Here in NY (as well as AZ, DE, DC, MD, MN, NH, RI, and VT, I believe), it’s Primary Day (aka, the first opportunity I have to plant the kiss of death on scandidate by voting for them; I don’t exactly have a very good track record with elections). I never used to get to vote in the Primary, because, for years (ever since I first registered) I was a proudly registered “no preference,” and here in NY State, that means you can’t vote until the General. But then the Republicans impeached Clinton, and that was such a useless, stupid, time and money wasting exercise, that I figured, goshdarnit, I’m gonna register as a Democrat. For some reason, here in NY it takes like a year when you change your party affiliation for you to become eligible to vote in the Primary, and the first Primary I actually wound up voting in was for the 2004 election, when I voted for Howard Dean, who promptly got stomped. Sorry, Howie.
So, today, I’ll go out and cast my symbolic votes for a slate full of candidates who (realistically) haven’t a prayer of getting nominated, let alone winning in November. Jonathan Tasini has my vote (to be honest, I’d have preferred Steve Greenfield) over Hillary. Sean Patrick Maloney will get my vote for Attorney General (looks like Andy Cuomo in a landslide, and, even if he loses, it’ll be to Mark Green, and not Maloney). The only “winner” I’m going for this time around is Eliot Spitzer for Governor. I’m sure there’ll be someone out there to tell me why he’s not worthy, but he’s made a career (at least as AG) of going after corporate corruption, is for gay marriage (in a debate with his opponent, Tom Suozzi – who is for “civil unions” – Suozzi said something to the effect that their differences were just a matter of semantics, to which Spitzer turned to Suozzi and replied, “it isn’t about semantics. It’s about equality”), and, well, he’s gonna crush whichever chump the Republicans put up against him anyway (and we haven’t had a Jewish Governor here in NY since Herb Lehman, the new-deal Democrat, Liberal, and Labor man who succeeded FDR, way back when, – so I reckon it’s about time). It’ll be awfully nice to get rid of George Putztaki, at the very least.
Plus, I dodged the Jury Duty bullet for at least another day.

“It is a struggle for civilisation. We are fighting to maintain a way of life enjoyed by free nations,” Mr Bush said during the speech, broadcast during primetime on US networks.

No surprise that this CRIMINAL continues to attempt to tie Iraq to 9/11. He must be removed from office, and we must elect people who are willing to make this happen.
I put up with a lot of crap at my job so that occasionally I can do things like make donations to progressive candidates for office. I will be giggling my ass off all the way to the mail slot today.
And I will be giggling twice as hard in November when Jeeni Criscenzo wins election to the House in CA district 49.

the rethugs in georgia passed a law requiring a photo ID when voting. they also passed a law where you can request to vote by mail every election.
Supposedly you can avoid the unverified diebold machines if you vote absentee via the mail. So, I downloaded the forms to vote by mail and sent them in. No where and at no time do I have to show any identification, let alone one with my photo.
Our county clerk was saying that they optically scan the absentee/ mail in ballots and if they get rejected they get put in a pile and if the election is close they then enter them manually on a touch screen voting machine.:eek:
They have a signature verification system of some sort, You have to sign the mail in ballot and if it gets rejected because of an improper signature you get a postcard saying so but you can’t vote again. 😮
😮 is right.
Colorado also requires a picture ID with a correct address on it to vote at the polling stations. You can get one free from the country clerk’s office or at the drivers license offices. :omg:

This is a VERY interesting survey of religious belief in the US:
The United States calls itself one nation under God, but Americans don’t all have the same image of the Almighty in mind.
A new survey of religion in the USA finds four very different images of God — from a wrathful deity thundering at sinful humanity to a distant power uninvolved in mankind’s affairs.
Forget denominational brands or doctrines or even once-salient terms like “Religious Right.” Even the oft-used “Evangelical” appears to be losing ground.

A Dailykos diarist talks about continuing to pressure Disney and ABC for “Path to 9/11.” Apparently their yellow journalism adventure managed to anger American Airlines by blaming their screening of passengers that were actually screened by United Airlines. I thought this might be another way to grate upon them. From today’s Dailykos:
ABC has done something else worth noting. There have been two (so far) diaries about how PT9/11 defames American Airlines. Do as Officious Intermeddler says, and tell AA you are now SCARED to fly their airline. Make sure to mention PT 9/11 as your reason.

Disney unwittingly did us all a huge favor by putting this 911 abortion on the air, which no one with a brain defends, especially when no body but Rush Limbaugh and his boyfriends watched, provided of course that the boycott activity continues. The Sponsors have spoken, and that’s better than the voice of God to these people. Should have a wonderful deterrant effect on the other networks – what did Napoleon say about why he would execute one of his generals for no reason from time to time? “Pour encourager les autres.” :sammy:
I think the people were screened by “US Air” and not United nor American Airlines.

Generally passenger screenings occur at the point of origin . If that was some local airport and a feeder airline using the copilot as the desk clerk, one has to wonder . Freight is also screened that way so that Sea Land Container originating in Tehran and going by rail across China to Singapore got screened in Tehran by Iranians.. ( live in fear):eek::eek:

U.S. Commanders in Iraq have privately expressed the need for an increase of three times the number of troops currently serving in Iraq, reports Michael Ware of CNN. Officially, the military continues to say that “we have an appropriate level of force to do what we have to do within the confines of our mission.”
Ramadi has become a base of operations for Al Qaeda. Ware says, “Al Qaeda is almost untouched in its area of operations, and in the city of Ramadi itself, al Qaeda fighters are constantly attacking U.S. troops. Brigades sent to Ramadi are losing, on average, 100 American soldiers and Marines every year. And we don’t see that abating. So, here’s the heart of Al Qaeda in Iraq, and there’s simply not enough troops and no strategy to combat it.”

Playboy magazine commissioned a poll to address what it called a common misconception that the majority of its readers are liberal Democrats.
Really? People think only Democrats read Playboy? Who knew?
Playboy surveyed 1,000 people. Half were drawn from a nationally representative sample of adults age 21 and older, while the other half came from its subscriber rolls.
The odd premise aside, the magazine’s “Playboy Voter” feature in this month’s edition outlined the following conclusions from its survey:
— 79 percent of those surveyed voted in the 2004 presidential election, 15 percentage points higher than the national average.
— 36 percent of its readers are Republicans compared to 25 percent Democrat, 25 percent independent and 14 percent other parties.
— 72 percent of Playboy readers favor stem cell research compared with 61 percent of the non-reader group sampled.
— Half of Playboy’s readers oppose a ban on gay marriage, double the number in the non-reader group.
This is the first of a two-part look at voting patterns of Playboy readers. The second segment will appear in its November edition, according to a release from the magazine.

Farmerkat, here’s one more tomatillo recipe.
MANGO-TOMATILLO SALSA – (c) 1993 Andy Perrin
=====================
Ingredients:
————
3 ripe mangoes
6 large cloves garlic
4 large ancho chilies (adjust to taste; you can use commercial
chili powder if you must)
15 tomatillos (mexican green, tomato-type vegetables; you can mix
or substitute plum tomatoes if necessary; i actually used half
and half)
1 large white onion
2 limes
1 bunch fresh cilantro (or parsley)
vinegar
Instructions:
————-
Roast the Ancho Chilies and the garlic in an oven. Remove the chilies
when they are puffed out, and the garlic when it is soft and warm.
Dice the mangoes, tomatillos, tomatoes, and onion and mix them in a
large bowl. Add a small amount of vinegar (about 1 tablespoon) and the
juice of the two limes.
Puree or smash the cloves of roasted garlic and add them to the mixture.
Crumble the Chilies into the mixture. If you like it hotter, leave the
seeds in; if not, take them out.
Wash and add the cilantro and any extra chili powder to taste.
Mix the salsa until it’s well-combined. Put it in the refrigerator and
let it sit a few hours before serving.

Dear Friends and Relatives:
I have the distinguished honor of being on the committee to raise $5,000,000 for a monument to George W. Bush. We originally
wanted to put him on Mt. Rushmore until we discovered there was not enough room for two more faces.
We then decided to erect a statue of George in the Washington, DC Hall Of Fame. We were in a quandary as to where the statue should be placed. It was not proper to place it beside the statue of George
Washington, who never told a lie, or beside Richard Nixon, who never told the truth, since George could never tell the difference.
We finally decided to place it beside Christopher
Columbus, the greatest Republican of them all. He left not knowing where he was going, and when he got there he did not know where he was. He returned not knowing where he had been, decimated the well being of the majority of the population while he was there,
and did it all on someone else’s money.
Thank you,

The Moral Bankruptcy of Israel’s Founding Idea
The Coming Collapse of Zionism
By KATHLEEN CHRISTISON
Former CIA Analyst
Is it only observers outside the conventional mainstream who have noticed that by its murderous assault on Lebanon and simultaneously on Gaza, Israel finally exposed, for even the most deluded to see, the total bankruptcy of its very founding idea?
Can it be that the deluded are still deluded? Can it truly still be that Israel’s bankruptcy is evident only to those who already knew it, those who already recognized Zionism as illegitimate for the racist principle that underlies it?
Can it be therefore that only the already converted can see coming the ultimate collapse of Zionism and, with it, of Israel itself as the exclusivist state of Jews?
Racism has always been the lifeblood of Israel. Zionism rests on the fundamental belief that Jews have superior national, human, and natural rights in the land, an inherently racist foundation that excludes any possibility of true democracy or equality of peoples. Israel’s destructive rampage in Lebanon and Gaza is merely the natural next step in the evolution of such a founding ideology. . .

Abbas Announces Deal With Hamas
Rival Palestinian Movements Agree to Work Together to Create Unity Government
By Scott Wilson
Washington Post Foreign Service
Tuesday, September 12, 2006; Page A18
JERUSALEM, Sept. 11 — Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas announced Monday that the governing Hamas movement and his rival Fatah party have agreed on the principles of a power-sharing government and may soon form a new cabinet to lead the beleaguered Palestinian Authority.
Under the plan, Abbas, the authority’s president, is to dissolve the current Hamas-led cabinet within 48 hours. Abbas would then nominate the current Hamas prime minister, Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas officials said, to assemble a coalition cabinet that would include members of his party, Fatah, other factions, and so-called technocrats unaligned with the leading movements.
Details of the agreement mark the first time Hamas has tacitly endorsed a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, if not explicitly the Jewish state’s right to exist. Hamas and Fatah announced a tentative agreement several months ago, but it was never officially signed because of the tumult of an Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip following the June 25 capture of Israeli Cpl. Gilad Shalit by gunmen from Hamas’s military wing.
-snip-
The deal follows contentious negotiations over a unified political program that would satisfy the rival Palestinian movements, as well as bring about an end to international sanctions against the Palestinian Authority. International donors froze aid after Hamas defeated the secular Fatah movement in elections eight months ago. Israel has withheld hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue that it collects on the Palestinian state’s behalf.

Apple unveils online movie store
By MAY WONG, AP Technology Writer
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Apple Computer launched its long-awaited online movie service Tuesday with minimal participation from Hollywood and showed off a device that will make it easier for consumers to watch the videos on television.
The iTunes Music Store will only carry movies from The Walt Disney Co. studios, where Apple CEO Steve Jobs is a board member. By contrast, Amazon’s movie service launched last week with distribution deals with seven studios — but not Disney.
At a media event Tuesday, Jobs also showed off a compact gadget, dubbed iTV, that will allow consumers to watch movies purchased online — as well as other digital content stored on a computer — on a connected television set. It will sell for $299 and be available early next year.
He said more than 75 films will be available from Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar, Touchstone Pictures and Miramax. New releases will be priced at $12.99, when pre-ordered and during the first week of sale, or $14.99 afterward. Library titles will be sold for $9.99 each.
Jobs also announced a new iPod nano with a 24-hour battery life and new games for the portable media player. The new iPods will come in five colors, and will sell for between $149 and $249.

Apparently Katies pictures have to be photo shopped these days to keep her cute alive .. The TV hasn’t derived a real time photo shop as of yet.:eek::nixon::peace:
Eh, Macs are OK for a desktop, I suppose. Having supported them a bit, I find the supposed reputation for never crashing and being really “easy” to use quite overstated, though. Much better after they went with Unix, I guess. I prefer something where I can pick up a bunch of parts laying around and build a computer out of it.
From the WSJ
1:35 p.m.: The ruling Hamas militant group rejected calls by Blair to moderate its violently anti-Israel ideology. During a trip to the West Bank, Blair said the international community should restore contacts with the Palestinian government if Hamas forms a unity government that accepts Western demands to renounce violence and recognize Israel.
1:10 p.m.: Prodded by visiting Blair, the Israeli and Palestinian leaders said they are ready to resume contacts unconditionally — a small step that could lead toward resumption of peace talks.

The company bought two G5 1.8 GHz machines just to see if they would do the performance data analysis faster than the 2.8 Ghz PC’s would. Trying to install some scientific software tools under OSX proved really confusing .. I ended up putting Yellow Dog Linux on them then everything ran but the computation was no faster so they bought a couple of dual core 3 GHz Intel machines and the MACs are in the store room gathering dust.:paranoid:
Well, you can always use ’em in the winter to heat the place.
I noticed that it was nice and cosy under my desk when they were running. We have a Tek 585 scope that still works and I use it to heat by cubicle during the winter. It makes a neater conversation peace than a MAC under the desk does.:omg::fustrate::paranoid:
We had a Wang that was still doing its thing at the Law School until it finally got retired in 2002 or so. The guy’s office it was in dropped about 20 degrees after he shut it off.
I uh… I like typing on my computer. That’s fun. Or watching a DVD.
BTW, Mayor Daley vetoed Chicago’s Big Box Bill. :fu:
I wish the typical PC manufactures would use regular power supplies and mother boards. I have a couple of older Compaq’s and HP’s that would run again if I didn’t have to spend the money to buy parts from Hp/Compaq. :yuck::yuck::crap::paranoid:
I have a Dell PIII 800 server that’s dual processor capable. So I bought another P3 800 to put in it, but when I cracked the case, I found that you have to insert a voltage regulator board if you’re gonna use second CPU, and they didn’t ship it with it, back in 2000 or whenever it was I got this thing. And they are just about impossible to find – and if you find one, they’re about three times what the CPU cost me. So, there goes that idea. I never shoulda bought a store-bought computer anyway.
Hey everybody! Fred Re 103: The reason to own a Mac? You have the best of both worlds now that Macs can run both Windows and OSX. Try to do that on a Windows box! And with a program called “Parallels” you can run Linux on a Mac also. I’m running all three operating systems on my Imac. As for the new Apple Movie Store. I’m not to impressed with the offering since only Disney Studios and their subsidaries are providing content. What’s with that? If Apple really wants to push the Movie Store it ought to offer PORN! I’d be a customer. Well, if it was gay porn!
WASHINGTON (AP) — Nonlethal weapons such as high-power microwave devices should be used on American citizens in crowd-control situations before being used on the battlefield, the Air Force secretary said Tuesday.
The object is basically public relations. Domestic use would make it easier to avoid questions from others about possible safety considerations, said Secretary Michael Wynne.
“If we’re not willing to use it here against our fellow citizens, then we should not be willing to use it in a wartime situation,” said Wynne. “(Because) if I hit somebody with a nonlethal weapon and they claim that it injured them in a way that was not intended, I think that I would be vilified in the world press.”

So I’m pulling for a Conservative Republican to win in the Rhode Island State Senate primary tonight. Go Laffey Go! Laffey has no chance against the Democrat in the November midterms. If Sen. Lincoln Caffee (R) goes down tonight the Democrats stand a chance of taking back the Senate in 06!
Hey! look who is listed:

Breaking news AAR stream hijacked by the fundies … or maybe the Catholics… Sheeez

I just moved from Arapahoe to Boulder county. Do you know how long I’ve got to change my driver’s license and where? Also, do I get registered to vote at same place?
And also (if it’s not too much) how come I can’t stream AAR now that I’ve moved when I’m able to listen or watch anything else including MP3, Quicktime and Real Player which I’ve got all of on my PC? I’ll buy you a :40: if we ever meet.
A big thanks! and :cat::pup: only cuz’ they remind me of the end of most local news casts on CH 4 and 9 (you know what I mean)

Oh, man…:smack:
Hey everyone!
Before I forget, Tomorrow at 7PM Jim Carroll is reading at the Starbucks Salon in NYC at 76 Greene St (betw Spring & Broome)
I so wish it was Thursday, because Will is going on an overnight school trip Thursday night…But I probably cant get down there tomorrow.
I guess this is a week long trial of a salon sorta situation that runs until the 17th…so they have artists and bands and writers there for 2 to 3 shows per day. They seem to have pretty good people.
I like the idea of coffee house readings and stuff…I just wish there were more independent coffee houses around here.
Gotta go to bed. But I just watched Steve Jobs of Apple Computer announce a new box code named “iTV.” This box streams not only Movies and Television programs downloaded into iTunes to your Home Entertainment System (TV & Sound system), but it will also stream iTunes Music and iPhoto’s pictures to. The box (about the size of a cable box) will retail for just under $300.00 and will work with both Windows and Macs. Go here to watch Steve Jobs webcast. The info about the “iTV” is near the end of the presentation. So I knew there would be a new toy to tempt me. There always is! Someone needs to lock me up while I still have a little money left. Good to know that this new gadget will not be shipping till the first quarter of next year.
Goodnight :sheep:le
125?
Wow! What a day! So, I worked the polls today and I think I did okay, especially for having never done it before. I chose the job that paid the most forgetting that the jobs that pay more have more responsibility. :smack: And we were short handed and no one else had ever done it before either. I have to say, that the Maricopa county elections is superbly oraganized and they have excellent training materials and support. I am quite surprised, actually. Plus we have a new law that says everyone has to show ID. I didn’t think it was too stringent plus, anyone can vote a provisional ballot as long as they are in the right precinct. There were a couple of problems but most people had what they needed and I really think there is plenty of leeway. The biggest problem was with people who had moved recently from a different precinct and didn’t have things like utility bills or ststements with right address yet. Like, they had moved the other day. They have a phone number to track their vote. One guy came in and got pretty pissy about the ID thing and left in a huff. One of my coworkers had recognized his name and lo and behold, he was on the stinkin ballot! He was a Democrat. He came back later with the proper ID, still a little miffed. Whatever! Not sure what he was trying to prove there. But all in all it was a pretty good experience and I am SO GLAD that this was a primary and not the midterm election. It wasn’t so busy and I got to finally find out the names of the people I see in my neighborhood all the time. I LOVE my neighborhood. I think I live in the best neighborhood in the Valley. Just wish I could afford to buy a house here. It’s pretty pricey.
And here in Az, if you are registered Independant or Green, you get to choose which ballot you want to vote. I like that. Since there were few choices for the Dems, I chose the Repug ballot and put as many write in’s as possible. I figured the write in’s haven’t been endorsed by the party so they, at least, have a chance of being different.

I am overcome with emotion after listening to Olberman’s CountDown. Wow. I have no words to describe how I feel after listening to that, no words. Not even an emo.
Thanks PJ!
Radio Free Sammy is streaming in 5 by 5 on my crappy “duh…I’ll up” line.
Sean liked Michael Savage! Ha ha!
That’s Michael WIENER! That’s his real name, never forget!
Man! The psychology of that name change is just too obvious! :jerk:
Hey!
He’d be more manly if he just owned the name he was given.
Allright, I’m going down………….for the night. Nite.
Goodnight, Krista.
I get here and you all leave?
🙁
:mad::bf::mad:
Travis!:pup:
You all? Only Krista is leaving, I think. If that’s you all, then, I dunno….
Hey!
I thought you had left too then I noticed you had not…
Just watched this good film.
Listen to sedition radio. Angus is on….:ear:
ok then I guess I will go away then. 😥
how do I get it?
um…just give me a second
http://pjs.sytes.net:8888
Open Itunes —> advanced —–> open URL and paste it in there.
Got it thanks..
really creepy
Why do you write that? I’m here. I’m just having a hard time thinking with the television blaring in the background:mad:
Are you listening to Brian?
No, I should though. He was my favorite caller
It’s on Seditionist radio right now!
Having the ear buds in and having to turn the volume up on the computer really high because of the background noise, probably isn’t good for my ears.
sorry..:ear:
There is so much I haven’t ever heard here…
Yeah, I’ve heard this earlier today. The loop needs to be bigger
Nice noise canceling headphones might be the thing..
I don’t want to collect too much stuff. This bird has to be light for flight, you know?
No?
You leaving?
No, what?
I’m not thinking that at the moment
What’s this “light for flight”?
No Druid today I guess? 😥
I just want to have the ability to leave at any time and not compound the problem of leaving with a bunch of stuff that I’ve collected. I mean, I like everything that I have, but I just don’t need it. I don’t think I need anything else- including something I may actually use, like those noise cancelling headphones. Or something. I dunno
Ok well..I’m feeling like I need to go now. Goodnight..
:peace:
Plus, I don’t have the green:yuck: to throw down for something electronic that will break in a few months. I hate it when that happens.
What? Why? Am I freaking you out?
it’s not you…:pup:
Right! Ok….later
Thanks for the canoe research by the way…
I hope the weather holds out…
:peace:
I’m going to stop saying and writing hey. It’s getting old
I sit in prison not because I am guilty of the alleged crime I was illegally convicted of but because we still are unable to reach the masses here in America. The reason for this is not because the American people do not care or want to help, but because we have been unable to reach them.
Personally I believe the majority of them do care and want to help. We sense this from the ones we are able to reach. We are moving forward very slowly in this freedom campaign of mine. The reason is we just do not have the financial resources to move forward at the pace we would like to be.
LEONARD PELTIER
I googled Peltier frame-up
14 December 2000
Earlier this fall, in a downtown Toronto office, a Native American woman recanted her 1976 testimony that served as the basis for extraditing American Indian Movement (AIM) activist Leonard Peltier from Canada to the United States.
Peltier had been present on June 26, 1975 near Oglala on South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Indian reservation when a fire-fight erupted between Indians and two FBI agents who died in the fighting. The FBI launched the largest manhunt in its history to capture the small group of Indians involved.
Peltier ultimately escaped to Canada, secure in the thought he was out of the vindictive reach of the FBI. It was at that point the US government produced affidavits that gave the Canadian government the excuse to extradite Peltier. A year later in a Fargo, North Dakota courtroom Peltier was subjected to a travesty of justice when he was found guilty of murder for the deaths of the two FBI agents. He was sentenced to two consecutive life terms and is serving time in Leavenworth Penitentiary in Kansas.
Some 25 years later, Myrtle Poor Bear, choked with emotion, declared, “I was forced into this, and I feel very awful. I just wish that Leonard Peltier will get out of prison.”
Poor Bear, now 48, related how FBI agents came to her shortly after the June 26, 1975 shoot-out. On more than one occasion she was taken away and sequestered in hotel rooms for days or even weeks. FBI agents subjected her to a steady barrage of threats aimed at pressuring her into signing affidavits that would implicate Peltier, whom she had never known, in the deaths of FBI agents Ray Williams and Jack Coler
good stuff. I don’t think I heard the story before
I’ve just added a bunch more bits to Sedition Radio. There are now something like 534 items – somewhere in the neigborhood of 36 hours worth, give or take.
awesome PJ, that’s a great service for sedition-starved sheeple
I miss Druid :pent:
