Lots of people have to work today, but lots more will be hitting the road (or the airport; debatable which mode of transportation is faster – especially if you’re within about a five or six hour drive). Thanksgiving is one of those nice holidays, for the most part untouched by commercialism. It celebrates our ancestors’ (or at least our predecessors’) gratitude to the native people, for showing them how to survive. Since it was about the last decent thing Europeans ever did on this continent, it’s fitting that we’ve made it a four-day weekend. The other nice thing is that it’s a holiday for which I have absolutely no responsibilities, other than to show up. Showing up is actually about the only thing I’m any good at.
We’ll be heading over to the in-laws’ tomorrow, and that’s nice, of course, but, well, they’re a bunch of immigrants who don’t give a fliegen fickt about football, so there’ll be none of that. I have to admit I miss that part of the holiday – have missed it for about 13 years now. Not that the games were ever that good, or that I ever really cared about the Detroit Lions (and god knows I hate Dallas), but it sure would be nice to stuff my face, and then settle down on the couch to watch the games with my dad again. Kinda miss my mom flittering around the kitchen, trying to make everything perfect, too. In all the years we had Thanksgiving at our house, I don’t think I ever saw her sit down long enough to actually eat anything – and my dad actually did most of the cooking (but don’t tell her I said so). Of course, my mother-in-law does pretty much the same thing, which makes it tough on me, because, no matter how much I eat, if she doesn’t see me eat it, it doesn’t count. Well, my father-in-law is always up for a couple of beers, and that’s always nice. Then I can let him beat me at ping-pong.
And, of course, it was 43 years ago today that JFK was shot. Can’t say as I remember it, since I was barely three years old, but I know a lot of you will never forget where you were when you heard the news.
Anyhow, if you’re traveling today, be careful. Drive safely, and if you’re flying, keep your precious fluids under 3 ounces (and pack extra underwear in you carry on, just in case). Otherwise, have a good Wednesday.

The extra underwear will come in handy in case you can’t keep your precious fluids under 3 ounces. Right?
:rofl2:
Sorry, but I had to say it. I made it to work at 6:15 this morning and I’m downright giddy to be here by myself actually accomplishing some shit.
Does anyone have a good recommendation for a white wine that goes well with turkey? I was thinking about picking something up last night when I heard Thomas Haden Church do a voiceover on a TV commercial, and I’m assuming it’s a sign from someone. (He was in “Sideways,” for those of you who haven’t seen it.)
But I don’t want any fucking Merlot!

i have 14 more minutes!
good morning everyone!
Kat I am embarassed to say that I am unrolling my crusts this year. I just dont have it in me to do that part…and they seem to ike it just as well. I do an apple with granny smith, gala, cranberries, and walnuts…all brown sugar and molassas…they all love it.
Also, apparently I make an excellent pecan, but Im not a pecan pie person and I fillow the recipe from the olf Fannie Farmer…just sugar upon sugar.
And last year the neice wanted cherry so I made that up out of frozen tart cherries and this and that, so now Ive got another to make…
Then of course the cranberry sauce….and I do a green vegetable because my sister doesnt believe in it (as she also doesnt take grease off the drippings and uses stove top stuffing and wondra gravy maker in her gravy…yuck!)
They had a big asparagus sale. We also do little onions here because thats a litte too much like a veggie to be done at my sister’s…..
so after the movie we went out to eat then we tried to go to this place to get grape pie but it was closed 🙁
Seanie…have you found a holiday squeeze that you really like? Thats so nice!
Are you staying home for Thanksgiving…or heading out to make extra $$?
grape pie? …like, out of grapes?
druid: you must make time for sleep! most body repair functions are saved for periods of rest.
sean: how cool for both of you. do you take her to school in your truck?
my dads pickup
yeah we went out twice first time pool and darts 🙂 shes cute and smart and she thinks i am funny thats all i need really a girl that gets my jokes!
oh and Himan wants beef stew , so Im gonna do that on the side…
The best news is that after I spent the $300 on groceries, couponed $40, and had 2 carts needing help to get to the car, I was informed that I had reached my first free turkey!!
That sends me into a tizzy because I can only eat a humane one…or humane as it can be.
So I went crazy looking at least for the kosher because its probably a little better…right?…anyway, I found an Islamic one!!! So odd….”Butchered under Islamic law”
Well, I expect that that is not all so much better than butterball or Kosher for that matter.
But I figure that if this thing defrosts I can cook it up and bring some of that to Himan too….and make some real gravy!
:love:yes pie from grapes! awesome and different!
and is she open to learnign about politics??
wow…I wonder how you make that because it must be awfully wet.
Im expecting that they have to use some sort of thickener beyond a litle flour and sugar…
:doh:not really but she votes dem…… not that voting dem excuses one from knowing whats going on in the world……
sean: i meant the sis not the squeeze
but do you take the new love interest out in the truck? be great for a drive-in!
Im trying this Enviga green tea soda…..its by Nestle/coke…and supposedly it makes you lose weight….or in any case it makes the green tea claims.
its just like cherry pie but with grapes and great!
she reads lots of books though…… and she laughed at the republicans are burning old people bit from morning sedition…… ugh i am digging this chick too much i am very annoyed!
The Today show has the black guys who were the hecklers at michael richards show
why be annoyed Sean? Just have some fun!! Its bound to happen sooner or later that you will like one onf these girls….and it would be nice ot have someone to come home to besides family, right?
melina:
apple, cranberry, walnut, molasses…yummmmm!
👿 i would have to quit my job if i had a girlfriend!
yeah, but grapes are wetter than cherries….
Whats the girl’s name?
well, youve been meaning to get back to school, right?
I wish youd start some distance learning….you can maybe start on some credits online and with an advisor……
Oh GOD!!! The Hecklers have GLORIA ALRED…she is talking about damages for emotional distress….payment, of course…

There seem to be a lot of husband wife teams on the road these days. 😯

I wonder how long it took these guys to get a manager, lawyer, and stylist…
Im sure its disgusting for anyone to say anythign racist, but this is crazy…..
It is a slow news day….all we’re supposed to have on the news is cooking, parade, weather, travel…and unfortunately soldiers and war….
but its all full of Rosie ODonnell (who I think that Merideth Viera just slammed) and MIchael Richards….
The white house should send them a fruit basket….heaven knows they dont want Bush to open his mouth when thins are this slow!
Fred! Great idea….you could both drive and do distane learning from U Buffalo
And make sure you bring her down here so I can meet her!!
We don’t have a third shift this week ..except on the days when we do ( like yesterday) .. Will be shut down entirely by the end of the first shift today and will only do minimal work for all of December.:shock::paranoid:
so when’s the happy day sean?
what sort of work do you do there Fred? I was never clear about it, though I know its technical….
roxie…:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2::rofl2: youre gonna end this thing before it starts…hes already gonna have to give up the tittie bars and his wandering ways……:rofl2:
fred,
so where am i supposed to get my very early morning news roundup for the rest of the year.
thanksgiving, indeed.
where’s susan this a.m. must be sleeping in too.

Thanksgiving, again?… :smack: Guess I’ll go for some Beijing duck this weekend. (It may not be turkey, but it’s a bird!)
melina:
he’ll always have his bouncing boobies emo!
Fred…you have a computer at home right?……
KK!!! Is Beijing Duck like Peking Duck here?
:boobs::boobs::boobs::boobs::boobs::boobs::boobs::boobs::boobs::boobs::boobs::boobs:
Ive been looking into the yearly Kos convention…Its the first weekend of August in Chicago thisyear and they are gonna have alot of really great stuff there….Is anyone else gonna go?…or thinking of it?
Good Morning :joe:

Beijing Duck = Peking Duck
But there are styles. Northers Chinese styles are saltier and southern Chinese styles are sweeter. La, la  here in Taiwan we have all the Chinese styles!
mmmmmm! duck! thanks kk,
all this food talk is putting me into serious eating mode. think i’ll go out to breakfast this a.m.
Will just gave me a really hard time about going to school even though its half a day….and his appt after got cancelled….but most of his friends are not going supposedly…so he left telling me how much he cant stand me for being so selfish and stubborn….
We;re taking a few extra days before christmas to go to Cancun early so we can get back by christmas day….and Im not letting Mr take-a-day-off slide at all.
Krista!!
Hey PJ, we need a turky emo and also a pie one….since we know youre not baking pies or anything…..
I am a process controls engineer. The making of semiconductors requires a lot of chemicals that have to be kept at certain temperatures and motion stages that move wafers under process equipment , and process equipment like lasers and ion implantation equipment that have to be maintained. I am on call in the case of a malfunction and was here so much at night that we agreed that I would just be here for the last half of the third shift and “most” of the first shift .. I work about 60 hours a week .:yawn: I get paid by the hour for all the hours above 40.. Most of the time the third shift is extreme boredom interrupted by moments to hours of shear panic. Blogging is a good way to stay awake while passing the time.:omg:
I guess Bill Press is alright. I think i didn’t like him at first because i couldn’t accept someone besides Marc trying to be funny in the morning.
Melina,
Re grapes
There is a restaurant in Berkeley called Cesar that roasts fresh grapes in a 425 degree oven for 25-60 minutes not to the point of creating raisins but caramelize. They drizzle sherry wine vinegar on them but you could probably skip that or use another liquid if using for a sweet dish.
They serve them with serrano ham.
KK, I like the sweeter one . My friend’s Mom is Chinese and she sorta stayed with her community in chinatown, though her kids are all very Brooklyn…..but she brings up all sorts of heavily salt duck and chicken, She is from a small village in the countryside and I think that maybe the salty thing is part of preserving food…?
But, for me, Some very expensive David Keh’s crunchy peking duck is excellent…maybe based more in the hoisin than even the duck itself….by the time it gets so Americanized.
wvm…that sounds so great…is it green or red grapes?…we need gypsy!! Did she ever fix her computer?
Hey, does anyone have a good recipe for a turkey? Roxie had one a few days ago, but I can’t find it.
I guess that up ther ein wine country you get alot of uses for grapes that you wouldnt expect.
what have you got in the house Krista?
Is AAR going into reruns starting today?
Fred is at home this am.. The first shift starts in about 45 minutes at 7 am ..I hope you will still get your morning news ..maybe not at 5 am eastern though.
Krista, there are all sorts of things you can do with it. From just throwing it in the oven, to cutting it in 4 pieces and cookign it for only 90 mins a la Rachel Ray…but throw some veggies aorudn it and make some good drippings for gravy!!
if you click the link up in post # 13 her name is on her myspace page…… concord grapes yummy!
well, Fred I hope that they are no slowing because jobs are in trouble….and I hope that you are secure….but taking December to sleep a little later is probably a good thing….
Red flame or some other red seedless grape. Do it on parchment and turn the bunches at some point in the process.
I’ll cook the turkey over at my friends house. All I have is a large toaster oven here. I have oven bags but I haven’t got the turkey yet, or anything else as I didn’t really know what I was doing til yesterday.
hmm…maybe Ill try that. Also the weight watchers people always do some freezing grapes thing….Ill have to tell them about this. Ill bet it would also be good over some not too sweet vanilla ice cream (not in the WW vein)
A turkey emo could be confused as implying that we want to eat rethugs .. all that BS they are full of probably makes poor stuffing though :reaper::reaper:
The place I go for duck uses a bicycle pump to separate the skin and duck meat. They smoke the duck for a day. Then it is presented with sauces, ‘pancakes’, and green onions. The bits that can’t be sliced are turned into soup and a noodle dish.
:yippee:
KP, just don’t forget to take the gizzards out. Trust me.
Melina, BTW,
We once asked Buddy Miller what his favorite desert was and he said red velvet cake. Just one more reason to love Buddy (and miss my mother).
she is so cute Sean….get her a box of godiva chocolates!! Its her weakness…
:paranoid: i just noticed a bunch of typos on her myspace page!
Sheeesh! How out of touch can one be!
From the story above:
You know, I think the momentum of our past prosperity is why people keep coming here. I think people are disappointed when they get here and find how hard it is to find a decent paying job to cover the high cost of living.I work with an Irish woman and she was telling me how the perception of America being paved with gold is still out there.
Slow cook and or baste almost constently.
I use to do Organic feasts for MANY in early 30’s in LA. I no longer cook:eek:(almost), it is all about other things now.

For turkey, it may be a little late for tomorrow but before Ra-Ray deconstructing the bird there was Chef Wolfe’s New American Turkey Cookery which is worth checking out for future purposes. Cuts cooking time and drying out possibilities. You might find it cheap at a used book store and I put an Amazon link below.
Above all else, I suggest you brine or kosher the bird ASAP no matter how you are going to do it.

HI KK! :nixon:
KP => I brine and then I found this (after Roxie’s recipe mentioned). I love Alton’s show – food and science and it’s campy to boot! He brine’s, too, so I think this is a good one to follow.
Now, my apple pie crust is not behaving. Pumpkin crust feels right, but may have to remake the apple pie crust. :omg: Melina, I’m known for my desserts so it would be sacrilege not to do things the old fashioned way!
I don’t know how many of you are familiar with how instrumental (and controversial) GI Coffeehouses located in communities with military bases were in the military anti-war movement that I think was the thing most responsible for bringing an end to the Vietnam War (I can’t recommend the documentary film Sir! No Sir! enough), but the first GI Coffeehouse since Vietnam has opened north of me here, in Watertown, NY – home of the 10th Mountain Division.
Dru re #89, I know you mean YOUR 30’s and no THE 30’s…or you would be Hi’s age…..:rofl2:
Dmp her, dood. Nuthin werse then summbuddy hoo caint splel.
Kat my grandma on my Mom’s side taught me the crust…and it makes me so sad to miss her at this time of year….there is no big family thanksgiving in Mass. anymore since shes gone…but she taught me to cook…Just seems like no one notices and I am famous for my pies.
The one thing that I need to try is the homemade cheese crust for the apple pie. That sounds heavenly….Pillsubury doesnt make one of those:santacool:
where is my turkey emo????? we need a PIE!! Is there an exploding pie or some such? Pie in the face of smiley …??

Blue…where are you??? Travis???
To the coffeehouse? No, it’s for the soldiers. We had a screening of Sir! No Sir! here a few weeks ago, and it was a tremendously moving film, and full of information that I think very few people have ever heard of. If you get a chance, go and watch the 12-minute extended trailer (and then buy the DVD). There were people from the GI peace movement there, and they were talking about the coffeehouse opening up – and there are more opening up around bases all over the country.
In my 30’s I did alot of that too…In my family we go to the house with the biggest able and my sister passed me, so we go to the passable food area (though free range turkey only is served for moral ethical reasons) and I cook more here for Mom and Will and I…and firemen and whatever wandering souls are earby…though heaven knows that the fireguys are over there with the fryer and frying tons of turkeys for themselves and their friends. Yuck…though I hear that its good….and if it starts a fire, well, the men are right there with the tanker truck!…but it seems a little too greasy for me. I cant eat fried foods anymore….not that I ever really did. I hear the the meat is very tender and the oil stays only on the outside…right! THats why theyre all so fat over there…the community bringing them treats and the fried turkey for every holiday.
Ever do fried ice cream? Mmmmm.
I’m still catching up with reading (while trying to get out of the house to get my ass to class) but BRINE YOUR FRAKING TURKEY!!!
Alton Brown is my Cooking Lord and Savior.
:jesus:
Need a quick and easy dessert or extra for Thanksgiving???
A Trader Joe’s opened up close to me here in Chicago and I bought one of their Pumpkin Bread and Muffin Mixes. Used SOUR CREAM instead of oil and LIGHT EGGNOG instead of water… baked them in muffin tins and frosted them with CREAM CHEESE FROSTING.
Really good… brought them into my Monday morning Performance class. 🙂
Melina, :rofl2: 😮 Gee THX re 105 I was not around IN The 30’s.
To Paraphrase Seinfield, “Not that there is anything wrong with Hi’s age.” I have a friend I made when I first came to town who was 74, now 80ish. Someone told me not to talk to her…and the reason I found out why is that she HAS A BRAIN and a most important attitude, like me teehee ❗
AIV
Mmmm. Brains.
how does one make a brine? Is it just salt water that the turkey floats in overnight?…I can do that considering that this frozen guy has to thaw…..After that I could bring him up to the firehouse for an oil bath I suppose….;-)
PJ- I cant fidn that movie on the internets….is that the correct name…sir! yes sir!
I LOVE the Food Network….. LOVE IT
Alton Brown recipe for Brine (SO much more than a salt water bath!!!)

ok…I bought the movie just to support them and to see it because….I dont think its at the Avon yet….
Dru- I have a sad feeling that they are off stewing about freedom of speech or something….its silly….but i sure is nice to just chat without alot of tension and articles….
I suppose they will cone back if they want to…and they are welcomed as far as Im concerned. Hell, someone had to say something. Im not sorry I said what I did. But Im sorry that they grasped onto the wrong side of it…as the content rather than just looking round and seeing how much discourse was stopping….
Anyway…..Im putting 3 pies in now….moving right along….
I need to have one out for Will by 12:30-ish when he gets off the bus after his half day!
OK pg…you got me …Im gonna try to get the stuff today if the market isnt too crowded. Brine the turkey….eeekkkk!
Melina, I am glad all said what was being said…..I got “lost” amongst their “repartee” a few times, when tried.
Just reminding them … THAT IT IS ONLY NATURAL  :slap: ❗ 😉

my post at #103 links to Alton Brown’s turkey recipe complete with brining instructions. you have to boil the kosher salt, sugar, peppercorns etc. and then cool before soaking. The happy Eberly free range organic Amish hen is in a William Sonoma recipe brine & bag.
This, of course, is the definitive turkey recipe.
I must reread my “bloody” blogs– errors  :omg:

beer can turkey => pj’s specialty!
Though I would probably go with Fosters.
Yeah, I actually thought of that. The can is larger, correct?
Ok, better get back to it. Lovely day here and took a nice little walk with two helpers. Walking one dog is so easy!
It’s amazing to me that Al ever thought “Mastication Theater” was funny, let alone funny enough to make it on a “best of” show.

Have I mentioned yet tonight how much I thank you, PJ?
If you don’t have the time to go through the whole brining exercises, if you have a box of kosher salt there are usually instructions on how to kosher meat. I always do this with any kind of poultry. You soak the bird for a while, dry, cover with salt inside and out for a while, and rinse. I actually submerge the salted bird in water at that point until I am ready to use and let it soak. Then I rinse it very well and go for it.
Turkey Day is upon us!!!!
one more day till i enjoy some lovely Salvadoran Turkey!!:yippee::dancers::banana::banana::yippee:
but today is also the anniversary of the JFK assassination. so take some time today and remember where you were when you first heard the news. or if you didn’t exist (like me), think of how things might’ve been different if he survived. or even RFK for that matter!
okay….time to go over my conspiracy theories and watch the Food Network!:yippee: time for a cooking frenzy to hit my house!
I always thought these :dancers: looked like turkeys.
Seanie Sean …have fun :yippee: and take her with you.:pup:

well, dont worry Dru…they will be back if they want to….if not, they will find a place.
All is wrapped up and cooking for the moment and I have to go and pick up my final (?) farm share.
I just watched a movie called An Unfinished Life, with Redford…how does that man keep looking so damned good?
I saw him 15 years ago in MT and he had lines but looked just like himself (a little short…but arent they all?)…I guess he had a facelife…
Anyway it was a touching, nice movie to watch while baking pies.
Next up…Thank You For Smoking….and according to the Netflix trailers, Little Miss Sunshine should be out already or soon…

(my timing and mind are askrew )
Blue…youre here? What are your plans for turkey day? is travis OK?
I don’t cook. I tried when the kids were young but they held a “family meeting” at the end of which they asked me not to ever cook again. I guess they just couldn’t get used to lousy cooking. Hubby is a good cook. I’m super with a microwave.
We’re off the Rhode Island for Thanksgiving. I’ll spend the holiday worrying about the cats who will be home.
Everyone, have a great holiday and may your travels be safe. And, this year we have much for which to be thankful, beginning with the end of Rethug control of congress.
Morning, Seditionists!
Wanted to wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!
And to quietgirl – good call – I forgot what today is. Thanks for the reminder.
My best to you all!

Well, this is a kosher bird…as opposed to the Islamic bird that I rejected.(I kept thinking of a scimitar coming down on the thing’s throat while it squawked to god for help!…is that racist?)
Can I soak it in a clean bucket?….Or a Tin pan that ?
Have a safe trip sue….Happy gobble gobble Dark…enjoy.
In just trying not to think of the turkey’s life or the poor Indian that we screwed over to get here…but maybe we can make ammends somehow if we manage to keep control of the government somehow.
Aww Melina…I just visited my queue and I have had 3 films for 2 months…
But I wanted to rent 3 Women by Robert Altman.
So will have to watch some movies this weekend.

What is the difference between Rock Salt/Sea Salt and Koser Salt?
Is it that it is Blessed by a Rabbi?
Or is it that a full Ritual with a Blessing is performed with a Rabbi?

Have a Great Day of Thanks and Giving.
The type of salt that most people use in cooking and at the table is from rock salt. Table salt is a fine-grained salt that often contains added iodine, which is necessary for normal thyroid function. It may also contain an anti-caking ingredient, such as calcium silicate, to keep it flowing freely.
Kosher salt is a coarse-grained rock salt that usually has no additives. Gourmet cooks often prefer the texture and flavor of kosher salt in cooking. It is often used in the preparation of kosher meats.
Sea salt comes in either fine or coarse grain and has a slightly different taste because of different minerals it contains. Many people prefer sea salt to table salt because they claim it has a more subtle flavor. Like kosher salt, sea salt contains no additives.

THX Fred, I only use Sea or Natural (no additives)… I was trying to find out about Koser. Thank You. Again, I forget I have “google” when truly just running “crazy” AND NOT THINKING  Sorry. 😳 I am better though. All I can say is

I was thinking when I went to the gym perhaps I should have explained kosher salt but I thought maybe everyone would already know.
I soak turkeys in anything I can dubmerge on completely, either a large stock pot or lately one of those huge detergent buckets from CostCo.
You could even do it in a clean sink or dishpan.
You can get a big box of kosher salt for about two bucks. I love the stuff especially for cooking and margarita rims.and hate regular table salt. I did start using sea salt a lot a few years ago instead of table salt at the table.
Not to demean the meaning of the holiday but I would be very thankful, Painting Girl, to have a Trader Joe’s in town. I go there almost every day because I can. Get some of their pumpkin butter if they have any. Can they sell alcohol there? I seem to remember regular stores in Chicago having everything but laws can be strange in different places. In VA they can’t sell hard liquor at any place other than an ABC store.
wvmc3d No Worries. Read 158 and 159 but thx. 😉

FK, thanks for the wine-recommendation article. I’m leaning toward either a chardonnay or a pinot grigio, but with my limited expertise in selecting wine, I’ll probably grab whatever is least expensive at the store.
I wonder if they still make Ripple. We used to get trashed on that stuff from time to time in high school.

It’s amazing to me that Al ever thought “Mastication Theater” was funny, let alone funny enough to make it on a “best of” show.

And didn’t you love how all the guest segments were recycled from Monday and Tuesday’s shows? Such care and forethought made today’s show well worth tuning out. I put on the new Dylan instead.
Yeah, I sent the new Dylan to my mom in Anchortown for her Birthday, which is on Fri. Not that it’s important or anything. Well, I think I’ll be spending less and less time on here now that I’m going to being working- maybe even two jobs!:barf:
Hey Travis, Happy T-Day, and congrats on the job(s). I guess. The only thing worse than working is not working.
Yeah, Kevin, you remember Marc and the gang used to pre-tape stuff so that there was some new content when they were off? Sure do miss that show.

Yeah, those were the days. Not to mention that a “comedy” piece as lame as Mastication Theatre wouldn’t have made the first cut of material on MS.
I sure hope Franken works harder in the Senate than he does on AAR. Of course, Norm Coleman sets the bar pretty low in terms of expectations from that particular Senate seat.
Better go get my wine before everyone else gets off work and the store gets too packed.
:alc:
We had a fine wine called Richard’s Wild Irish Rose. Yummm
I would go with a good pinot grigio or a lighter red. The nouveau beajolais should be in now.
wvmc3d Are you in my (our) “city”:?: Sounds good, a pinot grigio. Also one of my favs is the gentle, strength of a good (pinot noir) Pinot Noir. Yum.
But wvmc3d should know. He is in “the area” now.

“Three Ravens” has a White Blend which is inexpensive. But I have only drank the “Three Ravens” Red Blend and very seldom since I usually do not drink, and usually something special, if I do.

U.S. capital flows fall to $65.1 billion
WASHINGTON — Foreign investors put a smaller amount of money into long-term U.S. securities in September than they did in August, the Treasury Department reported Thursday.
Net long-term capital inflows fell to $65.1 billion in September from a revised $114.4 billion in August. August’s inflows had previously been reported as $116.8 billion, which was a record.
Including short-term securities like Treasury bills, purchases were a net $53.7 billion in September, down from $97.1 billion in August.
Private foreign investors slowed their purchases of securities, buying $71.3 billion in Treasury bonds and notes, government agency bonds and other securities in September. Investors sold $8.1 billion in Treasury bonds and notes in the month.
Foreign central banks also bought fewer Treasurys in September, the data show. Official institutions bought $16.7 billion in U.S. securities, with $7.7 billion of that being Treasury bonds and notes.

Choosing Who Can See What on Your Blog
Web Service Offers Features
For Privacy, Adding Media;
Registration Is a Turn-Off
November 22, 2006; Page D7
Blogs have a place in many of our everyday lives, even if we aren’t bloggers ourselves. The word blog, short for Web log, is used to describe personal Web sites that are frequently updated with entries for sharing with others. They can range from your son’s personal blog about baseball statistics to a well-read and more polished political blog that gets tens of thousands of hits each day.
A big problem with blogs is privacy. While some people — especially MySpace fans — don’t mind posting personal news, photos and videos for anyone to read, many of us hesitate to leave details about our personal lives online.

BEIT HANOUN, Gaza Strip (AP) – Israeli ground troops, tanks and armored vehicles advanced on two northern Gaza towns Wednesday in pursuit of Palestinian rocket squads, besieging a well-known Hamas lawmaker’s house and engaging militants in ferocious clashes, Palestinian officials said.
Militants, undeterred by Israel’s military might, pressed ahead with their rocket attacks on southern Israel. A 22-year-old Palestinian affiliated with the military wing of the ruling Hamas party was shot and killed while launching a projectile, the group said. Earlier in the day, a rocket hit an Israeli school just before pupils arrived.

I saw Richards apology on Letterman and I think he said he went back to the club later and tried to find them but they had left already.
I thought you might be somewhere up in the NW where they have some excellent pinots, gris and noir.
What the hell can they sue him for? A hate crime?
One of the things that will have to be confronted in the coming months that is not being addressed very well by even the left sided media is the reason(s) most of the world is ticked off at the SBR. Oppressed people having no army, navy or air force have few choices . The war in Iraq has shown those people that the SBR is a great military paper tiger ( a quote from Ho Chi Minh I believe)
Unless the SBR relinquishes its Imperialism they will isolate and destroy us.:rant1:
You can sue someone for almost any thing and it will cost the person being sued a minimum of about 30 grand to defend them selfs even if the suit is thrown out.:bf:
It appears that emptying the cache has cleared up my problem.

Hey everybody! Druid I don’t see your message on the voice mail. Maybe I overlooked it?
Has anyone heard the ‘new’ Beatles album? My friends want me to drive across town to eat pizza and listen to it. I am not sure if I should do that or brave the Chinese market for a dungeness crab, an SF Thanksgiving tradition.

Speaking of Gaza, Mr. Fk just got the call he has to go to Tel Aviv on Fri evening. at least his turkey day will be home.
PLUS => he went to the ham store because he decided that would be a wonderful addition to tomorrows meal and the gal weighed the ham and said, “Sir, it weighs 6.66 pounds. Are you sure you want this??” He told her we worship the devil. The ham is in our fridge. 😀
(wish it came from a happy pig, though, it kinda bums me out.)
am told the pies look “pie perfect.” Ohhh, I sure do hope so.
I just skyped you Vern
careful druid. Melina et al – hear your weather may be really bad; the parade may be canceled. :omg:
my grandma at my house for thanksgiving!

Kat…so sorry that your Mr has to fly again, but tell him we all wish him a quick and safe return!…and not to worry about the pig spirit of the 666 looking over his shoulder…we will try to exorcise it with good thoughts for him. Also tell him that we will be watching him.
I am sort of hoping for really bad weather because that will keep grandpa home and then I can stay home with my brining trukey and pies….happy…
We’ll see what tomorrow brings…but it looks sorta bad.
I will put up a pic of my pies on my blog a bit later…Kat please photograph yours as well….Id love to see how the real crust looks. I make up for the dough boy with a leaf and vine motif. I used to hand sculpt it, but I now use some cookie cutters along with hand sculpting.
QG- so glad you can see grandma! I iss both of mine so much around this time of year…but especialy the cooking one.
I wish they would also cancel that damned parade…its so dangerous how they do it. I just cant imagine that they continue every year like that. We have the second largest ballon parade in the country here is STamford (it was last Sunday) but we dont have the same sorts of obstacles and also they seem to cancel ours pretty easily…or they have a weather date or somehting…
OK…moving on to pumpkin!! Very tired but at least I stopped by the bird store and got to play with birds and hang out ….
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. The lure of the Beatles and pizza calls.
thanks Melina!

Happy turkey (and tofukey) day everyone! Good luck with any family craziness you may run in to!
Hey! good to see you Anastasi! Happy Thanksgiving to you to! :pup:
This week in cinema! Cool. We definitely have some talented people on this blog. Hope all you others don’t think you have to make a big production of it. Just a simple hello is nice.
OK…well, I have done the pecan, I have done the pumpkin and the apple too…the cranberry sauce….I guess Ill wait till tomorrow for the cherry…
And I watched Thank You For Smoking, which was god but it could have been better somehow. i didnt really feel it…but it was OKI think Im gonna go and lay down early…just rest a bit…
And I suppose Ill try to brine tomorrow too…or Friday during Black Friday AM. Can one brine overnight? The recipe said for 6 hours….Ive got the bird out in the mud room and its so freakin cold that its not defrosting. Since its a secondary bird Im not worried….
Have a great night guys and Ill see whoever is around tomorrow here….and those of you who are travelling, be very careful….lots of drunken fools out there on these holidays!:dancers:
thats great!! Is it Andy?….Ill have to think of one….I was gonna do my birds in the morning because they play and squawk alot…but maybe julia child cooking….
It’s me.
Sorry for my lack of responses tonight. I’m having issues with my browser tonight. It’s never acted like this before. And the weird thing is its only this site that is giving me a problem. So I downloaded Firefox for Mac. Maybe this will solve the problem? Fingers crossed.
So Andy did you do “This Week in Cinema” on the voice mail?
Yeah that was me. I fainally gave up trying to get the music and the movie clip sound levels correct and just went with it the way it was. I tell you Nick I am really amazed that Marc and crew could come up with 3 hours a day, 5 days a week of MS. That clip was 2 minutes and it took forever.
Never mind I see now that you did. Great job Andy!
229. My browser crashed about 15 minutes ago, while I was here too.
You’re telling me. Lots of writers and creative people. I’m surprised your not involved in radio. Have you ever worked in radio broadcasting Andy?
That is SO cool Andy…you must develop your talent!! YOU Can see why Marc wants a writing staff. Its impossible to do more than once or twice per week otherwise….and if you need the funny and skits, forget it.
But I am very impressed!
YOu should do a travel report tomorrow as if youre int he airport somewhere like mall of america (dont they have an airport too?)
Nite guys…pie lady has to go to bed…my back hurts.
here is a little happiness….dont know if I posted this already….but, its my kind of ticket, though Im a little skeptical of Obama.
I think the culprit is MyChingo message system. Something about it is adversely affecting my browser. Not certain what it would be. But thus far Firefox is running fine.
Thanks and goodnight Melina.
Nope Nick The only experience I have was the Junior Variety show back in high school. I did a bunch of different voices adn my friend and I adapted some Firesign Theatre to stage.
So Nick, you couldn’t tell it was my voice?
Well you missed your calling Andy. Keep developing this talent. I’ll work on a “How-to podcast” page in the coming week. You really need Audicity or Peak Express 5 to mix down your audio. I use Apple’s Garage Band to mix down my audio. I think it has an unlimited number of tracks for importing audio files and mixing them together and editing. But unless you have a Mac you won’t be able to use Garageband.
here is the laptop Gadget gift guide
And some black friday deals…though I havent figured where they are….or how hard it is to get them…But anyone near a circuit city might want ot check this $99 laptop closeout. The specs are good even though its a slightly older celeron processor…it still does the job. Just havent figured how many in each store and what time they go on sale…if its even worth it. It would make some inner city kid very happy.
No man I did not know it was you. I had a clue that it probably was because of your earlier post. But I thought – who the hell knows – perhaps we have a very talented crew here on this blog.
Thanks Nick, well I think I’m going to hit the sack. Have a safe trip tomorrow. :yinyang:
Melina they’ll prolly be a stampede for those $99.00 laptops. Can you imagine?
Happy Turkey Day all. Andy and Melina and everyone.
Maybe I’ll try to do some kind of audio skit also. What the hell. I’ve never really tried to do voices before. But I think I wouldn’t have to much of a problem sounding like a redneck. 😀
So I’m wondering once you’ve developed a character . . . how easy it is to produce said character over and over again. I mean. Like the vocal inflections – that which makes a character distinct. I’d be afraid that I’d not be able to fall into character. To recapture the character. I guess that is where the real talent lies. That and in coming up with an interesting storyline.
We’re impressed Andy! Keep doing this. I’m finding it fascinating and inspiring as well.
I’ll play around with it Andy. But I am so tired. And I haven’t even been baking or cooking like many on this blog. Luckily all I have to do is show up. I think I have something in common with PJ. Show up and eat all the goodies my family will prepare tomorrow afternoon. Happy Thanksgiving all. Beware of the malls on Friday. Careful travels. Good cheer!
BTW, Andy I’d love to feature some of your work on a podcast. If you wanted. Just a thought. Good night people. I’m going to bed.
OK Nick, I’ll be here in the morning. Have a safe trip. I’ve got to get back to bed.
Last!?
