So, the sense of the Senate seems to be that more cannon fodder for Iraq is a bad thing. Except Joe Lieberman, of course. And Hillary is coming up with some kind of talking out both sides of her mouth bullshit, where she doesn’t wanting to limit funding for “out troops,” but she wants to limit money for Iraqi forces if they don’t do what we tell them to, the goddamn ingrates (makes you wonder why we even bothered to liberate them in the first place). I really hope she decides not to run. I hope Obama decides not to, too. He’s just a slightly darker (and younger) version of your typical DLC posturer, IMHO. I guess if Gore won’t run, I’ll have to go with Edwards. Maybe and Edwards – Clark ticket. But it’s all way too early to start obsessing about that (and now Florida is gonna move it’s primaries to January? Oy). Another warmish day here, I guess – supposed to hit the upper thirties (ah, I remember my upper thirties; those were the days). The poor geese don’t know what the hell to do. Every day, I see them either flying north, or back south again (bitching like hell at the the head guy, too, “fly south, he says. It’s gonna get cold he says. Wait, now we gotta go back north again. It’s too warm. Back and forth. All I know is, I’m flappin’ my fucking wings off, and we aint gettin’ anywhere”). Well, whichever direction you’re headed today, stay warm.
Snow in Malibu? I look forward to the bloviaters making that out to a “They get what they deserve” spin like the fires last week.
May be snowing in SF today!? Hope so. We deserve it.:cold::penguin:

‘Total Bull’ That Congress Can’t Stop Bush Iraq Escalation Plan Says John Edwards Campaign
In a harshly worded fund raising letter sent to members of John Edwards’s 2008 presidential campaign e-mail list late this afternoon, his new Campaign Manager, former Congressman David Bonior (D-MI), holds little back in his sharp criticism of both George W. Bush and Democratic members of Congress for their Iraq War policies and politics.

Give us guns – and troops can go, says Iraqi leader
America’s refusal to give Baghdad’s security forces sufficient guns and equipment has cost a great number of lives, the Iraqi Prime Minister said yesterday.
Nouri al-Maliki said the insurgency had been bloodier and prolonged because Washington had refused to part with equipment. If it released the necessary arms, US forces could “dramatically” cut their numbers in three to six months, he told The Times.

Franken Seeks Advice for Possible Bid
WASHINGTON — Comedian Al Franken has reached out to Democratic lawmakers from Minnesota in recent days, seeking advice on a possible Senate run against Republican Sen. Norm Coleman next year.
Franken, a veteran of “Saturday Night Live” and radio show host, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he’s called all of the Democrats in the delegation.
“I didn’t call Coleman,” he deadpanned. “I want to mainly touch base and get advice and counsel on certain issues.”

Apple reports record profits ($1 billion)
Apple (AAPL) reported record quarterly earnings Wednesday, including 21 million iPods sold — but investors weren’t impressed.
Revenue of $7.1 billion was up 25% from a year ago and topped Wall Street expectations. IPod sales jumped 50%, while sales of Mac computers rose 28% from a year ago.
But the number of Macs sold — 1.6 million — was about the same as in the previous quarter, when back-to-school sales bolster volume. Investors responded by pushing the stock down $1.04 in after-hours trading to $93.91.
Apple reported $1 billion in net income in its first fiscal quarter ended Dec. 30, or $1.14 per share. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected earnings of 78 cents per share and revenue of $6.4 billion.

Disaster Fund Is Said to Be Nearly Empty
The federal government’s biggest program to help people rebuild after natural disasters is on the verge of running out of money because of budgeting problems at the agency that runs it, the Small Business Administration.
If Congress does not intervene in the next month or so to cover the administrative costs of the program, it will have to shut down, according to an internal agency memorandum given to The New York Times by a critic of the agency.
Agency officials say, and Congressional leaders agree, that the legislature will almost certainly act to keep the program running. “It would be very surprising to us if they wouldn’t address this,” said Steven C. Preston, the administrator of the S.B.A.
But even a temporary shutdown could delay aid to victims of the ice storms in the Midwest and other recent natural disasters, and would further hamper a program that was widely criticized for its slow response to the hurricanes that hit the Gulf Coast in 2005.

Just for the record, I DID write to ABC during the boycott to inform them about what I was doing and why. When I pulled the plug, I did it because it was I decided I was punishing myself by not watching a show that I really like than I was punishing ABC by not watching it.
I understand everyone’s points about Glenn Beck and Spocko, and I will write to ABC yet again this weekend to protest Beck’s hiring for GMA, which is not a show that I typically watch anyway. Beyond that, I’m going to do what I want.
Dennis Kucinich is going to be on Stephanie Miller’s show Friday. Not sure when, but hopefully it will be during the 2nd hour so that it doesn’t overlap with Marc on the Sammy show.
I’m going to be taking some time off from this blog. Later, all.

Hey, Marc and Wonkette doing a show called The Gaggle at the Aspen Comedy Festival. Maybe it’ll turn into a regular show on HBO. If we write enough cards and letter, anyway. I mean, look how well the MS Petition worked (not to mention how effective the ABC boycott has been).

Hey, Kevin…why are you taking a break from this blog? No one is mad at your for watching or not watching Boston Legal….I just liked that show before they switched it from the watery eyed Dylan McDermott show….but then in came Alan and screwed the whole thing up…..oh well…

Anyway, if you leave here Ill miss y ou and your humor and input….please dont leave.

Oh, I don’t know that it’ll ever actually be on HBO (though you’d think some of the performances might make it on – don’t recall seeing any from last year, but I don’t know if HBO was involved last year, either). You’ll just have to go to Aspen to see it.
Thanks Melina! That would be great. Money is rapidly becoming a major issue in my house.
thanks for the great sites. See you soon. 881 :yippee:
Ooh, more information. Get ready to start inundating HBO with e-mails, faxes, postcards and letters. Finally, a booblehead alternative!
Aw. Art Buchwald finally died.

Buchwald-My first political funny. He helped a lot through that Nixon nightmare.
HBO? Dammit, don’t make me get cable. I think PJ would for a weekly booblehead segment. We still need daily Marc.
Kevin, I hope it wasn’t something I did or didn’t say. It has been a little quiet here lately. Don’t be a stranger. I will think of you when I watch Shatner and Spader on the balcony but you can’t have Candice.
Kevin…Noooooooo!:spank:

Andy, if you decide to go with Echostar/Dish Network, drop me an e-mail. I can usually get gift cards that get you free installation and other goodies and I get five bucks a month off for referring a customer. I’ve been with them 7 years and have been very pleased.
I think Frankenfart and Olephant are going to have join the ranks of the people you put in the room with the three guys in ski masks and sweat shirts with automatic weapons who analyze their responses and yell WRONG ANSWER IDIOT while firing their rifles into the ceiling.:yuck::yuck::rant1::reaper::reaper:

Methodist ministers: No Bush Library at Southern Methodist University
DALLAS (AP) — A group of Methodist ministers from across the nation launched an online petition drive Thursday urging Southern Methodist University to stop trying to land George W. Bush’s presidential library.
The petition, on a newly created Web site, http://www.protectsmu.org , says that “as United Methodists, we believe that the linking of his presidency with a university bearing the Methodist name is utterly inappropriate.”
“Methodists have a long history of social conscience, so questions about the conduct of this president are very concerning,” said one of the petition’s organizers, the Rev. Andrew J. Weaver of New York, who graduated from SMU’s Perkins School of Theology….
SMU emerged as the apparent winner in the library competition last month when the site selection committee said it was entering into further discussions with just SMU, the 11,000-student, private university, which is first lady Laura Bush’s alma mater.
Some SMU professors have opposed Bush’s foreign policy, mainly the war in Iraq. Faculty members also have complained that the library complex’s think tank dedicated to the philosophy of the Bush administration would hurt the school’s reputation….

New Pentagon detainee manual could lead to executions based on ‘hearsay evidence’
According to a breaking report on MSNBC, a new Pentagon detainee manual could allow executions based on “hearsay evidence.”
“We have learned that the Pentagon has just completed a manual for the coming detainee trials that would allow suspected terrorist to be imprisoned or executed using hearsay evidence or coerced testimony,” said Nora O’Donnell, the chief Washington correspondent for NBC News’ 24-hour cable news network. “In other words, could be put to death on hearsay evidence…”

I appreciate all the sympathy in which I am wallowing as I try to be patient and optomistic about having my little laptop arrive on my doorstep on Monday.
I am also trying to be grateful for the cranky, slow and finicky machines that I am using while my poor little laptop is away.
I just saw Colbert on O’Reilly. Colbert was masterful. Of course, O’Reilly gave him a huge assist by being a jerk.
Then O’Reilly had a segment with 2 loons discussing The Daily Show and the Colbert Report.
O’Reilly will be on Colbert’s show this evening.
According to Keith Olbermann, O’Reilly said today (or yesterdaymaybe) that the older boy who was found kidnapped probably stayed there because he wanted to…afterall he didnt have to go to school….
The parents report that the kid wont talk much bu that they think he was sexually abused.
O’Reilly has so crossed over into the disgusting realm that I cant even fathom how they can justify keeping him on.
I guess that tomorrow Ill write to his network and tell them what I think….
re 66 Al announced this at the very end of his show today and was all broken up about it. Is going to say more tomorrow.
On KPOJ Clear Channel it rolled right into an inane commercial forQuickbooks as I remember.
I got a dell XPS 410 with a very big supersharp screen. The Dell highest level of XPS service techs are based in Austin…..at least for now.
It seems that Michael Dell is finally realizing that its really a drag to have to call India and do that whole India thing if the endless testing…
Here is colbert on OLielly
I just think that at this point, Olielly is so noxious that he should be off the air.
He is actually gonna suggest that a minor child rape and kidnap victim enjoyed his incarceration? Im really offended.
I dunno, are dummies in Texas any better than dummies in India? My brother had a problem with his kid’s Dell a couple weeks ago, and all they (and they were in Texas) wanted to tell him was to reformat the hard drive and restore. And, in a shocking development, he said that Microsoft tech support was great, and helped him out tremendously. Me, I stick with PJS Designs tech support.

A few hours before Franken spoke about Andrea Parhamovich, Thom Hartmann mentioned her passing with equal sadness but Al was very choked up and it just dropped in all of the sudden. I actually heard somebody mention it even earlier in the morning somewhere without giving out the name and names were not out there for a long time. I will be very interested in hearing more of the details of this story if we are allowed. I would almost bet that we are going to see someone who is no longer able to defend herself getting trashed.
Anyway, Harry Shearer is on Letterman so maybe I will get a short smile to end this sad day. No snow here yet but there is still hope, I think. I don’t want to move to Malibu or Trinidad. :cold:
