For those of you celebrating the holiday today, I hope Santa was good to you. I think his sleigh got stuck in the mud, here. No white Christmas in the ‘Cuse, but we’re finally supposed to get a little snow tomorrow, they say, which would give us a white Kwanzaa. Somewhat ironic, doncha think?

Merry and Happy to all and to all a good morning

Some sad news, James Brown died early this morning of pneuminia.
Sue P,
When I heard JB on NPR while sleeping singing something besides ‘Santa Claus, Go Straight To The Ghetto’, I knew it was not good news and now I am up for good (or bad)).
I first saw the Godfather of Soul when I was in HS in VA with two of my best friends. We pretty much shown out in our whiteness but it was in no way uncomfortable. It was at one of the many peaks of his career, the Say It Proud era.
Later I would be involved with a reissue of his classic Live at the Apollo LP. At first, my friends who were doing the LP got an angry call from JB’s camp demanding that they cease and desist. My friends had done everything by the book with the people who controlled the material but some guy named Al Sharpton was calling to try to stop it. After another couple of calls JB ended up on the phone and after a long conversation, he was actually agreeing to do promotional appearances and shows in support. One of those in-stores I helped with in Oakland and we estimated over 500 people showed up. Mr. Brown leaned over the autograph table to kiss most of the ladies and children.
Years later I was at one of our SF (shhh! Druid, it’s xmas and no one will see) Towers that was managed by a guy named James Brown and a limo pulled up outside. One of the younguns in the store came into the back room saying that there was some Black dude in a limo looking for the manager. With curiosity I walked out to the parking lot and found JB hanging out in the back seat greeting some folks from the projects that used to be across the street (until an earthquake allowed ‘urban development’ to wield its eraser) who had drifted past. I asked him what he was up to and he told me he heard that there was another James Brown in town managing a Tower and he just wanted to stop by and say hello.
He had some tough times but he was something else. If you can find it today, listen to ‘Let’s Make Christmas Mean Something This Year”, another xmas song he did.
RIP, Soul Brother #1!
Thank you for that wonderful story, wvmc3d. :fist:
Peace,
😥 Wow. An icon for all generations. James Brown will be missed. 😥
Merry Christamas to all! I wish I had something profound to say but I didn’t sleep worth a darn last night so my brain isn’t quite up to speed.
Have some coffee, Andy :joe: But don’t put kahlua in it like I am
Merry Christmas Krista! :pup:
Has anyone else seen this? My mom sends me so much crap, I really don’t pay attention to very much of it. She spams me worse than anyone! This was typed in a huge ass font and actually has a source mentioned.
So what r u up to today, Andy?
None of the friggin radio stations are playing any James Brown. If they weren’t all fully automated they could respond to this tragedy. Stupid Clear channel!:fu:
I will be going to my brother’s a little later. I’ve got to get some laundry done first. As an aside channel 17 is playing the yule log. Man I haven’t seen that in ages.
I think that email is a hoax or a trick
I tried to do laundry yesterday but the stupid machine that puts credit on the laundry card wasn’t working and the other laundry matt’s parking lot was full except for a damned SUV taking up 2 spots!:fu: So now i have a stinky dog pillow smelling up my car til I can get back to the laundry matt.
So I called the local butt rock station to see if they’d play some freakin’ James Brown and the dj there didn’t even know he died and said he didn’t think they had any James Brown in the computer. That’s like, not having a gallon of water in the car when you’re driving across Death Valley in July. You Know?? 🙄
I heard about Brown last night on BBC.
:smack: boy, I’m kinda cranky this morning, aren’t I?? Well, here ya go, :peace::santacool::menorah::gate::cool::bong::cat::pup:
Merry and Happy Christmas to the Seditionists!
Hope it is a wonderful day for all of you.
We lost a music giant today. Let’s all crank up the JB and do a little dance.
:sammy:
Well I’ve got to get ready to go to mein bruder’s. Have a liberally progressive day everyone. You don’t seem too cranky Krista.
3HMFs.

Greetings from a snowy place in Washington. It’s beautiful here. Drove over two mountain passes yesterday. Some bonehead tried to pass a snowplow we were following and the idiot became blinded by the billowing snow, so he hits the brakes on his whale-killer car (read “Japanese”), and spun out and crossed lanes right in front of us. I was able to avoid hitting him…somehow. Studded snow tires are the only way to go over here. The guy hit the guard rail but appeared ok – unless someone behind us hit him. People do the darndest things…like vote republican.
Spoke to mr fk this a.m. He is in Bethlehem and over the phone I heard the calls to prayer from the mosque in the nativity square. It was lovely.
Hope all of you have a peaceful day. :jesus:
R.I.P Mr. Brown. You brought many smiles to me.
(and Thanks for the stories, wv.)
Sheeez Kat that would have made for a bummer of a holiday season . Does M$NBC not know about Christmas.??:???::spank:
:yawn::yawn::yawn::joe::joe::joe::shock:
he was supposed to have been home three weeks ago. new$ never sleeps. He’ll be home for New Years, though….I think.
Oh, my folks and I are going over to some Jewish friends’ house for holiday dinner. Take THAT, Bill-O! :nana:
:santacool::santacool: Every one have a good day time to go get ready to feed all those forgotten by our sociopathic society today .. :santacool::santacool:
Hello all, hope you’re all enjoying and/or surviving these ‘holidays’. Yesterday they were saying James Brown was hospitalized for pneumonia, and scheduled to do a concert tour. Can you imagine being deatlhy ill and expected to get up on a stage and make thousands feel it was worth their while to pay for tickets to see you perform? If anyone could have done it, it would be him. RIP, Mr. B. :fist:
Wishing all you Seditionists a joyous day, whatever your spiritual stripes. It’s a day off work, right? (Well, for most of us, anyway.)
So what did you all think of Marc’s week on Sam’s show? Does it sound to you like something is cooking at AAR to bring him back? Does it also sounds like he’s just daring them to fuck with him again?
Imagine what a great start to 2007 that would be. :yippee:
I put up some James Brown footage at my blog, along with the famous “James Brown’s Celebrity Hot Tub Party” bit from SNL.
That was great, Bril! I hadn’t seen that. :yippee:
ok well i won my fantasy football league! and now i am getting an xbox 360…… merry christmas everybody! im going to eat some beef sticks and shoot people……
Now on to the feats of strength!
Gonna read the posts after a little while… still have family things to do.
My brother finally got into town last night around 10:30. Dad hung the star, pajamas were handed out, and ornaments were finally finished. Today, most things went well…. Oh, last night I found out that my mom has not six (6) but ELEVEN (11!!!) cats downstairs. 5 of the kittens who were WAITING to be adopted were finally integrated with the 6 downstairs cats (who all were stray cat kittens as well).
Oh, and the two bathroom cats are still there. And yes. They’re in the bathroom. JUST the bathroom. Upstairs.
I got Season 5 of 24 so I’m almost ready for the new season to start my podcast. A little worried about how to deal with it.. there are some sites (Blogs 4 Bauer) that see and TALK about 24 through VERY republican eyes…. with the torture bill going through and the Heritage Foundation presentation with the creators/actors… I’ve gotta find a neutral-to-snarkily-liberal frame to put around it.
And come up with some snappy gimmicks.
Back to some stress smoking/crocheting.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!! If you’ve heard my last GNC then you know how I feel about all of you!!! Talk more later.
 Kristin!!
Hey everyone….I made it through….went and picked up Ben and they are happily in the back room with the wii and Im finally looking at my mail from the past week….
Merry Christmas
One of these under everyone’s tree:

Ham and potatoes are awaiting me upstairs!!!
Hey Andy!
Oh! And I’m drinking my favorite beer that I haven’t had in over a year! Moose Drool, made in Missoula!
…and I just made my way down to the tape of the sopranos finale and now am onto the big love finale….
PG if you are lucky enough to have such a great family experience on xmas rather than spending every moment figuring how youre gonna adjust your meds when you get home, htat is so great…cherish it…..its rare!
Just what I’ve always wanted. A walking robotic fart machine – WebHubble, you shouldn’t have! Seriously.
Ok, what is it about Christmas Day and laundry? Thirteen units in my building, and eveyone else seems to have saved their laundry for today. Just like me. Took me forever to get one load in the washer, now I’ve been waiting over an hour since it’s been done to get it into the dryer. I’m going to fall asleep before it ever finishes drying. I’ll just have to leave it in overnight. But hey, I’m going to see Maron tomorrow night at Cobb’s, so I’ve gotta have some clean underwear, and it’s too cold to be washing the undies in the sink. tmi, I know, but I wanted it to be known here that I’m doing my best to make myself presentable tomorrow. I’ve been debating whether I should bring a container of my homemade butternut squash coconut curry soup to give him. He doesn’t really know me, so I’m hesitant. Any thoughts, anyone?
Painting Girl, the link to the Moose Drool page wouldn’t open on my computer, but I love the name! Ok, I’m starting to fade, getting really tired all of a sudden. One more trip down the basement to see if the dryer is free yet, I sure hope so. Back in two secs.
Melina— Yeah. No family illnesses this year thus far…
Here’s the CORRECT link for the brewing company… They have a GREAT list of names for their beers. And it’s from Montana so… of course it’s great.
Also, Melina… you’ve checked up on all the Wii controller crap right? Extra strength velcro or hair scrunchy stretch stuff… You prob. already know about that though…
Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays everyone! Love you all and so happy that I’m allowed to be in this great community!!!
:fire:!
ex,
I haven’t figured out my fashion statement for Cobb’s so I will look for someone carrying a container of soup tomorrow.
PGKB, I love Moose Drool!
Happy Holidays almost over to all!
JB, see you on the other side. You left us a plenty for now.
Guess I’m glad I never found time to bake cookies…:crap:
Look at this!
Alright wv, see you tomorrow at Cobb’s. I guess I”m looking for a bald guy (you did say you’re bald, right?). If there’s more than one bald guy, look for the soup lady – I’m short, with close cropped hair (cut it myself, as an experiment, last time I cut it that short). Will wear a long dark green coat and black beret most likely. All I’ll know to greet you by will be “wv”…
Thank you for that link PG. I like the logos for the different beers. I’m a fan of very light pale beers (ones like Stella Artois, Singha, Tsing Tao; can go with a light Hefenweiz on occasion). So which Big Sky beers are very light – do you think the Crystal Ale? I haven’t noticed these out here in San Fran, don’t know if they carry them here.:alc:
Oop. Here comes Samsara the cat onto my lap :billcat:
If I were you I would be more worried about hyped up salmon.
Balding and gray and if it stays cold, probably in a black corduroy coat. If it rain, again black but go figure, someone wearing black at a club in SF.
Sblue, are you going to be at Cobb’s tomorrow night? There was someone else here besides wv who said she was going to be there tomorrow night, but now I can’t remember who it was.
Anyway, as luck would have it, Marc just emailed all of us about coming to Cobb’s, which gave me the opportunity to tell him I’m bringing the soup. Don’t know how easy it’s going to be to give it to him, though, since he says he’s part of a lineup of performers, not soloing. We’ll see.
Okey doke, wv. I’ll look forward to hoising either a brew or a warm tody-like drink, I’ll see. Are you and your friend going for dinner in N. Beach beforehand?
Hey, aside from dioxin- and mercury-laced salmon, I think it’s creepy there’s caffeine residue at 640 feet deep in Puget Sound. But why would we expect otherwise. Like they say in the article, if you pour it down the drain, it’s gotta come out somewhere. :omg:
Samsara the cat purring on my lap. Nice. :cat:
Hey wv, and any other Cobbs-bound folks, we’ll see if the rain they’ve been predicting finally arrives tomorrow. As of right now, the weatherunderground.com site is forecsting heavy rain at times and possible thunderstorms, “breezy” at 20-30mph, temps in the 40’s. Flash flood watch too. Maybe I’d better wear my rubber waders and rain poncho. Won’t look too fashionable but I’ll stay dry and warm. Better make mine a hot toddy tomorrow night :joe:
From : Marc Maron Cobb’s Comedy Club San Fran tonight and tomorrow
Merry and Happy days to you, folks-
Thanks for listening in on the guest hosting week I just did for Seder. I had a
great time. Maybe there is a future for me in radio. That said–
Just a reminder that Mishna and I will be appearing at Cobb’s Comedy Club in San
Francisco Tuesday and Wednesday December 26th and 27th. These are showcase shows
which means there will be a bunch of comics doing about the same amount of time.
I believe Mish is hosting and I know that Carlos Alazraqui from Reno 911 will be
there one of the nights. I heard that Tony Camin and Doug Benson of The
Marijuanalogues will be there one or both nights. Here’s a bit of trivia–back
in I believe ’93 I came in second to Carlo’s first in the SF Comedy Competition.
Patton Oswalt was fifth.
See you there if you come,
Love,
Maron
I am sooooooo Jealous … even hubby got to go in L.A.LALand a few times. I hear Marc gives great hugs. I guess I need to contact HSU — :roll:RATS
My eyelids are closing whenever I pause in my typing. Time to climb up into bed (loftbed). Might just have to let the laundry sit in the dryer overnight, I”m too tired to go downstairs and get it now. Goodnight all, and thanks for blogging!:yawn::yawn:
wvmc3d I was trying to get out of making an apology, but then I saw you. If you are still there, I am sorry I “danced” right past your comment …
I only use (and constantly yelled at by several because I like the lil screen) I finally enlarged the screen and another funny…anyway whether a small screen or large (re “…Englishman…) :rofl2::rofl2::hubba::rofl2::rofl2: 😉
I finally had a touch of the “emerald and gold” from the emerald tri and it was the first time I used my iPOD. It Rocked! (Huh Susan Joy?) I L:OST CONTROL. Although still doing eveything with a beat (ie with iPOD) …”I’ve got to keep control…(from Rocky Horror)
I look forward to a meet’n and a play’n at the P&S….now did you ask when they may be a hav’n a bit of the “gold” ie The Harp)?
guess it hasn’t been a very Merry Christmas. First the loss of the Godfather of Soul and now this
well, in any case, if you did celebrate today, or had a day two of Festivus (:slap:Feats of Strength), i hope you had a great day :santacool:
stay warm Seditionists!!!:cold::banana:
