The main restaurant has all sorts of fish and you just pick your kind and they grill it there..
Of course also there are tables of europeans in bikinis, looking very brown and wrinkly and smoking up a storm…..most of em with some coffee or cap in front fo them or by noon-ish, a bottle of red wine…..
I have to head downtown at some point soon…not cut out for the resort thing….or maybe I should get with the program…
Being in a terribly beautiful place makes me sad for places like haiti that would be beautiful like this but have been torn to shreds….

“Music of Solidarity” Caravans Headed To Indiana To Support Conn-Selmer Strikers – 12/15/06

Activists from several unions are packing caravans with support for 231 striking UAW workers at Conn-Selmer’s musical instruments plant in Elkhart, Indiana. Steve Zeltzer of the Operating Engineers in San Francisco is helping with the caravans.
[Zeltzer 1]: “People are bringing food, they’re bringing toys, solidarity statements – from St. Louis, from Peoria, Illinois, from Chicago, from Detroit, from Decatur, Illinois.”
UAW Local 364 has been on strike for eight months in a fight to defend their pensions and their health care while resisting outsourcing to China.
[Zeltzer 2]: “These people who run these companies are all working together against labor, against workers to defeat their unions. It’s not just Elkhart, it’s Detroit, it’s San Francisco – it’s in many places. So we have to wake on this holiday season, all workers, and build a united fight to defend our lives.”

A neighbor just took in a miniature horse that has been so neglected it’s pitiful. Thaddeus is missing an eye, has cushions disease, his ears are chewed up from flies and it’s so sad. The vet said people buy these miniatures and think they’re like dogs and not equine. Thaddeus landed in one of the nicest barns around, so the rest of his life will be heaven. He may have to go to Auburn vet school to have the eye socket cleaned out of all eye tissue and, hopefully, sewn shut. It’s rather grotesque, being open and all.

Nick, you should continue. I just find that the small MP3 file I can save ala Air America Premium and listen to works best for me. My connections seem choppy and streaming is often crippled as you might recall from some of your shows.
The variety of delivery gives folks a chance to work with what is best for them.

Actually, what everybody should be supporting is open source software. Just about everything I use is open source, no matter what platform it runs on. Of course, you can’t be in the IT field and ignore Microsoft, and I have access to the software, so I make use of it. But every time somebody doesn’t know how to open a certain file type, it isn’t automatically the fault of the operating system. Personally, I hate to be tied into anybody’s proprietary crap.
Re 159, I have taken to compressing my live shows and the Marc Maron shows such that the file is relatively small. It’s nice that we live in a country where we have a choice as to what companies to support. I hope that freedom awaits future generations and that the reds have not taken complete control of our world. We may all be living underground if that happens as we have witnessed with our own eyes what is happening to our enviornment as a result of burning fossil fuels.

I am somewhat retahded tech wise and still I am much more comfortable in the Windows environment. If I had the time to invest I would do what PJ says and go opened source but I have enough challenges right now.
Well, I don’t know if mac or pc makes any difference here either, cnick and pj. I have a mac at home (but on dialup, so that lets out a lot of audio and video file use), but no choice at work, where they give us pc’s.

Well … Most of the parts for PCs including MAC’s are made in China .. OSX is just a version of Debian ( I think) that MAC put their own face on.. The only different thing about MACS was that they ran on Power PC parts which made them considerably faster thatn an Intel machine with the same clock rate
Open source is the way to go put Linux on your MAC and it will run with same querks as my Dell

I have a problem with the iTunes store. All the files are encoded as m4p format, which limits the number of copies that can be made. It also limits their use to being played on an iPod. Since I use my Treo for mp3s, I have no reason to buy from the ITunes store. I just have to wait for Myspace to start their sales, or just continue to be a pirate ARRRR!

If you don’t know how to subscribe, then just open the Sam Seder Show link in your web browser, and click on the segment links. They are in mp3 format.
OS X uses BSD Linux It was an open kernel prior to the intel versions (meaning you could modify it if you wanted to), but now it’s proprietary, because they are terrified of it being able to run on IBM PC architecture. Remember, Apple is a hardware company.

The thing I like about Apple Macs is that you can boot Windows on a Mac. You cannot boot OSX on a PC. So I don’t understand why (except for price) people do not purchase a $919.00 Intel IMAC. Then you can add you’re precious Windows operating system to the Mac. And you can boot Linux as well. Opps, sorry . . . I said I wasn’t gonna say anything else. :doh:
I guess, for me, the thing is that I have no desire to boot OS X. I really wanted to like the GUI (went to a bunch of pre-launch events and everything), but I just don’t find it appealing. Had to support them a bit, and tried to like it (figured I just needed to get used to it; I supported a few older ones, too), but, well, it just never did anything for me. And the damn things weren’t the bullet-proof, no glitches, never crashing (actually, they don’t crash so much as they lock up) boxes I’d been led to believe they were.
I could encode all my files as mp3’s on my site if I so desired. It is my choice. As for the Apple iTunes store: I do not like the limitations either. But there are artists out there who’s work is pirated (stolen). Hence, file sharing programs like Bearshare! It is easy enough for someone like me to workaround the iTunes limitations. The typical buyer is not willing to jump through those hoops. I sort of doubt that any limitations will stand the will of a teen. They are more tech savy than many working for Apple. I like my Mac. I’ve had far fewer problems since moving from Windows to OSX and the IMAC. I do not miss Windows. Not at all. But I am a curious person. So when Apple offered up bootcamp I jumped at the chance to boot Windows on my Apple machine. And I plan on buying a copy of Vista when it comes out early next year. This is as geeky as I get.

I think the problem anybody has is the embedding, not the file format (although it’s hard to be sure, w/o being there). Especially on a corporate computer where the ability to add plugins can be limited. But m4a doesn’t require anything special, except that the codec is installed.
No software is bug proof, OSX, Windows or Linux. Linux was an oddity and so I’ve installed it as a virtual machine on my Apple IMAC. But once its there . . .then what? I mean . . . so! It looks different and it has all these nice GUI’s. But where is the software I need to do my work? Must I surf all over the internet to find it?
I like it that OSX comes with programs that work “for me”, not “against me”. I use “Garageband” to record my podcasts, copy Maron subbing for Sedar from my XM radio, add music to my video’s . . . then I import all to iWeb where all of my web pages are created. All Apple Macs come with Garageband, iMovieHD, iWeb, iPhoto and iDVD. These programs are a blessing for anyone wanting to use a software suite to work seamlessly and in harmony together to produce an audio or video podcast and deliver it to the web.
It would be nice if Microsoft would include a package like that in Vista.
It’s great that you’re happy with Mac, and you find it the best way to do what you want to do. That’s really what it’s all about.
Well all the software in the world does not matter if what one is offering isn’t any good. I recognize that I have a limited audience. Some people would find listening to my podcast excruciating. But my target audience is really more the gay community and anyone just curious about my daily life experiences.

RE 179: Hey Nick, for me it’s price and horsepower (I should say price/horsepower ratio). I use my computer for my work but I built it to play games. Flight/space sims and FPS are my drugs of choice, which to play them in all their bump mapped, Gouraud shaded, FSAA’d glory without dropping below 30 frames/sec takes serious power. The newer Mac’s are fast, but I can build a kiiler machine for less money.
Well that and all the good games are made for windows
