The world’s largest manufacturer of personal computers, Dell, is to recall 4.1 million of its notebook computer batteries because of a fire risk.
Most batteries are in computers sold in the US but more than 1 million are thought to be elsewhere.
Dell says it knows of six instances since December when the batteries, made by Sony, overheated or caught fire.
The US body responsible for consumer safety says it is the biggest recall of electrical products in its history.

A member of Senator Conrad Burns’ staff accidentally let loose a profanity-laced tirade to a reporter–including a direct insult of Senator George Allen (R-Va.)– according to Roll Call’s “Heard on the Hill.”
The Daily Press of Newport News, Va., was calling Burns’ office for further comment on a recent outburst by the Senator (R-Mt.) blasting Virginia firefighters in Montana when the young staffer who answered, erroneously believing the reporter to be a friend, proceeded with a host of obscenity-laced comments not intended for public consumption. The aide at one point even allegedly said, “…you can tell Sen. George Allen of Virginia to [vulgarity deleted].”
“Heard on the Hill” makes light of the young man’s gaffe, but the head of the Montana Democratic Party took the opportunity to capitalize on it, saying “a dark cloud will … hang over the senatorial campaign and our state” until Burns or the aide apologizes to Montanans.

Ehud Olmert, the Israeli Prime Minister, was obliged to admit “shortcomings” in the 34-day-old conflict in Lebanon yesterday as he launched what may prove a protracted fight for his own political survival.
Mr Olmert’s admission in a stormy Knesset session came in the face of devastating poll figures showing a majority of the Israeli public believes none or only a very small part of the goals of the war had been achieved.
Adding insult to injury, the leader of Hizbollah, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, crowed on television that his guerrillas had achieved a “strategic historic victory” over Israel.

saw Melina was talking about the DemocratIC thing on Franken…i posted this from the new yorker last week in case anyone is interested again.
speaking of new yorker, Seymour M. Hersh is going to be on the Rachael Maddow show this a.m. And here’s his newest article in this week’s magazine that I assume they’ll discuss.
JERUSALEM — Israel has 13 Hezbollah prisoners and the bodies of dozens of guerrillas that it could offer in exchange for two captive soldiers, military officials said Tuesday.
Israel has publicly insisted that Hezbollah unconditionally release the captured soldiers. The U.N. Security Council resolution that led to the cessation of hostilities also demands that Hezbollah hand over the Israeli prisoners.
But the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak with the media, indicated that Israel was ready for an arrangement though a mediator that could ultimately lead to the release of the prisoners it holds.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has appointed Ofer Dekel, formerly the deputy head of Israel’s Shin Bet security service, to oversee efforts to bring back the two soldiers captured by Hezbollah July 12 in a cross-border raid that sparked 34 days of war with Hezbollah guerrillas.

:omg:Assad: We’ll liberate Golan Heights
Syrian President Bashar Assad said his country is prepared for any war that may break out with Israel, adding that he is convinced that the chances for peace have decreased and that “the Golan Heights will be liberated by Syria.”
Syria and the resistance (referring to Hizbullah) read the situation correctly in that we predicted the confrontation. There have been extensive preparations for the current battle.
Referring to the international community’s intervention in the conflict, President Assad said “they intervene only when Israel is in pain; but when the Lebanese, Palestinians and others suffer – no one intervenes.”
Assad took the opportunity to praise Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah , describing him as “a unique commander in the history of the noble Lebanese resistance’; he also lauded Hizbullah TV station Al-Manar, saying it was the first time that the Arab media ‘defeated’ the enemy’s.

Hezbollah Celebrates Swell of Support
By Megan K. Stack, Times Staff Writer
BEIRUT, Lebanon — Hezbollah’s urban nerve center is a shattered shell. Its most loyal followers trudged homeward to a heartland laid to waste. And yet the Shiite organization lighted up the night sky with fireworks on Monday and declared itself triumphant over Israel.
Israel meant to break Hezbollah with its month-long offensive, but instead the militant organization is strengthened politically in Lebanon, analysts said. The movement has a fresh boost of popularity, at least for now, and an renewed sense that it is entitled to keep its own armed militia outside the control of the Lebanese army, they say.
The newfound clout enjoyed by Hezbollah has come at a staggering cost to Lebanon’s infrastructure, economy and civilians, hundreds of whom died under the rubble of Israeli bombs. The fragile central government, which the U.S. administration strove to polish into an example of democracy taking root in the Arab world, has also suffered from the month of fighting….
***
The U.N. resolution that paved the way for the truce calls for Hezbollah’s disarmament. So, for that matter, does an earlier, long-ignored U.N. resolution. But the terms of giving up the weaponry are vague. And as a prominent party in the Lebanese government, Hezbollah will have a hand in deciding how and whether the language translates into fact.
If anything, analysts said, the monthlong war has managed to worsen Lebanon’s underlying instability, bolstering Hezbollah at the expense of more moderate, secular figures in government….

Sean be afraid very afraid..:eek::eek::fustrate::paranoid:
I think we were just talkin’ shit. Obviously, since we both live in hot places. :hot:
It’s now known that both Israeli assaults were jointly planned many months earlier with their US allies that aided the Israelis with their support, funding, supply and replenishment of weapons as needed, and satellite tracking and intelligence information from National Security Agency (NSA) intercepts. Retired US General Wesley Clark also revealed in his book Winning Modern Wars that in late 2001 (after 9/11 and the attack on Afghanistan began) the Pentagon was planning to attack Lebanon as part of a five year campaign targeting seven countries beginning with Iraq, then going on to Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Somalia and Sudan.
It’s all part of the US imperial plan to redraw the map of the strategically important Middle East and its vast oil and scarce water reserves, establish client states throughout the region, remove independent leaders standing in the way, and replace them with more receptive ones willing to sacrifice their nations’ sovereignty in service to the de facto ruler of the world. Israel is part of the scheme as well and has its own imperial aims. It’s the only country in the world without declared borders because it’s plan is to extend them beyond where they are now to wherever it’s able to lay claim and get away with it.
Most important to the Israelis is their plan to include as part of Israel the ancient lands of “Judea” and “Summaria,” the West Bank biblical parts of Israel comprising the OPT the Palestinians justifiably claim as their homeland. In addition, the most extreme Zionists in the country, who have great influence on policy, want all the land of “Eretz Israel,” the total biblical Jewish homeland they believe God gave to the
12 tribes of Israel which includes all of present-day Israel and the OPT, Lebanon, most of Syria, part of Egypt and a large part of Jordon. Israel already controls the choicest parts of the West Bank including 50% of its fresh water resources and all of Gaza any time it chooses to enter and reoccupy it, the Syrian Golan Heights that supply it with one-third of its total water, and the 25 kilometer Shebaa Farms area of South Lebanon it never relinquished after seizing it as well in the 1967 war.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his Likudnik right-wing spin-off allies in his Kadima party apparently want still more territory seized and under its control well within the timetable they set to declare permanent Israeli borders in 2007. South Lebanon has long been one such area Israel covets. It seized and occupied this land for 22 years but failed to keep it and was finally driven out by a determined Hezbollah resistance that was born out of the second Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 and the oppressive occupation that followed.
Why Israel Attacked Lebanon
Israel claims this area is important to it for so-called security reasons, but its greatest value is as a source of fresh water from the Litani River in South Lebanon and also the Wazzani springs that feed directly into the Hasbani River which is a tributary of the Jordan River. The Hisbani flows into Israel two miles downstream from the Wazzani and runs into the Sea of Galilee that’s Israel’s largest source of fresh water. Lebanon wants to pump about 350,000 cubic feet of water daily from the Wazzini to supply its villages in the south which it has every right to do, of course, but Israel opposes that plan and now effectively stopped it since invading the country.
The prime motive of Israel’s assault on Lebanon and invasion in the south is to seize, occupy and then annex the 20 mile stretch of territory into the country up to the Litani to be able to use for its own needs what now supplies a major portion of Lebanon’s fresh water. The Litani’s annual flow is estimated at about 920 million cubic meters. If Israel can incorporate and control South Lebanon up to the Litani, it would augment its annual fresh water supply by up to 800 million cubic meters or nearly 40% of its annual consumption. That amount would be in addition to the one-third of its supply now gotten from the Golan Heights Israel seized from Syria in the 1967 war, never returned for obvious reasons, and never intends to. And, as mentioned above, Israel also controls half the fresh water resources of the West Bank it uses for its own needs and denies them to the Palestinians for theirs.
STEPHEN LENDMAN
“George Will has a piece in the Washington Post today called The Triumph of Unreality. It is an unrelenting critique of Bush Inc.
Here’s a snippet:
” Cooperation between Pakistani and British law enforcement (the British draw upon useful experience combating IRA terrorism) has validated John Kerry’s belief (as paraphrased by the New York Times Magazine of Oct. 10, 2004) that “many of the interdiction tactics that cripple drug lords, including governments working jointly to share intelligence, patrol borders and force banks to identify suspicious customers, can also be some of the most useful tools in the war on terror.” In a candidates’ debate in South Carolina (Jan. 29, 2004), Kerry said that although the war on terror will be “occasionally military,” it is “primarily an intelligence and law enforcement operation that requires cooperation around the world.”
Immediately after the London plot was disrupted, a “senior administration official,” insisting on anonymity for his or her splenetic words, denied the obvious, that Kerry had a point. The official told The Weekly Standard:
“The idea that the jihadists would all be peaceful, warm, lovable, God-fearing people if it weren’t for U.S. policies strikes me as not a valid idea. [Democrats] do not have the understanding or the commitment to take on these forces. It’s like John Kerry. The law enforcement approach doesn’t work.”

It will be interesting to see if Israel really withdraws from southern Lebanon or if they just say they are and don’t.. Will the UN do something ?? The UN forces only have orders to defend themselves not fight battles with Hezzbollah or Israel.. How do you get Israel out if they decide not to leave.. ?? You have to get some major player in the region ( most likely the region to the north of Turkey or to the east of Iran) to lean on them.. After votes were suppressed in Florida and Ohio during the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections, Salon warns that four additional states could see voters prevented from casting ballots, with the greatest impact felt by Democratic candidates.
The report shows business as usual in Ohio where gubernatorial candidate and current Secretary of State Ken Blackwell has pushed regulations working to hinder voter registration efforts in the state. Similar efforts are afoot in Florida, as well as new authority for partisan pollwatchers to challenge the registration of individual voters.
But it is in four new states where Salon emphasizes new troubles might break out:
In Arizona, legislation that requires proof of citizenship to vote is taking a toll beyond the illegal immigrants it seeks to keep out of polling places.
In Indiana, difficulties in securing state identification have complicated the ability of many to register to vote.
In California, problems have been identified with electronic voting machines, and the consolidation of statewide voter registration lists is being used to bar voters from the rolls.
In Missouri, rigid ID laws for voters are seen to be targeting minority voters likely to vote against Republicans.

From the Los Angeles Times:
President Signs Bill to Save San Diego Cross
The legislation labels the icon on public land a federal war memorial, an effort to make it harder for foes to force its removal.
By Tony Perry
Times Staff Writer
August 15, 2006
SAN DIEGO — President Bush on Monday signed a bill designed to save the cross atop Mt. Soledad here from being removed, but both sides in the 17-year court battle predicted more politicking and litigating before the fate of the cross is finally decided.
Bush signed a bill sponsored by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-El Cajon) that designates the 43-foot cross and the city land beneath it as a federal war memorial under control of the Department of Defense.
A federal judge in May declared the cross a violation of the constitutional separation of church and state and ordered it removed by Aug. 2. That order was stayed last month by the U.S. Supreme Court until other legal issues can be resolved.
Cross proponents believe that shifting ownership of the land to the federal government will invalidate the judge’s ruling and make it more difficult for opponents to prevail because the U.S. Constitution is more flexible about religious icons on federal property than the state Constitution is about city land.

Mexico’s Partial Vote Recount Confirms Massive and Systematic Election Fraud
With Less than 9 Percent of Precincts Recounted, More than 126,000 Votes Are Found to Have Been Disappeared or Illegally Fabricated
~snip~
In 3,074 precincts (29 percent of those recounted), 45,890 illegal votes, above the number of voters who cast ballots in each polling place, were found stuffed inside the ballot boxes (an average of 15 for each of these precincts, primarily in strongholds of the National Action Party, known as the PAN, of President Vicente Fox and his candidate, Felipe Calderón).
In 4,368 precincts (41 percent of those recounted), 80,392 ballots of citizens who did vote are missing (an average of 18 votes in each of these precincts).
, these 7,442 precincts contain about 70 percent of the ballots recounted. The total amount of ballots either stolen or forged adds up to 126,282 votes altered.
If the recount results of these 10,679 precincts (8.2 percent of the nation’s 130,000 polling places) are projected nationwide, it would mean that more than 1.5 million votes were either stolen or stuffed in an election that the first official count claimed was won by Calderon by only 243,000 votes.
Among the findings of this very limited partial recount are that in 3,079 precincts where the PAN party is strong and where, in many cases, the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) of candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador did not count with election night poll watchers, one or more of three things occurred: Either the Federal Electoral Institute (IFE, in its Spanish initials) illegally provided more ballots than there are voters in those precincts, or the PAN party stole those extra ballots, or ballots were forged.
“Taqueo and Saqueo”
These preliminary recounts demonstrate mainly two kinds of fraud: “taqueo,” or the stuffing of ballot boxes with false votes as if putting extra beans inside a taco, and “saqueo,” or “looting,” that is, the disappearance of legitimate ballots cast.

I’ll be lurking in the corner of the blog room. Be nice!

Oh, you mean politically. 😳
Shame on me. :spank:
Hey cnick listened to your latest podcast and the sound is really good. I am going to keep you wondering though- Hint- it is all here in the blog -all the answers you have been wondering about. you need just to dig around a bit.
Hey Fred! I am! I’m going to be a poll worker.
Comment by Kristapea — August 15, 2006 @ 10:06 am
Are the age requirements different in AZ? Because it seems like whenever I vote in FL, all of the poll workers are at least 75. Maybe it’s not a requirement, but it sure seems like one.
But seriously, folks…
I have November 6-8 off so that I can do something. Not sure what yet. I was thinking originally maybe doing something anti-Katherine Harris, but she’s doing much better at that herself than I could ever hope to do.
:rofl2:
hmm “dig around” huh? Thanks sblue. I’ll try. ALSO, thanks for the kind words in regard to my podcast. I need to take speech courses. Maybe I’ll get better. Take care of Travis. He seems like a nice guy. 21 years old huh. He is a young one. n e way I’ll be around.
The Miracle of Intervale Avenue
The Story of a Jewish Congregation in the South Bronx
Jack Kugelmass
“An absorbing volume which… is part of the foundation for an emerging body of South Bronx listerature.”
—Daniel Patrick Moynihan
Located in the ravaged urban landscape of the South Bronx, the Intervale Jewish Center is the last synagogue still in regular use in a rapidly changing neighborhood. This unique congregation represents the struggle of individuals to maintain their dignity, independence, and faith over the years.
In The Miracle of Intervale Avenue, Jack Kugelmass tells the inspiring story of a community that continues to see the area as its own, as a place they steadfastly refuse to abandon despite a major shift in the ethnic demography of the South Bronx and an increase in violent crime.
A classic ethnography of American Jewish life, The MIracle of Intervale Avenue has now been brought up to date. In a new closing chapter and epilogue, Kugelmass shows how the congregation has adapted to the radical changes in the neighborhood, bringing closure to this poignant work. Now with 38 photographs of the community over the years, the book covers the slow econmic resurgence of the South Bronx and discusses the revitalizing effect of the congregation’s new members, including blacks and Latinos.

An Open Letter to George W. Bush on Lebanon
Telling the Israelis to “Take Your Time”
By RALPH NADER
The widespread destruction of a defenseless Lebanon-its civilians, its life-sustaining public services, its environment-is a grim and indelible testament to your consummate cruelty and ignorance. Nearly two weeks ago when your tardy Secretary of State met with the Israeli Prime Minister, the message she carried was summarized in a large headline across page one of an Israeli newspaper, “TAKE YOUR TIME.”
Yes, take your time, says George W. Bush, pulverizing fleeing refugees in cars full of families, bombing apartment buildings, hospitals and the poor huddled in large south Beirut slums.
Take your time, says George W. Bush, in destroying bridges, roads, gasoline stations, airports, seaports, wheat silos, vehicles with medical supplies, clearly marked ambulances taking the wounded to clinics, even a milk factory .
Take your time, says George W. Bush, while shelters are demolished with bodies of little children together with their mothers and fathers buried in the rubble.
Take your time, says George W. Bush, while the number of fleeing refugees nears one million Lebanese, many exposed to hunger, disease, lack of potable water and medicines. All this in a country friendly to the United States, which played by your rules, protested the Syrian army back into Syria and was trying democratically to put itself together.
Take your time, says George W. Bush, while he speeds more supplies of precision missiles containing deadly anti-personnel cluster bombs which will claim the lives of innocent children for years into the future. The phosphorous bombs laying waste to fields growing crops and horribly burning innocents come from the U.S.A. under your direction.
Do you think the taxpayers of America would approve of such shipped weapons were they ever asked?
Are there words in the English language suitable for the impeachable serial war crimes you are intimately involved in committing not only in Iraq but also now through your encouragement and supplying of the once again invading Israeli government?
Are there words to describe your strategic stupidity which will further increase opposition and peril to the United States around the world and especially in the Middle East? Your own Generals and former CIA Director, Porter Goss, among others in your Administration, have declared that your occupation of Iraq is a magnet attracting the recruiting and training of more and more “terrorists” from Iraq and other countries. And so now this will be the case in Lebanon. All this is a growing “blowback,” to use the CIA word for a boomeranging foreign policy, that is endangering the security of the United States.
The calibrated Israeli terror bombing of Lebanon comes in three stages. With its electronic pinpoint precision bombing and artillery, the Israeli government goes after civilians, their homes, cities, towns and villages. Then after telling some to abandon their neighborhoods, it cuts population centers off from each other by destroying transportation facilities into and inside Lebanon, making both refugee flight and delivery of emergency relief efforts either impossible or very difficult. Then its planes, tanks and artillery endanger or destroy what food, water and relief efforts manage to get through to the injured and dying. Warehouse food supplies are incinerated. About four hundred small fishing boats north of Beirut on the oil-polluted coastline were demolished as well.
All the above mayhem and much more have been reported in the U.S., European, Lebanese and Israeli media. The bulk of the fatalities in Lebanon have been civilians. The bulk of the fatalities on the Israeli side have been soldiers. Very fortunately for the Israelis, the Hezbollah rockets are very inaccurate, the vast majority falling harmlessly. Unfortunately for the Lebanese, the precision American armaments of the Israelis are very accurate, which serves to account for why the total casualties and physical destruction are 100 times greater in Lebanon than in Israel…

Connecticut’s Manchester Journal Inquirer reports that Sen. Joe Lieberman (De Facto R) today unleashed a vicious attack on Vermont Independent Congressman Bernie Sanders – a longtime progressive hero and the leading candidate to keep Vermont’s U.S. Senate seat out of GOP hands. According to the newspaper, the Lieberman campaign sent out an official email attacking, among others, Sanders and Markos Moulitsas Zuniga, founder of DailyKos.
From now on, I am going to be referring to Joe Lieberman as De Facto GOP Nominee Joe Lieberman and I urge everyone else covering this race to do so in the interest not of partisanship, but out of respect for objective accuracy.

How did the proletariat originate?
The Proletariat originated in the industrial revolution, which took place in England in the last half of the last (18th) century, and which has since then been repeated in all the civilized countries of the world.
This industrial revolution was precipitated by the discovery of the steam engine, various spinning machines, the mechanical loom, and a whole series of other mechanical devices. These machines, which were very expensive and hence could be bought only by big capitalists, altered the whole mode of production and displaced the former workers, because the machines turned out cheaper and better commodities than the workers could produce with their inefficient spinning wheels and handlooms. The machines delivered industry wholly into the hands of the big capitalists and rendered entirely worthless the meagre property of the workers (tools, looms, etc.). The result was that the capitalists soon had everything in their hands and nothing remained to the workers. This marked the introduction of the factory system into the textile industry.
Once the impulse to the introduction of machinery and the factory system had been given, this system spread quickly to all other branches of industry, especially cloth- and book-printing, pottery, and the metalindustries.

On the Jewish Question
Karl Marx, 1843
The German Jews desire emancipation. What kind of emancipation do they desire? Civic, political emancipation.
Bruno Bauer replies to them: No one in Germany is politically emancipated. We ourselves are not free. How are we to free you? You Jews are egoists if you demand a special emancipation for yourselves as Jews. As Germans, you ought to work for the political emancipation of Germany, and as human beings, for the emancipation of mankind, and you should feel the particular kind of your oppression and your shame not as an exception to the rule, but on the contrary as a confirmation of the rule.
Or do the Jews demand the same status as Christian subjects of the state? In that case, they recognize that the Christian state is justified and they recognize, too, the regime of general oppression. Why should they disapprove of their special yoke if they approve of the general yoke? Why should the German be interested in the liberation of the Jew, if the Jew is not interested in the liberation of the German?
The Christian state knows only privileges. In this state, the Jew has the privilege of being a Jew. As a Jew, he has rights which the Christians do not have. Why should he want rights which he does not have, but which the Christians enjoy?
In wanting to be emancipated from the Christian state, the Jew is demanding that the Christian state should give up its religious prejudice. Does he, the Jew, give up his religious prejudice? Has he, then, the right to demand that someone else should renounce his religion?
By its very nature, the Christian state incapable of emancipating the Jew; but, adds Bauer, by his very nature the Jew cannot be emancipated. So long as the state is Christian and the Jew is Jewish, the one is as incapable of granting emancipation as the other is of receiving it …
From the moment when Luther’s declaration of war against the Catholic hierarchy set into motion all the opposition elements of Germany, not a year passed without the peasants coming forth with their demands. Between 1518 and 1523, one local revolt followed another in the Black Forest and in upper Suabia. Beginning in the Spring of 1524, these revolts assumed a systematic character. In April of that year, the peasants of the Abbey of Marchthal refused serf labour and duties; in May of the same year, the peasants of St. Blasien refused serf payments; in June, the peasants of Steinheim near Memmingen declared they would pay neither the tithe nor other duties; in July and August, the peasants of Thurgau rebelled and were quieted partly through the mediation of Zurich, partly through the brutality of the confederacy which executed many of them. Finally, a decisive uprising took place in the Margraviate of Stuehlingen, which may be looked upon as the real beginning of the Peasant War.
The peasants of Stuehlingen suddenly refused deliveries to the Landgrave and assembled in strong numbers. On October 24, 1524, they moved towards Waldshut under Hans Mueller of Bulgenbach. Here they organised an evangelical fraternity, jointly with the city middle-class. The latter joined the Organisation the more willingly since they were in conflict with the government of Upper Austria over the religious persecutions of their preacher, Balthaser Hubmaier, a friend and disciple of Thomas Muenzer’s. A union tax of three kreutzer weekly was imposed. It was an enormous sum for the value of money of that time. Emissaries were sent out to Alsace, to the Moselle, to the entire Upper Rhine and to Franconia, to bring peasants everywhere into the Union. The aims of the Union were proclaimed as follows: abolition of feudal power; destruction of all castles and monasteries; elimination of all masters outside of the emperor. The German tricolour was the banner of the Union.

Police in Mexico have erected steel barriers around the Congress building in the capital after fighting broke out with political demonstrators.
Protesters had gathered to challenge the result of the presidential election but this was the first time since protests began that violence erupted.
The supporters of losing candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador are demanding a full recount of the vote.
Federal police have denied that they were heavy-handed.
At least eight people were injured in the scuffles which only lasted a few minutes but saw police us batons and teargas to break up the crowd.
The protestors say one senator suffered bruising to his ribs and a congressman had minor head wounds.
Federal police say they asked the protestors to move but they refused.

Is it necessary to repeat here the irrefutable arguments of Socialism which no bourgeois economist has yet succeeded in disproving? What is property, what is capital in their present form? For the capitalist and the property owner they mean the power and the right, guaranteed by the State, to live without working. And since neither property nor capital produces anything when not fertilized by labor – that means the power and the right to live by exploiting the work of someone else, the right to exploit the work of those who possess neither property nor capital and who thus are forced to sell their productive power to the lucky owners of both. Note that I have left out of account altogether the following question: In what way did property and capital ever fall into the hands of their present owners? This is a question which, when envisaged from the points of view of history, logic, and justice, cannot be answered in any other way but one which would serve as an indictment against the present owners. I shall therefore confine myself here to the statement that property owners and capitalists, inasmuch as they live not by their own productive labor but by getting land rent, house rent, interest upon their capital, or by speculation on land, buildings, and capital, or by the commercial and industrial exploitation of the manual labor of the proletariat, all live at the expense of the proletariat. (Speculation and exploitation no doubt also constitute a sort of labor, but altogether non-productive labor.)
I know only too well that this mode of life is highly esteemed in all civilized countries, that it is expressly and tenderly protected by all the States, and that the States, religions, and all the juridical laws, both criminal and civil, and all the political governments, monarchies and republican – with their immense judicial and police apparatuses and their standing armies – have no other mission but to consecrate and protect such practices. In the presence of these powerful and respectable authorities I cannot even permit myself to ask whether this mode of life is legitimate from the point of view of human justice, liberty, human equality, and fraternity. I simply ask myself: Under such conditions, are fraternity and equality possible between the exploiter and the exploited, are justice and freedom possible for the exploited?

Project Declaration to the Polish People
Polish brethren,
You have often revolted in order to reclaim your freedom and your blessed homeland, provoked into such an unequal struggle by the worst of governments; that of Saint-Petersbourg. We, the Russian people, have always held the firm conviction that the independence of Poland and the liberty of her children is inseparable from our own Russian cause and the emancipation of our country. We loathe as much as you, no, more than you, this German imperialist petersbourgeoisie that kills Russia and Poland in delivering them to the Prussians and the Germans; we are indignant at the extremities and the hardships to which our miserable soldiers are subjected in Poland, being blinded in their intoxication and always under the command of these same Germans, their chiefs. We come to you to share your plight; to fight with you in the name of our and your saintly freedom, or die with you in trying. And if necessary, we will gladly give our lives, because in dyeing, we would be aware that the idea of liberty could never die with us and that soon an emancipated Poland will fraternally extend its liberating hand to Russia.
Ahmadinejad: New Middle East should not include USA and Israel
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday that his nation favors the new Middle East to come true in absence of the United States and the occupying Zionist regime.
“The arrogant powers aim to create a new Middle East to grant free hand to the US, Britain and the Zionist regime.
“Those, who think they can violate the rights of nations through propaganda campaign and conspiracy from the overseas, should know that they are making a serious mistake, because, nations in the Middle East are awakened and are making headway to victory through reliance on God,” Ahmadinejad said.

Of all the revolutionary leaders, Emiliano Zapata was the most radical and the most committed to social justice. Detractors say that Zapata was a semi-literate brigand who allowed himself to be co-opted by city-bred radical intellectuals. These made him look ridiculous by putting his by-line on pronunciamientos containing names and ideas with which he could not possibly have been familiar: Hegel, Marx, Voltaire, John Stuart Mill, Emerson and Whitman, the Gracchi, Brutus, Marie Antoinette, Fourierism, Fabian Socialism, etc. There was even more laughter when an appeal went out over Zapata’s name to French Marshal Ferdinand Foch, the World War I hero, that he use his “powerful moral influence” in support of “the cause of the Mexican people.”
Is this picture accurate? Was Zapata simply an apolitical bush marauder who permitted a band of radical city slickers to manipulate him?

After being outmaneuvered in the politics of national security in the last two elections, Democrats say they are determined not to cede the issue this year and are working to cast President Bush as having diminished the nation’s safety.
“They are not Swift boating us on security,” said Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, the Democratic leader in the House.
Seeking to counter White House efforts to turn the reported terrorist plot in Britain to Republican advantage, Democrats are using the arrests of the suspects to try to show Americans how the war in Iraq has fueled Islamic radicalism and distracted Mr. Bush and the Republican Congress from shoring up security at home. They say they intend to drive that message home as the nation observes the coming anniversaries of Hurricane Katrina and the Sept. 11 attacks.
But they are not waiting. A video Monday on the Web site of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee showed footage of Osama bin Laden, referred to an increase in terror attacks, highlighted illegal immigration and pointed out the nuclear aspirations of Iran and North Korea.
“Feel safer?” it concludes. “Vote for change.”

Yes, our first ancestors, our Adams and our Eves, were, if not gorillas, very near relatives of gorillas, omnivorous, intelligent and ferocious beasts, endowed in a higher degree than the animals of another species with two precious faculties-the power to think and the desire to rebel.
These faculties, combining their progressive action in history, represent the essential factor, the negative power in the positive development of human animality, and create consequently all that constitutes humanity in man.
The Bible, which is a very interesting and here and there very profound book when considered as one of the oldest surviving manifestations of human wisdom and fancy, expresses this truth very naively in its myth of original sin. Jehovah, who of all the good gods adored by men was certainly the most jealous, the most vain, the most ferocious, the most unjust, the most bloodthirsty, the most despotic, and the most hostile to human dignity and liberty-Jehovah had just created Adam and Eve, to satisfy we know not what caprice; no doubt to while away his time, which must weigh heavy on his hands in his eternal egoistic solitude, or that he might have some new slaves. He generously placed at their disposal the whole earth, with all its fruits and animals, and set but a single limit to this complete enjoyment. He expressly forbade them from touching the fruit of the tree of knowledge. He wished, therefore, that man, destitute of all understanding of himself, should remain an eternal beast, ever on all-fours before the eternal God, his creator and his master. But here steps in Satan, the eternal rebel, the first freethinker and the emancipator of worlds. He makes man ashamed of his bestial ignorance and obedience; he emancipates him, stamps upon his brow the seal of liberty and humanity, in urging him to disobey and eat of the fruit of knowledge.

Thought you’d like a nice puke after dinner.
Starting at birth, a baby is subjected to many conditioning agents, ranging from the physical environment (electric socket, hot stove, steep stairs), to parents, babysitters teachers, and coaches (spankings, grades, high-fives and benching), to cultural totems and taboos, employers, and, in the industrialized world, mass media. The lessons of the environment and norms of the tribe shape lifelong psychological habits. But what if the psychological result of all this conditioning could be suspended and consciousness returned to its original state? What does experience feel like to a raw mind? Unfiltered by sociocultural manners, the empirical world essentially would be remade.
On today’s show, Al Franken had the idea of repealing the constitutional amendment prohibiting a President from serving more than two terms in office. He wants the Republicans to defend this amendment figuring that Bush’s low poll numbers would surely spell defeat for Bush. Seriously, maybe we ought to roll the dice and repeal the law and persuade Bill Clinton to run. Wouldn’t that be grand? Bill Clinton v. Geo W. Bush. Coolness :banana::banana: Take this Bush :fu:
The Alabama Republican party thugs are running a commercial against Democrat candidate for Governor Lucy Baxley calling her “to Liberal for Alabama!” I’ve posted a clip of the commerical on the video clip page of my site.
Several millions of years after the aquatic apes returned to the land they got an evolutionary boost from another source, according to Terence McKenna (who, by the way, makes no reference to the aquatic theory). In “Food of the Gods,” McKenna proposes that uniquely human consciousness and language evolved with the help of botanical catalysts. Early hominids, as they migrated to new territories and searched for new foods, would have sampled various unfamiliar objects growing around them, overcoming distaste when they got sufficiently hungry. Chimpanzees, for example, out of curiosity and especially if hungry, will tend to sniff and nibble objects in the environment, apparently testing them for palatability. Assuming that early hominids displayed similar behavior, McKenna argues that the presence of ungulates, including cattle, in the grassland environment would have set the stage for an encounter between early hominids and Stropharia Cubensis, a psilocybin-containing mushroom that grows in cattle manure. He cites research showing that psilocybin in small doses measurably improves visual acuity, which would have given hominids that developed a taste for the mushroom an adaptive advantage. Psilocybin is at large doses a powerful psychedelic drug and this property probably would have been discovered early on. Consequently, McKenna argues, the mystical/religious sensibility might have been born concomitant with human speciation.
Tripping Aquatic Apes….there’s an image.
Herbal hallucinogens have long been associated with mystical and religious experiences. I don’t think those who are looking for “the rapture” have experimented with them, however, because it’s obvious they never experienced much of a rapture in this life. So following this one can draw the conclusion that lack of psychedelics can lead to voting for George Bush. Actually it’s a stretch, but if you use the argument around a neocon it might confuse them enough to make them run away.
After the “Adam and Eve are gorillas” post, I was searching for William Burroughs’s writings on carnivorous ape ancestors. The above was the closest I came. (I have the Burroughs ape stuff on a recording.)

Rethugs talk in the same ways that I envision the Roman elite did in about 477 ad.. The Islamic countries could well be the next vandals while the Hispanics may well be the next Visigoths.
Why did Rome Fall?
There are some adherents to single factors, but more people think Rome fell because of a combination of such factors as Christianity, decadence, lead, monetary, and military problems. Even the rise of Islam is proposed by some who think the Fall of Rome happened at Constantinople.
Does this sound at all familiar..:gate::omg::jason::jason:

Bush has revealed how impotent we are. We can’t locate Bin Laden. We can’t make North Korea give up its Nuclear program. We can’t restore peace to Iraq, much less the Middle East. We can’t persuade Iranian President Ahmadinejad to give up his Nuclear ambitions. We have lost all credibility under Bush. I think Bush is insane enough to lead this country into all out war in the Middle East. I feel like I’m on a roller coaster with a maniac at the controls. He won’t STOP.
So the Visigoths take control of what is left of the USA?
Cnick .. historically fascist states have only ended because of a war which they LOST.. I don’t think Iraq and the war or terror are going to be those wars..I would hate to think of the manifestations of a real war that we might Lose.. Just like the Soviet Union did in Afghanistan in the 1990’s the US will bankrupt itself and destroy its military in the Middle East and be destroyed by the rise of China to be the worlds biggest economy over the next ten years. The thugs are merely filling their pockets in preparation for the the collapse.:eek::rant1:
Romans very interesting. Full of contradictions. Able to build a colliseum and then use it to slaughter men and beasts. And, they sure had their megalomaniac leaders. You’re right. It does sound familiar.
So unless Hillary wins the next election we may elect a Hispanic before we elect a woman to the Presidency. That is . . . if we’re still around as a country. After Bush . . . who knows . . .
Well I guess we best have fun whilst we can huh?
There was an article that came out just this week that shows that “minorities” are actually majorities in like 14 states. In Colorado the Denver metro area is now about 40% Hispanic.. first “pathway” to my mind (since I just thought “norm” ) is I use emos as literally the words they stand for and I speak (I guess) a bit ambiguous since it usually repreprsents many “levels” and how one would “think”, thus perceive. Does that help? I am a bit OC so I have my “teeth”:growl: into this. (I am called a Bit-Bull, since I don’t let go until “It computes”. The Romans also made their wine in lead vats. They drank a great deal of wine. It was served with every meal. Even the kids drank it. This may explain their literature alot of which was written by the Rethugs spiritual forebears.
The observation of rethug behaviour can easily lead one to believe that they are all sociopaths. We do not want that kind of person in a position of power at any level. I really don’t think an election is the way to get rid of them.. Like cockroaches they tend to just come back..:jason::jason::jason:
Bush is certainly playing the fear card.
Druid I’d love to interview you over the phone too. All here would be nice. Just take one after the other until I have podcasts of everyone here. Would be very cool.
There are a significant number of people in the US that thought what they heard at the RNC convention in 2004 was what they wanted their political party to be about.. I would have called in an air strike on Madison Square Garden..I could not believe people would rally around such garbage.. We really do need a war on American soil which we lose .. unfortunately wars don’t discriminate and cockroaches tend to survive.:gate::omg::jason:
Maybe taking a few examples from Negroponte or watching what is happening in Iraq would work better.:gate::omg::jason::jason:
I could go for an Air Strike on the rethugs. Just got to collect them all in one place. You are right in that they’d prolly survive. Like cockroaches!
Is this why ppl :40: and :bong:? And ppl wonder why I talk about putting a gun to my head or taking an overdose of something. The world is going cRaZy and there seems nothing we can do to stop it.
Perhaps this is natures way in cleansing the world? Starting over. Tear it down and start all over again.
Perhaps we “are” living in the end times. Only JC isn’t gonna come rescue us from the madness.
I was just watching Scarborough on MSNBC. The subject for discussion with Fund and O’Donnell was “Is Bush Stupid or Inarticulate?” On the screen, as they talked, was Is Bush an Idiot? Scarborough decided he was and sid he has heard this from Dems and Repugs alike. O’Donnell said he was stupid. Fund made an argument for bad policies and inarticulate but had to admit Bush didn’t have much. Then they got off on the number of Repug Pres’s who developed a reputation for stupidness, naming Bush, Reagan, Eisenhower and Ford. Scarborough said it can’t be that all the brains are on only one side of the aisle and Lunt retorted that you can’t name one Democrat with a reputation for being stupid.
Yes, I pinched myself several times. It all seems real enough. No Sillysiben in spite of descent from aquatic apes.
However, I have to admit that we have some stupid Dems here in Brooklyn..
Just put several piles of 1000 dollar bills at strategic points. The thugs will smell them and come to feed and like cockroaches in a trap you can dispose of them.:jason::jason::jason::jason:
:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2: Fred you’re to funny!
All the Dems voting to support Israel in the Lebanon conflict led me to think the source of the bad water in the south is in DC. You elect sane people to congress and in a year or less they become irrational.:gate::omg::jason::jason::eek::yuck::fustrate::paranoid:
Gee, I was feeling sory for the Rethugs. Imagine having to admit on the teevee that you’re a bunch of losers with idiot leaders.
Sue P are you sure??? :rofl2::rofl2:
And still it goes on and on…
I would tune in right now (except my cable is kaflooee) to see if I could catch that exchange.
Sillysiben sounds good too:knit:
Lyndon Johnson must have been the first DINO.. Vietnam was totally irrational He was a lot like Tom Delay in his dealings in the Senate.. everyone was afraid of him.:eek::yuck::fustrate::paranoid:
I really saw that on Scarborough. I hope somebody puts the video up somewhere. I’d watch it many more times. It was a sillysiben experience without the mushroom.
They still do, too.
Never thought of DC as being the South. Alabama does have its share of Dinosuars. Take Judge Roy Moore . . . please take him. What an imbecile. I wonder how I managed to escape the brainwashing?
re 185. I hope they’ve given up the lead fermenting vats. That could not have been good.
Astronomers have drafted a resolution which would change the number of planets in our solar system from nine to twelve, according to a story slated for Wednesday’s New York Times, RAW STORY has learned.
“Think our solar system has nine planets?” writes Dennis Overbye for the Times. “Try 12.”
“That’s the current number being proposed on Wednesday by leading astronomers, a move that would change what billions of schoolchildren are taught about their corner of the cosmos,” Overbye writes.
“Much-maligned Pluto would remain a planet — and its largest moon plus two other heavenly bodies would join Earth’s neighborhood — under a draft resolution to be formally presented to the International Astronomical Union, the arbiter of what is and isn’t a planet,” the article continues
================================
The Astronomy community was running out of major findings in the latter part of the last century.. Will this be their only contribution to this one.:eek::fustrate::paranoid: If the thugs have their way it won’t be long before the sun will again revolve around a flat earth.:eek::eek:
They’ll surely have a flat earth geocentric museum, too, to refute those reality based scientists.
Well I’ll talk to all of you again soon. Sleep well sheeple.
I have to go too. Tomorrow is another work day.. thrill thrill:eek::eek:
But Dems don’t have $1000 dollar bills. We’ll have to counterfeit them!
Thanks for taking me to the college today, Sblue. I think I’ll start getting it together:knit2:pretty soon.:peace:
Well guys….your links are just too good so Ive spent the past hour plus reading about sperms and taking the “ic” out of the Democrats…and writing to NARAL to protest their support of Lieberfuck…..and, what else? Oh watching Big Brother and Rockstar Supernova….
Im spent!
Actually Im taping the contender and Rescue me…and am just happy I mde it through today because Im feeling tired and like I cant breathe…which seems to be goign around here…sore throat and shortness of breath…its probably the nuclear power plant spitting out some toxin or something.
So now that Im half caught up, Im spent! (and I was even blog reading in one of Will’s waiting rooms for something like 45 minutes today…but on the palm so it was slow going….and then I lost my post, so gave up…)
And, yes, watch Scarborough scurry down the ropes with the other rats. Its actually almost bearable to watch him now that he hates bush….and Tucker is hilarious because he can say that he ALWAYS was against the war…fucking liberatarian…Id like to see little boy Tucker try to live in a Liberatarian world….
Travis…you’ll love college once you get through the mandatory classes….try to put off those a bit.
The Ged is easy too.
Will’s father hadnt graduated HS when I met him…not that he was that young…though he was young…but he had just gone to work. But he was nowhere near as smart as you and he breezed through it.
We just wnet over the book a bit and he went down and took it. The passing grade is pretty low actually….but I expect that you would do great, no problem.
Did Druid say last night that she had gone to Santa Cruz also?
She said SC….
Kat and I both went there…and another of my friends here also went there….
It is a great, arty, free form. school in the redwood forest.
Hey Travis- It was a fun free day for me and the only thing was the trauma of being in that school where I was when I found out Reagan was elected. It felt like some sort of nuclear winter at the time. It is a good place though and I had some of my best teachers there- like the philosophy professor Tom Kerns – Teaches stuff like Biomedical Ethics, Logic, and Death and Dying. He is still there. I think he is only teaching correspondence courses.
The Dems (which the only way to be for NOW:growl:) are to blame also and that is why we (YES ALL) MUST GET In Offices and Committees and Take Over :fist:hehehehehe:hubba:
You go girl!
:fist:
:fire:
😡
:knit:
There is just too much good stuff going on out there…the new swift boating of Lamont is gonna be that hes a commie
….I wish I wasnt so tired because Im working up a post for the blog and Jon Stewart is just so good…Will is watching with me….and next comes colbert….
whats a mom to do?
Daily Kos has a new thread that just says “joe scarborough is coming….” and then nothing….
one of the first comments on that was “I dont need to hear about Scarborough’s sex life.”…funny!
But I wonder what it means….
Melina, I know that cuz friends (strange 😮 friends) went there. 😥 but I had to leave my area to know me and eventually ended up 😮 yea Tojans although never went to a game — but was near and love the Marching Band. I ended up recently with Potter neck scarff and cap with tassel(s) (I got two thus around a mirrior and the only shirt I like with the Academic Emblem.
sblueheron :wink::cool:

Part 3 of the fascinating AAR thread over at the WFMU blog:
http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2006/08/air_america_vs_.html
The Professor has it right — biggest mistake AAR made was losing Maron.
😉
AIV???

Im too tired to figure your answer out.
nite all…Im so tired…
I had a pretty good meal tonight. Nothing came out at the dinner table :barf:that would have ruined the evening. So, I’m glad about that. How’s the rest of you?
Oh, I see. Well enough to quietly take the closest exit.
Hmm, I don’t know where this little blog rummer got started, but I did – I know it’s hard to believe- finish High School.:shock:And being high was the best part about it:bong:
Then that makes it easier. Just be careful, through school I married a few and even found mates (for others) hehehe :hubba:
… and you have no excuse, since you are brilliant with attittide
A.I.V. teehee
and I want you to surpass my blog numbers pretty PLEASE.
Melina., Alright I will be straight… guys you KNOW it is called ‘SC = USC=Trojans:hubba:=Wonderfuly known band=whatever=
AIV
Hey, how the fuck do you spell rummer!? I knew I shouldn’t have :bong: at school
I think it as Medicine, :bong: honestly. Eventially meditation and exercise. But an important medicine. Shoot even Tylenol (sp) causes kidney or liver damage, not MJ…
Rumor, BTW
Ok, ok! If you’re not going to correct me, Druid, then I guess I’ll have to do it… r-u-m-o-r, Right? There’s a pretty good dictionary where I’m at, here in S-e-a-t-t-l-e.
I really don’t have an attitude, Druid. Maybe we could meet when Maron comes here in September?:alc:
Druid! Throw it down. I don’t care about speelling.
Travis, I have attitude even before further teachings in school. 😆
I live in Northern California, did SBlueHeron give e-adr …:?:
I have unlimited calling…but I am a recluse, except if I get on one of the County’s Commission I will be public 😮 again as I was in L.A. — So you are making me “Open”:wink:
Hey, if you want to live in shell, that’s fine. I just figured you’d hop on the Maronade cavalcade.:fire:
I think it’s been over fifteen minutes. I may be in some blogger trouble:smack::nod:
neil’s new page
Oh, I guess the cavalcade is just for people in Oregon.
I was thinking about wolf spiders today for some reason
Quit bashing yersef in yer heed :fustrate:
No brown recluse, though?
I have made such progress in my work tonight -one row then the phone rang…
:rofl2:Ok
:knit2: I guess that’s just the way it goes
But Travis what are you supposed to be doing right now – late evening this is relaxation and research or working and reading and learning:tongue:
So no need for timers- just in the morning when you are trying to hit the pavement as Oliver twisty porridge.
Oh I need to find that spell checker setting.
No, hey, it’s cool. I can’t spell, either.
Um, I think you said you were going to get me post card in SF, right. Or did I imagine that? 🙄
I just missed Herself 🙁
I don’t know how to punctuate!
The same one?
If there is any way I will but I may not even get in to the city.
If so I will go to city light books.
Coolness:banana:

Herself = you in that moment-the Scottish way of respectful address I think though- also in a teasing way. I am starting to adopt your lovely syntax.

Maybe I should go back and edit that one:rofl2:

sblueheron re Northern Lights (we were at coast) it was like a living entity. Truely Awesome:!:
I have never seen the Northern lights but looked for them while in Scotland
But I have never seen Scotland or even Ireland 🙁

Hubby said BEST PIZZA:
Near Mt Baker, with old car on display, out front (snow around). On Coast it was in Port Hadlock — Austrian or German owner.
Ireland is IN ME but hope to see … I (my family) from County of Cork.
have never been to either but will look for them.
travis did we wear you out?
No, I’m in good shape.
Get with fresh real garlic, yum….regarding the Northern Lights David was debating with Travellers but I kept saying — look up it’s alive … then news said it was very unusal that low (dealing with Sun Spots).
I get no fun and I am in Hum Co …: I’m no fun = boring … :bong:: wink: see rats

Good Evening dear Friends:omg:
Travis re yesterday:
I hope those neocon dinosaurs would just die, and become extinct, so we could move into their homes. Maybe Moonlightman might think that was funny. No punch-line, you’re right. Oh, well.

Speaking about “Nevermore” Good Evening MoonLightMan:wink:

GOD I HATE THE EVIL BASTARD:mad:

Goodnight Travis, Moonlightand Druid:yawn:
