Another Wednesday, which means I’ll have to disappoint the dog, since I don’t have time to take him out for fun before I have to go to class (not if I’m going to be able to wave the book in front of my face, and pretend I’ve read what I’m supposed to read). Sure makes you proud to be a ‘merican, hearing dubya represent us all so well at the UN yesterday, doesn’t it? I can hardly wait until we attack Iran. I think it’s gonna turn out just great. Iran blows away Bush’s warm words at UN
Iran’s hard-line president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made an unbridled attack last night on the foreign policies of Britain and America and in particular the invasion of Iraq.
—
“The occupation of countries including Iraq has continued for the last three years,” he said. “Not a day goes by without hundreds of people being killed in cold blood. . . the occupiers are incapable of establishing security.
“Some seek to rule the world relying on weapons and threats, while others live in perpetual insecurity and danger.
“Some occupy the homeland of others thousands of miles from their homeland, interfere with their wealth and other resources. While others are bombarded daily in their own homes. Such behaviour is not worthy of human beings.”

Ahmadinejad not invited to Bush dinner at U.N.
New York, 19 Sept. (AKI) – Iran’s hardline president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has not received an invitation to a dinner for world leaders given by United States president George W. Bush to mark the 61st summit of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Ahmadinejad’s spokesman, Hossein Elham stated. Ahmadinejad, an acerbic critic of U.S. foreign policy, last week challenged Bush to a debate at the UN General Assembly and in May wrote him a letter that went unanswered.

WASHINGTON: John Bolton – US President George W. Bush’s controversial ambassador to the UN – is in increasing danger of losing his job next January after renewed opposition to his appointment in the US Senate.
Mr Bush’s nomination of Mr Bolton to the UN met such opposition on Capitol Hill last year that he was forced to install the outspoken conservative in the post by means of a recess appointment, when Congress was not in session.
That appointment in August 2005 limited Mr Bolton’s tenure to the duration of the current Congress, which concludes on January 3, 2007, unless the Senate formally confirms him before then.
The White House had hoped to get Mr Bolton confirmed this month, but Senate approval is looking increasingly unlikely.

Bolivia and Venezuela, military cooperation agreement
President Evo Morales has announced plans to build three military bases with Venezuelan assistance along Bolivia’s eastern borders with Brazil and Paraguay, where more than 2,000 elite troops will receive advanced training.
Mr. Morales says the bases are needed because the United States is “scheming” against Bolivia through neighboring countries, but domestic critics think he is more interested in having the troops available to stem unrest in a region that increasingly is demanding autonomy.
Speaking to journalists before he left for the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Cuba last week, Mr. Morales announced that the Venezuelan military would “support” the building of the bases, which the Paraguayan government has denounced as a “provocation.”
“Every country has the right to strengthen its defenses,” said Mr. Morales, who claimed he was responding to a “campaign by the government of the United States which wants to confront us.”

FBI forced to triple fraud probe squads to keep up
BY JAMES GORDON MEEK
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU
WASHINGTON – There is so much political corruption on Capitol Hill that the FBI has had to triple the number of squads investigating lobbyists, lawmakers and influence peddlers, the Daily News has learned.
For decades, only one squad in Washington handled corruption cases because the crimes were seen as local offenses handled by FBI field offices in lawmakers’ home districts.
But in recent years, the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal and other abuses of power and privilege have prompted the FBI to assign 37 agents full-time to three new squads in an office near Capitol Hill.
FBI Assistant Director Chip Burrus told The News yesterday that he wants to detail even more agents to the Washington field office for a fourth corruption squad because so much wrongdoing is being uncovered.

Welcome to the Shul
Congregation Kesser Israel is an Orthodox shul in Portland, Oregon. Since its beginning in the heart of Portland’s Jewish community, Kesser Israel has welcomed all to its traditional services, warm fellowship and joyous celebration of Judaism. Founded in 1912 by Eastern European immigrants, Kesser Israel is a close-knit Orthodox shul of approximately 75 families.
Welcome to Portland, Oregon
Portland is a beautiful city with a high standard of living and a well-tended Jewish Community, which includes such institutions as a Jewish Federation, a spacious Jewish Community Center and several secular and religious organizations. We have access to features such as two day schools, a Mikvah, and Kosher food, meat and bakeries, and more.

So, I’ve made an interesting observation. In the Sims game, the jobs that start out with the best pay are the Military career track and the security officer. They start out at $250 and $240 per day, respectively. All the other ones start you out from $90-$120/day. And the political intern job starts at $190 I think. Now I’m curious to learn more about who makes this game. 🙄
This Nicki has to be some other Nicki..Unless he was using Jerry to catch up on his sleep. 😮
I still want to visit the fountain before I visit the Shul…oh yeah, and the volcano, let’s not forget that…
Okay Fred, but maybe include some gas money, he’s way on the other side of town a good 25-30 miles away. 😉
I bet the schoolteachers make crap, just like in real life. I haven’t played Sims, though I played Sim City maybe 100 years ago 😮
I find myself listening to Sam more now in since the schedule changed for some reason, haven’t figured out why
Here I go trying to listen to 3 things at once to figure out what to listen to this morning. :smack:
If someone in the regular military makes $30 an hour that must be an officer track or they are luring unsuspecting idiots to think the enlisted guys make big bucks. Where does a security guard make $30 an hour .. I don’t think most cops make more than $ 20 ( except in a big city some place)
Located between Main and Salmon is the Shemanski Fountain, given to the city by Joseph Shemanski in 1926 to “express in small measure gratitude for what the city has done for me.” Shemanski (1869-1951) was a Polish immigrant who started out as a traveling clock salesman before he founded the Eastern Outfitting Co. and became an extremely successful businessman. Located between Salmon and Main, the triangular structure of cast Oregon sandstone was designed by Carl L. Linde, a local architect whose work included many fine homes, hotels, and apartments. An unusal aspect of the fountain are the three small lower drinking basins, placed there for dogs to quench their thirst.
The original design included a large central planter, but after the fountain was erected, Shemanski felt that a sculpture would better complete the graceful cupola. He commissioned Oliver Laurence Barrett, an art professor at the University of Oregon, to create a bronze statue of Rebecca at the Well. It is not clear why Rebecca was chosen, but as the wife of Isaac in the Old Testament known for her hospitality to strangers and kindness to animals, she was a fitting choice.
Why was Rebecca selected (over Rachel)? Does Benedict know the answer?
:pope:
I wonder if I can switch my Replay AV account to another computer.

Exactly! All the jobs start out at the lowest level. Like, you start out as a test subject in the science career track, you start out as a store clerk in the fashion career track etc.
hmm interesting, I never saw it till it was pointed out, but that game could be an effective (and very corrupt and misleading) recdruitment tool :fu:

lovable, eh? That’s an unusual descriptive term for a Western philosopher. They were pretty much a stoic rationalistic bunch. What made this one different?
Hey, I started out as a busboy/dish washer in my career track. Whatever the hell that turns out to be.
In the summer of 1656, [Spinoza] was issued the writ of cherem, or excommunication from the Jewish community because of apostasy for his claims that God is the mechanism of nature and the universe, having no personality, and that the Bible is a metaphorical and allegorical work used to teach the nature of God, both of which were based on a form of Cartesianism (see René Descartes). Following his excommunication, he adopted the first name Benedictus (the Latin equivalent of his given name, Baruch). The terms of his excommunication were quite severe; see Kasher and Biderman (19nn); it was never revoked.

also sounds like deism a bit. Those who placed doubt in revealed scripture but still believed in God must have really driven people nuts back then
n 1950, Menachem Schneerson became the leader of the Orthodox Jewish sect called the Lubavitch. Under the leadership of Rabbi Schneerson, known to his followers as the Rebbe (or rabbi), the Lubavitch grew from a small movement devastated by the Holocaust to a worldwide community of around 200,000 members.
Rebbe Menachem Schneerson wouldn’t be of much interest to most of us outside his movement, except for one fact. Beginning in the1980s, speculation was rife among many followers that the Rebbe was, indeed, the long awaited Messiah, the Moshiach, as they called him. Many Lubavitch were certain that Rebbe Schneerson would reveal himself as Moshiach. You could even see some bumper stickers around New York reading Moshiach Now! (Portland, too.)
:rabbi::sdavid::omg:
although “bible is metaphorical and allegorical” is not quite the same as doubting…more a Joseph Cambell type of way of believing…

hmm, I wonder if the Hasidics on the who are related to my uncle (not directly related to me by blood) are Lubavitchers? I’ve never talked to them. They don’t talk to women so much.

I don’t think my uncle’s relatives are those…but it would be interesting to meet some with that view
Well, that’s intersting Fred. Maybe they are trying to get people to accept being “test subjects”, make it a legit job. That’s kinda scary. Not to mention the rampant consumerism the game encourages.

Survey: M.B.A. students more likely to cheat Preparing for the world of business.
By Stacey Burling
Inquirer Staff Writer
When it comes to cheating in graduate school, a new study finds that M.B.A. students are the champs.
A survey of 5,331 students at 32 graduate schools in the United States and Canada found an “alarming” amount of cheating across disciplines, but more among the nation’s future business leaders. Fifty-six percent of graduate business students admitted they had cheated at least once in the last year, compared with 47 percent of non-business students.

I just got a marketing call on my brand spanking new unlisted landline this morning from the Dove Foundation trying to get opinions on movie ratings. I have only given my phone number to my mom on yahoo messenger. is it possible for people to extract info from IM ?
It’s possible (yahoo is sent and received in plain text), but much more likely it was just a dialling program (computer dials, if it’s not a working number, it notes it, and dials another. If it’s a “real” number, it puts it in the “good” list, and if you actually answer, it kicks your call over to a human to pester you). Ever notice there’s almost always a little delay when you answer a phone from a telemarketer?
Ah, I see. This woman, who I think may have been a recording kept pushing me to answer her questions in the way she wanted and I quickly got pissed off and hung up.

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for your interest in ABC TV Network programming.
“The Path to 9/11” was not a documentary of the events leading to 9/11.
It was a dramatization, drawn from a variety of sources including the
9/11 Commission Report, other published materials, and personal
interviews. As such, for dramatic and narrative purposes, the movie
contained fictionalized scenes, composite and representative characters
and dialogue, and time compression. The attacks of 9/11 were a pivotal
moment in our history, and it is fitting that the debate about the
events related to the attacks continue.
We hope viewers watched the entire broadcast of the finished film before
forming an opinion about it. If you are interested in providing
feedback to the Company about “The Path to 9/11,” please call
818-460-7477 or log onto ABC.com, and click on “Contact ABC” at the

SATAN FILES SUIT IN NEW YORK SUPERIOR COURT
Released September 20, 2066
Satan (AKA, Lucifer) filed a lawsuit today in New York superior court against the president of Venezuela alleging that comments made during a speech at the UN General assembly have caused him irreparable psychological damage and have caused him nightmares. The alleged comments arose as a result of the President referring to the leader of the United States as the “Devil”
The lawsuit further alleges a copyright infringement in that Satan will no longer be able to use his influence to “buy peoples souls” for riches on earth as the leader of the US has started a competitive business in the military-industrial complex….

Shultz thought that the criticism of Bush by Ahmadinejad and Chavez would be used against democrats in the election. The demofools that Shultz interviews think that these guys are nuts.. I would suggest they are the ones who are nuts but… maybe its time to :gate::omg::jason::jason::jason:
Chomsky :omg:
chomsky = :nod: :!::?::tinfoil::tongue:
Shultz having more interviews with existing demodorp congress critters and wannabe congress critters that any other lefty talker shows them to be mostly rethugs of a different flavor. If the “vast center” ( those with that average 5th grade comprehension) really think these people are saying things they want to happen ( not that they say much about what they would really do) an insurgency would not receive much popular support. The idea of engaging in a low tech interruption so that the SBR would no longer look like a safe place to invest might be the best way to go..

Chinese, US navy to hold joint military drills
Chinese navy vessels, the destroyer “Qingdao” and the refueling tanker “Hongzehu”, will conduct military search and rescue drills with the US navy at 10:30 on September 18 before the Chinese ships port in San Diego.
The Chinese naval delegation finished its four-day visit to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on September 10, where they successful completed marine communication and mobile exercises with US missile cruiser 93 (Zhongyun). They will now partake in offshore search and rescue drills.
These exercises are part of a joint anti-terrorism operation, fulfilling an agreement reached by the leaders of China and the USA as well as an arrangement reached between the Chinese and US military when Guo Boxiong, Chinese Vice-Chairman of Central Military Commission, visited the USA in July.
Chinese navy ships visit San Diego for the first time in 1997.

Countries that have experienced and have cast off the SBR’s imperialism like those in South America and a couple in Central America have all formed socialist governments who then seized and nationalized the key national resources that the US companies were exploiting .They then have formed military alliances to keep it that way. That’s why Brazil is going ahead with a nuclear program and Argentina and Chili have formed alliances as have Venezuela and Bolivia. The formation of anti SBR governments in the countries in the middle east are the next logical step in the isolation and destruction of the SBR’s economy. The Islamic hatred of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the SBR’s support of Israel will lead to our destruction unless these members of the “good ol boys club” are removed from power” :gate::omg::jason::jason::jason::fist::fist::fist:

PBS set to reveal ‘stealth campaign’ to cut healthcare, education
RAW STORY
Published: Wednesday September 20, 2006
PBS newsmagazine NOW this week plans to target what producers are calling, “a stealth campaign for deep cuts in social services,” RAW STORY has learned.
The program is to examine ballot initiatives across the nation that it will characterize as deceptively-titled attempts to slash funding in health care and education. “Initiatives with titles like ‘Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights’ and ‘SOS – Stop Over Spending'” will be the focus of the segment.
The program is also set to assert that one wealthy New Yorker is secretly helping to orchestrate the push by providing major funding for the nationwide initiatives. Questionable legal and campaign tactics will also be highlighted.

WASHINGTON – The House voted Wednesday to require Americans to show proof of citizenship in order to vote, and the Senate moved to build a 700-mile fence along the Mexican border as Republicans sharpened attacks on illegal immigration before the midterm elections.
The 228-196 House vote on a new photo ID plan and the Senate’s consideration of the fence were both part of a get-tough policy on illegal immigrants that Republicans have embraced after Congress’ failure to agree on broader legislation that would set a path for undocumented workers to attain citizenship.

That UN “translator lady” is very sarcastic. What is our Rachel getting at?
I see that PJ had an exciting day in class.:yawn: too.
Oh, Rachel had to demonstrate how fair-minded she is. Bush is bad…Chavez is equally bad. See how silly he is? He called Bush the Devil. He recommends a book by Chomsky.
I think Chavez was being a bit sarcastic too.. It plays well to people in under developed countries .. our Hispanics thought it was hilarious and very much to the point:eek:
Read the text of what he said in post 175. That was what he said..
Chavez is providing the American people a glimpse of what the rest of the world knows.
What would happen if Chavez tried to get the US military to stage a coup? Rachel should be discussing that sort of thing, not trip on the humor in Chavez’s address.
My point is, why doesn’t Maddow discuss the sorts of things that are in #117. No, it is all a big game. All sides share the blame, and I am clever enough to point this out. Rachel is good on Iraq, though. (Maybe she is good on imperialism in general. I just wish she had went into the content of what Chavez said. Perhaps she will.)
One side right
One side wrong
The right side is
the Viet Cong
Well Maddow is trying to be a Stephie light in a time when some things are not very funny. The rest of the world is about to strangle the SBR.. No one will be aware until you getup some morning and their is no power and no gasoline.:eek:
They say they want to impose a democratic model. But that’s their democratic model. It’s the false democracy of elites, and, I would say, a very original democracy that’s imposed by weapons and bombs and firing weapons.
What a strange democracy. Aristotle might not recognize it or others who are at the root of democracy.
What type of democracy do you impose with marines and bombs?
Hugo Chavez
Truth to fucking power! :fist:
Everybody should read Chavez’s addresss to the UN.
http://www.counterpunch.org
The “strangle SBR” image I get is that of the Lilliputians bounding Gulliver, not one of, say, Godzilla smashing T Rex. The US is too powerful militarily to defeat them at one fell swoop. No, my image is one of small, progressive weakening, while SBR citizens in the belly of the beast are creating a progressive, new order. Humane order.
Well if we attack Iran we will get about 30% of our oil imports cut off. The countries in South America may interfere with oil shipments from the middle east .. One or two super tankers on fire in the south Atlantic will cut off all oil imports. We only have about two weeks of oil at current consumption levels in the strategic oil reserves. It could get tense really fast.:paranoid:
Here is a good article on the recent controversy around the Pope’s statements on Islam.
http://www.counterpunch.org/carmichael09202006.html
“Regarding the issue of the pope’s comments, we respect the pope and all of those who are interested in peace and justice,” Ahmadinejad told reporters.
re#211 Pretty big blows. Economically, the US is not that strong; politically, the US is weak; militarily we reign supreme. The goal of the SBR subjects is to weaken the third category, while doing what we can to strengthen the other two.
Military planners in Russia and China as well as other places that can finance such things have to be studying the workings of the US militarys offensive systems and devising counter measures. When we start losing warships especially big expensive war ships and don;t know how to defend against what ever it was that made us lose them we will either nuke someone and get an equal and opposite reaction or we will retreat with out tail between our legs.:eek:
When you read things by the thugs you have to translate the words democracy and democratic systems .. What they mean has nothing to do with democracy in the classic sense. To them democracy means the freedom to conduct business in any way they can to make as much money as they can. In other words unbridled capitalism.. if people would view what the thugs say with that perspective most of what they say is not a lie and will makes perfect sense and should make any informed person :barf:

But Bender is a centrist fool too so this all makes perfect sense.:gate::omg:
is this Bender’s normal slot in the schedule? I thought he was on later
it’s boring. At least right now it is. I shut it off and I’m playing music.

I was listening to that commie Marc Marons show on KTLK the other day out in Los Angeles. Now thank god his show is being cancelled he said it wouldn’t be a bad thing if someone blew up the white house! I cant stand these liberals they don’t understand the seriousness of threats against the president. I was at a concert the other day and there was a pro eco-terrorist group there handing out pamphlets to the mostly young audience! I am talking about the Earth Liberation Front if you are curious. There was also this other evil group there with a table selling t-shirts and pins called World Cant Wait. hopefully the kids are smarter than to be drawn into eco-terrorism but this second group is planning what they call an action on Oct. 5th of this year I fear they may become violent! They refer to my beloved presidents administration as a regime! Ok well Jeffy needs to go feed on the blood of liberals and Iraqis now so you good readers of Jeffy’s blog go call the F.B.I. on this evil group and stop them from taking action!

Cripes Sean, what’s in your craw tonight? 😆
Hey Blue, is that your cat Scout in the pic above? I once had a gray cat with similar markings named Scout. He ate a lot of birds :omg:
:cool:300 miles to go later sheeple! whats a craw?
My friend Tony just lost his cat, Kibilch. She was 21 years old. That cat had been around for my whole out of highschool life, that’s weird to think about.
Ahhhh! 300 miles of introspection. But I don’t like driving at night as much, unless there is a full moon.
Once, I went to Gay Pride in SF with my good friend Bob, who used to live there. He showed me all the places he lived and all the ally ways where he hustled and all the places where he bought junk. :rofl2: I called it Bob’s Seedy Tours of San Fran. I just found the pics from that trip when I was looking for Sweet Jane pictures.
I sure do love to talk to myself.
Hold on everyone, I’ll brb. Don’t get rowdy without me!

I sized everything at 1000 wide
Sometimes downloading the current driver is easier than finding the disk!
How do you do that? I can’t find the disc.

I missed it.
missed what?
Hi two others who are still here; anyone figure out how to cut and paste the moving emoticons into private emails, or is it not possible? They stay fixed, static, when I paste them into my emails.
Did anyone catch Marc at The Punchline this weekend?
No we are going to see him in Seattle though.
I have had a little luck moving the emoticons onto my desktop and then pasting them. The movement seems hit or miss.
Or we could drive to Canada tomorrow- Oh I hope they let him back in!:tinfoil:
I missed talk like a pirate day…I never talked like a pirate once.
By myself again 🙁
Hey, is it just me, or has anyone else wondered if Jon Stewart stole his ‘future Jon’ segments from the future Marc segments from MS:?:
so are you watching TV, is that it?
sblue, I have no trouble getting the emoticons into my email, it’s just that the moving ones don’t move once I get them in there. Maybe it’s the email program, I don’t know. It would be fun to surprise my friends with the moving ones.
goodnight…
Not right now, no. I’ve seen at least two ‘future Jon’ segments on Daily Show, though.
The knitting one moved once and then didn’t move later when I used it. I was using apple mail.
But goodnight for now…
‘kay, g’night, sblue. My dialup makes this very slow. I should turn in soon too…

I wonder who’s pocket she is in .. :yuck::crap::barf:
The Monroe Doctrine of December 2, 1823, and the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine of December 6, 1904, are the bedrocks of expansionism and intervention which has caused so much misery, death and impoverishment for millions across Latin America. The country of Venezuela has played no small part in this history.
In the early decades of the 19th century, the South American Wars of Liberation were raging against Spanish domination in Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. One figure who rose to international prominence during these struggles was Simon Bolivar. His vision of freedom from foreign domination, as well as the necessity of economic and social integration of the region has become the inspiration for Venezuela’s Bolivarian revolution
But he was not just a man of words. At the Battle of Carabobo on June 24, 1821, his brilliant military maneuvers sealed the fate of the Spanish forces in Venezuela, and shortly thereafter, assured the demise of their empire in the region.
The Monroe Doctrine was created to project the United States’ sphere of influence into the Americas and fill the void left by Spain. It was also due to the upstart nation’s fear of Latin American colonization by other more powerful European imperialists. In short, they saw Latin America as their own “backyard” and field for exploitation. Even before setting out to impose their will on the peoples of Latin America, one of the first applications of the spirit of the doctrine was the “internal imperialism” against the indigenous peoples of North America, oppressing and obliterating entire civilizations in the country’s move westward. Hundreds of thousands of square miles belonging to Mexico were “acquired” as well.
A succession of presidents invoked the Monroe Doctrine in the annexations of Texas, California, Oregon and to fend off European interest in the Yucatan and Mexico, and it was used as the justification for the building a canal in Central America to control shipping and commerce. President Cleveland used it to force a settlement in land dispute between Venezuela and Britain in 1895.
Corte Green
In 1902, Venezuela could no longer placate the demands of European bankers and pay back its debt, so the navies of Great Britain, Italy and Germany blockaded and fired on its coastal fortifications. Theodore Roosevelt became fixated on the prospects of re-colonization of the hemisphere, and in 1903, he matched threat with threat, warning the combatants that Admiral Dewey’s fleet would intervene. The navies withdrew, and negotiations returned to the field of diplomacy.
Roosevelt’s Corollary, in an address to Congress, became an amendment to the Monroe Doctrine which launched the era of the U.S. as an international police force through the use of its infamous “big stick.” This opened the bloody history of U.S. involvement on a grand scale, which haunts the peoples of the region and the world to this day.
Though it has gone through many ideological contortions including “dollar diplomacy”, the “good neighbor” policy, the “Reagan Doctrine” and most recently, the “Bush Doctrine”, the content has remained the same. Some of the mechanisms of control include the School of the Americas, the Organization of American States, the Inter-American Defense Board, Plan Colombia, the IMF and World Bank, NAFTA, CAFTA, and now the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas. It is clear from the above how the Monroe Doctrine has been used to dominate the cultures, political life, and economics of the Latin America, all the while integrating the labor, natural resources, productive and financial structures into a system of capital accumulation for the benefit of U.S. hegemony.
