The good news is, Wednesdays no longer suck. The bad news is, every day sucks, as I struggle to get this cost model completed. I would really, really love to get it all done before the weekend, but goddamn, it’s going slow. Y’all carry on amongst yourselves until I’m done.

Hows everyone today??
Morning all, renting cars for 10 hours today. :yuck:
Andy, I was just looking at the MUST Visit links from yesterday…so funny…do they have any grain fed, cruelty free Philly Cheesesteaks?
Turns out I can get a really good rate on 2 nights there in my very favorite hotel in any city!…and then on the 3rd that I could possibly stay the rates go up to the $400 range…huh?… I do love the Westin enough to go crazy finding deals that are something like a third of what they would normally be, …so I was closely questioning the Westin girl and talking with her about Tut and all at midnight last night…and she got this wild idea…which parlayed my card and star point balance into a FREE night!!…and got her a great review at corporate! and I get a few thousand points back if I pay with my starwoods amex…ha hah hahahahah….and I save $$ in that Im not going for the roiginal dates which used my points and was still more expensive for just 2 nights!!
so, besides the fact that I SHOULD just let myself go and stay for 2 nights in the heavenly bed after almost a freakin year of relentless work and crap…I pulled a Hi Brown and got a DEAL in real NY style!
The only other thing is that I coulda gotten an extreme business suite for something like $75 more per night with free wifi and oak sitting room furniture for executives and all…but I have the verizon laptop card…so why bother? Its all about the bed anyway.
Now if the parrot parents will just feed their OWN babies…or if Todd will keep them for those days…I will be set….May 11th is day 25 for egg 1, so if they’re gonna hatch its gonna be happening then…and if it all works out, they will stay in the nest for at least 2 weeks being fed by parents before I socialize them…So they will be ready to pull just when I get back….or baby # 1 will…they should hatch 2-3 days apart….
Speaking of birds…did anyone (or maybe me) post the duck dick article here from the Science times? This is one of my very favorite articles of the year so far…and Ive definitely sent it around…but if Ive missed it here, there it is…its evolution in action…how can anyone deny evolution after reading that?
And I want to evolve that female ability to catch and expell undesirable sperm…vaginal pouch…and hey, how bout a cheek pouch while we’re at it?
I think I sent my son off to school troubled this morning by reading him the article while he got ready for the bus…sand my thoughts on sperm pouches of course!
I think I feel another blog post coming on…but I may have to go down to the natural history museum this weekend and get some photos and insight from the evolution exhibit.
OH…very important….remind me if you think of it…I have to write a huge note here for myself and put an alarm in the treo!…if I don’t cancel that 3rd night 24 hours in advance for any reason I get charged some $400++ …so I have to remember that the cancellation would involve 2 reservations!

This is an interesting and of course disturbing recount of the war games that were in progress on 9/11 and their impact on the ability of the military to tract and react to the hi-jackings. Guess who was in charge. His name begins with Dick (not to be confused with a duck phallus) and ends with Chaney).

The number of people identifying themselves as Republicans has fallen to a new low. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of 15,000 adults in April found that just 31.0% now say they belong to the Grand Old Party. That’s down from 31.5% the month before and reflects a drop of more than six percentage points from the peak of 37.3% during Election 2004.
However, the survey also found a decline in the number identifying themselves as Democrats. Today, 36.5% say they belong to Nancy Pelosi’s party. That’s the lowest total in eleven months and represents a decline from 38.0% since the Democrats began running Congress.
As a result, the number not affiliated with either major party has jumped to an all-time high—32.4%. That’s up eight percentage points since Election 2004 and means that there are now more politically unaffiliated adults than Republicans (see history).

Just to get back to that Country-Punk thing for a second…
Back when he was breaking on to the scene in 1977, Elvis Costello (maybe not a Punk but definitely Rock/New Wave) stated in Rolling Stone that his favorite themes were guilt and revenge and his favorite artists were George Jones and Gram Parsons. Elvis teamed on his first album with the ex-pat Marin Country/Rock band Clover that later became Huey Lewis and the American Express (later the News). Later, EC would record a full Country album as well as record with George Jones and former Parsons partner EmmyLou Harris.
As for Parsons, maybe he never was a Punk but he was a rebel and a Byrd and worked with the Rolling Stones (they’re Rock, yes?). His friendship with Keith may have contributed to his early demise. When he founded the Flying Burrito Brothers, they recorded a classic song called “Sin City “about LA that referred to the assassination of RFK and included the following great lyric
This old earthquake’s gonna leave me in the poor house
It seems like this whole town’s insane
On the thirty-first floor
Your gold-plated door
Won’t keep out the Lord’s burning rain
No, I’m not gonna write an essay about Jim Webb and “MacArthur Park”.
me bluegrass.
a mandolinnifier.
course, i can only do
one string at a time. still fun
Of course, after Parsons left the Burritos, they got hooked up with the Country Gazette who ended up with Roland White on mandolin. Roland’s brother was Clarence White, the late, great legendary flatpicker who also had a run with the Byrds before his untimely death. Clarence and Roland were in the great SoCal based Bluegrass band the Kentucky Colonels and appeared in an episode of the Andy Griffith Show as well as on a record or two from Andy. Jim, I hope you saw them at the Ash Grove or somewhere. I only saw Clarence once with the Byrds.

According to former British Defense Secretary Geoff Hoon, Vice President Dick Cheney has been calling the shots in Iraq and has even overridden decisions by President Bush and former US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
“A catalogue of errors over planning for Iraq after the invasion, and an inability to influence key figures in the US administration, led to anarchy in Iraq from which the country has not recovered, the British defence secretary during the invasion admits today,” Patrick Wintour writes for The Guardian. “In an exclusive interview with the Guardian, Geoff Hoon reveals that Britain disagreed with the US administration over two key decisions in May 2003, two months after the invasion – to disband Iraq’s army and ‘de-Ba’athify’ its civil service. Mr Hoon also said he and other senior ministers completely underestimated the role and influence of the vice-president, Dick Cheney.

Now they’re saying that two other Congresspeople might want to co-sponsor Dennis K’s impeachment res – And yesterday Crazy Old Mike Gravel [who’s been invited to the next debate on CNN after there was pressure from the blogs] says impeachment is going to happen – and George McGovern wrote yesterday that Bush and Cheney would resign before the end of their terms next year.
Its open a crack, just a small crack, i tell you. Next month it will be a little more. What the WaPo refused to discuss last year is now getting discussed plenty – maybe it will become a standard debate issue – Today Dennis K gets ridiculed; tomorrow who knows? Nixon was told to get out by his own people. Never underestimate the craven-ness of Washington politicians. And we got something now that we never had in 1973-4 –millions of pissed-off bloggers, and some of them are damned smart. I’m not predicting it, but the I- train might be just starting to run down the track. :sammy:

And remember that four years ago Kucinich was widely ridiculed for advocating getting out of Iraq. Now the majority stands with him, but he had the foresight and courage to be out there in front. Same thing with impeachment.
Congress needs to keep up the investigations and hearings fast and furious. It’s not hard to imagine that something could leak out from somewhere that would turn the tide of public opinion. There’s too much dirt in this administration for these people to get away clean.
:fist:
Even if the Democrats manage to get out of Iraq and maybe even get rid of Bush and Co. There are still the FAUX news’s , the Heritage foundation , the American Enterprise Institute and a lot of rethug denominated state legislatures and 400 some Reich wing radio talkers that will continue to corrupt the political system , rig elections and tell lies to promote the corporate/.rethug agenda.
If the imperialistic attitude continues it is only a matter of time until the rest of the world recognizes the system as broken and moves to remedy the problem. :gate: :omg: :jason: :jason:

In remarks made Wednesday to the Associated General Contractors of America, President Bush defined his view of the success in Iraq that he hopes to accomplish.
“Either we’ll succeed, or we won’t succeed,” he said. “And the definition of success as I described is sectarian violence down. Success is not, no violence.”
Bush then compared Iraq to the United States saying that there were parts of the US with “a certain level of violence,” but that “people feel comfortable about living their daily lives” in those areas. That level of violence, said Bush, is what the US is aiming to achieve in Iraq.
At a White House Press Briefing later in the day Suzanne Malveaux of CNN asked Press Secretary Tony Snow to clarify what would constitute an “acceptable level of violence.”
“That’s a very good question,” replied Snow. “I don’t have an answer.”
Earlier in the press conference Snow also compared Iraq to the US, saying “Washington for many years was the murder capital of the United States of America. I believe we are still able to do our jobs. Now, really what he’s [President Bush] talking about — he’s talking about that.”

i hate microsoft…… i buy an xbox 360 instead of a ps3 because at least a 360 is made by an american company and then they overcharge for hard drives…… sony made the ps3 so you could put any 2.5 hard drive in it and friggin microsoft makes the 360 so that it uses a specially constructed hard drive and then they go and charge $180 for a 120 GB hard drive BASTARDS!!!!!
