Not much time, so this’ll have to be a quickie.
On Press the Meat, Timmy Potatohead hosts consigliere della sicurezza nazionale, Stephen Hadley, who will tell us how, when he wrote that Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki was a loser, he meant it in a nice way. Then it’s the Armed Services Committee’s John Warner and Carl Levin, on to tell us what’s worse – a recycled CIA hack, or Rummy staying on the job. Plus, it’s Jimmy Carter on to tell us what great job dubya’s been doing, and to talk about his new book, “Palestine Peace Not Apartheid.”
On Faze the Nation, it’s an all Republican day, as Bush Buddy Bobby Scheiffer trots out Stephen Hadley again, plus Republican Senators Chuck Hagel and Joe Lieberman.
On Fux News Sunday, Fuxface Chrissy Wallace hosts li’l Lindsey Graham, and Seator MBNA, Joe Biden. Plus, an “exclusive” with Justice Stephen Breyer.
Over on the Goebbels network, well, this must be Stephen Hadley, I guess. Plus George Snufalufagus thosts Evan Bayh and Tom Vilsack, so discuss why they’re trailing so badly in the Morning Seditonists poll,
and at the roundtable, it’s George :jerk: Will, Martha Raddatz, and David Corn. Plus, Richard Dreyfuss will be on to see if he can possible be more annoying on This Weak than he was on Bill Maher a couple of weeks ago.
As for CNN, who really cares?
Later, on 60 Minutes, Bob Simon speaks with a Rwandan genocide survivor, Lesley Stahl talks to Netflix founder Reed Hastings, and, well, Andy Rooney will probably whine about something or other.
Second to last episode for this season of The Wire. Damn, these HBO shows go too fast.
Oh, and Happy Birthday to my sister, for whom I didn’t get a card, now that I think about it. Oh well, at her age, it’s probably best to just forget about it.

Conservative media site claims Bush will seek funding of orbital anti-missile satellites
A story on a conservative media site is claiming that the Bush Administration will ask Congress to fund development of an “orbital battle station,” aimed at destroying missiles launched against the United States.
The article, published by Pajamas Media, attacks Democrats’ opposition to an missile defense system and alleges that such orbital ‘stations’ would actually be satellites carrying 40 to 50 small “kill vehicles” that would attack enemy missiles during their initial ascent.

NY Cracks Down on Illegal Mystery Meats
NEW YORK (AP) – When a food safety inspector walked into a market in Queens, he noticed the store had an interesting special posted on its front window: 12 beefy armadillos. In Brooklyn, inspectors found 15 pounds of iguana meat at a West Indian market and 200 pounds of cow lungs for sale at another market. At a West African grocery in Manhattan, the store was selling smoked rodent meat from a refrigerated display case. An inspector quickly seized a couple pounds of it.
All of it was headed for the dinner table. All of it was also illegal.

Military Radio Signal Jams Garage Doors
Dec 2, 2:12 PM (ET)
By ROBERT WELLER
DENVER (AP) – What do remote-control garage door openers have to do with national security? A secretive Air Force facility in Colorado Springs tested a radio frequency this past week that it would use to communicate with first responders in the event of a homeland security threat. But the frequency also controls an estimated 50 million garage door openers, and hundreds of residents in the area found that theirs had suddenly stopped working.
“It would have been nice not to have to get out of the car and open the door manually,” said Dewey Rinehard, pointing out that the outage happened during the first cold snap of the year, with lows in the teens.
Capt. Tracy Giles of the 21st Space Wing said Air Force officials were trying to figure out how to resolve the problem of their signal overpowering garage door remotes.

Corporate America is not ready for Microsoft’s new Windows Vista, according to a new study by Softchoice, a provider of technology products and services.
The study, which will be released in the coming week, shows that the majority of PCs in use today in North American organizations are not equipped to handle Vista’s enhanced requirements.
The study was conducted using inventory data representing 112,000 PCs from more than 472 organizations.

Saudis And Iran Prepare To Do Battle Over Corpse Of Iraq
The gulf’s two military powers, Sunni-Muslim Saudi Arabia and Shia Iran, are lining up behind their warring
religious brethren in Iraq in a potentially explosive showdown, as expectations grow in both countries that
America is preparing to pull out its troops.
The Saudis are understood to be considering providing Sunni military leaders with funding, logistical support
and even arms, as Iran already does for Shia militia in iraq.

Parks see spread of ‘nature deficit disorder’
(snip)
Visits are down at almost all national parks, even at Yosemite, notorious for summertime crowds and traffic jams. Meanwhile, most of the 390 properties in the park system are begging for business.
(snip)
(snip)
A Nature Conservancy study funded by the National Science Foundation and released last July concluded the drop in national park visits was connected to the popularity of video games, hand-held devices, the Internet, and other electronic media.
Author Richard Louv writes of a “nature deficit disorder” and suggests parental fears about kidnapping and crime are keeping kids off neighborhood streets and out of parks.
“We’re talking about a generation that’s being raised under virtual house arrest,” said Louv, whose 2005 book, “Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder,” is being used as a study guide at some national parks.

War Widow Dedicates Wiccan Plaque Symbol
By MARTIN GRIFFITH (Associated Press Writer)
From Associated Press
December 03, 2006 2:10 AM EST
RENO, Nev. – The widow of a soldier killed in Afghanistan saw a Wiccan symbol placed on a memorial plaque for her husband Saturday, after fighting the federal government for more than a year over the emblem.
Roberta Stewart, widow of Sgt. Patrick Stewart, and Wiccan leaders said it was the first government-issued memorial plaque with a Wiccan pentacle – a five-pointed star enclosed in a circle. More than 50 friends and family dedicated the plaque at Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery, about 30 miles east of Reno.
– snip –
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs recognizes more than 30 symbols, including more than a dozen variations of the Christian cross and the atomic whirl used by atheists, but not the pentacle.
– snip –
Last month, Americans United for Separation of Church and State sued the VA on behalf of Stewart and others for its refusal to include the Wiccan emblem. “Our people are on the front line in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and it’s not right they’re not getting equal treatment,” said the Rev. Selena Fox, one of the Wiccan organizers of the event.

IT turns out we’ve been reading the wrong Bob Woodward book to understand what’s going on with President Bush. The text we should be consulting instead is “The Final Days,” the Woodward-Bernstein account of Richard Nixon talking to the portraits on the White House walls while Watergate demolished his presidency. As Mr. Bush has ricocheted from Vietnam to Latvia to Jordan in recent weeks, we’ve witnessed the troubling behavior of a president who isn’t merely in a state of denial but is completely untethered from reality. It’s not that he can’t handle the truth about Iraq. He doesn’t know what the truth is.

Cultural conservatives, led by CNN’s Glenn Beck, Fox News’ Neil Cavuto, and syndicated talk-show host Michael Medved, have all criticized Happy Feet, the new Warner Bros. animated movie about Mumble, the tap-dancing penguin, because they say the movie is laced with liberal overtones and tries to “indoctrinate” children. hey all…I am SO tired today but I guess I have to go down to the city to see grandpa and put his vacume cleaner together….and bring the stew and turkey soup I cooked…oh and the applesauce from the last fo the farm apples. I’m thinking of not joining the farm group again…was just so busy this year and as much as I like the idea and the produce, it was too hard to go there at a certain time every week….I also wasnt so wild about the people in the group. It seems like maybe Ill have more of an impact if I buy organic and local from the big market to encourage them to carry it .
My 2+ year old puppy angelina is having many, many days laterly Dru….she was raised in a cage in a puppy store so is very puppyish. She has incredible bursts of energy and is into everything…but then, she is a boston, so is very intelligent and…t-r-o-u-b-l-e is her middle name….
I guess Lola was a bit like this…
But a few days ago…Angelina hates this vacume; a Kirby that is pretty old but was expensive at the time and is sort of loud…..I have to put her in her cage to vacume (which I do alot because of birds etc…) So she somehoe got out of the cage and came frantically and ran/jumped halfway across the room and landed on the vacume tube teeth first. Well I grabbed her and she truned and bit me…BIT ME!!…while screeching at the vacume….I screwmed an, bleeding (though it wasnt all that bay really, but I dont expect that anyone would dare bite me besides a baby bird) so I threw her back and she can runnin again before I could even shut the thing off.. but this time she came runnig at ME and jumped and clenched on my wrist like a freakin pit bull!….I slugged her and she fell away and then I got her in her cage. This left me with a couple of holes in my thumb and a bruise and scratches on my wrist. She didnt really break the skin on the wrist but it wasnt for lack of trying.
Meantime, the little girls is perfectly behaved, sittin and looking cute; Will’s favorite dog and all cuddly….But when the bird jumped to the floor yesterday and I yelled at her to leave it, she didnt listen so I went over and struck out to push her away and she snapped at me….!!!!!
Now Im back to the leave it exercise….and its not even that she is such a bird dog, but that she is having FUN….its all so much fun for her and i I get her in a bad/crazy puppy energy state she treats me like one of the other dogs.
I pin her on her back when she is not listening …
I think that she is doing the terrier terrible twos….
And, Kitty bit me last night because she was trying to kill my new baby lovebird….

Hello everyone,
I woke with a bad headache. No it wasn’t a hangover. I rarely drink. I stayed up to late last night over at Peter’s. So my body requires at least 6 hours of sleep. Since we’ve gone to the “fall back” position for the Winter months the sun rises early. I cannot sleep when the light of the sun hits my eyes. Thus, not enough sleep = headache. I’m better now after driving to Walmart this morning and picking up a bottle of Aleve. That drug works wonders. I also got my hair cut while out. Now I feel like a human being. It’s nice and sunny here in Birmingham. Currently 60 degrees. Doesn’t feel much like Winter out. N e way, I just wanted to check in. Talk with you all later.
BTW, I discovered my problem in broadcasting the show yesterday. The IP was wrong in the port mapping setting in the router. I donno how that happened. Sorry for anyone who wanted to listen to the live broadcast but couldn’t. The podcast of the show is up on my site, http://nickthomas.org. I won’t be doing a show next Saturday. Company Christmas Party conflict. But I’d like to thank PJ, Druid and Vernon for joining me live on skype yesterday. N e way, hope everyone has a nice day.
OK I got the thing up on my blog…damn if I didnt lose a whole bunch of time by saving the little movie in the wrong format and having to go back and do it again…and check out frank rich…and a bit about Marc and his tragic possum.
Gotta get Ben home….here comes the google crawler…ahhhhhhhh…..
Hey Nick…maybe you could do it sunday instead…I was just listening to it…really fun…wish I had been there…
Vern how did the salad turn out?
Very nicely, Melina. I think you can hear me preparing the cauliflower on the podcast. I think it will be my holiday potluck contribution this season.
minus the anchovies…? Is it like ceasar anchovies or do they make a more prominent appearance?
you may have to post that recipe….

The anchovies kind of disappear if you wish like a ceasar. I mashed them in a paste to start with. Here is the link to the recipe. http://tinyurl.com/ujrqz
Rather than chop everything up and I pulsed it in the blender put tried to leave it with a little consistency rather than emulsified. You can definitely skip the salt.

Druid,
I have a friend who makes beads and is doing a trunk show up your way in a week or two. http://tinyurl.com/y4ubtd
Let me know if you have any interest in checking it out.
No, I am not currently streaming these podcasts. I just thought it might be a cool idea. A way to expose ppl out there to podcasts they would not otherwise be aware of. I’d have to get the permission of the authors before I’d broadcast their shows. I don’t think I’d have any trouble doing that with these podcasters. And once you have a podcast it would be cool to include you in the mix to. If you wanted that is.
Sort of like develop a free thinking network of our own.
You were great on the podcast Druid. I think ppl like hearing the bloggers here. You should be podcasting too. Now that you have that headset you really have no excuses. Do you?
I do not have the bandwidth to make much a dent into the market. But if you look at some of the startups like YouTube, Google and Yahoo there really is no reason that something like this wouldn’t work to. I doubt I’d know how to navigate some such startup to success. Just a idea. Perhaps one who’s time will never come?
I guess everyone has gone to Sunday worship services!

Mideast allies near a state of panic
U.S. leaders’ visits to the region reap only warnings and worry.
By Paul Richter, Times Staff Writer
December 3, 2006
WASHINGTON — President Bush and his top advisors fanned out across the troubled Middle East …
But instead of flaunting stronger ties and steadfast American influence, the president’s journey found friends both old and new near a state of panic. Mideast leaders expressed soaring concern over upheavals across the region that the United States helped ignite through its invasion of Iraq and push for democracy — and fear that the Bush administration may make things worse.
President Bush’s summit in Jordan with the Iraqi prime minister proved an awkward encounter that deepened doubts about the relationship. Vice President Dick Cheney’s stop in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, yielded a blunt warning from the kingdom’s leaders. And Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s swing through the West Bank and Israel, intended to build Arab support by showing a new U.S. push for peace, found little to work with.
In all, visits designed to show the American team in charge ended instead in diplomatic embarrassment and disappointment, with U.S. leaders rebuked and lectured by Arab counterparts. The trips demonstrated that U.S. allies in the region were struggling to understand what to make of the difficult relationship, and to figure whether, with a new Democratic majority taking over Congress, Bush even had control over his nation’s Mideast policy

I saw a thing on TV the other day about how DH has jumped the shark…especially SINCE Kyle joined the cast…or since he married Bree, anyway. I had to stop taping it because it seemed to be getting a little out there and silly….and life is just too short…But I know tons of people who are addicted to it. I much prefer a couple of the new shows like The 9, and the Six Degrees one….just plain drama with good actors and a little twist.
:fire::fire::fire::fire::fire:
I’l be on the air in 6 minutes…
so you might as well go there NOW
Melina, Hubby and I also — long distance, really enjoy Boston Legal. I must confess I only recently started watching DH and BL (then got him into it:banana: — now he is into more than me TeeHee) But my only real thrilll is SF/FI FAN … I would watch on SCI FI FAN Channels, but I purposely will not get cable — yet 🙁 . (only what is on locally (thus only a wee bit)).
