Not sure how things turned out last night (may not even be done yet). I decided to go to bed as soon as the good guy lost by less than 4,000 votes in my district, but wound up staying up for quite a while, thanks to the combination of my laptop, wireless, and beer. By the time I finally gave it up and crashed, the House had been called for the Democrats (final margin up in the air, but at least a +25 pickup), and the Dems had picked up 4 Senate seats, and control of the Senate looking likely, with Webb up in VA by 1% (there’ll be a recount in that one, either way), and Tester leading by 4% in MT.
It’s good to have the House, but I can’t tell you how bad I feel about my Congressional District. It’s not about the pickup of a seat, but that we lost the chance to have an intelligent, thoughtful, and genuinely good person represent us in Congress. I hope Dan Maffei is back again in 2008.
Elsewhere here in NY, Hillary kicked ass with about 67% of the vote, Howie got about 1% (I forget, is that a moral victory?), Eliot Spitzer did even better than Hillary, with 69%, Andy Cuomo beat crazy Jeanine Pirro easily, and Alan Hevesi won handily, despite his chauffeur problems (now we’ll see if he’s forced to resign).
Anyhow, how did everything go in your neck of the woods?
:crap::yippee::crap::yippee::crap::yippee:

So the Colorado reich won the state house from the Colo Reich
Muskrat, Tancredo and the thugbot to replace Hefley all won.
Given that the homophobes all won reelection it wasn’t surprising that the Colorado constitution now defines marriage as the union of a man and a women and that Gays were denied equal protection.:yuck:
good morning sheeple…. sorry about Colorado, Fred, and your congressional district, PJ… (also sorry about CT, blah)
What’s the matter with Colorado?
Almost all of my most-hated plug uglies lost last night [Weldon, Perro, Kat Harris] but it seems that Musgrave will be around to foul the bathub of state for two more years.
Went to bed content with a 50-50 senate, and now I WANT IT ALL.
People are so selfish.:sammy:

Colorado has rethug ghettos ..Mostly retired military in Colo Springs and the opulent California transplants in there 8000 sq foot houses in the area in between Denver and Colorado Springs. Muskrat represents almost all of eastern Colorado the land of dried up farmland and rugged individualists living in their house trailers and double wides, on their five acre tracts, driving their Ford F350 diesel super duties that have junk cars strewn around their yards , pit bulls roaming their yards and burn their garbage in open pits.
They were going to take up arms when several counties mentioned the word zoning to them..:barf::crap::yuck::reaper::reaper:
They wait there knowing that any minute some developer will offer then a quarter of a mil for their 5 acres and they can retire in Arizona :bf:

Very happy for the country. But ‘Ole Georgia is in the hands of self-dealing thugs who not only hate children, but enacted the sub-below minimum wage law (yes, you read that right). My guy and wastemoran’s percentages never wavered all night – the amendments won by a landslide and things smell very bad with Diebold in our precincts.
Thank you, America, for diluting this state’s idiots and band of thieves.

Bunny Pants is supposed to have a news conference at 1:00 eastern :yuck::paranoid:
Pleased with what happened in NC. Coulda been better but Charles Taylor (NC-11, R) was sent packing and Robin Hayes (NC-8, R) is headed for a recount with a differential of less than 500 votes. Regardless, North Carolina will now have more Democrats than rethugs in the House of Reprehensives. Now if we can take the senate seats in Virginia – my new home in seven days – and Montana.
GA did have two good things happen: the bush-puppet GA supreme court candidate who had never tried a case but was their ideologue, lost. Tommy Irvin, dem agriculture commissioner barely won. Irvin has done a good job for many years and a thug ideologue tried to unseat him.
Money matters here, for sure. my guy spent 70,000 wastemoron spent just shy of a million. same with governor race – huge dollars were spent by the thugs.
that is good news, NC. How are the moving plans coming together?
“MADAM SPEAKER”

It’s about damn time! NOW IF WE IMPEACH THE PRES & VP, WE’LL HAVE OUR FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT!!!
Moving – the living room looks like a Kroger stock room. We don’t pack the truck until Tuesday. Found an apartment in a nice neighborhood of Alexandria. Only two Metro stops from the office.

Did Anne find a new teaching job there?
Anne has to go through the background check and accreditation process in Virginia before she can even apply. Besides, she plans on taking off through at least Thanksgiving just to unwind.
Well, Madam Speaker isn’t a done deal just yet. So, with some big “ifs” out there…. If MT and VA go to the Democrats, that makes it 49-49-2. Sanders is with the Democrats, so that’s 50-49-1. That’s where Lieberman really scares me, though hopefully he understands that, even officially going to the dark side is only likely to get him two years with the “new” majority, and hopefully there’ll be a Democratic VP to break the tie in 2009 (of course, another third of the Senate and the House will be up for grabs at the same time).
:doh:sub-minimum wage? doesnt federal minimum wage supercede states? guess the ga rethugs figure that the feds wont enforce scumbags!
PJ, my Senate count has it 48-48-2 with 2 undecided. With the leanings of the two independents that makes in essentially 49-49. Dems lead in the two undecides before the recounts. I am afraid we won’t know the outcome today. Unless Allen and Burns fall on their swords.
:cat:madam speaker is a done deal unless i missed the part where the majority party in the house doesnt get to have the speaker of the house regardless of what the senate situation is

:fustrate:i suppose i will just have to go check my handy “pocket constitution” you know the one thats all old and out of date like the fisa act
I see it at 47-49-2, with VA and MT still undecided (total of 100).
:nana:i see what PJ sees
The fun part of all of this will be Henry Waxman and his unwavering quest for the truth about what this administration has done to our laws. Regardless of what Nacy Pelosi says there are many who want that impeachment. It would be symbolic only since there are not enough votes for success. So, why waste the time and money. Let’s just start fixing everything the rethugs broke beginning January 20, 1981. We haven’t even gotten into that let alone all the secret things Cowboy George and the Ain’t Hill Mob have done.
CNN lists it as 49-49 with 2 undecided.
Well, I want John Conyers out there investigating things. At worst, he should be able to get the truth out there – in spite of the GOP media minions – and further demoralize these criminals. At best, enough shit will come out that Bush/Cheney will be impeached (only takes a simple majority in the House), and the Senate will be forced to convict (or they’ll resign the way Nixon did when it was obvious he was going down). I also want to see these signing statements declared unconstitutional (since they are), and therefore null and void. The way Bush has been using them amount to a line-item veto, and that’s not allowed.
I don’t see another resignation. Remember who we are dealing with. He hasn’t been in touch with reality most of his adult life.
Yeah, but CNN is counting Lieberman and Sanders in the 49. Flip Lieberman, and it’s 48-50 with two undecided. Both the undecideds go to the dems, it’s 50-50 (again, w/ Lieberman flipping, which hopefully he won’t, but…).
There are not enough votes to even pass legislation unless a thugbot senator or two decides to separate from the hive and vote with the dems. Then the dems will have to employ the “ripe” egg salad tactic to get the bills passed over Bunny pants veto.:bf:
If the congress starts using a lot of floor time for investigations the Reich’s media will go ape shit and all you will hear is obstructionists… obstructionists… obstructionists.. 24/7:bf:
Otherwise Conyers hearings will be on C-span at 3 am.:yuck:
o well im out of here finally figured out where i am REALLY supposed to be!
A lot of legislation that would have passed (that had a lot of popular support) never got to the floor of the House for a vote, because the Republicans killed it. They also refused to allow a lot of amendments to come to the floor for a vote, that would have passed, and they took a lot of shit out in the conference committee that did pass, ‘cuz they controlled that, too. So, at the very least, they can force Republicans to vote against some popular shit, which won’t look so good come 2008, or they can force Bush to veto popular shit, and then force the Republicans to vote against an override (from an incredibly unpopular preznit), and at best get some good things passed.

im sure they are already saying “obstructionists” shit they have been saying it anyway not that we could ever get enough of a consensus in th senate to obstruct anything
I’m listening Colbert! :rofl2: :rofl2:
Well, the key is to just fucking ignore the media and the thugs, in the same way that the thugs ignore anything they don’t want to hear. The other thing is for all of us to keep them from forgetting that the people really have given them a mandate for change. That first hundred days stuff will be interesting to see how it works out.
The big losers will be big business and the ultra rich. They don’t need any more money. It is time they gave some of it back, like the looted pension plans that went for top management severance packages. Barry Diller made almost half a billion last fiscal year while the median wage actually fell. And the oil companies have a little bit of explaining to do, as do the pharmaceutical companies.
I hope to god that these dems move to investigate for impeachment right away….

Any news on the senate, yet โ
The Senate is also where judges are confirmed (or not) – and not just SCOTUS, which gets all the attention, but the lower federal courts, which decide the vast majority of the laws. Committee control is huge, and a simple majority takes the “nuclear option” off the table.
They would also have to confirm Cheney’s replacement, when he has to resign like Agnew, after the war profiteering hearings begin in the House.
Hey, KK. We might hear about Montana today, but Virginia is headed for a recount (this is where the Rove election-stealing machine really starts to shine).

Of course, no matter who Lieberman caucuses with, he’ll be a backstabber (well, unless it’s with the Republicans; to them he’d be loyal, I’m sure). I wonder if anything will come of his $387,000 in unaccounted for “petty cash” dispersals?

By BOB LEWIS
AP Political Writer
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Sen. George Allen’s political career hung by a thread on Tuesday, as Democrat Jim Webb claimed victory – though fewer than 8,000 votes separated the two, and a recount was virtually certain.
“The votes are in and we won,” Webb said, though there were still votes to count. With 99 percent of precincts reporting, Webb had 1,170,564 votes, or 49.6 percent, to Allen’s 1,162,717, or 49.3 percent.
A final count, including all absentee ballots, was expected later Wednesday.
There are no automatic recounts in Virginia, but state law allows a candidate who finishes a half-percentage point or less behind to request a recount paid for by state and local governments.
With a margin greater than that but less than 1 percentage point, the trailing candidate can still seek a recount but has to pay the costs if the results are unchanged. Either way, a recount could not begin until after the State Board of Elections certifies the results Nov. 27; the losing candidate has 10 after that to request a recount.
Both parties have teams that plan to monitor and intervene in the event of a recount, anticipating the process could stretch into next month.

Hamas’ military wing called Wednesday on Muslims around the world to attack American targets following reports that an Israeli tank strike killed 18 people in the Gaza Strip.
“America is offering political, financial and logistic cover for the Zionist occupation crimes, and it is responsible for the Beit Hanoun massacre.
Therefore, the people and the nation all over the globe are required to teach the American enemy tough lessons,” Hamas said in a statement sent to The Associated Press.

I stayed up until 4:00 am or so Central time… I had told myself that I wanted to stay up to see MONTANA’s race. I wanted to see TESTER WIN.
45 minutes after Montana polls closed, I called my Dad to see what news there was because I hadn’t seen ANYTHING on CNN/MSNBC/FOX. He wouldn’t tell me anything because there weren’t any “numbers that made much of an impact” on him. Meaning the %s of votes in being so low that he didn’t want to say anything… which is crap.
So I saw that early returns had Tester ahead 54/46 or so.
4:00 FRAKKIN’ AM. And it was MONTANA AND VIRGINIA!!!!
An hour or so before CNN projected it and when Tester talked to CNN, I realized that even if there WAS a situation where Montana might have a recount…. Burns (aka the Republican party) would have to call for it and PAY FOR IT. Thinking that if they were going to put their money ANYWHERE for a recount, it would be Virginia. If Montana went to Tester and Virginia turned for Allen, then Cheney would still tip the scales into the Red area. There was NO WAY (or nearly no way) that they would choose to put money and energy into Montana when Allen has had SUCH A HIGHER PROFILE.
That’s when I realized…. I HAVE TWO DEMOCRATIC SENATORS!!!! FROM MONTANA!!! TWO DEMOCRATS!!! FROM MONTANA!!!!

I didn’ t get a chance to post this yesterday:
NEW YORK, Nov. 7 — The city wants to make it easier for transgender New Yorkers to switch the sex listed on birth certificates even without undergoing sex-change surgery, putting the city at the forefront of efforts to redefine sexual identity.
Under current city rules, only people who can show proof of surgery qualify for getting a revised birth certificate. Even then, the only change made is the elimination of any reference to sex on the document. The new plan, unveiled in September, would let birth records reflect the new sex. It would also allow changes for people who have not had surgery but can prove they have taken other steps toward changing sex, such as undergoing hormone therapy.
The policy change is one that advocates for New York’s sizable transgender community have requested for years. It has taken on greater significance since Sept. 11, 2001.

And so was my ex-husband. Who has nine more years to go on his fifteen year sentence (federal) for being a lot like Mark Foley.
Okay, so who did AAR fire that was critical of Ed Schultz? I am listening to Ed because it’s my only option right now. But he’s starting to wear thin for me. And for Big Eddie to wear thin is pretty bad.
Shultz just opened up on Mike Malloy for criticizing his centrist positions
Please contact you local affiliate and object.
Shultz has better guests than Randi does and he doesn’t screech or rant as much but it’s centrists like him that cause people like Tancredo and Muskrat to get reelected to office too. He has the same positions on Immigrants as Tancredo and thinks our projection of military power is really a deterrent to terror. He also loves to think that the SBR is the greatest place on earth even though we are about 30th in most categories at the moment.:yuck::bf:
but ed shultz
speaks to lots of people – he’s a populist hero to them. I think it’s more likely that big eddy contributed a great deal to many of the red state pickups esp in the west.
most populists have been less progressive on social issues than shultz.
we need these guys, bad!
Yeah I know Ed speaks to a lot of people in Colorado .. Judging from the outcome of this election Colorado is also full of a lot of morons.:bf:
So get this. It’s the third and final day of my mini-vacation, and I’m at work on my own time because Moe, Larry and Curly have the business center torn up and covered with plastic dropcloths, and this is the only place I can blog. But it’s worth it…
1) We got the House back!
2) Looks like we very well may get the Senate back!
3) Rumsfeld is TOAST!!!
:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:
What else? Ted Strickland beat Ken Blackwell big time. My dad will be thrilled.
Maria Cantwell won again, and this time it wasn’t by a thousand votes. Maria, let me know when and how you would like to thank me for my contributions to your campaign, and I’m there. :hubba:
I noticed that there were a lot of mentions on the election thread of candidates “going down.” Most notably in reference to Katherine Harris. Freud would have a field day with some of you guys. (Yeah, I know I just leered at Maria Cantwell. SFW.)
But we won’t have Cruella to kick around anymore. I guess God was wrong when he told her he wanted her to be in the Senate.
:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:
This victory thing is fun! We should do it more often.
John Conyers, get those papers ready!
:fire::fire::fire:
Hey Kev. Does USF suck that bad this year that theyโre only favored by 8 points at home against the #112-rated offense (out of 119) in Division I-A?
Comment by pjsauter โ November 7, 2006 @ 10:49 am
They’re not that bad, just inconsistent. Plus their freshman QB Matt Grophe hurt his foot again last weekend. He should play but won’t be 100%. The line is up to 9 points as of today.
Speaking of lackluster college teams, Akron plays Buffalo tomorrow night. The Zips are favored by 17, which isn’t saying much because Buffalo has a horrible team year in and year out. Akron pretty much needs to win out for a bowl bid, and if they lose to Buffalo they can hang it up completely.
Buffalo, another one of my Alma Maters.
So, when does Rummy get the medal of freedom?
I couldn’t resist thinking of Marc when I read this: http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Church-Snakebite.html
Have fun.

sad that someone could need so badly to believe in something, but in the end it’s just goes a little bit towards cleaning up the gene pool.

Rove is under his bed sucking his thumb! ๐ฎ asshole. You’re a genius Rove! Ha Ha Ha
Now let’s all flood emails to Allen’s office. Sore loser!
We got that part done. Now for the fun stuff:
[…]Most of the new Democratic Party gains in the House were conservative “Blue Dog” Democrats who do not support immediate withdrawal from Iraq. Instead these new Dems, controlled by Bill Clinton’s Democratic Leadership Council (DLC), will steer the country on a basic status quo course. Their excuse will be – – hey we have a national election in two years and we want to take back the White House. So we have to go slow now so we don’t alienate the public.
My translation – the corporations will control the new Democratic Party Congress and we will see no real basic change.
So what does the peace movement do now?
We must continue to call for immediate withdrawal from Iraq. We must call for a 50% cut in military spending and conversion of the military industrial complex. We must call for an end to Star Wars research and development funding which now stands at about $10 billion a year.
We must also call for investigations of Bush-Cheney for impeachable offenses. We must call for repeal of the Patriot Act and the recent Military Commissions Act – the torture bill…

“The Democrats took the House although several races are still undecided. In the Senate, control depends on who wins Virginia. Democrat Jim Webb currently leads by 7000 votes, but there will be a recount. This race could fester for weeks in the courts. Unlike Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004, the Democrats control the Virginia electoral machinery.” Go here to view the site.
George Allen give up you asshole sore loser!

Divided government in Alabama. Incumbent Republican Bob Riley was re-elected Governor of the state. Democrat Jim Folsom was elected Lieutenant Governor. Thugs took the bulk of the state offices. ๐ What ya expect? It’s Alabama for God’s sake!
BTW, there is a rumor that our beloved ๐ (R) Gov. Bob Riley is a likely pick as Republican VP in the 2008 Presidential election. McCain and Riley v. Clinton and ??? This Alabama native is voting DEMOCRAT. As Fred would say: Rethugs are ๐ฟ
FYI: A Democrat (who happens to be a woman) took the office of Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice a position formerly held by the :roll:Ten Commandments Judge Roy Moore! He He He :nana:
Rumsfeld is out? Wow, I never thought that would happen
We must continue to call for immediate withdrawal from Iraq. Yeah, we have to tell them what we want – they do serve us.
I believe that Rummy sees the storm of investigations, subpoenas and God willing, impeachments, and is getting out of Dodge. This all happened within the last 24 hours, so there’s no planning to it. Rummy’s leaving town and perhaps enjoying a permanent vacation in Argentina.
RE 157 – Right on Nick! :fist:
I’m wondering if Rummy went to Bush to offer his resignation early this morning after the Rethug Rovian Debacle expecting Bush would turn him down again. After all Bush did say last week that Rummy and the Dickster were doing excellent jobs and would remain through the end of his final two years in office. Rummy caught Bush fuming over the unexpected election results. After all, Rove had promised Bush that it (the election) was “in the bag”. (wink, wink) So this time Bush in a state of rage canned Rummy. I guess we’ll never know huh? Regardless of the true sequence of events, the net result? No Rummy to fuck us and our troops. Just wondering if we’ll see any real change in this illegal war? Dems should take note of the disgust of the people of this country with this :yuck:war. Bush is still in need of intervention. He has obviously lost his mind. Keep the straight jacket ready! Soon to be Speaker-of-the-House, Nancy Pelosi says the Dems will not cutoff funding of the war and will not impeach the President! I think I’m gonna :barf: be sick now. So maybe the Dems will at least investigate Bush and the Republicans? Goddamnit, I hope so. Can we now reverse any of this looney legislation passed by the Thugs and Bush? Get rid of the Patriot Act. Stop torture, abide by the Geneva convention. Stop Credit Card Companies from charging ungodly interest rates. What else? Damn . . . the list is a mile or more long . . .
:tommygun::yippee::rofl2::banana::nana::fu:
Dear SpeedRacer, wherever you are:
Bwaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…
Where’s SpeedRacer when you need [to taunt] him?
I know Nick. I don’t know if what Pelosi says is binding or not. But this country will never, I mean never regain any semblance of trust in the rest of the world (forget respect I mean just trust) unless we impeach this crew and try them for war crimes.
On an interesting plus side, once Rummy is out of office, he could conceivably be arrested in a foreign country that wanted to try him for war crimes because he is now a private citizen. Or he will be come January. I hear the French Hate him! Ha!!
So I figure Little Georgie got himself in trouble in Iraq so it’s time for Daddy to call in his friends, the Baker/Gage cabal, to get wittle Georgie out of trouble. DADDY HELP!!!!

Oh and I heard Rangel say there’d be an “orgy of subpoenas!”
NBC CALLING WEBB NOW!!! YEAH! :pup:
Its bizarre how the media is again pushing Allen out the door, just as they did with Gore in 2000. This may not be popular to say, since Allen is a total shit and a rascist, but what’s the fucking hurry? Take a day or two to canvas the vote properly; they can’t take office for two months! Two million went to the polls in Va- why does rushing the count serve their interests? Or those of the rest of the country, which want to see if its a Dem Senate. In 2000, the media should have screamed bloody murder that all the votes weren’t counted. All these guys want is to change the story from day to day so they have something new to report. What degenerates.
That being said, what a great day this, and yesterday, are for this country. :sammy:
:shock:that chicks voice got me uhhhhhh yep
Crest, they’re so conservative (they being the media) with vote calling that I don’t consider it pushing ’em out the door like in 2000 (but I’d kick him in the rear on his way out if I were there!)
Seanie, so you wouldn’t have hung up like he did – when he realized he dialed wrong? hmmmmmm ๐

I was just over at my old house and my friend and I were in the living room and heard 3 really really loud shots and a scream like next door or across the street. We stayed in the house a bit but then I had to go and Doug walked me out to my car and we saw 3 or 4 young guys at the neighbors house. One was coming out of the back door and when I got in the car to leave and drove by, 2 of them seemed like they were standing guard. I got a really bad feeling so i called my friend and told him he should call the cops, something bad happened. :paranoid::eek::omg::(
I do not know what to say. This is in S.D.:?: You did what was the CORRECT action. But still :!:
I’m worried, I think someone might be dead. ๐ฅ
okay, i couldn’t help it. i made a good bye slide show for Rumsfeld set to “Yesterday” by the Beatles
go here to check it out

Krista, be careful. hopefully those guys didn’t see you. but i agree, you did the right thing:nod:
:paranoid:
They saw me and I saw them but it was dark and I don’t think I could identify them, nor they me. I don’t live over there anyways.
Krista you said this was your old house, are you home now?
Yeah, I’m home. I tried calling my friend but he said he was talking to the police so I hung up. I feel awful if people were dying in that house as I drove away. We heard the shots but that is sort of a regular occurance there, sort of so you get used to hearing them and not doing anything and I wanted to think those young guys in front of that house were friends of the neighbor or something but I had a really really bad feeling and it had to do with how they were moving around.
I always figured that was more of a “coast” problem, not so much in the interior of the country. I’m relieved you’re OK.
Phoenix is one of the most violent cities in the US. I hate that about this city. That’s one of the reasons I tried living in Portland. Their crime rate is pretty average or on the low side.
OK Krista, I am glad you’re alright. I’ve got to hit the sack. Working the polls all day yesterday, and then up late to watch returns. Take care.
Yeah, I did that too Andy, G’nite.
I/we now live in a “Vic” and the neighborhoods go from horrid with shots fired to good but with hooligans surrounding the area.. But we are in the Time of Entropy. ๐ I am glad you are safe and pray for good results regarding the police report and your friend.
Time for a good cup of tea:joe: and :pup: love. ๐
