I know it’s way too early yet, but could it possibly be Hillary vs. Rudy in ’08? That’s rather distasteful. And, while I am not exactly a Hillary fan, if there’s anybody out there who’s going to try to tell me that we need to vote for, well, you know who (I hate to use the “N” word) out of principle, well, sorry. NFW can Saint Rudy be allowed to become preznit. He was bad enough when he was contained down there in NYC (what the fuck were you people thinking, anyway? Y’all think we’re a buncha rubes up here in the Great White North, but we’ve never had anyone as despicable as that as our mayor. Not in my lifetime, anyway.
Oh, by the way. Mark Green? You suck. To quote Bobby Kennedy Jr., “I don’t know what the hell he was thinking.”

Venus by the Lake
Credit & Copyright: Tunc Tezel
Explanation: Finding Venus in the night sky is not too hard these days. Now appearing as the evening star, Venus rules as the brightest celestial beacon in west just after sunset. And if you can find Venus tonight, you can also easily find the lovely Pleiades star cluster (aka M45) close by. In this serene skyview, recorded on Tuesday near Bolu, Turkey, Venus and the Pleiades are on the right, with brilliant Venus reflected in the calm waters of the small lake in the foreground. Left of Venus, the bright star Aldebaran anchors the V-shaped Hyades star cluster. Farther left are stars of the familiar constellation Orion with Rigel, at the foot of Orion, also reflected in the lake. Meanwhile, Sirius, in Canis Major, is the brightest star on the left side of the view. But the bright terrestrial light below Sirius is not a reflection, it’s just a light near the lake shore.

Seder on Olbermann on Imus
or here with other Seder clips
Well, as long as I am at it, here is a link to an appearance that Seder and Stephen Sherrill did for FUBAR at Cody’s Books in San Francisco provided by ForaTV that I was able to attend last summer. Cody’s is closing their San Francisco store soon. I tried to ask Sam if Pashman :reaper: had been at this broadcast. Oh yeah, Markos Moulitsas was also there.
I didn’t realize it at the time but apparently Spocko was in the audience.
Thanks for the post Vern! I don’t get cable so I never see this stuff.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a Washington-based legal watchdog organization, has called on Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald to re-open an investigation into White House adviser Karl Rove’s role in the identity leak of former CIA agent Valerie Plame.
“It looks like Karl Rove may well have destroyed evidence that implicated him in the White House’s orchestrated efforts to leak Valerie Plame Wilson’s covert identity to the press in retaliation against her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson,” said Melanie Sloan, CREW’s executive director.

I was reading the Seder comments on Kos, last night. (I couldn’t sleep) and someone said that he/she had emailed the Drobnys and has gotten a reply that they were indeed negotiating with Sam. The commenter thought possibly with Maron too.
Sam does very well on tv. I was listening to Randi yesterday and she was complaining that Olbermann didn’t even ask Sam about his own job at AAR even though they knew about it. I doubt that Olbermann had time to ask and the story they were covering was about Imus, not Sam. She , herself was so out of touch about the whole thing that she didn’t even know until she saw Sam packing up his stuff on his last day. Cripes! π
Yeah Sue, I got that from Jeff Farias when I talked to him yesterday. I asked about a Sam and Marc show. :yippee:
I saw your post yesterday, Kristapea. I have my fingers crossed.
How’s the new house? Are you unpacked? I have threatened my husband with abandonment and worse if we ever move again. I hate it .
Yeah moving sure does suck. I still have a few things to move over and I am lacking furniture for storage so I haven’t unpacked everything. This house has no closet space at all. I also need a new vacuum cleaner. My dustbuster died when I was cleaning the old house. The dog hair is getting out of hand. I may succumb to all the Oreck commercials I hear everyday and get one of those. Those commercials don’t annoy me enough to want to boycott the product. In fact, I think I kind of like Mr. Oreck. Seems like a nice guy.
Hey, KP, I thought everybody in AZ hired illegal aliens to do all that cleaning and moving stuff.
I aint got that kinda dough. Besides, I don’t like strangers handling my stuff. Although, I was talking to one of our clients a couple of weeks ago and he said you could trust the Mexicans more than you could trust white guy contractors. He’d had things missing after white trades people had been in his house but never anything missing when Mexicans were there. He made a good point too, he said you’ll never see a Mexican asking for change on the corner because they’re all working. I have to say that I can’t say as I’ve seen too many Mexicans asking for change, they’ve mostly been white guys. But this client is Mexican and was born in Nogales and worked in the trades for many years and is now a successful accountant. So, he’s gonna be more sympathetic to his own. But he’s my favorite client, really nice guy.
Hi, bloggerati…
I am too old for this burning the midnight oil stuff. Last night Mr. B. and I met up with Melina and the Deeply Twisted Will for the Maron/Garofalo/Rollins show at the Gramercy. And I have a podcast with ModFab and others coming up at 10:30; I’ll post the link when it’s up.
I think Marc was just a tiny bit off his game (too much Starbuck’s?); lost track a few times of where he wanted to go. But Marc on an off night is still the funniest man in America, and the show was great. Melina will blog on it, I’m sure, and so will I, after I catch up on some sleep. Maybe we’ll have some news out of NovaM soon.
They’re mostly good Catholics, too.
I have a long history with unsuccessful vacuum cleaners. The best one I’ve found,so far, is an Electrolux canister. It seems to actually inhale stuff and doesn’t clog.
Bagless vacuums are obviously a Repig conspiracy to keep us all playing with dirt.
I’ve thought about an Oreck but I don’t know anyone, except Mr. Oreck, with any experience with one.
My wife is the vacuum cleaner maven, so I’ll have to get her opinion.
Funny, I spent a great deal of my youth trying to get strangers to handle my stuff.

Let Us Pray…..
seanie…Im up now
just had a bunch of stuff happen all at once and now th ekid who was supposed to come here is allergic to peanuts (aka birdfood) so I have to drive Will to scarsdale….
Marc was great IMO…Im sure its not easy to do so many nights in a row with that group and the travelling….
Henry Rollins went on and on…way long. (he said “you got alot of henry tonight!)
but it was great….tiring….
I was just tired.
I did get to talk to Marc for a while afterwards and will blog more about the show.
I didnt leave with a positive feeling about anything big at Nova beyond fillin work….and not sure when….
There are many other radio outlets out there and marc has things in the works. But I can see that hes gonna be careful…Im so glad he is out of AAR and honestly I wish Sam was out of there too.
he didnt say much about them to me, but what he did say is what I expected and what Ive heard. And all around, I get the feeling that AR is moving in a different direction and that direction is not new or dangerous or edgy or anything that we might hope.
I think that the problem , for me, is that AAR is really over…really really….unless there is some huge turnaround….a miracle, like the Greens get indicted …and that would just be slow death. This was the last roll of the dice and we came up with just so-so….
and I have to get used to that first. Im in mourning….
The the fact is that Marc is doing great…hes got not only the political talk show in development, but also some other half hour comedy show for HBO….and hes working all the time.
Anyone will tell you that development is a big black hole…but marc is so good that its clear that he is lost to us in the way he was, as a newbie to radio starting a new network in the wilderness, wandering astoria and all….
Now he likley will come back as something bettter and more powerful…but its not next week or even next month…
and the hours of stream of thought that I miss might not happen….
But he is so talented that I have no worry that he is gonna be working alot and I think he is happy….
Its the blankness of Monday that Im worried about. I figure that Mondays in general will be Ok because I may have the podcast of Sammy or at least ring of fire, but otherwise its fucked.
I blogged about it last night but havent finished or edited yet…..because my ipod ran out of battery on the road down yesterday and I had to listen to local radio on the way home….
let me tell you…WOR SUCKS…but not as bad as AAR….and Im talking about Joey Reynolds….Joey fucking reynolds and his jew schtick and the ladies from Flordia were better than whatever it was on AAR….I might have hear some lionel too in there but I dont know. It was so bad…and I was upset…and Will was telling me that the world is so fucked and that we’re ruining everything for him and his future…but he is a depressive anyway…and I was trying to get him to see how Henry looks at things so positively and with such gusto…like the world will be OK if we just embrace it (what is he on?) and he finally fell asleep, so maybe it was just the long week and the grandpa and greatgrandpa and everything falling apart and coming together all the time.
Im gonna be back to 1010WINS and Dr Joy before long….thank god for Diggnation (so I can listen to 30 year old geeks get drunk and laugh about silly stuff…but its funny when you know the guys, even though theyre young) and the NY Times op eds….FUCK FUCK FUCK.
Anyway. I have alot to say on this but unfortunately, I have to take a shower and drive to scarsdale so as not to have a child with aniphylactic shock dead on my floor.
WHY this mother would not call me and tell me about this allergy is beyond me. I woke in the middle of the night and went, oh shit…peanuts in the bird food…
So I will be back….or maybe go to the fancy mall and check otu the Sony experience….
and seanie…I think I have your # in my text messages…will call from the car.
Problem is that not only am I tired but I dont know if I can sit through Rollins again….Marc I could see over and over…janeane, maybe one more time…and the bar there is cool because they were tellign em that I couldnt possibly have a 13 year old son and gave me a free soda for my upcoming b’day ($4 sodas in a cup!!)
But Im worried that it might be a/ sold out or b/ cant get there on time
bc Will is in scarsdale…..
could maybe probably get on the list but…I dunno….
Im very sad and tired today.
I’ve got a Dyson, best vacuum cleaner on the planet, and the coolest. It looks like my twin 50’s with a double hosed regulator.
I have a Kirby and its really great…just heavy. I do think that the electroluxe that the housekeeper uses (a pro one?) is the best Iv seen…the kirby is like, everything…its a wet dry shopvac and all…I can use it for the bir cages and all…but next I would get the electroluxe.
I also swear by the roomba, which drives round every day and picks up a cup of doghair and seeds and dust…it not the only cleaning that o ne has to do but its a good maintenance tool.
And I use the scooba on the hard floors …it ends up with water in its tank that is black…even after the housekeepers have been here….so either that or one of those extractor like cleaning machines that pulls up water is essential for me.
To paraphrase Mr. Ruckly in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest: “Ffffffuck da Greens…”
The White House said Saturday it is agreeing to the Senate Judiciary Committee’s request for how to choose someone to help recover some lost e-mails involving official presidential business.
The White House acknowledged last week that aides to President Bush improperly have used e-mail accounts created by the Republican Party to conduct official White House business, and that an undetermined number of these e-mails has been lost.

So I’m THIS CLOSE to canceling AAR premium. I still podcast Randi, but at this point I’m tempted to cancel to make a point and podcast Malloy on NovaM instead.
My premium was renewed in February. If I cancel now, do they refund, or do I just eat the money?
Be Well All especially those in the “east” and those on the eastcoast.
:cold: a “cold front” en route.
“Hello babies, welcome to Earth….” … thank you  Bender
I should take my rug that’s covered in dog hair to the Oreck store and test out some vacuum cleaners. My friend in Chicago swears by her Electrolux. I had an old Hoover I bought at a thrift store for $30 that lasted me more than 15 years until I beat the shit out it one day. :fustrate:
I used to have a Rainbow but got sick and tired of filling and emptying the water tank.
I’ll be at the Nova M birthday bash in Scottsdale Sunday night. They say there will be big announcement. Do you think it something about Sam or Marc?

Hey Jill. Based on other posts I’ve read here, we’re probably going to have to eat at least some of the money when we cancel. And rumor has it that they aren’t too quick to cancel in the first place. I’m going to write them next week and let them know that my desire for premium left the building along with Sam.
:nana:
(The taunt is for Green, not for you.) π
baroosk, I think that might be a little premature. I just don’t think they have the money and neither Sam nor Marc seem to be demonstrating much hope or enthusiasm for Nova M. Hopefully, their announcement will be something about coming up with a lot of money so they don’t have to grow their operation on the cheap and don’t end up with rich dunderheads calling the shots.
MSists will be well represented. You and Kristapea may be the biggest power bloc there.
:blech: stupid busses and trains!!!!!
That chickens**t Mark Green has taken down the page with his statement about Sam Seder and the comments. Nice way to respond to the audience, a**hole.
Hey, Baroosk, nice to see you. Foe everybody else, if you haven’t checked out Talking Radio (linked over there on the right, under Liberal Blogs), you should.
The “Adding Lionel!” page is still up… that’s the page I had seen with the comments…

Hey Baroosk, good to see another Phoenician on the blog, or are you one of the people flying in for the party?
Ho π
Aw. I hate to say it, but in that picture, Ho looks kinda nappy-headed.
Krista, do you think you’ll actually be able to talk to someone in charge of NovaM?
Evening / Morning :yinyang:
Didn’t ‘Jimmy the Greek’ get his hat handed to him pretty quickly for his unthoughtful comments.
It’s not just Imus
On April 11, NBC News announced that it was dropping MSNBC’s simulcast of Imus in the Morning in the wake of the controversy that erupted over host Don Imus’ reference to the Rutgers University women’s basketball team as “nappy-headed hos.” The following day, CBS president and CEO Leslie Moonves announced that CBS — which owns both the radio station that broadcast Imus’ program and Westwood One, which syndicated the program — has fired Imus and would cease broadcasting his radio show. But as Media Matters for America has extensively documented, bigotry and hate speech targeting, among other characteristics, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and ethnicity continue to permeate the airwaves through personalities such as Glenn Beck, Neal Boortz, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Michael Savage, Michael Smerconish, and John Gibson.
That’s true KK
Howard Cosell got into a bit of a kerfuffel when he said “that little monkey gets loose, doesn’t he?” about Alvin Garrett, but I think it was just generally accepted that he was a senile old fart, and didn’t really mean it.
The guy who got royally fucked was Jimmy the Greek, who was a good man who said one stupid thing. He was the opposite of a rascist, not terribly well educated and a bit of a dope, but the dogs went after him for some reason. It was unfair and unwarranted. Cosell was a total shit personally who took some unpopular but gutsy stands. Neither of these guys had a decade’s long record of malicious ethnic and rascist insults. I wish Media Matters a lot of luck [I’m very glad they’re there] but the moral pigmeys who run big radio could give two shits what Savage or Limbaugh say, as long as the ratings and the money roll in. The same dynamics aren’t there to get rid of them, or Coulter, or whoever. I don’t see the right wing domination of radio ending any time soon, because the slugs who listen to this stuff really like it, and they’re not going to switch to Sam Seder or Marc Maron.
I’ve got to admit, although I’m very glad Imus got taken down, and its way past time, this victimization crap by the Rutgers girls and their coach gives me a tooth ache. These kids should be taught that there’s loads of bastards out there that aren’t worth bothering about. Are they going to get the vapors every time they walk by a construction site? Its got to stop: I don’t want to hear about the need for healing and all those other idiotic euphemisms. Read your newspaper today, for godsakes. Can you compare this one insult by a witless old drunk to the horrors we see every day? Some perspective, please! There’s no way this should have been dragged out for a week. This was not Medger Evers, people. :sammy:
You hit that one on the head, pj. Howard was an old man like my Dad. They don’t have some of the ‘sensitivities’ we have picked up as things evolve. My Dad is not really a racist and fancies himself as a Liberal and above all else, a Democrat. Granted, in Richmond, VA, that bar is not too high. However, he always says embarrassing things that make me cringe but he does not know any better and it is a little to late for making him understand. But it is language and not heart.
Imus helped create a den of nasty bigotry and hatred that was constantly awful. I liked him for a while but the vileness drove me away. He knows what he was doing and it finally got him. Andy’s #47 shows there are more habitual offenders out there but maybe maybe Imus strayed a little too far off the ‘plantation’ and nobody had his back.
And someone should acknowledge what a hideous jerk Bernard McGuirk is and give him the ‘credit’ that he deserves for all of this.
C-2, I agree but did not go that deep. I think the Al Campanis incident might also fit here. Ignorance was the problem and probably not the heart. It does bother me that we have these national spasms that are something of a feelgood catharsis and distraction that give cover to the perpetuation of the serious problems that we still have. Meanwhile the insidious elements continue to exercise their ‘craft’.
Well, Andy, I would think that the Drobneys would be at their big first birthday bash. I’ll keep an eye out for them and bug them about Sam and Marc. Maybe I can get Jeff Farias to point them out for me. 8)
No pressure, KP.
:spank: :jason: :tommygun: :reaper: :rant1:
Howie’s thing was that he said he called his grandchildren little monkeys all the time, and that, far from an insult, he considered it a term of endearment. And you know what? He probably did. It’s just that there are things you ought to be smart enough not to say on national TV. Jimmy the Greek told a television reporter that the black athlete is “bred to be the better athlete because, this goes all the way to the Civil War when … the slave owner would breed his big woman so that he would have a big black kid.” Not on national TV, but a rather stupid thing to say in public nonetheless.
Imus certainly wasn’t the first or the worst, but he was a big money maker, and he went down pretty damn fast and hard, so maybe this will scare some of these other assholes for a little while. Probably not someone like Limbaugh, who is supposed to be an ignorant, bigot, and probably not Fox, which is the champion of the ignorant bigot, but maybe CNN will start to think about giving somebody like Glenn Beck a national voice on a supposedly legitimate news network. Or at least their advertisers, ‘cuz it’s really only the money that counts in the end.
You have a right to say whatever you want, but people also have a right not to want to be associated with what you say.
Hey PJ, what are the numbers of people who drop by here, again? I wanna have some numbers at hand when i talk to the Drobneys tomorrow.
We get roughly 12,000 visits a month, including about 4,000 unique visitors. Something on the order of 400 visitors per day.
I think Howard’s life bears that out. His support of Ali admirable. I once got a ride from NYC to VA in 1970 from his son-in-law and it sounded like he was a real character but he was OK (and that was from his son-in-law). I always liked the guy. I will always remember his John Lennon connections as well.
Yeah, poor Howie. The flap settled down, but he was pissed that it happened in the first place, and he quit. MNF was never as popular again, I don’t think. IIRC, his show was actually the only show called “Saturday Night Live” (as opposed to “live from NY, it’s Saturday Night”).
:fustrate: ugh i feel sorry for he people that end up reading my drivel……
Not sure of the factualness but I just got this
It’s very existence was a jump from quality TV. The one redeeming factor of the show was that its sketch repertory company included former National Lampoon players Christopher Guest, Bill Murray, and Brian Doyle Murray.
Now I have to find these shows somehow.
Goodnight all.
Yeah, Andy, me, too.
A post a Atrios that I heartily agree with.
