It is with heavy heart that I must announce that, apparently, I am not the father of Anna Nicole Smith’s baby. This friggin’ Dickhead Birkhead guy sure looks like he thinks he won the lottery, doesn’t he. I guess it’s just all that joy of fatherhood coming through. And he said he was heading “to the toy store.” Presumably that’s the Nassau Porsche dealership. Well, it’s nice to know somebody’s making out in all of this.
If you’re interested, here’s a few minutes from Malloy on Monday night (mp3, about 9 minutes, 1.5 MB), talking about Sam, AAR, and the Green boys.

Puerile obsessions
If an intelligent being from another planet had arrived here Tuesday afternoon and spent his day watching CNN, MSNBC or Fox News, he could only conclude that the two greatest crises facing our nation were the telling of a racist joke by a television personality and the identity of the father of a dead model’s baby.
This, now, is what the news has become.
As the nation gets older, one is left wondering whether we are moving toward cultural maturity or oddly in the opposite direction.

:joe: OMG this is awesome! :joe:
And thanks PJ for posting the Malloy clip. Thought podcasts were free (don’t ask me why) and didn’t tune in when someone said there was some smack being talked.
Thanks for that clip PJ, Malloy pretty much sums it up for me.
Yeah, he went on in the next segment, too. He’s pretty disgusted by everything that happened, getting lied to, getting screwed out of money. Billionaires buying the network at fire sale prices, while they all get screwed. You know, it would be one thing if anything they’d done had actually worked, but all they’ve ever done was alienate the listeners, never promote the shows, and when they start to build an audience in spite of the shitty management, they pull the shows. I used care that AAR survived, even if they pissed me off personally, but I no longer give a shit either way. If they have something on worth listening to (say, Sam on Sundays), and I think of it, I’ll try and catch it. Otherwise, screw ’em. I don’t even hate them. I just don’t give a shit anymore.
Why does the Sammy Cam works today but not yesterday with Bobby K. and The Wife ! of Sam π Sniff π

I cant believe that Lionel said such things about Rachel….if I were her I would QUIT!!

Yeah, you gotta love that Ticketmaster. Bought two tickets to Roger Waters, had to pay $17 for the privilege, but that wasn’t enough, as they wanted another $5 for processing or some such. Sorry about Thompson but he’s hard core right wing and with his celebrity would surely have won the nomination.
Oh, he’s not out of the race. Just “out” in terms of his lymphoma.

ok…back home now…just was setting up the fire pit so I can cover it for the rain…
Im worried about flooding
Melina have you got sump pumps?
Did sam say anything important at the end…? I IMed him to ask if Maron was coming over for the last day….
He said Marc might be coming in.
Ive got one free standing pump and one sump pump….the flooding has always been pretty Ok…not so bad. The house is built on a boulder so the water runs across it and to a drain…then I can sorta sweep it away.
The sump pump isnt in a place where the water goes, which is a pain…but the last big rain the water shot straight up out of the ground….
I have everything off the floor more or less, but there is a ton of laundry that Im catching up on so it wont get wet….
Im ready otherwise….just worried because this is supposed ot be big.
We wont have the ice dams this time though so it should be OK.
I need ot have the basement guys come and jackhammer a little ditch thing towards the pump so it runs straight into there….
Just havent had time….and am worried about moving the rock too much and causing a radon problem….I already have it in the water.
good.., I sure hope so….Im sure it will be quite a crowd.
I really want to try to figure out this Lionel slur thing too…I just cant imagine that people who say these things should be on AAR…I dont care if they get Springer back…its just disgusting that he would say that in public much less on the air.
Does anyone have any sorta basic idea of where it would be in the transcripts? Like was it recent?
Not me. I never even heard of the guy until they announced he was taking Sam’s place. Noticed over at Talkers Magazine that he’s got a 1.25 million cum, tying him with Al, Randi, Colmes, Miller, Hugh Hewitt, and Bill Handel. That’s with his 92 affiliates (which Sam said only half are for his nightly show, the rest are for his Saturday show), and he’s on WOR, which I dare say is a bit better signal then WWRL. We’ll have to see how many of his nighttime listeners will get up in the morning and listen to him, and how many “clearances” he gets. The “experts” are saying it’s a good move. I wonder what they were saying about the Springer move?
The chief financial officer of Menu Foods sold about half of his stake in the company three weeks before the widespread pet food recall, Canadian insider-trading reports showed.
Finance chief Mark Wiens called it a “horrible coincidence” in the Toronto Globe and Mail newspaper, adding that he did not hear of any problems with the company’s products until at least a week later. Wiens sold 14,000 shares on Feb. 26 and 27 for about $90,000. The shares now are worth about $54,000.

Not that America doesn’t have its finger on the pulse of the Morning Seditionists, but I think Stephanie’s secret is safe with us. Unless you go tell all her relatives in Buffalo, that is.
:penguin: where do they live in buffalo……
:40: lol stephies got a secret
pj, You seem to have that right. This Stephie story has not exploded onto the internets no matter how hard we tried. Well, at least we were ultimately vindicated on the end of the Sam Seder Show. Time will tell, not that there is anything wrong with it. I sort of thought it was all about the dogs anyway.
Seriously, I don’t like Miller’s show because it is too noisy and frantic. I think she is pretty good as is her crew. I just don’t like the way the show is done. It rattles my nerves. I will be listening to the NPR :omg: Morning Edition from now on. I enjoy the lack of commercials.
I will not go out of my way for anything on AAR at this point, certainly not Lionel. What will they be sticking in the Seder slot for the next month? I seem to have missed that. Maybe Sean and pj’s excellent adventure?
I dont think its a big deal that sam said it on the cam…who even cares?
Does it matter?
Its not like he said it on the air.
And its not like shes some big star…
BUT…I do think its worth reporting this Lionel to any gay organizations and media organizations and hate speech organizations…
I am researching him….
If this is the direction of liberal talk radio then I dont know if its a train I want to be on….might as well go and listen to howard stern….at least he has a few funny moments.
I guess they’re gonna have guest hosts on until the Lionel train rolls into town. I’ve pretty much lost all interest in AAR. I’m thinking that Maron in the Morning would be good, though. Especially if it’s simulcast on MSNBC. But it sounds like ol’ Donnie will be back just in time for sweeps, when his triumphant return can maximize ratings.
It doesn’t really matter at all. Stephanie is not being a hypocrite by attacking Gays while being one. She is always very supportive. It just seemed very weird that this popped out this morning. I am happy it has been ignored.
Neil Young and Lionel
You forced me with you train refs.
vern…there are also a ton of free podcasts that you can stream from your computer or put in an MP3 player…..I have tons and some are really great. Will and I love Diggnation….I get all the Times op-eds, which I think I can pass to you over skype or AOL….
there are also free podcasts of the science times, david pogue….have a look in the itunes store under podcasts and check it out….
There is a whole world growing of people putting together shows that are pretty interesting…you just have to find what you like.
Fuck AAR….thats all I can say.
They dont give a shit about us and Im tired of trying to support them when all they do is ‘change direction’…
But having this homophobic Lionel guy in Sam’s spot is really the last straw. They lied about his stations and following and they never even tried to give Sam spport for his growing listeners.
Lionel will switch from nights to days without his listeners and have to build again….it sucks….and heaven forbid he says what he thinks the wrong way.
The one thing that I always liked about the approach of AAR was that they were so careful to do their homework.
Hell, I was annoyed that Mark Riley didnt study as hard as Marc Maron did…Al Franken was so careful in checking facts and in what he said and how he said it.
There are alot of things you can say about any particular host, but you cant really point out any lies or misrepresentations on purpose.
Now, its all in the wind, and we are represented by someone who talks trash…
At least Jerry Springer came as a canned package so we could just distance ourselves….its bad enough that the Turds are so …well, not so good….but I dont like taking the WOR lineup over to AAR….Lionel isnt even a liberal…according to HIM!
does stephie attack gays?
I really dont like her style or her show…and I really wanted to….
According to the radio experts who have been posting about what a great thing this is, it isn’t about the hosts being liberals, it’s about showing that the Greens can make the liberal radio format viable by having non-liberals on it. Or something. So, a great victory would be to add Rush Limbaugh, to boost ratings, get clearances, and prove that AAR can compete in the market, damnit!
Does anybody know the complaint line for AAR? One of Sam’s listeners announced it on the air yesterday, but I was driving. This totally pisses me off.
On an up note: Marc, Janeane, and Henry were GREAT last night. In spite of first night glitches (Janeane using the wrong intro CD), and an anarchic start to choose the performance order (Janeane, Henry, then Marc), it worked out fine. I couldn’t get any good pictures, my phonecam is very fussy in odd lighting, but I still enjoyed the night.
Janeane played her neurotic girl self, mentioned her $180 jeans and new attraction to beading. She went on to the additional intense anger caused by not drinking anymore, and the temptation to do anything to excess.
Henry was his usual intense self. I noticed that he still has the habit of wrapping the mike cord around his hand a few times and taking a wide-legged stance, just like did while singing with Black Flag. He has mellowed with age, even getting sentimental at times, but I was surprised at how he’s gotten thinner (though still muscular) along with going gray. He talked about being on Fox News vs. being on CNN, stupid humans, nature taking revenge on humanity, and the trip to Iran. After the show, an Iranian-American girl was tearfully thanking him for talking about the trip and letting Americans know more about the people. I wanted to be a fangirl, but not after hearing what that poor kid was going through (not knowing if Dubya’s going to bomb your cousins everyday has to be a little stressful).
Marc was his usual neurotic self. Someone in the balcony yelled about Astoria and the cats. He did his bit about airport security, Dubya, cats, living in NY versus LA, his own neruoses, etc. He mentioned AAR briefly, but talked about it after the show. He’s equally disappointed, OK, pissed at the new management as we all are. He might fill in for Malloy on Nova-M.
Oh well, I have this work thing to get back to.
Stacey (no longer) from the building next door.
We have all talked about the failure of AAR. I think this goes beyond them not caring about ‘us’. I think they think they need to get away from ‘us’ because we represent failure. We are the true believers in a concept that has failed. The only thing that failed at AAR from the outset was the ownership and the management and the finances. The concept was excellent. The execution was botched by charlatans and hacks.
Thanks, anastasi. Glad to hear and be jealous.
Thanks for the report, Anastasi.
Yeah, Evan Cohen, aside from being a charlatan and a liar, actually put together something pretty good. If he’d really had the cash in the bank that he said he had, they’d have been in pretty damn good shape. As Malloy was saying the other night, AAR had a national brand pretty much immediately. Instead of promoting what they had and building on it, they got mired in mismanagement, survived, and then brought in Goldberg, who dismantled everything and killed the network, the shows, and just about destroyed the brand. It looks as though the Greens will finish off killing the brand. It may continue to be called AAR, but it’ll be like going to see one of those old-time rock bands, only to find out none of the original members are in it, and they’ve become just a shallow parody of what the real group once was.

Thanks for the info on the show, especially for those of us who can’t make it to NY. I don’t envy Marc following Rollins on stage, but I bet the combination (plus Janeane) was a treat.
What a shame that Rollins doesn’t have a show on AAR. He’ll never know the joy of being fired from that network.

pj, thanks for the link to Malloy at the top of the thread. The way AAR is spiraling down the toilet, a little Malloy rage will come in handy this week.

MSNBC drops Imus.
You know, PJ, I was thinking that very same thing today — that say what you will about Evan Cohen, and how sleazy he was, he (or the Drobnys, because let’s not forget they were there at the beginning too, or Doug Kreeger) were onto something when they hired Marc and Sam and Lizz Winstead. They were out to change the knock on progressive talk radio as being boring progressive utopians with no sense of humor — and they did it.
Here’s what Jon Sinton told PBS in the very early days before AAR really jelled:
Sinton got it. Kreeger got it. I remember seeing both of them at City Bakery during one of the MS broadcasts and you could tell that they both knew that there was something special there. Whether they knew how to market it, or had money to, was another story.
And that’s what’s so damn frustrating — because something very revolutionary; the kind of thing we hadn’t really seen on radio since Jean Shepherd and Bob & Ray was happening — and then they let Goldberg come in and wreck it. Limbaugh wasn’t revolutionary; guys like Joe Pyne and Long John Nebel and Barry Gray had been doing talk radio for years. Morning Sedition was more like the old Jean Shepherd shows; even more like a radio version of the old Smothers Brothers TV show or That Was the Week That Was or The Great American Dream Machine, which starred Chevy Chase, Ken Shapiro, and Marshal Efron. You youngsters don’t remember that show, but trust me, it was hilarious and an ancestor of MS.
I don’t mean to get into a polemic, I just still get so frustrated. I wake up in the morning and I want to turn on the radio and there’s nothing to listen to. PJ, if you ever need $$ to keep Seditionist Radio going, PLEASE contact me. Because sometimes I go downstairs, pour a cup of coffee, say to myself “It’s six past the hour, and this….is Morning Sedition!”, sit down at the computer and put on the stream.
Pathetic, I know. But that’s what AAR was, and it’s gone, and it makes me so damn ANGRY. :rant1: π‘ πΏ :smack:
I don’t know if this was posted already, anyway, courtesy of the General:
From the people who brought you the Morning Zoo
It’s no secret that I think Sam Seder is one of the most dangerous people in America. That’s why his show on Air France, The Sam Seder Show, is the only radio program I monitor every day. It’s how I stay abreast of what the libislamunistfascists and Congressislamunistofascists are up to.
Thank God I won’t have to do it anymore after Friday. The “radio people” saviors the Greens hired to resurrect Air America killed his show. Obviously, since these folks are “radio people,” it’s a very wise move. After all, these are the folks who united America by making us all listen to canned nationally marketed formats like Morning Zoo, The Breeze, KISS-FM, and Stimulating Talk Radio. They’re also the same kind of people who brought us the Pig-Vomit-produced Jerry Springer show. You can’t beat that for entertainment.
Hmmm. I wonder if Seder would still have his job if he called a women’s basketball team, a group of “nappy-headed hos.”
You can let Air America management know what you think of their decision by writing:

That was Randi’s argument yesterday. Now that Imus is gone, she predicts the hammer will come down on Salvage and Dreck.
Time will tell.
brilliantatbreakfast , how nice to know there is someone else who remembers Long John Nebel.
I’ll play the Old Codger; I’m not proud.
Here’s a big vote for Bob and Ray. They did hours and hours of great original comedy bits every damn week, seemingly off the top of their heads. Until MS came along, the best damn radio show there ever was.
My friends all loved Gene Shephard, who was also something of an acquired taste, but he would just sit there and talk, and millions just listened, enthralled.
These were truly creative people, and they didn’t need to disparage women or minority groups.
My whole point about Imus is, where the hell has everybody been?
I heard funnier stuff at any random construction site.
Did Russert or Gregory think it might be worth cutting the cord back when Imus compared Patrick Ewing to an ape?
Does anybody have any pride or honor anymore?
I voted for Kerry, but what’s his excuse? I read Frank Rich, but where’s his apology [and while he’s at it, he can explain why he and Maureen Dowd did their hack work on Gore during 2000. Thanks a bunch, you shits].
I’ll go lie down now. :sammy:
I heard funnier stuff at any random construction site.
Isn’t that the role Bernard McGuirk plays on Imus’ show?
As i said, Impeach McGuirk first!
I definitely vote for Bob and Ray. I think it takes a somewhat bent mind to get them, which is why I like them so much. And I like Bob’s kid, too.
Actually, I listen to a lot of oldtime radio, and MS was definitely a throwback to the old days. It had a lot in common with the Fred Allen show. Way ahead of its time, and under appreciated.
I think the only funnier stuff I heard on the radio was Bernie Fleshkin and company on WBAI.
One thing I forgot to mention in my review: Marc talked about staying at the Y in Hell’s Kitchen. I stayed there myself in 1987, just to save myself from commuting into town during a conference. Of course, that was when the Koch administration was warehouseing homeless people in hotels in the same neighborhood. While plenty of homeless people are just trying to get out of a shitty situation, let’s face it, some folks make it shittier for others – one way is to not keep their kids in after midnight.
So, while staying at the Y, walking to the Y at 2:00 am, I got mugged. By girls. The little bitch had a mean right hook, and I went through the New Music Seminar with a black eye that gave me instant cool.
Although I now find humor in the situation, I didn’t tell Marc then, and I don’t think I’ll send it to his MySpace. That can only lead to a new set of neuroses – or comedy?
I first heard Imus in the early 70s as a college student under the influence in the early morn in NYC. Pretty funny but too AM radio for me at the time. Then in the later 90s, a friend of mine got me into listening to Imus in the Morning. I enjoyed it for a while but the racism became too much to let slide and they became especially vicious about the Clintons so I had to let it go. The most despicable worst of the bunch was McGuirk.
Whatever happens, this hideous creep should go. I would blame him for 90% of the vileness of the Imus program. At least Imus has so far taken the spears and not thrown that jerk under the bus. Of course, he and the smarmy news reader Charles could just be Imus’s bad cops allowing him to take the ‘high road’.
I am glad that MSNBC has dumped him but he will just find another outlet (Fox?). If CBS Radio follows suit, there will be another outlet in radio. So sad in light of what we have watched getting dropped and ignored.
