Well, if you’re out there in the LA area , and you’ve so far neglected to head out to the Irvine Improv to see Marc, you get another chance tonight. Only a couple of West Coast gigs left before Marc brings his act back to NYC (too bad it isn’t for a new radio show, but I reckon it’s about the best we’ll get – for now, anyway).
Thanks to Molly Ivins’ latest column, I’ve found a new favorite phrase to describe the traditional media (or at least the DC press corps), which she refers to as the “pusillanimous punditry.” Pusillanimous, indeed, with the exception of Helen Thomas. In fact, since the fairness doctrine was tossed aside in favor of news for profit, the pusillanimous punditry has been nothing but a perpetually pathetic parade of preposterous pricks performing like prevaricating puppets to prop up piglike politicians. Except for Mr FK, of course.
It’s Hump Day – you know what to do.

:priest:there is no such thing as global warming!
MEXICAN leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has said he will lead protests against last month’s presidential election for years if an electoral court officially declares his conservative rival the victor.
Speaking to a rally of thousands in Mexico City the leftist, who claims the election he narrowly lost to Felipe Calderon was fraudulent, said he would keep fighting even if the country’s electoral court ruled against him.
A partial vote recount at 9 per cent of polling stations ordered by the court last week is due to be completed today.
The court must declare a new president by September 6.
“We will not allow an illegitimate and illegal government to be installed in our country,” Mr Lopez Obrador said.
“We are prepared to resist for as long as is necessary, and we could be here for years if the circumstances merit it.”

Hmm . . . So I guess you thought I wouldn’t read that one Travis? Talking about my lack of str8ness when I’m in bed asleep whilst you night owls are giving moonlightman the once, twice and three times over on his true identity! MLM = MM. I don’t thinky. For all you know I’m MM or maybe I’m MLM. Does anyone really know?
ontario CA tonight for robert schimmel
wow so travis was talking about something pretty not straight huh/
more schimmel
So am I really the only unStr8 man on this blog? If so, I am very alone. But surrounded by weirdo’s, very nice ones of course. We all have our ways. Good morning ladies and gentlemen! I hope some of you got some sleepy time last night. I had all manner of weird, nonsensical dreams and stuff.
:fire:ok i think i am really out now!
friggin i had malloy on in the truck and i dreamed me and him were sitting on an aircraft carrier chatting very weird dream we got caught too fucked up dream but mikes a very nice guy to sit and chat with in a dream
Hey Sean aka Jeffy
Hey Cnick.. …Morning
We are all NSA operatives trying to catch each other for all I know..
I really don’t think Bushco cares unless we are those terrible Muslims.. Regular Americans could never be terraists. :rofl2::hubba::hubba:
Mike is kind of scary looking though. He does have a good rant. I guess you could say he can throw down with the best?
Morning Fred! How goes it?
malloy reminds me of johnny cash well the way he looks reminds me of johnny cash during his last dys
How is Wilma, Barney and Betty?
I may be “straight” but I’ll never fit into the norm…. Jewish pagan rebel artist … I’m sure there are other adjectives of weirdness .that go with that but I’m too tired to think of them now…
Malloy looks like he stressed out one to many times.:eek::eek::rant1:
He kinda looks worse for the wear. Like he’s had a very rough time of it worried about the rethugs or something. I be taking the day off. So WATCH out Travis. I’m watching and reading!
Fred, re 29, 30, 32 Thx
:barf::growl::fustrate::growl::fist::jason:
regular Americans could never be terrorists, unless they’re “liberals” or belong to liberal groups…in which case they’re helping terrorists so basically the same thing…
:banana:Yeah Susan Joy is up!:banana: I feel like Druid this morning.
Stoppped by to say hello. Now I’ve got to run.
Later.
😐 so this is a terrorist web site?
waaa! I want to take the day off. Instead I have to work late again. I’ve been so out of the news loop lately I feel like I dropped in from another planet. Good morning all, though.
I think Travis has led a very sheltered existence up there in Alaska..Living in Seattle should change his attitudes.. unless he ends up out on the street…. Humm that could really change his attitude..:alc::omg::eek::eek::yuck:
Re 61: Didn’t you know SeanMS?
well it is a dissident website. Doesn’t Wikipedia describe us as “anti Air America” or something like that? Oh yes, and conservatives look at all of us like the enemy, so we’re lumped together with those “darker” people from the middle east by many of them, I’m sure…
:nod:im out really!

In April 2005, the studio of an AAR affiliate in Warren, Ohio, WANR-AM, was briefly occupied by a group that changed the locks and began broadcasting Christian programming until the police forced them to leave. [8] A few weeks later, the group seeking to switch the station’s format to Christian programming was able to purchase the station, and the Air America programming was discontinued.
:fu:fucking crazy “christians”
Heh heh heh .. The UN can’t round up 15,000 troops to go to Lebanon.. all they get in response to their request is “who us :eek::eek::crap:”
I think Druid is ignoring me! I guess I’ll find a corner and go sit down. 🙁

When all the oil runs out and we’re left with our pants down cause BIG oil wants to drain the pockets dry of all us normal and abnormals and some who foolishly drive SUV’s then where willst we be? Life won’t be the same n e more. China and the US chasing after a limited natural resource. Finite does not equal infinite. We were warned. But we did notta. Just sit back in our cars and trucks and had a gay ole time. Now the joy ride is over. What are you gonna do with those superhighways now that we’re running on empty?
:priest: all fake christians will burn in a lake of fire!

I wonder if the Russians have any surplus guided missile cruisers lying around they would sell cheap.. :?::?::?:
We need to raise money over the Internet to buy the Lebanese army some anti aircraft missiles..
:gate::omg::jason::jason::jason::jason::fist:
So we sit back on our park benches and watch the squirrels run around chasing one anothers tails and doing what comes naturally. We smile. We tan our bodies in the park on a blanket with a friend. Toss a fresbie or a stick to our doggie to impress a friend. “You’re dog sure is smart!” “Yes, he is.” We stopped watching television long ago. It was to depressing to watch all those people killing one another. We liked the leisure. We liked life simpler. A cool breeze blowing across our naked skin. Peace. A happy time. A happy place. No more darkness.
I wonder if Venezuela or Iran would finance a pirate fleet of maybe ten heavy WWII navy vessels up graded to shoot down modern aircraft..if no western nations have any balls maybe just a bunch of us normal Americans will.. :gate::omg::jason::jason::jason::fist::fist:
Let’s destroy the world. Tear it down and make it new again. Revive the spirit. So you say you want a revolution . . . .
One day in the near future the people sun bathing in the park will get a reverse 911 phone call on their cell phone .. they will then saturate the 911 system with calls complaining about the gross violation of their privacy.. for about 20 minutes.. ( insert emo of mushroom cloud here):eek::eek::yuck::yuck::crap:
Ok lets setup a movement to give California, Nevada and Arizona back to the Navajoes .. ..then give the Navajoes nuclear weapons.. that should fix things up pretty quickly..:eek::crap:
So I layed my head in the lap of my friend whilst we gathered some rays in the park. It was a happy time. I thought about all the people in the outland who would never know the peaceful bliss. I was sad for a moment and then I lost the thought. Happiness has a way of taking ones mind off the darkness of the outland. I fought that battle long ago. My time is done. Now I lay here with my friend. We enjoy a basket of fruit. We laugh. We chase one another around the park. Like when we were five years. Children. We can smile again. All here have known the horror’s of the war of the outland. We have shared in its misery. Now our time has arrived. The barriers will protect us for awhile longer. Then the darkness will engulf even us. (copyright cnickthomas)
cnickthomas, :Tea :joe:Cheers, :billcat: I’m still here , but I have Rat “Mansions” I am cleaning and have to stay awake through 9:30am, since I have to call to see description regarding 3 different County Commissions( :growl: and the woman doesn’t work “Grave”:( ) plus had to give strays water and more food since Raccoons “played” with water.;-)
The rethugs are so wound up in there hypocrisy.. its all the democrats fault for not supporting our puppet governments in the middle east in the 1970’s allowing these terrible Muslims to come to power….what they conveniently leave out is the except for the one we had to overthrow because he was getting out of control part.:fu::fu::fu::gate::omg::jason::jason::yuck:
Ewwwww another balding beady eyed rethug.. talking about terrorism.. The reason we haven’t had another 911 is because Bushco caused it to happen..:gate::omg::jason::jason::jason::barf::crap::yuck::eek::fustrate::paranoid:
Goodness Druid! You have a rat problem. I recall an old film called, “Willard” about rats. Not the remake, the original film. Was a scary movie. But I felt bad for the rats and wanted them to win. Like an underrat instead of an underdog so-to-speak. Always had empathy for these kind of people and their metaphors.
“Where your nightmares end . . . Willard’s begin!” (insert scary music here.)
Well if I want to throw up I guess I can go over and listen to Marvin instead of watching all these rethugs spounting their views on the world.. :barf::barf::barf::crap::yuck::mad::eek::fustrate::paranoid::gate::omg::jason::jason::jason:

CnickThomas, yep I really have a Rat problem since they are all Precious Gems. These were “Dead Rats Walking” on there way to the “pound” and I said no and a few days later then there were seven. 😎 since They Had A Home and were SAFE. Sweet Rats. But I teased Melina’s Will (through Melina) to be nice to her and asked if he heard of BEN TeeHee. They do get Big, the Male Rats. The Female Mother is Dharma, Karma (who was older) died, after had him awhile and the babies now extremely large are Emerald, Ruby (the males) Diamond, Opal, and Pearl = all my Precious Gems. I do love:love: walking with some of them since the looks are hysterical :rofl2: all cats are fixed ex-strays and feed and catch other strays. Danu (Green Dragon Dharma) is very patient although would love to eat th Rats:eek:…Melina that’s why a parrot could “teach” the cats and hybrid how to behave. :rofl2::cool:

It’s pretty bad when you really want to get that reverse 911 phone call.:eek::yuck::gate::omg::jason::jason:
Am I a religious man? :priest: Do I look like a religious man? :yuck:
Coolness Druid. So you recall “Ben” also? Neat-O I thought I was the only one who’d remember that old movie. “Ben, the two of us need look no more. We’ve both found what we were looking for. Ben (blah blah blah blah) I used to say. I am me. Now its us. Now its we.” – whilst Michael continues to sing I watch Ben eating Willard’s remains. “Tasty was it Ben?”
So Druid? You never answered my question! Doesn’t anyone in here want to humor me and do a podcast with me? I am harmless. I promise.
So you take the RATS for walks? Like dogs on a leash?

I’m doing a new podcast around 2 or 3 o’clock this afternoon (CT). I’d like to talk to one of you guys or gals on the telephone and include the talk in my next podcast. I think it would be fun. If someone on here is game . . . let me know. I’m not going to make anyone on here look n e more foolish than I make myself look. Maybe I should stike that remark. O well. Just think it would be cool and fun to record conversations of you all on here to share with the other bloggers. We are after all one BIG happy loving family, aren’t we? I’ll go sit in the corner of the room till someone else shows up and wants to talk to me.
I put in my longish hair with there tails out or their faces :rofl2: (I never had Rats before :rofl2:) but grand fun. I am or was cuz (with a snapping Z) “I am in town now” eek and might be going public again 😮

I will still be asleep since I have to stay up until around 9:30am or so.
I can talk to anyone at anytime of the day. I am just putting the podcast together at 2 or 3. So I can talk right now if need be. Or later. Whenever. Time is not the issue. At least not so for me. Also I have unlimited long distance calling. So I can call you if need be. No long distance charges on your part. Talk as long as I want to without any charges. Its a Bellsouth feature I pay twentysomething dollars a month for and is little used. But will come in handy if I can just get someone to do this podcast with me. The more the merrier.

Well I was gonna listen to Steph but this thingy thing doesn’t seem to want to work right today damn it to hell. And all that’s on Air America is “Springer on the Radio.” Choices choices. Maybe I should just pop in a porn flick. That’ll take about a minute or two out of my day. CNN would just piss me off. These porported liberal news networks seem to have bought into the Bush line. Springer does treat his call ins with a little more respect than Randi. So I guess I should go to the gym and run on the treadmill since I can’t bring myself to run outside. Or I could walk down to the pool for a mid morning swim or perhaps catch some rays before it gets hot out later.
Hey Kristapea! How are ya?
Hey Cnick! :peace:
The video from Rawstory of Scarborough, Funt and O’Donnell discussing wheher Bush is an idiot is not the whole segment. It really needs to be watched in its entirety ’cause every bit of it is amazing. It certainly marks a new low for Bush Inc.
Crooks and Liars has video but I can’t get it to open which may very well be MY problem. I often contemplate giving my computer flying lessons but it’s very heavy.
MSNBC publishes transcripts but the transcript for last night’s show isn’t up yet.
I watched Scarborough last night, quite by accident. He comes on after Olberman and he led with the Bush Idiot segment so I didn’t turn him off. It was stunning. These guys have defended every awful position and action of Bush. NOW they debate whether or not he has brains and basically come to the conclusion that he IS an idiot.
It’s good comedy and a measure of where the Rethugs are now.
Glad to have you back! Coolness.
I’m listening to Charles Goyette. He’s pretty good. He has a guy on talking about art and science and intelligent design. Goyette is more of a Libertarian I guess but he’s really great at arguing with neocons and he has been against the war since the beginning.

Group Says Iran Is ‘Not a Crisis’
Former generals and officials seek to prevent an attack on suspected nuclear sites and to overhaul policies toward Tehran and Baghdad.

WASHINGTON — Seeking to counter the White House’s depiction of its Middle East policies as crucial to the prevention of terrorist attacks at home, 21 former generals, diplomats and national security officials will release an open letter tomorrow arguing that the administration’s “hard line” has actually undermined U.S. security.

BOSTON – An overseas flight from London’s Heathrow Airport to Washington, D.C. was diverted to Boston on Wednesday after the pilot declared an emergency because of a passenger disturbance, the airline said.
A female passenger aboard United Flight 923 had Vaseline, a screw driver, matches and a note referencing al-Qaida, according to Phil Orlandella, spokesman for Boston’s Logan International Airport.
The flight, with 182 passengers and 12 crew members landed safely, United spokesman Brandon Borrman said. Borrman said a female passenger was spotted engaging in some “suspicious” activity, but he could not immediately say what the activity was.

Hmm. So, St. Paul is angry city #54, yet Minneapolis is all the way down at #77? Must be Garrison Keillor’s singing – it’s driving everybody right up the fucking wall. He’s a lot like Al Franken that way (somebody should tell these guys, just ‘cuz you have a radio show doesn’t mean you should sing). Now that Al’s back in Minneapolis, things should even out again.
Buffalo’s #37 (everybody’s still pissed off at Scott Norwood for missing that field goal), and Rochester’s all the way down there at #86 (Syracuse, of course, didn’t make the top 100; we’re too tired from shovelling snow to get pissed for long).

Glad to hear Mr made it back OK. Never had the pleasure of flying Air France, but Al Italia is oh-for-two with my bags (managed to lose ’em one time so bad that I made it home two days before my bags did). But they give you as many bottles of wine as you want (good size ones, too) on the flight, so I give them points for that. My favorite is Lufthansa, though (especially the flight where they bumped me up to bidness class) – free Wharsteiner Dunkelbier, no matter how short the flight is. Yurp is definitely more civilized.

Bush Said to Be Frustrated by Level of Public Support in Iraq
By THOM SHANKER and MARK MAZZETTI
Published: August 16, 2006
WASHINGTON, Aug. 15 — President Bush made clear in a private meeting this week that he was concerned about the lack of progress in Iraq and frustrated that the new Iraqi government — and the Iraqi people — had not shown greater public support for the American mission, participants in the meeting said Tuesday.
I don’t know why those Iraqis are such ingrates. Or, perhaps, Bush is an IDIOT just as Scarborough said.

Re airlines and baggage: I’ve just been looking at the web site for LuggageForward (mentioned in a NY Times article on the new problems connected with flying). The company picks up your bags (including sports equipment) at your home, office, or hotel and delivers them to your destination (hotel or whatever); you can even arrange for your bags to get to your hotel the day before you check in. Not cheap, but it sounds good. No lugging bags to and from the airport. No long check-in lines, etc. No fears of your luggage arriving at a different destination than you do. I’m not planning on any air travel before fall 2007, but I think I am going to build the cost of LF into my plans. Anything to ease the stress and anxiety of air travel (I haven’t set foot on an airplane since the early 1990s).
I don’t know how long LF has been in business, but it seems like one of those really great ideas that make life easier, up there with FedEx, ATMs, and Netflix.
Re #170: Oh, those ungrateful Iraqis. :spank: How can they be soooo unappreciativeof our “mission”? After all we’ve done for them: killing lots of them, blowing up their homes, liberating them from electricity and clean water, destabilizing their country, enabling civil war.
I wonder who W’s “private meeting” was with. His psychopharmacologist?
According to Tony Snow, Bush is reading Camus’s L’Etranger (but en Anglais) in between bouts of clearing brush. And Snowjob says that he and W had a very interesting conversation :bong: about the origins of existentialism, Camus, and Sartre. OMFG!!!!:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:
We need Marc to do a riff on this. And perhaps Lawton could chime in with praise for Two Terms Mandate’s intellectual prowess.
“There’s an old saying by John Paul Sarter that goes, ‘I think I am, uh, therefore I, uh, thought I, um, can’t get fooled again.'”
Yes, I heard that Bush is reading Camus. I think it’s the Classic Comic’s version. He also had a conference, according to Snowjob, probably the same meeting as the one in which he expressed his dismay at the lack of Iraqi gratitude, where they were reviewing the state of things, and talking about the “innovations they’ve made.
I feel better now.
Very well put, pjsauter.

:rofl2:
I think kitty litter is made of clay. Does much better in a landfill than one’s plumbing.
Well, they make this (rather expensive) clumping cat litter that’s flushable, and would seem to be better than hauling it to the dump (ours doesn’t generally wind up in the landfill, but instead into our garbage burning incinerator). I would like to get our dumpable trash down to what Ed Begley Jr. can do, and cat shit seems to be our biggest contributor (by weight, at least). However, the flushable stuff is way too expensive. We have a doggy compost hole, and have considered doing something like that for the cats, but unlike the dog, the cats prefer to crap in a box (several boxes, I believe, though I tend to remain blissfully ignorant in regard to the feline waste management system, apart from trying to “load balance” the bags into which it eventually goes) inside the house.
So, anyway, it just seems there ought to be a better way, but the cat shit hole in the backyard may not be such a good idea either, from what I’ve read, and downright inconvenient in the winter (a few dog “fudgies” out in the snow is OK, but having to trudge through the snow carrying a plate of kitty burgers in order to find and uncover the hole in the ground would be quite a bit more of a hassle.
Whenever I empty the kitty litter pans it always occurs to me that this is what I get for feeding them. But, I just can’t see away around that, which the cats would approve of.

2-St. Petersburg, Fla.
Hey, FUCK this poll! FUCK YOU! And FUCK ALL YOU GUYS TOO! We are NOT ANGRY!!!
SO FUCK YOU!!!!!:fu::fu::fu:
But seriously, folks…
I’m not sure what’s up with all the FL cities in the top 10. The traffic in Orlando is horrible around the theme parks, but if traffic was the main consideration, Miami would be #1 easily. People down there drive like savages, and when I say people I mean EVERYBODY.
I spent a week down there several years ago to take a training session, and by the end of the week I was rolling through traffic lights and flipping off other drivers along with everyone else. It’s very contagious.
No way St Pete is ahead of Miami. And where the hell is Tampa? The traffic is a LOT worse on that side of the bay. Although we do have the seniors puttering along at 20 MPH in a 40 zone in the left lane with the right turn signal on, which gets annoying.
Maybe all the FL cities in the top 10 are due to Jeb. He makes me angrier than any traffic. The thought of him someday running for president or VP makes my BLOOD BOIL!
And where is Atlanta, speaking of horrible traffic? Not to mention that Malloy should put them in the top 10 all by himself.
So in conclusion, this poll is FULL OF SHIT! WE ARE NOT ANGRY! FUCK YOU!!!

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, in Pittsburgh to address the World Affairs Council, recalled memories of Sep. 11 while referring ominously to a stateless enemy hidden in American towns.
“The most dramatic chan
ge,” said Gonzales, “is the nature of the enemy our country today faces — a stateless enemy sometimes hidden and nurtured here in our neighborhoods, taking advantage of the very laws they mock with their killing and destruction, as a shield from detection and prosecution.”
Gonzales, further emphasizing the perceived domestic danger, stated, “The threat of homegrown terrorist cells may be as dangerous as groups like al Qaeda, if not more so.
“It is therefore essential that we continue to develop the tools we need to investigate their actions and intentions with the help of our partners, and prosecute those who travel down the road of radicalization.”

Democratic Web Ad Angers Some Hispanics
By SUZANNE GAMBOA
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) — A Democratic political ad is under fire from Hispanics who say it unfairly compares Latino immigrants to terrorists.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee sponsored a 35-second ad on its Web site that shows footage of two people scaling a border fence mixed with images of Osama Bin Laden and North Korea President Kim Jong Il.
Pedro Celis, chairman of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly, said in a statement Tuesday that the DSCC should remove the ad because it vilifies illegal Hispanic immigrants and is “appalling.”
Houston City Councilwoman Carol Alvarado, a Democrat, sent a letter to DSCC Chairman Sen. Charles Schumer of New York asking that the ad be pulled. She said it could alienate Latino voters.

And now for the local news .. all the news all afternoon.
(CNN) — Authorities have arrested a “possible suspect” in the decade-old JonBenet Ramsey murder investigation, law enforcement sources told CNN on Wednesday.
An investigator with the Boulder County, Colorado, District Attorney’s office is bringing the man from Bangkok, Thailand, CNN Denver affiliate KUSA reported.
Sources tell CBS News that he is a 41-year-old American and second-grade schoolteacher and that he will be brought back to the United States this weekend.
The man was being held in Bangkok on sex charges, sources told The Associated Press.
Prosecutors in Boulder have not confirmed the person’s identity but are expected to hold a news conference later today.
KUSA reported that a man they call a suspect was arrested Wednesday morning and has confessed to certain elements of the crime that are unknown to the general public, KUSA reported.
JonBenet’s beaten and strangled body was found in the basement of the family home in Boulder, Colorado, the day after Christmas in 1996. She was 6.
A grand jury investigation into the death of the child beauty pageant winner ended without charges in 1999.
The investigation focused a spotlight on the child’s parents, John and Patsy Ramsey. Patsy Ramsey died in June of ovarian cancer. She was 49.
The Ramseys said an intruder committed the crime, but they remained the subject of suspicion and speculation.
In 2003 a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit against the Ramseys, blaming the police and the FBI for bungling the investigation. The Boulder County District Attorney’s Office concurred with the judge’s opinion the following month, saying there was little evidence against the couple
The Ramseys left Colorado and had a house in Charlevoix, Michigan, where John Ramsey unsuccessfully ran for office in 2004, and in Atlanta, Georgia.

The man arrested in the JonBenet Ramsey murder case is a 41-year-old American second-grade schoolteacher, CBS reports.

Colombia arrests right-wing paramilitary leaders
BOGOTA, Colombia (Reuters) – Colombian police on Wednesday jailed the country’s top right-wing paramilitary commanders two days after President Alvaro Uribe threatened to extradite them if they did not live up to a peace deal.
The move was intended to help end Colombia’s four-decade-old guerrilla war and ensure continued support from the United States, which has given the country billions of dollars in aid.
Up to now, the heads of the far right United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, or AUC, which terrorized this Andean country in the name of fighting left-wing rebels and is accused of drug trafficking, had been free to travel around with bodyguards in luxury vehicles and had been seen regularly by witnesses in high-priced shopping districts.
Top commander Salvatore Mancuso and at least six other AUC leaders were arrested or turned themselves in on Wednesday.

The institute is a training facility operated in the Spanish language, especially for Latin American military personnel. Around 60,000 people, roughly 1,000 per year, have taken courses. The SOA was renamed to WHISC, in 2001, as part of the National Defense Authorization Act.

Lawsuit Against Chomsky/Herman And The Level That The Kurdish Problem Has Reached
by Aram Yayincilik ; August 13, 2006
The translation of Noam Chomsky’s and Edward S. Herman’s book Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of Mass Media – a book considered as a masterpiece worldwide – which is translated by Aram Yayincilik has been sued in Turkey.
Within the context of the lawsuit, the owner of Aram Publishing House Fatih Tas, the two editors, and the translator of the book will be judged and demanded from 1,5 to 6 years imprisonment sentences. The indictment claims that the accused persons violated Article 301 and Article 216 of Turkish Penal Code. According to this, Noam Chomsky and Edward Herman “openly humiliates Turkishness, Turkish Republic, Turkish Parliamen , Turkish Army and Turkish security forces”. They are also charged with “inciting ethnic hostilities and hatred among population”.
According to the indicment, Chomsky and Herman commit that crime by this way: the writers, in the updated introduction of the 2002 edition of the book, make a comparison between US mass media coverage of the atrocities committed by Serbia against Albanians and by Turkey against Kurds in the 1990’s. The ethnic cleansing in Kosovo against Albanians is really miniscule in size when compared to Turkey. It is estimated that approximately 2-3 thousands of deaths have occured in Kosovo. Yet in Turkey’s war against Kurds 30,000 people have died and 2-3 millions of Kurds have been expelled. In spite of this, the mass media gives large coverage to the atrocities in Kosovo and uses, rather frequently, the terms of “ethnic cleansing” and “genocide”. Yet when it comes to Turkey – the client state and a NATO ally of USA – both the atrocities are given little coverage and the accusatory terms are pronounced so rarely…
I don’t know anymore than I did before cause I donno Jason either!
The lawsuit against Noam Chomsky and Edward Herman is only one within lawsuits against many publishers, writers and journalists in Turkey. Especially last year, there has been a dramatic rise in the number of suits threatening freedom of thought. In Turkey, between 2000-2005, 284 books were confiscated. Merely this year, 22 publishers, 47 writers, 49 books have been adjudicated. 11 of these charges have been aquitted, but 11 have been convicted, 2 of them were nolle prosequi. Lawsuits about 25 books are being executed. The oppression especially on the dissident publishing and the Kurdish media has increased. Aram Publishing House, which describes itself as a component of the Kurdish opposition, is engaged in many other lawsuits. Recently, the publication and distribution of Free Agenda (Özgür Gündem), the newspaper which is an important component of the Kurdish opposition, has been banned from publication and distribution for 15 days, via the jurisdiction of the new Anti-terror Act. It is stated that the prosecutors will not let this paper survive.
In Turkey, the violation of freedom of thought – especially heavy sanctions on independent media and Kurdish media – is observed in periods that the oppression and human rights violations increase. The aim is, as Noam Chomsky and Edward Herman examples in their book, to prevent the publicly announcement of heavy human rights violations carried out by security forces.

Here is the transcript of Scarborough from last night. It started like this:
“We have those stories and a lot more, but first former pop star Linda Ronstadt, you remember, “You‘re no good, you‘re no good, baby, you‘re no good. Well, Linda has joined the long list of celebrities and other public figures who berated President Bush for his lack of intelligence. But it is not just singers and movie stars who are suggesting that George Bush‘s mental weakness is damaging America‘s credibility at home and abroad.
Ronstadt said this earlier: “The Dixie Chicks said they were embarrassed he was from Texas.I‘m embarrassed George Bush is from the United States [The president] is an idiot. He‘s enormously incompetent, on both the domestic and international scenes.”
That is, no doubt, a sentiment that is shared in some of the capitals of our friends and foes alike. Maybe because the president has such a long history of public gaffs, but is that evidence that George W. Bush is stupid or just inarticulate.

Merav Yudilovitch: You say the provocation and counter-provocation all serve as a distraction from the real issue. does the war in Lebanon is also a distraction the aims to draw the world’s attention to the north of Israel while Gaza is been destroyed?
Noam Chomsky: I assume you are referring to John Berger’s letter (which I signed, among others).
The “real issue” that is being ignored is the systematic destruction of any prospects for a viable Palestinian existence as Israel annexes valuable land and major resources (water particularly), leaving the shrinking territories assigned to Palestinians as unviable cantons, largely separated from one another and from whatever little bit of Jerusalem is to be left to Palestinians, and completely imprisoned as Israel takes over the Jordan valley (and of course controls air space, etc.). This program of “hitkansut,” cynically disguised as “withdrawal,” is of course completely illegal, in violation of Security Council resolutions and the unanimous decision of the World Court (including the dissenting statement of US Justice Buergenthal). If it is implemented as planned, it spells the end of the very broad international consensus on a two-state settlement that the US and Israel have unilaterally blocked for 30 years – matters that are so well documented that I do not have to review them here.
The US and Israel do not tolerate any resistance to these plans, preferring to pretend – falsely of course – that “there is no partner,” as they proceed with programs that go back a long way. We may recall that Gaza and the West Bank are recognized to be a unit, so that if resistance to Israel’s destructive and illegal progams is considered to be legitimate within the West Bank, then it is legitimate in Gaza as well, in reaction to Israeli actions in the West Bank.
To turn to your specific question, even a casual look at the Western press reveals that the crucial developments in the occupied territories are marginalized even more by the war in Lebanon. The ongoing destruction in Gaza – which was rarely seriously reported in the first place — has largely faded into the background, and the systematic takeover of the West Bank has virtually disappeared. The severe punishment of the population for “voting the wrong way” was never considered problematic, consistent with the long-standing principle that democracy is fine if and only if it accords with strategic and economic interests, documented to the heavens. However, I would not go as far as the implication in your question that this was a purpose of the war, though it clearly is the effect.

I thought MLM was initials for moonlightman.
Don’t Shoot the Messenger.
The latest chapter of the conflict between Israel and Palestine began when Israeli forces abducted two civilians, a doctor and his brother, from Gaza. An incident scarcely reported anywhere, except in the Turkish press. The following day the Palestinians took an Israeli soldier prisoner – and proposed a negotiated exchange against prisoners taken by the Israelis – there are approximately 10,000 in Israeli jails.
That this “kidnapping” was considered an outrage, whereas the illegal military occupation of the West Bank and the systematic appropriation of its natural resources – most particularly that of water – by the Israeli Defense (!) Forces is considered a regrettable but realistic fact of life, is typical of the double standards repeatedly employed by the West in face of what has befallen the Palestinians, on the land allotted to them by international agreements, during the last seventy years.
Today outrage follows outrage; makeshift missiles cross sophisticated ones. The latter usually find their target situated where the disinherited and crowded poor live, waiting for what was once called Justice. Both categories of missile rip bodies apart horribly – who but field commanders can forget this for a moment?
Each provocation and counter-provocation is contested and preached over. But the subsequent arguments, accusations and vows, all serve as a distraction in order to divert world attention from a long-term military, economic and geographic practice whose political aim is nothing less than the liquidation of the Palestinian nation.
This has to be said loud and clear for the practice, only half declared and often covert, is advancing fast these days, and, in our opinion, it must be unceasingly and eternally recognized for what it is and resisted.

You can‘t come up with one. They‘re aren‘t any. So, it‘s only Republicans who develop this dumb image. Some of them really are dumb. Last year I wandered into an antiquarian bookshop in Charing Cross Road where I came upon a small, yellowing volume entitled ‘Jews Without Money ’ by Michael Gold, penned in 1930. On the train to Bournemouth a few days ago for my first holiday in many a moon, I set about reading this little book. It is not often that I am oblivious to the scenery around me in this ‘green and pleasant land’ but Gold’s book was so captivating that I was transported to the Lower East Side of New York in a mere flash and forgot I was on a train coursing through rural Dorset in England.
Recounting life as a young boy in New York in the years leading up to the Great Depression, ‘Jews Without Money’ is at times painfully graphic with its descriptions of the abject squalor in which these immigrants lived. Brutally frank, often stomach-turning accounts of life in the rat-infested ghettoes that teemed with penniless Jews are juxtaposed with hilarious stories of family gatherings for mitzvot and political debates. (The poverty of that era inspired many immigrants to embrace Socialist ideals, with some emigrating to Palestine.)
This blog is getting to sophisticated for me. I feel so stupid when I read all these words on here.
SJ-
Go to the White Plains Library, and find a copy of Gold’s book. Then await further instructions.
:omg:
Wonder if I can get the counter up to five hundred tonight?
there are Jews without money? Sheesh. Oh…my grandparents…yeah. Oh…me, yeah.
That’s what they said about the Italians, too.
it’s not in their catalog, I’ll have to look elsewhere…
I’ll just order it from Barnes and Noble…members price for paperback,
$8.05
:blech:
Oh, cool, what did he say, Sean?
i was asking if there were any shows that werent on the schedule he said he might be in NYC on the dates i mentioned
I have it in original hardback, 1930. The Communists published it.
:omg:
and then there was an answer about my Dane Cook question. which basically amounts to why dont comedians like Dane? but i cant put the answer to that up here (since its a comment about somebody that wasnt meant for public consumption)
If you’re done cookin’, why can’t we eat it up?

Moonlightman is (or said he was) in the L.A. area. That is on what I based my erroneous theories about MM or JE.
Travis were you ever able to break free from the bridge convention?
Fine, just stomp on my theories. It’s cool. No, I’m still hiding up here on the second floor. I think pretty soon I’ll attempt to look in the fridge, but i can probably hold out for a couple more hours
I don’t think the three otters in this town (Seatle) stand a cat’s crap chance. :crap:
And what about the Corn kitty litter PJ?
I think it is very economical in the long run.
And speaking of cat crap:
Does anyone remember the joke with the punch line: They (the two elderly ladies) thought it was the petrified penis of a popular Persian prince”. They were on an archeological dig or something.
Oh I wonder how Otis is doing and Jim Earl’s elderly cat.
Maybe it’s Mishna.
EDITED. just a dumb nirvana lyric.
I already googled that pinch line.
Why NY1 Should Let Jonathan Tasini Debate Hillary
Tasini is challenging Clinton in the New York State Democratic primaries. He qualified for the ballot with 40,000 signatures — far surpassing the required 15,000 — and he is polling at a surprising 13 percent (or, perhaps not so surprising, if one considers the outrage over Iraq.) But, despite Tasini’s strong run, cable news station, NY1 — owned by Time-Warner — declared that Tasini cannot participate in its televised debate series because he hasn’t raised the arbitrarily required $500,000. As Katrina vanden Heuvel argues in Editor’s Cut, “It’s time to take on our downsized politics of excluded alternatives. Click here to contact NY1 and demand that it act in the public interest and allow this debate. It’s the right thing for the New York Senate race, and it’s the right thing for our democracy.”
I think Siggy would start eating the litter if it were corn
Well then maybe I am gay…:knit:
What? OK. What are you talking about? You can be whatever you want.
Oh and I wonder if Michael Pollen mentions the kitty litter in The Omnivore’s Dilemma .
Yeah Siggy might mistake them for Cheetos.
On that note… I am going to the store for din din.
Be all that you can be but don’t ask don’t tell…
OK:rofl2:
Um,,,now what?
Oh, I see. UNO! No, it’s bridge today. No uno!
:omg:petrified penis:omg: There’s no humor there.
What is that Shrek song that Druid always refers to?
Why is this blog so LONG! Sheesh, it takes forever to get through anymore, even skimming.
Wow, man. I’m lost in the bloggoshpere:shock:
and i’m not looking up penis JOKES!
Chimp on a hog.
I would say that if you want a petrified penis, try being married to a nurse, but that wouldn’t be right.
:barf:(no offense, PJ)
T- Did you get out to that refrigerator yet?
No. Maybe I should. I’m getting a little shaky:mad:
Is Bill playing UNO?:omg:
huh? No, the blog was playing uno with me
Current users online: uno
oh:shock:
I thought they were on to another card game.
old people like bridge, and bridge only.
Hey all…PJ, quick question- I lost a big part of a post in blogger via trying to recover another part that was apparently lost from my remote machine while I fought to sign on and finally did just as Will came out….sooooooo….The thing apparently crashed and lost part of it….but I had most of it here on my desktop and when I was proofing it, suddenly a piece was gone, so I clicked on recover post and then lost MORE of it…and I am beside myself because I put so much work into it and am just too tired to reconstruct….as if I could…and it’ll be old news by then anyway.
Is there a cache in my computer where I might find a mirror of it somehow?
I am looking around and unable to find anything.
The blogger program Help says that it recovers a certain amount that is saved on my cookie at any given time, but its apparently not got the whole thing…or even the partial thing…Most of it is gone.
Just a last ditch attempt before I put the crew to bed and and crawl upstairs myself….
When I was your age- young man…In my first apartment building at Broadway and Harrison there was a guy upstairs who had a perpetual game of spades going and we used to go up there and smoke pot and play spades and discuss philosophy.
Greetings All,
Wurk’n  and a bit of lurk’n:hubba:
…and many have important things to say so I’s just stay’n in the “shadows”.
Hi Melina, you can check (though it might take a while) through your browser cache files to see if your stuff is in there, somewhere (assuming you were composing in your web browser; BTW, may want to consider composing in something else, then copying and pasting into blogger). If you know a few words that you’d written, do a search and see if you get anything.
Sucks when you lose a bunch of stuff you spent a lot of time on. I never realized how much time it took to write a couple of paragraphs, until I tried doing it every single day! Even the crap I write seems to take forever.
Anyhow, good luck with it.
Hi Druid! I’m rarely around when you are these days. Nice to see ya.
Hi Druid:banana: I bought Humboldt ice cream because of you.
Hey- PJ I am never here when you are here either!
I s MoonlightMan from LA or am I delusional?
Hey there. Hard to say, exactly. with MLM.
sblueheron, the Mystery Man continues 😎 … :rofl2: :rofl2::rofl2:
Hi PJSauter  , One day we Have T o Throw It Down … as Travis proclaims teehee … I can think of at LEAST a Zillion topics we can “PLAY”. Tell The RAGE 😉
sblueheron , I take him ultimately “literally”. He is from LA, he also is a bit of a misanthrope, he has the Leo/Lion humour, he burns hot, but ultimately when confronted has a gentle heart. 😎 … and he is overall 😎 most get his humour (I just have a “dry” LBH huh Travis:wink:).
Watching FrontLine (an old one, that was on when I was in DC, but didn’t get a chance to watch) – about Dick Cheney, called “The Dark Side.” God, I hate that the world is being run by these fucking people.
This is such a special site PJ you are Brilliant:!: We “Freaks” all….I think we should start a Seditionists Party… since we are all of the artistic or “bizarre” and brilliant mindset. I say “freaks” since a young friend calls me so, he says he has the right since he is. No matter the education, all on this site IS BRILLIANT:!:
I would “play” with many Brilliant Com Sci and certain ones (not all) are Art (and some Q. Ph ).
I would love to have the Seditionists Party. We talked about having Seditionist Party endorsements. I’d love to sell swag – not for profit, but just for fun.
And then there is We Irish — we are All that and then some. (I didn’t know I was Anything except Full Irish until about 40-ish) I look the Role. (My family is from the County of Cork). But we have The Red (which my Grand pa loved) keeping this family together. I and most in family have the highlights only, except a brother and an uncle. :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:
Are you hiring at this little swag store, PJ?
Ah, well, my mother is a Corcoran, on her mother’s side (a Flood – the Clan Flud – on her father’s side).
Well, I’d be happy to hire, if there’s ever any money to be made. But I’m not a very good businessman. Just don’t have the heart for it.
Hey, that’s cool. I don’t have the head for it:doh:
I dated a Black Irish for awile :rofl2: and a Doctor :rofl2: thought he was “black” :rofl2: “WHICH THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT” (LBH = Lead Balloon …)
Cool what you said.
I saw that Frontline. Pissed me OFF! Sometimes I wonder why I have to share a planet with these assholes.
hey there, KP, nice to see ya.
Yeah, I’m black Irish. Apparenltly what happened when the Spanish Armada got blown off-course.
You, PJ, will be in “the shadows” soon and I have to Run but will be researching Corcoran ans Clan Flud… soory, I really into “colours” and history…
then I found out I had Apache “blood”, although we all looked like The Clans of that Way :banana::cool: (the BEST Emos, EVER:wink:)
Wurk’n  and lurk’n here:hubba:
The Irish and the Native Americans are really one in the same.
Hey, what the hell was that joke about, anyway?
Hey, so, I am going to be an inspector at the polls this year. I get to deliver the ballots. :paranoid::fist:
You know which one I’m talkin’ ’bout!
Kristapea , We The Seditionist Party are going the Run this Nation.
Shoot, due to this SITE and working with local rebels, AND FRED, I am getting onto County Commisions but still dealing with some State, Nation issues. Attitudes…do not give the bastard an break…this is OUR land:!:
Or, um what about the Scots- I remember seeing that MacIntosh Clan chief in full headress…
Yeah, I worked at the register in 04.made everybody sign it
You talkin’ to me Travis? about a joke?
No….I’m just talking to wind, Yeah!
I’m confused:shock:
:rofl2:travisdem_04 , you can’t play that anymore — You are Brilliant. Life is a Game , it is just “getting” around or over or through the Obstacles:!::wink:
Are you going to Buffalo?
To Sean’s house? No, I have to get an apartment here and start going to school.
The Inspector position also pays $15 more than the other positions. Plus everyone has to call me Inspector Krista.
Are you going to school Travis?
Well, I was an election OFFICIAL!
Uh, hopefully. Sometime. Maybe. Good question
well, I write alot very quickly…but Im not feeling great this week….like a sinus thing and a headache so I cant remember exactly what it all was…and I had just finished putting in all the links and pictures and all….urgh!
I couldnt find it…but Im gonna put up Dowd and a lil this and that….and then try again tomorrow or something.
Of Course Scots are cool:cool: , MOST Friends throughout Life were Scots ( and some I did many radical things with are SCOTS — FREEDOM) and My Best (Young) Friend (with attitude) is a Scot — and he just have “barely” grad Hi Sch — ANDDDD does the BEST Knives (and his last name is “of the blade” ) and SO IS EVER NATIONALITY :hot: HOT:banana:
You’re confused, Sblue! I’m confused! Now, where does that leave us?
There’s no way I could blog in public. I talk too much to the computer out load. People might think I’m :paranoid:
You should try to get the Pell Grant Travis, I wouldn’t have made it through w/o it. But that was under Clinton. I had a much harder time getting money for school under Bush :fu:
Ahhh…that explains it- Travis:nod:
I am a very slow typist NOW especially, so it takes me forever, then EDIT much so that is why I usually only do one-liners to prevent confusion.
Now that I have confused all, it is time for me to creep back in The Shadows. Bwah HaHa.
AIV
Where the hell is Gypsy? We need recipes dammit!
( Kristapea , that is the only way I did it, too)
I think she is having computer problems and off work this week.
Well…Im depressed…but I put Dowd up for anyone I didnt send it to…
I guess I should watch the end of colbert and go to sleep.
That doesn’t explain anything, but it’s ok. I don’t even remember what this was all about to begin with. Never mind. It’s cool, if I’m lost
Yes, Gypsy needs a new computer
Oh yeah, computer problems. Stupid computer problems.

Hey There Seditionists,
Just came back from seeing Marc at the Irvine Improv.
Orange County on a Wednesday night….very strange. It felt and looked like the room was split in two. Those who got the joke…and those who didn’t know it was okay to laugh.
Living here in the very Red OC, I was anxious to see how the crowd would react. Whenever I walk around in my “Bush Again!” Scream shirt (ala Edward Munch) I get all types of looks.
But to those who listened, what a night. Damn, I miss the Marc Maron show. We were so freaking lucky to enjoy that show.
So, if you are in an area that Marc will be at…Go! He was great. Not just being biased. He had people around me laughing so hard it was contagious.
Enjoy your day and keep up the passion, Seditionists.
:sammy:
drivers are in high demand man its a decent thing if you want to see the country!
I have trouble cleaning windows, but I guess I could learn
Explain the joke!

If I was, what would you throw down?
:neutral:what joke?
you know this is crazy i remember how hard it was to get the morning sedition blog to 400 posts!
profit, the pusillanimous punditry has been nothing but a perpetually pathetic parade of preposterous pricks performing like prevaricating puppets to prop up piglike politicians
:fustrate:
It’s called alliteration:billcat:
Hey don’t:fustrate: ’cause of me! I’ll go read that now. I’m outta here.:peace:
It reminded me of the word-alliteration, kitty litter:billcat: – then the joke I couldn’t remember.: Two old ladies go on an archaeological “dig” and they come across something that looks like kitty litter (missing alliterative phrase) #278
:priest:be gone foul vermin i mean pretty ladies!
:hot:hey one of em just pulled up her skirt and wiggled her ass at me!
It was just scatological humor- not to be confused with the “end” times.

AIPAC Congratulates Itself on the Slaughter in Lebanon
By JOHN WALSH
“My fellow American,” Howard Friedman, President of AIPAC, begins his letter of July 30 to friends and supporters of AIPAC, “Look what you’ve done”! After warning that “Israel is fighting a pivotal war for its life,” by which he means Israel’s wanton slaughter and all-out destruction in Lebanon, Freiedman condemns “the expected chorus of international condemnation of Israel’s actions” and Europe’s call for “a cease-fire immediately.” Then he exults: “only ONE nation in the world came out and flatly declared: Let Israel finish the job. . That nation is the United States of America–and the reason it had such a clear, unambiguous view of the situation is YOU and the rest of America Jewry.” (All emphases in the original here and below.) Here I must take issue with President Friedman since I bet that most Jewish Americans, in contrast to the AIPAC crowd, were horrified by the slaughter in Lebanon. In fact if anyone other than President Friedman wrote this, he would be accused of fabricating a Jewish plot and labeled a nutty conspiracy theorist and scurrilous anti-semite.)
“How do we do it”? President Friedman asks a little further on. The answer is “decades of long hard work which never ends.” Not only is it hard work–but it’s eternal. However, President Friedman is not content with generalities and gives us some of AIPAC’s trade secrets. Here are two notables:
“AIPAC meets with every candidate running for Congress. These candidates receive in-depth briefings to help them completely understand the complexities of Israel’s predicament and that of the Middle East as a whole. We even ask each candidate to author a ‘position paper’ on their views of the U.S.-Israel relationship–so it’s clear where they stand on the subject.” (Would it not be great to see these “position papers”? I wonder how many candidates would release them? And what do the candidates get for all this effort? A pat on the back?)
“Members of Congress, staffers and administration officials have come to rely on AIPACs memos. They are VERY busy people and they know that they can count on AIPAC for clear-eyed analysis.. We present this information in concise form to elected officials. The information and analyses are impeccable–after all our reputation is at stake. This results in policy and legislation that make up Israel’s lifeline.” (Another way to read this is that the pea-brained hillbillies who make up most of the Congress can be led by the nose if the memos are simple enough. Testimony to this fact enters my mailbox, as I write, in the form of a must-read interview with Noam Chomsky, which details just how distorted the discussion of Israel and the war on Lebanon has become in the U.S.)
President Friedman’s letter continues with more headliners: “Unfortunately, our work has just begun”! “Hizballah must be defeated.” And finally, “The war is a diversion”!!!! This last section argues that the war in Lebanon is a “distraction,” to “divert attention away from Iran’s nuclear weapons program”! (In case you haven’t noticed President Friedman loves exclamation points, which leads one to wonder whether a good dose of lithium might not be in order.) But this “analysis’ is hopelessly confused since Israel started the war on Lebanon using a minor border skirmish as an excuse – as Chomsky points out in the interview alluded to above. It leaves one wondering about AIPAC’s analyses. Are they “clear-eyed” as Friedman claims, or wild-eyed?
President Friedman closes with the exhortation: “Now is the time for us, American Jews, to stand up and tell our elected officials that they must demand Iran halt its pursuit of atomic arms.” In other words, next stop Iran if AIPAC can swing it. And in that lies a great danger. The Bush administration is losing ever more of its base and only the neocon establishment and AIPAC remain securely in its camp. (Even some of the born-agains are deserting.) With the November elections coming, Rove and Bush desperately need AIPAC support, and so they may be even more susceptible than usual to its demands for going after Iran. Indeed this is a dangerous time.
John Walsh can be reached at john.endwar@gmail.com.
He thanks President Friedman for much of the material in this article, which is taken directly from his latest fundraising letter to AIPAC supporters and members.
