Hey, we got more hearings coming up; Dennis the K is introducing his impeachment resolution, and Gonzo is twisting slowly in the wind.

Arctic Monkeys, Amy Winehouse on Novello shortlist Mon Apr 23, 11:00 AM ET
LONDON (Reuters) – British rockers the Arctic Monkeys are on the shortlist for a prestigious Ivor Novello award for “When the Sun Goes Down,” while Amy Winehouse and Madonna are in the running in other categories.
The Sheffield-based Arctic Monkeys, who released their second album on Monday, have been nominated for best song, musically and lyrically, alongside Nerina Pallot (for “Sophia”) and Scott Matthews (for “Elusive”).
Arctic Monkeys have already picked up the Mercury Prize for best British album in September and best British group and album prizes at the Brits in February.
In the best contemporary song category, soul singer Winehouse (“Rehab”) is up against Hot Chip’s “Over and Over” and Bodyrox Ft Luciana’s “Yeah Yeah.”
No word as to whether or not Father Guido Sarducci will be making the presentation. :pope:
And don’t forget, Amy is on Leno tonight. Crank up those VCR’s, y’all.

Absolutely. You should let him know that, if he needs support for using the computer, and you provide it (beyond, say, a quick phone call here and there as a “neighborly” thing), it’s at a rate of $X per hour. But if you have to go and unfuckup stuff that he or somebody else did that didn’t know what they were doing, it’s a rate of $(X+Y) or $2X or whatever.
Of course, you can always encourage him to use “the google” if he prefers free advice.
Oh, here’s something interesting that came out at my class last night. One person did a cost model on deploying iBooks running OS X vs. Dell Latitudes running XP in an enterprise setting. He’s a Mac user, and wound up surprising himself. The Dells cost about $400 less per unit over five years. Major reasons are things like the Macs have a higher component failure rate, are more difficult to repair (taking the entire shell apart to replace the hard drive, for instance, vs. a couple of screws), and, while they have fewer software vulnerabilities, their patches are much larger and take longer to deploy.
As I said, he’s a Mac fan, and I think he was a bit chagrined by his findings.
That’s where I saw it. I thought it was really funny. I’m having an issue with the father of the the neighbor I biult the computer for–he thinks he knows what he’s doing but he’s just a knucklehead.
I don’t know, I’ve never had to live with a Mac for an extended period of time, but I did have to support them for a few years. They didn’t really seem any better or worse to me. Just a lot more limited in certain ways. I’ve known people who replaced ancient and underpowered computers with brand new Macs, and they just think they’re terrific, but, I mean, if you go from a PC with a 5 gig hard drive and 32 megs of RAM, you’d pretty much have to be impressed with anything new.

Damn, am I getting biblical.
Here’s a weird incident [didn’t say it was interesting]- I click onto the CSPAN stream about an hour ago, and it shows Bush waving vacantly at nobody and getting into his chopper on the white house lawn- totally silent, no commentary, so i didn’t know that he had just made another dipshit comment about Iraq. He boards the chopper, along with a bunch of military manikins who are never going to be turned into hamburger in Iraq, and after a minute, the blades start turning. Slowly. Still no commentary, and my imagination is starting to run wild. Was there a horrific crash? Is this a re-play? Or did Bush suddenly spring from his handlers, wave both arms at the camera like a madman, pull down his pants, and moon the country? Would the FCC allow this to be played? Still nothing, finally the damn thing lifts off and slowly — ever so slowly — flies off in the direction of the Washington monument. And then, finally, the commentator comes on, says that Bush is on the way to NYC [pub crawl?] and in a minute we get….Joe Biden.
But I had already had five minutes quiet time with myself, and I got to thinking: would it really be so surprising if Bush went batshit on TV? Not to me. I really believe the Nat Enquirer’s stories that he’s bingeing again, and Laura’s fed up and moved out. So why not?
What isn’t on Cspan is much more fascinating than what is. :sammy:
More than a quarter of the countryรขโฌโขs 2.4 million bee colonies have been lost รขโฌโ tens of billions of bees, according to an estimate from the Apiary Inspectors of America, a national group that tracks beekeeping. NEW YORK (CNN) — The Food and Drug Administration says it will test ingredients imported for human consumption in connection with the recall of pet food that has killed at least 16 pets and perhaps more than 100.
In addition, the FDA on Tuesday announced plans to expand testing of the animal food supply after hogs on farms in three states were quarantined after testing positive for melamine, the toxic substance at the center of the recall.
A poultry farm in Missouri is also being investigated, federal officials said.
