Well, the end is near. No, not the end of the world (though it wouldn’t surprise me, and I’d be hard-pressed to come up with a reason why we – as a species – don’t deserve to be replaced by a new, improved model), but the end of my summer in DC. While I’ll be back in January, I hope to never again be forced to spend more than a few days here. Not in a fucking dorm room, certainly, and not without a hell of a lot more money (and a house with a back yard). Even then, I wouldn’t exactly jump at the chance.
Oh, there are things I’ll miss, of course. The heat and humidity, to be sure, and the view of the homeless people living under the bridges as I ride the train through what I would describe as the “asshole” of Washington DC, if I didn’t know that the real asshole (when he’s not on vacation) lives on Pennsylvania Avenue.
I’ll miss being assaulted by the stench of sewer gas rising up from the shower drains, and I’ll miss the petitle little fella with less whiskers than you’d find on a newborn baby’s ass (who lathers up with a quarter inch of shaving cream every morning and spends an hour shaving and preening in front of the mirror in his stupid yellow towel – always using the sink next to the fucking paper town dispenser, the selfish prick). In fact, I’ll miss all these kids, who look (to me, anyway) as if they’re playing dress up, putting on their suits and skirts, and trying to look like grownups. Hell, I have underwear older than they are (sure, it’s my emergency backup underwear, but still…).
I’ll miss having to rearrange my shitty little refrigerator every time I want to get something out or put something back in again, and I’ll miss eating canned shit and boxed shit and cold shit and not quite cooked coffee-flavored (because it’s impossible to really get anything washed out in these shallow little bathroom sinks) ramen noodles, shit.
When I got here back on May 31st, there was still a Marc Maron show, and I thought maybe if we gave AAR a kick in the ass, they’d syndicate the goddman show aready. Now the show’s been gone for – what – two or three weeks already? Long enough for the hangover I had from staying up all night blogging and drinking beer to wear off. And that’s something I really do miss (the show, not the hangover). Especially on the ride home today, when I’d normally have a week’s worth of Maron saved up to keep me company.
Anyhow, at some point this morning (after the relatively light Friday morning rush hour traffic dies down), I’ll be leaving here, and heading home (and I should be there with plenty of time to spare to catch SciFi Friday – not to mention Monk and Psych). Before I go, I’d just like to think you all for keeping me company over the past two and a half months. While this isn’t exactly a horrible place (when you look at what’s going on all over the world – not just the Middle East, which of course gets all the attention, but in the forgotten and ignored places, like Africa, parts of South and Central America, and plenty of places right here in the good old US of A – it seems pretty “American” to bitch about a room with a roof, a bed, indoor plumbing, air conditioning – most of the time – cable TV, and high-speed Internet access), it still kinda sucks, and the MS bloggers have been like a family, keeping me company, and helping me forget – at least for little stretches of time – how much I miss home.
So anyhow, thanks for hangin’ out, and I’ll catch up with you later. Have a good Friday, wish me a traffic-friendly trip back, and if you’re out there in LA, get out to the UCB Theater, and see Mishna and then Marc tonight. See ya.

Good Morning/afternoon/tomorrow/whatever
It’s hard to figure out the Lebanon conflict this morning.. yesterday Hezzbollah told Israel that they wouldn’t consider a truce until Israel pulled out of lebanon but it they didn’t they would launch missile attacks on Tel Aviv..Israel responded that they would destroy all of Lebanon if Tel Aviv was attacked.
This morning Israel seems to be blowing parts of norther lebanon off the map .. so who knows. :gate::omg::jason::jason::jason::jason:

The difference between the leaders in the Middle east and the leaders in the west seems to be that the middle east leaders seem to be professionals ( doctors, lawyers, scientists) where as the western leaders seem to be mostly corporatist dip shits.
Blair’s news conference was on C-span .. He also uses the word “Democracy” to represent unfettered capitalism and control by the elite over the masses ( it sounded just like Bushco with an English accent),, The middle eastern press was civil but there was a lot of tension in the air…:yuck::crap::rant1:

Action Line: Tips to surviving heat straight from Outback
By Dennis Rockstroh
Mercury News 08/03/2006
Q I was appalled to read in the Mercury News regarding the number of deaths caused by the hot weather.
I am writing to you because you always get results and I consider this a life-and-death issue!
I think it should be on the front page to alert everyone on how to survive the hot weather.
It is so simple and doesn’t cost money or energy!!!!!
I have camped in the Australian Outback deserts for weeks at a time and been quite comfortable using these techniques.
I’m almost 70, have no air conditioning and survive quite nicely in heat waves.
Here are some heat survival techniques:
• Wet a cotton terry cloth towel and hang it around your neck.
Re-wet periodically. (The back of the neck is VERY sensitive to cooling the body!) Wet head and wristbands, too.
• Put on loose, 100 percent cotton clothing (such as a muumuu) and wet it in the shower. Wring out the bottom so that you don’t drip too much water on the floor and furniture.
Sit in a breeze if possible (fan, open window, deck or front porch). Re-wet when cooling effect diminishes. A spray bottle filled with water can be carried in the car for on-the-go re-wetting.
• Open all windows, turn on all fans after 7 to 8 p.m. Close and turn off at 7 the next morning. Repeat daily.
• Use adhesive-backed look-and-hook tape to hang white sheets OUTSIDE of sunlit windows. Remove after 7 to 8 p.m.
• Sit in an open-weave lawn chair in the lowest level of the house (coolest).
Do not sit in upholstered chairs.
• Open skylights or upper-floor north-facing windows and basement or lowest-floor windows to create a “chimney” effect at night, to let heat rise.
• Don’t cut down trees and bushes, because they provide shade and cooling evaporation.

7:20 a.m.: An EU official voiced concern over Israel’s bombing of Lebanon’s main north-south highway, which was being used as a main corridor for international aid into the country. “What we considered a safe corridor has been bombed, so that road going to the north is not safe anymore,” said EU spokesman Pietro Petrucci.
7 a.m.: Israel is waging a “war of starvation” on Lebanese civilians in an effort to force the Lebanese government to agree to Israel’s demands, Lebanese President Lahoud said in a statement Friday. His comments came after Israeli warplanes bombed bridges and roads in Christian neighborhoods north of Beirut, killing five civilians and making travel between suburbs increasingly difficult.
12:30 a.m.: Israel pounded Hezbollah’s southern Beirut strongholds with missiles and, in a sharp expansion of its bombing of Lebanon, blasted highway bridges for the first time in the Christian heartland north of the capital during morning rush hour. Four civilians were killed and 10 wounded in the airstrikes on bridges north of Beirut early morning, the Lebanese Red Cross said.

Forever Changes
After stepping onstage into the spotlight, for the first ever Jandek live performance (pretty much unannounced to all but those who picked up on the “Corwood Representative” clue), he’s become even more overanalysed and dissected. If we can accept that the blues is not a genre but a path of expression, then it’s possible to see Jandek as part of the tradition (albeit an odd one).
I don’t know if conservatism will die a graceful death or not..There are still way to many people who listen to Limpprick and Handjob and the 200 some minor conservative babble artists on radio and cable TeeVee.. The “Southern problem” will only grow as more and more people look for places to live where they don’t have high taxes and a very low cost ( and standard) of living..There has to be a reason most of the idiots who call WJ have a southern or TexASS accent.:yuck::barf::gate::omg::jason::jason:

Los Angeles, CA (AHN) – Arthur Lee, the singer and guitarist of the seminal ’60s rock band Love, died of leukemia Thursday in a Memphis hospital, his manager said Friday. He was 61.
Lee’s manager, Mark Linn, said in an email to Reuters, “His death comes as a shock to me because Arthur had the uncanny ability to bounce back from everything, and leukemia was no exception. He was confident that he would be back on stage by the fall.”
Lee formed the group in Los Angeles in 1965. Love was the first multiracial band of the psychedelic era and Lee called himself “the first so-called black hippie.” Love was part of the same scene as bands like the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, the Doors and the Mamas and Papas.
The band released three albums, a self-titled debut, “Da Capo” and “Forever Changes.” Their sound was influenced by diverse genres including traditional folk rock, blues, symphonic suites and punk. Led Zeppelin, Echo and the Bunnymen, and Siouxsie and the Banshees have all cited Love as an influence.

No violence was reported during the rally in Sadr City. But at least 26 people were killed elsewhere in the country, most of them in a car bombing and gunbattle in Mosul in the north.

Galbraith reports that the three of them spent some time explaining to Bush that there are two different sects in Islam–to which the President allegedly responded, “I thought the Iraqis were Muslims!”
BAGHDAD, Iraq – Hundreds of thousands of Shiites thronged a Baghdad slum Friday to show support for Hezbollah as Arab anger toward
Israel mounted on the Muslim holy day. Such protests have even reached Saudi Arabia, where public discontent is rare.
In the most violent demonstration, about 100 people threw stones and a firebomb at the British Embassy in Tehran, damaging the building but harming nobody as they accused Britain and the United States of being accomplices in Israel’s fight against Hezbollah, a Shiite group in Lebanon that is backed by Persian
Iran.
Even Sunni Muslim demonstrators took to the streets of Damascus, Cairo and Amman. But their numbers were dwarfed by the huge Shiite turnout in Baghdad, organized by anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.
Shultz appears to be on the DLC payroll.. he had his pal Joe Lieberjerk on for almost a half an hour.. Rhodes had Lamont on ..Its to bad what little we have of a “media” has to have a corporatist arm too.

All you have to do is read PNAC, The Project For The New American Century. The writings of the neo-cons in the late 90s conform to the events on 9/11 and the necessity of a second “Pearl Harbor” to rally the American people to support the PNAC plan. Having reviewed the inconsistencies and contradictions of reports on 9/11, I have concluded that the 19 hijackers were really part of what they believed to be an Al-Qaeda funded operation. All 19 sincerely believed in what they were doing and the operation probably was funded by a real terrorist group. However, given the remarkable incompetence of the intelligence agencies and our air defense system, I have concluded that the 19 hijackers had inside help.

CNN Poll: Public split on Bush’s handling of the Mideast crisis
Friday, August 4, 2006
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) — Respondents to a CNN poll released Friday were nearly evenly split on President Bush’s handling of the current conflict in the Middle East.
Forty-six percent of 1,047 Americans participating in the telephone poll, conducted by Opinion Research Corporation for CNN, said they disapproved of Bush’s handling of the crisis, while 43 percent said they approved. Ten percent had no opinion….
***
On the current Middle East conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, more than two-thirds — 68 percent — said their sympathies lie with Israel, compared to only 6 percent who sympathize with Hezbollah. Eleven percent said they sympathized with neither, while another 11 percent had no opinion.
Forty-one percent said they thought Israel’s military reaction to the July 12 kidnapping of its soldiers by Hezbollah — which triggered the current conflict — was “about right,” but 32 percent said it went too far.
Respondents were also split about what Israel should do now. Forty-six percent said it should continue its military campaign until Hezbollah is unable to launch attacks against it; 44 percent said Israel should agree to a cease-fire as soon as possible….

Peace, Propaganda & The Promised Land
Bathsheba Ratzkoff and Sut Jhally 1 hr 19 min 14 sec
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7828123714384920696
Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land provides a striking comparison of U.S. and international media coverage of the crisis in the Middle East, zeroing in on how structural distortions in U.S. coverage have reinforced false perceptions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This pivotal documentary exposes how the foreign policy interests of American political elites–oil, and a need to have a secure military base in the region, among others–work in combination with Israeli public relations strategies to exercise a powerful influence over how news from the region is reported. Through the voices of scholars, media critics, peace activists, religious figures, and Middle East experts, Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land carefully analyzes and explains how–through the use of language, framing and context–the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza remains hidden in the news media, and Israeli colonization of the occupied terrorities appears to be a defensive move rather than an offensive one. The documentary also explores the ways that U.S. journalists, for reasons ranging from intimidation to a lack of thorough investigation, have become complicit in carrying out Israel’s PR campaign. At its core, the documentary raises questions about the ethics and role of journalism, and the relationship between media and politics.
Ok, this time for real, I’m gone. Bye :fire:
New poll spells woe for Joe, joy for his foe
BY HELEN KENNEDY
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
With just five days to go before the much-watched Connecticut Democratic primary, anti-war protest candidate Ned Lamont has surged to a dramatic 13-point lead over centrist Sen. Joe Lieberman in a new poll.
And in a second big blow to Lieberman, the 300,000-strong 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers union in New York endorsed Lamont and promised to mobilize foot soldiers for him this weekend.
Both sides say the key to victory now is getting out their vote. The Service Employees International Union help is a boost for Lamont, who does not have a tested ground operation, and marks another humiliation for Lieberman, who is used to strong union support.
“It’s been a good day. This is actually in our grasp,” said Lamont spokeswoman Liz Dupont-Diehl.
While SEIU Local 1199 in Hartford has not endorsed a candidate, the larger New York union said it has many members who commute from Connecticut.

And i was on my land

Served my time
Served it well
You made my soul a cell
Write the rules
In the sky
But ask your leaders
Why why

The Secret of The Heron  😉
Wow how did you know where I lived, Druid? I do have an altar by that name…
It’s no secret I’m flyin’ up and down the coast about to catch a fish.
I want to know about strange trips of travis later.
:pent:Susan Joy It is good to hear your “Voice” through The Stream 😉
sblueheron , You look beautiful and are beautiful, but with a :growl: bite 😉
Tea:joe:Cheers to All.
my damn air conditioning is on the fritz :fu: Hey Druid. How was your Lughnasadh?
Susan Joy , I also reempowered Art Supplies and MY PEN (aka My Sword, Lib ):!: Great And Yours:?:
I’m taking offerings from certain discipiles. A new air conditioner and some chocolate sound good right now…anything else you might have in mind I might think about…
Susan_Joy, did you cleanse yet? Bad AC :spank: Sounds like my love/hate relationship with my computer:grin:
I’m going to do a major spiritual cleansing in this house as soon as my AC is fixed. It really needs it. Have to order more incense also.
Hey all, I feel like I’ve been gone for WEEKS! My friend lent me his computer but I have to buy another friggin wireless card and I have to take my dog Jane in to the vet and get x-rays. Her leg is shriveling up. 🙁 I hope something short of surgery can be done. It’s really been a horrible summer for a lot of people I know. Everyone is broke. All kinds of crap raining down from the Universe. I was so sad to hear about Arthur Lee 🙁 🙁 I’m glad I was able to see him play with Love again in the 90’s. Although, the weather here has been fairly cool while you all are frying like an egg on a hot tin roof!
PJ must be home by now:hubba:
:wink:Depends how bad? You can take MugWort or Black or White Sage (best sage for through cleansing) or simple salt or rock or sea salt is best infuse with water or simple with Light (candle) and/or bell. Go to each room after “spiritually” running over You Aura (yourself). That is beginning and so great you probably need little else but there is more Bwah HaHa:wink:
Those are good ideas, Druid. Plenty of mugwort grows around here and I already have cedar and sage
With Incense or without. Or water heated by tea candle and infuse leaf or let dry and put Fank and/or Myrry AAAHHHHH Cleansing 😉 You are a Witch, you can do by “spirit”.
I just love being a Wiccan (also Druid). I am proud to say Wiccan /Wicce, and Witch, since I see the words as our heritage:!:
Hey, I’m at the corner of 45 st and Union Bay, waiting for the bus
And on that “Note” (Sir Rose:wink:) I’ll Hush, but I just love:love: since a wee one being a Witch, even at 9 by friends I was called a Catholic Witch — even the Jesuits gave me the okay TeeHee
Heading to the Moon?

I hope it didn’t drive by while I’m zoned-out on the ‘puter:doh:
re 126 :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:
Why don’t the two of you go to a Cafe?
Should be a loud Friday night in Garabaldi. I saw a woman with a pool cue on the street.
Yeah, his mom is doing pretty well.
Sorry about the all caps early
I’ll throw it down later:omg:
That’s good man.:hot:
Hey Druid my friend I spoke of felt the emanations and called me today. I was just slipping into range to make some calls and there he was back from Scotland.

Hey sleepy geniuses!
Philosopher kings and queens
working class heros…..
what a day! What a week!
I have been trying to get a post up about the Lamont rally in Greenwich today, but I cant finish it without sleep.
Did anyone see the satire joke pic on huffpo of clinton in dark glasses and lieberman in blackface? It was another photoshopped special and Lieberman took great offense at it…it was posted by Jane Hamsher of Firedoglake and I guess she took it down….well, I cant find it anywhere…and Arianna said that it was clearly satire…so what is joementum’s problem? Could it be that his career as a pol is …um…OVER!!
Ned’s lead is in the double digits and everyone is watching this race. We’ve got kids coming in from all over on trains and busses to work the weekend and through ZTuesday on teh phones. Im gonna go down there and do some phone work too…
Just so damned tired and need to bring groceries to my grandpa….but Ill get there….
Today I had to lift and carry Will a few times and he is HEAVY!! What a scene….thank god he feels better now! I think its gonna be a little hard to move tomorrow!
In more pressing news, has anyone called for reservations at Gotham? I havent had a chance and dont know if they need a credit card or what….
I need to try to call tomorrow….
Saturday is the day…right and then some of us will go to the taping on Sunday.
I miss AAR….
Mom was telling me about the new flagship in NYC….Not much to tell atually but they do have a strong morning show that it will be hard for me to get off…but its no comedy show.
Ill try to check it tomorrow if I get up early at all. Might have to sleep in tomorrow.
nite all!!
PJ, welcome home!! Hugs to Siggy!!…and all of you. Im happy that the family is back together!
I’ve been out having fun, but we won’t talk about that. Hope everyone is having a good night. Pj home yet? I did another podcast. Its graphic stuff and X rated so you prolly shouldn’t listen. I hate how I sound. I need to take speech courses I guess. We southerners have a harder time of it. But I figure the more I do these podcasts the better I’ll get so . . . what the hell. Just wish I could think off the top of my head. I have to give Randi Rhodes credit for being able to talk non-stop for 4 hours. I donno how she does it. Is the war over? Guess not. Can you tell I’m just rambling? I guess I should go to bed.
Just a read’n, work’n, and lurk’n a bit.
:neutral:fuck israel!
Siggy, BowWowWow, I hope the Grand Embracing has Occured and PJ got to see his SciFi/Fan. Good Pets 😉 And Meow:billcat::wink:
heres a good blog
SeanMS, I think they have gone “one step beyond”.
They are now a Mental Case Study. Where the abused has turned into the abuser.:oops:I had abuse(_) in reverse. In that scenerio, The Native Americanas should Control ALL. Even the Mexicans were originally mixed = Spanish and Native American. American (including me) listen well to My Words.
SeanMS re 154:cool:with what they say:banana:. (Except I no longer believe in Kosher food if one were to see the horrid way they Kill. 🙁 )
heres a good little bunch of links i have put together real quick for my good friend from high school that posted this on myspace
Israel is bombing bridges in Lebanon, cutting off roads used by Syria to supply Hezbollah. The U.N. is complaining that Israel is destroying mean of access to supply Lebanese refugees with relief aid. The U.N. is a piece of crap “club” that are a bunch of cowards, that don’t want to take any action except for pass resolutions. I would like to resolute that the U.N. sucks. Lebanese are getting relief aid, Israel is letting relief aid come in via plane and boat. They are cutting off roads, so Syria cannot provide piece of crap Hezbollah with arms, therefore choking Hezbollah into unconditional surrender. I don’t care what anyone says, countries like Syria, Iran, Jordan, Shiite factions in Iraq, and Libya only want the destruction of Israel, nothing more. But, does the U.N. do anything to stop this? NO!!!! In fact, I am led to believe that the U.N. is anti-Israel. Here is a link to a great article about the piece of crap U.N. and their attitude towards Israel.

nobody home 😡
Morning, Night teehee Susan Joy
SeanMS I heard Majority might be cancelled — Sam said it would run for a week AFTER THAT he did not know
was this announced officially or is it just conjecture?
I am read’n so just periodically coming up for air. Spare time I am making a special note and envelope with a candlewax seal to seal the note/envelope 😉
:doh:sam said it theres an e-mail address to “support” the show so i am thinking its cancelled maybe they are cancelling it so they can have a live Maron show! yay:banana:
:fu:but i doubt that!
just conjecture? This is what I heard Sam say then heard it elswhere but unknown where. But I heard Sam and I think someone here mentioned it.
Palestinians are “Semites,” but the word antisemitism is never applied to prejudice against them, only to Jews. The restriction on the application to Jews, and failure to use it in reference to Palestinians, continues in the face of the fact that prejudice against Jews has sharply diminished in the West from the era of Hitler, and that the Arabs have displaced them as target of anti-“Semite” hostility. Thus the usage itself reflects power and deep-seated bias.
What is more, the use of “antisemitism” has long been an opportunistic ploy of supporters of Israel to counter criticism of Israel, with mentions of the Holocaust and allegations of prejudice against Jews used to elicit sympathy for Israel, supposedly once again being threatened by menacing enemies. But the fact is that Israel has created increasing numbers of enemies by refusing to leave the occupied territories, or to abide by the Geneva Conventions, or to halt the steady and increasingly brutal ethnic cleansing of the indigenous Palestinians in favor of Jewish settlers, many immigrants from abroad. By identifying opposition to Sharon and Israeli ethnic cleansing with “antisemitism,” pro-ethnic cleansing activists have made “antisemitism” — in their distorted and unacceptable sense — a moral obligation for all decent human beings.
“Antisemitism” has been a complement of “terrorism” in the propaganda arsenal of the “friends of Israel,” more properly designated the “supporters and underwriters of Israeli ethnic cleansing.” The Palestinians have engaged in terror, but by any meaningful definition the Israelis have also, and the bias in treatment of the two has been staggering. The huge death rate differential over the years — better than twenty Palestinian to one Israeli deaths — and the steady racist bias in systematic house demolitions and removals, the seizure of water resources, and the rise to head of the Israeli state of a world class terrorist responsible for over a thousand Palestinian civilian deaths in a single episode, doesn’t alter the deeply imbedded bias. Only the Palestinians terrorize; the Israelis retaliate and are the victims of terror.
Back in 1979, when world pressure on Israel to settle and end its “redemption of the land” by ethnic cleansing was severe, the Israel-based Jonathan Institute organized a meeting in Israel that brought together members of the Western elite — George Bush, George Will, Senators Henry Jackson and John Danforth, Paul Johnson, Lord Chalfont, Jacques Soustelle, and many others — to declare the PLO a terrorist organization linked to Moscow, and to declare Israel the victim. The organization met again in Washington in 1984 for another rousing session to make the same points, here with Secretary of State George Shultz, Jeane Kirkpatrick, Senator Moynihan, Daniel Schorr and Ted Koppel, among others present. This and many other Israeli-official U.S.-media efforts helped pin the terrorism label on the PLO and preserve Israel’s right to ethnically cleanse by means of (unacknowledged) state terrorism.
EDWARD HERMAN
damn, so another good show is eliminated from AA lineup…
fuck it. I hate being alone in this place
:fu:
NickiRose WOW…that is why BOTH sides have to Fight for Peace. Personally, now all I see is that “the abusee is now the abuser”. And that is sickly Sad :barf: 🙁
