Well, turns out that today’s the day I actually have to go to class, not yesterday. Hard to believe it’s barely three days into classes, and I’m already up to my ass in work. Hopefully, the dog won’t mind if we take a break today, since I’ve got a lot to do. Otherwise, well, it was nice to hear Marc on MR last night. Sure would be nice to be able to hear him every day. I recorded Conan, and I’ll have to watch it when I get a chance. So, I guess I’d better get going. Have a good one.

Well….. Almost nothing is happening so far today
ERNESTO sort of crapped out
Ohio is destroying the ballots from the 2004 election ( I wonder why:eek:) before the democrats take over in Nov.
The CPB chief was running a bookie operation out of the PBS office

I think the left sided media is sort of hyping the failure of the Bush admin to fix these No problems .
. They have so many things to fix and many things have to be done in some order and not at the same time..
It looks like everyone got screwed in a similar manner.
The Bush admins response would certainly have never built the Tennessee Valley authority or Hoover dam..
I forgot to tape Conan last night. I SUCK!!! :spank:
Final ( hopefully) Ernesto update: it made landfall near Marathon, at the southern end of the state, and is projected to move more or less northeast throughout the day until it goes into the Atlantic. We’re not supposed to get anything but rain and a little wind, according to most forecasts.
Except for the dingbat on the local CBS affiiliate, who is convinced that it is coming TOWARD US and will HOPEFULLY TURN RIGHT BEFORE IT HITS US AND WE ALL DIE.
Okay, I’m exaggerating for comedic effect, but she is the only meteorologist in the area who is predicting this track. So she’s either an unheralded prophet or lost in space. Sorta like a president we all know.
Hey Spiritdancer, welcome aboard. Nice to have another FL resident in the house.

I’m thinking about writing Rumsfeld a letter this weekend, to express my disgust at being labelled a Nazi sympathiser because I don’t want to drink his Kool-Aid. This should be fun, I’ve never been to jail before.
But just before this I hear bush is already planning to cancel the ’08 elections, due to the danger of the times … It could be just an article but hardly heard as I passed by. But it was from ‘something as’ DU or something similar.
Ewwwww ..WJ is going to discuss Rummy’s slamming of the people demanding a withdrawal from Iraq. Calling the Islamic radicals fascists ( Rummy obviously doesn’t understand what fascist means).. :omg::mad::growl::growl::gate::omg::jason::jason::jason:
Fred, I wish it would stay dark and “quiet” longer, and now I have to “creep” out with glasses 😎 to go to computer class in noon hour so 😮 but whatever Bah Humbug 😉
Bush could cancel the election… but… Calif, Oregon and Washington would just become part of Canada or their own country..The states with democratic legislatures would have to send their national guard units to DC and kick his ass out into the ocean.:gate::omg::jason::jason::jason::fist:

What bothers me about all this is the Europeans in this Lebanon crisis were still pandering to the SBR. They should be building up the EU defense forces to prepare to kick our ass off the continent not asking the pentagon for help.. They appear to be even slower learners than Americans are. :fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::paranoid::paranoid::paranoid:
getting my hair cut today after work. If I can stay awake. It’s really bad. I don’t drink coffee, though :omg: I may need to anyway
People keep telling me to drink green tea..but it doesn’t push the start button anywhere as well as coffee does.:eek::eek::fustrate::fustrate::paranoid::paranoid:
I would drink hot chocolate if I had any in the house, it has caffeine. Oh well. Time to try loud music or Mike Malloy archived shows. Either should do the trick.
I don’t know where some of these Reich wingers get their “facts” .. Using Art Limprick or Sean Handjob as a news source is not a good thing.
This last raving lunatic was saying the democrats were not wanting to enter WWII. No one wanted to get into WWII but the thugs were the ones who were trading with Hitler not the dems.:growl::growl::growl::growl:
now that the people of that generation are dying out, the republicans are going to try to change history so that only right wingers were patriotic during World War II. I knew this would happen.
and I also like how they use the term “nazi” to apply to people on the left. Orwell was right when he said that language would be changed to its opposite: “war is peace” etc. Now right is left and left is right.
All the Bush/Cheney supporters this morning seem to be grumpy old men with a Southern drawl.. If I were Kat and Cnick I would move ..:yuck::eek::fustrate::fustrate::paranoid:
I have liberal and even anarchist friends in the south. We need to show them our love and support.
Well lets see the thugs are combining the government with the corporations ( the definition of fascist) and are proposing kicking the Hispanics out ( the definition of committing genocide).. Are invading other countries preemptively ( the same as the Nazi’s did) .. The dems are just looking stupid and inept..much like the left did in Germany just before WWII..Hummm ….but..but.. the average American operates at the 7th grade level with a five minute attention span so what do you expect…:doh::doh::fustrate::fustrate::paranoid::paranoid:
We have another 20 years before all those grumpy old men in the south who were told by the feds in the 60’s that those people of color were equal to them die off.. Unlike the people who were around during WWII the southern bigots have their own continuing agenda of bias, bigotry and stupidity.:eek::eek::fustrate::fustrate::paranoid::paranoid:
Someone please spell for me ?Isomov? or whatever the ?author :barf: or whoever called the Valerie Plame case basically invalid and since someone could ruin Plame’s life and it was just an “accident”. Rachel laughs and kisses his ass and agrees, but acknowedges that A “Civil” Case could be interesting. She has just lost me. I can now sleep, and not miss her growingly “sell-out” manner. She was THE LAST reason I listened at night. Now I will merge sleep time over next few days.
Thugs and Libertariajerks seem to migrate to places that
1. Have low taxes, poor education systems and low standards of living
2. Have Conservative state governments that keep it that way.
3.Promote agendas that use fear, stupidity and bigotry to keep progressive ideas minimized.
How do you fix this without some violent upheaval occurring. ??:eek::eek::fustrate::paranoid:
Added a page of still frame images of Marc from last night’s Conan O’Brien Show. Go here to view the pix. To view a video clip of Marc’s appearence on the show go here.
If Rachel is talking to the guy from News Week I think that is Michael Isikoff..
If someone outs a CIA operative over lunch I guess it falls into the category of loose lips and is not a criminal act..:yuck::crap::fustrate::paranoid:
druid, if you’re still up, she interviewed Michael Isikoff. She is quite infatuated with him. he works for newsweek and just wrote a book about the plame affair.
the best thing about Rachel Maddow is Kent Jones.
Fred, #43 1-3
The left sided media seems to be hyping a lot of things these days that are turning out to be a drop in the bucket. I think its the idea of tying to promote outrage .. People can handle only so much outrage that goes no where until they turn it off. Trying to make it funny only turns it into a joke..:eek::eek::crap::fustrate::paranoid:

The Truth About Clinton and Bin Ladin: Another Right-Wing Talking Point Exposed
by stephdray
A Big Shadow to Hide In
It has become reflexive for Bush administration apologists to answer any criticism with an excoriation of Bill Clinton.
Ask why President Bush is spying on Americans without warrants, and his spokespeople cry that President Clinton spied on Americans too. (They just leave off the part where the Clinton Administration complied with FISA court warrant requirements in order to do so.)
Ask why FEMA’s response to hurricane Katrina was so poor, and Rush Limbaugh starts babbling about Monica and a blue dress.
It has not only become predictable, but comedic. Just watch Anne Coulter. She’s like a demented yellow-parrot who can’t stop squawking inappropriate lines or hilariously yanking out her own feathers on national television.
The Big Lie
But one Clinton-bashing RNC talking point is not funny or comedic in the slightest. It’s a lie meant to disguise the miserable job that Republicans have done at avenging 9/11, and it’s being promoted with increasing desperation as we approach the mid-term elections.
The lie is that Bill Clinton had an easy opportunity to capture Osama Bin Ladin, but let him get away.

I wonder if Marc is negotiating with AAR. He’s been very nice about them. That’s especially interesting because he is usually quick to complain. If it’s true that Politically Direct and another program are moving to weeknights, perhaps there will be a weekend program for Marc.
Coburn: Stevens Blocked My Bill
By Justin Rood –
Twelve days ago, at a town meeting in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) accused Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) of obstructing his porkbuster-database bill with an anonymous hold.
One of the senators most criticized for his personal projects, Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, has a hold of his own on Coburn’s bill to make public the spending patterns of the government. Called the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act, the legislation calls for the creation of a database open to the public where citizens can track government spending.
“He’s the only senator blocking it,” Coburn said of Stevens.
Coburn’s office was not available for comment this evening.
The article has gone largely unnoticed in recent days, as hundreds of bloggers and blog-readers (at TPMm and elsewhere) have called Senate offices in an effort to determine who placed the “secret” hold on Coburn’s bill. The piece does not turn up in a Nexis search, although it is in Google.

Somewhere, Keith Obermann is sticking pins in a Bill O’Reilly voodoo doll: Fox News’ ratings are down
since August of last year. Like, way down. Like down 28 percent in primetime among all viewers, down
20 percent in primetime in the “money demo” (viewers aged 25-54) and down 7 percent in daytime
viewership overall. In fact, the only place Fox is up is during the day, when they managed a ratings
increase of just 2 percent, and even then only in the money demo.
And lest you think this is an industry-wide trend, consider this: over the same time period, CNN and
MSNBC are up. CNN’s up 35 percent during the day — 46 percent in the money demo — and up 21
percent in primetime overall, 25 percent in the money demo. MSNBC’s ratings increases aren’t quite as
impressive — up 6 percent in primetime overall, 8 percent in the money demo, and up 36 percent in the
money demo during the day, 26 percent overall.

Happy humpday, bloggren. Here’s some good news for Oregonians, although I confess I don’t love Kulongoski as much as I would like to love a good, Democratic governor.

Opposite Outcomes for Outsiders a Boon for Oregon’s Kulongoski
By Jesse Stanchak | 5:07 PM; Aug. 29, 2006 | Email This Article
An incumbent who is struggling in job approval polls — as is Oregon Democratic Gov. Theodore R. Kulongoski — can use a few breaks when bidding for re-election. And Kulongoski appears to have drawn a couple from a pair of outsider challengers, one of whom dropped out of the race and one who now appears to be in to stay.
First, on Aug. 10, state Sen. Ben Westlund left the race because he concluded that he could not win and did not want to be branded as a spoiler candidate.
Though he had been a Republican prior to launching his bid for governor, Westlund holds libertarian views — for example, supporting abortion rights as well as opposing gun control — that had made him a threat to pull votes from both Democratic incumbent Kulongoski and his Republican challenger, former Portland school board member Republican Ron Saxton.
Then last Thursday, Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury, a Democrat, stated that Mary Starrett — the nominee of the conservative Constitution Party and mainly a threat to drain votes from Republican Saxton — should remain on the November ballot.
Bradbury acted in response to a complaint filed by Kelly Clark, a former Republican state lawmaker, alleging that the Constitution Party failed to give adequate notice of its nominating convention and should therefore have its nominees removed from the ballot.
While Bradbury has yet to make a formal ruling in the case, he said in letter to the Oregon Justice Department that the infractions, even if valid, do not warrant disqualification from the ballot and that Starrett should be allowed to run regardless of the case’s outcome.
Though Clark denied filing the complaint on behalf of the Saxton campaign, many state political analysts believe Starrett, a former radio and TV personality, could pull in enough votes to make a Saxton win impossible.
The Constitution Party, which opposes state-funded abortions, supports gun owners’ rights and advocates much stricter state budget controls, could attract some social conservatives who would otherwise have voted for Saxton.
Saxton has had a touch-and-go relationship with religious conservatives. Some viewed him as too moderate when he sought the Republican gubernatorial nomination in 2002 to former state Rep. Kevin Mannix, who campaigned on his conservative social-issues agenda.
In this year’s primary, though, Saxton made a much more open appeal to socially conservative voters and defeated Mannix and state Sen. Jason Atkinson, who holds similar views on these issues. After the primary, Mannix endorsed Saxton and has campaigned on his behalf.
There is precedence for Oregon conservative activists rejecting political pragmatism to the detriment of more centrist Republican nominees. In 1990, abortion foe Al Mobley pulled in 13 percent as an independent, greatly hindering Republican nominee Dave Frohnmayer in the race he lost to Democrat Barbara Roberts.
While Starrett isn’t expected to garner numbers on the order of Mobley, she could well make a tough contest even more difficult for Saxton.
“I think 13 percent was a high water mark,” said Oregon State University political science professor Bill Lunch. “I think we’re more likely to see 5-to-6 or 7-to-8 percent from Starrett. Even so, those numbers come right out of Saxton’s hide.”
Meanwhile, polls suggest Westlund’s dropout is a boost for the governor. A survey by Zogby Interactive in July showed Kulongoski leading Saxton 40 percent to 38 percent, a statistical dead heat, with the still-active Westlund drawing 10 percent. Without Westlund in the race, the poll found 49 percent of voters favored Kulongoski, compared to 42 percent backing Saxton.
In a statement on his Web site discussing his withdrawal, Westlund said, “I made a commitment to the people of Oregon . . . I was in it to win it . . . and that I absolutely would not play a spoiler role. Therefore, today, with no regrets (but some sadness), I am here to honor that commitment.”
Amid the ballot upheaval, Rasmussen Reports released a poll of 500 likely voters Aug. 22 showing Kulongoski leading Saxton by the significantly wider margin of 49 percent to 35 percent.
Paul Gronke, an associate professor and chairman of the political science department at Portland’s Reed College, said he believed the state’s new, more stringent ballot requirements for independent candidates may have crippled Westlund’s run. Beginning this year, signatures on a nominating petition for an independent candidate in Oregon had to come from voters who did not participate in either major party’s primary.
“Westlund had to spend too much on signatures, most of which was on scrubbing the lists for primary voters,” says Gronke.
The development has worked to the incumbent’s advantage, Gronke said. “Westlund dropping out means Kulongoski can solidify the center. Westlund’s campaign made the governor run to the left a bit. . . . He’d put on these fiery, progressive speeches, when his record is actually very moderate. Now that Kulongoski can just play the centrist, Saxton will have to decide if he wants to fight [the governor] for that image or run to the right.”
And although Kulongoski’s approval ratings remain tepid, they have actually improved recently. A Survey USA poll conducted Aug. 14 showed that 44 percent of Oregon respondents approved of the job he is doing while 47 percent disapproved. That had to be encouraging for the governor’s campaign, considering that the numbers were 32 percent approval and 59 percent disapproval as recently as June.
CQ rates the race as Leans Democratic. Please visit CQPolitics.com’s Election Forecaster for the ratings on all races.

Hey everyone…was up and out very early to go to the upper school orientation at Will’s school…and finally got most of the paperwork in etc….
Finally I have a little break but so much to do…and I also forgot to tape Conan, so thanks Nick!!…Ill have to look at it on the other computer because I cant seem to play it here at all…maybe its a firefox issue.
…so much to catch up on here and all I want to do is sit and cuddle birds.
Al franken is so freakin good without Al franken on it!! I hope that the suits are taking notice of this.
Also, Sue, I really dont think that Marc is gonna take any more chances with AAR. They would have to offer him alot of money…and even then….He just doest feel like they are even trying to be competitive in the radio market anymore…told me that with his own mouth.
I would love it but Im not getting my hopes up.
If he is being less negative its because he is being professional. These things all come back to haunt you (as in his Stephanie Miller thing)…broadcast radio is a pretty small business and is getting smaller all the time….
Meantime, hopefully Marc will jump into Internet Radio (aka podcasting, but on a bigger scale,) which is gonna explode, IMO….Its a bigger chance but if it works, the payoff could be huge in exposure and $$….Most of these things rest things like bookwriting and touring on top of the exposure that you get from being on the air regularly and having a following….so hopefully that will work out.
Im just selfish enough to really, really want him doing a daily thing….But Im unselfish enough to hope that he doesnt get involved with those creeps at AAR again. I have been writing Sirius in the hopes that his people might be talking to them.
I cant think of any other national outlet that there is that would be a good place for him…nationally….

“MASKED” BILL-BLOCKER REVEALS SELF
By Paul Kiel – August 30, 2006, 1:59 PM
A spokesman for Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) just confirmed his boss was the man behind the secret hold on the Coburn/Obama spending database bill, which has captivated a segment of the political blogging community in recent days.
“Sen. Stevens does have a hold on the bill,” said the spokesman, who would only speak on the condition he not be named. He added that Sen. Tom Coburn’s (R-OK) office was notified of the hold after it was placed. So Coburn’s comments two weeks ago may have been duly informed.
So why does Stevens say he placed the hold? Why did it take this long for him to say so? And will he lift it?
Boy, that Bill Frist, what an honest doctor he is. Either honest or uninformed and which one is worse?
Frist didn’t meet medical license requirement
Senator falsely indicated he fulfilled continuing education prerequisite
 Senator Frist!
How can you forget 40 hours of courses? No, not forgetful, just dishonest.
I’ve also read that he has apologized for adopting cats from the humane society, treating them as pets until he used them for medical experiments. he said that he was sorry he had lied about it and perhaps it was unethical.
He’s a lot more than dishonest. He’s cruel and heartless. :barf:
A post on DU
Mike Malloy Fired from Air America Radio
This is not a published news article, but I think it qualifies as LBN.
This is Kathy Bay Malloy and we just got news that as of this minute we’ve been terminated by Air America Radio.
We don’t have all the details yet, but got a tip from someone who’d seen the new network lineup that we weren’t included after all. We just had that confirmed by one of the suits a few minutes ago. We’re told that its a financial decision.
Thank you so much for your ongoing support and we’ll keep you updated as we receive more information.

Let me add my thanks for posting Maron on the tube last night – the people on this site are pretty damn good, I’d say.
I was wondering why Thom Hartmann was filling in for Randi today when Malloy was supposed to be on all week. That would explain it.
:fu: AAR :fu:
Holy scheisse on a schingle, Fred! Thanks for the heads up. I have a coworker who is going to be spitting nails in a few minutes.
I just woke up from a very unexpected nap. What happened?
Malloy’s been fired?
WTF?
edited. I don’t know why
A financial decision? Right…sure.
Has it really been thirteen minutes without a post?:omg:
Oops, I guess now.
Busy reading over at MR and DU:knit:
Oh, ok. I’ll just wait then
Have you had breakfast or lunch?
Me neither:no:
Yeah, I’m not really hungry at the moment. Are you?
Sblue, you’re turning into the blog mom, you know that, right?
What’s the latest on Malloy? I can’t keep that many windows open. My boss might notice. (I caught him and he caught me so we keep each others secrets but try not to abuse it.)
I thought you were the blog mom with all those great recipes.
I don’t even cook:omg:

MIKE MALLOY FIRED BY AIR AMERICA RADIO
From Mike Malloy website
There will be no Mike Malloy program today – or any day – on Air America Radio as we have been terminated. We are as shocked as you are. We are told its a financial decision.
More details to follow as we hear them ourselves.
um…I’m going to catch the bus in a little bit. Blog with ya when I get to where ever I’m goin’.
Allegro OK?
man, radio is brutal. really media is brutal. but radio is known for just yanking people. marc’s wind-downs were rare, to my mind.
Well, that’s TWO radio personalities available…seems like there is an opportunity in there somewhere, doesn’t it? :gate:
OK:peace:
No, I’m the blog cook. You’re the mom. I’m more like the gramma.
really don’t want AAR to go belly-up. i get angry at their business decisions, but don’t want them to vacate the airwaves. Hope they have a good strong finger in the dike. :yuck:
melina, hope school went well for Will.
sheesh…you’d think that they could handle these things in a better way….just fired like that. Mom says that they always used to just pull people like that. I guess his contract was up?…but then wouldnt he have an inkling?
Who’s the blog father? And who’s the blog daddy? I want to know who gets to say “who’s your daddy?” all the time? (If we could get Kent Jones here it would be him because he’d say it so well but in his absence we need a blog daddy.)
I think pj is the blog father. Daddy is something else entirely.
I ate too much at lunch today! And it was about as non-vegetarian as it could get. Ugh! I’ll never eat meat again. Never ever ever! At least not until I next get a craving for my homemade barbecue sauce on pork ribs.
How gypsy makes barbecue sauce:
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup brown mustard
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon dehydrated onion, garlic, or combination
1 teaspoon smoked Spanish paprika (or cayenne if you prefer heat to smoke)
Mix it all together and use it right away as you would any barbecue sauce.
It’s simple, it’s made with everyday stuff, and it’s good. Ta da!!!!!
I turned on my my computer, and hit the Real Player set to AAR, expecting to hear Malloy. As you know, today Tyger Thom is on. So I was about to go post something sarcastic about the change–as I usually do in these sorts of petty situations–when I came across the “Malloy Fired!” stuff. What has happened? I thought he just signed a contract.:mad::mad:
they could have implied they were going to renew his contract and then yanked him the last minute.
mr fk should have a story tonight. i think he interviewed gen casey today.
blog father HAS to be PJ
best barbecue sauce: Head Country
Malloy stated more than once that he had been renewed. Back on in NYC…How brutal. Malloy was so good. My hunch is that it was a last minute decision. But who knows? Why was he yanked in the middle of his substitutiong for Randi?
:fu: AAR!
OTD travis:omg:
I think perhaps Malloy yanked himself from subbing for Randi. My friend who used to work in radio says they rarely give you that little notice. Although she did say that Marc got way more notice and leeway to handle it than she’d ever heard a radio host get. She says he must be gold to be treated that well. I told her she was very right. She regrets never having listened to him.
I like Malloy, but I wonder if this might open the door for Marc Maron? I’ve not read much of anything here today so if the idea seems lame . . . excuse my ignorance. $.02
So from now on we refer to pj as Blogfather? Anyone else a fan of Terry Pratchett? If you are, surely (No I won’t stop calling you Shirley!) you recognize why this is so damn funny. (Not insulting per se. Just funny as hell.)
The only way Malloy’s being fired could benefit Marc is if the two of them are able to be hired by some other network or syndicate to do their radio magic for them. I can’t imagine Marc letting AAR have him back.
I listened to Mike yesterday. He had a very good show, devoted to Katrina. He even mentioned that he will be back on in NY when they move to the new station. He made snide comments about AAR management but I’ve heard him do that before. I was looking forward to hearing him today.:rant1: Sam is a huge fan of Malloy’s. I wonder if he will mention it.
Someone at Air America needs to leak the new program schedule. It will be interesting to see what radio personality takes Malloy’s place.
You think that Malloy just quit? I am baffled. I still have not sorted out why Morning Sedition got axed. My hypothesis was that it was a budget-cutting move. But why Malloy? He had a small staff. His following was big–I think. Did he get bad arbitrons? I recently read on the WFMU blog that Malloy was yanked from NYC–and replaced by Satellite Sisters– because of low Arbitron ratings. Proof?
Hey. Was Mike pulled for political reasons? DLC loves Israel. The party must not criticize the beleaguered nation. Mike was way out of bounds on this. Was Mike too radical? Was Mike Donahued?
Goddamn AAR!:fu: Why the fuck am I still listening?
You can’t get information from Air America’s site. Hell they still have Marc Maron up as being syndicated.
I’ll weigh in on the BB sauce. Having lived in Kansas City for 30 years, my favorite BB sauce is hands down Gates. As a vegetarian I would use it on French Fries!!
FK, I haven’t forgotten your order. I have one I think you will like but was waiting in hopes of getting extra cool ones. to work with. 😎
Where else is there to go? Why doesn’t Sirius pick up Malloy and Maron? Al Franken needs to take a pay cut goddamnit.
AAR must be in worse shape financially than I’d have imagined.
Hell, Franken needs to take a looooooooooong vacation.
Does anyone listen to Springer? Has he said ANYTHING? And what’s the gossip on Randi’s discussion boards? I can’t open that many windows just now.
I don’t think it was Franken–or his contract.
Was the decision economic? (Low Arbitron?)
Personal? Management did not like his style?
Political? Was Malloy too radical for the AAR Bigshots?
OTD! What does that mean:paranoid:
We need a few more radicals on radio Nicki. Not less. I donno what to think about all this. :paranoid:
I guess arr wants free radicals.
I agree that it was probably financial. Good question: Is AAR worse off financially than we thought? (Could be.) I think it may be political. The big financial backers don’t want a raging progressive on their network. Does anybody remember what happened at the Pacifica stations several years ago? Clintonoids.
Free Radicals off of their network. Malloy got DONAHUED I am afraid.
free radicals aren’t good:nod:

Upstairs. You?
Molloy was great yesterday. And I was really looking forward to being able to listen to him on a regular basis again, even though I sometimes have to turn him off when he gets too shrill. I don’t know what AAR is thinking, but :fu: the management. :rant1::rant1::rant1: Does Rove have a mole in the executive suites? :rant1::rant1::sammy:
Maybe they’ll keep the Silly Sisters after all. And Springer. AAR: Dumb and Dumberer.
dowwwnstairs you want a drink?
In the A:nod:
No, I’m good. thanks
Another f*ckup by AAR. If WWRL isn’t picking up AAR till noon, that leaves Franken and Randi as the only shows I’ll be able to pick up because of WWRL’s weakass nighttime signal — so it’s goodbye AAR for me.
At least with the cancellation of MS I’ve had time to get used to AAR not being as big a part of my life. WXPK in Briarcliff Manor (107.1) is a good music station; they’ll get more of my listening time.
It would be good for Marc to get back on radio. Back in L.A. less than a year, and already he’s reduced to doing fat jokes. I’m glad I didn’t shlep into the city on Sunday night to hear him say nasty things about people like me. I did a big blog entry on it today here.
Can I GET any more disillusioned?:no::rant1:
And by the way, I think it really sucks that the move to WWRL is less than 48 hours away but AAR still hasn’t condescended to announce the new lineup. What in bloody hell is it supposed to be on Friday morning, a surprise? Way to treat their “beloved listeners.” :rant1: What a bunch of screw-ups.:spank:
Time for a major house-cleaning in the exec suites.:jason:
I was a little surprised to hear the “fat” joke also Brilliant. I really don’t think Marc meant to offend. But I’m a skinny guy so I cannot relate other than “fag” jokes that are made all the time. I guess I’ve developed a thick skin over the years.

Hey Fred! Travis, Sblue . . . you guys blog no matter where you are a?
Yeah, so Heron found a friend and now I’m kinda just sitting here. OK.:knit2:
She finish that “Hemp” hat for you Travis? You at the Moon? Seattle must be a fun city. I’d love to live in Atlanta. Birmingham’s downtown is DEAD.
Nicki let us know if you hear anything more about this Malloy story. I’m listening to Maron and Seder again. Love Marc’s imitation of Al Franken’s laugh! Omg, so funny!
either satellite company should pick up maron. i keep writing xm, and now malloy, too. i agree, something doesn’t smell right at AAR. today Rachel vented that she wanted to be able to talk about her new show and time slots but was not allowed to do it….she said she was frustrated and would do something crazy if not allowed to soon. anyone else hear that?
isi, just surprise me – they’ll get here when they get here! Ok, will look in to Gates BUT Head Country is from Ponca City, OK and I eat it as a dipping sauce with vegetables. 😀
One of the lessons one learns in life is that things are not always what they seem to be. Before I watched Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer’s National Press Club broadcast on C-Span (August 28), I regarded AIPAC as Israel’s friend and promoter. Now I realize that I was wrong. As the two distinguished professors made perfectly clear, anyone who cares about the survival of Israel should scorn the bribes, threats, and blandishments of AIPAC.
AIPAC led the Israeli government onto a path where diplomacy is no longer a tool that Israel can use. Instead, Israel relies on Mao’s dictum that “power comes out of the barrel of a gun” or from a bulldozer that knocks down Palestinians’ homes, uproots their olive groves, and enrages Muslims at Israel’s inhumanity. Backed into a corner with no tool but violence, Israel faces hundreds of millions of increasingly angry Muslims.
If Bush were a true friend of Israel, he would never have let Israel again destroy Lebanon, this time under the pretext of striking at Hezbollah.
AIPAC and Bush have allowed, or caused, Israel to do itself so much damage in the eyes of Muslims and the wider world that a peaceful resolution in the MIddle East is no longer in people’s thoughts. With the mighty US military checked in Iraq by a handful of Sunnis, and the mighty Israeli army checked in Lebanon by a handful of Hezbollah, violence is unlikely to settle the matter in a way that neocons in the US and Zionists in Israel would like.
The only hope is that Bush and Olmert miraculously turn into grown men, admit their mistakes, apologize, send reparations and commit to winning acceptance of Israel and America based on Israel’s and America’s good behavior. It would be nice to see in operation some of the superior morality that the two claim.
Considering the extraordinary hubris and self-righteousness of neocons and Zionists, nothing like this can possibly happen. Israel, the US, and the Muslim world will continue to bleed.

:pent::omg:
my hair looks good
We all seem to be having a bad hair day .. since noon time at least .. Sheeez what in the F* is AAR thinking … :yuck::yuck::yuck::yuck::crap::crap::crap::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::paranoid::paranoid:
I haven’t asked about the hat yet, Cnick. I’ll do that, thanks
I was having a bad hair month but that’s what happens when I don’t go to the sylist as often as I should. Now I’m positively hot :nixon:
It is a oversimplification to imply obese people just “eat to much.” I’ve been skinny much of my life. Always had a complex about that. It took thirty to slow my metabolism enough to finally put on some weight. Now I wished I was that skinny boy again. A little plump in the middle. 🙁 but most ppl say I still look skinny. (He he) they wouldn’t think that if they saw me naked!
Our mental images of ourselves are often worse than preceived by others. Gay ppl tend to obsess about their look. I worry about it, but know that there is only so much I can do. Exercise? I’m lazy. Botox? It costs to much and my credit cards are at the max as it is. The cheapest fix might be to dye my hair should it decide to turn grey. I think I could afford “Just for men.” As for sexual disfunction? Viagra works wonders. Where is that fountain of youth? It’ll prolly be found the day after I drop dead. My kind of luck.
The problem with both the Bush regime and OldFarts regime is that they are conservative so they will continue to see every problem as a nail and every solution as a hammer until some puny loud mouth lobs a couple of ICBM’s into their laps , they will respond and we will get bear :crap: all over all of us. :yuck::paranoid:
Un-fucking-believable. AAR is freakin’ pitiful. Not just that they shitcanned Mike, but to give them the all-clear to say they’ll be back on in NYC and then fire him….
I think AAR is just about dead. Good for Sam, if he actually makes it to his new time slot, but AAR just plain sucks.
Arghhhh!!! Just catching up on reading the blog (was away most of the day) Malloy fired … Air America grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:fu:
NYLefty has posted insightful things on various AAR-related blogs from the beginning. Here is what he posted on Malloy’s Message Board:
I think the main trouble was that too many stations were too chicken to broadcast Mike. Most AAR affiliates carry Franken, Rhodes, and maybe one other AAR show, and too often that other show wasn’t Mike’s.
AAR has no control over what shows its affiliates carry and most stations carried Lionel, Alan Colmes, some other syndicated show, or — as in the case of KTLK in Los Angeles — a local host in the late evening spot that Mike occupied on the network.
A lack of clearances was also responsible for the deaths of Unfiltered, Morning Sedition, etc. Sounds like too many station managements thought that potential advertisers would be put off by Mike’s rants. It doesn’t matter how many fans you have if you don’t have clearances and advertising.
FK, watched NBC news in order to see Mike’s report. So much killing! He does look like he’s been avoiding the food. What a voice he has!! The unfortunate thing was I left the teevee on after the Baghdad report and heard President chucklenuts :barf: (Malloy’s great term) and a report on the rising violence in this country. Gee, wonder why that is?? 😯
Glad you clued me in to the origin of Head BBQ sauce. They must be good they won two times at the American Royal BBQ contest.
Re #144: I heard Rachel say that, too, and wondered what the hell is going on.
This whole thing has a really bad smell.:paranoid::mad:
I was so happy when AAR went on the air. Now :fu: I’d rather listen to an all-news-all-the-time station that a neutered AAR. I am sooooo glad that I never succombed to their appeals for money. What a bunch of expletive-deleteds.
Hey, Brilliant, speaking as a proudly Fat American (I do think my inherent laziness is a good part of the cause but I also look at my parents and my whole family and realize that a good part of it is genetic, too) I get really tired of fat jokes and the constant pressure to be thin. The way we (especially women) are taught by everything out there to hate our bodies can’t be healthy, no matter what health issues might be related to overweight. Hating our bodies makes us take less care of ourselves, not more.
That said…Marc was a fat kid and his family sounds like mine. There’s a peculiar obsession with eating and being fat. My mother still asks what I had for dinner and gets annoyed if it’s too high in fat or carbs, even though I’m in my mid-fifties and she lives a continent away from me. If I tell her I’m having a bowl of chili for dinner, she’ll say, “turkey, vegetarian, what?” If I tell her I’m having a cheeseburger she’ll say, “Oh, you don’t need all that cheese. Have a turkey burger instead.” With that kind of family background, he may be making fat jokes to reassure himself.
I thought AAR was moving to the center for awhile. Now I think it’s being ripped open and is having the progressive part of what makes it work put to the scalpal and knife the way Jack Nicholson was lobotomized in “One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest”
good analysis Nicki. It does’nt make it hurt any less, though
What will be on Mike’s show tonight?
FK, Steve Sinton, running for Congress from Georgia will be on with Sam tonight. I wonder if he is related to the Sinton at AAR?
PJ, it looks like Sam is about all we have left. I’d like to see the new program schedule. If Malloy isn’t on it I wonder who is? First the Presidency. And now the dumbing down of Air America? I wonder when “Lost” and “24” return to television? Not gonna be anything worth listening to on AAR if this keeps up. Even though I’m gay I’ve never really cared much for Rachel Maddow. I will cross my fingers that somehow Marc finds his way back to radio or at least podcasts. He said last night he has an Apple computer. Well hell Marc, use that GD iLife software built into every Mac and offer us starved liberals some Maron rants. I live in Timbuktu and Maron isn’t likely to ever bring the funny here. I won’t laugh again until Marc’s back on the radio. The lack of Maron is a very sad thing! 😥
I used to always trot out the “Unfilterd not picked up nationally” mantra a lot to explain the AAR decision to cancel that show. Is this the reason why Malloy was dumped? KPOJ picked his show up right away. He was one of their “Blocks of Granite.”
Dirty, double-dealing bastards. :fu:AAR/DLC management.
NYLefty posted a lot of “insight” into Morning Sedition, too. Stuff like, it was never up to AAR to promote the show, and that the show didn’t have the ratings required to keep it on the air.
Sam is gonna talk about Malloy. Just said so. Listen up guys!
Apparently AAR is’t interested in competing in morning drive time. No doubt Springer decided whatever he was paying to get on the air via AAR wasn’t worth it, so they’ll “let” Sam take over that slot, while Rachel (who would make a good newsreader/feature reporter on somebody’s show will now be on in primetime. Sorry, but  And now, no Mike (after they told him he’d be back on in NYC). Let’s see, other than Sammy, that leaves, um, well, hang on let me think….
isi, yep, thought he looked pretty good. i wanted a different story though. network news drives me nuts – and he knows it! :tinfoil: he…, well, i can’t really post stuff in so public a forum….so melina’s idea last night was actually a fine idea. glad you caught him, though. …… i turned off the news when the monkeyboy came on…. :barf:
as for aar = i like the idea the drobny’s (sp?) are pursuing – buying the actual stations where they can control the content and hustle for advertisers.
the dem running in my district doesn’t look pro-women’s rights. :rant1:
Goddamn:mad::mad: fucking:fu::fu: spineless chickenshit faux :evil:DLC-run aar :jerk::jerk:managment firing malloy- :spank::spank::fustrate::fustrate::fustrate::jason::jason::jason::rant1::rant1::rant1:taking away the only real meaningful therapy that I could afford:fu::fu::fu::fu::fu::growl::growl::growl::growl::growl:
Hey. I didn’t say Lefty was perfect, just that he makes sense some of the time. If I remember right, I chased him off of this blog with a crack about him being more of a capitalist than a lefty.
Sam knows how to use a tease! GDit Sam tell us what you know. Is he gonna wait till the last segment to talk about Malloy?
Has Sam said anything about Malloy? Yet?
I guess not. :omg:
haven’t heard anything yet
Posted on MR blog
thanks, isi…
Good find.
REVERSE THAT AWFUL DECISION YOU SWINE!
Thanks isi, maybe Seder will say something on-air soon.
thanks isi, sinton is on now and he is the one affiliated with aar!!
gawd, I need to move to his district.
What a effed up network AAR is!!! If they didn’t already have my money, I’d tell them where to stick the subscription!
Why is AAR so determined to commit suicide???:fu::fu::fu:
Sam is right. It’s all about controlling the sexuality of GIRLS.
Why, oh why, are Christians so afraid of women’s sexuality? :priest:
:pent:
http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?Malloy
Another petition.
After all this unbelievable shit, you guys are really still not over AAR? Man, you’re a helluva lot nicer than i am. I’m for Maron and Earl, and that’s it. This whole thing is way past the farce stage. Anyone stupid and reckless enough to kill Morning Sedition really deserves to die. What am I missing here? :sammy:
I guess we perhaps naively cling to the hope that something good must happen. That so much shit has been tossed on our plate that something good will come our way. Hope is the word that keeps me going. It sustains me. Watching Air America radio fold before our eyes might make some believe that liberalism is on its last breath. I cannot believe this. Bush and his corrupt party has surely breathed new life into our cause. It is Air America execs that do not believe in the cause. Corporate America is trying to snuff it out.
I’m afraid that all we will be left with on AAR is the original idea — the fast fading aura of a few idealistic people like Lizz Winstead and company who wanted to recreate some of the magic of The Daily Show and transfer it to radio. Well, we heard it and lived it and now it has been officially vaporized, save for Seder.
For all intents and purposes, AAR has turned into NPR with commercials replacing the fund-raising.
The bright side is that Malloy, Maron and the rest will reconnect somehow and somewhere.
There’s so much shit, there has to be a pony in here somewhere!
It’s not just Christians who fear and control the sexuality of women. All those Middle Eastern religions, Judaism and Islam as well as Christianity are all from the same mold.
I’ll tell ya why I hate the thought of AAR’s impending implosion. It’s because I can’t stand the thought of the Limbaughs, Hannitys, Coulters, Savages, Becks, O’Reillys, Freepers, and the rest of their ilk laughing with glee at the fact that AAR failed. Because their kind will take it as a victory – as a sign that nobody wants to hear “liberal” talk radio (never mind that much of it was never all that liberal), and that they reign supreme on radio, television, and the rest of the media. Because it will only encourage media outlets to dismiss, ignore, and supress a progressive point of view. Because even though AAR management has seemingly gone out of their way to fail, AAR is the best chance there was to get an alternative viewpoint out to the masses. Sorry, Ed Schultz just doesn’t get ‘er done. Democracy Now! is great for the choir, but (much as I like her) Amy Goodman could put a cokehead to sleep.
So, anyhow, that’s why I hate the thought of AAR folding up and going away.
Yeah blame it on us gays again!
What ignorant backwoods ppl. Prolly from Alabama. God why was I born in this state?
The dumbing down of America.
If gays have so much power then why do I feel powerless?
I guess everyone is blogging over at Majority Report. :paranoid:
I’ve always maintained that the south won by losing. I didn’t realize til I read “Peoples History of America” how we bent over post civil-war to keep people and things in place in the south as if nothing had ever happened and that it’s continued til today:jerk::crap:
Olbermann on Rummy.
Hey, Sam say Mike Malloy got fired from Air America. Is this a prank??:omg:
I’m pissed off to Sam!
Not a prank
http://www.mikemalloy.com/
:omg::fu:
Go to Mikemalloy.com
Sam signed off tonight by saying it is stupid and horse crap that they would fire Malloy. And, that he is pissed off. He mentioned that there are phone #’s in the comments section of his blog, if you want to call AAR. He said the crappy satellite sisters are following him.
Hey Kristapea, good to see you here. I would stay and blog with you but its bedtime. Work early. Still wanna podcast with you.
Goodnight Sheeple!
Sam is a stand up guy.
Nite nite Cnick
Good night, :sheep:le!
How ironic, I’m hearing a Mike Malloy promo where he says nyah nyah to AAR naysayers and brags about Randi getting a 4 year contract and the future of AAR.:doh:
Well, I guess it’s time to pull up the ole AAR contacts email page and, yet again express my outrage at another :fu: :crap: decision. I don’t even like Mike Malloy sometimes but I listen occasionally and I think his voice is important on Air America. Fuck!
PJ, I agree totally with you.
This is why I despise right-wing radio. The son-in-law of the Chairman of Salem Communications, syndicator of Hugh Hewitt, Michael Medved and other radio cretins, is running for the Repug Senate primary in Florida against Katherine Harris. Wouldn’t you know that simultaneous to Harris’s pending implosion, Hugh Hewitt brings on the heir to the radio dynasty to his talk show and fawns all over him. The candidate, Will McBride, counts Karl Rove as a close family friend. This should not happen. The whole thing is sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, :barf:
p.s. that’s the first time I have ever used PJ’s emoticons. “Use only in case of emergency.”
Petition to put Mike back on from DU:!:

Web Hubbel’s breakin’ it OUT!
Hey, sheeple….when AAR folds, as it will, fret not, for we still have the Living Embodiment of Edward R. Murrow in the person of Keith Olbermann. Click his name and view the best damn commentary on the state of government that we’ve seen since Murrow took down Joe McCarthy.
I sent notes of support to AAR Premium for both Malloy and Seder a few weeks ago. I got a nice response from the Seder department, but the Malloy note apparently went into a black hole because I got a form letter back. I kind of figured something was up.
Message:
I support Malloy 100%. The fact that he plays no favorites in religion and casts a critical eye to them all makes him the most cutting voice on the radio — especially in a nation that values the separation of church and state.
Response: August 11, 2006, 10:58 AM
Thank You for contacting Air America Radio. This support service exists for paid Premium Subscribers to get assistance, ask questions, or other wise contact us for help with our Premium Service. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention, but unfortunately aside from notifying the appropriate department, there is no further action Premium Support is able to take.
No wonder assistance starts with an ASS!
OK…Im home! What a day…what an evening. Ive been to hell and back.
So who took over for Malloy in markets where he followed Sam?
I was driving in NY and listening to Marc from last night’s MR with Will (who hadnt heard it) and I tuned in for a minute at the end to see what he wold say…and he just said that he didnt know who was up next…We, of course, get the sattelite sisters.
Jill,
The Olbermann clip is stirring. I predict Stephanie Miller will be sending out marriage proposals tomorrow morning.
“In what country was Mr. Rumsfeld raised?”
Isn’t the satellite sisters the company that makes port-a-potties?
:crap:
Werbe came on after Seder.
Damn her to HELL! He’s MINE! All mine!! :growl:
You know, Im thinking that Malloy is lucky to be out of this shit….I wonder whats going on with Rachel…and this reminds me of Mark and Marc having a “big announcement” or whatever and then it got canned.
Im sure that its easier to just put the prepackaged sattellite assholes in there….
Im so tired that I cant even proof my blog entry …so I guess Ill just try to go to bed…
Will did good Kat…and I hope that he will be OK. he is very nervous, but we are workign out strategies to deal with anxiety.
PJ- I hope school was good….still didnt try to fix that problem but that directory with the 3 slashes doesnt exist, as Ive tried to change it before. I have to get to Dreamweaver support though I have a feeling that it may be a frontpage problem…ugh!
Tomorrow is slow, so Ill try to work on these things.
Might just be easier to activate RIPCoco the site and leave Hi’s the way it is for now.
How big of a server would one have to buy to stream their own radio show?…..dont you have to have your own server?
Great clip Brill….
I dont know why Marc went off on fat people….
I dont know if he understands how painful and horrible it can be for people who are fighting it…and most are fighting it and not comfortable with themselves because of cultural images.
Just look at the picture of Nicole Richie on the chekout stand and you can see how close most of those icons are to actual death.
I blogged while he was on MR last night about the NYTimes magazine article that explores work being done that suggests that some sort of microbe or germ might be part of some cases of morbid obesity….I just dont think that anyone should be using something that has not been studied closely enough and is such a problem and simplify it like that.
People are in pain and I dont see much difference between Marc’s own booze problem or cigarettes or drugs….
He almost went off that edge for me when he attacked antidepressants, but then he said that of course if you have a clinical depression, go ahead and use them….He was a moment away from pulling a Tom Cruise, and I wouldve gone crazy…literally and figuratively:grin:
Hes joking around, and it didnt work….
I dont think he was trying to be mean….and Ill bet that that stuff finds its way out of his act pretty quickly. Its just too bad that it got on the TV special.
Its not nearly as bad as that harlan asshole guy who picked a heavy man out from the audience and ripped on him over and over calling him Pillsbury doughboy and blueberry poptart (I guess he had on a blue shirt)
I was happy with the show in general….but I dont like any humor that attacks how anyone looks…..its just too mean in a culture like ours that sets us all up for failure…..
I still torture myself abotu my weight even though Im pretty normal for someone my age and height….Will thinks hes fat and he is a stringbean….my sister is anorexic…and Ive had friends almost die of that disease, as well as obesity…..
So Marc is stepping in it…and I hope that I made him think with that post….
Is he next gonna say that Lyme disease isnt real, like half the Drs around here?…
OK…nite all….
another sad day in liberal radio-land
Wow! The Malloy petition is growing fast. There’s already over 700 signatures.
Hey! My emails to Rob Glaser and Jon Sinton, both were “rejected by the server”, WTF!
Peeps, come and throw it down with me later, like, at 45 after the hour. Cool?
Wow..very slow blog tonight…:alc:
Listening to Peter Werbe tonight subbing for Malloy?
He sounds like a dialed down Malloy with some of the same phrases.
Anyone heard from Seanie Sean?:paranoid:
Oh, so, that’s a no, then.
:mad::omg::smack: 🙁
I’m here- busy reading the above…

You ready?
If you’re planning a commercial venture you will run into the same brick wall that AAR sold their soul to get through. Independent commercial free radio was the liberal way in the past and will be the liberal way in the future. Commercial radio is nothing more than a platform for the advertisers. Commercial radio is not about good radio it’s about selling advertising. Regardless if it is serious music or serious talk radio it will never EVER fly on commercial radio. If you really want to end this situation stop supporting commercial radio and seek out independent internet stations for your music, news and talk shows. There are a thousand times more choices and even if you don’t use computers they now sell internet radio receivers for about $100 that connect to your modem or DSL/cable and to your home stereo and require NO computer to operate. Also there is a movement in the cell phone market to recruit internet radio stations for live transmission over their cellular networks for no charge to the users. RadioPower has been in talks with Motorola and others about getting on their radio station preset list. My point being is that the NEED for these large corporations like Clear Channel or Air America is already coming to an end and they know it; enter the NET NEUTRALITY debate. The whole broadcasting world knows that live streaming is about to take over the radio and later the TV/cable market. They are positioning themselves by hook or by crook to dominate internet radio. The RIAA and other recording giants already demolished music radio on the net years ago when they got congress to classify internet radio streams are equal to download services like iTunes so they charge us for each user stream per song royalty as if you’re downloading the track for your iPod. But FM radio stations don’t pay this royalty because they are viewed as a promotional asset. Why? Because they have a monopoly on the dial and thus they can be controlled of content. Which leads us back to firing Malloy because they couldn’t sell enough advertising. The only way to SOMEDAY get freedom over the content of our radio programs is to support independent commercial free INTERNET RADIO.
