Here we go, only two nights left in DC. I hate to leave, of course, but my wife misses me, so what can I do?
If you’re out there in the vicinity of Irvine CA, guess what? You have another chance to get over to see Marc at the Improv tonight, at 8:00. Be there or be, uh, elsewhere.
Not only is it hot (85 degrees at 4:45 AM), but it’s also a “Code Red” day, which means you should try not to breathe the air. I’m really gonna miss it here.
Have a good one.
BTW, if anybody’s in the market for a new monitor, this 19″ Widescreen one for $179.99 at TigerDirect (no rebates to mess with) is worth taking a look at.

A United States federal yesterday posted online nearly all of the evidence in the sentencing portion of the trial of convicted 9/11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui, RAW STORY has learned.
All totalled, just 7 of the 1,202 exhibits introduced in the case are now under seal. Among those are the voice recording from United Flight 93, which crashed before hitting its target, into a Pennsylvania field. A transcript of the tape, however, was released during the trial.
What has been released, according to sources, are photographs of victim remains, and other 9-1-1 calls. Videos are purported–though RAW STORY could not, as of the time of publication, verify–to show victims leaping from windows of the World Trade Center.
Due to a high volume of traffic, RAW STORY has been unable to review the tapes released. We plan to make the more relevant videos available through RAW STORY in the coming days.
We are able to make available, however, the full list of evidence released, complete with links to the files at the federal court’s website. That list may be viewed

Panel Suspected Deception by Pentagon
Allegations Brought to Inspectors General
By Dan Eggen
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, August 2, 2006; Page A03
Some staff members and commissioners of the Sept. 11 panel concluded that the Pentagon’s initial story of how it reacted to the 2001 terrorist attacks may have been part of a deliberate effort to mislead the commission and the public rather than a reflection of the fog of events on that day, according to sources involved in the debate.
Suspicion of wrongdoing ran so deep that the 10-member commission, in a secret meeting at the end of its tenure in summer 2004, debated referring the matter to the Justice Department for criminal investigation, according to several commission sources. Staff members and some commissioners thought that e-mails and other evidence provided enough probable cause to believe that military and aviation officials violated the law by making false statements to Congress and to the commission, hoping to hide the bungled response to the hijackings, these sources said.
In the end, the panel agreed to a compromise, turning over the allegations to the inspectors general for the Defense and Transportation departments, who can make criminal referrals if they believe they are warranted, officials said.
“We to this day don’t know why NORAD told us what they told us,” said Thomas H. Kean, the former New Jersey Republican governor who led the commission. “It was just so far from the truth. . . . It’s one of those loose ends that never got tied.”

Ghoulish Cuban Fascists in Miami Await a “Free” Cuba
CNN showed the exiles in Miami dancing and celebrating over the news of Fidel Castro’s declining health. Very typical of right-wing ghouls to be gleeful about death. The ‘reporter’ was beaming, unable to conceal her smirk. The ‘liberal media’ at its finest.
One of the sorry losers, while temporarily removing his lips from our taxpayers’ teats (and basking in the benevolent immigration laws concerning Cubans), stated that he can’t wait until Cuba is “free”.
The problem with that statement is, I fear that his and the other exiles’ definitions of “freedom” are similar to Bush’s.
He assumes too much. The fate of Cuba without Castro is unknown, and although I for one would be glad to deport these sorry sonsofbitches back to SOMEWHERE, I am not exactly eager for them to return to Cuba, so that they can attempt whatever power, resource, and land grab for which they surely feel an exaggerated sense of entitlement (America is a good place to learn a disproportionate sense of entitlement).
Cuban exile definitions of “freedom” include, but are not limited to:
The freedom to exploit others, especially the poor. Or to push others living within their means into poverty.
The freedom to turn your country into a playground for multinationals. After all, the New Cuba will need someone to work the farms, factories, warehouses, refineries, and casinos. The middle class and poor will become a permanent underclass.
The freedom to privatize the hell out of everything to the point that the rewards will go to the exiles and their cronies. This is the freedom to create a Halliburton-style economy, which would no doubt be financed by the U.S taxpayers.
The freedom to destroy their healthcare and educational systems, so it will place profits before people.
The freedom to alter the infrastructure to ignore housing needs, but build plenty of casinos and resorts.
The freedom to indulge in unlimited corruption, including the payoffs to local judges, the press, and government representatives.
Hell, considering those definitions, why not just stay in America?
The exiles are one export Cuba will not need, as it faces a new era, whether under Raul Castro, or otherwise. Their celebrating is not only ghoulish, but possibly very premature. Instead of celebrating, they should consider the very real consequences of trying to remake Cuba in the image of Little Havana, Florida. But like the Americans they have become, they have deluded themselves into thinking consequences are for other people. So dance on, fuckers. You will get yours someday too. I will refrain from dancing however, when you do… I wish to retain my humanity, thank you.

Hezbollah guerrillas fired a massive barrage of at least 84 rockets at towns across northern Israel, wounding at least seven people and setting off fires, rescue services said. Rockets shrieked across the border leaving trails in the air and smashing into cities and towns destroying buildings and setting fires. Rockets hit the cities of Tiberias, Maalot, Kiryat Shemona, Carmiel, Rosh Pina and Safed, said police spokesman Avi Zelba. At least seven people were lightly wounded in the attacks, rescue workers said.

This shit is all over the news even in this market, so it must be nonstop in Miami. I don’t have any great love for Fidel, but it would seem to be poetic justice if he would recover from the surgery and resume rule for another ten years or so. Just long enough to piss these assholes off.
Of course, if this were happening to Bush, I’d be out in the streets too. Except that Cheney would be in charge, so it’s possible that all of us would be in prison instead.
:fu::fu::fu:
The big boss from Texas (no, not Bush) is paying us a visit today. Hopefully he won’t come back to my cube and ask about all the ACLU and Amnesty International stuff on my walls. Not to mention the toilet paper with Dubya’s picture on it. (Unused, just for the record.)
Six days till Joe-mentum dies. (Hi Melina!)

Well, Castro seems to be recovering, but even if he croaks, he’s been through, what, about nine US presidents? And outlived five of them (so far)? But maybe if he dies, Tony Sporano can move down there from Jersey.
Tony Sporano? New guy on the block?
Did I hear 3000 US soldiers have died in Iraq? ❓
Can someone set me right on this one?
fred, the vanity fair article you posted (#5) about the 911 norad tapes is absolutely riveting. bush and cheney look so bad. the author did a good job of understating their lies and stupidity and cowardice so that the reader is just stunned with what dolts we have for prez and vice prez. after reading the article, i have a lot of sympathy for the norad folks, just as randi did in her show yesterday. they were working with outdated equipment; american airlines and the faa screwed up unbelievably. norad had to watch cnn to know what was going on! everything in the vanity fair article fits well with what randi and her callers with military experience talked about in her show yesterday. thanks for the post.

Here’s a link to an article about the new military tribunal rules proposed by Bush Inc.http://www.rinf.com/columnists/news/bush-submits-new-terror-detainee-bill
So Bush got a clean bill of health on his annual physical.(But he gained weight. Horrors. Time for the old laxative omlette.) Does anyone here believe this crap? :rofl2: Every time the man opens his mouth, it is clear that he is seriously impaired in some way. Either he is :40: again or snorting coke :bong: (no nose-candy emoticon) or both; or he is on meds to control whatever is wrong with him psychologically. He stumbled on the Air Force One steps the other day and made a quite bizarre face as he caught himself. (Of course, we all take a spill now and then, and I am a terrible klutz, but this clown has a hard time staying upright.) He obviously has a lot of mental problems. That blank, empty, affectless look on his face when he was playing masseur to Merkel really creeped me out. (Of course, he his face often looks blank, empty, affectless, and his beady eyes are likewise empty. Either that or he is making angry, snarly faces and poking his finger at his listeners.)
The NYTimes report on the physical crowed about how open and honest presidential health reports are today compared with those in past decades. I say BS.
:omg:WASHINGTON — U.S. citizens suspected of terror ties might be detained indefinitely and barred from access to civilian courts under legislation proposed by the Bush administration, say legal experts reviewing an early version of the bill.
A 32-page draft measure is intended to authorize the Pentagon’s tribunal system, established shortly after the 2001 terrorist attacks to detain and prosecute detainees captured in the War on terror. The tribunal system was thrown out last month by the Supreme Court.
snip
According to the draft, the military would be allowed to detain all “enemy combatants” until hostilities cease. The bill defines enemy combatants as anyone “engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners who has committed an act that violates the law of War and this statute.”
Legal experts said Friday that such language is dangerously broad and could authorize the military to detain indefinitely U.S. citizens who had only tenuous ties to terror networks like al Qaeda.
“That’s the big question … the definition of who can be detained,” said Martin Lederman, a law professor at Georgetown University who posted a copy of the bill to a Web blog.

Tell Your Senators to Vote NO – Reason 2
You are badly needed to tell your Senators to VOTE NO on H.R. 5970, the bill to slash the estate tax, cut other taxes, and raise the minimum wage. It’s expected to come up this FRIDAY.
Call toll-free: 800-459-1887. Call twice – to reach each senator:
Reason 2:
The minimum wage section actually slashes the wages of about a million workers who rely on tips.
(See fact sheet, The Sneak Attack on Restaurant Workers, Parking Attendants, Hotel Maids, and Other Workers Whom Depend on Tips, at http://www.chn.org/pdf/2006/TheSneakAttackonRestaurantW… )
Note the winners and losers:
Losers: For example, restaurant servers in Washington state would see their minimum wage drop from $7.63 to $2.13 an hour – a loss of over $10,400 a year if they work full time!
Winners: Restaurant owners who won’t pay that $10,400 per employee.
Refresher course on Reason 1:
H.R. 5970’s reason for being is to slash the estate tax by over $750 billion.
Without those billions, the federal deficit will deepen, health care, education, and other vital services will shrink even more, and people who are not multimillionaire heirs will pay more. We cannot afford this excessive cost.
Your silence means that services will be cut more deeply and a million low-paid workers will get a massive pay cut, so 8,200 multimillionaire families can get hundreds of billions, paid for with money borrowed from our children and grandchildren.
So please call! This will be a very close vote.
Here’s the suggested message to deliver when you call toll-free (800-459-1887):
Vote NO on H.R. 5970, the cynical ploy to slash the estate tax. This bill outrageously ties a long-overdue increase in the minimum wage to enriching multimillionaire heirs by hundreds of billions of dollars. Reject this blackmail and simply raise the minimum wage to $7.25 – and don’t force states to cut the pay of workers who depend on tips.
Please forward this message to your networks, friends – anyone who doesn’t like cynical ploys and sneak attacks.

A freelance journalist and political activist was sent to federal prison Tuesday and could be held for nearly a year after refusing a grand jury’s demand that he turn over unaired videotapes of a 2005 anarchist demonstration in which protesters clashed with San Francisco police.
U.S. District Judge William Alsup found Josh Wolf, 24, of San Francisco in contempt of court for failing to comply with a subpoena that the federal grand jury issued Feb. 1. Alsup rejected Wolf’s claim that a reporter has a right to withhold unpublished material, and he said federal prosecutors were seeking the videos for a legitimate investigation into a possible crime — the attempted burning of a San Francisco police car.
“Every person, from the president of the United States down to you and me, has to give information to the grand jury if the grand jury wants it,” the judge said at the end of a 2 1/2-hour hearing in federal court in San Francisco.
Wolf and his lawyers contend that federal authorities are less interested in the alleged arson than they are in disrupting the legitimate political activities of anarchist groups. Forcing Wolf to turn over his videotapes is a way of keeping the media from reporting dissidents’ point of view, they said.
Unless a journalist’s right to withhold unpublished and unaired material is recognized, “we’re not going to have Mr. Wolf or any reporters covering protests,” attorney Jose Luis Fuentes told Alsup. “Confidential sources are not going to come forward. They (journalists) are going to be viewed as investigative arms of the government.”

Jewish shops in Rome defaced with swastikas
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
ROME
Jewish shops across Rome were vandalized and defaced with swastikas in an apparent neo-fascist attack linked to fighting in the Middle East, officials said Wednesday.
Owners of about 20 shops in the center and outskirts of the Italian capital reached their workplace Tuesday morning to find door locks filled with glue, shutters nailed closed and swastikas defacing nearby walls, said Riccardo Pacifici, a spokesman for Rome’s Jewish Community.
Although not all the shops targeted were owned by Jews, the raid was apparently conducted in reaction to hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas, Pacifici said.
Flyers signed by a group calling itself Armed Revolutionary Fascists were left at the shops denouncing “the Zionist economy” and including pro-Hizbullah slogans, Pacifici said.

Pope Benedict XVI issued an impassioned call Wednesday for an immediate cease-fire in the Middle East, saying “nothing can justify the spilling of innocent blood.”
Clenching his fist and his voice filled with emotion, Benedict said: “Our eyes are filled with the chilling images of torn bodies of so many people, especially children – I am thinking in particular of Qana.”
Benedict was referring to the Israeli attack Sunday in the southern Lebanese town of Qana that killed 56 civilians, mostly women and children.
It was the latest in a half-dozen peace appeals by the pope that have consistently included calls for an immediate cease-fire. He has spoken out on every public occasion since the fighting began three weeks ago, reminiscent of his predecessor, Pope John Paul II, who became a rallying point for critics of the Iraq war.

Islamic Movement: Prevent Jewish groups from visiting Temple Mount on Thursday
By Yoav Stern, Haaretz Correspondent
The Islamic Movement warned Wednesday against the possibility that Jewish groups would try to reach the Temple Mount on Thursday (The Ninth of Av) and damage the Al Aqsa Mosque.
The group’s warning follows a Supreme Court decision made earlier this week, ordering police to allow whoever wants to visit the Temple Mount during regular visiting hours on the Ninth of Av.
Two MKs from the Islamic Movement, Sheikh Ibrahim Sarsur (Ra’am-Ta’al) and Sheikh Abbas Zkoor (Ra’am-Ta’al) sent an urgent letter to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, requesting that the government prevent members of the Temple Mount Faithful from reaching the area outside the Al Aqsa Mosque.

Hey all, Sorry for the outburst yesterday, my posts weren’t showing on the computer I was on.
I was listening to Franken in the car earlier and he was talking about how the Isrealis have every right to defend themselves and how they don’t revel in the deaths of civilians like Hezbollah does. Well, I immediately thought of that photo someone posted here last week of the Isreali children signing the missiles, “with love”. I would LOVE to email that one to Al. If the Jews and the Arabs were kids fighting in a school yard and I was the teacher, I’d drag them both by their ears to the principals office. How can anyone justify killing so many civilians anytime, anywhere.Civilians need to band together against governments all over the world! :fist:
As I listened to Franken, his arguments seemed half hearted to me like either he was getting A LOT of criticism for his position and was maybe not so sure himself.
Okay, so, my friend lent me his computer he wasn’t using but I have to get a different wireless card which is gonna cost me $70 which I don’t have right now. I can go $30-$40 but not $70. Computer crap is so over priced. I think we’re being gouged.
Hey y’all, especially Travis, KP, and FK. For some reason you guys got caught up in the spam filter. I have no idea why. On the bright side, once de-spammed, you hopefully won’t get caught up in there again. This is a third-party spam catcher that’s been in place since the upgrade I did back before I came to DC, so it’s been in place for close to three months now. Why you guys got caught in it now, all of a sudden I don’t know. If you recall, Old Zeb got caught up in it not that long ago. It even caught me the other day.
If I hadn’t been so goddamn busy the last couple of days, I’d have gotten to it sooner.
Anyhow, that’s what’s up with that.
I don’t know if the Western Europeans are afraid of the US militarily or economically. The US doing something militarily to Europe if they intervened militarily in the middle east would probably cause at best both EU and the US stock markets to collapse..France might get ticked off and blow parts of the US off the map. On the other hand if the US continues with this preemptive war thing they will eventually have to confront us. The joke has been that for the last 40 years when the Europeans needed something of a military nature to happen they called DC but this time the Europeans called 1-800-PNT-AGON and found that the number had been disconnected leaving them very confused.:rant1:

ALL ACCESS hears that the deal is for five years.”We are excited about our new affiliation and the platform this move will establish for AIR AMERICA in the years ahead,” said AIR AMERICA acting CEO JIM WIGGETT. “We look forward to forming a long term and strong relationship with ACCESS.1 COMMUNICATIONS.” “We are thrilled about our new partnership with AIR AMERICA,” added ACCESS. 1 Pres. & COO CHESLEY MADDOX-DORSEY. “It is important that we partner in offering the nation’s largest radio market a strong, progressive voice.”For now, WLIB-A’s programming future remain uncertain, and exactly which hours will be covered by AAR programming is also unclear, although ALL ACCESS hears that morning drive may not be included in the arrangement.

Okay, I gotta go for now but I’ll be back later maybe.
PJ loves to be extended :lol:
:paranoid:hey they all worked weird

I know a couple of guys in the National Guard who didn’t like to be extended at all.:yuck:
So when is Sean going to be in Denver.. which way are you getting here. from the North or from the West.??
tomorrow fuck why does the blog hate me!
Extended? What kind of vile smut is this?
No more jokes about private parts will be tolerated. Holy Joe will hear about this, i assure you.
Jeesh, what if randi’s right, and norad was part of a 911 plot? what kind of demented psychos would plot this kind of thing? what would their motivation be? sorry, i vote for incompetence, and then good old fashioned, cover your ass. As a new yorker, i fully understand this concept.
I don’t care what they say, i won’t live in a world without love.
:omg:i have been banned or something!
😕 fuc k you!
Got Moxie (Original Elixir)?:omg:
Yeeha Travis How about a donut report? I think the lemon poppy seed donuts are good but not if you have to take a drug test er something.
I think in honor of your recent passage into the wonderful world of drinking you should rent- Trees Lounge, Come Back Little Sheba, Days of Wine and Roses and Leaving Las Vegas.
On second thought…something cheery…can’t think of anything.
Oh and read L’Assommoir by Emile Zola.
– Made it to Oregon but my usual spot was full so I am in Gresham.
Life on the road is just hell without the Maron. Had to listen to Big Eddie and Rantin’ Randi. After I blasted my ears with Living With War.
It all just makes me cry.
And those dogs in China?
WTF is going on indeed?
Let’s see if I get caught up in Pj’s spaminator.

:fu:fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck!
the blog is broken! go here if this works!
Hey everyone…sleeping already? I just watched the new 30 Days on FX…Morgan Spurlock…He did a guy who lost his job to India…sent the guy to India to meet the guys who got it and see how they live. He came to the conclusion that its not the Indian’s fault, but rather the big corporations….
Also, I got FUBAR from audible and its really great. Will loves it…its funny and its interesting and smart! Good thing because we have been goign back and forth to Mamaroneck NY for one Dr for Will and tonight our appt was at 9PM….lots of driving lately.
I also got Fiasco…and right now Ricks, the author, in on Keith Rerun from 8PM….
Test was OK…no results for a few days…the worst thing would be a small operation…well, thats not the worst thing, but its the worst thing I can even consider right now….
Baby Jardine parrot came home today!!
Not having Marc on at all is so horrible and with only Sam and a little Rachel…I miss Janeane horribly, and Marc…..
I was driving and the Sattelite sisters came on!!
How can that be real?
Well, at least there is ned Lamont, who seems to be a real person with real ideals…and watching Joementum squirm….
Then today there was a big article about plastic in the ocean, swirling aorund for 50+ years in huge areas the size of Texas…..This is a big problem because the birds and animals are all full of it….
We humans have really ruined this earth, and I cant even begin to figure how we’re going to fix it when so many of us are just idiots.
PJ- I think that Krista, Trav, and Kat got caught in the filter because they are all 3 on new and different computers this week….or at least have a different connection….
Apparently people are camping out downtown to see hootie …ugh….they expect a huge crowd and are so surprised….
My friend’s band is opening and I could probably get a good spot if I bring the hobblin gimp with me, but its gonna be 99 degrees and I cant really stand hootie…or crowds…ir heat…or sun….and I should give any extra tie I have to Ned anyway!
OK, bed time for all the little birdies and puppies….
Im beat….
sblue- if you have a messenger I can transfer audio FUBAR to you….its almost like AAR used to be …but I miss Janeane so much….
Thanks Melina!
And thanks for the Dowd…I was off reading Aug 15 2005 MS blog.
I am thinking that is around when Maron was at Giggles last year.
I have to figure out how to get a messenger thingy.
I wish Jeruselm Syndrome was somewhere read by Marc.
Try Yahoo messenger or AOL IM…both are free and you can just keep them in the background unless you need them to chat with Seanie (or Kat in the casr of Yahoo!) or transfer a file…
File transfer is pretty easy if youve got an OK signal.
I have Fiasco and FUBAR…am gonna get the Suskind book but not this moment.
The other thing is that Audible has a trial offer which gives you 3 books and lasts for 2 o4 3 weeks…so you can take 3 books and then cancel before they charge you.
They actually have some very good programming for someone who drives aroudn alot. Thats what I did before AAR began. I got the NY Times put on my ipod automatically daily and got one book per month for something like $14….
OK…Have to get to sleep…
If you get a messenger just tell me the name youre using and Ill IM you.
nite all…
Ok I’m rudiblue56 on Yahoo-that was easy.
blog still broke?
