Today’s my mom’s birthday. She’d have turned 83 today (and would be none too happy to have me tell you that). She was Taurus, I’m Scorpio. It was an interesting relationship at times, to say the least. Happy Birthday mom. To everybody else, Happy Arbor Day. Go out and hug a tree.

mornin’ druid
As a public service to readers of this blog, could you publish “a guide to deciphering Druid’s messages?” I’m an old fart, and i just recently found out what “lol” means. Yes, I’m that pathetic. I get the ARREST! IMPEACH1 VIGILANCE! Amen brother. Its my mantra some days. But the little pirate guy and the bee — are they verbs? direct objects? Please, help out we poor old folks who are not fluent in Druid Talk. :sammy:
Rats Roxie … 😉 Cheers … :yippee:

Usually I wait until about 4 or 5 and no one appears … once in a blue moon I do around 3:30am, which is now — and ye :bee: here matey :pirate: A.I.V.
Good morning all,
My morning posts are probably going to be shrinking. Apparently I am fair game for my boss as soon as I come in, although I’m not on the clock until 7 AM.
But if I stay over to get caught up on stuff after my shift, that’s bad and I shouldn’t do that. Go figure.
And for the third consecutive day, no mention in the local paper of Kucinich’s impeachment charges against Cheney. Bastards.
:fu:
cresttwo, I just say … sorry.
Before the change to a new server (if that is what is called — PJ would know, I believe you probably know more than I.) — ALL EMOs (emoticons) had the words: As it use to be for 8) … which was : cool: = now it is 8 )
So sometimes if even now for a pirate it is (not to put EMO symbology together or one gets the character) thus … for a pirate = (equals) : pirate:

all clear on that now?
Thank you Druid. I think I can read it now; don’t know if i have the patience to write it. Reminds me of the old Sherlock Holmes story, The Dancing Men, where little symbols were used in a code. Very good.
Mike Gravel was very entertaining last night: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/27/us/politics/27scene.html
What would i give to have this guy — who doesn’t know from political correctness — unleashed against Bush in a one-on-one debate.
And he raises a great point: how can you call yourself a democrat and support a pre-emptive war against any country, and with nuclear weapons? Is Pearl Harboring another country consistent with American values? Grumpy old Mike got that one right. :sammy:
Cresttwo, I  ( says for entering put : love: ) lil pixs (pictures) that move. So much sorrow this day — lil moving pixs make me smile. I am one of “those” which NO LONGER HAVE a sense of humour. … I have always been (since 13 1/2) an Activist — my family was in the dark.
I am working on some projects AND EMOs let me speak quickly in picture-speak (a play off of “1984”). I  (it says : love:) ,
but this is just how I speak and brain works. I try to change, but I am 108 with attitude 😉
then if you ever want to know why I “naturally” use British “spelling” — well you asked; therefore:
Since I started reading as a child this is how THE BOOKS were written from the :bee: ginning ….. so just “naturally”, I write this way and it “tilts” my brain when I try to write the American way. At ‘SC they mostly accepted me, for that (not my politics :rofl2: ). A.I.V.
I like Gravel, but he probably ALLOWS the Wolf Hunts in Alaska.
If he is against the hunts, then he as a candidate for me. PERFECT.

Druid,
No Bill Press today. I am listening to the only Sunni broadcaster on AAR this morning.
I am seriously considering skipping part of work and going to see Rachel Maddow and The Angry One broadcasting live this afternoon. There is a remote possibility that we will see Lawton Smalls in action. Also, AlF is supposedly supposed to show up.
Good morning :joe:

GREAT! Now the bushies have poisoned the sausage, not that it’s all that good for me anyway, but still.
:rant1:
Andy, you’ll just have to go and get some good natural sausage at the health food store…thats the least of it…the chicken…what about Macdonalds and Burger King who are the biggest industrialized meat processors in the world? How long before we find out that this stuff is in everything!
I think that this may be just the tip of the iceberg.
Also, pigs are smarter than dogs, so if we have to eat pork, lets make sure that it hasnt been treated as horribly as the big processors do…Im willing to pay an extra couple of bucks and to have it less often just to make sure that its chemical free and also has walked in a field a little….the stress hormones from being kept shoulder to shoulder with others, are also not good to ingest.
Funny thing that Bush sent Bill Clinton to Russia…she couldnt use him…but she did OK.
Big surprise.
The last couple of years I’ve been using the faux soy meat replicas. Once in a while I’ll go out and buy the real thing because I’m sorry I love the suasage, problem around here is the nearest Whole Foods is about 30 miles away.
I am all for emo speak, and I’d like to see an entire society based on emo communication. I’d go to Berlitz, or Rosetta Stone, or whatever, and move to EmoLand or EmoZikaStan tout suite.
The Repugs have destroyed all of the logic and rationalitiy of the English language, so why not?
I’m for Richardson myself, but I think Hillary is the front runner, because money is character in this sick society. Otherwise, what the hell is this Romney doing in the GOP race, when he’s be talking like a Dem for his entire public life? Money changes everything, to quote one of the great sages.
Oh, and she’s got this husband who gives a pretty good speech, and who happens to be the most popular ex prez we’ve ever had.
And if she’s lucky, the solid block of five Roman Catholic men on the Supreme Court will issue another anti-abortion rights decision before the Dem convention, and boost her ratings another 5%.
Aside from that, I don’t think Hillary has a chance in hell. :sammy:
Just started raining like hell.
brian from everett!
Brian from Everett is now the official flavin of the STephanie Miller Show. Now I’m thinking I should declare myself official ceramic artist for the SMS because if I don’t, someone else will and then I’ll be jealous and upset that i didnt ‘act on that impulse.
Hey, KP, use the poor man’s copyright. Write a letter that says you’re the official SMS ceramicist, and mail it to yourself. Then the postmark on the envelope will serve as proof of the date, in case you run into a dispute in the future.
Apparently, there are a lot of people starved for entertainment out there.
hillary:
i think alot of the enthusiasm for her run is that she is the first woman with a chance to become president.
the trouble is, she’s not the right woman. even if she were to win, she would alienate so many voters that it would be another generation before another female president could win. she’s not bill! she’s kind of abrasive and seems cold and calculated.
in the past i was thinking maybe barbara boxer but now i’m sure our best shot at having a successful woman prez is nancy pelosi

Early in Giulinai’s term, a man named Schillaci was arrested on a 13 year old traffic warrant after he exposed a red light trap in the Bronx.
After the arrest Giuliani released and mischaracterized the man’s arrest record, saying falsely that he had been convicted of sodomy. Mr. Schillaci received almost $300,000 from NYC for violation of his civil rights.
If Giuliani were elected president he’d be Bush on steroids.
Not only did he use the police as a way to punish his opposition but he, like Bush, only talked to people who agreed with him, and like Bush, didn’t plan for consequences.
NYC has 5 boroughs, 4 of which are overwhelmingly liberal. The fifth, Staten Island is the Republican borough and as such was Giuliani’s best support. It was also NYC’s garbage dump which understandably, the Staten Islanders hated. So, Giuliani closed it without any idea what to do afterward, and created a crisis in the rest of the City as he tried to site garbage collection stations in minority areas in the other boroughs.
The City garbage collection system, overnight, went from a water barge based one to a truck based system, adding thousands of garbage haulers to roads up and down the east coast.
Imagine what he could do as president.

so last night one of the mason bees hatched at 11pm or so here in my office. i put her in the darkened outer room.
earlier i had put in a dampened paper towel, rolled up to make it compact, so she ended up crawling in to the center of that to wait for dawn…
i let her out at the bee condo this morning, and she chose a tube for herself right off the bat. i imagine she’s currently looking for one of the boy’s!

More talk of :bee: :bee: :bee:
A fungus that caused widespread loss of bee colonies in Europe and Asia may be playing a crucial role in the mysterious phenomenon known as Colony Collapse Disorder that is wiping out bees across the United States, UC San Francisco researchers said Wednesday.
Researchers have been struggling for months to explain the disorder, and the new findings provide the first solid evidence pointing to a potential cause.
But the results are “highly preliminary” and are from only a few hives from Le Grand in Merced County, UCSF biochemist Joe DeRisi said. “We don’t want to give anybody the impression that this thing has been solved.”

interesting how they seem to pop out with a slight delay so as to spread their activities over a longer time.

Mason orchard bees are a 2 year project for me and Bgurl.
the bees hatching are our first generation for our own home here in the valley.
our first
‘homegrown’ generation rather…
the reason for getting into bees was to save our fruit.
we have a small orchard in the back yard, two old cherry, two old apple, one old plum and a new one and plums in the side yard.
three years ago we had maybe 10% of the fruit we normally get.
the fruit had no seed development or very little.
our guess was no bees. we saw very few of them that year.
last year we got our first mason orchard bees and the harvest was superb.
it took a while to get used to the funny little hats and the tiny cars and the bycycle horn honking at all hours, but we’ve come to love them.
they’re really hard working little ladies.
they don’t bite or sting, and they visit approximately 1600 blooms a day each!
occasionally we’ll be sitting outside and one will drop by to visit and land on an arm or hand, they stay to chat a bit and then back to work.
The Monster Mash guy and Jack Valente in one week…what
Mort Milfington couldn’t do with that set up….
(Unlike, say, the Randi Rhodes show, Morning Sedition shows still make good listening 2 years later. But I do feel rather pathetic to
be so bereft of good radio that I am still listening to MS reruns almost
daily.
I miss casual Fridays (sniff)…I even miss Al Franken!
:cold:
:tommygun: take that nazi scum!!!!!
Brilliant,
We in Madison rallied to “Save the Mic,” our local AAR station
early this year but we wonder what we’ve saved. One of the
great things about the Mic was the local programming by Lee
Rayburn and a few other locals hosts that very successfully tied
in the local progressive scene with the info we were hearing on the national AAR and Jones Network programs. We had Lee on the
weekends and then he got a daily morning spot when MS was cancelled (that was some consolation…Lee didn’t have the Cardinal, Lawton, News Daddy or the gang but he did have John Nichols,
Matt Roschild,Paul Soglin, our former leftist mayor, and lots of local activist groups on every week). Lee and other local programmers John Quinlan and Laura Gutknecht got canned just before the Mic announced it’s flip. Now
that it has flipped back, we’ve never recovered the local programming strength the Mic used to have.
The reason Madison put up such a big howl when the Mic announced its flip is that the station had real strength in the local scene and lots of support with local businesses. Supporters of
the Mic were able to rally local businesses to prove that the
advertising dollars would be there if progressive talk stayed.
But without the local hosts, the link between progressive politics,
local issues and local business is not as strong and I am worried.
Lee spoke about his cat as often as Marc did and
often interviewed the owner of a local pet store chain who
had a strong philosophy about stocking responsible pet care
products and was leading the fight against a law that would
allow citizens to shoot feral cats. A feral cat rescue effort resulted,
I adopted my first cat, I went to the local owner’s store to learn about responsible pet care and ended up becoming a regular purchasers of cat food that was not affected by the melamine
contamination because it doesn’t contain imported glutens.
My cat is healthy, I’m a happy pet owner, the animal shelter
has one more free cage, the pet store owner gets all my business,
and I’m still listening to the Mic and frequenting other progressive businesses I heard about there. See how that works? I think the local component to the progressive movement is so important. I also liked learning about local businesses that I can support because they share my progressive aims.

Active duty Lt. Colonel blasts Bush & generals over Iraq
Read between the lines. The generals are responsible for letting Bush screw up the entire war effort. I’ve been writing this for years. Now we have active duty members saying the same. Bottom line: The author argues that Bush screwed up, and the generals didn’t have the balls to call him on it. They sent their troops into battle unprepared and destined for failure.

Hey PG, I think it’s because they don’t spend as much time on individual callers as Marc used to on MS. Stephanie and crew seem to prefer callers who can spit out punchlines in 20 seconds or less, for the most part. It takes longer than that for Brian’s brain to properly unravel. 😀
Brian should record a song and send it to them. He really started to attract Marc’s attention when he wrote the song about having an inconsistent mental disposition. I think the line about Al Franken being king of the Jews was his breakthrough moment. :sdavid:

I just read the full piece, and have a few observations, as someone who more often than not watched CBS News at that time (this was pre-Katie and Bush butt buddy Bob):
1) Who is this guy? The name barely registers with me. If memory serves, Bill Plante was their chief White House reporter at the time (and maybe still is). Shouldn’t Plante be writing this?
2) If the press-corps members were asking such probing and insightful questions, why didn’t those of us watching CBS ever hear any of them?
3) He portrays us as easily-manipulated stooges on bended-knee to the President and his top aides.
Actually, most of the press was bending over farther than that. If you know what I mean. :spank:
And I wouldn’t go as far as to compare them to stooges. Moe, Larry and Curly were better organized, and Iggy spoke WAAAAAY more truth.
:rofl2: your wife called……

I would bet that if one examined the social scene in DC that what one would see might explain a lot about why democrats are so timid about rethugs and the media is so so timid about them too. I think one would see a sea of money and services of all sorts for sale to those who do as told. We know that the RNC has there people marching in lock step because of threats related to campaign funding and I would bet the management types at the DC media outlets are leery of doing anything that might appear to go against there RNC connected sponsors. The editors/producers have the last world about what appears in the print and video media and who lives and dies so to speak in those media environments.. The editors/producers are not that far removed from corporate management so it probably takes only a short time for the correspondent to learn what will and what will not fly. The rethugs probably have better goodies at their parties too. :reaper: :reaper: :gate: :omg: :jason: :jason:
I think the decadence factor in SBR politics probably exist(s)(ed) in most fanciest systems and that was why they typically didn’t fall under their own weight but only after the people got pissed and said bye bye to them or more likely a B17, B25 or B29 said bye bye to them and a lot of their sheep too. :reaper: :reaper:

Hey Kristin, Miller is all about “infotainment”, edgy and quirky simply don’t register. They don’t have the sense of humor to “get” Brian from Everett the way Marc did and see the potential. You’ll notice that most of the phone calls are simply sycophants complimenting Miller or have a quick one-liner. I don’t know it looks like Otto’s Baroque for me in the morning.
