It is Friday, right? It’s hard to tell, now that I’m out of the rat race (no offense, Druid) for a little while.
So, yesterday a federal judge ruled what we all knew – dubya violated the first and fourth amendments, broke the law, and is guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors (OK, I may have thrown a little bit of my own interpretation in there at the end). Of course, as one redneck wingnut blog I accidentally looked at last night (had to take three showers) stated, she’s not only a Carter appointee, but a black woman to boot. So, obviously, she’s a terrorist lover, and no doubt only got into Yale Law School thanks to affirmative action (note to racist crackers out there: Judge Anna Diggs Taylor graduated from Yale Law School in 1957, and if you’d been paying any attention at all in school before dropping out in the sixth grade, you might recall that affirmative action in 1957 meant you were first in line to get lynched, you ignorant bigot).
So, anyhow, I say we take that Feingold censure idea off the table, and go for impeachment, with civil and criminal trials to take place after Bush and Cheney are tossed out of office. Hopefully the Democrats will have taken back the House by then, so I guess that would probably make Nancy Pelosi the first woman to be president, she’s likely to be the next Speaker of the House. Well, I think I’d rather have Maxine Waters, but I reckon Nancy will do.
Speaking of Democrats, you can go see Marc Maron tonight at a fundraiser for the Culver City Democratic Club. It’s being held at Steinway Hall, which (as you may recall) is underneath Field’s Pianos in LA (if you need directions, I believe Kristapea can help you out, since she went to see Mishna, Marc, and Jim there, way back on April 1st, when the Marc Maron Show was still pretty new – not that it had a chance to get ‘old’ – and we were all looking forward to it being syndicated to a station with a live stream that didn’t preempt the show for sporting events). KP said it was great place to see them, so get out there if you can. We get him here on the East coast next week.

A 2000-year-old practice of behavior modification and mind control that is the greatest single cause of damage to my psyche. The only reason it is not the most horrible cult on the planet is that it’s less expensive than Scientology. I still wince every time I see a crucifix.

I don’t know. i want to speculate all kinds of reasons for this…the result is the most cutting edge shows being eliminated (for whatever reasons) means AA is moving to the “safe center”. Don’t know if that’s their intention or reasoning behind elimination of MS and MR but the result, I hope, is not that AA becomes another version of NPR…
So is Sam getting the boot? That would be the final nail in the coffin of AAR.

Too bad it isn’t Steve Greenfield, who would’ve gotten my vote in the Democratic primary for the US Senate, except he dropped out to support Tasini. So, maybe I’ll vote for Howie Hawkins this time around. He was the only person to challenge our Bush rubber stamp congressman last time around – no Democrat ran, unlike this year – and Howie got 10% of the vote, which isn’t too bad, all things considered – certainly a lot better than the national “other” party candidates did in ’04; hell 10% would would’ve been a huge “moral victory” for them.

Riley in the old MS slot, 6 – 9, and then Seder on the Radio from 9 – noon, followed by Franken noon – 3, Randi 3 – 6, Rachel (don’t think this is a good mover, personally) 6 – 8, and then something to replace MR from 8 – 10, and then Malloy late night? I think the Marc Maron Show would do very well from 8 – 10, personally. 8 – 11, even.
Seder would be more of a NYC local show in that time slot since a lot of the affiliate stations carry their own programming at that time of day.. It is good to hear he’s not going to be downsized and that Jerry may be getting the boot..

I saw a spider run away over some papers and I was just picking up some recycle bage, because monday is paper day and the guys are helping me today….and then I had a pain on my palm at the base of my index finger and there is a swollen bump which is black and blue underneath and stings badly…it was swelling but then sort of softened and went down a little…but it hurts sharply to the touch…and is like a black and blue under the skin.
I dont see any actual bite or break in the skin…its almost like I broke a blood vessel…but its small…and that wold be strange, though I did haul in 100 lbs of groceries and cases of seltzer etc…then did alot of moving stuff around for the guys ….ugh….
any advice will be appreciated.

Well, according to this site, the only spiders in the US you need to worry about are black widows and brown recluses.

my pop just got a bad spider bite on his arm – kind of like you melina. (we’ve been thinking perhaps a widow bit him) his entire arm swelled, got infected and is nasty and he got a fever and chills. He had to get antibiotics. (My cure-all – a good soak in epson salts with the hottest water you can stand. Works well for fire ants, too.)
If you think you were bitten by a recluse, get thee to a doctor pronto!
A recluse can cause your flesh to die and fall off….my friend’s horse was bitten by one and the entire flesh on one leg fell off down to the tendons and bone – I’ll never forget the sight. Do NOT mess with a brown recluse.
Yeah, those things are nasty. It isn’t uncommon to get bit by one that’s hiding in a place like a wood pile. They look like this:
They’re usually in the warmer climates, but it isn’t unheard of to have them even up here in the great white north.

I just read the posts about Rachel announcing her move to the evening slot. Shit on Rachel for announcing that before Sam had a chance to. I listened to Sam last night and he still had not heard. He will be on vacation next week and he told his listeners to check the blog next week for news. Sam is an activist and his efforts were crucial in getting the Ned Lamont ball rolling. It was Sam that got me involved in trying to stop the Alito confirmation. His show had real world positive consequences for progressives. And, I relayed those thoughts to AAR in support of the show. Sam is so smart on the issues and I learn something everytime I turn in. He is the best when it comes to talking with rightwingnuts. And, he is a good man. This is a huge loss. 😥
Once Franken starts his doomed run for the Senate, there will be no reason at all to listen to AAR in NYC. Armstrong Williams? Are they kidding us? Why not Bill O’Reilly while they’re at it?

FK. I found out they have new owners as of May 2006. It is now 280 acres. My grandfather bought 360 acres for 5,000 in 1920. Can you believe it? My sister thinks land was taken by the state for construction of Cimmaron Turnpike. Looks like land in that area in Payne County is selling for 3,000 an acre. My guess is that new owners wouldn’t be interested in selling 10 acres, especially the 10 acres that has the house on it. I’m sure you’re aware of the Tall Grass Prairie Reserve that is just North of this area. Returning land to a native state interests me alot. I guess I’ve just been thinking about everything. In the meantime, I have been volunteering at an urban farm here in St. Louis. I really love it. And, I’ve been making market bags out of used coffee bags they get for weed control. They’re going to try to sell them at one of the farmers markets here a week from tomorrow to benefit the farm and ME. 😀

Melina, no picture, yet. I must say, though they are good looking. Each one is a little different. And, all the people at the farm who are in their 20’s loved them, so I think that’s a good sign. The material is burlap/jute. They have the neat printing that is on the original bag. We’re not even sure what to sell them for. This farm is also a CSA and one of the members bought the first two samples I made for 8.00 each. 50% benefits the farm.

Protest Karl Rove This Saturday In Austin
AUSTIN – A protest against President George W. Bush’s chief advisor Karl Rove (aka “Turd Blossom”) will be held this Saturday, Aug. 19, at 5:30 p.m., at the Renaissance Hotel in Austin.
Participants are asked to gather outside the parking garage of the hotel. If facing the main entrance of the hotel, the garage is on the right. The hotel is located at 9721 Arboretum Blvd., Austin, TX 78759.
“Bring signs, banners, and any thing else to let Rove and his supporters know that there is a new branch of law enforcement in town and we plan to hold them accountable,” said the press release from CODEPINK Austin.
The Associated Republicans of Texas is holding a special dinner in honor of Rove. Texas Governor Rick Perry, a Republican, is listed as honorary chairman on the ART website; however, he and Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R) and John Cornyn (R) will not attend.
Still, special guests include other top Republicans in state offices such as Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, Attorney General Greg Abbott, Agriculture Commissioner Susan Combs, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson, Railroad Comm. Chairman Elizabeth Ames Jones, and Sen. Todd Staples.

With today’s cease-fire in Lebanon, the second Hezbollah-Israeli War is temporarily in remission. So far, Israel has been beaten.
The magnitude of the defeat is considerable. Israel appears to have lost at every level-strategic, operational and tactical. Nothing she tried worked. Air power failed, as it always does against an enemy who doesn’t have to maneuver operationally, or even move tactically for the most part. The attempts to blockade Lebanon and thus cut off Hezbollah’s resupply failed; her caches proved ample. Most seriously, the ground assault into Lebanon failed. Israel took little ground and paid heavily in casualties for that. More, she cannot hold what she has taken; if she is not forced to withdraw by diplomacy, Hezbollah will push her out, as it did once before. The alternative is a bleeding ulcer that never heals.
But these failures only begin to measure the magnitude of Israel’s defeat. While Hezbollah’s leader, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, is now an Islamic hero, Olmert has become a boiled brisket in the piranha pool that is Israeli politics. The cease-fire in Lebanon will allow camera crews to broadcast the extent of the destruction to the world, with further damage to Israel’s image. Israel’s “wall” strategy for dealing with the Palestinians has been undone; Hamas rockets can fly over a wall as easily as Hezbollah rockets have flown over Israel’s northern border…

It seems to me that the individuals that run AAR have no consideration for the listeners of their shows. They are as Sam would say, FUBAR.
Initially when the announcement was made on the move from 1190 WLIB to 1600 WWRL, an AAR image was on the WWRL site welcoming Al, Randi, Sam, and Mike. Within a few days that image was replaced with the current image.
[I assume it is the images and names of Armstrong Williams and Sam Greenfield, with the text “Morning Radio 6-10”. (Or something similar.) Below that is “WWRL Wecomes AAR”, with appropriate image.]
From the AAR web site their news statement includes the following:
“We are thrilled about our new partnership with Air America,” said Maddox-Dorsey. “It is important that we partner in offering the nation’s largest radio market a strong, progressive voice.”
This can’t be true if WWRL continues with some of its morning personalities who are neither strong nor progressive.
Mike said on Monday’s show that WWRL would only air his show from 10 PM to 12 PM, again missing the last hour like WLIB originally did. It would appear that WWRL wants to hold on to its AM slots for its own shows while PM shows will be for AAR. I am assuming that Sam will get the 2 hours, 8 PM to 10 PM. I am also assuming that Mark Reily will end up staying with WLIB, which is where he originated before he joined AAR.
It’s sad that I have to assume anything 13 days before the switch. At this point I have not read any information regarding the weekend shows. It should be noted that I have emailed WWRL to find out what the weekday and weekend lineups will be on 9/1/2006 and they have not responded.
Shame on AAR and WWRL for not keeping their listeners informed in an organized manner of what their plans are starting 9/1/2006 at WWRL. Even a partial list of shows and their proposed time slots, periodically updated, could alleviate the frustration we are feeling.

Does that “Snakes” movie have anything to do with the actual cases where mildly venomous snakes somehow get on airplanes and end up in places where they “flourish”! I saw a documentary on this phenomenon. Snakes multiply rapidly in their new environs, and crawl everywhere. There are reports of snakes crawling up toilets and biting unwary sitters. (I am not making this up.)

For weeks, Israel has turned Lebanon into a killing ground, slaughtering and maiming thousands of people, destroying the civilian infrastructure, and turning a quarter of the population into refugees in their own land. At the same time, it continues to brutalize Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.
Israel’s crimes are carried out with U.S.-made F-16s, Apache helicopters, and cluster bombs. These high-tech lethal weapons are part of $5 billion that Israel gets each year from the United States, courtesy of the Republican and Democratic parties, with enthusiastic support from Neo-cons and right-wing Christian fundamentalists.
The U.S. does not arm Israel to “promote democracy” or for “self-defense.” Even Zionist historians now admit that Israel’s origins are rooted in dispossession of the Palestinian people — whose labor then built the Israeli economy — through an unrelenting campaign of ethnic cleansing: exile, squalid refugee camps, imprisonment, torture and murder.
Since the 1970s, Israel has also pursued territorial expansion by repeatedly invading and devastating Lebanon, as exemplified by the slaughter of thousands of Palestinian refugees at Sabra and Shatilla in 1982. That occupation lasted until 2000, when Hezbollah forced Israel to withdraw.
Since then, Israel has killed thousands of Palestinians, taken thousands of Palestinian and Lebanese political prisoners, and tried to strangle the democratically-elected government of Hamas. When Hamas and Hezbollah responded by capturing a few Israeli soldiers, Israel unleashed a new, bloody, long-planned attack on Lebanon; only then did Hezbollah respond by firing crude rockets at Israel.
Behind its empty platitudes, the U.S. government supports this Israeli racism and state terrorism because, along with dictatorships in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, it is a cornerstone of U.S. domination over the world’s most important oil-producing region.
Now, with the Iraq war in shambles, the U.S.-Israel partnership seeks to break Lebanese and Palestinian resistance, while recklessly provoking confrontations with Syria and Iran. The U.N. has done nothing to stop this war of empire — what Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice sickeningly calls “birth pangs of a new Middle East.”

5. Out Now from Iraq and Afghanistan — No timetables, redeployment, advisors, or air-war.
