The attack on Pearl Harbor, which brought the US into the Second World War, took place sixty-five years ago today.ย It’s also the birthday of Eli Wallach (1915), Noam Chomsky (1928), Harry Chapin (1942), and Tom Waits (1949).ย That’s about all I got.

Fred, all the Dem politicians are less than scintilating, but we got to go to war with the pols that we got. Maybe we get habeas corpus back in Jan, and a better minimum wage, and no more Scalias. None of that is terrible. The war’s going to end in spite of these shits, not because of them [actually the sunni insurgents might have a bit to do with this] – As Maddow was suggesting with that Dickey guy on the show last night, we’ll be forced soon to take sides, joining the shiites in exterminating sunni civilians, which will be just oh so popular here and in the arab world. That will really end it, even if a McCain or Lieberman became president. :sammy:

Man’s anti-Bush Christmas light creates furor
A New Mexico man is drawing the ire of neighbors–and his homeowners association–after putting up a politically-charged, lighted sign on his house to go with his holiday decorations.
Roberto Vasquez of Albuquerque said his sign, showing George Bush’s name crossed over by a red bar as though banning it, has caused people to shoot at the projector, try to pull out its bulb, and even threaten to “blow up the house,” he tells local TV station KOAT.
Vasquez says he’s “proud” of his message and defends the sign as “tasteful.” His neighborhood HOA, on the other hand, says it’s against the rules and wants it to come down. A KOAT reporter says that it “may take a court of law to decide which way to flip the switch.”

re18: I don’t know Fred, that might have been too much information.
good morning from the depths of hell…though I did sleep alot…still not feeling too well.
Calling computer techs…am having still a problem with my desktop…the biggest part of which is that I cant reach the tech dept and the guy who was scheduling a home visit for me has dropped the ball….
It has been working along pretty OK but knowing that the hard drive is in question as is the motherboard which every once in a while throws out a huge error and dies….
so, this is the second time they will have replaced those two parts in almost 3 years and I am really about to throw in the towel with this machine…try to save bits of it…and call in the independent tech guy who does work locally for them and Dell (and also builds machines for iner city families with the cast off parts he collects.)
Anyway, I booted this AM and it stopped on the ASUS motherboard screen…which happens…so I reboot…same…reboot…same…then reboot to nothing…black screen no fan etc. check power source, cords, wiggle everything inside tower , blow dust away, plug and unplug this and that…turn strip off and on….
Now its dead except it is still powering usb ports…and screen has lights on but no signal….little lights in box are on….
SHIT!!
What does this sound like??
I am still under warranty, strangely..and feel so badly because this co. MOnarch is a completely American run operation with American tech support…but the tech support has been pretty bad this year (previously it was spectacular)
I also am worried about itunes etc…Have most of that stuff on a separate HD but can I just easily import it into laptop?….
I dont like to keep so much stuff on laptop usually when it can live on desktop.
Any advice is appreciated!….I have to try to move along and see if I can make it out today to appointments and stuff.
Try to fold laundry and get presents wrapped because I only have just so many days till Will is out of school….and I dont need him snooping round when Im doing santa’s work…
Melina, is the power supply original because that’s what it sounds like to me, without actually being there to diagnose. I’m good but not Bill Frist good.
PG- from what I can tell in dealing with Grandpa and not only the radio biz but the film biz and the university system, is that bureaucracy rules and you cant ever chalk any of it up to your talents or skills. Usually it is that someone has someone in mind already and has to post the job…so the decision was made beforehand behind the scenes…and also people in higher spots dont want someone bright with ideas to make them look bad. Then the top people say, why are we paying you a huge salary when this new person is so bright and has so much energy? So, you threaten their jobs.
This happens all over….and try not to take it personally.
Move on and put in applications/resumes at every broadcast entity in chicago…just as an exercise, even if you cant do an internship…maybe worth it to go out and talk to a bunch of people and do interviews.
When I was working in the film biz and there wasnt much work, I would make a ton of calls and send out resumes and go meet with producers…even though it was obviously gonna pick up and I was then too booked and busy to take work anywhere but the few places that I worked for. But it was good for me to get out in the NYC film community and talk to people out of my circle.
You could probably do PA work freelance with production companies around chi-town just for fun…it probably pays $150/day to start and is grunt work, but is great for the resume and get your out there…also radio stations and tv stations usually will take an intern to run around and get coffee…even part time or as part of the university…..
Im just saying that its worthwhile to meet people out of the university system so that you can see whats really going on out there….
Of course, radio is as good as dead, so its probably more fun to run something that give you a chance to be creative and all…
Gee, I dunno. Hard to tell form that description. What ASUS mobo is it? I have one that had a crappy solder (didn’t clean it up) underneath. The board was fine until you put the stock p4 chip cooler on it. They kinda clamp down, and the pressure of doing that was enough to flex the board slightly, causing the little piece of extra solder to short out. Dead board. Start it up w/o the cooler, and no problem. I would up RMA’ing the board and also getting a different type of cooler (mounts with four screws instead, so it doesn’t flex the board). Anyhow, I think I’d look up the motherboard, and see if there are known issues. Might it be shorting out somewhere? I suppose it’s possible to keep getting bad boards, but after a while, you gotta wonder if it isn’t something else. Hard to tell from here, though. If it wasn’t on warranty, I’d say pull the mobo out and put it on the antistatic bag it came in, and hook all the shit up and see if it starts up OK. I’d also go into bios and disable the feakin’ asus startup screen, and display the POST. If it’s not even going into POST, then you can be sure it’s CPU, Memory, whatever – something in hardware. Usually it has beep codes, though. The only time I’ve not gotten a beep code was when the mobo was shorting out. Then it was just dead.
Yeah, if the little lights on the board weren’t on, I’d guess the power supply. If you have a VOM, you can check to see if you’re getting the right voltage to the motherboard. You should be getting 5 and 12 volts.
Interesting, in my feverish sleep yesterday, I got a call from a money guy who I am hoping will help me with my charitable stuff…a guy who my grandfather has known for 20 years but who is closer to my age than the usual people…so not really his friend, but more someone who’s brain I can pick…
And had a very intense yet feverish conversation about golbalism and politics…and he was explaining the pure mathematical explanations for the economy and how things are really better than we think they are if you look at it from the numbers….
Anyway, it is over my head, of course, and I was sorta delirious, but there is definitley an aspect that doesnt add up to what he is saying. I talked him down pretty much regarding what is really going on…and the end was that he was puzzled that the reality doesnt add up to the numbers….
But his research , he says, is directly from the government and the treasury and other independent sources…which I want ot get a list of as soon as I can continue this with him….
like, he said that when he first moved to NYC he went around (in the mid 80’s) and asked homeless guys on the streets if they wanted a job and they mostly said no…huh?…I told him that most homeless were actually women and children and I wanted ot know if he went to the actual shelters and talked to families there trying to get a place to live….
There was a real disconnect between the numbers and figures and the psychology of who is sitting on the street in NYC as opposed to the new suburban poor referenced above….or the families in city shelters and how they got there (largely one big illness or trauma)….
anyway, pretty interesting….the guy is not bad to talk to and he definitley isnt a Bushie…just is pretty removed from real life being a fund manager and whatever…..
I cant argue the numbers and philosophy of globalism on a higher learning level, but I can argue psychology and real life logic…which seems to win out in the end…
Im alone here with my broken tech …shit….
well I dont have one…but I need one….Ill put that on the list. Its a voltage meter, right?
But does it seem like a dead motherboard?
That was what I kept telling them was happening…and why do these ASUS motherboards fail so freakin often?
I need to set up a consortium of tech guys in this area to provide computer to the inner city…with an ulterior motive of getting tech support here at home….
Good Morning Seditionisti. Crap, where’s my coffee, I think I need to change back to the original theme.
Hang tough PG! I’ve been looking for a decent job for 4 or 5 years now. I finally found one, I think, but have never had such a difficult time. If I get an interview, I usually get the job but it hasn’t been like that. Very disconcerting and has really undermined my confidence. If you move to Phoenix you can be an intern at NovaM. There is an opening there, but it’s unpaid of course. http://tinyurl.com/yy8ymn
I just emailed them again…and if I dont get satisfaction I may have to just buy parts and replace crap myself….or just jump to a new system.
I hate to have to say that Dell is better to deal with….but at least they have people at the phone there….
You can beep a tech with MOnarch, but they cant set up a home visit…you have to try to get through to the office during business hours…and the phone system has been messed up.
Whats wrong with this country…the world?
Yeah, a Volt-Ohm meter. You don’t need anything fancy, really, but then I’m sure that’s what you’ll want. ๐ Hard to say w/o being there if it’s dead or not. As I said, I’d see if there’s a known issue (could have been a bad production run or something like that). Tell you the truth, people tend to jump at the most complicated diagnosis first, when it’s usually the simplest. The best thing to do is go back to basics. #1 – Power. Most common problem. Assuming it’s plugged in (you’d be surprised), is there electricity coming out of the wall? Check the voltage, just to be sure (should be somewhere in the vicinity of 110 volts). Doesn’t really have to be all that close. Odds are, if you can plug a light into it and it works, you’re OK.
Again, if you can get to BIOS, have it display the POST screen (you can even tell it not to do the fast POST), and see if there are any errors. If you can get into the BIOS, you may be able to look at the voltages and stuff.
Next, (if you didn’t get to do it in BIOS) unplug the power supply from the motherboard, and check the voltage coming out. Something like +5 (RED), -5 (WHITE), +12 (YELLOW), -12 (BLUE) volts, Ground (BLACK). Check to ground. Odds are, if your power supply is plugged in and working, these will all be OK. But, it could always be an intermittent problem, which is really hard to find. Beyond that, look at how the board is mounted in the case. See anything that could cause it to short to the case or to something else? Is the CPU cooler fan running? If it doesn’t have onboard audio and/or video, you can try pulling the cards and see if there’s a difference (of course, you won’t get much of an image on the screen w/o a video card, but you can see if the drive(s) spin up and all that).
I can’t think of much more you can really check on your own.
Personally, I prefer to build my own. That way, I know what I have. Dell, schmell.
See Krista…its not you…its that the reality of jobs on the ground are far different form what we are supposed to believe according to the govt and money people…except that Krugman is saying that it doesnt add up too…though he is viewed ad the lefty press grey lady money guy…I think he is right.
re 33: I do the same.
People that only look at the numbers always miss something. Numbers don’t lie(unless the Bushies get a hold of them) but they don’t say everything.
Gov’t unemployment figures don’t include huge numbers of unemployed because they’ve apparently stopped looking for work.
How can people just stop looking for work?? I’m sure I wasn’t counted in those numbers because I wasn’t registered most of that time. I’ve been working independantly.
Okay, so, I can’t get my theme back to the original MS theme.
See what happens when you screw around? You can use this link.
well, I think that people go out and look for work for cash….and/or they go to soup kitches and live off the grid…once the grid stops helping you, why keep trying?….If one can go to soup kitchens and make a few bucks here and there doign whatever there is off the books and go to a clinic when sick…then they are not counted. Its harder if you have kids, but maybe enough people are doing it to tip the numbers in the favor of the govt. I know that the reclassification of jobs has changed the whole game. No one can live on mcdonalds wages and having those wages lets you out for services…so maybe 2 jobs and just a whisper away from disaster, youre counted as a plus, but that is no life or retirement or security. Its certainly not the american dream.
tring to live on minimumu wage in this area is the equivalent of being unemployed…you spend all your time on the bus getting to and from work and barely make rent.
Whheeewwww :omg: PJ- are you trying to prepare us for the Reichian future? ‘see what happens, etc’. That was scary:hot:
Too many choices and no way back :eek:
bad pj:no:
Though I do remember some pretty colors :bong:and stuff :dancers::tinfoil:
I have always thought that it would be great to be able to live within your own reality, while being able to function at least minimally in the “real” world – enough to get some sort of a job to make a couple of bucks. I mean, imagine if, in your mind, you could be living any life you chose to imagine, and to you, it was all real. Your corporeal self wouldn’t need much. A room with a mattress or something. So, you could get some crappy little job that you wouldn’t even have to notice you were doing, all while doing something else. The real world aint all it’s cracked up to be.
so the lights on the motherboard are on….Im just not skilled enough to acutally build my own computer…nor do I have the time…though I do need to build one soon just to learn how.
I just cant have it be one that Im relying on…and certainly not one that is in warranty still.
I just want a stable box that will work….Ive had also lots of problems with windows xp media center beign unstable on the laptop…I know that the answer is gonna be to reinstall but Ive done that already….everytime I install software in this computer such as linksys or HP printer stuff or anything I get the blue screen of very bad failure that instructs me to uninstall the program and see if thats better.
I can probably say exactly what Dell tech support will say without going through the 5 hour ordeal….
Should I switch to apple?
Its so foreign to me and I dont know how well I can run a server setup and the whole media radio station thing from mac….also most of my tech friends are PC people….its more expensive to keep an apple up….right? maybe Im wrong…
I wonder what would happen if I made the main desktop an apple. Im not on a real network anyway…just sharing the printer and one file folder and the router…..
But pj, then could I intergrate whatever server I eventually get?
Actually, on all the themes, if you go to the main blog page, there should be a sidebar with a way to go back to the original theme. Personally, I like the tranquility white one.
I played jazz for a living for a couple of year…., living the reality I wanted :bong::40::billcat: It was very real- not knowing if I’d have a place to live, a meal to eat :cold: The real world was defintely not where I wanted to be
I couldn’t find a sidebar in the ‘mobile’ mode :slap:
I supported Macs to some extent, and I’m pretty sure that as long as you do whatever they tell you to do, you’ll be fine. OS X is just Unix with a GUI interface on top of it, so you can run pretty much anything you want. If you want nice point and click installations and all that, then your choices might be a bit more limited. But, that’s better. Having too many options kinda just screws things up.
Building a computer is pretty easy these days. It was more fun when you had to set the jumpers and figure out the frequency and multiplier and all that. Now, put the shit together, turn it on, and it works.
And I thought in mtns w/ 12V was last time I ever was to see

KristaPea, listen to Melina when see says it is difficult to break into the “biz”. However, keep at it. Put the thought as a Ram process — “it just runs the Hard Drive.” LBH TeeHee.

The way people just quit looking for work is that in 2001 when they were making $40 an hour with bennies and had their $250,000 dollar house that they bought for $75,000 in the early 80’s mostly paid for and had $50,000 in the bank they got laid off.
They first of all spent about half of the 50k each year for two years while they looked for work, then they took out a second mortgage or a home equity loan on their house for $ 100k and spent the next three years living off that while still looking for a job.
Remember that after the unemployment insurance ran out at the end of 50 weeks sometime in 2002 that they were no longer “unemployed” as far as the BLS was concerned since there is no way to “count” them as such
In the mean time they got depressed and divorced , their kids had to dropout of college and move back in with them and now they are down to their last $10,000 all the jobs at home depot are taken , the part time janitors job if they are lucky does not pay enough to pay the mortgage so they voted for democrats in the hope that Ron Emanuel would not be a globalist .
Maybe while being depressed they also spent $800 on an assault rifle and some ammo.:bf:

Sweet Potato Latkes
Serves 4-6 (depending on how much they like fried stuff)
2 lb. sweet potatoes (about 3 medium), peeled and coarsely shredded
2 to 3 Tbs. minced fresh ginger
5 scallions, finely chopped
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 to 1 tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
2 large eggs, beaten
Vegetable oil for frying
Sour cream or drained yogurt, optional
Combine sweet potatoes, ginger and scallions, and set aside. Combine flour, salt and pepper in separate bowl. Drain liquid from potatoes, and if needed, place potatoes in dish towel and wring out excess moisture. Return to mixing bowl, and combine slowly with flour mixture. Fold eggs into potato mixture. Line baking sheet with 3 layers of paper towels.
Heat about 1 cup oil in large, heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Using 1/4 cup measure, scoop latke batter onto skillet to form cakes about 1/4- to 1/2-inch high and 3 inches round. Flatten with back of spatula, taking care not to crowd skillet.
Cook until golden brown on one side, about 4 minutes, and turn to cook on second side, about 3 minutes more. Using spatula, transfer latkes to baking sheet lined with layers of paper towel. Keep in 225F oven if serving later, or serve immediately with sour cream or drained yogurt, if desired.
now i have to go eat thanks gypsy!

Huh?” Soooo cute, especially the puppy (not impugning Druid’s cuteness, it’s just my eyes automatically zero in on puppies and kittens, can’t help it).
By the way, if any of you here live in San Francisco (or very nearby), I’m looking to trial adopt a female cat to keep my boy Samsara company (I guess he’s finally over his mourning period from losing his lifelong buddy a year and a half ago, and is starting to protest having the house to himself all the damn day and many evenings).
Yay, thank you Fred!! :pup:
I’ll tune in there after the democracynow feed is done.
‘nother question, all: my mom is visiting L.A. Jan. 15-19. Does anyone know if Marc has any appearances scheduled during that time? I want to try to get her to go, if he’s appearing.
:eek:its ex! you know i was for a while on a tour that was going to be spending ten days in san fran but alas i got taken off of that tour.
Oh, dang, Sean!! We keep getting foiled.:rant1:
When you say tour, do you mean trucking, or some other kind of tour?
Sean, 10 days in SF might make you arrogant.
Ex, are you looking for cat sources in SF? I was listening to a number of pet finding stories last night.
wv, I have calls in to some friends of friends here, and have a message back from one of them. I have pretty easy connections with the ar folks here (ar = animal rights), so am expecting an overflow of offers/requests, but tell me what you heard, wv…:joe:
Anyone else watch “South Park?” Ten days is SF might make Sean stinky! LOL!
i was touring with jesus christ superstar got taken off the tour a couple of days before i would have got down by farmerkats oh well at least with this tour i will be home for christmas!
:penguin:sean already stinks!
Wow, Sean! I didn’t know you were a performer. Details, please?
I’m heading for lunch now. I apologize to all SF’ns about the stinky comment. I just can’t resist “South Park.”
Hey, I musta missed that episode of South Park. What’s the stinky in SF in reference to? No offense taken ๐

Sean, I’m not certain, I just thought I heard Malloy thanking Marc, sounded like he was closing out an interview. I could have misheard, but better safe than sorry.
Sorry you missed the tour, but at least you won’t be on the roads for xmas-time insanity.
ex-ny’er Yea, tea:joe: Cheers.
And Yea to “ar” folk. ๐

I just caught up w/shock and awe piece from last night’s Malloy. Awe. More like awful. (I guess the fundy rethugs would say awe-ful, as in full of awe, and count themselves clever). :fu: fundy rethug legitimized crime syndicate.
i would of ended up listening to malloy anyway so no problem!
Yay to ar folk, ditto, Druid! :billcat::penguin::parrot::sheep::cat::pup: (them’s all the non-human animal emoticons – hey we need some more!)
Goddamn, this shock and awe bombing clip is still going. So sad.
“And that went on for hours” (Malloy tells us at end of bombing clip). Sends chills down my spine, truly, my skin is tingling.
Can anyone tell me the origin of Malloy often calling Bush “chucklenuts”?. Is it just a Malloy-ism, or is there some material connection with something? Just curious.
Is that Patty Smith singing that gruesome song, Sean? Something like “your mouth filled with (couldn’t make out the word)”…

The teenager built his own computer several years ago and it is still incredibly fast and he’s had only one quirky thing with it that he fixed. I wish he could build a laptop.
Latkes – mine always fall apart. Gypsy – it’s great having you back! Do you have a good plain macaroon recipe?
:tongue:oh i dont eat veal! it will be chicken parmesan!
Sean, I don’t believe you’re sorry, I think you just like being a prankster. That’s ok. :nana:
You just like yanking the chain, I know. Is veal parmisan the only option, really?? My vegan militancy is more of the private kind, I don’t tell others what to eat, I think that’s obnoxious (couldn’t stand self-righteous veg*ns, myself, and I strive not to be that way). I’ll tell you what vegan travelers do: pasta with tomato sauce and veges, baked potatoes, beans, rice, salads at Taco Bell, vegeburgers at McDeaths (don’t know if Murder King carries them, or have I got it the other way around?), and so on. Basically, it’s scanning the menu and ordering everything non-animal. Sometimes it’s a matter of asking them to take the vegetables that are usually on the side and fill the plate up with that. I’ve never been a trucker, so I don’t know how feasible that is, but I’m just offering. When you finally make it here to SF, let’s go have a tasty vegan meal, you’ll love it!
Druid, what does AIV stand for? By the way, it was a dream about a dead fox talking to me that turned me vegan. Sounds crazy, but it is absolutely true. The fox said to me “I didn’t know I could have a stake through me and still be alive.” I wasn’t planning, it just happened. But since then, I have viscerally felt that brutality to non-human animals is intrinsically linked to brutality against human animals. Or vice versa, whichever.
Sean, have you heard of Patti Smith? I think she was one of the seminal NYC punk rockers at the old CBGB’s in Manhattan (recently closed down). She campaigned for Nader, and I think at antiwar rallies.
Awwww SeanMS Not Veal
:nana:
i know patti smith! i just cant place her music. i think her and randi had a little kerfuffle!
Hey PG
What can I say – but DAMN! I am really sorry for you.
Go have a drink :40:
Have a smoke :bong: I would have a cig wit ya but I quit sometime ago. But there are those quiet moments when you can feel the cig in your hands and the quiet yet stern sounds of the match lighting the tobacco and paper creating a small sizzle that drowns out the whole world when you take in that first puff – Ahhh – remind me – why did I quit?
But be angry :rant1: – and then begin looking anew. Melina had some good ideas.
Best of luck to you.
:sammy:
:pup:maybe they will have puppy parmesan!

To visit a modern CAFO (Confined Animal Feeding Operation) is to enter a world that, for all its technological sophistication, is still designed according to Cartesian principles: animals are machines incapable of feeling pain. Since no thinking person can possibly believe this any more, industrial animal agriculture depends on a suspension of disbelief on the part of the people who operate it and a willingness to avert your eyes on the part of everyone else.
From everything Iโve read, egg and hog operations are the worst. Beef cattle in America at least still live outdoors, albeit standing ankle deep in their own waste eating a diet that makes them sick.
And broiler chickensโฆat least donโt spend their eight-week lives in cages too small to ever stretch a wing.
That fate is reserved for the American laying hen, who passes her brief span piled together with a half-dozen other hens in a wire cage whose floor a single page of this [New York Times] magazine could carpet. Every natural instinct of this animal is thwarted, leading to a range of behavioral โvicesโ that can include cannibalizing her cagemates and rubbing her body against the wire mesh until it is featherless and bleeding.โฆ [T]he 10 percent or so of hens that canโt bear it and simply die is built into the cost of production. And when the output of the others begins to ebb, the hens will be โforce-moltedโโstarved of food and water and light for several days in order to stimulate a final bout of egg laying before their lifeโs work is done.โฆ
Many breeding sows spend their whole adult lives in gestation and farrowing stalls where they cannot turn around.
Click for larger image.
Piglets in confinement operations are weaned from their mothers 10 days after birth (compared with 13 weeks in nature) because they gain weight faster on their hormone- and antibiotic-fortified feed. This premature weaning leaves the pigs with a lifelong craving to suck and chew, a desire they gratify in confinement by biting the tail of the animal in front of them. A normal pig would fight off his molester, but a demoralized pig has stopped caring.
โLearned helplessnessโ is the psychological term, and itโs not uncommon in confinement operations, where tens of thousands of hogs spend their entire lives ignorant of sunshine or earth or straw, crowded together beneath a metal roof upon metal slats suspended over a manure pit. So itโs not surprising that an animal as sensitive and intelligent as a pig would get depressed, and a depressed pig will allow his tail to be chewed on to the point of infection.
Sick pigs, being underperforming โproduction units,โ are clubbed to death on the spot. The USDAโs recommended solution to the problem is called โtail docking.โ Using a pair of pliers (and no anesthetic), most but not all of the tail is snipped off. Why the little stump? Because the whole point of the exercise is not to remove the object of tail-biting so much as to render it more sensitive. Now, a bite on the tail is so painful that even the most demoralized pig will mount a struggle to avoid it.โฆ
More than any other institution, the American industrial animal farm offers a nightmarish glimpse of what capitalism can look like in the absence of moral or regulatory constraint. Here in these places life itself is redefinedโas protein productionโand with it suffering. That venerable word becomes โstress,โ an economic problem in search of a cost-effective solution, like tail-docking or beak-clipping or, in the industryโs latest plan, by simply engineering the โstress geneโ out of pigs and chickens. Our own worst nightmare such a place may well be; it is also real life for the billions of animals unlucky enough to have been born beneath these grim steel roofs, into the brief, pitiless life of a โproduction unitโ in the days before the suffering gene was found.
Michael Pollan,โAn Animalโs Placeโ New York Times Magazine, 11/10/02
Ok, sorry I had to do it. There has got to be a better way, and there is (getting on vegan soapbox now)!
Here’s a shortcut and it’s fun: listen to Bob Linden’s Go Vegan radio show Sunday nights 9-10PM west coast time. You have to tune in to San Francisco’s Quake radio to hear it live, or the station in L.A., or just go to Linden’s archives at goveganradio.com
gee i know! i read fast food nation saw the movie with this girl i am seeing (when i am home:cry:) think i may have to quit my job then i can never see anybody from here but i can not use 100 gallons of diesel fuel a day and eat better!
Ok, I didnt’ mean to chase you away, Sean, and didn’t mean for that post to be so long, everyone. Guess I so rarely outnumber (or am on an ever par, numberwise) with the carnivores, I got carried away.
Anyways, I remember hearing that kerfuffle when Patti Smith was on Randi’s show. Randi was at her most obnoxious and hateful. I’ll never forget her telling Nader “you’re like a beautiful pair of shoes I want, but can’t have.”, and shouting him whenever he attempted to answer any of the hostile questions she barked at him. Pure demonic psycho hateful person. Her and Ed Schultz and Jerry Springer progressives?? Give me a f’in break. ๐ก If that’s liberal, call me radical (which I do call myself anyway, but still, barf to those three).
(not to mention have an actual girlfriend)
Horses, horses, coming in from all directions…..
Yup, Patti Smith was the seminal punk figure of my youth and I knew her horses record by heart. I actually have her anthology in my amazon cart but I think the x-mas shopping is gonna make me run out of $ before I can purchase it this month…save for later button….
Finally getting the laptops to work, and have been off and on all day with this screwy thing. The printer wont connect which really pisses me off because they are all on and on the network but not working with eachother!

Dru, I cant hear your voicemail but I can hear the test thing, so something is wrong.
Just tired today and feeling lousy.
I cant seem to get on top of all the stuff I have to do and the sickness is making me feel bad…
Plus my father keeps emailing me about the multimedia player and if I shouldnt just get a simple thing…in that he wanted to get me one for xmas but he didnt realize they were that expensive.
So, I sent him the links to all the cnet reviews and of course they are all done by James Kim….and then his autopsy results came on TV along with the whole story of how he wnet and where he went and what happened…its just so sad…
and I cant get my podcasts…
PJ is there a way to download replay av files to another computer? Do they save files for a certain amt of time?
I am trying to switch everything to another computer and have to look at how to reverse load my ipod….

yeah ex… Im not much of a fan of Randi’s anymore…but Nader is horrible…egotistical and blaming of others for his crap…I really dont like him…and if he was so into this 3rd party stuff then where is he in between the elections that he is just trying to stir up? He could actually work on and build a platform but he doesnt…he waits until he can muck things up and get alot of press and he steps in.
I hate Nader…and I think that people who supported him were very misled and angry at the system but not understanding that we cant get out of this by voting for an unelectable crazy person. Call yourself a radical all you want…we may not want ot follow the democratic line and may disagree with alot of what goes on…but you have to realize that the only way out of this mess is to use the dems to reclaim what we can so that we can have some leverage….at least try to get our rights back on the books before we “take to the streets” or any such stuff that isnt happening unless we have a draft or war comes here to our land.
the alternative is just too horrible and could mean the end of any recognizable future for our children.

but Nader is horribleโฆegotistical and blaming of others for his crapโฆI really dont like himโฆ
I’m not a Naderite anymore (was back in 2000), and have left the Green Party for the California Peace and Freedom Party some years ago. That said, he may very well be an egoist, despite living a very austere lifestyle (austere lifestyle doesn’t necessarily preclude overweening arrogance). But, *that* said, what kind of democracy is it when we have to strategize whether we should support a candidate who is that much (or that little, depending on one’s point of view, I swim in a very diverse socialist crowd in P&F Party) to the left of the duopoly?
and if he was so into this 3rd party stuff then where is he in between the elections that he is just trying to stir up?
I’ve heard many times that he is actually very active, mostly on his own projects’ behalfs, but no media coverage, even outright media whiteout
He could actually work on and build a platform but he doesntโฆhe waits until he can muck things up and get alot of press and he steps in.
This is one of the objections some in P&F argued when he came seeking our presidential endorsement in 2004.
I hate Nader
Wow, that’s pretty strong. Myself, I don’t hate or like him, just am examining him from a political point of view.
โฆand I think that people who supported him were very misled and angry at the system but not understanding that we cant get out of this by voting for an unelectable crazy person. Call yourself a radical all you wantโฆwe may not want ot follow the democratic line and may disagree with alot of what goes onโฆbut you have to realize that the only way out of this mess is to use the dems to reclaim what we can so that we can have some leverageโฆ.
Ok, here’s where we diverge. The way out is to use the dems to get us out of this mess? They’re the problem!! The dems are not in the business of getting us out of this mess, come on! Voting for the same, but expecting different result? No, it won’t work. I think people who support the dems are misled and angry at the system, and don’t understand that we can’t get out of it by voting for the same the good cop side of the duopoly.
Well, I have to go to monthly staff meeting now :spank:, I’m just a glutton for punishment. Thanks for posting, all, and I’ll be back here next time I get a chance.

BUT did they talk about the fact that all our Arab friends in the region are SUNNI and they say the shi’ites are lunatics – as are the fringe sunni al qaeda. Ever since AAR went centrist I haven’t seen much of a future for them ..We don’t need Limpprick lights just banging away on the rethugs without some solutions . We elected the demodrops as requested now if they don’t do anything for us then what ??:bf:
Ooh, Kreeger’s a Maron fan. I foresee radio, and many Showtime specials!
Send Kreeger an email and ask him to come over here and blog with us maybe he would learn what the term “left” means .
i was wondering about the court hearing this morning….. so this is hopeful, yes? :knit:
The bailing out of AAR probably just gives them more time to figure out why 15 million people a day still listen to Limbaugh while only 1.5 million listened(note the tense) to Franken:reaper::reaper:
well, I think that Marc might consider workign for kreeger…I think Kreeger has been a supporter…

Who would think that the driver most necessary for a brand new model was only on the internet and not the disc?
well, I dont think its the middle leanings…if anything, the middleness of it all attracts more listeners in this country…
The middleness just gets the Moderate Republicans to listen to them ..What does that 30% of the voting public that typically don’t vote want to hear..?? Most of them see little difference between Republicans and Democrats but the rethugs obviously made them angry ..If nothing happens they might even get pissed..:bf:
Bill Richardson to run for president in 2008
Gov. Bill Richardson (D-NM) has told FOX News that he is running for president in 2008.
“I’ve dealt with the issues that are very important today โ national security, immigration and energy,” Richardson said, adding that he felt his Latino heritage will help his campaign. “But I’m not running as an Hispanic,” said the former U.S. ambassador, “I am running as an American who is proud to be Hispanic.”
Richardson joins Gov. Tom Vilsack of Iowa, Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana, and former Sen. Mike Gravel of Alaska as presidential candidates of note for the 2008 Democratic primary season

Finally an outsider( that I have heard of at least) :yippee::yippee::yippee:
When speaking to the typical groups on the left AAR probably loses as many people on the far left as they gain in the middle.with there move to the center. The fact that the thugs were not Republicans ticked a lot of the “real” Republicans off causing them to vote for dems and causing the Reich to lose this year. If the rethugs move back toward the center( or the “real” Republicans perceive them to be moving to the center) the democrats will be as fragmented as ever in 2008.:bf:
Richardson? RICHARDSON!!!!!
Okay, I’m happy now. I’m going home and drinking a beer in honor of the future…

ugh…well, I guess then we should all vote for whatever thrid party candidate comes up in 08…honestly…how is that gonna make the party less fragmented?
I do hate Nader…and I know plenty like him who subsist on rice and beans and live a very small life while gaining wealth and just hoarding over it. …in secret? I doubt that Nader could be out doing good deeds in secret and not one press person would pick up on it…not one dem or blogger…? come on!
He is a very rich and very strange old man…whatever he meant right in doing in the first place has gotten all twisted up.
So, I hear that the CT for Lieberman party is going national and running a dinosaur for president. I guess Ill jump on that bandwagon rather than try to work with someone who can actually get elected and try to roll back some of these draconian laws….makes sense to me…
For Freedom and Democracy and a Pony
Melina, regarding Nader I completely agree. Nader gave us Bush PERIOD. I really resent the Naderites denying that fact. Nader voters cast 97,000 votes in Florida in 2000, and can anyone tell me that made no difference? PLEASE! The lack of accountability alone is madness. I do also believe that The Dems and Repubes are equally corrupt, however Gore is certainly not Bush.

oh, its Maloney I hate…Kreeger is as fine as any suit type who is OK can be….supportive of what I like anyway, though he will have ot have alot of $$ to get it going.
Listen, the fact may bee that the future of real radio is gonna be in podcasting and streaming. Whole cities are just starting to get wireless…stamford downtown is wireless through the library….
Pandora is offering a radio that is in the wireless network and offers the pandora choices, and dell and many other outlets have a network radio. Its only a matter of time before the prices drop…
and if you look at the last 10 years of internet progress, its not unbelievable to think that in 5-10, more years most metro areas will offer wireless and cable boxes will come with built in wireless…
Cablevision here is already trying out a modem with wireless built in.
In a world where what is replacing AAR is Dr Joy Brown and cooking shows, it doesnt seem like there is all that much new out there….
So, dont count them out. It might be the smartest move ever to put their money into a big internet radio station…as if Arianna Huffington had set up a radio station instead of an interactive newspaper…even she is offering lots of video now…
I can see that as a better place to invest. You maybe wont get the Al Frankens for 2 mil a year but you can offer Marc Maron and even Sam Seder 125,000$ per year and a platform from which to launch whatever they are doing such as books and shows.
And not to say that radio stations wont carry them or that AAR ownt continue in major cities on regular networks…but its such an uphill battle that at some point it might be worth it to ask if it isnt more worth it to try to get in early on the next thing and build a kick ass enterprise before the rest of em rush in.
I hope they can keep most major cities…but the thing seems to be pretty bleak…I cant believe it…just really sad
and Will’s father just called me after something like 2 years of silence to scream at me and call me all kinds of names for something that he misreadon the internet regarding a supposed suit against him 2 years ago…huh?…and then said he was coming her for x-mas…yeah, well Im not necessarily here for xmas….so whatever…
Then his newly ex wife called me to tell me that he called her and went berzerk…
ah, isnt it nice to have visitations for the holidays? havent I suffered enough for one year?
Im gonna call my lawyer down there tomorrow and see how much it will cost to go after him for back child support….just to keep him busy….
Maybe I should let him have Will for a while…:rofl2::dancers:
wouldnt that be grand?….I think that he might last half a day at most….
