Al Jazeera is reporting that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a six country alliance that includes Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman, are now considering working together to acquire and share nuclear technology.

Clashes Break Out After Pinochet’s Death
SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) – Gen. Augusto Pinochet, who terrorized his opponents for 17 years after taking power in a bloody coup, died Sunday, putting an end to a decade of intensifying efforts to bring him to trial for human rights abuses blamed on his regime. He was 91.
Violent clashes broke out between police and Pinochet opponents who threw rocks at cars and set up fire barricades on the city’s main avenue. Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd. Authorities said there were a number of arrests, but no immediate reports of injuries.
Hundreds of Pinochet supporters gathered outside the hospital, weeping and trading insults with people in passing cars. Some shouted “Long Live Pinochet!” and sang Chile’s national anthem.
Many Chileans saw Pinochet’s death as reason for celebration. Hundreds of cheering, flag-waving people crowded a major plaza in the capital, drinking champagne and tossing confetti.

Olympic bomber Rudolph unhappy with Colorado prison
FLORENCE, Colo. โ Olympic bomber Eric Rudolph laments in a series of letters to a newspaper that the maximum-security federal prison where he is spending the rest of his life is designed to drive him insane.
“It is a closed-off world designed to isolate inmates from social and environmental stimuli, with the ultimate purpose of causing mental illness and chronic physical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and arthritis,” he wrote in one letter to The Gazette of Colorado Springs.
Rudolph wrote that he spends 23 hours a day in his 7-by-12-foot cell, his only exercise confined to an enclosed area he described as a “large empty swimming pool” divided into “dog-kennel style cages.”

well i’m majoring in animation. Character Animation to be specific. i really love 2-d, but the industry is pushing 3-D right now, so that’s what my Reel (or thesis/ student film) is mainly on. well, the job market for animators is constantly growing. just turn on the TV and look at the commericals! most of the things on TV have some sort of visual effects or animation in them. so that’s a good thing. the bad thing is that the work isn’t really stable. once you finish a job or project, the company lets you go usually or say they’ll call you when they get another project. to get a stable job at a well known company, you have to be really good…..and that’s where all the pressure and competition comes in.:fustrate:

Students to make biodiesel to run school buses
DUBLIN, Ohio – Students at a suburban Columbus high school plan to save their district money by converting their French fry oil into fuel.
For the past year, students at Dublin Jerome High School have worked on a project to make biodiesel fuel for school buses from the cafeteria’s used vegetable oil. If the project works, the district would be one of the first in the country to make its own pure biodiesel, said Robin Leeds of the National School Transportation Association.
Students got the idea after studying biodiesel in an earth systems class. They used grant money to buy the $8,000 machine needed to convert the vegetable oil to fuel and began collecting from school cafeterias last Wednesday.
“Everyone wants this to succeed,” said senior Arielle Babineaux, 17.

We had about 50-60 people in St Pete. Some of them carpooled over to Tampa to wave signs at people coming out of the stadium after the Bucs game, as if the fans hadn’t suffered enough.
I went to see Borat instead. And felt old because I was the only one in the theater who caught the Laurel and Hardy reference. I hate when that happens.

Bill would allow legally blind Texans to hunt
AUSTIN โ A state lawmaker wants to make sure no Texan is left out when it comes to hunting, even if the hunter is legally blind.
Rep. Edmund Kuempel, a Seguin Republican, has filed a bill for the 2007 legislative session that would allow legally blind hunters to use a laser sight, or lighted pointing instrument. The devices are forbidden for sighted hunters.
Blind hunters would also have to have a sighted hunter along with them, but they could hunt any game that sighted people can hunt in the same seasons and using the same weapons.
“This opens up the fun of hunting to additional people, and I think that’s great,” Kuempel said.

Ohio Rep. Kucinich to run for president
Democrats’ Iraq war plans cited as impetus for entering 2008 race
CLEVELAND – Rep. Dennis Kucinich, an Ohio Democrat who unsuccessfully ran for president in 2004, said Monday he is planning to run again because his party isn’t pushing hard enough to end the war in Iraq.
In a statement, Kucinich said he plans to formally announce his candidacy for 2008 on Tuesday at City Hall, where he served as mayor of his hometown in the 1970s.

Oil producers shun dollar
By Haig Simonian in Zurich and Javier Blas and Carola Hoyos in London
Published: December 10 2006
Oil producing countries have reduced their exposure to the dollar to the lowest level in two years and shifted oil income into euros, yen and sterling, according to new data from the Bank for International Settlements.
The revelation in the latest BIS quarterly review, published on Monday, confirms market speculation about a move out of dollars and could put new pressure on the ailing US currency.
Market liquidity is traditionally low in December, and many traders have locked in profits, potentially reinforcing volatility.
Russia and the members of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, the oil cartel, cut their dollar holdings from 67 per cent in the first quarter to 65 per cent in the second.
Meanwhile, they increased their holdings of euros from 20 to 22 per cent, the BIS said. The speed of the shift may help to explain the weakness of the dollar, which recently fell to a 20-month low against the euro and a 14-year low against sterling….

Yahoo! News: Bark Beetles Ravaging Western U.S. Forests
A bark beetle epidemic is destroying millions of spruce, pine and fir trees in the Rocky Mountains. Global warming has eliminated freezing temperature periods that kept beetle populations in check. The warming climate has extended breeding season and has also allowed them to move into higher elevations where they were once unable to survive. Extensive drought, which has weakened the trees’ defenses against predators, is also creating an ideal situation for the beetles. Almost five million Lodgepole pines in Colorado and another five million in Idaho have succumbed to the beetles. Utah, the hardest hit, has lost half of its Engelmann spruce trees.

Wow, Amazing. We lived in Dublin, Ohio for what seemed like forever and a day until we moved to S. Florida a few years ago. This high school has been described as one where the kids come from the homes that “have more.” A very, very wealthy Republican area. (We lived on the “wrong side of the river” LOL) If anyone is into golf, this is where Jack Nicklaus has the annual Memorial Golf tourney. I can see the parents not being behind this kind of “subversive environmental” idea. It’s that bad.We actually had mothers say that if they had to have black little girls in their brownie
troop that they just wouldn’t have a girl scout troop. Shoot me, shoot me now. YIKES!!!!
And somehow I moved from this nightmare Repug situation to Mark Foley’s district. I guess it’s just the universe’s way of laughing hysterically at me.
I haven’t been around for a long time. Hope it’s OK that I join right in. You all are the BEST!!!! Pam

Hi Spiritdancer22 , ๐ :dancers: ๐ ๐ Tea:joe: cheers
Sorry about your job Andy. It can really suck hard dealing with the public. I only like dealing with narrow sectors of the public with very specific interests. If I worked at a place where just anyone could walk in an give me hell, :tommygun: :no: Ayup.
My new job seems okay so far. There are time cards, which I hate. And the breaks are all specified by law. I have to take the 15 minute break at a specific time. That break was made for smokers anyways. There’s not really anything to do in a 15 minute break except smoke and besides that it breaks my stride and momentum.I usually don’t bother with it. :jerk:
Thanks Krista. Sorry about the whining. Hopefully the yellowpages ad will boost the computer business.
This guy on PBS is trying to compare Obama’s popularity with Ross Perot’s short lived popularity. :jerk:
Too bad you didn’t live in the Phoenix market, Andy. I think the advertising time at Air America is pretty inexpensive.
Well the only reason I have the YP ad is they offered it SOOOO cheap. A 1/4 page ad for 45.00 per month. yp ads are notoriously expensive.
Okay, if you’re an old fart like me it looks like this. I don’t know if Obama will be a joke two weeks from now, but just off his N.H. speech playing on CSPAN, all politics aside, the guy has the JFK charisma, mit schmaltz. He’s got the Reagan communication skills too. People listen to him deliver a platitude, and they go freaking nuts.
Like Clinton, but cooler, and less wonky. Hillary’s got a huge problem here, folks. :sammy:
Trouble is Obama has zilch for experience. He’s unqualified.
I believe dubya has lowered the bar rather substantially on the whole “qualification” thing.
I know Obama’s bright etc etc. but he needs more experience.
I thought he was a sellout on Alito, personally. I kinda like Edwards, assuming Gore refuses to run. I can really see a Clinton/Obama ticket, too. Still don’t see Hillary winning, but it’s a long, long way to the nomination.
His whole statement, I didn’t vote for Alito, but I didn’t support the filibuster. Come ON!!
I am watching the News Hour now. Obama seems like he has Bobby magic to me. I was not entirely on board when he was killed but if Obama can deliver the eloquence and a message, who knows.
I still would prefer Gore and maybe Obama as a running mate. Edwards would be OK, too. Sorry if it sounds too DLC because I am not but we have to win this one.
Gypsy, they are scary. :omg: Jeezus.
I’m having a real tough time getting past that, myself. He’s an incredible orator (is he experienced enough to be called a statesman?), but man, I just can’t figure out why in the hell he did that. I still shake my head.
Welcome, Pam! The water is warm!

Just a short note before I climb into bed. Sean and I met today here in Birmingham for lunch. After lunch we came back over to the apartment to hang out and talk. On the way back to Sean’s truck we stopped off at Bestbuy. Browsed for Video gaming system’s. Sean had his eye on the new Sony Playstation and the Xbox 360. Plenty of 360’s, no Sony’s anywhere to be found. We both resisted the urge to splurge. Sean did pick up a comedy cd. I can’t remember the comic’s name.
