You know what the problem with four Sundays in a row is? Monday really, really sucks.
First!!
uh oh….sounds like PJ has a case of the Mondays!:growl::fustrate:
well, i’m first, but i haven’t been to bed yet, so i’ll let someone else take my place:yawn:
Goodbye cruel blog:
The parody in yesterday morning’s chat box was very well written, and very funny. But it would have been funnier still if it had been posted on the regular blog where nicki and susan could respond to it in real time.
Then there’s the problem of anonymous posting. The only “poison pen letter” i’ve received was a valentine’s day card in the sixth grade. I can’t express to you all how little I enjoyed that.
So who wrote the parody? My first guess was cnick. He fired the first (public but apparently not private) shot in the anti nick & susan show. It also had a kind of bitchy gay guy feel to it. But, as far as i’ve seen, cnick’s pretty out front in his snarkiness. Plus he’s usually not around the blog at that time of day.
My guess is pj. He can be very funny and he’s always articulate and to the point. If it’s not pj, he certainly knows who wrote it and approves.
Why do I care? When cnick and melina started this most recent round of calling out nickirose & susan for their exclusionary behavior, the only problem I had was with the sort of “piling on” that occurred. But the parody and subsequent postings have taken it to a whole new level (somewhere around the sub-basement).
The whole thing put me in mind of high school (or even junior high) with the various “cliques” choosing sides. It’s gone beyond even that, with the entire pack pointing and laughing at the outsiders while simultaneously sucking up to pj. I could easily do a parody of yesterday’s postings myself: “oh pj, you’re such a great and wonderful blogmaster. Take care of those stinky, nasty, boring two. Kill them for us please. Everything will be wonderful again…”
Having always been a pink monkey myself, I spent a lot of my younger years figuring out how to pass for normal when I needed to. I’ve become quite adept at it — when I need to. I’ve rarely been much of a joiner and i’m now reminded why that is. I feel the cold wind of conformity on the back of my neck. A purge is taking place. There’s now an in-crowd and an out-crowd here. I find that I always choose the out-side in this sort of situation.
Anyone wishing to reach me can find me (but not anonymously) on myspace. Druid, fred, blue, travis, whoever….later if you so wish.
Thanks everyone for all the information and conversation. I’ve learned a lot from all of you.
Peace out.
Jeez, I miss one day, and the whole blog goes to hell.
Anyone else out there? I have to go to work (ugh). Will check back in this afternoon. Have a good day, everybody.
Kevin M re 3  😮 :fustrate:. I have to journey “off” and work a bit, so won’t be back for awhile, but huh? , 😮 , :fustrate:
AIV
I was glad to see Susan Joy and NickiRose, although I could not be “online” this weekend.
There is a caustic humour at work, but like with many things I say I think “The Humour Just Does Not Fly” = Lead Balloon Humour = LBH 😮
:banana::yippee::cool: quietgirl — November 27 Is #1 😎 :yippee::banana:
C-Ya :wink::cool: tea :joe:
Actually, the “live chat” (or whatever you want to call it), unlike the “regular” comments, is much more difficult to figure out who is posting. It’s limited to logged in users, but beyond that, I’d have to look in the database and pore over the server logs to try and figure out who posted what, because the only thing it keeps track of is the time. And I’m not even sure that I could figure it out then. And I don’t even get access to the current day’s log until the next day.
I added that thing in hopes that those who wanted a substitute for realtime chat would use it, and I would quit having to get put in the middle of a whole buncha shit that I really don’t care to get put in the middle of.
That apparently didn’t work. Too bad. One reason I resisted putting it up (actually played around with it a long while back, and dropped it) was because of the basic anonymity aspect. I’ll make it go away. That’s why I resisted the “voicemail” thing, too, though it hasn’t (yet) been a problem).
As for being sucked up to, well, I certainly don’t desire that. I mean, how dumb would that be? I’m pretty much nobody. Actually, I’m less than nobody (and rather content to be that way).
You know, I’m just trying to do the best I can, here. I’m not perfect, and never claimed to be. I’ve never prevented anybody from commenting (with the exception of a certain troll from the old MS blog), nor have I edited what anybody said here.
Do I get sick and tired of the bickering? Sure. Do I basically ignore certain people? Sometimes. Am I channeling Donald Rumsfeld? Could be.
And, believe it or not, I don’t actually read everything here. Shocking, I know. Some days, I spend a lot of time reading here. Others, not so much.
Anyhow, maybe Marc will finally get his site up and have a blog there.
PJSauter, I do not know what you are talking about:?: You are The Best:!: You are Overly Fair. You are “All That And Then Some”. If you have something to say, well EVERYONE has the right of doing so — YOU ESPECIALLY:!:
Do I have to get “mushy”:?:
I have to remake weak flame.
Please, no sucking up.
I have to find the time to reread EVERYTHING:!: Am I being too much a literalist:?: I have no idea what is going on, but have to work for a wee bit. before rereading.:wink: tea:joe:

Woman faces fines for wreath peace sign
Goodmorning everyone….!!
Another beautiful Monday on the blog.
Roxie…sorry you feel like you have to go but you are so offbase and it leads me to think that you really didnt read the nicki/suz show much…nor did you read what I wrote when cnick “called them out” for “exclusionary behavior”…..This thing has gone on far longer than you obviously know and Nicki has been flooding the blog with cut and paste since day 1…endless cut and paste…and even when asked nicely because many of us were on mobiles, would not stop….and concealed his/her identity, asking people who found out not to let anyone know who he/she is…and continues to remain anonymous…except that suz came along and encouraged him/her along….and so the entire blog became the nickisuz show…and even though they were delicately chided, carefully encouraged, people tried to change the subject, they just didnt seem to realize that it was tiresome…a large portion of this blog just scrolled through what they were doing…and often it was pretty embarassing….its been months since I read much of it…and just under a year since I read any of Nicki’s articles (considering that I get alot of Truthout in my inbox, it bothered me that he would copy practically the whole thing to the blog.)
I think that you should go back and look at it before you call any of US exclusionary…or call out anyone as the author….the thing was parody and it was in response to the night before which was directed at ME, primarily, and the rest of us too, in case you didnt notice…and the months and months before that…EVERY NIGHT and half of each day could be summed up in the one parody…just cut and paste over and over….
When NIcki keeps saying that regular Dems and liberals are all assholes, hes talking about me and you! Anyone who didnt vote for Nader and isnt taking to the streets in anarchy is a loser….thats me and you….Ive confronted him about it many times because its tiresome to have someone basically telling you youre an asshole…and he retreats and then comes back and continues. I have asked for reasonable rational conversation about it, as have many on this blog, but Nicki is a petulant child who just wants to throw cereal all over and run away. At some point I realized that this was not based on any real idealism or actual political involvement, but some sort of craziness…and Ive had enough of that in my life.
I have not been anonymous or minced words about this…and even though Nicki has been a little softer since Suz came into his life he still is doing the same thin, but now with a sidekick to make it less blatant. honestly, what is the draw to this site at all if we are all jerks? There is little discourse with most of us…and they have been incredibly to you as well. So, what is the point?
I am sick and tired of the crap…it has nothing to do with incrowd or outcrowd…and I think you have misread this whole thing.
You can easily find Nicki and suz on myspace….if thats your preference then fine….
Leave PJ alone…no one is sucking up to him, but he does do this on his own dime and it is his space. It was his idea and it gave us a place to go when MS left the air. Why should he have to host a place for the nicki and suz show? Why should he be in the position of having to censor anyone.
I had never seen the rulz…but they pretty much cover this crap.
And No I didnt write it…but I wish I did!!
I dont know where sz and nicki have been…or you for that matter…but the listservs where I have been wouldnt have put up with this for a second. PJ could have blocked them right away, but he didnt….hes given them a chance…and they have not stepped up to be part of this community.
Sorry you feel like you have to go….but, Im certainly not begging anyone to stay if you think its Ok to act the way nickirose and susan have for months and months….let them start their own blog…
(I hope someone fowards this to Roxie at myspace…I dont really go there much…Im sure Nicki or Suz can, as I expect that they are lurking anyway….go ahead kids!)
Wow, Andy, isn’t that amazing? It always amazes that peace is a “bad” – or controversial – thing. Especially at this time of year. You know “Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men” (you females are on your own, I guess). Don’t they refer to Jesus Christ as the Prince of Peace? The wingnuts would really flip out if somebody made them take that down.
Good thing we don’t have a homeowners’ association where I live, since we have a big “PEACE” sign in our front window (well, that and we have have dandelions).
I’ve got an association where I live and during th ’04 election they made me take down my Kerry sign. I was mad as hell but I’ve got to live here. I’m waiting for someone to put a cross in their yard, and then I’m hiring an attorney.
Wasn’t there a woman (kid, really) whose husband was in Iraq, and her association made her take down her “Support the Troops” sign? I mean, some of these groups are such control freaks.
Ah, yeah, in Florida.
I hadn’t heard that one. I know of an assoc. around Denver(?) that actually has requirements on what kind of car you can own.
A lot of the rules here are pretty much common sense stuff, no cars on blocks, roof shingles have to be a certain color, yada yada. It’s the free speech stuff that presses my buttons
Hey, as long as I can have my couch up on cinder blocks in the front yard, and burn my garbage in a 55 gallon barrel out back. 😉
HA! That’s what I did, I put all my signs in my car window.
Good Morning :joe: So that Ricky Nose and whatever Soy exchange was a joke? I thought it was them making fun of themselves. Or using alternative names on the chat. I’m so gullible! :rofl2:
Roxie, I really don’t see an “in crowd” or “outcrowd” here. To me, the in crowd are the people that are posting a lot at that time. And that changes according to peoples time and interest in this blog. I missed the day that everyone was arguing about The Nicki Rose/Susan Joy Show because my computer was down. I came in late and decided not to dredge it up again. I don’t know what PJ has to offer that is worth sucking up to on a blog either.(No, you’re not chopped liver, PJ 😉 ) He’s pretty even handed and lassaiz fair about the blog which I like. Though I would roll my eyes 🙄 everytime I scroll past The NR/SJ Show. My only worry about that whole thing was that it would put off new people or lurkers from piping up and saying hi.
re 17. :rofl2:
Hey Krista, last night on Kristins show, someone posting as Real_SJ said that in fact it was them. But I don’t know. I always scrolled past that stuff anyway.
Man, I don’t see how youse guys can live in an ASSociation neighborhood. As soon as someone tells me not to do something, I want to do exactly that. I inherited that gene from my dad, surprisingly enough. I remember years ago, here in Sun City, a guy painted his house black in protest of the ASSociation. I like people like that. Yeah, Andy, I think the free speech thing applies here.
I like to hang out in the front yard, cooling off in a horse trough filled with ice water. Salad days!
Man, Bush sure is staying the hell out of the US since the election, isn’t he? I wish he’d thought of that six years ago.
Wow, a black house out in the desert? That has to get the swamp cooler humpin’.
For me it was simply economics, the only house I could afford was here, and there’s an assoc. and this place was a fixer upper.
And the neighbors stumpin’ :rant1:
I wanna start a Neighborhood Anti- ASSociation.
I think my neighborhood has an ASSociation but they don’t really have much control over a neighborhood where most of the houses are rentals for college students. There are plenty of couches on cinder blocks in the yards here! :yippee: I think that these houses look way more “lived in” than most neighborhoods. :rofl2::tongue:
Mine was a rental, that’s why it’s a fixer upper.
Well, fix that thing up and move to the country! Or to another country. 😆
Ah, then they have the obligatory keg floating in a garbage barrel full of ice (or melted ice) next to the couch.
See, what’s the point of owning your own house if you can’t do with it what you want? You might as well rent. Since I’m a wacky artist, I’m always wanting to do weird things to my house. When I lived in the dome I wanted to paint it like a giant eyeball so that the “Eye in the Sky” helicopters would be watched as they were watching my house.:pup:
when I moved here my granddad had let it run down so much that there were old appliances all over the front of the house and garbage up in the woods (he wouldnt pay for the garbage man…and the tenants were 4 young guys who couldnt scrape together the $1400 per month he charged them…not each, all together)
Anyway, it had 7 layers of roof and was a wreck….only made better by the fact that it was totally overgrown….but in the winter when the leaves fell you could see the whole bloody thing.
The first day here with the uhaul and Will being under 1 year old, we hauled 7000 lbs of garbage to the dump.
…and that was just me, my father, my grand dad and my ex….crazy!
The neighbors across the street had never said anything but they are SO happy that I try to keep the place up….
But I would totally bristle if there were rules…and what would the italians with the statuary gardens who live up the street do?
You know, I was gonna add to that, wooden spool and cinderblock furniture but I think students don’t really use those anymore since they built the IKEA not so far away. Now I see broken IKEA furniture in the alleys and in front of the houses.
Yeah Krista but in my neck of the woods, moving to the country means real estate prices go through the roof.
That’s why I like living in the barrios here, they don’t bug you about your property. And they usually appreciate the weird and colorful. Although, you have to put up with cars on cinderblocks, they revolve. It’s never the same car on the same cinderblocks for more than a month at a time
those guys….Im Still finding panythose and condoms in the woods 12+ years later….and they stiffed him for the rent for the last 2 months and left the place a mess….
Anyway, Im off…have a great day everyone!
PJ…seems like I can get a good player with a screen to play little videos for $129 to $149 for 4 gigs…BUT I can get a really nice 30 gig player on sale at buy.com for $170….a creative zen….
seems like th ekid might lose it on one hand…but on the other, if she doesnt, it would be a really nice thing for her. Do you think those creative zens are good?
I also think thay an ipod will more easily get stolen in the inner city…and also on the bus or in school if she is dumb enough to bring it.
I Love th ebarrio sections there Krista…when Will and I were there last year and he was in his origami convention, all I did was drive around and take pictures of the cool colors and houses….is like a little old style brooklyn in the desert…old ladies with fat graying chihuahuas dressed up in little dresses with hats.
That’s not the country. I guess I should say “wilderness” instead of country. :rofl2: I’m talking about property where you’re going to have to either be off the grid or pay lots of money to get a line out to your place.
The creative zens get pretty good reviews, I think. Some of them don’t have removable batteries, if that’s an issue (I mean, my iRiver doesn’t either, but, well, in the end, everything’s removable). Hopefully you can tell her to keep it in her pocket and not flash it around. That, and don’t use white headphones.
Well Kids, here’s some good real estate news
I was off the grid in Colorado, but I was 22 and in good shape. I don’t think I could do that any more.
My ultimate goal is to be as off-grid as possible. Windmills and PV’s are getting cheaper and more efficient all the time, so maybe I’ll be able to build my earth-sheltered off-grid home before I’m dead.
:cold: It would be a little easier to be off the grid in a warm place. And HEY! Global warming is making our winters warmer and warmer, if you can tolerate the bugs that will continue to breed through the winter, unchecked by a good freeze. :hot::smack:
Damn, I really need to quite trimming my toenails with an exacto knife. Now I’m bleeding all over the place. Good thing I have a roll of duct tape handy.
I keep thinking in those terms PJ. I had some friends that did that in Taos. They lived in an earth ship made of tires. It was very nice.
It was very nice except for the high levels of RADON their property exhibited. 🙄
I think someone needs a pair of toenail clippers in his stocking this year
:joe::joe::joe::joe::crap::eek::shock:
:?:whatever:sheep:le
Yeah, gotta check on that. I have some land that only an idiot would buy, because it’s mostly a very steep hill. So, I want to dig it out, and pore a series of connected domes with skylights and stuff, and an open windowed area facing south, and then backfill it all in. Lots of drainage issues, and of course air quality is a consideration. They stay within a few degrees of 55 all year, so are easy to heat and cool. No roof maintenance. I’d probably try solar hot water heating and passive pumps to heat a rock pit by day, and then pull the heat out at night. Maybe a geothermal heatpump as a back up. All waterless/low water composting toilets. Oh, plans. I have big, big plans. No money, but lots of plans.
Mornin’ Fred.
Sleeping in makes me want to sleep in some more..Seems to be true for everyone one else too.. ZZZZZZ
The gum ball in Singapore was wondering what happened..talk about being out of touch ..
The problem I’ve been having is that I just can’t sleep. Yet I’m always tired. No matter how late I stay up, I still wake up early. It’s making me very grumpy (and I’m kind of a grumpy old fart to begin with, so it aint pretty).
So was it just that brief satirical exchange that set Nicki off or was there more to it outside the blog ..some how…..I mean liberals are notorious for circling the wagons and then shooting at each other .. not necessarily on the same subject either .
Yes, plans, but do you have drawings too, PJ? :tinfoil:
Being off line in Colorado means you have to be out on the plains some place so orienting your house or solar panels isn’t so effected by the landscape.
People even in the city burn a lot of firewood or pellets to heat and that causes air pollution..
Propane seems to be the energy source of choice and thats more expensive than natural gas is .
Back in the late 70’s a lot of people put passive solar on their houses to heat water but most of that proved to user unfriendly to keep maintained .so you see very little of that around today
When I was in Fry’s electronics the other day, they had a whole isle of small solar charging products.
Most of the things you find at Fry’s or Radio Shack still seem to be for the experimenter .. The school district uses solar panels to charge the batteries for there school zone warning flashers .
Most solar seems to be oriented toward rather low power or duty cycle applications..
I know someone with a solar assisted house ( it was originally supposed to be a totally solar powered house with generator back up) out in the toolies .. He comments a lot about the price of diesel fuel going up ..
Yes, they look like cheesy products but they get people thinking in those terms which will lead to better products.
can’t finish reading all the posts right now, but guess I’d like to add something re: Roxie’s post.
As individual posters, I had no problem with either NR or SJ. (In fact, I miss SJ.) I mostly ignored NR’s cut & paste posts. I did learn some things from him, though. BUT, when the subject came up about NR & SJ and their personal conversations, I added that I thought they were exclusionary in their postings together and that a more appropriate forum for their very personal posts would be on an IM service. I thought that comment was in the spirit that this is a blog for all of us.
My comment last night was simply that I thought (and hoped!) that NR & SJ did not take things so seriously and I surmised that they themselves had written the satire and I thought it very funny. What’s hurtful about saying that?
I think people on this blog are very kind and I don’t take their comments in a mean spirit at all.
Hope that clarifies things at my end. I enjoyed your posts and wish you well!
Its been a while since I visited Home Depot ..I wonder if they have solar add on systems for sale
Their web sites seems to lead you to other web sites and consulting services .
.. There are several web sites advertising solar systems but they don’t give you much of an idea of the costs involved .
I’ve not seen much at Home Depot as far as solar products. Not that I’ve been down the water heater isle lately, but, I haven’t noticed anything like that there and solar products usually catch my eye. Home Depot is a Rethug company so that could explain it.
Here’s a fun place to look at alternative energy products, and they have some good info.
Oh, man, Maron is guest hosting for Seder on Friday!
Yay! Marc is hosting Sam’s show on Friday!!!!!
:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:
yay….from the car…..
Oh man. I saw the beginnings of the last couple of posts, and thought you guys were saying Marc filled in for Sam TODAY! Whew, not until Friday. Anticipation.
I wonder if he knows when the Comedy Central special will air, or when his Letterman appearance will be. Soon, I hope.
I need to go back and read Sunday’s thread. Sounds like I missed some stuff.
Hey Melina, I liked your comments earlier about a child throwing cereal. Did Will have any favorite brands? I would think Cheerios would be the most aerodynamic, since the hole would cut back on wind resistance. 🙂
Smith, a charter school for about 200 sixth- through eighth-graders, is the only public school in Massachusetts known to teach male and female students separately. The academy’s leaders hope they will learn more by being taught in different classrooms, but so far test scores have not shown a significant advantage.
http://tinyurl.com/yct77g
I don’t get the controversy either, then again, I’m so often in “lurk and skim” mode that I must miss it all.
Thanks for the alternative energy link, PJ. Looking at the price of the house we want, we may need to DIY.
real goods and this site are good, i believe.
i’ve never understood folks who complain about their association AFTER they buy knowing there are covenants running with their land. Sometimes you want to buy in an association to help protect your property values (expensive home in the middle of undevelopped areas or crappy areas). That peace sign controversy, however, is ridiculous.
(man, i’ve had to edit a bunch…maybe i shouldn’t post much today.
We have a 200 year old house for which fixer-upper was a euphemism. It didn’t even have heat. But it’s on the Brooklyn waterfront in a neighborhood, Red Hook, where the neighbors were cool. Of course the City viewed us as the perfect place for any project no other neighborhood wanted.
For 12 years we fought off garbage dumps and sludge plants. We got pretty good at it too. Eventually, the neighborhood attracted more people and more housing.
We’re no longer fighting noxious uses and there is still a “live and let live” ethic around here. But I can see the writing on the wall. In fact I can see the wall and it’s gentrifying along with everything else.
Where once the pink Twinkie was king, we have a fancy supermarket. The vacant lots are sprouting houses and the new neighbors hire renovators and don’t even own a hammer.
So far, we all seem to get along. We shall see.
Well, I see the little box in the corner is gone. Thanks for giving it a shot, PJ (great big suckin’ sound). I thought it probably needed to go since it was not generating much use until someone lit it up yesterday. Unfortunately for those who missed the Chat Box, there was a pretty funny dead on parody of the goings on the night before between NickiRose and Susan Joy. If you did not see it, you can’t really comment on it but I did not think it was personal unless the truth hurts. Having read the rulz now I also would like to say “Fuck ’em if they can’t take a joke” but without the appropriate emo they might not realize that I am saying it in a joking way.
With all due respect to Roxie (and Nicki and Susan) I think that most of the conversation a week ago of NR and SJ was very measured, constructive and soft. When it became a more heated, it was ususally because NR provoked it. Rather than even beginning to consider the several carefully stated suggestions from others here, he just jumped into a defensive persecuted attack mode. Then they disappeared for almost a week. During the week, a few people posted that they were missed and asked that they return. A person or two chided people here like Cnick and me for driving them away. I felt badly because I never had any intention of excluding anyone and was merely suggesting that they be a little more considerate of the blog and its members. I do not recall anyone and especially PJ telling them to leave. When they resumed the ‘show’ on Saturday night.several folks welcomed them back. It was pretty dead otherwise.
Yesterday, I do not recall any negative comments about their return at first. The humor in the chat box was just that and not negative as I read it. Then NR checked in and he was just spoiling for a fight and finally even aroused the the usually unflappable Master of this domain (GBSS). Even then, he did not ask or tell them to leave nor were they banned. I suspect that if they and others disappear it will be on their own volition and that will be too bad.
Remember, cheerios are just a Spinal Tap scale model of hard bagels.
Exotic animals captured in the wild are streaming across the U.S. border by the millions with little or no screening for disease, leaving Americans vulnerable to a virulent outbreak that could rival a terrorist act.
Demand for such wildlife is booming as parents try to get their kids the latest pets fancied by Hollywood stars and zoos and research scientists seek to fill their cages.

NEW YORK – Wall Street suffered a sharp pullback Monday as investors returned from the Thanksgiving weekend with questions about the strength of the retail sector following a rare sales decline at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. The Dow Jones industrials fell 150 points.
Investors were uneasy after news that Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, suffered a 0.1 percent drop in same-store sales, those from stores open at least a year. Same-store sales are the industry standard for assessing a retailer’s strength, and while retail sales overall were strong last weekend, Wal-Mart’s deficit raised concerns about the strength of consumer spending during the holiday season.
“There is now significant concern that the holiday retail season is going to underperform,” said Gregory Miller, chief economist at SunTrust Banks. “Traffic doesn’t necessarily translate into profits,” he said, referring to reports of crowded stores over the weekend.

Thats the way it seemed to be at the Mall on Sunday a lot of people looking but not many in the checkout lines 😮
The high-end stores are apparently doing very well. Nordstroms has been able to raise prices. So, I guess, Bushanomics is doing just what it set out to do – make the rich, richer and the poor poorer. Bush has his legacy.
I was in Sears and Kmart and the places in between ..Most of the retailers on the mall sell clothes it would seem. We have several vacant store fronts on the Mall this year.
West must prepare for Chinese, Indian dominance: Wolfensohn
SYDNEY (AFP)
– Western nations must prepare for a future dominated by China and India, whose rapid economic rise will soon fundamentally alter the balance of power, former World Bank chief James Wolfensohn has warned.
Wealthy countries were failing to understand the impact of the invevitable growth of the two Asian powerhouses, Wolfensohn said in the 2006 Wallace Wurth Memorial Lecture at the University of New South Wales at the weekend.
“It’s a world that is going to be in the hands of these countries which we now call developing,” said Australian-born Wolfensohn, who held the top job at the global development bank for a decade until last year.
Rich nations needed to try to capitalise on the inevitable emergence of what would become the engine of the world’s economic activity before it was too late, he said.

so is walmart lowering prices…..? mommy need some electronoics…chinese children be damned…..
Walmart already had some pre season sales ..before Black Friday
All they sell is Chinese Junk .. cheap Chinese junk however.:bf:

I agree, Fred. walmart’s stuff is junk.
Fewer consumers turned out for the post-Thanksgiving shopping bonanza this year, but they spent more than last year as they stocked their carts with expensive electronics, according to a retail trade group.

Just a few thoughts from the peanut gallery, I read this blog pretty much everyday and post somewhat rarely. I love most of the posts and people here and that’s why I read it. The holiday posts about the stranded horses and the photos of the animals in the womb are links I never would have found on my own, but for many of the interesting people here. When I found the blog, I was posting and really enjoying the company, but I found that when certain people would show up many of the others would leave, including myself. My perception was that it was due to a passive aggressive element that would arise. Nikki, is was asked of you many times to just post a link, instead of the ENTIRE ARTICLE. Actually, it was not even the entire article. It was that which you find relevant and tailored to your political agenda……… whatever that is. Nikki, it was asked and implied so many times to stop the paste jobs and you refuse to listen. Many love this blog so much they stay “in touch” on cellphones and then you force them to pay for the download and endlessly scroll past stuff they have already seen or simply are not interested in. Nikki, how about a little respect and consideration for others? This is a family and families have fights (part of blogging entertainment too!) I am sure most here can move past this, but it takes willing participants. I agree with cnick, it is the greatest blog on the net, lets not ruin one of the good things in the world. Roxie, there is no “in” or “out” crowd, its just a family fight, please do not get too upset over this, I enjoy your presence. Nikki, I am happy you and Susan Joy are such good friends, is it really too much to ask that you have your personal conversations on the side like everyone else? Sometimes your personal conversations become very exclusionary and are really quite rude to others here, if you ever even think of the feelings of others here.
I think this has been touched on here before but just in case, I heard something about this from Maddow recently.

Chimpanzees may be our closest biological relatives, but male chimps appear to differ from male humans in one striking way — they clearly prefer older females, according to new research.
Martin Muller of Boston University and his colleagues analyzed detailed data collected about the behavior patterns of chimps living in the Kibale National Park in Uganda from 1996 to 2003.
Researchers say humpback whales have a type of brain cell also found in humans.

In contrast to humans, the researchers found, male chimps find older females more desirable, approaching them more often to mate, fighting more with other males over them and mating with them far more frequently than with younger females. That is true even for higher-ranking male chimps, which have more choice of mates. The findings confirm the earlier results of other researchers.
“Multiple lines of evidence indicate that unlike humans, female chimpanzees become more sexually attractive with age,” the researchers report in the Nov. 21 issue of the journal Current Biology. “This study demonstrates that male chimpanzees do not merely disdain young females, but actively prefer older mothers to younger mothers.”
The researchers attributed the difference to a combination of factors. Humans tend to form long-term bonds, which favor a younger female mate to maximize the chances of mating again. Chimps, in contrast, are promiscuous. In addition, female chimps are fertile throughout their lives, enabling them to have offspring even late in life.
Maybe PJ can start a new blog and call it “Evening Secessionists”.
who says that we dont become more desiranble with age?……we ..might not have young eggs but we know what we want….sometimes anyway….
Sorry about the poor editing. Here’s a correctly edited version

Boston Legal speech with links
Alan Shore (James Spader) from Boston Legal gives one of those great monologues that we all wished would be said by somebody other than a great actor. In the episode “Stick it,” Alan Shore’s secretary, Melissa (Marisa Coughlan), is arrested for tax evasion, he
takes on the case of this outspoken girl who says her late, patriotic grandfather would be proud of her for challenging the government.

Shore: At a presidential rally, parade or appearance. If you have on a supportive t-shirt you can be there. If you’re wearing or carrying something in protest, you can be removed, This in the United States of America.- This in the United States of America! Is Melissa Hughes the only one embarrassed?
emailer CS: “James Spader’s character gives such a fiery and passionate speech about the lies, mistruths and unethical behavior of this Administration that it made me jump from the couch and yell triumphantly at my TV. Covered everything from lies on WMD, to torture, Abu Ghirab, Guantanamo, and, most importantly, illegal wiretapping”
PJ, I don’t post here that often, but I really appreciate knowing that this blog is here, and that you’ve kept it up all this time. I don’t know what happened, I’d have to go back and look, but you know, these things happen with any group of people.
Sometimes I stay away because the obsession with Israel just bothers me. But you’re doing a wonderful thing here….I just hope everyone appreciates you.

DENVER – Colorado is bracing for the coldest air so far this season as an arctic front moves in this week.
9NEWS Chief Meteorologist Kathy Sabine says there is a WINTER STORM WARNING in effect from 6 a.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday for the mountains of western Colorado, where heavy snow and strong winds are possible.
Kathy says one to two feet of snow may fall in the mountains by late Tuesday, bringing fresh powder to the ski resorts.
Temperatures will dip to the single digits in the metro area overnight on Wednesday and Thursday, Kathy says.
High temperatures in Denver on Wednesday and Thursday will only reach the teens to low 20s, according to Kathy.
Kathy says there is a possibility of snow in the metro area on Tuesday and Wednesday which could cause some problems with the Wednesday morning commute.

Gives you folks east of here something to look forward to.
Seanie meant hopefully AAR will come back to Sirius, not that AAR is officially dead.

U.S. Embassy Asks Bush Twins to Leave Country
Amid a growing barrage of front-page headlines, U.S. embassy officials “strongly suggested” President Bush’s twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara Bush, cut short their trip to Buenos Aires because of security issues, U.S. diplomatic and security sources tell ABC News.
Snip
Stories of the twins’ visit took on wild proportions in the Argentinean press. One tabloid headline had the young women running nude in the hallway of their hotel, a report the hotel staff denied to ABC News.
snip
But to the dismay and anger of some U.S. embassy and security staff, the girls stayed on.

How about Afternoon Siesta?
Doesn’t Kenworth or Peterbuilt make a two bedroom three bath sleeper cab ??? Some of those rigs look like the cab is twenty feet long:eek:
After Noon Siesta ..I think that was the in thing at work today ..For all practical purposes we had a five day weekend.:doh:
Hey, I am from WVa,, twice seceded, formed by secession from a secessionist state.
I could collapse into a dismal swamp of very bad puns at this point but people don’t always like that. Besides, I just spent 90 minutes clearing brush in my back yard and I am thinking of forming an exploratory committee. Now if I can just find some naked twins and a Stepford wife for the family shot.
they can get fairly big not that i plan on getting my own truck…… and those ones are very expensive!
I think I may be content with an AirStream.
Those over the road rigs are really expensive ..I don’t see how many independents make ends meet if they have a mortgage on a house and what amounts to one on their truck too.
In the late 60’s the typical tractor was non air conditioned , poorly insulated , the heater seldom worked and the high powered ones had a 600 CID in line 6 with no turbo charger .and they were 80 grand then .

Jordan King Warns on Mideast Civil Wars
WASHINGTON (AP) — Jordan’s King Abdullah said Sunday the problems in the Middle East go beyond the war in Iraq and that much of the region soon could become engulfed in violence unless the central issues are addressed quickly.
“We could possibly imagine going into 2007 and having three civil wars on our hands,” he said, citing conflicts in Iraq, Lebanon and the decades-long strife between the Palestinians and Israelis.
“Therefore, it is time that we really take a strong step forward as part of the international community and make sure we avert the Middle East from a tremendous crisis that I fear, and I see could possibly happen in 2007,” he said.
Speaking on ABC’s “This Week,” Abdullah said he remained hopeful a summit he will host this week in Amman with President Bush and the Iraqi prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, will somehow lower the sectarian violence that threatens to push Iraq into all-out civil war.
“We hope there will be something dramatic. The challenges, obviously, in front of both of them are immense,” the king said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Humpback whales have a type of brain cell seen only in humans, the great apes, and other cetaceans such as dolphins, U.S. researchers reported on Monday.
If I can find my old issues of Undercurrent there’s an interesting article about a divers encounter with an Orca off the coast of NZ that convinced me they are self aware and intelligent.
“Goodbye cruel blog” wrote Roxieseattle! Okay . . . now for my tease? If you wanna know what I think about this . . . tune in to my Tuesday podcast. I’ll say something about it then.
Hi Andy and everyone!!!

Gun background check system crashes
WASHINGTON – An FBI computer system that quickly screens gun buyers’ backgrounds for criminal activity crashed several times over the past two days, officials said Monday.
At times, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System was on the blink for up to a half-hour on Sunday and Monday — potentially allowing buyers to purchase firearms without being screened.
The computer crash was blamed on a technical glitch that was being worked on Monday evening, said FBI spokesman Paul Bresson. “It’s a performance issue that we’ve never encountered before,” he said
It was unclear when the glitch would be fixed.

Secret santa is when people…
It would be the same as in real life… just with us bloggers.
I don’t think that I need to explain what a secret santa is… hopefully not.
The shows are available to be streamed or downloaded @ http://www.twentyfour.podomatic.com
I have no comment on whether or not me podcasting those shows are legal or illegal…. it just happens.
But how do we exchange presents?
we would have to reveal our addresses and then everyone could google earth everyone.
PG, Are they all there? I only see some of them. Maybe there is a secret handshake or something?
I see you on the satellite! 😯
Sue P – While Redhook is attracking the rich why don’t you sell your 200 year home and move North, closer to your daughter, grand daughter and nice son in law?? Perhaps they’ll move closer to the hippies and you can all be happy:banana:
(i love the banana)
A 200 year old house! Wow. That doesn’t even exist here.
I just got a letter from Jimmy Carter asking me to help the poor.
I have a friend who has a 300+ year old house in upstate NY where Millard Fillmore used to hang out. I used to hang out at the Fillmore East.
I miss my seattle sister 🙁 😥
Hey everyone!…wcv, yeah I was reading on my new Motorola Q while driving…careening actually…through the country…and listening to the podcast of Nick’s live show, which was very good (if I do say so myself, though I wish I would have shut up a little more….) I could actually stand my own voice this itme, so maybe Ill start to get used to get used to it.
OhhhhNick….I am waiting for the podcast….enquiring minds want to know what you think exactly about Goodbye Cruel Blog!
I have been on the road nonstop today and had to work with Ben this afternoon…just tired and feelign like Im getting sick in the lung….

Krista- I got that letter too!! We must both be on Jimmy’s mailing list….I had to say sorry to JImmy right now because I am helping my very own poor here in my own downtown….but IM gonna try in January…the thing is that Americares and Smile Train get me at the same time and the little cleft child tugs a little harder than than Jimmy and Rosylin’s sweet card…signed personally no less! (autopen printing press…but anyway…)
it’s freakin’ snowing in Seattle :cold::knit2::smack:
Yeah, I got barraged in the mail with requests for donations for this and that. I guess a big push goes out right after T-giving while you’re in the giving mood.
Oh crap! Sblue! You guys don’t know how to drive in snow! What are you going to do? 🙂 😉
Seattle doesn’t get snow much at all ,does it? I hope we get some of that cold air. Mosquitos at Thanksgiving is ridiculous, even here.
Sue P – I hear New Palz, NY is lovely and no re-pug-licans.
Blogger is my daughter who made the mistake of leaving NYC for parts North. She did this in a quest for grass (the kind one mows) and found that Republicans where part of the ground cover. Now she wants me to move closer.
I agree she should be closer and I’m sure she’ll enjoy being closer to the City as well.
:paranoid:
Well…it just took me an hour to go 3 miles…strange corn snow…very icy. arrgh!
Come to Arizona, Sblue. Where the palm trees sway, in the blue sky all day! Sunny, warm Phoenix, Arizona! 😉
come to balmy CT blue, where its 66 degrees and sunny every day…we’re expecting a dry warm week…but I think/hope that Fred is blowing some nice coldness and snow our way…I have to get some wear out of my new coat!!
I don’t get to wear any of my coats anymore. I haven’t even gotten out sweaters yet and I may not.
Sue P – like you said the rich are getting richer thanks to bushnomics. Guess where they’re moving to next? That’s right your neighborhood. Do you honestly think that they are going to let you mere middle class and poor have the last water front property in Brooklyn? Oh they may let you keep your tiny 200 year old fixer upper, but they will make sure to build those sky rises right next door. Oh yeah, and those rich that just got richer, guess who they are voting for?
New Paltz is jammed pack with nice Dems.
Sue P – Arizona sounds very lovely. Arctic Blast heading our way.
The best part about New Paltz is being just across the river from Poughkeepsie.
Every day, tens of thousands of children around the world wake up behind bars. Many of them will have committed no offence. BBC investigates children’s rights in justice systems around the world.
Part Two: United States
Well, if Sue is lucky the landmarks have been around and saved as many old buildings as possible. My Mom’s house is a historic landmark in Cobble Hill and it has gentrified incredibly…but because of the landmarks commission, alot of the old places have been saved from development….we had less open lots in my old neighborhood because they had developed it 100 years ago for the dockworkers with mews’ and beautiful little row houses….these places are fantastic and I believe that Sue’s neighborhood still has the old cobblestones in the street in places….fantastic…
But you cant stop gentrification for the most part. In my neighborhood it has allowed alot of the old timers who lived through the bad old days of lots of crime, drugs, and gangs (my Mom for one) to retire with an income via renting it out…or to just sell and retire away from the old place for good. These neighborhoods just have to require some affordable housing from all builders…but then, I guess that regulation is not what its all about…thats actually Reaganomics not Bushonomics…..
Franken’s farewell sign off today with Norm Ornstein was “See you next Monday, I hope.”.
Wonder what that means?
Last?
Of course now that Bush can no longer run………….

he keeps saying that….I expect that they have a few more weeks now…but Al is going away. I just wish that they would have someone fill in for him rather than do reruns….its so sad…though I havent listened in days and my computer is dark now so I dont even know whats gonna happen to my itunes…I hope I saved it in my alternate HD…think I did….so I should be able to drop my music folder into another computer and itunes will pick it right up…I hope…
OK…nite…nite…
maybe Im last…?
