Since they asked me nicely (and since it’s easier than trying to come up with something original to say), I’m going to plug MoveOn’s virtual march on Washington to stop the Iraq escalation.
MoveOn is hoping to flood Senate offices with 1 million messages, and they’re asking everybody to sign up for a time to call their senator today? You can sign up at:
http://pol.moveon.org/virtualmarch/?rc=iraq_moveon_bloggers
and you can see what times others signed up for, so calls can be spread throughout the day. And, you can even opt to get a text message reminding you to call.
I think you should also demand that Marc Maron get a daily radio show, but, hey, that’s up to you.
Happy February.
Dammit, Sean. Sorry. I have a Rollins DVD for you if you want it.

Just to remind Air America Radio
Just to remind Air America. You lost my support(including financial) with your treatment of Morning Sedition and Marc Maron. Your treatment of Mike Malloy just put a nail in it. I wanted Air America to succeed. In the end all I’m left with is just feeling sorry for the likes of Randi Rhodes, Mark Riley, Sam Seder, and the Young Turks. I support them but I cannot support Air America. The knife you put in your former supporters backs went in too deep. And the sad thing is that sob Danny Goldberg is still there. At long last…..have you no sense of decency?Former premium memberPS: I am now a financial supporter of Nova M Radio

Comment by pjsauter — January 31, 2007 @ 10:19 pm
The announcement date of Feb 14 makes sense in that not only is it the date of Al’s last show, but Al is also scheduled to appear on Letterman that night.
I can’t wait to hear the Repigs complain about a comedian being unqualified to hold a Senate seat. In the first place, many senators are ad hoc comedians anyway, they’re just not funny. In the second place, the argument doesn’t hold water with idiots like Saxby Chambliss and Ted “It’s a series of TUBES!” Stevens lowering the bar.
No truth to the rumor that Norm Coleman will be scheduled to park cars outside the Ed Sullivan Theater that night. 😀
If DLC democrats are 👿 then AL being a DLC AIPAC NAFTA tool will be better… right .. right .. :yuck: :fustrate: :paranoid:
Colorado’s anti-immigrant law costs millions and saves nothing
Colorado’s new law banning state spending on illegal immigrants has cost more than $2 million to enforce – and has saved the state nothing.
Less than a year after politically charged debates on illegal immigration, officials are reporting high costs, no savings and unexpected problems with the new laws.
Once touted by statehouse Republicans and Democrats as the toughest anti-immigration package in the nation, the Colorado crackdown is falling apart.
“We’re finding very few of the departments where these bills have a major effect,” said state Sen. Abel Tapia, D-Pueblo, chairman of the legislature’s Joint Budget Committee.
The centerpiece of the get-tough effort was House Bill 1023, which prohibits spending taxpayer money on illegal immigrants except in cases required by the federal government.
To figure out whether the law is working, the Joint Budget Committee asked each department to report how much it was spending to enforce the law and how much the department was saving as a result.

Hey, I got stuck in editing mode. :paranoid:
yeah, editing still doesn’t work for me here. if i edit, i have to go back to the blog home page to get a clear comment box.
GEORGIA’S PATRIARCHY is at again: :tommygun:
(from planned parenthood GA)
You mean, you can’t just overwrite the text in the comment box? When I do it, it’s just that the browser seems to cache whatever was in the box, but the comment is edited, and I can just select all the text and write whatever I want.
Fred, you mean they didn’t check to see if the business app they needed to run was vista compatible? I mean, not everything will run on a new OS. You really gotta check that shit out. It’s one thing for me to ignore all the compatibility stuff on my personal equipment, and then have shit not work (for instance, the fingerprint scanner software on my laptop doesn’t work under Vista, and neither does the webcam built into the lid), but in a business, you generally check that out for any mission-critical applications.
the edit function doesn’t complete. After I submit the edit, the edited text remains in the comment box and it still says, ‘EDITING.” If I clear that text that is still showing in the comment box (after I’ve submitted it) and submit new text, and then go back to the blog homepage, the new comment has edited out the old comment. So after an edit, I must go back to the blog homepage if I want to preserve the edit.

A Tail of Two Hemispheres
Credit & Copyright: S. Deiries (ESO), M. Fulle (INAF)
Explanation: By January 19/20 Comet McNaught’s magnificent dust tail stretched for about 150 million kilometers (~1 AU), requiring images from both southern and northern hemispheres of planet Earth to take it all in. Two such views – from Cerro Paranal in Chile (left) and the Carnic Alps in Italy – are combined in this unique graphic that also outlines a perspective view of the comet’s orbit (dotted line) and relative position of the Sun. Driven by solar radiation pressure the dust tail initially points away from the Sun, but also trails outside the comet’s orbit. Astronomers try to account for the complex structure along the tail, including the pronounced striations, by considering forces acting on the dust (e.g. gravity, solar wind and radiation) as well as the release time and size of the dust grains. In the diagram, the modeled location of dust grains released at approximately the same time relative to perihelion passage, synchrones, are shown as dashed lines. The location of grains of similar size, syndynes, are shown as solid lines.

Don’t worry, Andy. The professor got Maryanne, and she was the pick of the island.
:omg: I never saw that episode and I watched Gilligan’s Island every single day after school for a good 10 years. I liked the one where they try to get off the island and Gilligan screws it up. :rofl2:
:rofl2: Hey everyone!
I liked the one where the space probe landed on the island, but Gilligan knocked it over and broke the camera lens, so the professor made some glue to glue it back together, but then Gilligan left the lit on the glue pot over the fire, and the lid blew off, and got glue over everybody, and then they got mad and chased him through the hut that was full of feathers, and then when the camera came back on, they people at mission control thought they’d found a planet full of chicken people.
The one where they went by boat to that other island and had their personalities swapped was good, too.
Ted Turners’ WTBS in Atlanta didn’t show the personality swapping one very often. It was one of my faves too.
The one with Phil Silvers where they turned Hamlet into a musical wasn’t bad. God help me, I still remember the words to some of them songs. What’s amazing is how really friggin’ stupid theses shows seem now, and how I though they were JFG back in the day.

helllooooo out there!
Hello yourself Melina. Are you going to come down to Philly for the Maron show at Helium?
whens that Andy?
isnt Marc in SF this weekend?
How far is Philly? Is there a Westin there?
Man would I love to get the hell out of here for a few days and sleep on a heavenly bed!
OK Pj…Im switching the blog to the himanbrown file…
Now, will the coming soon page appear still?
HOW DO I access it?…thought bluehost and should I open it with dreamweaver?
Is there a Westin in SF?
Someone took a shot at Jerry Ford in front of the Westin St. Francis!
It is Marc at Cobb’s the next 3 nights.
seems like its not loading properly….keeps trying and trying…should I just leave it cycling?
OK done!! Thanks PJ…you are a peach!!
It seems like I can still edit it in blogger but it just goes to the plain ripcoco.com address…
I wonder if the blogspot addy works too still?
yes…are you going?
actually…I think so…I shouldnt just say yes without looking at his page…i have no idea how many days hes there…
Glad it worked. Yeah, you can still use blogger to post, it just publishes to your server now. Next step will be to get you to use something other than blogger.
The ripcoco blogspot page will be gone now. You could actually probably create a redirect page and publish it using the same blogspot address (different blog name).
I would not use dreamweaver for anything, personally.
what should I use?
so…how do I use that same blogspot address with a different blog name?
Would I go in on Tech Sedition and then somehow access that address?
I note that Mark Green (brother of the new AAR owner Stephen Green) recently interviewed Ralph Nader on Politically Direct. Green’s a former Nader’s Raider himself. While I feel that some AAR hosts are too much aligned with the Democratic party, I appreciate the fact that others (like Papantonio or Seder) are much more critical. Hopefully a diversity of views will continue on AAR.
That said, will Randy Rhodes get to do another Nader-bashing interview? I doubt it!
I need to make a redirect page….eeekkkk!
Hey Melina, sorry for the delay I’m at the after school program in Chester and I’m a little tied up with gaggles of screaming kids. Apparently he’s going to be here in early May, although the Helium website calender doesn’t display that far ahead. I’m going to call later and see if I can confirm. I will definitely be going.
Well, with whom should anyone align right now? We’re fighting for our lives here and last I looked neither Nader nor anyone else from any 3rd party was out front with any chance to try to start getting us out of this mess…not to mention that Lieberman of the Ct for Lieberman party (or not) is pro war and gonna swing repug now….
I encourage anyone to be critical of the Dems but with the clear knowledge that we have no other way to go in the next election.
…and that snot Nader was just saying that he hasnt decided yet….what a stupid idiot. (not you, him!)
And if Green has any sort of agenda to push Nader then Im out of there !
well, we’ll see…Im never too against a little trip if Im free….drive or train…whatever. Is it all ages there?…we’ll see.
Im hoping to see Marc back east before then though…you never know when someone might start a radio show.
I so wish I could ask him, but IM sure that no one can say anything. The Green bro is not even taking over till the 14th….
Oh yeah…Al is running…
Thats like the news that Hill is running…pretty obvious!
Has anyon seen JillBrill today? We were at the blogger summit at WNBC last night and I want to know if anyone in the tri state area saw the 11PM news to see if you cold see us….I didnt tape it and I didnt get home till 11:30 of course!
For the rundown of a pretty fun yet frustrating evening with the news see RIPCoco (no blogspot anymore) and B@B….
Best part was definitley Jill and her friend bloggers (who I went to the bar with afterwards for a little while…JIll had to go home right after the thing was over…)
The interview with Nader ends with Green welcoming Nader back to AAR and Nader saying something like “Long live Air America Radio!” The interview was an hour long and I found it very interesting.
Frankly, given that Green ran as a Democrat (and may again) and
still (obviously) hearts Nader, I am hopeful that a multitude of progressive voices will get a hearing. The only AAR voice I have a huge problem with is Cenk when he gets going on his love for Poppy Bush. I’ll grant you that Poppy was “better” than Shrub, but anyone who believes Bush Senior was a good president wasn’t paying attention in the 1980s and early 1990s. My political activism was a direct result of my profound distaste for what the first Bush regime was doing.
What was the blogger summit?
:yuck: :yuck: And even more snow :paranoid: :paranoid:
PJ, did you put up a rediect for me???? Thanks!! I ust clicked through from Jill’s page realizing that I would lose so many links just like that, but also gave out cards w/o the blogspot to the brass….thanks!!!
check my page and B@B for that info andy….just another stop on the fame train for us up and coming …um…bloggers…
Hi. Yeah, I put up a redirect for you, so everybody’s old links will still work.
This stupid Dell has such a high level of security that only GOD can install any software on it .. For some reason it thinks the domain administrator is GOD .. All the rest of the administrators are peons, All the directories except the ones in the users profile are write protected .. and only GOD can change the protections….actually she had to create the security policy.. I guess the first person to be administrator is GOD to this peace of :crap:
The apps that have yet to run on this peace of :crap: were all written by us in Visual Studio .. and Visual Studio.Net.. It is yet to be seen if the Object embedding works with Orifice 2007 since we export the data to Excel and export the graphed data to Power point ..
.. If that fails to work it gets upgraded to Winbdows 2000 and office 97 :growl: :growl: :growl: :fustrate: :fustrate: :paranoid: :paranoid:
well, geeze , me too colette, but starting with the big boss Reagan….god did I hate those guys….
There was no AIDS, there was no homelessness, and there was certainly no need for silly little regulations on corportations…or anything for that matter…
But if Cenk is our “conservative Liberal” (and having come over form the dark side)…I find him dumb. There is not much to point to in Bush Sr’s time to support any claim of a good presidency….what is it…10000000 tiny points of light? He was just more of the same and he gave us Clinton…
But if the equivalent of that differing view is Nader on the other side, Ill just stick in my little quiant mainstream mode for now, thanks alot…just till maybe we can get some movement on Iraq and try to stomp out Iran…
One of the only people doing international diplomacy that would worry me as much or more than Bush Jr is Ralph Nader…could you imagine him going over to Iraq and trying to sort things out…with his anger problems we’d be nuked right away!
How does Nader live with his self?
Sounds like you guys need an IT person.
PJ youre a saint…..have fun in tech support fred….
the big problem is setting up an admin acct. I suppose that you have to in an actual corporation with an actual admin…but in my experience, the dells have a funky interface when you set that up. I avoid it like the plague.
The only AAR voice I have a huge problem with is Cenk when he gets going on his love for Poppy Bush. I’ll grant you that Poppy was “better†than Shrub, but anyone who believes Bush Senior was a good president wasn’t paying attention in the 1980s and early 1990s. My political activism was a direct result of my profound distaste for what the first Bush regime was doing.
Comment by Colette — February 1, 2007 @ 4:58 pm
Agreeance, Colette. Poppy is better than Shrub the same way that two kicks in the testicles is better than fifteen kicks in the testicles.
Someone should offer Cenk a thousand dollars if he can get through a week of shows without mentioning that he used to be a Republican or what a great president Poppy was. He would never be able to do it.
I miss MS a little more every time Cenk pulls this shit. :growl:
Well XP pro did not do this .. perhaps if you do a fresh install of XP with service pack II it would have the same finicky difficulties .Vista acts more like a server OS than a work station. :yuck: :fustrate: :paranoid:
We have an IT person but this is the first Vista box she has seen .. One might think they would send the IT people to school or something but they never have and probably never will .. Its all fly by the seat of your pants. 😮 :fustrate:
Our IT person is a Microsoft certified NT server administrator that knows everything she knows about server 2003 from solving similar problems in a similar way . She points out that they never tell you about these kind of problems in the schools anyhow and tech support is worthless .. . Most of the time her wisdom has proven correct ..
They do have a Vista bank and support …I got it with my upgrade for an additional $40 or something…make sure that you guys dont have it because its been coming with Vista…and alot of this XPS and Vista stuff is getting white glove handling in Austin…but then…I ended up in Canada twice too.
I dont listen to turks…but does cenk have any reason except the relative one?
Should be a good learning experience for her. Generally, in the enterprise, you’d be testing all this shit out for quite a while – especially if you’ve got legacy apps that need to run – before even thinking about moving to new OS. I don’t care if it’s Mac, Windows, or Linux.
You’ll never get anywhere with this kind of stuff talking to Dell tech support. Not in a business. You need to do lots of research and testing, and come up with a change management process. And you need to know what goes on with the OS and what is allowed to run in an protected memory space and all that. Especially with those in-house developed apps, but really even COTS legacy stuff. There are ways to work around all that stuff, but it takes a while to figure it all out. M$ should do what Apple does. You want the new OS? You need all new apps.
They buy the computers over the Internet directly from Dell .. This one was a sort of an experiment mostly because it was in stock .. and you have to special order machines with XP pre installed ,,They have a support account but it is mostly concerned with on site hardware replacement..
The idea of moving to .Net was the platform independence issues .. In theory if you have the current version of the .Net framework installed the app should work .
We also noted that Vista has the ability to revert to legacy windows views .. that was one of the first features we utilized. 😮 😯
Yeah, well, Dell just shit canned their CEO, and Michael Dell is back in the saddle, so let’s see what changes occur.
hey- check this pretty scary site. you put in your zip code and it tells you all about the pollutants in your county and who is polluting.
Apparently my county, being right outside of NYC and just damned dirty, is one of the worst in the country!
Most of the pre release info on Zdnet indicted Vista was a only slightly improved ( if bigger and slower is improved) version of XP. It was supposed to have a lot of the security patches inlined in the code but otherwise ..
The general thought was they they were just forcing the poor soles still using windows 2000 to buy a new computer ..
With all this rumoring on the part of the liberal media about an attack on Iran I am surprised that we have not heard anything from Putin or Hu concerning the implications of doing that ..maybe they are planning on keeping that a surprise :paranoid: ..
Well Melina I just spoke to the folks at Helium and the guy I talked to did not have Marc in the schedule. He did say that it may need to be updated, so I’ll call back in a couple of weeks and see.
Hey, did he have a really high-pitched, funny-sounding voice?
:rofl2:
Hey, PJ, what’s involved in moving my blog over to a dedicated domain? Not sure I want to host it myself, but will they redirect it over? I thought there was a 1000 post limit; I have upwards of 3500 (yikes!). Alas, with all this Drupal crap I don’t have time to navigate the niceties of blogger. But since someone else put up a blogspot blog with the same name (albeit hers is about knitting), I should probably get mine off blogspot sooner rather than later.
Y’all missed great fun last night. It’s always iffy when you get a bunch of friends from disparate groups together, but our little Band of Six got along famously. I’m glad Melina got to meet the fabulous ModFab and the equally fabulous Tata and Mary Ann. I’ve had my issues with Dean (DBK), mostly in regard to Camille Abate‘s run for Congress last year — but he’s a good fellow.
Wish I could have stayed and :alc: , but we old folks need our beauty sleep. I was sleepy enough today as it was.
You know, none of your links work 🙄
You can opt to publish your blog to a ftp server instead of using their free server.
Sestak legislation would require troop withdrawal
By WILLIAM BENDER, wbender@delcotimes.com
01/31/2007
As many members of Congress struggle over how to respond to President Bush’s plan to send an additional 21,500 troops to Iraq, U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak is planning to introduce legislation that would require the withdrawal of American troops by the end of this year and cut off funding for future combat operations in Iraq.
“Don’t double down on a bad military bet by using more troops,” Sestak said Tuesday on the House floor.
Unlike the non-binding resolutions taking shape in the Senate, Sestak said his bill “would be binding.” He plans to introduce the legislation as early as next week, though it is unclear how much support it will receive in the House.
“Set a date certain — this year — to serve as the leverage to have the Iraqis accept the reality of the personal consequence of not assuming responsibility for their nation,” he said.
Sestak, D-7, of Newtown, sits on the House Armed Services Committee and is the only freshman member of its Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. He has been a vocal opponent of the troop surge, which is designed to counter sectarian violence in Baghdad and Anbar province by increasing the current 132,000-troop presence.
Alright Joe!

I remember that Gilligan’s version of LedZep. They can sue but as long as someone else recorded it, it will never disappear.
.
Pj- here you go again!
It worked very easily for me…but Im sorta clueless about how you put up the redirection page.
You can just send Jill the same email that you sent me with her blog name in the place of mine.
Actually, some of the ftp settings are specific to the host, and I only had those because I set them up for you in the first place. But, it’s pretty straightforward. As for the redirect page, all I did was create a new blogger blog under my account for ripcoco (your moving yours to a new publishing site vacated the old ripcoco.blogspot.com name), and in the head of the template, I put in a meta refresh tag, and then created a post with a link to the new place, just in case the redirect failed.
I used to do web hosting “outsourcing” stuff as a sideline (sometimes I’d do the design and hosting, and sometimes just the hosting part). Maybe I can go back to that, since I’m pretty familiar with how everything works by now.
Holy shit!! I’m in the top twenty.
