it’s not exactly keeping my beer/water/mayo/salad cold. This blows. I’m so glad I don’t live where things are really miserable, like Baghdad or Beirut or the Sudan or….
well, this doesnt look too promising:
Hi Melina,
As always, thanks for your thoughtful comments. As you might guess, we are disappointed that Marc chose not to come back top NY, but we are excited at the prospect of some new stuff we’re developing. I wish I could say more, but all will be revealed in the fullness of time! I know that Marc will continue to be a treasured family member, and along with Janeane, will continue to appear on the network, although in a less formal way. You never know what the future holds, so stayed tune, and thanks again.

I think what will happen is you’ll buy bandwidth to your home – over fibre, for the time being. Media will be on demand, and you’ll subscribe to what you want, and watch/listen to it on your own schedule. You’ll take it with you wherever you go. Wireless will be big, but there are lots of things to overcome – not the least of which is the lack of spectrum available. Still, as they continue to create new coding schemes, more and more things will be possible.
Hey PJ- I like that diagnosis…whole bunch of shit!!…yeah!!
Does the audio play?
Is it on the bottom in IE?
Ive spent all day doing stuff to that page and getting nothing done!
Yeah, I think whatever the future holds for Marc, it won’t be on AAR. If he gets some kind of a radio deal soon, then we’ll hear from him. But the longer he goes w/o that, and the more he gets back to his standup roots, the less of a chance (I think) there is that he’ll even want to get back to the daily grind of a radio show. AAR missed the boat, got a rare second chance, and fucked that up, too.
a scary woman at the gym the other day told me that Faux was the only true news and that the rest is just propaganda…especially CNN!!….Go back to Florida lady!!
Comment by Melina — July 22, 2006 @ 12:12 pm
Hey, what makes you think WE want her? 😆
For some reason a lot of the old folks here, and I guess everywhere, get a second place in Fla. and go back and forth. I guess its cheap and warm down there and they can get into a retirement community or trailer park of some sort.
Comment by Melina — July 22, 2006 @ 3:00 pm
You may be seeing more of her if she lives in a trailer park down here. Developers are buying up much of that land and forcing the tenants out so that condos can be built. The trailer residents get a relocation fee from the state, but it usually isn’t enough to cover the cost of moving the trailer.
Our area is probably seeing it first since we have water on three sides and lots of beaches, but it looks to be a trend in Florida in general. Ten years from now, almost all of downtown St Pete will be condos, and the poor slobs who work the service jobs will have to commute in from 50 miles away because they won’t be able to afford to live anywhere in St Pete other than the slums.
Personally, I blame Jeb. No particular reason, I just can’t fucking stand him.
:fu:
No, it’s not on the bottom in IE. It’s right under your “about me” thing – #2 on the right side. Just doesn’t play.
Hey Melina, thanks for posting Dowd. I’m so glad I decided not to get Times Select. I couldn’t bear the thought of PAYING to read Tierney and Brooks. Usually it’s all I can stand to read them for free. :barf:
OK, so, since John Kerry stole my spoon (and my fork), I need a new one. You ever try to by “one” set of silverware? Can’t do it. I don’t wanna spend $30 on a service for 12, damnit. So I had to get the “extra strong” plastic stuff. I feel like a Florida Republican.
I feel like I could grill salmon on my forehead (I’ll spare yout the details of where it feels like I could bake potatoes).
Comment by pjsauter — July 22, 2006 @ 1:08 pm
You realize, of course, that none of us will ever be able to eat a baked potato again.
:rofl2:
So I had to get the “extra strong” plastic stuff. I feel like a Florida Republican.
Comment by pjsauter — July 22, 2006 @ 4:24 pm
Are you kidding? Florida Republicans don’t use plastic utensils. They buy silver place-settings and charge them to a lobbyist. 😆
And in the case of Katherine Harris, throw in a couple of bottles of $900 wine and a new roof for her “historic” DC home.
:fu:
Man, I’ve been posting the finger emoticon a lot lately.
All this violence makes me want to hide in the mountains and become a wild feral woman of the wood.
Comment by Kristapea — July 22, 2006 @ 9:58 am
Add a dialysis machine, and you could be Osama! :rofl2:
So what did you end up painting on that kid’s bedroom walls?
Oh, not those Republicans. The one’s that sit in their trailers and yell “yoo tellum Rush!”
ITS NOT ON THE BOTTOM IN IE????? Does that mean I fixed it?????
Ive been playing round with it all day….let me look.
Just wondered what others might think of this? I’ve read the opinions of others here in regard to the Jerry Springer Show on Air America Radio. I’ve listened on ocassion to “Springer on the Radio” and I do not dislike his radio show. At least he has listener call-ins and he allows them to voice their opinions (unlike Randi Rhodes who likes to talk over her call-ins and belittle them). I’ve never heard Jerry Springer be disrespectful to any of his listeners. I figure some of you out there think Springer’s radio show is like his television show. There is no comparison. Jerry Springer has hurt himself (irreparably I think) by hosting that trailer park show on television. Granted Springer is not my fav liberal talk radio show. I guess now that Marc has been silenced on AAR I like Sam Seder best. But during the Maron interview the other night Sam said he might be leaving Majority Report soon also. So where does this leave us? Also in this regard, I must say that I listen to Ed Shultz on ocassion also. And like Springer, I figure he’s being given a bad rap. I donno if he has all of his facts straight on the Middle East. So what! I donno that I can say I know it all either. Isn’t this the point of guests? Ed Shultz does seem to get some very good guests to fill in the gaps in his understanding of global events. What is sorely missed here is the ability to laugh at all the cRaZy things that are happening in our world today. That’s why I relied on Marc Maron and the creative ppl who surrounded him. Maybe Siton and the AAR execs will find some creative people out there to fill the void. If not I’ll just listen to my Ipod and bitch about things on my podcasts.
PS. I dare say Randi Rhodes seems to think she knows everything. And that makes me suspect she’s not so smart after all. Regardless, I do listen to Randi from time to time. Especially when I want to blow off some steam. Once its gone (the steam) it takes awhile for it to build up again. By that time Randi is off air and I can just break a few light bulbs or glasses to vent my anger and if that doesn’t work I guess I can :fustrate: up against a brick wall.
:joe: sun up! (and not too happy about what’s going on on this ball)
:40: Sun is going down here in Birmingham, Alabama and I’m not to happy about what’s going on on this ball either! I feel your pain.
cnickthomas- what’s on the table for dinner tonight? “oil stick and omlette stuffed clay roll” and some soy milk is for breakfast here. and coffee.
I just had a BIG bowl of beef stew here and Ice cold sweet tea. Mmm, Mmm, good.
I think you’re a bit more sophisticated than I, King
omg: :omg: the big orange thighs…the lack of personal bubble awareness…the inapproprate talking…today I saw two older republican tourists…not the golf types, they had not one but two W bumper stickers on their car, and the man has a big belly and a baseball cap that read “old fart” and the woman one had an actual beehive. I haven’t one of those in quite a while. They both gave me dirty looks when I walked by, and I didn’t even have so much as an impeach bush button on. It’s like they were mad at me for not being as gross as them.
I am sending big bundles of sympathy and empathy to all of you in the heat.
(ps St. Pauli Girl is good right out of the freezer.:40: )
pps cnick I am scared of myspace too. It just seems so potentially stalker-y/internet porn/NSA ish.
Smells great, cnick! It’s a typical breakfast here. I’m 0ff to the morning market. 881 Have a good one.
This is kind of creepy but I keep hearing this static in my computer speakers. Its like morse code. And on top of that I’ve been out-of-town before and hear it everywhere. From the speakers on televisions in the hotel room, in my car radio speakers . . . everwhere! This is creeping me out. You think God is trying to tell me something? Or maybe my deceased parents are sending me morse code messages like: “Cnick you better straighten up or your headed straight to hell!” I guess you all think I’m crazy now huh?
PS. Liberals like curvy letters. You figure it out. “S” is a very sexy letter! :hubba:
cnick….maybe youre just recognizing the static that youre hearing way too much on your speakers in other things….like hearing your same ring tone and reacting….try hooking up some other speakers and try to see if you get the hiss out at home if it goes away in other places…and if not…well, maybe you need to see an ENT to check your ears…and then….maybe you need to see a neurologist to make sure its not a brain tumor…and then?…time to ask a shrink, and I dont mean Dr Maddow…Id ask an MD Psychiatrist!
Also, Jerry’s show isnt the same as his TV show but it is stupid and is directed towards the stupider segment of the population. It is popular with older folks, such as my Mom.
He has hurt his credibility with his TV show, but he refuses to give it up because he gets paid so much and the market for it stays strong…so he blames pop culture for what hes doing…or something.
He came to AAR like the Sattelite Sisters, in a package deal where he has all of his commercials already in place and just buys the time for more money than they were getting selling their owb commercials. That was worth selling out Unfiltered to Goldfuck.
So, its a package with no input from the network and hes never acted especialy like hs part of the AAR family. He just buys time from them.
I hate that big things can be happening and you can turn him on (by accident, in my case) and hes talking about Oprah and what does she owe to the hip hop community….COME ON!!…we’re fighting for our lives here! At that point I might as well be reading people magazine, or better, my new fav, The Star!
Do you view the static as part of your hearin or is it a distinct and separate entitiy that is speaking to you in your parent’s voices?:rofl2:
Melina, I agree with you that Jerry has some lame ass shows now and then. So pointless it seems. I wasn’t aware of the terms of his coming to Air America. Thanks for the info. YES, I’d much prefer a Marc Maron during Jerry’s time slot. Wouldn’t that be grand?
As for the static. Its not so much static, but sounds more like a morse code message . . . I’m not shitting you. Like dots and dashes! Weird. I thought it might be extraterrestrials trying to tell us to STOP this shit going on on this planet or they’d invade, but that’s just one of many possibilities. And YES, I would have thought that I was just imagining all this if I weren’t talking to my best friend one night on the telephone and pointed the sound out to him. He heard it too! Damn strange. It could be Karl Rove trying to get me commited to a mental institution after I wrote that scathing letter I sent to the White House some time back. He’d do anything to make a liberals life miserable I suspect. Oh well, can’t be bothered with all that right now. I’ll just have my Lexapro refilled. Maybe that’ll help me not give a damn about anything anymore!
Well, I wish the Democratic Party had the cojones that the Mexican opposition party has! They’re saying “We’re not gonna stand for our elections being stolen anymore!” It’s great for these (our) political leaders to stand up and say “I will gracefully concede” but what does that mean for the rest of us? We are getting stuck with these governments that are absolutely running our country into the ground.–RFK Jr.
“She’s back” “running back and forth and up and down and any other demension — I guess I could say that I am just “Stringing” along”–lead balloon humour alert:banana::rofl2:
While again seeing pictures like in 90 (sadly THX nickirose)
I have to start with, You don’t even wanna hear about his “Kirk.” PJ 😉
(plus you’re keeping mr fk laughing!) Farmerkat 😉
“Beam me up Scotty, There’s no intelligent life on this planet” *Not meaning this great blog and folks here*:rofl2:
I am not going to take part in the Springer on AAR debate. I agree with both sides and all those in the middle. I am thinking of the matter of UNFILTERED. (UF) My feeling is that this show was killed–in the beginning!–by Clear Channel. (CC) Recall that the show had one hell of a time getting affiliates. I believe that UF was on 7 out of the 50 AAR affiliates at the time it was cancelled. Was this because of CC’s determination to put Ed Schultz on in real time after Franken?
cnickthomas, re 133 As for the static….
:rofl2::eek::omg::paranoid::tinfoil::omg::eek::rofl2:
People!!!!
cnick- possibly the lexapro is making your ears click a bit as in pessure changes or tinnitus…I have had some problems with things like that…unless youre sure that other people have heard the clicks.
You could try a different medication…and/or consider that they might be listening to you if you sent anthing threatening. We know that they are listening and looking for words and phrases, so it could well be just that.
But is not aliens or your parents…that just doesnt make sense in a logical world.
Maybe call the phone company and ask them abotu your line and if its OK.
Or try making a click sound on the phone when its happening and then saying “OK operator, this is the sound I told you about”…and see if it stops.
We used to do that as kids when my father was taping our phone calls to use against my Mom in court or with private investigators that he had following her…yes, bad divorce for 7 years!!
RFK Jr.
Good quote
Hell yeah NikiRose, Democats just seem to roll over and it makes me fucking sick! I almost spit when John Kerry concided! At least Gore had the balls to challenge the outcome. When that damn Supreme Court shut the vote count down I knew we’d lost our democracy. I don’t know that there is any hope now. These criminal Republican’s are now claiming we’re in WWIII. We all know over here what that’s all about. I hate this shitting planet sometimes. It would serve us right if a damn asteroid slammed into it and blasted it into a million pieces or perhaps I’m being a bit to extreme?
Melina . . . you’re to DAMN FUNNY!
let the asteroid slam into the offices of the DLC…then maybe a shower of hot meteors raining over the white house neocons..I’d like to see a lightning bolt hit somebody on Fox news. But oh no, it only seems to rain on my parade, got soaked while I was in the city today.
Lexapro making my ears click . . . Laughing my ass off at that! Damn. See even if we don’t have Marc and Jim around for the funny we can make our own!
Lightening bolt hit someone at FOX NEWS! I love that one Susan Joy
You ppl have definitely brightened my evening.
To bad I don’t have some “pot” to smoke right about now. I’d really be having a blast!
I don’t have pot but I got drunk on sangria today!:alc:
I wished there was a way for me to do call-ins on my podcasts. I’d love to have Melina or Susan Joy be a guest on my show. I bet it would be a riot! Two chicks and a homo. What more could listeners want?
So, I feel like I hear a radio staion or music in the noise of my ac unit. It’s weird because it’s different genres. Sometime rock, sometimes blues.
I’ll share with you cnick! :bong::bong:
PJ if you’re out there in blog land. Do you know how I could record in real time a telephone conversation for my podcast. Like Maron and every other radio show does on air? You’re the expert here. Tell me, tell me, please.
Thanks Kristapea, you’re so sweet!
So, I feel like I hear a radio staion or music in the noise of my ac unit. It’s weird because it’s different genres. Sometime rock, sometimes blues.
At least it’s not conservative talk radio that you hear… I think dentist drills usually channel Rush Limbaugh, but air conditioning units seem to be cooler. Literally.
This house has sure gone crazy! [I doubt anyone of you will remember that line – from whence it came?]

GILAD ATZMON
I’m gonna chill a bit and listen to some Michael Buble. I love Michael. I wanna marry him but these self rightous ppl won’t let me.
Well, I’m in the minority here, because I never much cared for Unfiltered. I think Rachel is much looser and more entertaining now on her new show. I’m also in the minority because while I hate Springer’s callers because they’re stupid, I think his show provides a valuable service in that he gets progressive viewpoints across to the kind of red state trailer park types that watch his show and vote Republican against their own interest. Everyone else preaches to the choir for the most part. Sam and Randi take calls from conservatives, but they both end up screaming at them. Springer has the patience of Job — he’ll talk to these morons and explain the other side in a way that they can understand.
That said, I would love to see AAR get rid of the Satellite Sisters. These dames represent the same old beef with feminism — that it’s about the problems of white, middle- to upper-class suburban women. Those dames have absolutely NOTHING useful to offer.
I know that AAR thinks it has to be “diverse”, but SS just caters to the WORST stereotype of so-called progressive women.
Whoever longs for a solution [in the Middle east] must know: there is no solution without settling the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. And there is no solution to the Palestinian problem without negotiations with their elected leadership, the government headed by Hamas.
If one wants to finish, once and for all, with this shit – as Bush so delicately put it – that is the only way.
URI AVNERI
I’ve never listened to the Satellite Sisters. WTF. Doesn’t sound like anything I’d like anyway. Agree with all your points on Springer. I haven’t listened to Sam long enough to hear his rudeness I guess. I’d never call Randi’s show out of fear she’d make me look like an idiot. I’d be so nervous I’d stumble all over my words and she’d hang up on me. Then I’d hear her tell everyone what an idiot I am. ALSO, Brilliant I read your post from earlier and how torn you are at what is happening in Lebanon. Israel definitely deserves to live in peace. But I doubt anything can ever be done to end the madness over there.
Isn’t this more than just co existence? Isn’t there a matter of land ownership here? Or am I mistaken? No expert in the problems over there. I understood that the Palestinians claimed certain lands now occupied by Israel. Can there ever be a solution if Israel denies such a claim?
No. They have been fighting over there since Cain smacked Abel upside the head. David against that Philistine Goliath, you know. The hatred is in their blood. All we can do is let them fight it out, and hope it does not spread to our shores.
Seems like every peace treaty signed has failed to address the root cause. Their all just dancing around the thorny issues. Putting it off till the next group of leaders come along. Hoping that things don’t erupt into an all out war. Perhaps we are witnessing a wider conflict. Or maybe the Arab nations are rooting for Israel to rid Lebanon of the trouble makers? I donno. I’m just thinking out loud here. Perhaps I need to keep quite. But that’s a hard thing for someone like me to do.
Hatred is in their blood. It’s meant to be. Biblical prophecy. Don’t try for peace, there will always be war. Don’t try to change anything. Just like we couldn’t end slavery in this country, because that was another thing that was meant to be.
Interesting points to consider there Susan Joy. I cannot argue with slavery still existing in this country. I hate these asshole rich ppl that don’t give a damn about anyone ‘cept their own. I have to admire Bill and Linda Gates and what they are attempting to do. To bad some of the rich sobs on the left don’t try to save our democracy from the clutches of the right wing authoritarians.
UN 242
The Security Council,
Expressing its continuing concern with the grave situation in the Middle East,
Emphasizing the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war and the need to work for a just and lasting peace in which every State in the area can live in security,
Emphasizing further that all Member States in their acceptance of the Charter of the United Nations have undertaken a commitment to act in accordance with Article 2 of the Charter,
Affirms that the fulfillment of Charter principles requires the establishment of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East which should include the application of both the following principles:
Withdrawal of Israeli armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict;
Termination of all claims or states of belligerency and respect for and acknowledgement of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of every State in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force;
Affirms further the necessity
For guaranteeing freedom of navigation through international waterways in the area;
For achieving a just settlement of the refugee problem;
For guaranteeing the territorial inviolability and political independence of every State in the area, through measures including the establishment of demilitarized zones;
Requests the Secretary General to designate a Special Representative to proceed to the Middle East to establish and maintain contacts with the States concerned in order to promote agreement and assist efforts to achieve a peaceful and accepted settlement in accordance with the provisions and principles in this resolution;
Requests the Secretary-General to report to the Security Council on the progress of the efforts of the Special Representative as soon as possible.
I found the text of UN 242 at wikipedia. Although the resolution clearly calls for all nations to return the original [pre-June 1967]borders, the text says that there is uncertainty to the meaning. If you read the war zionist propaganda, you will “discover” that Israel only return “some” of the land seized during the war. Israel returned Sinai to Egypt; therefore…
The right has already had some measure of success at silencing a large slice of dissenters out of fear they may be considers un-American. I have a boss who is a big Bush supporter. Would not be adventageous for me to state my political beliefs to him. Thankfully I rarely see him as I travel for my company and am rarely in the office. I have actually taken my anti Bush stickers off the rear window of my car when I knew I’d be at the office during work hours for fear they’d be some kind of confrontation. I have to work. But this involves more than just a boss. Many would never speak out of a greater fear. That’s what Bush and his thugs have attempted to do. Were Iraq a success this tactic would have surely succeeded. So in a weird way any success in Iraq would serve to bolster Bush’s war on our democracy. I loved it when Putin snapped back at Bush that he would not want for a democracy like Iraq! Bush must have been pissed at that remark.
Wikipedia is misleading in its article on Mumia, too. Special interest groups with totalitarian propaganda arms–like cops– can do a lot to hinder peace and justice.
Wikipedia…you have to be careful with any article of political content and watch for the spin put on the articles. Just like a real encyclopedia I guess.
UN Resolution 194
1.In view of its association with three world religions, the Jerusalem area, including the present municipality of Jerusalem plus the surrounding villages and towns, the most eastern of which shall be Abu Dis; the most southern, Bethlehem, the most western, Ein Karim (including also the built-up area of Motsa); and the most northern Shu’fat, should be accorded special and separate treatment from the rest of Palestine and should be placed under effective United Nations control .
2.The refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbors should be permitted to do so at the earliest practical date, and that compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to return and for loss of or damage to property which, under principles of international law or in equity, should be made good by the Governments or authorities responsible;
3.Resolution instructs the Conciliation Commission to facilitate the repatriation, resettlement and economic and social rehabilitation of the refugees and the payment of compensation, and to maintain close relations with the Director of the United Nations Relief for Palestine Refugees and, through him, with the appropriate organs and agencies of the United Nations.
Wikipedia can be way over the top. Good source of info though.
What would be Bush’s definition of democracy? What would a perfect union look like if Bush had his way? Would there exist a two party system? My mind is all over the place tonight. I want a new drug. Or sex would be nice.
:40::40::fire:
That reminds me of that old Huey Lewis and the News song! I want a new drug. I think I’ll see if that tune is on Itunes. That’s what I’ll do tonight. Download some old music.
Au Naturelle, don’t they produce gay porn flicks? Ha ha, you prolly wouldn’t know about such things huh? Some good ones from what I recall. Maybe I’ll download some porn too.
Bush Democracy: Big Business firmly in charge. Government is there to faciltate the needs of Big Business. Democratic formalities like voting and free speech are tolerated, because such formalities have little effect on Big Business. (They have us by the shorthairs; Bush intends to keep it that way.)
I want a new drug – Huey Lewis and the News does not sound like the original single release. Damn it. Why do they put shit like this out on the internet? I want the one I like. Not some damn remake of the original. Damnit to hell. Good thing they had a preview or I’d really be pissed if I’d paid 99 cents for a remake.
oddly I only like that song when I’m watching “Back to the Future” It goes well with film. Oh wait, that’s “the power of love.” Michael J. Fox on a skateboard was pretty cool. Well, both songs sound pretty much the same …
Okay, Cnick, I heard your future husband, Michael Buble the other day. Very nice. We have a station, here in Phoenix, that plays that kind of stuff which I listen to when Randi does her very poor Bush impression.
I saw Michael in concert a couple of weeks ago. He was wonderful. I’d recommend his second Cd, “It’s Time” to all of you out there. He is great. Go to his site to listen to sample of his music right now, http://www.michaelbuble.com/
You’ll fall in love with him too! Just let this page fully load and you will be treated to his music.
I can’t ignore you. Sorry.
I’d never ignore you NickiRose.
haha
the real secret is melted chocolate….
damn, didn’t catch that one :omg:
I consider Buble to be pilates music….my trainer and friend plays it during pilates class..not really my cuppa tea but OK, I guess….Harry Connick Jr comes to my gym sometimes…now, hes a cutie!…tall and very goofball looking in real life…but he says hi to me, so I like him….its probably just the tallness.
He has a very cute trainer too. A perfectly sculpted tall black guy with cool short dreadlocks…he stares at me….
Buble is too…um…I dont know….short and round in a later sinatra-ish way for me.
Karl Rove is erasing NikiRose’s remarks!
Ahh, don’t speak ill of my future husband! Damnit you’re gonna put me in a bad mood. You’ve never seen Michael in person have you? He’s taller than he looks in pix. He’s not only a good looking man, but he can damn well sing. YES, I like Harry Connick, Jr. also. But Buble is the bestest!
Then there is “Save Me”…from Superman :tongue:pant,
…and I’ve got a “crush” on the Lex on the series:eek:
Susan Joy, if only…:just “wiggle our noses and poof the house is clean. RATS…:knit2:
At least in 1/2hr is Mystery and more Agatha (my middle C.:priest: name…ahhh another “weak joke :rofl2:
Druid you keep me so confused!
Im not speaking ill of Buble…he just has a place in my life and I guess its not up there with Elvis Costello, the Pretenders, Old Springsteen, Tome Petty, and….Steve Earle!…Im more of a rock chick and quite a bit older than you, I’m sure…but Buble has his place in my life. Just dont say that you like Bolton or Celine Dion, OK?
Ok I won’t say it
No I do not care for either really.
Druid-is that a Bewitched reference or is it Cinderella?
I am going to buy a jar of Ovaltine, now.
I like lots of different types of music. Not so much country though. I like Depeche Mode, Erasure, Kim English, Anastacia, Johnny Rivers, CCR, Chicago. And I love classical also, Gustav Mahler, Beethoven, Schubert, Stravinski. All over the map really.
I thought Buble was pronounced “Booble” until I heard it on the radio.
Yeah it took me awhile to get the pronunciation right too. But since I plan on taking his name when we’re married I had to get it right. Mr. and Mr. Buble. (boob-lay)
Nicki, I bought Ovaltine! I’m at an age when I need more calcium, and there’s only so much cottage cheese and yogurt one can eat. And I hate milk by itself. So as much as I hated myself for doing it, I bought Ovaltine, figuring it at least has some nutritional value. And damn it if the stuff isn’t fantastic. It’s very chocolatey, you don’t need much of it in a 10-oz. glass of milk, and it tastes great. I put it in my morning breakfast smoothie, in my coffee, in milk.
Of course tomorrow I don’t put it in anything because I have to do prep for That Awful Procedure You Have to Have Done When You Turn 50. :paranoid::omg::yuck::roll::blech:
Hey, Melina — did you happen to see Classic in Concert on VH1 last night? It was the Decades series, with Elvis Costello and guests Fiona Apple (:barf:), Death Cab for Cutie, and Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day. Try to see if you can catch it again….or if you want a VHS tape let me know.
And, yes I am ignoring NickiRose, :rofl2:
(just “playing”)
Susan Joy, “Bewitched”
but I do feel a bit Cinde… with the housework (kinda) since I only do “just enough” to get by …
…and did ya ever get Hilde…?
cnickthomas, re 194, I REALLY have a bit of WEIRD Wit — Most say I do not have humour so,
Is that a joke or is it not…Either way I answer anything 😉
…but I know, I confuse since…it is cuz I think LEX is 8) 😉
Hey, cnick, I’ve heard people do podcasts with calls using skype. Never tried recording a skype call, but at the very least you should be able to take the line out on one computer and record/play it. Be fun to try. In fact, we could all try a group call one of these nights (becomes a bit confusing with too many people, but with a few, it sholdn’t be bad. Maybe we could get Jim or Marc to call in.
RE 198 IT WAS FROM
M E L I N A  see 205 for answer …Sorry Susan Joy  😉
I don’t know Buble, but Harry Connick Jr. is OK. I like Lyle Lovett a lot (I am trying to train my hair to do what his does, but I don’t think I have what it takes).
Druid its cool . . . I love everybody here . . . but I’m saving the last dance for Michael Buble. HEY, thanks Pj. I’ll check it out. YES, would be cool to do a call in. Let me do a bit of in-vest-i-gating.
BTW, I just got back from seeing the Electric Car movie. Very good, well done, and a damn shame. Looks like the plug-in hybrids will be with us before too long, though (once again, the Japanese will blow the US carmakers away).
Hey, Furio from the Sopranos is on this SciFi Channel movie. He sounds funny w/o out a fake Italian accent (and no ponytail).
Oh, sweet, sweet a/c. Down to 80 degrees in the room. It’a a chilled water fancoil unit, only good for putting out about 10 – 15 degrees below room temp (especially with all this humidity), but there’s a chance I might get some sleep tonight! Yay!
pjsauter re 209 :rofl2:
cnickthomas re 210 FINE = a joke = an anachronism = :wink::love:
Brill, I totally forgot about that concert…and I love Armstrong too….Ill look at the new TV guide and see if its replayed. If I can get it on the computer I can post it…ha!….if I can get anything to work at all!
PJ-did you see the electric car featured on huffpo today…its just amatter of time. a $100,000 car that can go 130 silently and go 0-60 in no time flat…that is completely electric.
My father says that there will be a big pollution problem in battery disposal when these things take off.
Has to be better than ruining the air and soil and economy and…war!!
And couldnt we shoot batteries into space or something?
PJ- maybe you shouldt have gotten that thermometer…downt it make it worse to quantify things?
Oh I love Lyle Lovett!! Since his first record Ivce been a rabid fan. He is great live because he is really funny and tells great stories.
Furio is really a painter in life…fell into acting but is actually an artist with a gallery etc…and from italy originally too…
if Im thinking of the same guy…the one who carmella fell for? (you’d think she wouldve looked him up when she was in europe. Didnt he go back to italy in the show?
oh Brill- are you getting scoped on MOnday?
I hear that the clean out is worse than the procedure, but Ive taken my Mom and sister already and since they checked out Ok and I had it done 10 or so years ago for a problem, I can wait another 10 years!! And by then, they may have a better test!! Yay!!
Hang in there girl….it’ll be good to get it over with, and you’ll have a nice fast.
I want to call all the AAR advertisers and tell them that I am boycotting their product because Marc is gone….and was really gonna fly out to Dr Chesty’s plastic surgery party!!…not!
Is anyone watching the Miami Vice that they have on? Its the pilot of the original and the preview clips of the movie…I love Miami vice…and the new one looks good.
I’m an HVAC guy, so I need to know supply and return temps to know what’s going on (really helps when you call with a complaint, too, if they know you can’t be bullshat). Plus, I’m apparently too fucking analytical.
Didn’t see the Times, but I saw on TechTv a looong time ago the new performance cars that use basically a shitload of laptop batteries. Very lightweight. Mch can be recycled, and anyway it all amonts to a lot less than burning gasoline. Plug-in hybrid get 80 – 100 MPG on the first 60 – 80 miles driven (avg person drives 29 miles per day).
My dad said the worst part of having to get a colonoscopy was the cleanout. Of course, had he not gone to a doctor in the first place, he wouldn’t have needed the colonoscopy, because they wouldn’t have irradiated him for the porstate canncer that he would’ve lived with, with a much (much) higher quality of life, than the two miserable years he got. Oh, but he didn’t die of prostate cancer. As for me, I choose to stay way the hell away from the “system,” and I refuse to get caught up in it.
I totally agree PJ-
I keep getting pressured about getting my mams gramed.
I just wonder about the radiation.
Not now while I’m sittingin front of the’puter of course.
It is friggin’ hot here too. I keep thinking travis dem is just a little Alaskan puddle in some basement somewhere:tongue:
Susan Joy, “Bewitched”
but I do feel a bit Cinde… with the housework (kinda) since I only do “just enough” to get by 😮 …
…and did ya ever get Hilde…?
housework? I need a spell for that. Things around here don’t clean up by themselves, dammit. I still have to get Hilde, thanks for reminding me actually. Thanks, Druid
Yeah, my wife (the nurse) has very strong feelings about all that kinda stuff – especially the mammogram thing. And I saw what happened to my mom and dad when they got caught up in the medical/pharmacetical industrial complex, and I saw that our system has nothing to do with healing. You drive into a bridge abutment and they can scrape you up, then they can do wonders, no doubt about it. Or get shot, stabbed, whatever – they’re great with trauma. But healing? That’s outside of what western medicine and science is actually good at.
sblurfox-geth the mams grammed regularly…its saved quite a few people who I know and they are watching this ongoing thing in me…its just so easy to find this thing and so many get it…and its not much worse than slamming your boob in a refrigerator door a few times! I swear, the mamgram is worse than the needle!…but the MRI is a real pain in the ass…er…boobs…because you have to lay face down on the camera thing with your boobs through holes hanging down, but the circles are very hard because they are the camera so have little padding…then they IV you and raise your arms over your head, and THEN they put you in the tube for half an hour or so telling you not to move…really uncomfortable and damned if I dont have to have another one in a couple of weeks.
And I blame Danny Goldfuck for taking my MS to listen to on my pod while inside the tube…though I cant remember if they ultimately let me listen or not…maybe it had too much metal in it….
They have a CD player in the room so I have to burn CDs, thats right!
Do your tests everyone!
PJ, IM sure that your dad went through the treatment in the hopes of getting a few more years of high quality life…so hopefully he felt like he tried anyway. How can you know at the beginning what you’ll get and if its worth it…?
Just too bad that he had to suffer. But you should get the scope …if you do that early enough then they just snip it off anyway….The whole idea is to catch these things so early that theyre nothing.
The later treatment is what you need to be careful of, not the early tests!
Hey suz- the best thing Ive ever bought is the roomba scheduler. Its a little vacume that docks on its charger and every morning at 10AM it turns itself on and vacumes all over the main floor of the house, over door jambs and under everything for like an hour. I just have to empty its little cup every day or two. Its a little miracle…not perfect, but it really makes a difference!
I also have the scooba and I LOVE that, but y ou have to set that up and then clean it out every time…still worth it…but what a difference it makes to have this little thing drive around and either vacume or scrub the floors while I do other things!
a roomba scheduler is the best gift anyone could give anyone! Its changed my life!
OK guys…sat nite live sux but sometimes the openeing is OK…foo fighters is on as musical guest…Im out…
have to go to city tomorrow for origami meeting and to take grandpa shopping…wish I could just sleep….
PJ- I love your countdown days left in DC….
will look forward to the bobblehead thread tomorrow…
nite all!
The problem is that the system doesn’t tell you the truth, and doesn’t give you any options.
They present everything as if that’s all there is. Just like the system tells you that there’s no better way than the internal combustion engine. There is, of course, but the system doesn’t make any money the other way.
In my dad’s case, it turns out that prostate cancer is extemely slow developing, and for somebody in their 70’s, it would have been much better to have just monitored things, and done absolutely fucking nothing. Even if something needed to have been done, there were many alternatives that we just didn’t know about and that weren’t presented. Because the cookbook says this, so you do that. Period. And there are a lot of people that make a lot of money off of how things are, so that’s how it’s done.
And of course you’ll hear about somebody’s Aunt Clara, who would have been saved a horrible death had she only gone and had a camera stuck up her ass. Just like you’ll hear how Aunt Edna smoked twelve packs of cigarettes a day and lived to be 100, or Uncle Arthur didn’t wear a seat belt, and walked away from that head-on collision. But you won’t hear about all the people who suffered an undignified and horrible death because they put their faith in modern medicine.
So you get caught up in the system. It’s really just another religion, and you just accept their shit on faith. So they give you this, but it fucks up that, so they give you that, but then that fucks up something else, and on and on it goes, until you’re taking a twenty pills a day, and everybody makes a nice tidy profit off of it. And you don’t dare not do what they say, because, by golly you’ll die, and there’s nothing worse than that, right? Except there is, but they’ve got you so full of fear you don’t realize it. So you get sucked along into the system, and very quickly you’ve surrendered your humanity to the system, in the desperate hope that you won’t die. But you will. We all do. But beofre you do, you find out there are, indeed, worse things.
Okay, JK Audio has some interesting options in regard to recording telephone interviews for broadcast. Take a look when you have time PJ. Go here, http://www.jkaudio.com/ Tell me what you think tomorrow when I’m online. Hope you have a more comfortable night tonight man. Cheers
Meanwhile, back in the Pine Barrens, the Outward Bound experience is not going well for Paulie and Christopher. They still haven’t found Valery – dead or alive – or the car. They spend the night in an abandoned van, dining on ketchup packets and blaming each other for their predicament. Fortunately the next morning Tony and Bobby Baccala locate their half-frozen comrades and head back to civilization. On the way, Tony lets Paulie know the consequences of his sloppiness: “Let’s be clear on this right now…he’s your problem, not mine…you take the heat…you pay the price.” Paulie considers, then replies, “Fine.”
Worst part is, Paulie and Sil haven’t signed on for the final 8 episodes yet.
I still think that the Russian Commando is going to re-surface.
Well, they certainly left the door open – it would be a shame to waste it.
Twisted Sister formed in Manhattan in 1973; Snider joined three years later. The band, which also includes guitarists Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda, bassist Mark Mendoza, and drummer A.J. Pero, worked the club scene for more than a decade before achieving breakthrough commercial success in 1984. The teen rebellion anthems “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock” became MTV staples, and the band’s album, “Stay Hungry,” sold more than 2 million copies.
After two follow-up albums flopped, Twisted Sister broke up in 1987. Snider, the band’s lyricist, said he had become a victim of his own success.
:rabbi:
You said it PJ. I’m glad I was raised by a mother who hates doctors.
:alc:
Turn it down you say
But all I got to say to you is time and time again I say No!
No! No! No!
Tell me not to play
Well, all I got to say to when you tell me not to play I say No!
No! No! No!
So, if you ask me why I like the way I play it
There’s only one thing I can say to you
I wanna rock. rock, rock all through
the night
I wanna roll and blow like dynamite.
Rock and roll is here to stay
I’m gonna rock and roll you …
:rabbi:
like a hurricane I suppose? Speaking of Dee Snider I think I captured his sneer
Rock stars get the big spotlight
Rock stars get the easy life.
Rock stars get all the babes
Rock stars got it made in the shade
…
I think it’s time I made a change
Rock and roll is in my veins.
Dee Snider is in your panel?
:omg:
in a thought bubble …someone is thinking about him
It’s still 108 degrees here at 9:40 PM! :omg:
Portland has cooled down considerably. Yesterday was Arizona hot here; today was not so bad.
I send you both cool breezes of air
It got to 118 yesterday and everytime I went out to the truck to get something, every single thing was as hot as a branding iron. It was so fucking brutal, there were NO trees out there at all, at all.
I think 108 was the high yesterday. Stayed SW hot late into the night. Saturday reached 100, or so. Has cooled down. Hotter inside than out. Trees here.
What is the name of the river that separates NJ from Philadelphia? (I need some boilerplate.)
Delaware River
Delaware River above the Delaware Water Gap
Origin Mount Jefferson
Mouth Delaware Bay
Basin countries USA
Length 360 miles (579 km)
Source elevation 1,886 feet (575 m)
Avg. discharge 11,550 cubic feet/sec (330 m?/sec)
Basin area 14,119 square miles (35,297 km?)
The Delaware River is a river on the Atlantic coast of the United States. The Delaware was
I’m pretty sure it’s the Delaware River. Double checking now
yep
Boilerplate was a mechanical man developed by Professor Archibald Campion during the 1880s and unveiled at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition.
Built in a small Chicago laboratory, Boilerplate was originally designed as a prototype soldier for use in resolving the conflicts of nations. Although it was the only such prototype, Boilerplate was eventually able to exercise its proposed function by participating in several combat actions.
In the mid-1890s, Boilerplate embarked on a series of expeditions to demonstrate its abilities, the most ambitious being a voyage to Antarctica. In 1901, to celebrate the new century, Boilerplate circumnavigated the globe in what turned out to be a failed publicity attempt to garner interest in its industrial applications.
Boilerplate is one of history’s great ironies, a technological milestone that remains largely unknown. Even in an age that gave birth to the automobile and aeroplane, a functioning mechanical man should have been accorded more significance.
the Delaware Water Gap is further north of Philadelphia. You cross it going west from route 80 from the city and end up in the Poconons
I had no idea Boilerplate was a mechanical man…
The waterway that borders Philly and NJ. I have a map; no name of water body. I assume it is the Delaware. Delaware Valley is a region just south of Philly.
It is the Delaware. I think the Ben Franklin bridge is the bridge I remember going over to get into Philly
Delaware absolutely.
In a work of fiction.
fiction can become real 🙂
Hey, sbluefox —
Re # 220
“I keep getting pressured about getting my mams gramed.” Tell them to keep their damn grams off your mams :growl: — follow the money and see who’s making the big bucks off those fear mongering torture machines:spank::rant1:. I have never believed that mammograms save lives – what simplistic propaganda:rant1:.
I would never discourage anyone from having mammograms if they choose to do so because they feel that they are being proactive about their health. 😯 Those kinds of decisions are personal choice. Nor do I foist my opinion about this particular medical scam on women (only my hmble opinion  — I don’t believe the manipulated statistics about how many lives mammograms save:roll::crap:, particularly where there is plenty of $$$$ to be made as there is in women’s health and fear of cancer). I encourage anyone to ask their doctors questions about their particular health situations and do their own research about whatever conditions they have and direct them to information resources wherever I can. I also try to plant the seed of choice:P — I tell them they are allowed to say they want to think about treatments and procedures or want more information before consenting and don’t have to feel pressured into accepting treatments just because:omg:, especially if they don’t feel informed enough to give consent. There’s also a big difference between treatment and healing which is a constant topic of discussion:nod:. Doctors aren’t generally healers anymore — they have devolved into diagnosticians with a cookbook for treatment modalities:jason:. Well, enough about this — I’m too tired to go on and I could go on for FAR too long about this stuff:smack:
and #222 & 227 (right on PJ baby)
I hate living a double life in a sense because I don’t believe in the system I work in 🙁 and have to be very diplomatic because I need a job and worked very hard to get the credentials I have, so I’m not ready to ditch the system altogether.:sammy: But dammit, it’s hard to be an agent of change in a totally :fu: “health care”:growl: :smack: system

Here is Goff’s article on Zionism and Palestine that malloy drew from last week. (I’ll net it has already been posted here.)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/stan-goff/the-pword_b_25144.html.)
Robin C. Miller’s book The Media’s Middle East Rules of Engagement is a good primer on how this works, listing ten “rules” that are scrupulously followed and giving examples of each. It can be found at http://www.robincmiller.com/pales8.htm. The outline is:
Rule 1: See the Middle East through Israeli eyes.
Rule 2: Treat American and Israeli governmental statements as hard news.
Rule 3: Ignore the historical context.
Rule 4: Avoid the fundamental legal and moral issues posed by the Israeli occupation.
Rule 5: Suppress or minimize news unfavorable to the Israelis.
Rule 6: Muddy the waters when necessary.
Rule 7: Credit all Israeli claims, even if wholly unfounded.
Rule 8: Doubt all Palestinian assertions, no matter how self-evident.
Rule 9: Condemn only Palestinian violence.
Rule 10: Disparage the international consensus supporting Palestinian rights.
There is an eleventh rule that hovers over all the other rules. Equate anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism. This shuts everyone up. That’s why it is so critically important that this Eleventh Rule be challenged loudly and clearly and frequently. Anti-Zionism is NOT anti-Semitism. Zionism is not Judaism. Not all Jews are Zionists, and not all Zionists are Jews. The point is that Zionism raises many questions about what constitutes Jewishness.
STAN GOFF
PJ and RG- Wow thanks so much- I couldn’t agree with you more.
What do you think when a court orders cancer treatments for a minor when the parents are providing alternative treatments?
I saw a blip on the news about a teenager who was going into the hospital escorted by the police.
I don’t know enough about the situation to comment I guess but it seems so bizarre to me that our choices are being taken away- like my compounding pharmacy that provides me with my bioidentical hormone treatment is possibly being shut down by Wyeth.
I go to an MD who has naturopath leanings (when I go) but mostly I stay away.
Again thank you for this. I must catch up with the other conversations as I have been away most of the day!

I’m so glad you brought this up. It really tires me. I’m Jewish by heritage (though a practicing neopagan) and I weary of the “all Jewish people feel something toward Israel” meme. I never felt anything toward Israel – either positive or negative. Not a damn thing.
Just another country in the world to me, in fact, so the lack of emotional connection allows me to view the whole thing in what I consider a logical, nonemotional light. It’s really rough talking about the topic with other Jews though, because all logical discussion ceases and I get prophecy or mystical talk about “what it means to all of us” (these are from the nicer people) or talk of my “obligation” as if I signed some kind of contract to have a certain viewpoint when I was born. It’s also rough talking about many non Jews who know of my heritage because they have expectations about me and are either too scared to bring the topic up, or deal with me based on assumptions.
Anti Zionism is NOT Anti Semitism. It’s being against a certain political idea, not against a group of people. Although I agree with other posters here that at this point Israel itself (sans occupied territories) has the right to exist and that it would a bad thing to take apart the entire nation, I am ideologically opposed to the idea of any nation that is formed for “one group of people only.” I think it’s unhealthy, paranoid, and clannish and conjures the image of people standing with a sword out and their backs to a wall. This idea is bad even if the people do not remove other people from the land they plan on occupying, but when they plan to supplant those who already live somewhere the idea is beyond bad, it’s ethically and morally abhorent. There’s more I can say on the topic, but I think that’s all I’ll say for now.
