Little bit snowy and blowy out there this morning. No big deal, ordinarily, but as mild as it’s been here this year, it’s kinda nice to get something a bit more seasonable.
This shit’s gotta stop. Ordinarily, I’m somewhat dubious as to the efficacy of demonstrations, but the one coming up next weekend is a chance to provide political cover to our “representatives” to cut off the funding for this escalation, and to stop the madness. It’s more than cover. It’s a way to show these people that there will be consequences to defying the will of the people. I won’t be in DC next week, because somebody has to stay here and take care of the animals, but Granny and Junior will be there. If you can’t make it, then there’s probably something going on close to you, so get out there and make your voice heard. This is a chance to do more than bitch. And, for once, I think it can really make a difference – not in influencing dubya, ‘cuz he doesn’t give a shit. But in providing a little bit of a backbone for our congress critters.

Fox smears Sen. Obama, says he ‘covered up’ Muslim past
Fox News Channel’s morning program Fox & Friends pointed to a report on Friday that Sen. Barack Obama had attended a Muslim ‘madrasa’ while living in Indonesia as a 6-year-old child.
Host Steve Doocy went on to highlight Obama’s middle name, Hussein, and questioned whether Obama was indoctrinated in extremist Muslim doctrine.

Hi, fred.
So what implications does this part of the Ethics bill concerning bloggers having to be registered as lobbyists have ??.. Why was that in there .. why has no one reported on it .??. Are the demodorps just a smoke screen to hide more sinister acts ??:fu::fu::fu::fu::rant1::reaper::reaper:
re #7 I think that got tossed.
The fact that these Reich wing talkers still exist in such great numbers and still command a 10x audience when compared to liberal.. err.. lefty .. err ..left of them at least talkers is most disturbing..
Is Limppricks studio in a reinforced concrete bunker ??:tommygun::tommygun::reaper::reaper:
It occurred to me that that addition to the Ethics bill might be a thug attempt to put in something to see if anyone was reading what they were voting on .so they could use it against the Demororps later on.:fu::fu::eek::rant1::reaper::crap::shock:.

New (to me) Maron dates on his MySpace site (666 made me look). Upcoming in LA, Aspen, Philly, SF, and Austin.
Hi Druid! Well, he could do the “lifting” but getting him to actually do it takes great effort on my part.
there’s a chainsaw party (scary thought down here in the south) at that 66 year old’s house where we rescued the goats. I also forgot about Richardson a little. There are a lot of selections on the buffet. I think that the sudden Obama ascendence is smoking everyone out in panic that he could run away with it. This could be a good thing. Good advocacy voices in the media. Also maybe a lot of the blindside opposition research attacks could be aired out and we end up with a ‘clean’ unassailable candidate. I just hope it doesn’t end up as a big ‘eat our own’ scenario.
fred, stay warm and duck. It looks like this one might not be so bad but who knows what Druid will deal to drive you to CA to join the anti-Ahnold crusade.
Morning. all. Druid, while you’re at it would you send some snow to NYC? Please do it on a weekday, so they close the schools. Thanks.
I’ve been thinking about next weekend’s Washington March. Really conflicted about it. It’s a long drive, I’d have to make arrangements for the animals and then I have to go to work – exhausted.
This morning’s video was depressing. We’ve done this all before. Why are there always folks who support this crap?
The liberal blogisphere seems to provide most of us with a rather slanted view of how the political process works .. Lamont was a great example where he was a candidate that had a great deal of support out here in the blogishere and went down to defeat when the idiots ( translated voters) got hold of him .
What really happened to Howard Dean ?? Did NBC sink him or did the DLC sink him..

US companies employing civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan have refused to settle workers’ compensation and medical benefit claims for hundreds of war-zone injuries that range from back pain to post-traumatic stress.
A Globe review of rulings by administrative judges that resolve disputed claims found that Halliburton Co., DynCorp International, and other US contractors have been ordered to pay millions of dollars in compensation to workers whose claims they initially denied. In some cases, the companies had fought the claims for years even though their own doctors agreed that a worker had been injured.

Oh, it’s twoo, it’s twoo.
Most definitely if you think of all the references to democracy in the Reich’s literature and speech it is capitalism/corporatism they are referring to not control of the government by the will of the people .. seems to be working quite well unfortunately .. :gate::omg::jason::jason::fist:
I would discount anything the Reich has to say but Ploser was also on C-span telling us we were the greatest country on earth and referring to the Iraqi’s as the enemy and making Iran into the new threat to our freedoms ( translated oil supply).
If one can not recognize the problem one will never fix it .:gate::omg::jason::fist:
It’s corporatism, not capitalism. They pretend to be capitalists and free marketeers (giving both a bad name), but they aren’t. They are no more capitalists than Stalin was a socialist.
Speaking of capitalism, there appears to be a generic drug with great promise in cancer treatment. Of course the drug compainies are not funding the research..no patent, no profit..which needs to be done.
http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn10971
You are right they have perverted the word capitalism .. Free markets with lots of vendors with the same or at least quite similar economic conditions seemed to work a lot better than central planning . Demonizing the Soviet Union and the resulting arms race may have also lead to the failure of that system rather than it not working as is so often portrayed by the Reich .:crap::rant1:
The only thing that “Free trade ” as we now have it does is fill the pockets of the corporations by promoting the use of low priced labor over seas.. I would think that India and China don’t really have to trade with the SBR to have there own economies flourish . The rise of the SBR’s middle class made our economy what it was .. we did not have a whole lot of help from the Europeans except to get it started. India and China both have more than enough people to do the same thing
The only thing closing the borders would do is make the corporate profits and the crap shoot reflect the purchasing power and the economic condition of Americans not of the whole world .. Doing it instantly would not be pretty however,.:yuck::barf::crap::reaper::reaper:
The blog
Is constipated again
Good Morning :joe: Wow, that little exchange between Lieberman and Imus should be passed around to ALL of his constituents. These people are as good at planning as the managers at my crap ass job. And that’s not saying much at all, at all. :growl:
The problem is that any system – economic, government, legal, whatever – no matter how brilliantly conceived, falls apart when you introduce humans into the mix. As soon as you introduce something, a few thousand people will be out there looking for the loopholes, trying to figure out how they can get an advantage and screw everybody else over.
The industrial revolution really screwed over the free market idea, because only the people with enough capital to buy the machines could afford to produce stuff, and there was no longer a “free” labor market for tradespeople.
Frankly, I can’t figure out why the shitty jobs pay the least. They should pay the most, to encourage people to do them. It ought to be the guy (or gal) rubbin’ those fenders with a rag at the car wash getting the big bucks, not some schmuck sittin’ in an air conditioned office in a swivel chair, talkin’ some trash to the secretaries, sayin’ hey now mama, c’mon over here. Sorry, channeled Jim Croce for a second.
Socialism sounds nice (I lean in that direction myself), but we have to make a commitment to providing everybody with the minimum necessary in life – food, a clean, safe space to call their own, healthcare, education, etc. Then I still don’t know how you get people to do the shitty jobs, other than to just rotate people in and out of everything. Not sure you want to rotate in a new batch of surgeons, just when they start to get the hang of it, though. And what about people who are just naturally good at things – musicians, artists, bricklayers, whatever? Do they get a dispensation to pursue what they’re best at? And who gets to decide who’s “worthy” or not?
Direct democracy sounds good, too. And increasingly more doable, with technology. But do I really want to be subjected to the whims of the majority? I mean, imagine the legislation that would have passed after 9/11 (hell, the USA PATRIOT act – and everything that followed – was bad enough). I mean, shit, at any given instant – and with the proper marketing – you could get a majority of these wahoos out there to approve damn near anything.
That’s the problem. No matter what you come up with, humans will just come around and fuck it up.
Could anarchy be worse?
The Chinese and the Indian governments for the most part have built and own the means of production and the workers most often work for some government entity.. The markup in prices ( 2000% – 5000% in some cases) for goods exported to the SBR is usually divided among the government and the American corporation under the terms of a contract for services
Most of the goods manufactured in India and China actually go into there local economy’s its just the 20% that they export that makes US corporation’s big money because Americans can be charged a lot more than the Chinese worker can be.:gate::omg::jason::jason:
Yeah, I think so. A little anarchy is good, but too much and you’re subjected to control by the biggest, most corrupt people with the best weapons. Plus, it’s kinda nice that everybody drives on one side of the road, and more or less stops at the red lights.
Colorado’s experiment with direct democracy in the form of the TAx payers Bill Of Rights was a total disaster .. Morons just vote no on everything that sounds like a tax.:gate::omg::jason::fist:
Not sure I want to enter the low end of the Chinese labor market, though. Even the non-slaves. If you look at where they make the iPods and stuff like that, it doesn’t seem too appealing.
The big difference is that the Chinese and Indians are pretty smart, hard-working people, and we sit around watching American Idol, believing that Noah’s flood created the Grand Canyon.
Some people just aren’t gonna vote. And many of those that do, well, they aren’t gonna sit and read all that shit. “Clear Skies” initiative? Shit, that sounds good to me! And there have been propositions on the NYS ballot that are worded in such a way that I’ve had a hard time figuring out if voting “yes” was for it or against it.
Perhaps a parliamentry system would work better than the winner-take-all, gerrymandered democracy we now have.
Yeah, I think a Parliamentary system would be much, much better than what we have now. It would make third (and fourth, fifth…) parties viable, and force them to work together and build coalitions.
I think that all of the different systems of government require vigilance and active participation to work. Our system works great when the people get involved. But we’re too distracted to bother with any of that.
Plus it would go a long way toward showing the folks in these big, empty, red states just how in the minority they really are.
The blog is doing that “thing” again.
Larry O’Donnell was saying the other day that the Senate seats ought to be apportioned based on population, too. I think that’s not a bad idea. In other words, if NH gets one Senator, then CA gets 40, or whatever.
Yeah, I know. It has something to do with reading and writing to the database. It’s just such a hassle to deal with it. Every time I get fed up and motivated to move it, it gets better. Plus, I’m wondering just how much longer it’ll be around. At some point, it will have served its purpose, I reckon, and everybody will move on. Hate to put too much effort in if everybody’s gonna go away.
China is a communist country .. The housing is furnished by the government as is medical care , the transportation system and the utilities ..
The food is grown locally around the large population centers .
The people in the cities usually live with a couple of generations in a three room apartment. The people can buy motorcycles and Ipods and have boom boxes ( maybe only one per family unit)
The government attempts to provide jobs of some sort to every one but with 2 billion peiople .. 😮
There are hardly any paved roads outside of the major cities but they have plenty of railroad passenger service
Air and water pollution in the cities are terrible.
They have food supply problems just like they did in the Soviet Union but corruption is delt with in a most severe manner .
There current economic state is just about that of the SBR in 1906… or in the rust belt of the SBR of today.:rant1:
There’s also a huge difference between the rural and urban areas of China. There’s a tremendous amount of poverty, hunger, and destitution. The government has taken steps to reduce the poverty and inequality in the rural areas – and has made great strides – but it’s getting more difficult, even with the increasing strength of their economy.
Oh, Hillary just sent me an e-mail to tell me that “she’s in – and she’s in to win.” You can “join the conversation” here.
It is hard to believe but with that many people the population density is like 1.5 persons per square mile … There agricultural system is able to feed every one but I think the SBR actually exports grain to them :shock: The transportation system is one of there bigger problems . The government has so far at least resisted building many highways but they do build around 600 miles of new railraod each year,.:shock:
Yeah I saw that Hillery decided to run maybe that will distract the media enough that someone else can run for real . There are still an amazing number of people who don’t know what DLC Demodorps stand for.. err in ..smells like .. .:yuck::crap::rant1:

i love our system of government. I think where we’ve gone wrong is by including corporations under “we the people.” (and maybe electoral college, too, I have to think more about that one.)

Barbara Walters is still alive.... she must be older than dirt by now ,.:yuck::crap:
KP, even the less than fond of apples are jealous. Enjoy that new computer smell. Maybe there will be some complimentary IBooks floating around the Bowl.
Barbara Walters/The View/Rosie O’Donnell/Donald Trump/The Apprentice all swirling around in a big pr “tempest” desperate to boost all of their fortunes. Bless you if you have missed it. Pure M$M and distraction. Not even remotely interesting except for the possible homophobic nature of trump’s contribution.
Born in 1929, according to Wikipedia, so she’s 77. Not a spring chicken, but not too awful old (my definition of “old” gets continuously revised).
Yeah, I’m startin’ to get that urge to put together a new computer (from new parts). What exactly I’d do with it, I dunno. I kinda have more than I need here already.

I don’t disagree. We need the better laxatives and enemas and maybe surgical strikes.
I think maybe we’re doomed to repeat history. We’ve been doing it for thousands of years. 🙁
Oh well, sooner or later that big-ass asteroid will come a-callin’, and some other species will get another crack at things. Unless Global Warming, bird flu (or biowarfare), or nukes take care of us first, of course.
As Roger Waters wrote, “give any one species too much rope and they’ll fuck it up.”
The Bush fanciest state is often compared to the rise of Hitler in Germany .. Events haven’t followed the time line very well ( Hitler came to power in 1932 but didn’t invade anyone until 1938). The US was in essentially the same position that Iran and China are today but built up an army and navy in very short order to counter the threat With all the oil we have to import a conflict in the middle east would mean certain cut off of the oil supply and both Russian and China would enter the conflict and we would be toast ( possibly radioactive burnt toast) it is very important that the thugs not be allowed to come back .:crap::eek::yuck::reaper::reaper:
Fancy state or fascist state, Fred. :rofl2: I wanna live in a fancy state!:dancers:
These rapacious fools will probably accomplish their goals and leave a huge mess that may never be cleaned up. Hopefully, if there is any change in leadership, even if DLC like HRC, it will tell the rest of the world that perhaps this country is ready to approach the rest of the world with something other than a hamfisted and completely militaristic form of ‘diplomacy’. Of course, it will be hard to get that through to the millions of Muslims radicalized by our recent blunders.
There is no hope until this reign of shit is over.
Picking sides? I would take almost anything the Dems offered short of LIEberman. I really hope Gore steps up because I think that he has the stature and gravitas intellect that is needed. Obama could be a message to the World. This is a long haul campaign-wise. I think Gore won’t join the battle if he does until way down the line. It does not matter because he is pretty much known and his reputation only grows with what he does now.
I love blog typos and hold them against no one. They add some humour. Someone accidentally called someone a ho the other day. I like the ‘fanciest’ and feel pretty confident that was not what was meant.
KP, how many miles before you can take the imac out over 50 MPH?
Whar can I say the word passed the spell checker:alc::alc: wheee
It would actually be kinda cool to have a woman president. And, if it was Hillary, can you just imagine the blathering hissyfit Limbaugh would have? That, alone, would be worth it. The question is, would Hillary continue to pander, and posture, or would she just say, “fuck it,” and try to get the important stuff done? Or would she get us into a war to prove how “tough” she is? I dunno, I kinda think she might make a good prez. She’s certainly smart. Maybe Bill could be Sec State, and Al Gore could be, oh I dunno, head of the EPA or Energy Secretary or something.
KP has one of those new fangled fancy appuls that can spell check till the animuls come home.
Hillary is a DLC democrat she sucks by definition:gate::omg::jason::jason::yuck:
pj, don’t get me wrong. She’s not my favorite but I would take her in a second. I hope she can do it but maybe I buy into the spin her enemies spew. The whole problem can’t be solved in the short run, maybe not in my lifetime or yours, but at least the direction would be changed and the standing in the world community might begin to correct and we who are a little more ‘edgy’ can try to take it further from there.
Sorry, fred. imho, and Geaux, Saints!
I haven’t found the spell check on this thing yet. I’m just a really good speller. 😀
I guess Melina is probably orchestrating a birthday party about now. Happy Birthday Will. 13 sucked for me, hopefully it will be better for you!(Girls are really bitchy about that age)
FireFox has a built-in spell checker. Doesn’t keep me from spellign rong, tho.
KP, Spell check won’t let you say ‘Geaux Saints!’ unless yew are in Louisiana.
At 13 my family had just moved from West Virginia and ‘coal country’ to the ‘big’ city in VA, but things were a lot simpler then. I was just the only Liberal kid in my junior high school. I did OK being the underdog but it was great getting the hell out a few years later to friendlier territory.

Hey, this new edition of windows or whatever has a bit of spellcheck in the text box here.
it was a driver issue…but everything is going good now….the xps tech group is in Phoenix too! Maybe Michael Dell is really gonna do what he said!

Well. All of these shiny new toys while my conduits seem to be crapping out.
Out here all the leaves are brown and the sky is gray. I guess we will see Monday, Monday (can’t trust that day).
Dennis Doherty passed. I am not sure if the Mamas and the Papas get enough credit because maybe they were too pop but they left behind some great music. Denny had some voice. There is a pretty good documentary out there that was circulating on PBS in the last few years. I hope a few can bring it back in the next few week.
Painting Girl, 24 Goddess, you know the Saints and NOLa need this more than da you guys do.

The Sombrero Galaxy in Infrared
Credit: R. Kennicutt (Steward Obs.) et al., SSC, JPL, Caltech, NASA
Explanation: This floating ring is the size of a galaxy. In fact, it is part of the photogenic Sombrero Galaxy, one of the largest galaxies in the nearby Virgo Cluster of Galaxies. The dark band of dust that obscures the mid-section of the Sombrero Galaxy in optical light actually glows brightly in infrared light. The above image shows the infrared glow, recently recorded by the orbiting Spitzer Space Telescope, superposed in false-color on an existing image taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope in optical light. The Sombrero Galaxy, also known as M104, spans about 50,000 light years across and lies 28 million light years away. M104 can be seen with a small telescope in the direction of the constellation Virgo.

The last time I bought a new dell it arrived in a not operational state and the tech said to reformat the hard drive and do a system restore from the CD.. I thought that was pretty Micky Mouse .of them …
I got a cramp in my foot. I walk it out then as soon as I try to go back to bed it cramps up again.. In two and a half hours I have to get up anyway .. soo..:knit::knit::knit::knit::eek::knit2::knit2::knit2::knit2::eek:
