Well, this is the last Wednesday I’ll have to head up to campus for a while. The bad news is I have to get three final projects put together – the first one being due on Friday. At midnight, I hope. Have I mentioned today how much I hate this stuff? Oh well, better get going. See ya.
Because it was there.
And apparently only am I.
Guess I will go work on the arrogance.

I just got a junk mail that had a letter in it from Al Franken stating that he is scheduled to move back to Minneapolis in January…huh?…it was some fund raising thing on behalf of…?…I want to say a union….But Will shredded it before I could figure it out…
Comment by Melina — December 5, 2006 @ 8:49 pm
Hi Melina. I got the same letter a few days ago, and was as surprised as you to learn that Al is moving back to Minneapolis.
The letter also mentioned a new show on AAR called Morning Sedition that might be worth checking out. It features a British woman named Sue Ellicott that everyone seems to like. 🙂
Obviously these folks need to update their database, if not their mailing list.
Sorry to hear you’re under the weather. Hope you’re feeling better before the Cancun trip comes up.

Pelosi to grant severance packages to GOP staff
Incoming Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will offer up severance packages to the staff members of the outgoing House GOP leadership, according to an article in today’s Roll Call.
The story, reported by Susan Davis, reveals that while Senate staff have often been offered severance packages when the body’s majority changes over, the Republican Party did not grant this courtesy to Democrats when they assumed the majority in 1994. Severance pay will be provided for up to two months to GOP House staff, starting on January 4, 2007, or until individual staff members find new jobs. The assistance will only be given to key leadership staff, and not to rank-and-file staff members of the House’s new minority party.

Culture Shock on Capitol Hill: House to Work 5 Days a Week
Forget the minimum wage. Or outsourcing jobs overseas. The labor issue most on the minds of members of Congress yesterday was their own: They will have to work five days a week starting in January.
The horror.
Rep. Steny H. Hoyer, the Maryland Democrat who will become House majority leader and is writing the schedule for the next Congress, said members should expect longer hours than the brief week they have grown accustomed to.
“I have bad news for you,” Hoyer told reporters. “Those trips you had planned in January, forget ’em. We will be working almost every day in January, starting with the 4th.”

Some Republicans Take a Scorched-Hill Tack
Leaving Budget Decisions
To Democrats Could Disrupt
New Leadership’s Agenda
By DAVID ROGERS
December 6, 2006; Page A8
WASHINGTON — ***
Already, the Republican leadership has moved to saddle the new Democratic majority with responsibility for resolving $463 billion in spending bills for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1. And the departing chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Bill Thomas (R., Calif.), has been demanding that the Democrat-crafted 2008 budget absorb most of the $13 billion in costs incurred from a decision now to protect physician reimbursements under Medicare, the federal health-care program for the elderly and disabled.
The unstated goal is to disrupt the Democratic agenda and make it harder for the new majority to meet its promise to reinstitute “pay-as-you-go” budget rules, under which new costs or tax cuts must be offset to protect the deficit from growing.
“There are individuals who want to blow up the tracks, and there are more of those individuals in the House,” said one Senate leadership aide.
The collapse of the appropriations process will be felt soon in the Justice and Commerce departments, food-safety agencies and veterans’ health care. “It’s not just a mess. It’s a mountainous mess,” complained Wisconsin Rep. David Obey, the next House Appropriations Committee chairman.
*****
“It’s a demonstration of the irresponsibility of Republicans that they would leave this country with this mess,” said the next House speaker, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.). “But we won, we will deal with it.”
*****
“What a sad mess,” said Sen. Robert Byrd (D., W.Va).

Just got this in email and my mouth is watering. I love macaroons. But for Melina I may have to look for an easy chicken soup recipe. :knit2:
Fruitty Nutty Ginger Cherry Macaroons
2 cups coarsely shredded coconut
2 cups finely shredded coconut
1 can (415g) sweetened condensed skim milk
1 1/2 cups mixed dried fruit
14oz hazelnuts, crushed
3oz candied or maraschino cherries, halved
3oz chopped preserved ginger in syrup OR
1 teaspoon ground (powdered) ginger
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. In a large bowl, stir
everything except the condensed milk. Add the
condensed milk and mix thoroughly. Dollop teaspoonfuls
of the macaroons mixture on to a non-stick baking
tray. Bake high in the oven until slightly golden –
about 25 minutes. Macaroons burn easily, so watch them
for the last five minutes. Turn off oven and leave the
macaroons in oven for another half an hour. (That
stops them from going soggy.) Leave the macaroons on
the baking tray to cool slightly.
I cannot believe I found this! Way too much work for someone who’s sick to make even leaving out the matzo balls but worth knowing about for future need:
Vegan Matzo Ball Soup
1 1/2 cups matzoh meal
12 oz package firm silken tofu (like mori-nu)
1/4 cup plus 2 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup vegetable stock
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 carrot, peeled
handful fresh dill
fresh parsley for garnish
8 cups or so vegetable broth
Directions
In a mixing bowl, combine the matzoh meal with salt and pepper, set aside.
Crumble the tofu into In a blender or food processor, add the half cup vegetable broth and puree until smooth. Add the oil and blend again.
Mix the tofu mixture with the matzoh meal. Combine well, making sure that everything moist. Grate 1/2 the carrot into the mixture and combine until it’s well distributed. Cover the bowl with saran wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour and up to overnight. You can’t skip this step, it’s important in making sure that the matzoh balls will not fall apart when boiled.
When you are ready to form the balls, fill a large stock pot with enough water to fit all the matzoh balls with minimal touching. Salt the water generously, cover and bring to a boil.
Have handy a cutting board to line up the formed matzoh balls, and cover it with parchment paper if you have it, to prevent sticking. Also have handy a wet rag to wipe your hands on to make for clean hands for forming matzoh balls.
Remove matzoh mixture from the fridge. Form into tightly packed, walnut sized balls. When all the balls are prepared, drop carefully into the boiling water, 1 or two at a time, with a spatula or slotted spoon. Take your time and be careful, not to plop one on top of the other. When all the balls are in the water, cover the pot and DO NOT LIFT LID FOR FORTY MINUTES! Sorry for the caps, just had to stress it. When the forty minutes are up you can remove the lid. The matzoh balls will have floated to the top and will drop back down when lid is lifted. This is fun to watch.
Now they are ready to serve, however, to make them even lighter, you can turn off the heat, cover the pot again, and let them sit in the water for another hour or so. This way they absorb more water and expand a bit more.
Prepare the broth by placing it in a seperate pot. Grate the other half of the carrot into the broth, along with a healthy handful of fresh dill, roughly chopped. Bring to a low boil, and when it’s just heated you’re ready to prepare the bowls.
With a slotted spoon, carefully remove matzoh balls and place 2 or 3 in a bowl. Ladle the broth over the matzoh balls, so that they’re covered only about half way. You can garnish with some more fresh dill, or parsley. Serve to whoever you love.
If you are not serving the soup right away, you can refrigerate them over night, and boil them when ready, Some people even freeze leftovers, but I never have as there’s never been leftovers.

Hello everyone
So sorry to hear you’re still under the weather Melina.
From my experience laptops are throw away computers because they can not be upgraded easily or at all beyond the configuration in which they were purchased Most of the new ones only have one PC card slot , the graphics and display are integrated and when the OS is upgraded finding drivers is a pain or you find you can not expand the memory to accommodate the new OS..
I have a Compaq going back to like 1998. It runs windows NT, another Compaq going back to 2003 that runs windows 2000 and this Hp which runs XP..
The NT machine can only accommodate 128 megs , the windows 2000 machine 386 megs and this one 512 meg.
Some of them will also not accept the standard small footprint IDE disk drives.so you end up with like a max of 2 gegs, 10 gegs and 40 gegs as the machines get newer. :yuck:
And PJ I think I will leave statement here:
Sorry, I thought I knew what CNick, Melina, and You were talking about yesterday (last night) when CNick mentioned a Black Background and Melina said possible mute it “mauve” (ish), but now I am doubting I am having “any” idea what was being said when I “teased” you. My Bad.

Robert Gates confirmed by Senate as new Defense Secretary
CNN is reporting that Robert Gates has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate and is the new Secretary of Defense for President George W. Bush, replacing Donald Rumsfeld.
The tally was reportedly 95 votes in favor of Gates with 2 opposing.
Senate confirmation of Gates coincides with the release today of the Iraq Study Group’s vaunted final report, as RAW STORY reported earlier.
The report concluded that the situation in Iraq is “grave and deteriorating” and that the Bush administration’s Iraq policy “is not working.”

I have a Quaker breakfast cookie in the morning something out of the vending machine mid morning ( thats like 6 am) and then something really good for you like a Mexican plate or a hamburger with fries for lunch and something out of a box for dinner.
Lunch usually makes for a good power nap ..
Nice to know I’m not the only one with bad habits!
nick- I am a distrubitor of some vitamins that I have been taking for a couple of years now. I find them to be excellent and best absorbed. Im not really a sales person and just joined to sell them because Iget them at cost….anyway, there is a link on ripcoco to my vitamin page and there is a health questionaire there that you can fill out and it will give you an idea of what you need. If you are not drinking milk or taking calcium I would suggest that you at least get some of those calcium chocolates in the drugstore…just dont want to lose bone density as you get older….and also you must have a cholesterol test done. Will’s father has 400 cholesterol if he doesnt take meds…and so does Will…the guy who would be Will’s grandfather keeled over at 40 with a major coronary….very preventable.
Chances are that you are just fine…you dont smoke and youre relatively active…youre not obese and youre careful-ish about safe sex….but you might want to take at least a multi….Will has these gummy worm vitamins. They are sour…
I also really believe in fish oil for health and mental health….and evening primrose oil for women’s hormones and anyone with any sort of seborreah or psioriasis problems….
I crave veggies and salad…and its usually pretty easy to get em…
If worse comes to worst I get some supermarket sushi for lunch…
it beats the ecoli at taco bell!!
fred, try a bowl of plain oatmeal from the cafeteria…thats what I love…with fruit and yogurt and splenda!
I cant really eat fried foods anymore and anything heavy and bready makes me feel horrible.
so sorry to hear about James Kim. i used to watch TechTV religiously. About the only thing I’ve ever done – religiously! Kind of had a thing for James at one time. It’s sad to hear this news! All this made me think back to the days of “Call for help” and “The Screensavers”. I remember this lanky lady who used to co-host with Leo Laport. I can’t remember her name (hmm), but I really liked her. I so miss those early days. Now someone here recall the original name of the network?
On the Screensavers? Morgan Webb? :hot:
Always thought Sumi Das was pretty hot on Fresh Gear, too.
But alot of high cholesterol cant be treated with diet and the drop in quality of life isnt really worth it if you can tolerate statins. The do have side effects, but if you can take a minimal amount and not get muscle weakness or depression, they can really lengthen your life. There is an incredible problem of kids with high cholesterol…pediatricians dont tend ot test them. I had to fight for Will to be tested and we have a family history here.
I think that the perception that the cholesterol is a problem when youre 50 is just a perception…..if you have high cholesterol when youre younger, by the time they find it you already have beginning heart disease …..
Im just lucky that I was raised by a bohemian health food mom who was also up on the medical stuff (except that she did badly with my sister’s asthma)….she laid the path for me to really love healthy foods.
I donno if I could ever change my ways Melina, but its nice to know that someone out there is concerned. Just know that when I die I’ll have a smile on my face. Unless (of course) I choke on a vitamin or something else!
No I think this chicks name was something else. She was tall and dark headed. I think the one you are talking about was near the end.
I just goggled Morgan Webb. No it was definitely not Morgan Webb. The girl I’m talking about was rather homely looking.
just watched the fountain and WOW great movie it is basically a big rumination about life and death, i was very impressed! fuck the shitty reviews go see the movie anyway highly reccomended!
Sean is our new movie critic!= Sean. Looking cool dude!
Oh, sounds like Kat, then.
James kim…its so hard to know what his perception might have been from 2 days in a car with a 7 month old and a toddler, cold and hungry in the middle of nowhere…out of gas…..Of course you should stay with the car, but who knows how hard that was with hungry children….maybe help was justover the pass.
When I lived in MT and had to drive that pass every night between Livingston and Bozeman, I has a huge safety kit. The college there insisted that you have a big list of stuff, and since I tend to pack rat in my car anyway, I ended up with tons of supplies. Hell, even now I usually have a couple of cases of water that Im too lazy to move from the car….and blankets for the dogs and dry cleaning that Ive had in there for months….
Mom travels with coca cola because she is afraid that she will get tired on the road and not be able to get to a store in time to replenish her caffeine levels….
Its just a cautionary tale….about driving at night over passes and on dark deserted roads in the snow….
Even here, some woman drove off the highway into a ditch and was trapped for days in her car before they even were looking for her….
I like the gps systems and the cell phones that have locators….sometimes Id prefer tohave big brother watching me.
oh uh hi cnick and melina!
seanies always been a moviemeister….I think it goes with the whole vagabond lifestyle….
seanie have you checked your cholesterol lately? You eat pretty badly too…truckstop food.
I just got my copies of al gore’s films from amazon…in time to send one off to sweden for the interneational audience to copy into correct format.
The Fountain
KAT, YES! I remember that name now. Kat was the girl I was thinking of. Thank ya PJ. So what was the name of the original network. I seem to remember TechTV was not the original name.
This little yellow conure is running round on my chest because Im laying in bed and she is upchucking seeds and tryign to feed me…thats love!.
re: 122 :rofl2:
how can OJ simpson be winning the war on cultural badness? I find him to be a very important reminder of everything thats bad in the world…but also he doesnt come up all that much. Paris HIlton is in your face daily…and Kevin Federline is just a creep….I dont think that any extrememly skinny actresses or models should get any publicity at all. Paris Hilton looks like shit in jeans because she has no butt at all….disgusting…so many of these people are starving themselves to death!
Yeah, I really liked Kat. I think she ended up at G4 didn’t she?
these little conures are so cuddly seanie…you should travel with one. You can put it in your pocket when you go in places…they also talk after a year or two
Will watches G4
I’ve looked at Pj’s poll of the person we would most like not to hear of and all I can think is that the removal of only one of them would not help much. They should all be banished from media coverage. What a motley crew they are..:growl: .
wikipedia says it was originally ZDTV. I thought it was Znet
I grew frustrated with Leo Laport and Patrick Norton’s canned answers. After awhile it seemed like I was always watching a repeat. They never seemed to want to go very deep into computer prollems.
The eye candy was nice though. At least so from this side of the fence. Not so much Laport or Norton. But I remember some I would not have mind cornering in a room.
i voted for federline……
I like kim komando…she is radio but shes got a whole little world on her website with robes and subscriptions and books….
Me too seanie….I cant stand the guy….
so its like i am in a new world here no more xm so now i only have basically npr and cspan for my politics coverage and thom hartman ed schultz stephie miller and ummmm the sirius shows from sirius radio that are totally :yuck:
Yep, ZDTV first. That’s where Call for Help started, with Leo.
which means we were the only two that voted for him……
Sen. Katherine Harris spot on Sam Seder Show this morning was so STUPID. I had to turn it off. That impostor was even more annoying than the real thing!
its all fun and games till someone poops on your neck…
Hey PJ we figgered your poll out….Me and seanie voted for K-Fed!
But isnt he 3rd?
Well I just ate my last piece of “Bit-O-Honey” candy. I  me some Bit-O-Honey. Goes real good with a tall glass of ice cold sweet tea. Lipton Tea or was it Luzianne?
Poops on your neck? Yuk yuk. I don’t care how cute that little birdie is. She’d be fried chicken if she pooped on me.
I’d still like to have a :pup:
I don’t want a :cat: to sissy for me!
Here kitty kitty! :cat: :tommygun:
You and that stupid ball of yarn!
what the fuck!
Get it stuck on your paw Kitty? Here let me take care of that for ya.
Chill Travis, its only a joke!
ok, ok.:hot:
I really  kitties. I’m just role playing.
I like the pic you posted of your dungeon Travis. What kind of telescope was that I noticed in the picture?
A reflector? With a mirror instead of a lens to gather light?
A Discovery split-tube- Dobsonian 12.5 inch, I think
I used to subscribe to “Sky and Telescope.” Boy, was that mag above my head. But they had some great sky charts.
Yeah, a reflector. Here, check it out http://tinyurl.com/yb7d9f
I used to love going out late at night to look at the stars and planets. I live to close to the city now. But back home you could even make out the Milky Way. So cool. Gives one a bit of perspective as to ones place in the vast universe huh?
Oh, hey, I’ll be back shortly. I have to go pick up some grannies from a long day of Bridge playing. See ya in a bit, man
Nice scopes! I thought about buying another telescope. All I ever owned was a cheap one. But I could see quite a lot with it. Rings of Saturn were a treat even in this small scope. I remember freezing my butt off staying up late to watch the heavens.
okay Travis talk to you later if I’m not in bed by the time you arrive back home.
Cool I finally have a comment on my last podcast. Archer left a nice comment. I’m hoping some of my gay listeners will find their way over to this blog. I mention the blog all the time.
N e one hear any news in regard to Air America negotiations for a buyer?
Guess everyone’s busy. Okie, well I’ll talk with you all later then. Night!
nite nick…and all..Im just out of it….have to put the kentucky fried birdies to bed….
Well, I’m back. Nobody fell!:yippee:
do you tend to lose ’em, trav?
dont try to help em too much Travis…grandpa falls the most when he is trying to hit my helping hand or arm away…he swings, spins and goes down! Why cant very old peopke just give up and accept a little help?
I dunno. I’m a pretty stubborn bastid, and I don’t see that changing no matter how old I get.
melina, hope you get a good night’s rest tonight.
Wow, didn’t realize how late it is.
Nightie Night!
AND – I’ll go down fight’n too! (we need a Granny emo!!!)
But he falls and then he cant get up…or then he is in the hospital…that makes no sense!
Ive got to go to sleep myself…very tired even though I slept all day.
Hey, I like the themes thing. Only, the emo’s aren’t on them all. 🙁
There were so many other things going on that the most awesome sight ever seen occured in seemingly darkness — a star was eaten by a “black hole”.
:rant1:so a dirty crackwhore was knocking on my door this morning at 5:30 she said twenty dollars for everything i find that ummmmmmm cheap……
:eek::omg::eek:

You know how I mentioned in a show or two (or three) that I was applying for my radio station’s program director?
Well… I didn’t get it.

:growl::rant1:yeah fuck those guys! maybe its because of your politics:paranoid:
hey i think i found me a date here in memphis for this weekend on the internets!
oh crap i am in love!
I’m in art school….
Don’t think it was my politics…
Perhaps it’s because I’m actually AWARE of politics and current events. SO MUCH SO that I produced this thought: I feel like Steny Hoyer would’ve if Murtha had been elected Majority Leader.
I honestly believe that right now.
