OK, anybody out there running a Shoutcast server on linux, let me know. I have the damn thing set up and configured, and I can browse to the admin page, but damned if I can get any music out of it. It just says the server is currently down. There’s got to be something simple, but damned if I can figure it out. I suppose I could just run it on a Windows box (it would be a lot easier), but I’m trying to get some quality linux time in. I figure if we’re gonna get this Seditionists Radio going, we need to have broadcast source. One nice thing is that, with Shoutcast, you can not only set up a server to broadcast on-demand mp3 (and it keeps people from downloading the mp3 files – though of course there are ways around it), but other servers can be set up as relays, so we could all share a little bit of our bandwidth, all with our existing Internet connections. That’s assuming we actually had enough listeners where we’d have to worry about it. I suppose that’s a little bit premature, since we don’t actually have anything to push out to the masses, but, what the hell. If we build it, they will come. Anyhow, have a good Thursday.
