Hey, it’s Tuesday, and I’m actually not behind in anything. Well, not much anyway. And to think, it only took about 12 hours a day with my ass in the chair in front of the computer to get my shit together. Oh, well, not much point in getting ahead in anything. I guess I’ll just screw off until I’m way behind again. Should take about a day.
One week ’til Halloween. I remember when I used to give a shit about that. Now, it’s just another reason to hide in the basement with all the lights off (like I needed an excuse for that).
AND
only two more weeks of increasing American Taliban Judeo-Christo terrorism. I hope….

Updated Firefox 2.0 was due to be released on Tuesday but the final version of the source browser was available from Mozilla FTP site early on Monday. Demand was such that the http://ftp.mozilla.org site appears to have buckled under the strain. However the software remains available from mirror sites such as one run by Oregon State University here.
Availability of the next edition of the open source browser follows the (also) delayed release of Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft’s market leading proprietary alternative, last week.

Hi Roxie. New meds may be a possibility. The debate was a snoozefest for the most part.
The only thing that got me going at all was during a discussion of drilling for oil in the Gulf, which both Nelson and Harris oppose. However, Harris advocates drilling in ANWAR, which to me is like allowing your dog to shit in your neighbor’s yard but not in yours. She can’t have it both ways.
If she is serious about drilling in ANWAR, Harris should have to mud-wrestle Maria Cantwell first. My coaching advice to Maria would be to FIGHT DIRTY.

The gubernatorial debate is tonight from 8-9 PM Eastern. As of yesterday, Jim Davis has closed the gap on Charlie Crist to 46-44 with a margin of error of 3 points, so it’s a dead heat. Should be more interesting than last night’s festivities. I’ll try to remember to re-post the link later today, but it’s on Monday’s thread in case I forget.

Chicago Voter Database Hacked
Civic Group Claims It Could Have Tampered With Voter Roles
By JAKE TAPPER and REBECCA ABRAHAMS
Oct. 23, 2006 — – As if there weren’t enough concerns about the integrity of the vote, a non-partisan civic organization today claimed it had hacked into the voter database for the 1.35 million voters in the city of Chicago.
Bob Wilson, an official with the Illinois Ballot Integrity Project — which bills itself as a not-for-profit civic organization dedicated to the correction of election system deficiencies — tells ABC News that last week his organization hacked the database, which contains detailed information about hundreds of thousands of Chicago voters, including their Social Security numbers, and dates of birth.
“It was a serious identity theft problem, but also a problem that could potentially create problems with the election,” Wilson said.
A nefarious hacker could have changed every voter’s status from active to inactive, which would have prevented them from voting, he said.
“Or we could’ve changed the information on what precinct you were in or what polling place you were supposed to go to,” he said. “So there were ways that we could potentially change the entire online data base and disenfranchise voters throughout the entire city of Chicago.”
“If we’d wanted to, we could’ve wiped the entire database out,” Wilson claimed.

Economic Report: Job Creation Weak, Real Income Down $3000
Economic Report
By Doug Cunningham
As working families consider whether the economy has been good or bad to them two weeks before the elections they’re not feeling as rosy about the economy as Wall Street or Bush administration. According to the Economic Policy Institute, working family real income has dropped by $3,000 since 2000. And while jobs are paying less in inflation-adjusted wages job creation for September was the weakest since Hurricane Katrina. As EPI puts it, the pie being baked by U.S. workers grows bigger each year while the slices they get grow smaller.

Opponent denies calling Clinton ugly
By MARC HUMBERT, Associated Press Writer 23 minutes ago
ALBANY, N.Y. – Sen.
Hillary Clinton’s Republican challenger on Monday flatly denied telling a reporter that Clinton was unattractive when she was younger and suggesting she had had “millions of dollars” of “work.”
John Spencer, a former Yonkers mayor, acknowledged talking to the reporter during a flight on Friday but said he didn’t make the statements attributed to him in Monday’s New York Daily News.
“It’s a fabrication. I would never call Hillary Clinton ugly,” Spencer told The Associated Press. “That’s outrageous. I didn’t do it.”
The reporter, Ben Smith, told the AP that Spencer made the comments as Spencer, his wife and Smith sat together. He said he didn’t tape-record the comments but did take notes.
“You ever see a picture of her back then? Whew. I don’t know why Bill married her,” The Daily News quoted Spencer as saying about Clinton

Senator laughs at foe’s surgery claim

Sen. Hillary Clinton yesterday shot back at rival John Spencer’s plastic surgery claim, saying yearbook photo was ‘cute.’
Sen. Hillary Clinton doesn’t really want to reduce her reelection campaign to a debate on her looks.
But if you must know, the former First Lady thinks she was a cutie in high school.
The odd discussion about her appearance came after her long-shot opponent, Republican John Spencer, suggested to the Daily News that Clinton had undergone “millions of dollars” in plastic surgery, and pointed out she used to be much less attractive.
“You ever see a picture of her back then? Whew,” he told Daily News columnist Ben Smith during a plane ride to Rochester last Friday. “I don’t know why Bill married her.”

Daschle: Democrats will pick up seven U.S. Senate seats
MARY CLARE JALONICK
Associated Press
WASHINGTON – Former South Dakota Sen. Tom Daschle predicted on Monday that Democrats will pick up seven U.S. Senate seats this year and said his party needs to “restore the confidence that has been lost about Congress.”
Daschle, who was Senate Democratic Leader when he lost to Republican John Thune in 2004, also predicted his party would pick up around 25 seats in the U.S. House.
“It looks awfully good,” Daschle said on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal.

dark leafy are best (spinach, kale, collards, dark lettuce), but ANY vege is important for your youte!
(I’m trying to get this reporter I know to dig out some old plants so I can build a cold frame for winter lettuces. You’d think he’d jump at the opportunities I give him.)
Yeah, kale creeps me out. I don’t like plants with veins. Not that crazy about dark lettuce, either. It’s all I’m allowed, because the kind I like isn’t nutritious enough. So, I don’t eat either kind.
I never talk on my cell phone, either. Not that it really matter much. It’s like saving your ammunition, when the war’s been over for years (but you can only do so much target practice).

A judge ruled yesterday that Reform Party candidate Max Linn would be allowed to join Crist and Davis, which should make it somewhat more interesting.
As of Monday, Crist was ahead 46-44 with a 3% margin of error, a bit of a pleasant surprise since he had been ahead by a much larger margin a few weeks ago. One would think that if Linn has any impact on the race, it would pull from Crist’s conservative base and help Davis. (Not that Crist is much of a conservative, if you ask the Repig hard-liners.)
Good luck, gentlemen, and may the Democratic candidate win.
i plant kale as an ornamental plant. head lettuce is better than no lettuce, I’d wager.
kev, heard today that FL has a lot of potential for tipping the democratic take-over this election…what tricks does jebby-poo have up his sleeve to steal it this year?
The big problem I see right now is that a lot of these races are within or close to the margin of error of the polls. And we all know who miraculously tends to win every single close election. I certainly hope everybody is planning on getting out the and voting. I’m trying to brace myself for the pickup of just a few House seats, and only a couple in the Senate, with Lieberman officially jumping across the aisle.
Speaking of close races, the local paper, and one (Clearchannel) TV station are supposed to announce the results of a new Zogby poll in my district at 5:00. I hope it’s good news.
This is interesting. The IAVA (Iraq & Afghanistan Veterans of America) gave US Senators a letter grade as to how well they support US troops, Vets, and their families, based on over 300 votes.
Every single Democrat got a higher grade than any Republican. The worst Democrat was Ben Nelson with a B-. Three Republicans got C’s. The rest are even worse.

The next two weeks should be interesting. No one, including me, expected the gov’s race to be this close. Charlie Crist has saturated the airwaves since May, and he was presumably Teflon enough to prevent much of the national Repig mess from sticking to his smartly tailored suits. But it’s not playing out that way.
If Jim Davis does well in the debate tonight (I’m not sure whether or not there’s another one next week) and can get some good press out of it, the Dems have a shot at getting the gov’s mansion back.
Not only is Katherine Harris not going to the Senate, the Repigs may not be able to keep her seat. Chimpy is in Sarasota today pounding the drum for Vern Buchanan, millionaire fascist auto-dealer who was expected to walk away with the seat. Instead, Christine Jennings is leading by about 5%, which is pretty wild when you consider that the Sarasota area is generally wealthier, older and more blue-blood conservative than the rest of the state.
I don’t see Jeb getting back into politics right away. He’ll most likely lay low and work on some of the business deals he’s trying to generate during his last year in office. He’s claiming poverty, although given his status as a member of the Bush crime family, poverty is relative. (So to speak.)
He would still be young enough to run in 2012, assuming McCain or some other asshat runs and loses two years from now. Unless, of course, something happens in the meantime to soil the family name so badly that he would have no chance of winning.
Like an impeachment.
Or an international war-crimes trial.
Ah, one can dream. 🙂

Blair calls for everyone to record DNA on databases
JAMES KIRKUP POLITICAL EDITOR (jkirkup@scotsman.com )
MILLIONS of people should have their genetic details recorded on government DNA databases, regardless of whether they have ever been convicted of a crime, Tony Blair said yesterday.
The Prime Minister’s demand for the “maximum number” of samples to be recorded will increase pressure on Scotland to follow England’s lead and allow routine retention of DNA from innocent people.
Click to learn more…
It prompted civil liberties groups to warn that Labour was intent on creating a potentially dangerous “database state”.
Police in England are permitted to retain DNA details of everyone arrested, whether or not they are convicted of a crime. That has allowed them to build a database of 3.6 million samples, including those of more than 150,000 people who have no criminal record. In Scotland, DNA samples of innocent people must be destroyed, but Labour is keen to bring Scots law into line with that in England.

CNN, NPR refuse ads for Bush assassination movie
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Two major U.S. news outlets, CNN and National Public Radio, will not air advertisements for a controversial movie depicting the assassination of President George W. Bush, citing the film’s content, network spokeswomen said on Tuesday.
The movie, “Death of a President,” caused a stir at the Toronto Film Festival in September where it debuted, and two major U.S. theater chains have declined to screen the movie when it debuts in the United States on Friday.

Oliver North back in Nicaragua as old foe leads
Oct 23, 2006 — MANAGUA, Nicaragua (Reuters) – U.S. Cold War warrior Oliver North, famous for his role in funding Nicaraguan rebels in the Iran-Contra affair, is back in the fray in the Central American nation’s tense presidential election.
North, a former lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Marines, was in the Nicaraguan capital on Monday to give his backing to the ruling Liberal Party’s conservative candidate, Jose Rizo.
North said he was worried by opinion polls that show his former enemy Daniel Ortega, who led the left-wing Sandinista government during the 1980s civil war against Contra rebels, could bounce back to power in the November 5 election.
U.S. Ambassador Paul Trivelli, who favors Rizo’s conservative rival Eduardo Montealegre, said North was a private citizen and not speaking for Washington.

sounds great Nick!Im just playing with the horrible files I made in Boston…Im still waiting for my mic. Do you like the ear ones?…how do they work as far as interviewing other people?…do you use another mic then for that?
I haven’t used the in-ear mics to do interviews. I use a handheld mic for that. So what kind of microphone did you purchase? Can’t wait to hear what you’ve recorded. Did you record Marc?
Hey Melina. How’s Yahoo Messenger sound? I’m patrickjdreamscapecom.
I have a rough recording of the show…not worth much except to die hards….I forgot my little mic so had to use the internal one…and the first nite when we were up front I made a mistake so I missed that one…and then by the time I went back again I was sitting in the back so there is alot of crowd noise…but its a funny show.

If that Archos on Woot yesterday were smaller Id buy it!…but Im gonna look around again for a good recorder. These irivers seem fine, but they are discontinuing this one so I probably would have to get it on ebay if I loved this one. I want one with a huge hard drive.
Nick I can also transfer it to you if youre on a messenger…but dont broadcast it or use it for anything other than your own enjoyment!
actually…I can transfer files on skype…right?
Yes, you can transfer on skype. I can turn it on or wait until you post on your blog.
Just listening to the edits from yesterdays skype conversation. Trying to get a little done tonight so I’m not so pressed tomorrow afternoon when I get back into town. So I’m online on skype Melina.
